Hi and welcome back to His Words Are Life. 00:00:16.69\00:00:19.67 I'm Kelly Mowrer. 00:00:19.70\00:00:20.77 Before we begin to read today from the book of Acts, 00:00:20.81\00:00:24.13 let's pray together. 00:00:24.16\00:00:25.44 Dear Jesus, thank You for sending us Your Word 00:00:25.47\00:00:29.63 to be a light to our feet and to guide us as we make our way 00:00:29.67\00:00:34.38 through our days, and hopefully, serve you better each day. 00:00:34.42\00:00:38.98 Thank You for the testimony of the life of your servant Paul, 00:00:39.02\00:00:43.64 and may we be able to say, like Paul, that we belong to You, 00:00:43.68\00:00:48.27 and we serve You with all our hearts. 00:00:48.30\00:00:49.92 We love You, Jesus. 00:00:49.96\00:00:51.59 Amen. 00:00:51.63\00:00:52.60 Again, I'm reading today from the book of Acts. 00:00:52.61\00:00:55.22 It's the King James Version. 00:00:55.25\00:00:56.44 And when we left off last time Paul is sailing with a group 00:00:56.48\00:01:01.56 of men, and they're caught in a storm. 00:01:01.59\00:01:03.65 But God has revealed to Paul that everyone on the ship 00:01:03.69\00:01:06.58 will be safe, but the ship itself will be lost. 00:01:06.61\00:01:09.50 The men take heart at this, and they eat, and they lighten 00:01:09.53\00:01:12.35 the ship; throwing the rest of the wheat overboard. 00:01:12.39\00:01:14.66 We're picking up now in verse 39. 00:01:14.69\00:01:17.30 And when it was day, they knew not the land: 00:01:17.33\00:01:21.54 but they discovered a certain creek with a shore, 00:01:21.57\00:01:24.56 into the which they were minded, if it were possible, 00:01:24.59\00:01:27.55 to thrust in the ship. 00:01:27.58\00:01:28.92 And when they had taken up the anchors, they committed 00:01:28.96\00:01:32.32 themselves unto the sea, and loosed the rudder bands, 00:01:32.35\00:01:35.13 and hoisted up the mainsail to the wind, 00:01:35.16\00:01:37.19 and made toward shore. 00:01:37.23\00:01:38.95 And falling into a place where two seas met, 00:01:38.99\00:01:42.62 they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, 00:01:42.66\00:01:46.93 and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken 00:01:46.96\00:01:51.20 with the violence of the waves. 00:01:51.23\00:01:53.31 And the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners, 00:01:53.34\00:01:56.18 lest any of them should swim out, and escape. 00:01:56.21\00:01:58.96 But the centurion, willing to save Paul, 00:01:58.99\00:02:02.11 kept them from their purpose; and commanded that they which 00:02:02.15\00:02:06.19 could swim should cast themselves first into the sea, 00:02:06.23\00:02:09.26 and get to land: and the rest, some on boards, 00:02:09.30\00:02:13.09 and some on broken pieces of the ship. 00:02:13.12\00:02:16.09 And so it came to pass, that they escaped 00:02:16.13\00:02:19.06 all safe to land. 00:02:19.10\00:02:21.49 Reading now from the book of Acts in the King James Version, 00:02:21.52\00:02:24.78 chapter 28. 00:02:24.81\00:02:26.58 And when they were escaped, then they knew that the island 00:02:26.62\00:02:30.77 was called Melita. 00:02:30.80\00:02:32.30 And the barbarous people showed us no little kindness: 00:02:32.34\00:02:36.07 for they kindled a fire, and received us every one, 00:02:36.11\00:02:39.69 because of the present rain, and because of the cold. 00:02:39.73\00:02:43.27 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, 00:02:43.31\00:02:46.03 and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, 00:02:46.06\00:02:50.62 and fastened on his hand. 00:02:50.66\00:02:52.55 And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, 00:02:52.59\00:02:57.34 they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, 00:02:57.37\00:03:01.81 whom, thou he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth 00:03:01.85\00:03:06.25 not to live. 00:03:06.29\00:03:07.35 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. 00:03:07.38\00:03:11.86 Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, 00:03:11.90\00:03:15.10 or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked 00:03:15.13\00:03:18.96 a great while, and saw no harm come to him, 00:03:18.99\00:03:21.24 they changed their minds, and said that he was a god. 00:03:21.28\00:03:24.87 In the same quarters were possessions of the chief man 00:03:24.91\00:03:28.59 of the island, whose name was Publius; who received us, 00:03:28.62\00:03:32.27 and lodged us three days courteously. 