Hello, my name's 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.95 and I welcome you to Heaven's Point of View. 00:00:02.96\00:00:04.13 Today's program will conclude the doma gifts given by Jesus 00:00:04.43\00:00:08.55 at His ascension to be used for the perfecting 00:00:08.65\00:00:11.31 or the equipping of the saints so they could finish the works 00:00:11.41\00:00:14.43 of the ministry. The last three gifts are 00:00:14.53\00:00:16.89 the evangelist, the pastor, and the teachers. 00:00:16.99\00:00:20.35 I invite you to get your Bibles and study along with us today 00:00:20.95\00:00:25.22 from Heaven's Point of View. 00:00:25.32\00:00:26.95 The first thing we want to do on today's program 00:00:49.14\00:00:51.13 is look at our foundational scripture 00:00:51.23\00:00:53.60 which is Ephesians 4:11-13. 00:00:53.70\00:00:56.69 It says: 00:00:56.72\00:00:57.78 "And He gave some apostles and some prophets, some evangelists 00:00:57.88\00:01:00.76 and some pastors and teachers for the perfecting of the saints 00:01:00.86\00:01:05.05 for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the 00:01:05.15\00:01:07.72 body of Christ, till we all come into the unity of the faith 00:01:07.82\00:01:11.30 and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man 00:01:11.40\00:01:15.54 unto the measure and the stature of the fullness of Christ. " 00:01:15.64\00:01:19.31 When Jesus ascended, the Bible tells us, "When He ascended 00:01:19.41\00:01:23.67 up on high, He led captivity captive and gave gifts 00:01:23.77\00:01:28.22 unto men. " Please be aware that these gifts were not given, 00:01:28.32\00:01:32.82 WERE NOT GIVEN, until Jesus ascended. 00:01:32.92\00:01:35.39 Not before He ascended. This fact will change some 00:01:35.49\00:01:39.60 erroneous thinking and teaching. According to scripture, 00:01:39.70\00:01:43.64 Jesus was the five-fold doma ministry 00:01:43.74\00:01:47.22 while He was here on earth. However, at His ascension, 00:01:47.32\00:01:50.75 He broke down what He was and dispersed it to man. 00:01:50.85\00:01:56.63 Jesus the apostle, according to Hebrews the 3rd chapter 00:01:57.61\00:02:02.06 and the first verse says: "Wherefore, holy brethren, 00:02:02.16\00:02:05.14 partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the apostle 00:02:05.24\00:02:09.42 and high priest of our profession Christ Jesus. " 00:02:09.53\00:02:13.17 And then there is Jesus the prophet. 00:02:13.27\00:02:16.03 says: "And the multitude said this is Jesus the prophet 00:02:18.05\00:02:21.49 of Nazareth of Galilee. " 00:02:21.59\00:02:24.09 And third is Jesus the evangelist. 00:02:24.19\00:02:26.58 says: "From that time Jesus began to preach. " 00:02:28.73\00:02:32.00 This is what an evangelist does is preach 00:02:32.10\00:02:34.31 and to say "repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. " 00:02:34.41\00:02:38.39 Next is Jesus the pastor. Hebrews 13:20 says: 00:02:38.49\00:02:42.70 "Now the God of peace that brought again from the dead 00:02:42.80\00:02:46.28 our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, 00:02:46.38\00:02:50.74 through the blood of the everlasting covenant. " 00:02:50.84\00:02:54.00 And last is the teacher - Jesus the teacher. 00:02:54.11\00:02:57.95 and these are just some of the scriptures. 00:02:59.58\00:03:01.43 There are so many. 00:03:01.53\00:03:02.50 says: "The same came to Jesus by night and said unto Him, 00:03:03.38\00:03:06.59 'Rabbi, we know that Thou art a teacher come from God 00:03:06.69\00:03:10.43 for no man can do these miracles that Thou doest 00:03:10.53\00:03:13.84 except God be with Him. '" The Greek word for evangelist 00:03:13.94\00:03:18.55 is evangelion, I like that lion on the end, which very simply 00:03:18.65\00:03:23.18 means a preacher of the gospel, hence - an evangelist. 00:03:23.29\00:03:26.81 This word describes one who will announce good news - 00:03:26.91\00:03:30.52 especially the gospel. One who declares, brings, 00:03:30.62\00:03:34.33 or shows the glad tidings. One who preaches the gospel. 