Hello, and welcome back to HIS WORDS ARE LIFE. 00:00:15.74\00:00:18.29 I'm Kelly Mowrer, and today we'll be reading from the book 00:00:18.32\00:00:21.34 of Acts in the King James Version. 00:00:21.37\00:00:22.84 But before we begin let's pray together. 00:00:22.87\00:00:25.62 Dear Jesus, thank You for another opportunity to come and 00:00:25.65\00:00:29.58 spend time reading the words that you've sent to us. 00:00:29.61\00:00:32.52 Thank You for loving us, and thank you that very soon we'll 00:00:32.55\00:00:36.73 be able to see You face-to-face, and hear from You how much You 00:00:36.76\00:00:41.76 love us, and be able to tell You how much we love You. 00:00:41.79\00:00:44.90 Until that time may these words take root in our heart and bear 00:00:44.93\00:00:49.05 great fruit to Your glory. 00:00:49.08\00:00:50.36 We love You. 00:00:50.39\00:00:51.36 Amen. 00:00:51.37\00:00:52.34 Again, I'm reading today from the King James Version, 00:00:52.35\00:00:54.69 and we're in the book of Acts, Chapter 22. 00:00:54.72\00:00:58.27 And when we left off Paul had just been bound over to some 00:00:58.30\00:01:02.46 centurion's and had explained to them that he was a Roman. 00:01:02.49\00:01:05.76 We're continuing now with Verse 28. 00:01:05.79\00:01:09.54 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained 00:01:09.57\00:01:14.35 I this freedom. 00:01:14.38\00:01:15.43 And Paul said, But I was free born. 00:01:15.46\00:01:18.80 Then straightway they departed from him which should have 00:01:18.83\00:01:23.19 examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, 00:01:23.22\00:01:26.27 after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he 00:01:26.30\00:01:29.51 had bound him. 00:01:29.54\00:01:30.51 On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty 00:01:30.52\00:01:34.29 wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his 00:01:34.32\00:01:37.83 bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to 00:01:37.86\00:01:40.95 appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them. 00:01:40.98\00:01:44.63 And now we'll be reading from Acts beginning Chapter 23. 00:01:44.66\00:01:49.02 And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and 00:01:49.05\00:01:53.85 brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God 00:01:53.88\00:01:57.68 until this day. 00:01:57.71\00:01:58.77 And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him 00:01:58.80\00:02:03.17 to smite him on the mouth. 00:02:03.20\00:02:04.92 Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, 00:02:04.95\00:02:10.42 thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, 00:02:10.45\00:02:14.71 and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law? 00:02:14.74\00:02:18.13 And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God's high priest? 00:02:18.16\00:02:23.63 Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the 00:02:23.66\00:02:27.56 high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the 00:02:27.59\00:02:31.34 ruler of thy people. 00:02:31.37\00:02:32.65 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, 00:02:32.68\00:02:37.24 and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, 00:02:37.27\00:02:40.81 Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: 00:02:40.84\00:02:45.19 of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am 00:02:45.22\00:02:48.21 called in question. 00:02:48.24\00:02:49.24 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the 00:02:49.27\00:02:53.81 Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided. 00:02:53.84\00:02:57.29 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, 00:02:57.32\00:03:00.57 neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both. 00:03:00.60\00:03:04.74 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the 00:03:04.77\00:03:09.11 Pharisees' part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil 00:03:09.14\00:03:13.67 in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, 00:03:13.70\00:03:17.67 let us not fight against God. 00:03:17.70\00:03:19.99 And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, 00:03:20.02\00:03:24.50 fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, 00:03:24.53\00:03:28.55 commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force 00:03:28.58\00:03:32.23 from among them, and to bring him into the castle. 00:03:32.26\00:03:35.09 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, 00:03:35.12\00:03:40.50 Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in 00:03:40.53\00:03:45.29 Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome. 00:03:45.32\00:03:50.40 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, 00:03:50.43\00:03:54.78 and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would 00:03:54.81\00:03:58.36 neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. 00:03:58.39\00:04:01.60 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy. 00:04:01.63\00:04:05.68 And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, 00:04:05.71\00:04:08.65 We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat 00:04:08.68\00:04:12.77 nothing until we have slain Paul. 00:04:12.80\00:04:15.02 Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief 00:04:15.05\00:04:19.01 captain that he bring him down unto you tomorrow, 00:04:19.04\00:04:21.91 as though ye would inquire something more perfectly 00:04:21.94\00:04:25.45 concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, 00:04:25.48\00:04:28.59 are ready to kill him. 00:04:28.62\00:04:30.28 And when Paul's sister's son heard of their lying in wait, 00:04:30.31\00:04:36.39 he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul. 00:04:36.42\00:04:39.79 Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, 00:04:39.82\00:04:43.52 Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a 00:04:43.55\00:04:47.89 certain thing to tell him. 00:04:47.92\00:04:49.31 So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, 00:04:49.34\00:04:53.85 Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this 00:04:53.88\00:04:57.36 young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee. 00:04:57.39\00:05:00.12 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him 00:05:00.15\00:05:04.80 aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast 00:05:04.83\00:05:09.65 to tell me? 00:05:09.68\00:05:10.65 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou 00:05:10.66\00:05:15.91 wouldest bring down Paul tomorrow into the council, 00:05:15.94\00:05:18.93 as though they would inquire somewhat of him more perfectly. 