00:03:32.30\00:03:34.73 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick 00:03:34.76\00:03:38.81 of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, 00:03:38.84\00:03:42.55 and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. 00:03:42.58\00:03:46.77 So when this was done, others also, which had diseases 00:03:46.80\00:03:51.20 in the island, came, and were healed: who also honored us 00:03:51.23\00:03:55.59 with many honors; and when we departed, they laded us with 00:03:55.63\00:03:59.53 such things as were necessary. 00:03:59.56\00:04:01.40 And after three months we departed in a ship 00:04:01.43\00:04:04.44 of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, 00:04:04.47\00:04:07.45 whose sign was Castor and Pollux. 00:04:07.48\00:04:10.61 And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days. 00:04:10.65\00:04:14.30 And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: 00:04:14.33\00:04:18.37 and after one day the south wind blew, and we came 00:04:18.40\00:04:21.75 the next day to Puteoli: where we found brethren, 00:04:21.78\00:04:25.09 and were desired to tarry with them seven days: 00:04:25.13\00:04:28.19 and so we went toward Rome. 00:04:28.22\00:04:30.84 And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, 00:04:30.88\00:04:34.75 they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, 00:04:34.79\00:04:37.88 and the three taverns; whom when Paul saw, 00:04:37.92\00:04:40.98 he thanked God, and took courage. 00:04:41.01\00:04:43.56 And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered 00:04:43.60\00:04:47.44 the prisoners to the captain of the guard: 00:04:47.47\00:04:49.76 but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier 00:04:49.79\00:04:53.76 that kept him. 00:04:53.79\00:04:54.76 And it came to pass, that after three days 00:04:54.77\00:04:57.08 Paul called the chief of the Jews together: 00:04:57.11\00:04:59.58 and when they were come together, he said unto them, 00:04:59.62\00:05:02.14 Men and brethren, though I have committed nothing against 00:05:02.17\00:05:06.63 the people, or customs of our fathers, yet was I delivered 00:05:06.66\00:05:11.08 prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans. 00:05:11.12\00:05:14.96 Who, when they had examined me, would have let me go, 00:05:14.99\00:05:18.80 because there was no cause of death in me. 00:05:18.83\00:05:21.49 But when the Jews spake against it, I was constrained to appeal 00:05:21.53\00:05:26.06 unto Caesar; not that I had aught to accuse my nation of. 00:05:26.09\00:05:30.45 For this cause therefore have I called for you, to see you, 00:05:30.48\00:05:34.52 and to speak with you: because that for the hope of Israel 00:05:34.55\00:05:38.55 I am bound with this chain. 00:05:38.58\00:05:41.40 And they said unto him, We neither received letters out of 00:05:41.44\00:05:45.16 Judea concerning thee, neither any of the brethren that came 00:05:45.19\00:05:48.88 showed or spake any harm of thee. 00:05:48.91\00:05:51.22 But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: 00:05:51.25\00:05:54.82 for as concerning this sect, we know that everywhere 00:05:54.86\00:05:58.39 it is spoken against. 00:05:58.43\00:06:00.04 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many 00:06:00.07\00:06:03.96 to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified 00:06:03.99\00:06:08.62 the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, 00:06:08.66\00:06:12.36 both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, 00:06:12.40\00:06:16.07 from morning till evening. 00:06:16.10\00:06:18.17 And some believed the things which were spoken, 00:06:18.21\00:06:21.80 and some believed not. 00:06:21.84\00:06:24.19 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, 00:06:24.22\00:06:28.15 after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost 00:06:28.19\00:06:33.21 by Isaiah the prophet unto our fathers, saying, 00:06:33.24\00:06:36.38 Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, 00:06:36.41\00:06:40.67 and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, 00:06:40.70\00:06:44.89 and not perceive: for the heart of this people is waxed gross, 00:06:44.92\00:06:49.90 and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have 00:06:49.93\00:06:53.68 they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, 00:06:53.71\00:06:57.14 and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, 00:06:57.18\00:07:00.33 and should be converted, and I should heal them. 00:07:00.36\00:07:04.16 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God 00:07:04.19\00:07:08.31 is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. 