00:03:34.43\00:03:39.25 Webster's Old World Dictionary - I like the Old World version 00:03:39.35\00:03:43.51 of this - An evangelist: in the early church, 00:03:43.65\00:03:46.52 one who first preached the gospel to a nation 00:03:46.63\00:03:49.10 or a people. In modern times, a traveling preacher - not 00:03:49.20\00:03:53.09 usually a regular minister in any church. 00:03:53.19\00:03:56.12 Also, one who holds meetings often in the open air 00:03:56.22\00:03:59.66 or in a tent. I love it! 00:03:59.76\00:04:01.35 All of these definitions pretty much tell us the meaning of 00:04:01.46\00:04:05.59 what most of us believe an evangelist to be. 00:04:05.69\00:04:08.43 Now let's look at a few verses then I'll share some other 00:04:08.53\00:04:13.39 slightly different views of what an evangelist can be. 00:04:13.49\00:04:17.60 Acts 21:8-9 00:04:17.70\00:04:19.61 tells us of Luke's and Paul's visit with Philip. 00:04:19.75\00:04:22.99 "The next day we left and came to Caesarea and we went into 00:04:23.09\00:04:27.21 the house of Philip the evangelist - one of the Seven - 00:04:27.31\00:04:31.31 and stayed with him. He had four unmarried daughters 00:04:31.41\00:04:34.33 who had the gift of prophecy. " Philip, although called 00:04:34.44\00:04:38.44 an evangelist here, was one of the seven men chosen by the 00:04:38.54\00:04:42.34 twelve apostles to serve as assistants under them. 00:04:42.44\00:04:46.49 Some people refer to them as deacons, but whatever they were, 00:04:46.59\00:04:50.99 they were especially touched by God for they had power 00:04:51.09\00:04:56.09 and they had favor. These, according to Acts 6:3 00:04:56.19\00:05:00.27 were seven men of honest report full of the Holy Ghost 00:05:00.37\00:05:05.05 and wisdom whom we may appoint over this matter. 00:05:05.15\00:05:09.92 Now, you might be wondering, Do I have the heart 00:05:10.02\00:05:14.58 of an evangelist? Well then you need to do some heart math. 00:05:14.68\00:05:17.99 What I am referring to is Christians who know how to 00:05:18.09\00:05:22.00 share the love of Jesus. The sign of an evangelist is love. 00:05:22.10\00:05:26.29 I am talking of those who know and understand how to pray 00:05:26.39\00:05:30.04 for the need of someone they are sharing Christ with. 00:05:30.14\00:05:33.29 All of us must learn how to minister to others. 00:05:33.39\00:05:37.45 None of us are born with this ability. And hear this: 00:05:37.55\00:05:42.09 None of us are necessarily born again with this ability, either. 00:05:42.19\00:05:46.68 We all must learn to overcome our fears and our insecurities 00:05:46.78\00:05:50.86 when it comes to witnessing and soul winning. 00:05:50.96\00:05:52.82 Nevertheless, what if after learning and knowing how to 00:05:52.92\00:05:57.66 do all of this, you still don't necessarily feel 00:05:57.77\00:06:01.22 the witnessing campaign and the Tuesday night 00:06:01.32\00:06:04.63 soul winning classes are for you? 00:06:04.73\00:06:07.56 Well, maybe you don't have the heart of an evangelist. 00:06:07.66\00:06:11.16 I have a very simple answer. If this is your case, 00:06:11.26\00:06:15.37 you may not be called to be an evangelist. 00:06:15.48\00:06:18.19 What, you say, what do you mean? 00:06:18.29\00:06:22.40 What I mean is this: there are so many gifts and callings 00:06:22.50\00:06:26.02 in the body of Christ, as we have already established 00:06:26.12\00:06:29.04 in earlier lessons, what generally happens in most 00:06:29.14\00:06:32.11 churches is this: the leaders of most churches see that there 00:06:32.21\00:06:37.59 are areas within their churches that seem to be lacking. 00:06:37.69\00:06:42.52 Usually it is the numbers in the church that are lacking. 00:06:42.62\00:06:46.63 Too few numbers to be exact so the church must do something 00:06:46.73\00:06:51.13 about it. Go out into the highways and the byways 00:06:51.23\00:06:54.72 is how it's referred to sometimes. 00:06:54.82\00:06:58.21 Bring more people in is the issue. But to do that 00:06:58.31\00:07:02.47 someone has to go out in order to bring them in. 00:07:02.57\00:07:04.85 That usually means rounding up volunteers. 