and the different kinds of
people that study Revelation,

is really two different ways

to study this book.

One is to be a water skier

which just skins
the surface of the book

and doesn't really go deep.

And the other way is
to be a deep sea diver.

And I want to be
a deep sea diver,

and I hope you do too.

So here we go, Revelation 14:9

gives the message
of the third angel.

Verse 9 says, "The
third angel followed them,

referring to the other two,

and he said with the loud voice,

If any man worships
the beast and his image,

and receive his
mark in his forehead,

or in his hand,
00:01:46.70\00:01:48.67
The same shall drink the
wine of the wrath of God."

The phrase, the wrath of God

does not mean that
God is gonna at some point

throw a heavenly temper tantrum.

He is not a meanie, is
meanie, He is not cruel,

He is not arbitrary.

When the Bible talks
about the wrath of God,

it refers to His
pure and holy justice

against
legitimate evil, against sin.

And this verse tells
us that at some point,

God's wrath is going to fall,

that justice is going
to drop upon this world,

upon those who get
the mark of the beast.

"The wine of the wrath of God,

which is poured

into the cup of
his indignation--"

Now there is a lot here.

this for many years.

So let's take a close look.

The wine of the wrath
of God, which is poured out

without mixture into the cup,
this mysterious cup, this cup,

the cup of God's wrath
00:03:11.55\00:03:12.89
that the world is going to drink
00:03:12.92\00:03:14.89
at some point in the future
is going to be a cup inside
00:03:14.92\00:03:18.73
of which is a brew
without any mixture.

When you study
carefully the Bible,

you learn that the
God who is up above us,
00:03:27.07\00:03:30.81
the great God of
heaven and earth,

the God who created this world,

His character is a
blend of different attributes.

Exodus Chapter 34

describes the revelation
of God's character to Moses
00:03:41.05\00:03:43.75
and He described
Himself as merciful, gracious,
00:03:43.79\00:03:46.92
longsuffering
which means patient,
00:03:46.96\00:03:49.39
abundant in goodness and truth.
00:03:49.42\00:03:51.49
It says that He forgive sins,
He keeps mercy for thousands,
00:03:51.53\00:03:55.23
but then it also says that
00:03:55.26\00:03:56.60
yet He will by no
means clear the guilty.
00:03:56.63\00:03:59.27
But He does eventually
punish, He punish the sin.
00:03:59.30\00:04:03.10
And those
attributes to put Him together
00:04:03.14\00:04:05.71
basically are
that God's character
00:04:05.74\00:04:08.11
is a blend of mercy
and justice rooted in love.
00:04:08.14\00:04:14.28
Mercy and
justice rooted in love,

that is the true
character of God,

of the God of the Bible
00:04:19.89\00:04:21.42
of the Lord of heaven and earth.

And when the Bible
says that His wrath

which is His pure
justice against sin

is finally poured out on those
who get the mark of the beast

without any mixture.

That word mixture means

that there is
no mixture of mercy

in the final
outpouring of God's wrath.

There is another
passage in the Book of Hebrews

that really brings
this out very clearly.

In Hebrews 10:28-31,

10:28-31, this is
what the Bible says.

In Old Testament times,

"He that despised Moses' law
00:05:02.43\00:05:06.40
died without mercy
under two or three witnesses."
00:05:06.43\00:05:10.97
So those in Old Testament days,
in the time of ancient Israel
00:05:11.01\00:05:14.44
that rejected
God, that despised Him,
00:05:14.48\00:05:17.05
that completely chose to
follow evil instead of God
00:05:17.08\00:05:20.95
and instead of good.
00:05:20.98\00:05:22.32
It says that they
died without mercy.
00:05:22.35\00:05:25.12
In other words, the
justice fell upon them
00:05:25.15\00:05:27.19
without any mercy at all.

