Hello, and welcome to His Words Are Life. 00:00:16.04\00:00:18.42 I'm Kelly Mowrer. 00:00:18.45\00:00:19.55 Today we'll be reading from the book of Acts, in the King James 00:00:19.58\00:00:22.77 Version, Chapter 18, 00:00:22.80\00:00:24.65 but before we start to read, let's go to God 00:00:24.68\00:00:26.94 in prayer together. 00:00:26.97\00:00:27.94 Dear God, thank you so much for allowing us to come into Your 00:00:27.95\00:00:33.66 presence, and to make a request of You that Jesus has told us to 00:00:33.69\00:00:38.14 make in His name, 00:00:38.17\00:00:39.29 and so we ask that You please send the Holy Spirit to be with 00:00:39.32\00:00:43.39 us right now, to lead us and to guide us as we read; to write on 00:00:43.42\00:00:48.79 our hearts in a new way the words that we will hear, 00:00:48.82\00:00:52.44 that we may learn the lessons from those who have gone before 00:00:52.47\00:00:55.81 us, and served You faithfully, and that we may serve 00:00:55.84\00:00:57.95 You more faithfully, 00:00:57.98\00:00:58.95 and we pray this in Jesus' name. 00:00:58.96\00:01:01.52 Thank You. 00:01:01.55\00:01:02.69 Amen. 00:01:02.72\00:01:03.74 Reading today from the book of Acts in the King James Version, 00:01:03.77\00:01:07.88 Chapter 18, and starting with verse 5. 00:01:07.91\00:01:10.83 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, 00:01:10.86\00:01:15.74 Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that 00:01:15.77\00:01:19.22 Jesus was Christ. 00:01:19.25\00:01:20.75 And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, 00:01:20.78\00:01:24.54 he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon 00:01:24.57\00:01:28.50 your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go 00:01:28.53\00:01:33.20 unto the Gentiles. 00:01:33.23\00:01:34.72 And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's 00:01:34.75\00:01:38.45 house, named Justus, one that worshiped God, whose house 00:01:38.48\00:01:42.73 joined hard to the synagogue. 00:01:42.76\00:01:44.48 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the 00:01:44.51\00:01:48.95 Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing 00:01:48.98\00:01:52.25 believed, and were baptized. 00:01:52.28\00:01:55.09 Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, 00:01:55.12\00:01:59.26 Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace: 00:01:59.29\00:02:05.28 for I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: 00:02:05.31\00:02:10.45 for I have much people in this city. 00:02:10.48\00:02:13.75 And he continued there a year and six months, 00:02:13.78\00:02:17.87 teaching the word of God among them. 00:02:17.90\00:02:20.29 And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made 00:02:20.32\00:02:25.73 insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him 00:02:25.76\00:02:28.46 to the judgment seat, saying, This fellow persuadeth men to 00:02:28.49\00:02:32.22 worship God contrary to the law. 00:02:32.25\00:02:34.34 And when Paul was now about to open his mouth, Gallio said unto 00:02:34.37\00:02:39.72 the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, 00:02:39.75\00:02:44.46 O ye Jews, reason would that I should bear with you: 00:02:44.49\00:02:48.44 but if it be a question of words and names, and of your law, 00:02:48.47\00:02:53.20 look ye to it; for I will be no judge of such matters. 00:02:53.23\00:02:57.65 And he drave them from the judgment seat. 00:02:57.68\00:03:00.26 Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of 00:03:00.29\00:03:04.80 the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. 00:03:04.83\00:03:08.01 And Gallio cared for none of those things. 00:03:08.04\00:03:12.20 And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, 00:03:12.23\00:03:15.76 and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into 00:03:15.79\00:03:18.77 Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his 00:03:18.80\00:03:22.56 head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow. 00:03:22.59\00:03:25.17 And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself 00:03:25.20\00:03:29.74 entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. 00:03:29.77\00:03:32.67 When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, 00:03:32.70\00:03:36.34 he consented not; but bade them farewell, saying, I must by all 00:03:36.37\00:03:41.41 means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: 00:03:41.44\00:03:44.68 but I will return again unto you, if God will. 00:03:44.71\00:03:47.59 And he sailed from Ephesus. 00:03:47.62\00:03:49.57 And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, 00:03:49.60\00:03:52.78 and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch. 00:03:52.81\00:03:55.61 And after he had spent some time there, he departed, 00:03:55.64\00:03:59.26 and went over all the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, 00:03:59.29\00:04:03.93 strengthening all the disciples. 00:04:03.96\00:04:06.10 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent 00:04:06.13\00:04:11.86 man, and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. 00:04:11.89\00:04:16.00 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being 00:04:16.03\00:04:20.06 fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things 00:04:20.09\00:04:24.15 of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. 00:04:24.18\00:04:27.12 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila 00:04:27.15\00:04:32.85 and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, 00:04:32.88\00:04:35.92 and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly. 00:04:35.95\00:04:39.24 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, 00:04:39.27\00:04:44.68 exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was 00:04:44.71\00:04:49.03 come, helped them much which had believed through grace: 00:04:49.06\00:04:53.61 for he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, 00:04:53.64\00:04:57.95 showing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ. 00:04:57.98\00:05:02.57 We're reading from the book of Acts, Chapter 19. 