00:07:04.95\00:07:08.97 God's not looking for volunteers - 00:07:09.07\00:07:11.85 and that may mean YOU that they're looking for. 00:07:11.95\00:07:15.24 Now, here is the problem: there are those who love 00:07:15.34\00:07:18.21 to go out into houses and highways and byways. 00:07:18.31\00:07:21.95 They love to knock on the doors, contact people, 00:07:22.06\00:07:25.11 hand out literature. Does this make these people 00:07:25.21\00:07:28.59 more spiritual than you because they love to do such things 00:07:28.70\00:07:33.28 and others don't? No, not exactly. 00:07:33.38\00:07:37.58 If we do all these things in the natural course 00:07:37.61\00:07:41.20 of whatever our calling might be, then we have no reason 00:07:41.30\00:07:44.95 to think we are any less than those who go boldly 00:07:45.05\00:07:50.26 out into the witnessing field and soul-winning trail. 00:07:50.36\00:07:54.90 It may just simply mean this: those people 00:07:55.00\00:08:00.13 may have the call of an evangelist on their lives. 00:08:00.27\00:08:03.00 We may not. You may not. 00:08:03.10\00:08:06.62 It really can be that simple. 00:08:06.65\00:08:10.39 Then the question arises, 00:08:10.42\00:08:13.10 why are these gifts in the church? 00:08:13.13\00:08:17.29 Why did the Lord leave them when He ascended? 00:08:17.32\00:08:20.50 You see, all of the five gifts of Christ's gifts to the church 00:08:20.60\00:08:24.39 as well as the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit, 00:08:24.49\00:08:26.82 must be accepted by the church. When all are in place 00:08:26.92\00:08:31.36 and operating as they should, there will be no lack. 00:08:31.46\00:08:35.18 Churches will not feel the need to persuade those not called 00:08:35.28\00:08:39.77 to evangelism to do the work of an evangelist. 00:08:39.87\00:08:42.88 Or to put it in another way, when the gifts and callings 00:08:42.98\00:08:46.52 of God are all working at full force, the evangelists will 00:08:46.62\00:08:51.44 gladly do their job and we will be free to do ours. 00:08:51.54\00:08:55.51 The proper way to allow a church to grow is by teaching it, 00:08:55.61\00:09:00.03 by encouraging it, and by showing it how to function 00:09:00.14\00:09:04.88 as it ought. Too many of us and too many churches 00:09:04.98\00:09:08.30 are going about building our churches the wrong way. 00:09:08.40\00:09:11.90 Don't start out by expecting the sheep of the Lord 00:09:12.00\00:09:15.70 to be perfect. I've seen too many ministers 00:09:15.80\00:09:19.03 take that approach. That approach will only frustrate 00:09:19.13\00:09:22.06 the people. Teach them! Show them! 00:09:22.16\00:09:25.65 Help them to first understand who they are in Christ. 00:09:25.78\00:09:30.23 To know who they are and know who the enemy is. 00:09:30.33\00:09:32.77 Once you can show them this, you can then move them 00:09:32.87\00:09:35.91 to a place where they will delight to serve Him 00:09:36.01\00:09:38.97 thus making it very easy to find out what gifts 00:09:39.08\00:09:42.79 they may have been given by the Lord. 00:09:42.89\00:09:45.74 Once they know their giftings and callings, then they can 00:09:45.84\00:09:50.05 actually help you prepare others for ministry and help to edify 00:09:50.15\00:09:55.15 and build up the local church. It is a process. 00:09:55.25\00:09:58.83 It is a teaching process. Some learn more quickly 00:09:58.94\00:10:02.93 than others do - so patience is of the essence. 00:10:03.03\00:10:07.41 Well, Pastor Hal, what is the work of an evangelist? 00:10:07.51\00:10:11.78 II Timothy 4:5 says: "But you, Timothy, be watchful 00:10:11.88\00:10:16.44 in all things, enduring afflictions, doing the work of 00:10:16.55\00:10:19.98 an evangelist and making full proof of your ministry. " 00:10:20.08\00:10:23.59 Paul had a special affection and bond for Timothy. 00:10:23.69\00:10:26.02 As you read the two letters which he wrote to his son 00:10:26.12\00:10:30.14 in the faith, you will quickly see that Timothy was more 00:10:30.24\00:10:33.35 than a son. 00:10:33.45\00:10:34.63 Paul taught, discipled, and mentored Timothy 00:10:34.66\00:10:39.87 leaving no stone unturned and leaving nothing to chance. 