Amen. 00:01:05.73\00:01:07.66 I'm reading from the King James Version, in the book of Acts, 00:01:07.69\00:01:11.93 Chapter 20. 00:01:11.96\00:01:13.06 Paul is speaking and we'll begin with Verse 22. 00:01:13.09\00:01:17.24 And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, 00:01:17.27\00:01:23.30 not knowing the things that shall befall me there: 00:01:23.33\00:01:26.22 save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, 00:01:26.25\00:01:30.12 saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. 00:01:30.15\00:01:33.80 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear 00:01:33.83\00:01:38.83 unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, 00:01:38.86\00:01:42.35 and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, 00:01:42.38\00:01:45.83 to testify the gospel of the grace of God. 00:01:45.86\00:01:49.28 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone 00:01:49.31\00:01:55.11 preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more. 00:01:55.14\00:01:58.98 Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from 00:01:59.01\00:02:04.44 the blood of all men. 00:02:04.47\00:02:06.44 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the 00:02:06.47\00:02:09.80 counsel of God. 00:02:09.83\00:02:10.90 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the 00:02:10.93\00:02:13.93 flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, 00:02:13.96\00:02:17.45 to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with 00:02:17.48\00:02:21.41 his own blood. 00:02:21.44\00:02:22.41 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves 00:02:22.42\00:02:27.13 enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 00:02:27.16\00:02:30.09 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse 00:02:30.12\00:02:34.37 things, to draw away disciples after them. 00:02:34.40\00:02:37.86 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years 00:02:37.89\00:02:42.24 I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears. 00:02:42.27\00:02:46.36 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of 00:02:46.39\00:02:51.41 his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an 00:02:51.44\00:02:55.31 inheritance among all them which are sanctified. 00:02:55.34\00:02:58.35 I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. 00:02:58.38\00:03:03.55 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto 00:03:03.58\00:03:08.48 my necessities, and to them that were with me. 00:03:08.51\00:03:11.21 I have showed you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to 00:03:11.24\00:03:16.41 support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord 00:03:16.44\00:03:19.35 Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. 00:03:19.38\00:03:24.78 And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed 00:03:24.81\00:03:28.95 with them all. 00:03:28.98\00:03:29.95 And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him, 00:03:29.96\00:03:34.54 Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, 00:03:34.57\00:03:37.88 that they should see his face no more. 00:03:37.91\00:03:39.85 And they accompanied him unto the ship. 00:03:39.88\00:03:42.94 Again, we're reading from the book of Acts, the King James 00:03:42.97\00:03:46.01 Version, starting out with Chapter 21. 00:03:46.04\00:03:49.21 And it came to pass, that after we were gotten from them, 00:03:49.24\00:03:53.72 and had launched, we came with a straight course unto Coos, 00:03:53.75\00:03:57.90 and the day following unto Rhodes, and from thence unto 00:03:57.93\00:04:01.02 Patara: and finding a ship sailing over unto Phoenicia, 00:04:01.05\00:04:04.66 we went aboard, and set forth. 00:04:04.69\00:04:06.31 Now when we had discovered Cyprus, we left it on the left 00:04:06.34\00:04:11.19 hand, and sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for there the 00:04:11.22\00:04:15.46 ship was to unlade her burden. 00:04:15.49\00:04:17.93 And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: 00:04:17.96\00:04:21.87 who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not 00:04:21.90\00:04:24.38 go up to Jerusalem. 00:04:24.41\00:04:25.87 And when we had accomplished those days, we departed and went 00:04:25.90\00:04:29.90 our way; and they all brought us on our way, with wives and 00:04:29.93\00:04:33.79 children, till we were out of the city: and we kneeled down 00:04:33.82\00:04:37.08 on the shore, and prayed. 00:04:37.11\00:04:39.07 And when we had taken our leave one of another, we took ship; 00:04:39.10\00:04:43.09 and they returned home again. 00:04:43.12\00:04:44.99 And when we had finished our course from Tyre, we came to 00:04:45.02\00:04:49.58 Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with 00:04:49.61\00:04:52.05 them one day. 00:04:52.08\00:04:53.05 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, 00:04:53.06\00:04:56.68 and came unto Caesarea; and we entered into the house of Philip 00:04:56.71\00:05:00.20 the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him. 00:05:00.23\00:05:04.05 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, 00:05:04.08\00:05:07.67 which did prophesy. 00:05:07.70\00:05:08.99 And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judea 00:05:09.02\00:05:13.93 a certain prophet, named Agabus. 00:05:13.96\00:05:16.15 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, 00:05:16.18\00:05:20.16 and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the 00:05:20.19\00:05:24.42 Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that 00:05:24.45\00:05:29.68 owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands 00:05:29.71\00:05:33.34 of the Gentiles. 