00:05:18.96\00:05:22.53 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of 00:05:22.56\00:05:27.87 them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with 00:05:27.90\00:05:31.50 with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink 00:05:31.53\00:05:34.39 till they have killed him: and now are they ready, 00:05:34.42\00:05:37.43 looking for a promise from thee. 00:05:37.46\00:05:39.68 So the chief captain then let the young man depart, 00:05:39.71\00:05:45.04 and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast showed 00:05:45.07\00:05:49.18 these things to me. 00:05:49.21\00:05:50.38 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready 00:05:50.41\00:05:54.89 two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen 00:05:54.92\00:05:58.97 threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour 00:05:59.00\00:06:03.40 of the night; and provide them beasts, that they may set Paul 00:06:03.43\00:06:07.57 on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor. 00:06:07.60\00:06:11.68 And he wrote a letter after this manner: Claudius Lusias unto 00:06:11.71\00:06:17.45 the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting. 00:06:17.48\00:06:20.98 This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of 00:06:21.01\00:06:25.09 them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, 00:06:25.12\00:06:28.98 having understood that he was a Roman. 00:06:29.01\00:06:31.84 And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused 00:06:31.87\00:06:35.11 him, I brought him forth into their council: Whom I perceived 00:06:35.14\00:06:38.35 to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing 00:06:38.38\00:06:41.73 laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds. 00:06:41.76\00:06:45.11 And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, 00:06:45.14\00:06:49.09 I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers 00:06:49.12\00:06:53.38 also to say before thee what they had against him. 00:06:53.41\00:06:57.66 Farewell. 00:06:57.69\00:06:58.98 Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, 00:06:59.01\00:07:03.32 and brought him by night to Antipatris. 00:07:03.35\00:07:06.52 On the morrow they let the horsemen to go with him, 00:07:06.55\00:07:09.63 and returned to the castle: who, when they came to Caesarea, 00:07:09.66\00:07:13.45 and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul 00:07:13.48\00:07:16.69 also before him. 00:07:16.72\00:07:17.69 And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what 00:07:17.70\00:07:21.35 province he was. 00:07:21.38\00:07:22.86 And when he understood that he was of Cilicia; I will hear 00:07:22.89\00:07:26.84 thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. 00:07:26.87\00:07:30.43 And he commanded him to be kept in Herod's judgment hall. 00:07:30.46\00:07:34.21 We're reading from the book of Acts, King James Version, 00:07:34.24\00:07:39.27 and now beginning with Chapter 24. 00:07:39.30\00:07:41.36 And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the 00:07:41.39\00:07:45.62 elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, 00:07:45.65\00:07:48.55 who informed the governor against Paul. 00:07:48.58\00:07:51.06 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to be accuse 00:07:51.09\00:07:55.04 him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, 00:07:55.07\00:07:59.37 and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy 00:07:59.40\00:08:02.87 providence, we accept it always, and in all places, 00:08:02.90\00:08:06.17 most noble Felix, with all thankfulness. 00:08:06.20\00:08:08.63 Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, 00:08:08.66\00:08:12.48 I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency 00:08:12.51\00:08:16.10 a few words. 00:08:16.13\00:08:17.17 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of 00:08:17.20\00:08:21.60 sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, 00:08:21.63\00:08:24.28 and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: who also hath 00:08:24.31\00:08:29.13 gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, 00:08:29.16\00:08:32.61 and would have judged according to our law. 00:08:32.64\00:08:35.22 But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great 00:08:35.25\00:08:39.56 violence took him away out of our hands, commanding his 00:08:39.59\00:08:42.94 accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom thyself mayest 00:08:42.97\00:08:47.85 take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him. 00:08:47.88\00:08:50.68 And the Jews also assented, saying, that these 00:08:50.71\00:08:54.02 things were so. 00:08:54.05\00:08:55.17 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him 00:08:55.20\00:08:59.79 to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been 00:08:59.82\00:09:05.19 of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully 00:09:05.22\00:09:09.81 answer for myself: because that thou mayest understand, 00:09:09.84\00:09:13.41 that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to 00:09:13.44\00:09:17.64 Jerusalem for to worship. 00:09:17.67\00:09:19.25 And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, 00:09:19.28\00:09:22.99 neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, 00:09:23.02\00:09:26.72 nor in the city: neither can they prove the things whereof 00:09:26.75\00:09:30.68 they now accuse me. 00:09:30.71\00:09:31.86 but this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they 00:09:31.89\00:09:36.54 call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all 00:09:36.57\00:09:41.79 things which are written in the law and in the prophets: 00:09:41.82\00:09:44.93 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, 00:09:44.96\00:09:49.36 that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, 00:09:49.39\00:09:52.48 both of the just and unjust. 