00:10:39.93\00:10:43.68 In the verse we looked at, Paul admonishes his son in the Lord 00:10:43.78\00:10:47.50 to be watchful, to endure afflictions, to carry out 00:10:47.60\00:10:51.48 to the full extent his ministry. And what was his ministry? 00:10:51.58\00:10:55.78 We see in this verse that he was, among other things, 00:10:55.88\00:10:58.90 an evangelist. Do the work of an evangelist. 00:10:59.00\00:11:02.99 Timothy had other giftings, other callings, other offices, 00:11:03.09\00:11:07.44 but Paul reminds Timothy to not fail in that call 00:11:07.54\00:11:11.95 as an evangelist. 00:11:12.15\00:11:13.60 Once churches, ministers, and leaders can accept their 00:11:15.11\00:11:20.45 responsibilities according to Ephesians 4 by teaching 00:11:20.55\00:11:23.96 and helping all gifts and callings of God, 00:11:24.06\00:11:27.06 then we - the whole body - can move, grow, and function 00:11:27.16\00:11:32.83 as we are meant to. And the apostles, the prophets, 00:11:32.93\00:11:36.96 the pastors, the teachers, evangelists will be free 00:11:37.06\00:11:39.98 to minister, to edify, and build up the church 00:11:40.08\00:11:43.04 the way that Christ intended evangelists to be: 00:11:43.14\00:11:45.61 encouraged in our churches not exploited. Did you hear that? 00:11:45.71\00:11:50.02 Evangelists need to be encouraged in our churches 00:11:50.12\00:11:53.48 not exploited. Preparation needs to be made to have 00:11:53.58\00:11:57.10 evangelists in and be able to meet their expense. 00:11:57.20\00:12:00.79 I don't believe that in the ministry that you ought to 00:12:00.89\00:12:03.15 go out there to make big bucks. But I also don't believe 00:12:03.26\00:12:06.63 that you need to go under the unction of God and it be a 00:12:06.73\00:12:10.26 burden upon you. Now see that goes for all five of these 00:12:10.36\00:12:13.92 special anointed gifts of Christ. 00:12:14.02\00:12:15.83 You need a soul winner? Find someone who has the gift 00:12:15.93\00:12:19.08 and call of an evangelist. You need to send someone out 00:12:19.18\00:12:23.02 witnessing? Get hold of the evangelist. 00:12:23.12\00:12:27.01 You want someone to canvass the neighborhood? 00:12:27.05\00:12:30.22 The evangelist would be happy to do it. 00:12:30.32\00:12:32.52 Of course, once the Lord sends that evangelist out 00:12:32.62\00:12:35.26 to the rest of the church and to the world and His witnesses, 00:12:35.36\00:12:38.59 you may not see him very often if at all. 00:12:38.69\00:12:42.71 One other point. If we as pastors and teachers 00:12:42.81\00:12:47.08 do not teach and encourage and bless the five-fold ministry 00:12:47.19\00:12:51.62 within our churches, then we cannot expect to find 00:12:51.72\00:12:54.49 that evangelist. Did you hear that? 00:12:54.59\00:12:56.80 If we do not embrace them, if we do not accept them, 00:12:56.90\00:13:00.01 then you will never find that evangelist or the other 00:13:00.11\00:13:03.04 ministers of the five fold. When we may need him or her 00:13:03.14\00:13:08.60 they will not be accepted or any of the helpful gifts 00:13:08.70\00:13:12.86 Christ has so graciously given to His church. 00:13:12.92\00:13:14.83 The one thing that I have seen do much harm to the body 00:13:14.97\00:13:19.22 of Christ concerning the gift of the evangelist, is 00:13:19.32\00:13:22.85 for a true evangelist to try to pastor a church. 00:13:22.95\00:13:27.31 The heart of an evangelist is somewhere out there 00:13:27.41\00:13:32.95 in the fields, the highways, and the byways - not in the 00:13:33.05\00:13:35.81 local pasture or with the local sheep. 00:13:35.92\00:13:40.12 Now, next we want to look at the gift of the pastor. 00:13:41.93\00:13:45.78 I said at the beginning of the program this is an overview. 00:13:45.88\00:13:48.56 It's not an in-depth study. But the gift of a pastor is so 00:13:48.66\00:13:53.38 powerful. The Greek word of poimaino defines the ministry 00:13:53.48\00:13:57.90 a calling of the shepherd who is called of the Lord. 00:13:58.01\00:14:01.47 However, if we look at the Hebrew word for shepherd -re'a - 00:14:01.57\00:14:05.61 specifically where shepherd is used in Psalms 23. 