When you look at human history,

ever since Adam and Eve
sinned in the Garden of Eden,
00:05:31.66\00:05:34.23
God's mercy has
been bathing this planet.
00:05:34.26\00:05:38.07
It's been over this
planet in spite of its sins.
00:05:38.10\00:05:40.57
Now there was a
time in the days of Noah
00:05:40.60\00:05:42.74
when for the whole
world finally mercy ran out.
00:05:42.77\00:05:46.41
When Noah got into the
ark and his family got in
00:05:46.44\00:05:49.81
and when the door finally closed
00:05:49.84\00:05:52.55
after 120 years of preaching,
00:05:52.58\00:05:55.18
when that, when the door of
the ark closed, that was it,
00:05:55.22\00:05:58.79
mercy had come to an end,
and then seven days later,
00:05:58.82\00:06:02.16
that's when the
water started coming down
00:06:02.19\00:06:04.36
and that's when
justice fully kicked in.
00:06:04.39\00:06:08.83
And Jesus said as it
was in the days of Noah,
00:06:08.86\00:06:11.23
so it shall be the
coming of the Son of Man.
00:06:11.27\00:06:13.84
In other words,
there would be a parallel
00:06:13.87\00:06:15.87
and what the Bible is telling us
00:06:15.90\00:06:17.54
in the message
of the third angel
00:06:17.57\00:06:19.81
is that at some
point in the days ahead,
00:06:19.84\00:06:23.81
right after the
mark of the beast crisis,
00:06:23.85\00:06:25.55
when everybody
makes their choice
00:06:25.58\00:06:26.92
to be on the side
of Jesus or the beast,
00:06:26.95\00:06:29.38
then finally the wrath of
God is going to be poured out
00:06:29.42\00:06:33.02
without mixture
upon the whole world.

As I continue to
read in Hebrews 10.

"He that despised

Of how much more sorer
punishment, suppose ye,

that he shall be thought worthy,

who has trodden
under foot the Son of God,

and has counted the
blood of the covenant,

wherewith he was

unto the Spirit of grace?"

And that's what's gonna
happen at the end of the world.

In Noah's day, people
despised the spirit of grace.

It says that, God said,

My spirit will not
always strive with man.

And eventually when the
world chose to reject God

and Noah's
message, then justice fell.

Verse 30 says,
"We know him who said,

Vengeance belongs to me,
00:07:27.14\00:07:28.61
I will
recompense, says the Lord.
00:07:28.64\00:07:31.05
And again, the Lord
shall judge his people.
00:07:31.08\00:07:34.25
It is a fearful thing
00:07:34.28\00:07:35.75
to fall into the
hands of the living God."

It is a fearful thing

when mercy
finally comes to an end

and then justice strikes.

In the message
of the third angel

is that one of these days

when the mark of the beast hits,

and everybody has a chance

to chose between
Jesus or the beast

and people chose the mark,
00:07:54.80\00:07:56.84
then finally
00:07:56.87\00:07:58.21
God's mercy is going to
run out for the whole world,

and then the wine
of the wrath of God

will be poured out
without any mixture,

fearful thought.

And it says, ''It will be
poured out without mixture

into the cup of
His indignation--"

And notice that word cup,
the cup of His indignation.

"And he shall be tormented
with fire and brimstone

in the presence
of the holy angels,

presence of the Lamb."

Not only His wrath
described in this passage

but the Lamb surfaces

right in the middle
of this fiery language.

The Lamb is Jesus Christ.

And it's amazing

when you really
contemplate this verse

and look at it carefully,
and think about the wrath,
00:08:50.49\00:08:54.13
and think about no
mercy, and think about the cup,
00:08:54.16\00:08:57.73
and then think about
the presence of the Lamb.
00:08:57.77\00:09:01.10
There has never been
a time in human history
00:09:01.14\00:09:04.84
where God's justice
has fully been poured out,
00:09:04.87\00:09:09.38
totally and completely
without a drop of mercy,
00:09:09.41\00:09:13.62
so that people are
punished for all of their sins,
00:09:13.65\00:09:18.05
that has never happened,
not even in the days of Noah.
00:09:18.09\00:09:20.06
When Noah entered the ark
00:09:20.09\00:09:21.69
and the door closed
and the water came down.
00:09:21.72\00:09:24.49
This was just really justice
upon their physical lives

because of their sins

but they weren't
actually punished for every sin

that they've ever committed.

This didn't even
happen in the days of Noah.

There's never been a
time in human history

when anyone has
ever completely and fully

drank the cup of the
wine of the wrath of God
00:09:43.95\00:09:47.38
without a drop of
mercy except for one time.

It happened once and
it happened in the Garden,

called the Garden of Gethsemane.
00:09:58.43\00:10:00.86
And inside that garden was a man
00:10:00.90\00:10:04.03
who the Bible
refers to as the Lamb,
00:10:04.07\00:10:06.90
the Lamb of God
00:10:06.94\00:10:08.27
who takes away
the sin of the world.
00:10:08.30\00:10:10.21
And in the Garden of Gethsemane,
00:10:10.24\00:10:12.11
Jesus Christ wrestled
00:10:12.14\00:10:15.04
with whether He was going
to drink that full cup or not.
00:10:15.08\00:10:20.12
And I firmly believe
00:10:20.15\00:10:22.48
that when we really
understand the depths
00:10:22.52\00:10:25.25
as that we're
not just water skiing
00:10:25.29\00:10:27.16
but we're deep sea divers,
00:10:27.19\00:10:28.59
and we understand the depths
of the third angel's message
00:10:28.62\00:10:32.76
that we'll see in the middle
of all of this fiery language
00:10:32.79\00:10:36.10
about wrath and justice.
00:10:36.13\00:10:37.87
We will see the
deepest revelation of mercy
00:10:37.90\00:10:43.24
that we've ever seen
00:10:43.27\00:10:45.01
and we will be brought directly
into the presence of the Lamb.

