Welcome to Healthy Living, I'm your host Marot Marshall. 00:00:15.54\00:00:18.98 Kidney failure used to be a death sentence until the advent 00:00:19.01\00:00:24.29 of dialysis and kidney transplants, 00:00:24.32\00:00:26.55 but is there another option? Can failing kidneys become 00:00:26.59\00:00:31.36 healthy again? Even at the age of 89? Stay tuned. 00:00:31.39\00:00:36.87 The gentleman who in now a healthy 92 year old 00:01:06.23\00:01:10.20 didn't travel didn't travel into state to be with us today, 00:01:10.23\00:01:12.90 but here to tell us about his remarkable recovery is 00:01:12.93\00:01:17.01 his daughter, Chi-Won and his General Practioner 00:01:17.04\00:01:20.48 Dr. Coralia Jigau, who practices Lifestyle Medicine. 00:01:20.51\00:01:24.78 Welcome to both of you, it's lovely to have you here 00:01:24.81\00:01:27.72 Dr. Coralia and Chi-Won. Thank you. 00:01:27.75\00:01:30.72 Tell us just in a nutshell what is Lifestyle Medicine. 00:01:30.75\00:01:35.19 Lifestyle Medicine is an evidence based medicine 00:01:35.22\00:01:40.63 which we started to realize recently how important it is 00:01:40.66\00:01:44.87 for our health. There's a lot of research showing your lifestyle 00:01:44.90\00:01:50.04 counts the most in your health or in your disease. 00:01:50.07\00:01:54.44 It accounts more than what a doctor can prescribe 00:01:54.48\00:01:56.98 in medicines. Yes. That's, that's, that's. Thank you for 00:01:57.01\00:02:01.45 that. Now Chi-Won, you had some health concerns, tell us about 00:02:01.48\00:02:06.45 those. For myself? Yes, just for yourself...Well we're really 00:02:06.49\00:02:10.36 talking about your dad. Maybe we'll start with your dad 00:02:10.39\00:02:13.09 I think. Because he was the one who had that amazing 00:02:13.13\00:02:16.83 turnaround. Yes. So my father had had a history of diabetes 00:02:16.87\00:02:22.70 and hypertension, (high blood Pressure) and he's had it for 00:02:22.74\00:02:28.14 quite some time. So he was on normal medication, if you like. 00:02:28.18\00:02:34.58 The usual medication but there came a point in time when 00:02:34.62\00:02:38.79 he was 89 that the tests showed that his kidneys were 00:02:38.82\00:02:45.73 functioning at 14, so his EGFR was 14. Now I don't know what 00:02:45.76\00:02:52.93 that is. Right. So tell us about EGFR at 14. 00:02:52.97\00:02:56.91 Her father was end stage kidney failure. 00:02:56.94\00:03:01.31 Kidney failure has four stages. After the age of 65 in USA 00:03:01.34\00:03:08.08 one in three adult they have chronic kidney failure. 00:03:08.12\00:03:12.59 Acute kidney failure is a different matter. 00:03:12.62\00:03:15.22 So we study...It was at the point where you have to have 00:03:15.26\00:03:19.43 dialysis to survive. Yes. That's when he came to me. 00:03:19.46\00:03:22.93 Yes. So what was interesting was that exactly 12 months 00:03:22.96\00:03:28.57 before that his kidneys were functioning at 31 and at 31 00:03:28.60\00:03:35.41 at that age is considered not a bad number at all. 00:03:35.44\00:03:40.02 But six months after that when he had his regular blood tests 00:03:40.05\00:03:44.52 again, it had dropped to 20, and then six months after that 00:03:44.55\00:03:49.46 it had dropped to 14. So within a space of 12 months, 00:03:49.49\00:03:53.76 it had gone from 31 to 14 and he was considering traveling 00:03:53.80\00:04:01.60 in a couple of months overseas. His specialist suggest that he 00:04:01.64\00:04:06.94 go and see a renal...a kidney specialist before that 00:04:06.98\00:04:11.31 and ordering my father up... and my father himself