Welcome to Healthy Living, I'm your host Margot Marshall. 00:00:14.54\00:00:18.31 According to the Royal Australian College of 00:00:18.35\00:00:21.72 General Practitioners, there are two factors that determine 00:00:21.75\00:00:25.69 how long men live. 00:00:25.72\00:00:27.16 They say that genes account for 25%, but the other 75% 00:00:27.19\00:00:32.93 has to do with modifiable "risk factors", the things that 00:00:32.96\00:00:37.07 each man can do something about. 00:00:37.10\00:00:38.63 And today I'll be talking to a man who did do something 00:00:38.67\00:00:42.54 about his modifiable risk factors and reversed 00:00:42.57\00:00:46.14 his diabetes. Stay tuned. 00:00:46.17\00:00:48.54 Diabetes is recognized as the world's fastest growing 00:01:18.27\00:01:22.31 chronic condition. It caused 1.5 million deaths globally 00:01:22.34\00:01:27.65 in 2013. Half of the people who have diabetes don't realize 00:01:27.68\00:01:32.55 that they have it. And did you know the risk of a 00:01:32.59\00:01:36.56 heart attack for people with diabetes is the same as 00:01:36.59\00:01:40.16 someone who's already had a heart attack. 00:01:40.20\00:01:41.96 Accompanying our guest today who has reversed his diabetes 00:01:42.00\00:01:46.80 is his General Practitioner, Dr. Coralia Jigau. 00:01:46.84\00:01:50.34 Welcome to both of you, Dr. Jigau lovely to have you 00:01:50.37\00:01:53.61 with us. Thank you! And Alain, thank you for coming 00:01:53.64\00:01:55.51 and sharing your story and how it is that you've been able 00:01:55.54\00:01:59.58 to reverse your diabetes with those "modifiable risk factors." 00:01:59.61\00:02:03.85 You will have to tell us what they are and how well 00:02:03.89\00:02:06.76 that they worked for you. 00:02:06.79\00:02:08.12 Well it's a work in progress. Okay. 00:02:08.16\00:02:09.96 I don't know whether I am fully yet reversed completely 00:02:09.99\00:02:14.50 but it's an ongoing work in progress. 00:02:14.53\00:02:16.90 But certainly, I was diagnosed with diabetes nineteen years 00:02:16.93\00:02:21.60 ago. Wow. And as a nurse, a registered nurse, at that point 00:02:21.64\00:02:27.74 I felt my whole world was closing in. 00:02:27.78\00:02:30.58 Suddenly I was anticipation the worse and I was looking at 00:02:30.61\00:02:36.25 amputations and I was thinking of heart problems, 00:02:36.28\00:02:39.19 I was thinking of visions and all kind of the complications 00:02:39.22\00:02:43.12 that can come up with diabetes. I was thinking of the worst. 00:02:43.16\00:02:47.03 I was very very worried about it and very concerned 00:02:47.06\00:02:53.60 and I thought that is the end of me, for those of my life 00:02:53.64\00:02:57.24 now. I'm going to be on medications and eventually 00:02:57.27\00:03:00.18 insulin and that will be it. 00:03:00.21\00:03:02.74 Because my understanding and our general understanding 00:03:02.78\00:03:05.88 at that time, diabetes is a disease for life, you've got it 00:03:05.91\00:03:09.65 and that's it, there's nothing we can do about it. 00:03:09.68\00:03:11.25 But today we know better. Fortunately we know that it 00:03:11.29\00:03:16.09 is reversible, it is manageable and can be controlled very well 00:03:16.12\00:03:20.83 with a good lifestyle. As you mentioned the gene factor, 00:03:20.86\00:03:28.70 my dad had diabetes and I thought there's nothing 00:03:28.74\00:03:32.97 I can do about it, it's my gene, so I narrowed it and that's it, 00:03:33.01\00:03:37.05 I have to live with it. I will be on medication and eventually 00:03:37.08\00:03:40.88 will be on insulin. But fortunately with our 00:03:40.92\00:03:46.52 health message and we know that we can do something 00:03:46.55\00:03:49.86 about it. Tell us this health message...you refer to 00:03:49.89\00:03:52.49 a health message, what does that entail? 00:03:52.53\00:03:54.00 At first I started...I was first introduced with the CHIP 00:03:54.03\00:04:00.17 program. And what does that stand for? CHIP is not the 00:04:00.20\00:04:05.04 Potato Chip, [Laughter] The Complete Health Improvement 00:04:05.07\00:04:10.01 Program was... I was introduced to and that gave me a lot of 00:04:10.05\00:04:13.68 information and knowledge and powered to do something about 00:04:13.72\00:04:16.69 it. But unfortunately it was quite a few years down the track 00:04:16.72\00:04:20.36 after I had been on medication for quite a while. 