and I were traveling,

there in the Puget Sound.

It was beautiful. And then
we took the land route North,

We were headed
over towards Spokane.

As we came up over the
mountains, you go up over the

mountains, and there's
some of those elevations,

Cascades, and it's green,

very green on the West side.

The rain comes and its
all dumped on the West side.

It was beautiful! All of a
sudden we came over one of the

ranges, and I looked and I said,
Oh, the trees are disappearing.

The green is disappearing.

And I would say that within
a matter of just a few miles,

it was not a long distance, the
entire landscape had changed.

It was flat as we got
farther towards Spokane,

but it was brown, much
less tree life, much less green,

lush vegetation;
totally different landscape.

Now, of course, they grow
a lot of crops over there.

There's a lot of irrigation.

water hit was green.

If people watered
their yards, that was green.

water, there was barrenness,

On Monday nights we go to visit
the girls in our local jail;

But the first Monday
night we noticed this girl.

And she showed up, and
beautiful girl, blonde hair.

I'd say she's nineteen.
Young, real young, pretty girl.

Every time we stood for prayer,
she had the same prayer request.

She would say, Please
pray for the Santos family.

Now I just made up their name.

Please pray for
the Santos family.

And she would cry.

Pray for the Santos family.

And then the next, and
we would pray for them.

The next Monday night,
or the next time we came in,

she had the same prayer: Please

Now its interesting, because
you might say, Why did she keep

asking for prayer
for the Santos family?

You see, this
precious girl, who was in jail,

she was in there, she had
been involved in a car accident.

She had been the driver.
00:07:21.97\00:07:23.34
She had hit Mrs. Santos,
and Mrs. Santos had died.
00:07:23.37\00:07:28.44
Now in addition to the fact that
there was this vehicle accident,

in addition to that
she had been doing drugs.
00:07:32.45\00:07:36.32
And there was drugs involved.
00:07:36.35\00:07:37.75
And so they had put her in jail.

She was awaiting her trial.

And so every single Monday
night, she had the same request:

pray for the Santos family.

Because they lost a
member of their family through

no fault of their own.

They were
walking through a desert,

through no fault of their own.

It was a desert because
of someone else's choice.

Your desert might be because
of someone else's choice.

Your desert might be
because of your own choosing.

Sometimes we treat other people,
say someone is snippy to me,

I could choose to react with
love, or if I react with anger,

with rage, with
revenge, with retaliation,

what's going to happen?

Probably they're
going to react back to me.

Now if I keep this
up, it might escalate.

Now what's the cause of that?

Well, they started it.

And that might be true.

But if I had reacted
differently, then their response

So sometimes when we
react to someone else,

creates a chain reaction,

desert of our own choosing.

Remember, he was a judge chosen

And in vain his parents said,
There's thousands, hundreds,

lots of girls here in Israel.

girl who loves Jehovah?

girl who wants to follow God?

He faced the desert of his own
choosing pretty soon when some

desert of past mistakes,

talking about today is the dew.

their back on God.

nothing to do with God.

And at the same time,