00:05:33.37\00:05:34.98 And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, 00:05:35.01\00:05:40.34 besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. 00:05:40.37\00:05:43.78 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? 00:05:43.81\00:05:49.46 for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at 00:05:49.49\00:05:54.33 Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. 00:05:54.36\00:05:56.69 And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, 00:05:56.72\00:06:00.46 The will of the Lord be done. 00:06:00.49\00:06:02.01 And after those days we took up our carriages, 00:06:02.04\00:06:05.17 and went up to Jerusalem. 00:06:05.20\00:06:06.96 There went with us also certain of the disciples of Caesarea, 00:06:06.99\00:06:12.15 and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus, an old disciple, 00:06:12.18\00:06:16.74 with whom we should lodge. 00:06:16.77\00:06:18.40 And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren 00:06:18.43\00:06:21.23 received us gladly. 00:06:21.26\00:06:22.82 And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; 00:06:22.85\00:06:26.83 and all the elders were present. 00:06:26.86\00:06:28.65 And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what 00:06:28.68\00:06:32.16 things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry. 00:06:32.19\00:06:35.81 And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, 00:06:35.84\00:06:39.31 and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of 00:06:39.34\00:06:43.94 Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the 00:06:43.97\00:06:47.36 law: and they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the 00:06:47.39\00:06:51.59 Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, 00:06:51.62\00:06:55.04 saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, 00:06:55.07\00:06:58.37 neither to walk after the customs. 00:06:58.40\00:07:00.67 What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come 00:07:00.70\00:07:04.65 together: for they will hear that thou art come. 00:07:04.68\00:07:07.61 Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which 00:07:07.64\00:07:13.29 have a vow on them; them take, and purify thyself with them, 00:07:13.32\00:07:17.92 and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: 00:07:17.95\00:07:21.70 and all may know that those things, whereof they were 00:07:21.73\00:07:24.98 informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself 00:07:25.01\00:07:28.60 also walkest orderly, and keepest the law. 00:07:28.63\00:07:31.96 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written 00:07:31.99\00:07:35.98 and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that 00:07:36.01\00:07:39.72 they keep themselves from things offered to idols, 00:07:39.75\00:07:42.66 and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. 00:07:42.69\00:07:45.70 Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with 00:07:45.73\00:07:51.13 them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of 00:07:51.16\00:07:55.10 the days of purification, until that an offering should be 00:07:55.13\00:07:59.18 offered for every one of them. 00:07:59.21\00:08:00.49 And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which 00:08:00.52\00:08:05.49 were of Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all 00:08:05.52\00:08:10.26 the people, and laid hands on him, crying out, Men of Israel, 00:08:10.29\00:08:14.09 help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where 00:08:14.12\00:08:17.86 against the people, and the law, and this place: and further 00:08:17.89\00:08:22.55 brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted 00:08:22.58\00:08:25.99 this holy place. 00:08:26.02\00:08:27.25 (For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an 00:08:27.28\00:08:31.95 Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought 00:08:31.98\00:08:34.66 into the temple.) 00:08:34.69\00:08:35.66 And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: 00:08:35.67\00:08:40.06 and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: 00:08:40.09\00:08:42.63 and forthwith the doors were shut. 00:08:42.66\00:08:44.99 And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief 00:08:45.02\00:08:49.57 captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar. 00:08:49.60\00:08:52.75 Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down 00:08:52.78\00:08:56.30 unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the 00:08:56.33\00:08:58.78 soldiers, they left beating of Paul. 00:08:58.81\00:09:01.50 then the chief captain came near, and took him, 00:09:01.53\00:09:04.13 and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded 00:09:04.16\00:09:08.38 who he was, and what he had done. 00:09:08.41\00:09:10.68 And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: 00:09:10.71\00:09:14.91 and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, 00:09:14.94\00:09:18.47 he commanded him to be carried into the castle. 00:09:18.50\00:09:21.26 And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was 00:09:21.29\00:09:24.56 borne of the soldiers for the violence of the people. 00:09:24.59\00:09:27.33 For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, 00:09:27.36\00:09:30.22 Away with him. 00:09:30.25\00:09:31.22 And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said unto the 00:09:31.23\00:09:35.40 chief captain, May I speak unto thee? 00:09:35.43\00:09:38.32 Who said, Canst thou speak Greek? 00:09:38.35\00:09:41.40 Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest 00:09:41.43\00:09:45.80 an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men 00:09:45.83\00:09:49.37 that were murderers? 