00:04:20.39\00:04:24.23 Two years after my diagnosis of diabetes, 00:04:24.26\00:04:27.80 I had my first stent put in. So the damage is done 00:04:27.83\00:04:32.57 even now what we call pre- diabetic syndrome. 00:04:32.60\00:04:35.57 The pre-clinical syndrome there where no test will identify 00:04:35.60\00:04:41.18 you've got diabetes or confirm diabetes yet. 00:04:41.21\00:04:43.71 But it's there and the damage has been done in your body 00:04:43.75\00:04:46.75 and it's happening. We know not before the people are diagnosed 00:04:46.78\00:04:51.45 with diabetes its taking up to five years to progress to that 00:04:51.49\00:04:55.52 diabetes. So when they have glucose intolerance, 00:04:55.56\00:04:59.93 they already have 10%, they already have damage to their 00:04:59.96\00:05:04.60 retina and 50% damage to their kidneys. 00:05:04.63\00:05:09.04 Diabetes is a long progressing disease so before you diagnose 00:05:09.07\00:05:13.88 there is a lot of damage done. That's right. That's right. 00:05:13.91\00:05:16.11 And now this set of light, this knowledge there which we 00:05:16.14\00:05:23.65 twenty, thirty years ago we didn't know and I personally 00:05:23.69\00:05:28.59 thought there was nothing I could do about it. 00:05:28.62\00:05:30.79 Did you tell me about your lifestyle, about how you 00:05:30.83\00:05:35.83 used to have your tea because lifestyle is one contributed 00:05:35.86\00:05:39.87 diabetes is, most of diabetes is due to the lifestyle... 00:05:39.90\00:05:42.84 Type 2 diabetes I'm talking about and lifestyle will do it 00:05:42.87\00:05:47.94 and lifestyle will reverse it. Exactly. 00:05:47.98\00:05:49.94 Well you told me about your type of...Yeah, I'm originally 00:05:49.98\00:05:54.05 from Mauritius and we... That's a beautiful place, 00:05:54.08\00:05:57.42 I stayed at Mauritius briefly. Thank you, I think so. 00:05:57.45\00:05:59.75 And I love those beautiful... Oh what are those lilies? Oh my. 00:05:59.79\00:06:03.63 Beautiful flowers, anyway. Acres of them. 00:06:03.66\00:06:07.66 Acres and my dad actually brought some back home 00:06:07.70\00:06:10.73 and one of them was the size of a dinner plate. Oh yeah, yeah. 00:06:10.77\00:06:14.67 One of us for a long time was sugar, sugar cane was main 00:06:14.70\00:06:23.18 production and so we Mauritian love our sugar and my mom 00:06:23.21\00:06:32.05 used to make the tea for everybody in a big pot and 00:06:32.09\00:06:36.39 the sugar, the milk and every- thing is put in for everyone 00:06:36.42\00:06:40.06 so there's no such thing as how many sugars do you want or 00:06:40.10\00:06:42.20 you have one or two sugars for your...So when I left 00:06:42.23\00:06:45.90 and went to do my studies in England, I had no idea how 00:06:45.93\00:06:50.31 much sugar I needed in a cup of tea to make it to my liking. 00:06:50.34\00:06:53.78 And I discovered to make it to my taste, I needed to put 00:06:53.81\00:06:59.25 six teaspoonful of sugar...Ohh! My sister had a saying 00:06:59.28\00:07:04.29 when we were young, she said sugar is to sweeten... 00:07:04.32\00:07:07.52 I heard the story with your colleague...Well my first... 00:07:07.56\00:07:09.52 I didn't tell...Well she said sugar is to sweeten not to 00:07:09.56\00:07:12.26 thicken. My first time I was in the ward and that morning 00:07:12.29\00:07:18.43 on duty, I remember the night staff has made the tray of tea 00:07:18.47\00:07:24.24 for everyone and was going around saying, tea for you, yes 00:07:24.27\00:07:28.48 sugar, yes, white, whatever. It come my turn and she asked 00:07:28.51\00:07:33.48 me, how do you like your tea? And I say six please 00:07:33.52\00:07:37.59 and the whole choir of the staff is there in unison SIX? 00:07:37.62\00:07:42.22 and I was so embarrassed I didn't know where to hide. 00:07:42.26\00:07:47.33 So that peer pressure immediately reduced my intake 00:07:47.36\00:07:51.00 of sugar. I dropped from six to three. Three was the sort of... 00:07:51.03\00:07:55.94 It wouldn't raise too much of an eyebrow, 00:07:55.97\00:07:57.67 so people would accept that, tolerate that. So I was okay 00:07:57.71\00:08:02.18 with three, so I adapted to three. Until you met your... 00:08:02.21\00:08:06.48 Until I met my wife. My wife said not three's too much 00:08:06.51\00:08:09.78 and she dropped me down to two or one. 00:08:09.82\00:08:12.22 When she makes my cup of tea, it was one teaspoonful. 