The first thing we want
to do on today's program

When Jesus ascended, the Bible

This fact will change some

erroneous thinking and teaching.
According to scripture,

five-fold doma ministry

However, at His ascension,

was and dispersed it to man.

partakers of the heavenly

Jesus the prophet.

This is what an
evangelist does is preach

pastor. Hebrews 13:20 says:

through the blood of
the everlasting covenant. "

teacher - Jesus the teacher.

The Greek word for evangelist

is evangelion, I like that lion
on the end, which very simply

means a preacher of the
gospel, hence - an evangelist.

who will announce good news -

One who declares, brings,

what most of us
believe an evangelist to be.

Now let's look at a few verses
then I'll share some other

of what an evangelist can be.

tells us of Luke's and
Paul's visit with Philip.

evangelist - one of the Seven -

and stayed with him. He
had four unmarried daughters

who had the gift of prophecy.
" Philip, although called

an evangelist here, was one
of the seven men chosen by the

twelve apostles to serve
as assistants under them.

Some people refer to them as
deacons, but whatever they were,

they were especially touched
by God for they had power

report full of the Holy Ghost

appoint over this matter.

Now, you might be
wondering, Do I have the heart

of an evangelist? Well then
you need to do some heart math.

What I am referring to is
Christians who know how to

share the love of Jesus. The
sign of an evangelist is love.

I am talking of those who
know and understand how to pray

for the need of someone
they are sharing Christ with.

All of us must learn
how to minister to others.

None of us are born with
this ability. And hear this:

None of us are necessarily born
again with this ability, either.

We all must learn to overcome
our fears and our insecurities

when it comes to
witnessing and soul winning.

Nevertheless, what if after
learning and knowing how to

do all of this, you
still don't necessarily feel

the witnessing
campaign and the Tuesday night

classes are for you?

Well, maybe you don't have
the heart of an evangelist.

I have a very simple
answer. If this is your case,

you may not be
called to be an evangelist.

What, you say, what do you mean?

What I mean is this: there
are so many gifts and callings

in the body of Christ, as
we have already established

in earlier lessons, what
generally happens in most

churches is this: the leaders
of most churches see that there
00:06:32.21\00:06:37.59
are areas within their churches
that seem to be lacking.

Usually it is the numbers
in the church that are lacking.

Too few numbers to be exact
so the church must do something

about it. Go out into
the highways and the byways

referred to sometimes.

Bring more people in is
the issue. But to do that

Now, here is the problem:
there are those who love

They love to knock on

Does this make these people

more spiritual than you because
they love to do such things

and others
don't? No, not exactly.

If we do all these
things in the natural course

of whatever our calling
might be, then we have no reason

to think we are any
less than those who go boldly

out into the witnessing
field and soul-winning trail.

It may just simply
mean this: those people

may have the call of an
evangelist on their lives.

It really can be that simple.

Then the question arises,

gifts in the church?

leave them when He ascended?

You see, all of the five gifts
of Christ's gifts to the church

gifts of the Holy Spirit,

must be accepted by the
church. When all are in place

and operating as they
should, there will be no lack.

to persuade those not called

The proper way to allow a church
to grow is by teaching it,

our churches the wrong way.

expecting the sheep of the Lord

seen too many ministers

approach will only frustrate

Teach them! Show them!

Help them to first understand
who they are in Christ.

To know who they are
and know who the enemy is.

this, you can then move them

the work of an evangelist?

II Timothy 4:5 says:
"But you, Timothy, be watchful

in all things, enduring
afflictions, doing the work of

an evangelist and making
full proof of your ministry. "

Paul had a special
affection and bond for Timothy.

As you read the two letters
which he wrote to his son

in the faith, you will quickly
see that Timothy was more

than a son.

Paul taught,
discipled, and mentored Timothy

leaving no stone unturned
and leaving nothing to chance.

In the verse we looked at, Paul
admonishes his son in the Lord

to be watchful, to
endure afflictions, to carry out

to the full extent his ministry.
And what was his ministry?

We see in this verse that
he was, among other things,

an evangelist. Do the
work of an evangelist.

Timothy had other giftings,
other callings, other offices,

but Paul reminds
Timothy to not fail in that call

as an evangelist.

Once churches, ministers,
and leaders can accept their

responsibilities according
to Ephesians 4 by teaching

gifts and callings of God,

can move, grow, and function

the apostles, the prophets,

evangelists will be free

would be happy to do it.

Of course, once the Lord
sends that evangelist out

to the world and His witnesses,

very often if at all.

at the gift of the pastor.

But the gift of a pastor is so

"The Lord is my shepherd. "
We see a much wider and clearer

picture of who a shepherd
is. Here the word ra'e means to

tend a flock, to pasture
it, to prepare it for grazing,

to rule - but more in the sense
of leading than dominating.

This is the pastor. It
also suggests that a shepherd

makes friends or has a
friendship with his sheep.

important we are to the Lord.

knows each of us by name.

are in His fold, the sheep

to us and we hear, understand,

and trust Him. Jesus
goes before us when we go out

and leads us when we come
in. He tells us that He gives

us life more abundantly
than we could ever hope for.

He assures us that we will

need to fear the ravenous wolves

us, clothe us, give us water

always be our protector and our

Some churches and some

this question: why is that?

clearly expressed in scripture.

They are not disguised

healings, prophets, miracles,

God in the Old Testament.

They are there for
us to see as examples

Maybe some churches,
maybe some Christians,

their responsibilities

Let's move in and claim them
even as the Children of Israel

of the land of promise

There is no doubt that the

present-day state of the
church needs these gifts.

Now, we are
talking about shepherds.

Who are the shepherds?
Especially, who are the good

shepherds? Pastors who are
good shepherds will care for the

Lord's sheep and for the Lord's
people. A good shepherd will

know each of the sheep by name.
No one sheep will feel unknown,

unloved, or rejected.
Sheep will feel safe in a good

shepherd's fold, rejoicing to
be in that shepherd's pasture.

A good shepherd will seek
God's voice and will hear,

understand and trust Him because
he serves the one true shepherd.

A good shepherd will go before
us when we go out and lead us

not feel alone or isolated.

us about Christ's life. He will

As we look at this list,

what a true pastor or shepherd

and that is to be like Jesus.

Of all the gifts He gives to the
church, the gift of the pastor

is the most clearly
defined and easily seen

in the Word of God. For
this reason alone, no pastor