00:09:49.40\00:09:50.68 But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in 00:09:50.71\00:09:56.84 Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, 00:09:56.87\00:10:00.93 suffer me to speak unto the people. 00:10:00.96\00:10:03.20 And when he had given him license, Paul stood on the 00:10:03.23\00:10:06.90 stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. 00:10:06.93\00:10:09.75 And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them 00:10:09.78\00:10:13.50 in the Hebrew tongue, saying 00:10:13.53\00:10:15.00 Again, we're reading from the book of Acts, Chapter 22. 00:10:15.03\00:10:19.49 Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defense which I make 00:10:22.59\00:10:28.58 now unto you. 00:10:28.61\00:10:29.58 (And when they hard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to 00:10:29.59\00:10:32.82 them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,) 00:10:32.85\00:10:36.92 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in 00:10:36.95\00:10:42.20 Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, 00:10:42.23\00:10:46.12 and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the 00:10:46.15\00:10:49.03 fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. 00:10:49.06\00:10:53.81 And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and 00:10:53.84\00:10:58.91 delivering into prisons both men and women. 00:10:58.94\00:11:01.62 As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the 00:11:01.65\00:11:05.27 estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the 00:11:05.30\00:11:09.34 brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there 00:11:09.37\00:11:12.68 bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished. 00:11:12.71\00:11:16.10 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come 00:11:16.13\00:11:20.51 nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shown from heaven 00:11:20.54\00:11:25.10 a great light round about me. 00:11:25.13\00:11:27.49 And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, 00:11:27.52\00:11:31.50 Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 00:11:31.53\00:11:34.93 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? 00:11:34.96\00:11:38.31 And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, 00:11:38.34\00:11:42.81 whom thou persecutest. 00:11:42.84\00:11:44.54 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, 00:11:44.57\00:11:47.96 and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that 00:11:47.99\00:11:50.41 spake to me. 00:11:50.44\00:11:51.44 And I said, What shall I do Lord? 00:11:51.47\00:11:54.62 And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; 00:11:54.65\00:11:58.36 and there it shall be told thee of all things which are 00:11:58.39\00:12:01.51 appointed for thee to do. 00:12:01.54\00:12:03.14 And when I could not see for the glory of that light, 00:12:03.17\00:12:07.21 being led by the hand of them that were with me, 00:12:07.24\00:12:10.07 I came into Damascus. 00:12:10.10\00:12:11.67 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, 00:12:11.70\00:12:16.07 having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, 00:12:16.10\00:12:19.38 came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, 00:12:19.41\00:12:24.64 receive thy sight. 00:12:24.67\00:12:26.80 And the same hour I looked up upon him. 00:12:26.83\00:12:29.91 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, 00:12:29.94\00:12:35.11 that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, 00:12:35.14\00:12:39.20 and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. 00:12:39.23\00:12:41.88 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast 00:12:41.91\00:12:46.13 seen and heard. 00:12:46.16\00:12:48.20 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, 00:12:48.23\00:12:52.94 and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. 00:12:52.97\00:12:56.67 And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, 00:12:56.70\00:13:01.73 even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; 00:13:01.76\00:13:05.11 and saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get the quickly 00:13:05.14\00:13:09.03 out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony 00:13:09.06\00:13:12.06 concerning me. 00:13:12.09\00:13:13.17 And I said, Lord, they know that I imprisoned and beat 00:13:13.20\00:13:17.95 in every synagogue them that believed on thee: and when the 00:13:17.98\00:13:21.86 blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, 00:13:21.89\00:13:25.65 and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of them 00:13:25.68\00:13:29.47 that slew him. 00:13:29.50\00:13:30.47 And he said unto me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence 00:13:30.48\00:13:35.38 unto the Gentiles. 00:13:35.41\00:13:37.10 And they gave him audience unto this word, and then lifted up 00:13:37.13\00:13:41.14 their voices, and said, Away with such a fellow from the 00:13:41.17\00:13:43.98 earth: for it is not fit that he should live. 00:13:44.01\00:13:46.73 And as they cried out, and cast off their clothes, 00:13:46.76\00:13:49.57 and threw dust into the air, the chief captain commanded him 00:13:49.60\00:13:52.97 to be brought into the castle, and bade that he should be 00:13:53.00\00:13:56.13 examined by scourging; that he might know wherefore they 00:13:56.16\00:13:59.55 cried so against him. 00:13:59.58\00:14:00.97 And as they bound him with thongs, Paul said unto the 00:14:01.00\00:14:04.76 centurion that stood by, Is it lawful to you to scourge a man 00:14:04.79\00:14:08.80 that is a Roman, and uncondemned? 00:14:08.83\00:14:11.11 When the centurion heard that, he went and told the chief 00:14:11.14\00:14:15.22 captain, saying, Take heed what thou doest: for this 00:14:15.25\00:14:17.66