00:08:12.25\00:08:16.32 But later when I make it, I put two, but the moment 00:08:16.36\00:08:23.23 I was diagnosed, immediately the very same day 00:08:23.26\00:08:26.84 I cut out sugar. Okay. To 0. Isn't it interesting that it has 00:08:26.87\00:08:32.34 to take a wakeup call for us to do something and it's a shame. 00:08:32.37\00:08:36.08 It is unfortunate...It is a shame, just like doctor 00:08:36.11\00:08:37.65 was saying, the damage is taking place over years 00:08:37.68\00:08:41.28 and the damage is done by the time we get that diagnosis. 00:08:41.32\00:08:44.39 So I'm just hoping that people tuning in don't find it too 00:08:44.42\00:08:48.32 challenging or too hard to make some of the changes 00:08:48.36\00:08:51.46 that you are hearing about on these programs 00:08:51.49\00:08:53.29 because the silent damage is happening and I find the food 00:08:53.33\00:08:57.30 beautiful. I'm very much loving the beautiful fruits 00:08:57.33\00:09:01.57 and vege's and whole grains. That's right and we don't need 00:09:01.60\00:09:04.84 to have that amount sugar in our diet. 00:09:04.87\00:09:07.58 But the sugar in fruit is completely different. 00:09:07.61\00:09:10.71 That's right. You can have as much sugar because that sugar 00:09:10.75\00:09:14.35 is bound with fiber and do amazingly. 00:09:14.38\00:09:17.45 Plants...which keep it in control, it's not just 00:09:17.49\00:09:20.52 rising up straight when you eat it, comparing with the 00:09:20.56\00:09:24.09 sugar cane...Sugar Cane, its it's not supposed to be 00:09:24.13\00:09:29.30 consumed. Well it wouldn't matter if you did because you'd 00:09:29.33\00:09:32.60 have to eat a meter of it to get two teaspoons, you'd have a lot 00:09:32.63\00:09:36.67 of chewing. It would have to be refined, processed sugar. 00:09:36.71\00:09:39.31 So many years since his child hood, he was having challenges, 00:09:39.34\00:09:45.15 his blood sugar level was high and it was high... 00:09:45.18\00:09:47.62 Have you noticed something special about Alain? 00:09:47.65\00:09:51.15 He's not obese, most of the people who have diabetes 00:09:51.19\00:09:56.42 they're overweight or obese, he is not, but do you know 00:09:56.46\00:10:00.70 he has his family history... Father with the diabetes, 00:10:00.73\00:10:04.13 and this epigenetic change is with constant blood sugar 00:10:04.17\00:10:08.70 high blood sugar level. High blood sugar level is toxic, 00:10:08.74\00:10:12.64 it's toxic to the pancreas. We know it's one of the causes 00:10:12.67\00:10:17.51 why the pancreas cells are dying as well as high saturated 00:10:17.55\00:10:22.28 fat level. It's another cause of dying. So as you reverse this, 00:10:22.32\00:10:26.86 your body stopped for awhile and it starts repairing your 00:10:26.89\00:10:30.59 pancreas. That's fantastic. Isn't that an amazing thing, 00:10:30.63\00:10:34.23 this disease reversal starts with the organs and the cells 00:10:34.30\00:10:37.87 of the body are being renewed and they are being renewed 00:10:37.90\00:10:40.57 by the food that we eat. You hear the saying, 00:10:40.60\00:10:42.74 we are what we eat. We are, we literally are because 00:10:42.77\00:10:45.61 as we sit here, our body cells are being replaced 00:10:45.64\00:10:49.08 by what we had for our last meal and the ones before. 00:10:49.11\00:10:52.61 So think about that, what was it...Let that food be thy 00:10:52.65\00:10:56.79 medicine and medicine be thy food. We are what we eat 00:10:56.82\00:11:01.29 and our health and our life style will determine our health. 00:11:01.32\00:11:05.59 Usually they've done a study where they've taken a biopsy 00:11:05.63\00:11:09.26 from your fat and they tell you what type of fat you have eaten. 00:11:09.30\00:11:15.04 It is the official if it is there, yeah, it's fascinating. 