is 00:04:11.35\00:04:15.52 a medical doctor and that he knew exactly what those results 00:04:15.55\00:04:20.32 meant. And what did they mean? What do results like that mean? 00:04:20.36\00:04:24.49 It means that the kidneys are very important for the organ, 00:04:24.53\00:04:28.66 they have to do a lot of detoxification in the?, 00:04:28.73\00:04:31.03 It has to do with the acidity in the body. I has to do with 00:04:31.07\00:04:35.67 diabetes in the body. Kidneys have an important organ diabetes 00:04:35.70\00:04:39.21 two and as your father had diabetes for 30 years, 00:04:39.24\00:04:43.18 it was a long impact and multiple problems which his 00:04:43.21\00:04:47.22 kidneys have. The problem is he did not expect to get a little 00:04:47.25\00:04:53.05 bit better and he did not believe in it and actually 00:04:53.09\00:04:55.72 Chi-Won was dragging him into my clinic. I believe it took you 00:04:55.76\00:04:59.89 three years to get him to come and see Dr. Coralia, 00:04:59.93\00:05:03.06 was the right? That's correct... Three years he resisted...Yeah. 00:05:03.10\00:05:07.60 Because that's how long it took, You know I had been well 00:05:07.64\00:05:11.87 through lifestyle change myself and through a diet and so 00:05:11.91\00:05:16.48 during that period of three years I was singing the praises 00:05:16.51\00:05:20.02 of this kind of living and medicine... 00:05:20.05\00:05:22.95 But because daddy's a doctor himself, he said I've never 00:05:22.98\00:05:26.79 heard of things like that, we we're not taught that sort of 00:05:26.82\00:05:28.86 thing at medical school so that cannot be true. 00:05:28.89\00:05:32.49 He also said that it's well know in the medical world 00:05:32.53\00:05:36.10 that with kidneys it's a one way direction. 00:05:36.13\00:05:40.17 There is no such thing as reversal of kidneys and it 00:05:40.20\00:05:44.07 cannot get better and we couldn't get him an appointment 00:05:44.11\00:05:49.28 for him to see a renal specialist straight away 00:05:49.31\00:05:52.61 so I said come and see Dr. Jigau my doctor and 00:05:52.65\00:05:58.72 I think he didn't want to go on dialysis, he knew that. 00:05:58.75\00:06:02.29 He knew what that meant every two or three times a week 00:06:02.32\00:06:07.33 he had to spend about 4 or 5 hours attached to this machine 00:06:07.36\00:06:12.97 that's cleaning out your blood. He said that's no way to live. 00:06:13.00\00:06:16.91 So for the first time he agreed to go and meet Coralia 00:06:16.94\00:06:21.34 but with a great deal of skepticism and he didn't think 00:06:21.38\00:06:27.12 that anything could be done... I just remember his face... 00:06:27.15\00:06:34.92 You do? I know how it was, he was so...and I insist on him, 00:06:34.96\00:06:39.39 could you please try to do this change in your lifestyle 00:06:39.43\00:06:44.47 just for 10 days? Please walk a beat, go for 10 days on a 00:06:44.50\00:06:49.14 plant based diet. I said look, we have your results now 00:06:49.17\00:06:52.31 and in another 10 days we'll have your blood test 00:06:52.34\00:06:54.94 and we'll see what is going on from there. 