00:05:02.60\00:05:06.04 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, 00:05:06.07\00:05:11.00 Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus; 00:05:11.03\00:05:15.24 and finding certain disciples, he said unto them, 00:05:15.27\00:05:18.26 Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? 00:05:18.29\00:05:21.77 And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether 00:05:21.80\00:05:26.83 there be any Holy Ghost. 00:05:26.86\00:05:28.59 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? 00:05:28.62\00:05:32.65 And they said, Unto John's baptism. 00:05:32.68\00:05:36.19 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of 00:05:36.22\00:05:41.50 repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe 00:05:41.53\00:05:45.03 on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 00:05:45.06\00:05:49.49 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name 00:05:49.52\00:05:52.75 of the Lord Jesus. 00:05:52.78\00:05:54.03 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came 00:05:54.06\00:05:58.47 on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. 00:05:58.50\00:06:01.88 And all the men were about twelve. 00:06:01.91\00:06:04.05 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space 00:06:04.08\00:06:08.55 of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning 00:06:08.58\00:06:13.13 the kingdom of God. 00:06:13.16\00:06:14.25 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil 00:06:14.28\00:06:19.74 of that way before the multitude, he departed from 00:06:19.77\00:06:22.78 them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in 00:06:22.81\00:06:26.94 the school of one Tyrannus. 00:06:26.97\00:06:28.89 and this continued by the space of two years; so that all they 00:06:28.92\00:06:33.25 which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, 00:06:33.28\00:06:37.38 both Jews and Greeks. 00:06:37.41\00:06:39.66 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 00:06:39.69\00:06:43.74 so that from his body were brought unto the sick 00:06:43.77\00:06:47.03 handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, 00:06:47.06\00:06:50.22 and the evil spirits went out of them. 00:06:50.25\00:06:52.64 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them 00:06:52.67\00:06:57.58 to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the 00:06:57.61\00:07:00.13 Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom 00:07:00.16\00:07:03.42 Paul preacheth. 00:07:03.45\00:07:04.42 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the 00:07:04.43\00:07:10.05 priests, which did so. 00:07:10.08\00:07:11.46 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I 00:07:11.49\00:07:16.62 know; but who are ye? 00:07:16.65\00:07:18.32 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, 00:07:18.35\00:07:22.48 and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled 00:07:22.51\00:07:26.11 out of that house naked and wounded. 00:07:26.14\00:07:28.00 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at 00:07:28.03\00:07:31.73 Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord 00:07:31.76\00:07:35.86 Jesus was magnified. 00:07:35.89\00:07:37.85 And many that believed came, and confessed, 00:07:37.88\00:07:41.56 and showed their deeds. 00:07:41.59\00:07:43.37 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books 00:07:43.40\00:07:47.81 together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the 00:07:47.84\00:07:51.90 price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 00:07:51.93\00:07:56.46 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed. 00:07:56.49\00:08:01.52 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, 00:08:01.55\00:08:06.29 when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to 00:08:06.32\00:08:10.50 Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, 00:08:10.53\00:08:13.65 I must also see Rome. 00:08:13.68\00:08:15.24 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, 00:08:15.27\00:08:20.30 Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia 00:08:20.33\00:08:24.70 for a season. 00:08:24.73\00:08:25.70 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way. 00:08:25.71\00:08:30.48 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, 00:08:30.51\00:08:34.47 which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain 00:08:34.50\00:08:38.95 unto the craftsmen; whom he called together with the workmen 00:08:38.98\00:08:41.93 of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft 00:08:41.96\00:08:48.86 we have our wealth. 00:08:48.89\00:08:50.16 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost 00:08:50.19\00:08:55.02 throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away 00:08:55.05\00:08:59.22 much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with 00:08:59.25\00:09:02.87 hands: so that not only this our craft is in danger to be set 00:09:02.90\00:09:07.36 at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess 00:09:07.39\00:09:10.57 Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be 00:09:10.60\00:09:14.62 destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshipeth. 00:09:14.65\00:09:18.38 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of 00:09:18.41\00:09:21.22 wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians. 00:09:21.25\00:09:25.65 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having 00:09:25.68\00:09:30.21 caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, 00:09:30.24\00:09:33.86 Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord 00:09:33.89\00:09:37.31 into the theater. 00:09:37.34\00:09:38.32 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, 00:09:38.35\00:09:41.18 the disciples suffered him not. 00:09:41.21\00:09:43.66 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, 00:09:43.69\00:09:47.26 sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself 00:09:47.29\00:09:51.58 into the theater. 00:09:51.61\00:09:52.69 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: 00:09:52.72\00:09:55.62 for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not 00:09:55.65\00:09:58.95 wherefore they were come together. 00:09:58.98\00:10:00.43 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, 00:10:00.46\00:10:03.39 the Jews putting him forward. 