00:11:15.07\00:11:19.14 Whatever animal or whatever it came from they can find. 00:11:19.17\00:11:22.58 Okay. It is interesting what the Bible says, leave the fat out. 00:11:22.61\00:11:27.65 Don't eat the fat. Fascinating, we do have a Bible text 00:11:27.68\00:11:30.72 which is telling us clearly, we should not eat fat, Leviticus 7 00:11:30.75\00:11:36.29 I think. That's right, leave fat alone. It says "Do not eat fat" 00:11:36.32\00:11:38.56 of hogs and do not eat blood... All meat has blood in it. 00:11:38.59\00:11:44.13 And we do not consider eating fat, when you eat meat, 00:11:44.17\00:11:48.04 you have fat as well as blood. Because it's all through it, 00:11:48.07\00:11:50.81 it's not just the external. But that advice that the good 00:11:50.84\00:11:55.38 Lord gave to our first parents is standing a very very good 00:11:55.41\00:11:58.91 stand, you basically write that right at the beginning. 00:11:58.95\00:12:02.68 He told us what to eat and it was all those beautiful 00:12:02.72\00:12:05.29 plant foods that He created in abundance. 00:12:05.32\00:12:07.76 And now the World Health Organization is seeing the light 00:12:07.79\00:12:12.06 on that and I was looking on their website and came across 00:12:12.09\00:12:15.83 the Healthy Diet Fact Sheet number 394 if anyone wants to 00:12:15.86\00:12:20.37 look that up an it lists them there. There we go 00:12:20.40\00:12:23.77 and there it is from the World Health Organization. 00:12:29.51\00:12:31.81 So it's very up to date, but its ancient, it was there from 00:12:31.85\00:12:37.09 the beginning and when people eat like that, they get all the 00:12:37.12\00:12:41.26 beautiful benefits and when they don't eat like that, 00:12:41.29\00:12:43.09 and when they begin too, they can get some recovery. 00:12:43.12\00:12:46.80 I'm glad that you've been able to do that. 00:12:46.83\00:12:48.93 It looks like we are going full circle and come back to 00:12:48.96\00:12:51.97 where we started from Eden. We thought development, 00:12:52.00\00:12:55.87 and everything, we had all this processed food and 00:12:55.90\00:12:58.51 we make life easier, and it would make life more comfortable 00:12:58.54\00:13:01.21 for us and we find that they are not, they are making 00:13:01.24\00:13:04.05 our life more complicated and bring us more complication 00:13:04.08\00:13:07.58 disease and all kind of things. And now we are going back to 00:13:07.62\00:13:10.65 full circle back to Eden like diet, that plant based diet is 00:13:10.69\00:13:16.62 the way to go. The plant based diet is the healthy one. 00:13:16.66\00:13:19.56 Most of the foods in the super market weren't there 00:13:19.59\00:13:22.76 a few decades ago. They made more and more and more 00:13:22.80\00:13:26.17 and they are not brand new kinds of fruit and vegetables, 00:13:26.20\00:13:28.80 they're just things that they have done more and more to. 00:13:28.84\00:13:31.67 They have taken out a lot of the good stuff 00:13:31.71\00:13:33.44 and a lot of things with numbers on that we don't know too 00:13:33.48\00:13:36.54 much about usually and it's not at all helpful. 00:13:36.58\00:13:40.65 And actually the foods that have been interfered with 00:13:40.68\00:13:44.89 this way and I'm not just talking genetically engineered, 00:13:44.92\00:13:46.79 I'm talking about the highly processed where they are 00:13:46.82\00:13:49.46 stripped of their goodness and added things in that are not 00:13:49.49\00:13:52.89 so good. Usually fat, sugar and salt, plus others. 00:13:52.93\00:13:55.33 That's what is really doing most of the damage and 00:13:55.36\00:13:59.07 certainly the animal products are not good either. 00:13:59.10\00:14:01.67 It is just the lack of plants pollination because of being 00:14:01.70\00:14:04.74 designed to eat them and we just discovered now thousands 00:14:04.77\00:14:09.48 of substances in the leaf of spinach, which we don't know 00:14:09.51\00:14:13.45 how they are working. We do not know but they are needed 00:14:13.48\00:14:16.65 for our body and the latest research in gut, it's showing 00:14:16.69\00:14:21.89 we have in our intestine gut...we have receptors of 00:14:21.92\00:14:29.06 plant polyphenols. We discovered until now 28 receptors 00:14:29.10\00:14:34.40 from plants which are there in the gut. 00:14:34.44\00:14:37.07 We have in our gut receptors from bitterness, 26 of them. 