So let's turn in
our Bibles reverently

to the Book of Luke,

and let's take a
look at the scene

that is described in God's book.

The scene that takes us
to the sufferings of Jesus.

We're on holy
ground as we look at this.
00:11:08.30\00:11:11.07
Luke 22:39,

this was the night before
Jesus died a long time ago
00:11:14.34\00:11:18.54
just outside Jerusalem up
a slope, east of the city,
00:11:18.57\00:11:25.51
the slope that
went up a mountain
00:11:25.55\00:11:26.95
called the Mount of Olives.
00:11:26.98\00:11:28.58
And Jesus and His
disciples went into a garden
00:11:28.62\00:11:31.15
called the Garden of Gethsemane.
00:11:31.19\00:11:33.32
The Bible says that
Jesus came out of the city
00:11:33.36\00:11:35.42
as He was--
00:11:35.46\00:11:38.29
as He was want or as
He was willing to do,
00:11:38.33\00:11:41.33
and then it says He
went to the Mount of Olives
00:11:41.36\00:11:43.37
and His disciples
also followed Him.
00:11:43.40\00:11:45.63
And when He was at the place
and the place was the garden,
00:11:45.67\00:11:50.31
the entrance of the garden.
00:11:50.34\00:11:51.67
He told His disciples pray
00:11:51.71\00:11:53.34
that you enter
not into temptation

and He was withdrawn
from them about a stone's cast

and then He knelt
down and He prayed,

and Jesus left
eight of His disciples

at the entrance of the garden.

He took three
of them in farther,

He took Peter, James and

doing his awful
deed in the night

meeting with the
priests and taking the money

and getting
ready to betray Christ.

And so, Jesus left eight
at the gate or near the gate,

He took three of
His closest disciples

into the inner recesses
and then He went farther,

He went farther all by Himself
where no human eye could see.

knelt down and He prayed.

He said, "Father, Father,

remove this cup from me."

Notice the word cup.

It's the same word we
read in Revelation 14:10

that people will drink
the wine of the wrath of God

which is poured
out into the cup.

And now here Jesus
is praying in the garden

and He is
calling God, His father

and He said, Father,

if You are willing,
remove this cup from me,

nevertheless not My
will, but Your will be done.

Now, friend,
what was in that cup?

It doesn't mean that Jesus
was actually holding a glass

in His hand or a
plastic container,

it wasn't a literal cup,
that the word cup is a metaphor

for what Jesus
was about to drink,

which means what He
was about to take in

to His, into His soul.
00:13:41.65\00:13:44.09
And what was it?

What was Jesus
about to choose to drink

to take into His soul?

What was inside that cup?

It was a number of things,

one of which was the
sin of the whole world,

the sin of from Adam,

all the way down
to the end of time

of every single human
being that has ever lived,

saint and sinner alike.

Jesus was about to drink
00:14:06.24\00:14:09.24
the cup of sin
of the whole world,
00:14:09.28\00:14:11.78
and also within that cup
00:14:11.81\00:14:14.05
was the wine of
the wrath of God,
00:14:14.08\00:14:17.52
the justice of God
00:14:17.55\00:14:19.62
without a drop of mercy.
00:14:19.65\00:14:24.76
And it was a horrifying thought
for Jesus to contemplate this.

His whole life had
led up to this moment.

All of the ancient prophecies
were about to be fulfilled

and He was there in the
garden struggling with this cup.

Verse 43 says,

"There appeared an
angel to Him from heaven,
00:14:46.11\00:14:49.12
strengthening him."

And I personally
believe, I can't prove this,

but this is just
my personal opinion.

As I thought about this that
if the angel didn't come down
00:14:55.89\00:14:58.69
to strengthen
Jesus in the garden,
00:14:58.73\00:15:01.16
then He probably
would have died right there.
00:15:01.20\00:15:04.33
The pressure and the conflict
inside of Him was so great
00:15:04.37\00:15:09.10
that He could have just
drop dead in the garden,
00:15:09.14\00:15:11.97
but that was not the plan.
00:15:12.01\00:15:13.38
He needed to be
lifted up on the cross
00:15:13.41\00:15:15.61
so that the world could
see what He was going through
00:15:15.64\00:15:18.95
and His love for humanity.