00:14:05.71\00:14:10.23 "The Lord is my shepherd. " We see a much wider and clearer 00:14:10.33\00:14:15.72 picture of who a shepherd is. Here the word ra'e means to 00:14:15.82\00:14:20.49 tend a flock, to pasture it, to prepare it for grazing, 00:14:20.59\00:14:26.20 to rule - but more in the sense of leading than dominating. 00:14:26.30\00:14:31.47 This is the pastor. It also suggests that a shepherd 00:14:31.57\00:14:34.66 makes friends or has a friendship with his sheep. 00:14:34.76\00:14:37.55 As a herdsman who keeps sheep. 00:14:37.65\00:14:40.44 This is brought out very nicely 00:14:40.47\00:14:43.65 in the teachings of Jesus and the good shepherd 00:14:43.77\00:14:46.87 in John 10:14. It says: 00:14:46.90\00:14:51.60 "I am the good shepherd and I know my sheep, 00:14:51.67\00:14:56.21 and I am known by those who are mine. " 00:14:56.24\00:15:00.29 >From this one portion of scripture in John 10 here, 00:15:00.39\00:15:04.30 we are reminded of just how important we are to the Lord. 00:15:04.40\00:15:07.92 For example, He cares for you. 00:15:08.02\00:15:12.91 He cares for us. He knows each of us by name. 00:15:13.01\00:15:17.29 Can you imagine it? We are in His fold, the sheep 00:15:17.39\00:15:21.23 of His pasture. He speaks to us and we hear, understand, 00:15:21.33\00:15:26.64 and trust Him. Jesus goes before us when we go out 00:15:26.74\00:15:31.94 and leads us when we come in. He tells us that He gives 00:15:32.04\00:15:36.14 us life more abundantly than we could ever hope for. 00:15:36.24\00:15:40.94 His life - eternal life. He assures us that we will 00:15:41.04\00:15:46.00 know His voice and have no need to fear the ravenous wolves 00:15:46.10\00:15:51.13 that lurk about. He will feed us, clothe us, give us water 00:15:51.23\00:15:57.00 to drink, and He will always be our protector and our 00:15:57.10\00:16:02.09 covering, never leaving or forsaking us. 00:16:02.19\00:16:05.52 And lastly, but most importantly, 00:16:05.62\00:16:08.64 the good shepherd is willing to lay down His life 00:16:08.74\00:16:14.12 for His sheep, and He will do it willingly, 00:16:14.15\00:16:17.12 and He will do it gladly. 00:16:17.16\00:16:19.34 Some churches and some pastors, not all, say they not 00:16:20.21\00:16:25.45 known nor they have never even heard about the doma gifts. 00:16:25.56\00:16:28.69 It makes me want to ask this question: why is that? 00:16:28.80\00:16:33.45 These gifts are clearly expressed in scripture. 00:16:33.55\00:16:36.77 They are not hidden. They are not disguised 00:16:36.87\00:16:39.85 in mysterious words or in convoluted texts or symbolisms. 00:16:39.96\00:16:44.33 There are even healings, prophets, miracles, 00:16:44.43\00:16:48.61 and mighty acts of God in the Old Testament. 00:16:48.71\00:16:51.73 They are there for us to see as examples 00:16:51.83\00:16:55.30 if we will but have eyes to see them. 00:16:55.33\00:16:58.35 It may be this is why Jesus only gave 00:16:58.38\00:17:03.28 some of each. 00:17:03.38\00:17:04.40 Maybe some churches, maybe some Christians, 00:17:04.92\00:17:08.59 didn't fully understand their responsibilities 00:17:08.69\00:17:12.03 for the five-fold gifts and they did not receive them. 00:17:12.13\00:17:16.13 Let's move in and claim them even as the Children of Israel 00:17:16.23\00:17:21.48 moved in claiming all of the land of promise 00:17:21.58\00:17:24.51 for the time is short. There is no doubt that the 00:17:24.61\00:17:27.79 present-day state of the church needs these gifts. 00:17:27.89\00:17:30.75 Now, we are talking about shepherds. 00:17:30.85\00:17:34.02 Who are the shepherds? Especially, who are the good 00:17:34.12\00:17:38.66 shepherds? Pastors who are good shepherds will care for the 00:17:38.76\00:17:43.40 Lord's sheep and for the Lord's people. A good shepherd will 00:17:43.50\00:17:47.46 know each of the sheep by name. No one sheep will feel unknown, 00:17:47.56\00:17:52.59 unloved, or rejected. Sheep will feel safe in a good 00:17:52.69\00:17:57.52 shepherd's fold, rejoicing to be in that shepherd's pasture. 