the second part of verse 9.

made a spectacle to the world,

I was doing a woman's
retreat, and we took the women,

we were talking about
this concept of purity,

and how God wants to
recreate in us His purity.

We talked about making
no provision for the flesh.

And what were those
things in our homes that God

wants us to get rid of?

We had a
bonfire. We went outside.

They had a bonfire
there. It was by a lake.

And the women wrote
down on a scrap of paper...

Of course they're
not at their home.

They can't
physically get rid of stuff.

But they wrote down on a scrap
of paper a person, a thing,

or an emotion that God
was asking them to surrender,

that God was asking
them to give to Him.

Maybe they were in the midst of
an affair, and God was saying,

Break off that relationship.

They wrote that person's
name down on the scrap of paper.

Maybe they had an addiction
to soap operas like I did,

and God was
saying, Get rid of that TV.

Maybe it was some
other type of emotion.

Whatever it was, they wrote
it down, we tossed our scraps

of paper into the
bonfire, and then we sang,

All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give.

I will ever love and trust
Him, In His presence daily live.

Now there's nothing
obviously, radical about

throwing that in the fire.

It's symbolic. It
symbolizes giving that to Jesus,