00:14:37.11\00:14:44.35 We don't know what they are doing there but we have 26 of 00:14:44.38\00:14:47.82 receptors for bitterness in our gut without knowing what 00:14:47.85\00:14:51.49 they are doing there. So the science is progressing and so 00:14:51.52\00:14:54.36 we starting discovery. It's like opening your eyes, WOW! 00:14:54.39\00:14:58.09 What are these doing there? Definitely the bitter receptors 00:14:58.13\00:15:01.26 they are doing something. We do have receptors from sweets, 00:15:01.30\00:15:03.73 not only in our mouth as we expected it...Yeah, what was 00:15:03.77\00:15:08.40 the most fascinating, we have receptors from smell. 00:15:08.44\00:15:13.27 Of stomach receptors, we have it in our gut. 00:15:13.31\00:15:17.25 So what are they doing there? We don't know the public? 00:15:17.28\00:15:21.88 science will find out. So its fascinating when we eat 00:15:21.92\00:15:25.69 on God's formula, that's what my patient asks, why do you 00:15:25.72\00:15:31.49 change, I said this is God's formula and God's formula 00:15:31.53\00:15:34.50 is the best formula in which you ever had. 00:15:34.53\00:15:36.67 And those phytochemicals, there in every single plant food 00:15:36.70\00:15:44.01 has phytochemicals, every single plant food. 00:15:44.04\00:15:47.84 And there's thousands of them and they work like an orchestra 00:15:47.88\00:15:51.58 and if you want them to play beautiful music, 00:15:51.61\00:15:53.82 we need to have all of the members of the orchestra there, 00:15:53.85\00:15:56.08 and not stripped out and not for the magic bullet. 00:15:56.12\00:15:59.15 Because they just work together in ways that we don't 00:15:59.19\00:16:03.46 understand. I'll just tell you this if I may because it's a 00:16:03.49\00:16:06.63 good illustration. Some years ago I went to hear the Messiah 00:16:06.66\00:16:09.56 at a church in a country town and they had a small choir 00:16:09.60\00:16:14.34 and do you know, they only had four instruments. 00:16:14.37\00:16:16.67 Oh my goodness. I was wishing I wasn't there because it had 00:16:16.71\00:16:22.18 a harpsicord and a violin and a trumpet and I just can't 00:16:22.21\00:16:25.55 remember what the other one was. You cannot play an orchestra 00:16:25.58\00:16:29.68 piece with those few instruments and not only that, 00:16:29.72\00:16:33.19 but sometimes a couple of them weren't needed. 00:16:33.22\00:16:35.42 It was just not a nice experience. 00:16:35.46\00:16:38.29 But this is an illustration of what it's like, the 00:16:38.33\00:16:41.66 phytochemicals, there are thousands of them they have 00:16:41.70\00:16:44.20 discovered. They work together in ways that we don't know 00:16:44.23\00:16:46.70 and probably never will but they do it all by themselves. 00:16:46.74\00:16:50.07 Yeah. So whole foods are really really good... 00:16:50.11\00:16:54.38 I think this is, this is also the problem when we get sick 00:16:54.41\00:16:58.11 we get diabetes, we say, okay it's a blood sugar issue 00:16:58.15\00:17:01.55 and we try to address just the blood issue, blood sugar level, 00:17:01.58\00:17:05.05 but we neglect other areas which is a whole complete issue. 00:17:05.09\00:17:12.26 We're looking so simplistically through these and I remember 00:17:12.29\00:17:16.03 it was about 12 years ago and I went to a medical conference 00:17:16.06\00:17:20.34 and they're talking about the implications of kidney and 00:17:20.37\00:17:23.47 diabetes and I said what? So diabetes has to do with 00:17:23.51\00:17:26.21 with the blood sugar and the liver and with the muscle and 00:17:26.24\00:17:29.14 with the pancreas. No, no, no. 00:17:29.18\00:17:31.88 When you have diabetes actually your kidney instead of excreting 00:17:31.91\00:17:37.49 enough, it is keeping much more glucose inside of your body. 00:17:37.52\00:17:43.06 You don't need this, you need to...you have already too much 00:17:43.09\00:17:46.36 so kidney is damaged, your intestine is damaged, 00:17:46.39\00:17:49.10 some hormones there which are supposed to keep the blood from 00:17:49.13\00:17:52.27 control. Your brain is not working up, in the liver the 00:17:52.30\00:17:55.44 main player in the pancreas is the liver and it affects 00:17:55.47\00:18:00.91 the liver...when you have an affected liver, 00:18:00.94\00:18:02.81 that liver cannot work properly and it is destroying the 00:18:02.84\00:18:06.72 pancreas. So most of the people who have diabetes 00:18:06.75\00:18:10.09 they have fatty liver, liver cirrhosis. As you fix the 00:18:10.12\00:18:17.19 problem, your diabetes will fix and how do you fix a 00:18:17.23\00:18:19.96 fatty liver? With a diet and with exercise. 