00:17:57.62\00:18:01.46 A good shepherd will seek God's voice and will hear, 00:18:01.56\00:18:06.61 understand and trust Him because he serves the one true shepherd. 00:18:06.70\00:18:12.36 A good shepherd will go before us when we go out and lead us 00:18:12.46\00:18:16.52 when we come in. We will not feel alone or isolated. 00:18:16.63\00:18:21.60 A good shepherd will teach us about Christ's life. He will 00:18:21.70\00:18:25.84 teach us about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ - 00:18:25.94\00:18:27.70 helping us to grow more abundantly in Christ. 00:18:27.80\00:18:31.41 His life, eternal life. A good shepherd, a good pastor, 00:18:31.51\00:18:37.25 will assure us and teach us how to know the voice of Christ 00:18:37.35\00:18:41.33 and have no need to fear the ravenous wolves that lurk about. 00:18:41.43\00:18:45.02 Pastors who are good shepherds will teach us to trust Christ 00:18:45.12\00:18:50.62 who will feed us, who will clothe us, who will give us 00:18:50.72\00:18:54.39 water to drink, and he will always be our protector and our 00:18:54.49\00:18:58.25 covering. Never leaving us or forsaking us. 00:18:58.35\00:19:01.15 And lastly, but most importantly a good shepherd will be willing 00:19:01.25\00:19:07.19 to lay down his life for his flock 00:19:07.29\00:19:09.78 who are really God's sheep. This sacrifice was done 00:19:09.88\00:19:14.45 willingly and gladly. As we look at this list, 00:19:14.55\00:19:17.58 let's remember that we have taken these traits 00:19:17.68\00:19:21.30 from the words of Jesus himself in describing himself. 00:19:21.40\00:19:25.08 He gave us a clear picture of what a true pastor or shepherd 00:19:25.18\00:19:30.23 should endeavor to be like and that is to be like Jesus. 00:19:30.33\00:19:34.27 Of all the gifts He gives to the church, the gift of the pastor 00:19:34.37\00:19:38.72 is the most clearly defined and easily seen 00:19:38.82\00:19:42.96 in the Word of God. For this reason alone, no pastor 00:19:43.06\00:19:47.37 of God's flock should feel as though he has no direction 00:19:47.47\00:19:51.74 or no goal for which to aim. The calling and the duties 00:19:51.84\00:19:55.87 of a pastor are so very clearly revealed there should be 00:19:55.97\00:20:00.36 no doubt as to what is expected of him. It is, I know, a 00:20:00.46\00:20:04.32 tough job. I've been there, done that. It's a difficult job, 00:20:04.42\00:20:08.08 one that needs all the help and aid possible. 00:20:08.18\00:20:10.83 And without the gifts God has given to the church, 00:20:10.93\00:20:14.58 we are intended to feel any lack of strength, any weak areas. 00:20:14.68\00:20:20.37 Pastors really do have it hard. 00:20:20.47\00:20:23.95 But last, and not the least of the gifts, 00:20:25.12\00:20:30.32 of the teacher. 00:20:30.42\00:20:32.13 I personally believe from my heart. I personally believe 00:20:32.46\00:20:37.44 this to be the most powerful of the five-fold gifts. 00:20:37.54\00:20:39.87 I believe it is the one to be the most reverenced because 00:20:39.97\00:20:44.47 of what it produces. Matthew 7:22-23 says: 00:20:44.57\00:20:49.86 "Many will say unto Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not 00:20:49.96\00:20:53.43 prophesied in Thy name and in Thy name have we not cast out 00:20:53.53\00:20:56.95 devils in Thy name and done many wonderful works? 00:20:57.05\00:21:00.36 And then I will profess unto them I never knew you. 00:21:00.39\00:21:06.01 Depart from Me, ye that work iniquity. " 00:21:06.05\00:21:09.20 It will not be enough to just 00:21:09.23\00:21:11.25 do something or teach something in the name of Jesus. 00:21:11.35\00:21:14.00 We must be so intimately acquainted with Jesus 00:21:14.11\00:21:18.14 that it is only His word 00:21:18.24\00:21:22.06 and His will that will flow from us 00:21:22.09\00:21:25.74 and never our own. For 18 years I taught that the 00:21:25.85\00:21:30.58 evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit 00:21:30.71\00:21:32.75 was speaking in incoherent tongues. 