as our foundation we will see

grossly misunderstood.
Now keep this thought in mind,

considered to be an "angelic"

or setting, what always follows

is a false, FALSE
interpretation of that tongue.

a vital foundational truth

is a spiritual endowment

on the face of this earth

learned patterns of behavior

As Christians professing to know

Word, we must recognize this

acquired only as a gift given by

interpretation can be learned,

Once we understand the truth

gift of interpretation bestowed

The receiver of this gift

Now let me illustrate this.

English is sharing the Gospel

in India who speak Hindi.

They can't understand the
speaker because he doesn't speak

their language-but God wants
them to hear the message of

the Gospel. The Holy Spirit
endows one of those Indians

gift of interpretation.

the recipient to understand

what is being spoken in English
even though he or she has never

Now some people have asked,
"Do the gift of tongues and the

ever work together?

There is no scriptural evidence
that the gift of tongues

or the gift of interpretation
ever working in concert.

However, the question is:

need for this to take place?"

When the gift of tongues is
given, the speaker is able to

that the only way the gifts

tongues to cause confusion among

this, he has managed to put

Many sincere Christians have
rejected all of the gifts of the

Spirit because of the
misuse of this one gift...

The next type of interpretation
is the natural interpretation

of tongues. The second type
of interpretation Paul speaks of

to the church at Corinth is
pertaining to a common language

someone has learned and is able
to translate into the language

of the hearer. This IS
NOT a gift of interpretation.

NOT the gift of interpretation.

It is a learned ability.
We are all familiar with this

type of interpretation
because we see it almost daily

in Christiandom and on secular
programming, bilingual people

Paul is addressing here.

On television we see Americans
who can't speak the language of

a country, preaching the Gospel
to the people in that country

and they are accompanied
by what we call a translator

who understands their English
language and then translates it

into the native
language of that country.

This is not the
gift of interpretation.

It doesn't matter how skilled
you are, it doesn't matter how

good you are at it, a gift
can't be earned or learned.

What this is, is a
learned ability by the person

doing the translating-although
a translator is someone who

actually converts written words,
it may help you to refer to this

rather than an interpreter.

Were the true gifts of
the Spirit ever used in the

Corinthian church? Well,
there's no reason to disbelieve

that all the gifts of the Spirit
were manifested at some time

in the church at Corinth.
That early church was zealous

for the manifestations of
the Holy Spirit and really

welcomed His presence.
There is no reason to believe

gifts of the Spirit

was often present because Paul

really explain the authentic.

past the mindset of producing

the error surrounding tongues.

First, the majority of tongues
heard in this present age

are truly unknown
languages unknown to everyone,

even God, and therefore do
not line up with scripture.

word unknown is not scripturally

The unknown tongue speakers

believe that they are speaking
in an "out-of-this-world" or

"angelic" language. The
scriptures used for these errors

are a paradox because they
are in the heart of Paul's first

error in the Corinthian church.

angels spoke without the use

other gift of the Spirit.

the gift was given to the church

so-call "angelic" languages.

Moreover, how could anyone
possibly know if their angelic

tongue was from God if
they can't even understand

what they are saying themselves?

aside every corrupt language

many historical instances of

the use of incoherent
tongues by non-Christians?

According to history, the
Oracle of Delphi began around

the 400 B.C. era when Greece
was the most impressive force

in the world. At the time
Paul wrote his first letter

to Corinth, the Oracle's
teachings were practiced openly

and were well known by
many in the Corinthian church.

They had to have been.
The members of Paul's church

at Corinth would have been very
familiar with how the Oracle

worked her
deception. The Oracle of Delphi

was a mystical shrine dedicated
to the Greek god Apollo.

This shrine had been built over
an old cave. Local shepherds

who got too close to the cave
opening, would go into a frenzy

and start speaking incoherently
after breathing the fumes

that were seeping from
the cavern. People would come

to seek the Oracle's advice.

Someone would ask the Oracle
a question, and she would inhale

in irrational tongues.

would write down the Oracle's

infiltrated the Corinthian

church and caused some of the
confusion Paul is addressing.

Well, what about this?
Did Paul say he spoke any

angelic languages? Some
have asked this question.

spoke in the tongues of men

angels? The answer is NO.