00:06:54.98\00:06:57.15 I remember what he said right after that, he had me to that... 00:06:57.18\00:07:02.78 You know the reason why he agreed to do it, was to prove 00:07:02.82\00:07:06.86 Coralia wrong. Oh! [Laughter] Right he said, I don't think 00:07:06.89\00:07:11.99 she knows what she's talking about because the whole world 00:07:12.03\00:07:15.36 knows that it cannot be done and in 10 days... 00:07:15.40\00:07:18.47 So he agreed to do this, but he was actually extremely 00:07:18.50\00:07:22.80 disciplined, so the minute we walked out of there, 00:07:22.84\00:07:25.91 went and did the blood test and in 10 days' time, 00:07:25.94\00:07:29.41 his EGFR jumped up from 14 to 19. I couldn't believe myself 00:07:29.44\00:07:34.72 because I've never had a patient like that, 00:07:34.75\00:07:36.55 especially at this age. I was impressed, I said Wow! 00:07:36.58\00:07:41.86 this is working. So from 14 to 19 in 10 days is something 00:07:41.89\00:07:45.29 that even shocked you. Cause that might not have a lot of 00:07:45.33\00:07:48.13 meaning to people like me because I don't know about it. 00:07:48.16\00:07:49.50 Yes, let's have another month. But during that time, 00:07:49.53\00:07:54.94 it was immediately after we got that new result, right? 00:07:54.97\00:07:58.61 Of EGFR being 18- 19 which is such good news, his appointment 00:07:58.64\00:08:04.61 with the renal specialist had come up and this specialist 00:08:04.65\00:08:09.65 wanted a blood test done too and it showed 18. 00:08:09.68\00:08:14.82 So my father said oh, so it wasn't an error then. 00:08:14.86\00:08:20.56 Right. So he didn't even believe the lab results. 00:08:20.60\00:08:23.97 He felt that he was feeling much better because he was 00:08:24.00\00:08:27.07 feeling so tired and lethargic and all of this. So in ten days 00:08:27.10\00:08:31.21 he was feeling better and he asked the specialist, 00:08:31.24\00:08:33.71 he said look, it's improved. You can see it was 14, 00:08:33.74\00:08:37.31 ten days ago and it's 18 now and his specialist said, 00:08:37.35\00:08:42.12 maybe you were very dehydrated when you had your first 00:08:42.15\00:08:46.89 blood test done and that probably explains it. 00:08:46.92\00:08:51.29 My father said I'm starting a new diet now, I'm going to 00:08:51.33\00:08:58.13 have my diet changed to whole food plant based vegan 00:08:58.17\00:09:03.47 and the specialist said, well, that might not hurt 00:09:03.51\00:09:08.14 but you know...Pretty much he wasn't very convinced. 00:09:08.18\00:09:14.18 So he did another blood test two months after the first one 00:09:14.22\00:09:19.35 and it had gone up. His GFR was twenty four. 00:09:19.39\00:09:23.32 Twenty four, so from 14...19... Twenty four. To Twenty four 00:09:23.36\00:09:28.66 and that, tell us...Meanwhile, this means that you can live 00:09:28.70\00:09:36.07 normally without needing to have dialysis. Yes. 00:09:36.10\00:09:39.37 Which at this age, it is extraordinary. 00:09:39.41\00:09:41.64 But in the meantime he was taking a blood pressure tablet 00:09:41.68\00:09:44.98 and he said Coralia, you didn't tell me my blood pressure 00:09:45.01\00:09:48.92 would get better when I'm going on this. 00:09:48.95\00:09:51.09 Because he used to have Avapro 300 mg which is a 00:09:51.12\00:09:54.32 blood pressure tablet and we cut it down to 155, 150 mg. 00:09:54.36\00:10:00.73 and we cut it to half. So we took half for a while and now 00:10:00.76\00:10:04.53 we are on 75 only. Yes, and the reason why, what surprised him 00:10:04.57\00:10:09.97 was, you know our focus was so much on trying to get him... 00:10:10.01\00:10:12.17 his kidneys in order...But of course this whole change in his 00:10:12.21\00:10:18.15 lifestyle and his diet resulted in having a huge impact on 00:10:18.18\00:10:22.48 his diabetes and his hypertension. 