00:21:32.88\00:21:34.94 Due to my own misunderstanding of the true baptism of the 00:21:34.98\00:21:38.87 Holy Spirit. I was wrong. I was wrong. 00:21:38.97\00:21:41.14 I now thank God that He has given me the opportunity 00:21:41.24\00:21:45.09 to repent and now teaches the truth through me 00:21:45.19\00:21:50.30 to the saints of God. You see, He gave some apostles, 00:21:50.40\00:21:54.07 and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors 00:21:54.17\00:21:57.72 and teachers for the perfecting of the saints. 00:21:57.82\00:22:01.59 Hey, we are going to take a short break, and we will be 00:22:01.70\00:22:04.53 right back after that - so don't go away. 00:22:04.63\00:22:07.22 If you've been confused about what the Bible says about 00:22:09.31\00:22:12.21 the Holy Spirit's amazing gifts for the church, 00:22:12.31\00:22:14.05 you'll want to order your very own copy of this 13-part series. 00:22:14.15\00:22:18.01 It's available on DVD or video cassette from 3ABN 00:22:18.11\00:22:22.03 at a very special price. This 13-part series 00:22:22.13\00:22:25.33 with Pastor Hal Steenson makes a wonderful gift for a friend 00:22:25.43\00:22:28.45 or a family member. Just call us at: 00:22:28.55\00:22:30.06 and we'll be happy to take your order. 00:22:33.95\00:22:35.70 You may also order it online at: 00:22:35.80\00:22:37.42 Again, the phone number is: 00:22:41.19\00:22:42.32 You know, although the five-fold ministry gifts that Jesus gave 00:22:54.92\00:22:58.10 to the church appear to be given individually, it is possible 00:22:58.20\00:23:02.09 for someone to be an apostle teacher, or a prophet teacher, 00:23:02.19\00:23:05.77 or an evangelist teacher, or a pastor teacher. 00:23:05.87\00:23:08.19 Someone may also stand in the office of the teacher only. 00:23:08.29\00:23:12.40 Those who have only a teaching ministry usually travel. 00:23:12.50\00:23:16.13 Some pastors may also serve as itinerant teachers as well. 00:23:16.23\00:23:20.91 Those who do must always keep their home flock 00:23:21.01\00:23:26.24 as their number one priority. During the 18 years 00:23:26.34\00:23:30.22 that I pastored, I would preach and teach for other pastors. 00:23:30.32\00:23:33.47 However, my own home flock was always my number one concern. 00:23:33.57\00:23:38.82 They were where my heart was. Matthew 6:21 says: 00:23:38.92\00:23:43.96 "For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also. " 00:23:44.06\00:23:47.94 A pastor teacher could easily lose a congregation 00:23:48.05\00:23:53.30 by not keeping them his number one concern. 00:23:53.40\00:23:57.82 Excellent teachers, excellent teachers are always excellent 00:23:57.92\00:24:02.01 students. This is the only way to excel in this supernatural 00:24:02.11\00:24:06.20 office. Teachers are always open to experience 00:24:06.30\00:24:09.63 present truths. A good example of this would be my wife, 00:24:09.73\00:24:14.09 Molly Sue, and our friend, Shelly Quinn, who are both 00:24:14.19\00:24:17.65 excellent teachers. They came into the truth more readily than 00:24:17.75\00:24:22.41 most people because they have the ministry gift of a teacher. 00:24:22.51\00:24:26.71 The teacher will diligently study the scriptures so as not 00:24:26.82\00:24:31.71 to be fooled or confused. 00:24:31.81\00:24:33.62 says: "And a certain Jew named Apollo's, born in Alexandria, 00:24:36.46\00:24:40.20 an eloquent man and mighty in the scriptures, mighty in the 00:24:40.30\00:24:43.76 scriptures, came to Ephesus. This man was instructed in the 00:24:43.87\00:24:47.42 way of the Lord and being fervent in the Spirit, he spake 00:24:47.52\00:24:51.64 and talked diligently the things of the Lord. 00:24:51.74\00:24:54.46 Knowing only the baptism of John he began to speak boldly in the 00:24:54.56\00:24:58.45 synagogue whom, when Aquilla and Priscilla had heard, they took 00:24:58.56\00:25:02.53 unto them and they expounded to him the way of God 00:25:02.63\00:25:05.83 more perfectly. " 00:25:05.94\00:25:08.62 Obviously, obviously, when Aquilla and Priscilla approached 00:25:08.73\00:25:12.20 Appolos, he was humble enough to receive their instruction. 