00:07:08.34\00:07:12.35 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, 00:07:12.39\00:07:16.37 and had great reasoning among themselves. 00:07:16.40\00:07:18.86 And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, 00:07:18.89\00:07:23.01 and received all that came in unto him, preaching the kingdom 00:07:23.05\00:07:27.20 of God, and teaching those things which concern 00:07:27.24\00:07:30.35 the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence, 00:07:30.39\00:07:33.47 no man forbidding him. 00:07:33.50\00:07:35.47 We're reading today from the King James Version, 00:07:37.49\00:07:40.05 and we just completed the book of Acts, and we're now beginning 00:07:40.09\00:07:43.03 the book of Romans, chapter 1. 00:07:43.07\00:07:44.93 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, 00:07:44.97\00:07:49.49 separated unto the gospel of God, (which he had promised 00:07:49.53\00:07:54.01 afore by his prophets in the holy Scriptures,) 00:07:54.05\00:07:56.59 concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the 00:07:56.62\00:08:00.99 seed of David according to the flesh; and declared to be 00:08:01.03\00:08:04.17 the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of 00:08:04.22\00:08:07.69 holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: 00:08:07.73\00:08:11.20 by whom we have received grace and apostleship, 00:08:11.24\00:08:14.65 for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: 00:08:14.68\00:08:19.15 among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: 00:08:19.19\00:08:23.61 to all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: 00:08:23.65\00:08:28.63 Grace to you and peace from God our Father, 00:08:28.66\00:08:32.12 and the Lord Jesus Christ. 00:08:32.16\00:08:33.78 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, 00:08:33.82\00:08:37.99 that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. 00:08:38.02\00:08:42.16 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit 00:08:42.20\00:08:45.59 in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention 00:08:45.63\00:08:49.50 of you always in my prayers; making request, 00:08:49.54\00:08:52.80 if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey 00:08:52.83\00:08:57.99 by the will of God to come unto you. 00:08:58.02\00:08:59.83 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you 00:08:59.86\00:09:03.62 some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; 00:09:03.65\00:09:07.52 that is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual 00:09:07.56\00:09:12.12 faith both of you and me. 00:09:12.15\00:09:14.30 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, 00:09:14.33\00:09:17.43 that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, 00:09:17.47\00:09:20.50 that I might have some fruit among 00:09:20.53\00:09:24.70 you also, even as among other Gentiles. 00:09:24.73\00:09:27.42 I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; 00:09:27.46\00:09:31.59 both to the wise, and to the unwise. 00:09:31.63\00:09:34.64 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel 00:09:34.67\00:09:39.60 to you that are at Rome also. 00:09:39.63\00:09:41.54 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: 00:09:41.58\00:09:44.80 for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that 00:09:44.84\00:09:48.93 believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 00:09:48.96\00:09:53.15 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith 00:09:53.18\00:09:58.58 to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. 00:09:58.61\00:10:03.17 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all 00:10:03.20\00:10:07.48 ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth 00:10:07.52\00:10:11.77 in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God 00:10:11.80\00:10:15.95 is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them. 00:10:15.98\00:10:20.06 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world 00:10:20.10\00:10:24.09 are clearly seen, being understood by the things 00:10:24.12\00:10:27.80 that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; 00:10:27.84\00:10:31.44 so that they are without excuse: because that, when they knew 00:10:31.48\00:10:36.81 God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; 00:10:36.85\00:10:41.48 but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish 00:10:41.52\00:10:46.12 heart was darkened. 