00:18:20.00\00:18:22.76 But what was interesting with you, it was because you had in 00:18:22.80\00:18:26.13 2004, your first stent, you did not...at that stage 00:18:26.17\00:18:31.54 you were not fully aware of the dangers or fully aware 00:18:31.57\00:18:34.98 you had to do something, you can't control...it's not 00:18:35.01\00:18:38.05 happening again. And it happened a second time in 2008 00:18:38.08\00:18:41.55 when you had your second stent when your eyes were opened. 00:18:41.58\00:18:45.05 After that you came and saw me. That's right, that's correct. 00:18:45.09\00:18:48.19 Yeah, and it shows that even as a health practitioner, 00:18:48.22\00:18:54.10 our knowledge was so limited. I thought I was doing the 00:18:54.13\00:18:58.47 right thing but I cut out the sugar and I thought that would 00:18:58.50\00:19:02.07 do it. Cut out the sugar, but now we understand, 00:19:02.10\00:19:05.87 it's not just the sugar, carbohydrates and fat 00:19:05.91\00:19:09.48 and all kind of exercise. The fiber needed... 00:19:09.51\00:19:12.95 Yeah, when you took out the carbohydrates, 00:19:12.98\00:19:14.88 you are talking about the refined ones, not the whole 00:19:14.92\00:19:17.19 whole grains and that sort... That's right, that's right. 00:19:17.22\00:19:19.62 The refined carb...the white stuff and the rice and pasta 00:19:19.65\00:19:24.53 and things like that. What did you find recently? 00:19:24.56\00:19:29.66 You told me you have seen some- body regarding micronutrients 00:19:29.70\00:19:35.24 because we know in diabetes there is a big deficiency of 00:19:35.27\00:19:38.07 micronutrients especially Chromium, vanadium and maganese 00:19:38.11\00:19:41.41 what have you done about this? 00:19:41.44\00:19:43.08 The magnesium...You told me... Yeah. Well I found that we eat, 00:19:43.11\00:19:51.85 we eat a lot of stuff that are deficient like Dr. Coralia was 00:19:51.89\00:19:57.99 talking about, she now has the ability to check and 00:19:58.03\00:20:02.23 blood tests and find the deficiencies in different areas 00:20:02.26\00:20:05.80 in our vitamins and micro- nutrients deficiency and able to 00:20:05.83\00:20:09.10 adjust these. Is that what you are talking about, 00:20:09.14\00:20:12.11 is that what you are saying? Yes, I said you start taking 00:20:12.14\00:20:14.48 micronutrients from your son and you find out you are 00:20:14.51\00:20:19.01 getting better. Uh, I started using and when first looking 00:20:19.05\00:20:24.95 at this and I started reading more about micronutrients 00:20:24.99\00:20:27.52 and how it affects blood sugar and I discovered Chromium 00:20:27.56\00:20:31.29 for example was one, very important ingredient was missing 00:20:31.33\00:20:35.86 in our diet and we don't have enough in our diet and that 00:20:35.90\00:20:40.47 interferes with the blood sugar metabolism, or blood sugar. 00:20:40.50\00:20:44.64 Yeah, but God did not design us to take tablets and... 00:20:44.67\00:20:49.71 He designed us to eat our greens, these micronutrients 00:20:49.74\00:20:52.98 are in tiny amounts in our food, in our greens 00:20:53.01\00:20:57.52 so again, we go to the design. If we eat according to the 00:20:57.55\00:21:01.09 design, our body will heal, we'll have the substance to 00:21:01.12\00:21:05.73 be able to healing to help him. 00:21:05.76\00:21:08.36 These micronutrients are available freely to us. 00:21:08.40\00:21:12.57 That's right. They are available freely if only we tap into them 00:21:12.60\00:21:17.41 and absorb them and let our body do the job, 00:21:17.44\00:21:20.04 do the processing of it. Yeah so you've been enjoying 00:21:20.08\00:21:24.01 you whole food plant based diet? Very much so. 00:21:24.05\00:21:28.18 When I was introduced into the CHIP Program years back 00:21:28.22\00:21:31.25 and embraced that more holistically because I was not 00:21:31.29\00:21:34.92 on a plant based as such at all until recently only and then 00:21:34.96\00:21:41.56 I have felt the difference and the difference has been 00:21:41.60\00:21:45.20 enormous in my health, in my blood sugar and my whole health 00:21:45.23\00:21:50.07 approach. It's not just one specific area on me. 00:21:50.11\00:21:53.61 You know when...I think in some our my previous friends 00:21:53.64\00:21:58.61 sharing how we can see a whole changes in many facet of our 00:21:58.65\00:22:04.89 life when our health is addressed properly. 