00:09:52.51\00:09:55.75 And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void 00:09:55.78\00:10:00.76 of offense toward God, and toward men. 00:10:00.79\00:10:03.26 Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, 00:10:03.29\00:10:08.67 and offerings. 00:10:08.70\00:10:09.88 Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, 00:10:09.91\00:10:14.33 neither with multitude, nor with tumult. 00:10:14.36\00:10:17.43 Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, 00:10:17.46\00:10:20.40 if they had aught against me. 00:10:20.43\00:10:22.08 Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evildoing 00:10:22.11\00:10:26.54 in me, while I stood before the council, except it be for this 00:10:26.57\00:10:31.15 one voice, that I cried standing among them, touching the 00:10:31.18\00:10:35.66 resurrection of the dead I am called in question 00:10:35.69\00:10:38.10 by you this day. 00:10:38.13\00:10:39.19 And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect 00:10:39.22\00:10:43.38 knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, 00:10:43.41\00:10:45.97 When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, 00:10:46.00\00:10:49.31 I will know the uttermost of your matter. 00:10:49.34\00:10:52.76 And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have 00:10:52.79\00:10:56.43 liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance 00:10:56.46\00:10:59.38 to minister or come unto him. 00:10:59.41\00:11:00.88 And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife 00:11:00.91\00:11:04.27 Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him 00:11:04.30\00:11:08.85 concerning the faith in Christ. 00:11:08.88\00:11:10.54 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, 00:11:10.57\00:11:14.22 and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, 00:11:14.25\00:11:18.58 Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, 00:11:18.61\00:11:23.42 I will call for thee. 00:11:23.45\00:11:24.74 He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, 00:11:24.77\00:11:28.47 that he might loose him: wherefore he sent for him the 00:11:28.50\00:11:33.91 oftener, and communed with him. 00:11:33.94\00:11:35.59 But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: 00:11:35.62\00:11:41.53 and Felix, willing to show the Jews a pleasure, 00:11:41.56\00:11:44.26 left Paul bound. 00:11:44.29\00:11:47.10 Again, reading from the King James Version in the book 00:11:47.13\00:11:50.16 of Acts, and we're now beginning Chapter 25. 00:11:50.19\00:11:53.44 Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days 00:11:53.47\00:11:57.69 he ascended from Caesarea to Jerusalem. 00:11:57.72\00:12:00.48 Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him 00:12:00.51\00:12:04.48 against Paul, and besought him, and desired favor against him, 00:12:04.51\00:12:09.25 that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the 00:12:09.28\00:12:13.01 way to kill him. 00:12:13.04\00:12:14.37 but Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Caesarea, 00:12:14.40\00:12:17.95 and that he himself would depart shortly thither. 00:12:17.98\00:12:20.68 Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, 00:12:20.71\00:12:24.57 go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness 00:12:24.60\00:12:28.10 in him. 00:12:28.13\00:12:29.10 And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, 00:12:29.11\00:12:32.11 he went down unto Caesarea; and the next day sitting on the 00:12:32.14\00:12:36.12 judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought. 00:12:36.15\00:12:39.25 And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem 00:12:39.28\00:12:43.38 stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints 00:12:43.41\00:12:47.64 against Paul, which they could not prove. 00:12:47.67\00:12:50.80 While he answered for himself, neither against the law of the 00:12:50.83\00:12:54.93 Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, 00:12:54.96\00:12:58.98 have I offended any thing at all. 00:12:59.01\00:13:02.16 But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, 00:13:02.19\00:13:08.42 and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged 00:13:08.45\00:13:12.15 of these things before me? 00:13:12.18\00:13:13.67 Then said Paul, I stand at Caesar's judgment seat, 00:13:13.70\00:13:19.22 where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, 00:13:19.25\00:13:24.51 as thou very well knowest. 00:13:24.54\00:13:26.60 For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of 00:13:26.63\00:13:30.41 death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things 00:13:30.44\00:13:35.02 whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. 00:13:35.05\00:13:38.68 I appeal unto Caesar. 00:13:38.71\00:13:41.28 Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, 00:13:41.31\00:13:45.42 answered, Hast thou appealed unto Caesar? 00:13:45.45\00:13:48.49 unto Caesar shalt thou go. 00:13:48.52\00:13:51.27 And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto 00:13:51.30\00:13:56.04 Caesarea to salute Festus. 00:13:56.07\00:13:57.99 And when they had been there many days, Festus declared 00:13:58.02\00:14:01.35 Paul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man 00:14:01.38\00:14:04.59 left in bonds by Felix: about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, 00:14:04.62\00:14:08.94 the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, 00:14:08.97\00:14:12.06 desiring to have judgment against him. 00:14:12.09\00:14:14.69 To whom I answered, it is not manner of the Romans to deliver 00:14:14.72\00:14:18.45 any man to die, before that he which is accused have the 00:14:18.48\00:14:22.33 accusers face to face, and have license to answer 00:14:22.36\00:14:25.92 for himself concerning the crime laid against him. 00:14:25.95\00:14:29.77 Thank you for joining today to read the word of God, 00:14:29.80\00:14:33.03 please come again next time. 00:14:33.06\00:14:35.36