00:10:46.16\00:10:47.71 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 00:10:47.75\00:10:52.62 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image 00:10:52.66\00:10:57.76 made like to corruptible man, and to birds, 00:10:57.80\00:11:00.61 and four-footed beasts, and creeping things. 00:11:00.65\00:11:04.29 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, 00:11:04.32\00:11:07.89 through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own 00:11:07.93\00:11:11.87 bodies between themselves: who changed the truth of God 00:11:11.90\00:11:17.47 into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than 00:11:17.51\00:11:23.04 the Creator, who is blessed for ever. 00:11:23.08\00:11:26.08 Amen. 00:11:26.11\00:11:27.08 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: 00:11:27.09\00:11:31.42 for even their women did change the natural use into that 00:11:31.46\00:11:36.09 which is against nature: and likewise also the men, 00:11:36.25\00:11:40.26 leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust 00:11:40.29\00:11:43.27 one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, 00:11:43.30\00:11:47.43 and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error 00:11:47.46\00:11:51.08 which was meet. 00:11:51.12\00:11:52.09 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, 00:11:52.10\00:11:56.37 God gave them over to a reprobate mind, 00:11:56.41\00:11:59.92 to do those things which are not convenient; 00:11:59.96\00:12:03.02 being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, 00:12:03.05\00:12:06.28 wickedness, covetousness maliciousness; full of envy, 00:12:06.31\00:12:11.57 murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 00:12:11.60\00:12:16.84 backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, 00:12:16.87\00:12:23.36 inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 00:12:23.39\00:12:28.39 without understanding, covenant breakers, 00:12:28.43\00:12:31.78 without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 00:12:31.81\00:12:35.08 who, knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such 00:12:35.11\00:12:39.06 things are worthy of death, not only do the same, 00:12:39.10\00:12:42.36 but have pleasure in them that do them. 00:12:42.39\00:12:45.54 We're reading from the King James Version 00:12:45.57\00:12:48.68 the book of Romans, chapter 2. 00:12:48.72\00:12:50.98 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art 00:12:51.02\00:12:56.72 that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, 00:12:56.76\00:13:00.12 thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest 00:13:00.16\00:13:03.83 the same things. 00:13:03.86\00:13:05.90 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according 00:13:05.93\00:13:08.83 to truth against them which commit such things. 00:13:08.87\00:13:12.00 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such 00:13:12.03\00:13:16.40 things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape 00:13:16.44\00:13:20.12 the judgment of God? 00:13:20.16\00:13:21.15 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance 00:13:21.18\00:13:25.72 and long-suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God 00:13:25.76\00:13:30.26 leadeth thee to repentance? 00:13:30.30\00:13:32.51 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up 00:13:32.55\00:13:37.11 unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation 00:13:37.15\00:13:41.68 of the righteous judgment of God; who will render 00:13:41.72\00:13:44.60 to every man according to his deeds: to them who by patient 00:13:44.63\00:13:49.78 continuance in well-doing seek for glory and honor 00:13:49.81\00:13:54.30 and immortality, eternal life: but unto them that are 00:13:54.34\00:13:58.76 contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, 00:13:58.79\00:14:03.02 indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish, 00:14:03.06\00:14:06.23 upon every soul of man that doeth evil; of the Jew first, 00:14:06.27\00:14:10.99 and also of the Gentile; but glory, honor, and peace, 00:14:11.03\00:14:15.25 to every man that worketh good; to the Jew first, 00:14:15.29\00:14:19.41 and also to the Gentile: for there is no respect 00:14:19.44\00:14:23.53 of persons with God. 00:14:23.56\00:14:24.95 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish 00:14:24.98\00:14:28.84 without law; and as many as have sinned in the law 00:14:28.88\00:14:32.29 shall be judged by the law; 00:14:32.32\00:14:33.74