00:22:04.92\00:22:08.76 That's right and we've been noticing as we've talked to the 00:22:08.79\00:22:11.09 different patients that you've brought with you for this 00:22:11.13\00:22:12.96 little series Dr. Jigau. What works for you with your 00:22:12.99\00:22:18.27 diabetes and heart is working for someone else for their 00:22:18.30\00:22:20.54 kidneys and with their liver and it's one size fits all 00:22:20.57\00:22:24.21 basically. That diet that the good Lord gave to our first 00:22:24.24\00:22:27.51 parent works for our whole body, our mind, everything. 00:22:27.54\00:22:31.08 Did you know you said our body is 25 hour genes and 75 the 00:22:31.11\00:22:36.05 environment and what is actually the environment? 00:22:36.08\00:22:39.42 It's the food that you eat, it's the water that you drink, 00:22:39.45\00:22:42.62 it's if you see your sun, if you stay in the sun or not. 00:22:42.66\00:22:47.23 If you exercise or not, the amount of stress which you 00:22:47.26\00:22:50.30 have, so all of these are lifestyle. That's right. 00:22:50.33\00:22:54.97 All of these we have the power to address so we cannot address, 00:22:55.00\00:23:00.78 you have a gene is not which is making your predisposition 00:23:00.81\00:23:05.75 for diseases is not a death sentence because that gene 00:23:05.78\00:23:08.78 can stay there without being activated. But if you'll work 00:23:08.82\00:23:12.35 and you'll have the same life- style like your parents had, 00:23:12.39\00:23:15.72 definitely that gene will be activated and it will cause 00:23:15.76\00:23:18.19 the same problem which we have. While if you change the 00:23:18.23\00:23:21.03 lifestyle properly, that will not be expressed in 00:23:21.06\00:23:24.93 your system. And that's an important thing because... 00:23:24.97\00:23:27.60 you know we talk about the genetics but it's like little 00:23:27.64\00:23:30.71 switches and they can be switched on and off by what 00:23:30.74\00:23:33.78 we ate, so it's just amazing. I think it was Dr. Del... 00:23:33.81\00:23:37.45 who said, the gene is like a loaded gun and somebody has to 00:23:37.48\00:23:42.75 pull the trigger. Lifestyle pulls the trigger. That's right. 00:23:42.78\00:23:45.92 Yes. That was what he said, I remember that and it's true, 00:23:45.95\00:23:49.09 it's true. You know how the food is working now... 00:23:49.12\00:23:52.13 These micronutrients which we need to have, they're acting 00:23:52.16\00:23:56.80 on the nucleus and our nucleus is doing a certain protein 00:23:56.83\00:24:01.47 which is called NLF2 and its going...this is triggering 00:24:01.50\00:24:08.21 a 400 genes of repair or you can do in the same way... 00:24:08.24\00:24:13.95 Another substance which will trigger your nucleus 400 genes 00:24:13.98\00:24:19.95 of causing inflammation in your body. So it is working 00:24:19.99\00:24:23.63 not as a simplistic, it's in one line, its working as a whole. 00:24:23.66\00:24:29.33 Yeah, genes of repair, that's a lovely thing to know about 00:24:29.36\00:24:31.83 isn't it. Food is medicine we now know, exercise is medicine. 00:24:31.87\00:24:36.77 Yeah. Sunlight is definitely medicine. Water is medicine. 00:24:36.81\00:24:42.11 Because water activated genes... If you eat too much salt 00:24:42.14\00:24:46.78 in the case of high blood pressure, there are a lot of 00:24:46.82\00:24:50.75 genes which are activated by excess salt. 00:24:50.79\00:24:52.85 If you stop your excess salt, that genes will be turned off 00:24:52.89\00:24:56.46 again, they will be dormant, so you do not touch. 00:24:56.49\00:24:59.69 So everything in the body is acting on genes. 