"So the angel came
and strengthened him."

And verse 44 says,

"Being in agony, He
prayed more earnestly.
00:15:24.75\00:15:27.79
And His sweat was as it
were great drops of blood
00:15:27.82\00:15:32.76
falling down to the ground.
00:15:32.79\00:15:36.26
The sweat was
coming out of His head.
00:15:36.30\00:15:37.70
This is actually a
medical condition, it's a,
00:15:37.73\00:15:39.97
there's a word
that describes it.
00:15:40.00\00:15:41.54
It's too long of a word,
I can't even pronounce it.
00:15:41.57\00:15:44.01
But if you look in
the medical literature,
00:15:44.04\00:15:45.71
you'll find out that there
have been certain instances
00:15:45.74\00:15:48.78
where certain people have been
under so much stress and strain
00:15:48.81\00:15:54.28
that they've
actually sweat drops of blood
00:15:54.32\00:15:56.65
out of the pores of
their skin in their foreheads.
00:15:56.69\00:16:00.76
And that's what
Jesus went through
00:16:00.79\00:16:02.56
and the Bible says
that He was in so much agony
00:16:02.59\00:16:05.09
that His sweat was as it
were great drops of blood
00:16:05.13\00:16:07.80
falling down to the ground.
00:16:07.83\00:16:09.16
Now, it's significant
that the mark of the beast
00:16:09.20\00:16:11.47
in Revelation
goes in the forehead
00:16:11.50\00:16:14.17
and in the hand,
00:16:14.20\00:16:15.84
and in this passage
here we see Jesus suffering
00:16:15.87\00:16:20.68
and the intensity of
the suffering is going on,
00:16:20.71\00:16:22.98
it's not inside His
hand, it's not inside His foot,
00:16:23.01\00:16:25.28
it's not inside His
knee, it's inside His forehead,
00:16:25.31\00:16:28.28
it's in His mind, that's
where Jesus was suffering,
00:16:28.32\00:16:31.95
that's where He was wrestling
00:16:31.99\00:16:34.26
and dealing with the
pressure of the sin of the world
00:16:34.29\00:16:37.46
and with the
justice of God against sin.
00:16:37.49\00:16:41.46
Now, I want to
make it very clear

that it doesn't mean that
Jesus is full of love and mercy
00:16:42.86\00:16:45.67
and His Father is
full of just justice,
00:16:45.70\00:16:47.80
it's not justice, it's not that.
00:16:47.84\00:16:49.67
Jesus said in the
Book of John Chapter 10,
00:16:49.70\00:16:51.57
"I and My Father are one."

and what Jesus
Christ did for me.

Seth who is at this
moment, he is eight years old

And my wife and I, we

what it would be like

if my little boy or my
daughter came to me and said,

taking a walk, he would say,

this was a number of years
ago, he was three years old.

And he started
playing with some rocks.

We were out in the
field on a hot day,

and he found a pile of
rocks and he grabbed a rock

and he just
without thinking about it,

he threw the rock behind him.

He was just a little guy
and he still had strong arm

and he threw the rock behind him

and I was
standing right behind him

and the rock came
flying through the air

and hit me right in the mouth.

And like a little obedient robot

But I realized right
away that he didn't really,

and how much could you expect
from a little boy like that,

little kid, but
at least he did it.

And so, I thought, well,

but then within
just a few short seconds,

Seth had actually turned around

and go back to
playing with rocks

but then he turn back
around on his own free will

and he looked at me
with the very intense look,

and he looked at the
blood dripping down my cheeks.

And then he said,
daddy, he said, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry, daddy.

And my heart soared
for joy when he said that

because I knew
that the Holy Spirit

and convicting him

that he had hurt his father.

Well, there is a
lesson for us in that.

You know, we can pray
our prayers and we can say,

I'm sorry for what
I've done to You and Jesus.

but we may not really
mean it in our hearts.

We may just it like robots

because we know
that's we're supposed to say.

But the Lord
doesn't want us to do that.

us to say those words,

realize that we've hurt,

that we have hurt Him,
and that we've hurt His Son,

and that the sins
that we've committed

are worse than we realize.

And in the Garden of Gethsemane,

Jesus took the
cup, He took the sin,

He took the wine
of the wrath of God

He doesn't want us to experience

the wrath poured out

on those who get
the mark of the beast.

drink the cup Himself

so that we would choose Him
and follow Him now and forever.

when the mark of