00:25:12.30\00:25:17.18 They had the further revelation of the New Testament he needed 00:25:17.28\00:25:22.26 and he was willing to pay the price to get it. 00:25:22.36\00:25:25.06 No doubt they shared the foundational doctrines of 00:25:25.16\00:25:28.58 Christ with him. The apostle Paul refers to these doctrines 00:25:28.68\00:25:32.09 in his letter to the Hebrews. Hebrews 6:1-2 says: 00:25:32.20\00:25:35.66 "Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of 00:25:35.77\00:25:40.13 Christ let us go on unto perfection, not laying again 00:25:40.23\00:25:43.88 the foundation of repentance from dead works, 00:25:43.98\00:25:46.89 and of faith toward God and the doctrine of baptism and the 00:25:47.00\00:25:51.61 laying on of hands and of the resurrection of the dead, 00:25:51.71\00:25:54.52 and of eternal judgment. " An excellent teacher, 00:25:54.62\00:25:58.34 an excellent teacher is grounded in all of these. 00:25:58.44\00:26:01.47 An excellent teacher is also grounded in major Bible 00:26:01.57\00:26:03.82 doctrines. For example, the oneness of the Trinity. 00:26:03.92\00:26:07.02 The deity of Christ. The fall and the redemption of man. 00:26:07.12\00:26:11.12 The church ordinances and government. 00:26:11.22\00:26:13.92 The ministry office. Scriptural gifts, divine healing, 00:26:14.02\00:26:18.02 and the advent of Jesus, the reign of Jesus Christ, the final 00:26:18.12\00:26:22.46 destiny of the righteous and the wicked, the great controversy, 00:26:22.57\00:26:25.97 Revelation, and all these areas and more are the marks of a true 00:26:26.07\00:26:31.50 New Testament teacher. The teaching office is 00:26:31.60\00:26:35.63 supernatural. Just because someone is a school teacher, 00:26:35.73\00:26:39.01 does not necessarily mean he or she can teach the Bible. 00:26:39.11\00:26:43.07 No one calls himself or herself to any of these five-fold 00:26:43.17\00:26:46.72 ministry offices. There must be 00:26:47.01\00:26:49.46 an anointing from the Holy Spirit 00:26:49.50\00:26:50.98 to stand in any of these supernatural offices. 00:26:51.02\00:26:53.77 There must be a divine calling 00:26:53.87\00:26:56.65 by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 00:26:56.68\00:27:00.78 What we've been looking at for these last 13 programs 00:27:00.82\00:27:05.56 are the gifts of the Spirit and the gifts given by Jesus. 00:27:05.66\00:27:09.66 Why have we been looking at them? 00:27:09.76\00:27:11.36 Well, the truth is so much of the church world knows very very 00:27:11.46\00:27:16.45 little about any of these gifts. How they do operate 00:27:16.55\00:27:20.22 and how they don't. Mostly what we know is there 00:27:20.32\00:27:24.43 is a lot of error surrounding the use and the misuse of 00:27:24.53\00:27:28.40 these gifts. But they are real. Do you hear me? They are real! 00:27:28.50\00:27:32.42 And they are given to the church by the Holy Spirit 00:27:32.52\00:27:35.55 and by Jesus Christ, the Son of God, in order that 00:27:35.65\00:27:38.45 He might protect us from the wiles of the enemy. 00:27:38.55\00:27:41.33 And the doma gifts that they might perfect us in order that 00:27:41.43\00:27:44.69 we might grow into the maturity of Christ. 00:27:44.79\00:27:47.06 Be willing, please be willing to embrace them. 00:27:47.16\00:27:50.73 I pray that somehow, some way, I have spoken something 00:27:50.83\00:27:53.82 into some of your lives that will help you overcome the enemy 00:27:53.92\00:27:58.74 in these last days and move out in the ministry gift that God 00:27:58.85\00:28:02.10 has placed on you through Jesus Christ. 00:28:02.20\00:28:05.13 And do the work of the ministry. 00:28:05.23\00:28:06.77 And cause this thing to come to a complete end. 00:28:06.88\00:28:10.65 On our next Heaven's Point of View, we will be looking at the 00:28:31.31\00:28:33.97 purpose of the Holy Spirit for the church today. 00:28:34.07\00:28:37.20 So be sure and check your 3ABN World for the date 00:28:37.30\00:28:41.82 and the time, and we'll see you there. 00:28:41.93\00:28:44.26