00:10:03.42\00:10:04.92 And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made 00:10:04.95\00:10:07.65 his defense unto the people. 00:10:07.68\00:10:09.21 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about 00:10:09.24\00:10:14.49 the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana 00:10:14.52\00:10:17.65 of the Ephesians. 00:10:17.68\00:10:19.19 And when the town clerk had appeased the people, he said, 00:10:19.22\00:10:23.47 Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how 00:10:23.50\00:10:29.02 that the city of the Ephesians is a worshiper of the great 00:10:29.05\00:10:32.16 goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter? 00:10:32.19\00:10:35.74 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, 00:10:35.77\00:10:39.84 ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly. 00:10:39.87\00:10:43.34 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers 00:10:43.37\00:10:47.23 of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess. 00:10:47.26\00:10:50.47 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with 00:10:50.50\00:10:54.63 him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, 00:10:54.66\00:10:57.93 and there are deputies: let them implead one another. 00:10:57.96\00:11:01.65 But if ye inquire any thing concerning other matters, 00:11:01.68\00:11:05.06 it shall be determined in a lawful assembly. 00:11:05.09\00:11:07.75 For we are in danger to be called in question for this 00:11:07.78\00:11:10.92 day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an 00:11:10.95\00:11:14.52 account of this concourse. 00:11:14.55\00:11:16.64 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly. 00:11:16.67\00:11:20.48 We're reading from the book of Acts, Chapter 20. 00:11:20.51\00:11:23.29 And after the uproar was ceased, Paul called unto him the 00:11:23.32\00:11:27.79 disciples, and embraced them, and departed for to go 00:11:27.82\00:11:31.30 into Macedonia. 00:11:31.33\00:11:32.41 And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them 00:11:32.44\00:11:36.01 exhortation, he came into Greece, and there abode 00:11:36.04\00:11:40.06 three months. 00:11:40.09\00:11:41.14 And when the Jews laid wait for him, as he was about to sail 00:11:41.18\00:11:43.97 into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia. 00:11:44.00\00:11:48.19 And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; 00:11:48.22\00:11:53.35 and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus; 00:11:53.38\00:11:56.83 and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothesus; and of Asia, 00:11:56.86\00:12:00.87 Tychicus and Trophimus. 00:12:00.90\00:12:03.26 These going before tarried for us at Troas. 00:12:03.29\00:12:06.45 And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened 00:12:06.48\00:12:09.91 bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; 00:12:09.94\00:12:12.88 where we abode seven days. 00:12:12.91\00:12:15.32 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came 00:12:15.35\00:12:18.42 together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, 00:12:18.45\00:12:21.47 ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech 00:12:21.50\00:12:25.55 until midnight. 00:12:25.58\00:12:26.55 And there were many lights in the upper chamber, 00:12:26.56\00:12:28.70 where they were gathered together. 00:12:28.73\00:12:29.87 And there sat in a window a certain young man named 00:12:29.90\00:12:33.27 Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was 00:12:33.30\00:12:37.76 long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from 00:12:37.79\00:12:42.14 the third loft, and was taken up dead. 00:12:42.17\00:12:45.38 And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, 00:12:45.41\00:12:49.61 Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him. 00:12:49.64\00:12:52.74 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, 00:12:52.77\00:12:56.35 and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, 00:12:56.38\00:12:59.98 so he departed. 00:13:00.01\00:13:01.57 And they brought the young man alive, and were not 00:13:01.60\00:13:05.51 a little comforted. 00:13:05.54\00:13:06.68 And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, 00:13:06.71\00:13:11.39 there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, 00:13:11.42\00:13:15.05 minding himself to go afoot. 00:13:15.08\00:13:17.95 And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, 00:13:17.98\00:13:21.36 and came to Mitylene. 00:13:21.39\00:13:23.41 And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against 00:13:23.44\00:13:27.06 Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at 00:13:27.09\00:13:30.47 Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus. 00:13:30.50\00:13:33.65 For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not 00:13:33.68\00:13:37.58 spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for 00:13:37.61\00:13:41.90 him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost. 00:13:41.93\00:13:46.04 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the 00:13:46.07\00:13:49.40 elders of the church. 00:13:49.44\00:13:50.41 And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, 00:13:50.42\00:13:53.94 from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I 00:13:53.97\00:13:57.26 have been with you at all seasons, serving the Lord with 00:13:57.29\00:14:00.43 all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, 00:14:00.46\00:14:04.25 which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: and how I 00:14:04.28\00:14:08.98 kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, 00:14:09.01\00:14:12.07 but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, 00:14:12.10\00:14:15.53 and from house to house, testifying both to the Jews, 00:14:15.56\00:14:19.03 and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, 00:14:19.06\00:14:21.67 and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ. 00:14:21.70\00:14:24.52 Thank you for being with me today, to read 00:14:24.55\00:14:27.75 His Words Are Life, and please join me again next time, 00:14:27.78\00:14:30.78 until then, may God bless you. 00:14:30.81\00:14:33.04