00:24:59.73\00:25:03.63 And it's influenced by how we live. 00:25:03.67\00:25:08.20 I remember the U.S. Surgeon General, he talked about 00:25:08.24\00:25:12.37 lifestyle as whether we... what we eat and drink, 00:25:12.41\00:25:17.68 whether we smoke and exercise and the last one actually... 00:25:17.71\00:25:22.12 I was surprised actually, the last one was how we love. 00:25:22.15\00:25:25.79 Yeah. Very interesting, our relationships are very important 00:25:25.82\00:25:29.59 too. And if I may say this and I say it genuinely, 00:25:29.62\00:25:32.73 I've heard from one of your patients that your manner 00:25:32.76\00:25:37.73 and your care and concern and your compassion 00:25:37.77\00:25:42.60 has been a big part in helping them on their journey to change 00:25:42.64\00:25:47.08 their lifestyle, which is a big thing to do. 00:25:47.11\00:25:48.98 And so I think that is a beautiful thing to find in any 00:25:49.01\00:25:53.55 medical practioner. Someone who you can tell genuinely cares 00:25:53.58\00:25:57.19 about you and is there to support you through this change 00:25:57.22\00:26:01.82 and cares about your outcome. Love is a healer. Yes. 00:26:01.86\00:26:06.46 And if you go deep, we under- stand exactly how. 00:26:06.49\00:26:09.66 That's right. Because if you don't have love, you're having 00:26:09.70\00:26:11.87 anxiety and fear which is triggering all the cortisone 00:26:11.90\00:26:15.10 and your cortisone problem in the body and its doing 00:26:15.14\00:26:18.37 anxiety and fear and stress and every cell in your body 00:26:18.41\00:26:24.25 will feel when your cortisone level is high. 00:26:24.28\00:26:27.02 The love, when you have it there, it's settling, 00:26:27.05\00:26:30.82 everything is settling in the body, the body's supposed to 00:26:30.85\00:26:33.92 work properly. It's actually stress management. 00:26:33.96\00:26:36.22 Yeah, and God is love, that's His definition, He is love. 00:26:36.26\00:26:42.26 And also I read somewhere, it's beautiful...The creative energy 00:26:42.30\00:26:46.74 brought the worlds into existence as in His Word 00:26:46.77\00:26:49.77 in the Bible. And when we read it, His very life becomes 00:26:49.80\00:26:54.84 part of us, that essence of love. So it's a beautiful thing 00:26:54.88\00:26:58.88 and I would really encourage you if you haven't added this 00:26:58.91\00:27:02.08 to your list of lifestyle things to actually connect 00:27:02.12\00:27:06.72 with the One who created you. It's an incredibly healthy thing 00:27:06.76\00:27:10.43 and it even says, I'm the Lord who heals you. 00:27:10.46\00:27:14.20 So it's a very important element to actually include our Creator 00:27:14.23\00:27:18.70 as part of our lives, as part of our thinking and gratitude 00:27:18.73\00:27:23.07 to Him, because that plays a huge role in the healing. 00:27:23.10\00:27:26.41 Yeah, you have somebody to trust. Yes. You don't have to 00:27:26.44\00:27:32.11 rely on yourself, you have somebody who knows and is in 00:27:32.15\00:27:35.05 absolute control of everything what happens instead of 00:27:35.08\00:27:37.82 stressing what will be tomorrow, you leave your burden 00:27:37.85\00:27:40.59 there. That's right, beautiful things... 00:27:40.62\00:27:42.89 It's a three dimensional is, our health is the physical, 00:27:42.92\00:27:46.19 the emotional and the spiritual, it's all formed 00:27:46.23\00:27:51.40 together. There's been more that 1200 studies in the last 00:27:51.43\00:27:54.90 hundred years on the relation- ship between spirituality and 00:27:54.94\00:27:58.21 health and one person who... Yeah, just an amazing thing... 00:27:58.24\00:28:04.88 We need to actually close here now and I just want to close 00:28:04.91\00:28:07.82 by saying that health is very precious and so I really 00:28:07.85\00:28:12.22 encourage you to think of one thing that you can do today 00:28:12.25\00:28:16.16 to help you to live life to the full. 00:28:16.19\00:28:18.43 Be sure to tune into our future programs to discover how to 00:28:18.46\00:28:22.40 prevent and reverse other diseases. 00:28:22.43\00:28:24.77 You can watch our program on demand at 3abnaustralia.org.au 00:28:24.80\00:28:30.77 just click on the Watch Button and may God bless you 00:28:30.81\00:28:33.51 and bless your efforts. 00:28:33.54\00:28:35.04