00:10:22.52\00:10:25.02 So what happened was, my father was on these huge doses of 00:10:25.05\00:10:29.96 high blood pressure tablets... He was starting to feel very 00:10:29.99\00:10:35.20 giddy and dizzy and he said, oh my gosh, what's going on? 00:10:35.23\00:10:39.37 So when I rang Coralia, Coralia said, he has to cut down 00:10:39.40\00:10:43.61 on his blood pressure tablets... the level and my father had 00:10:43.64\00:10:47.94 refused you see because he was so nervous...He said do you know 00:10:47.98\00:10:51.21 what my blood pressure is like? If I cut it down, I may not 00:10:51.25\00:10:55.98 make it. So he then cut that down and the following effect... 00:10:56.02\00:11:02.29 and his diabetes was great wasn't it? 00:11:02.32\00:11:04.66 Yeah and after that he have to give up his insulin, 00:11:04.69\00:11:06.93 we cut down gradually his insulin, so we have taken 00:11:06.96\00:11:09.33 his insulin. All of that, so ultimately he took 31, he's 00:11:09.36\00:11:12.73 EGFR went up to 31...So that's what it is now? Yes. 00:11:12.77\00:11:18.71 At the age of 92. At the age of 92...That seems like this is 00:11:18.74\00:11:22.38 three years later? Yeah. Now three years later? Yes. 00:11:22.41\00:11:26.95 That's correct. And he's really well. He is so well... 00:11:26.98\00:11:31.55 He's walking now. And he goes around...Yes. So he's... 00:11:31.59\00:11:35.22 It wasn't just his diet, now he's doing all the walking 00:11:35.26\00:11:40.13 and his exercises and his... so he's focusing on both 00:11:40.16\00:11:44.13 and he's being very very very good. So it's the nuts... 00:11:44.17\00:11:49.64 You sound like a mother. The whole grain...Very good. 00:11:49.67\00:11:51.67 I'm so proud of him because it's been such a huge, I think 00:11:51.71\00:11:57.75 emotionally, mentally and professionally it's a shock 00:11:57.78\00:12:02.18 that he dedicated his whole life as a doctor and he 00:12:02.22\00:12:07.36 went into medicine in order to be a very good doctor... 00:12:07.39\00:12:11.69 Yes, I'm sure he would...And he said Cho-Wan, 00:12:11.73\00:12:15.06 we were not given one hour of education on lifestyle on 00:12:15.10\00:12:20.77 diet and the connection between that and health and diseases. 00:12:20.80\00:12:25.57 Therefore he kept saying. I am so upset about this, 00:12:25.61\00:12:30.05 I am so angry about this... Yes, I could believe that. 00:12:30.08\00:12:33.42 He said I feel so embarrassed about this. 00:12:33.45\00:12:36.18 You can mention about your mom, what happened to your mom? 00:12:36.22\00:12:39.39 Oh yes. Yes. My mother is five years younger than my father 00:12:39.42\00:12:47.76 and about that time wasn't it that mommy...I thought that 00:12:47.80\00:12:55.94 she had a stroke because she was throwing up and 00:12:55.97\00:12:58.87 I looked at her face and one part of her mouth seemed 00:12:58.91\00:13:03.81 like it was drooping. She went to see her GP and it was not 00:13:03.85\00:13:08.98 Coralia at that time, and they said no, no she seems fine. 00:13:09.02\00:13:14.39 Made her do a few tests and said no, no she hasn't had 00:13:14.42\00:13:18.06 a stroke or anything like that. But they were intending to 00:13:18.09\00:13:23.43 fly over seas in the next seven days and I said to mommy, 00:13:23.47\00:13:28.97 you must come and have a second opinion. 00:13:29.00\00:13:31.54 So she came to see Coralia with daddy and I and Coralia 00:13:31.57\00:13:39.55 took her blood pressure, asked a few questions and said, 00:13:39.58\00:13:45.32 you must go in and do an MRI straight away because I think 00:13:45.35\00:13:50.33 you have had a stroke, but a very mini one. 00:13:50.36\00:13:54.13 We took her to do the test and sure enough, she had had 00:13:54.16\00:14:00.17 a mini stroke. So there was no international travel. 00:14:00.20\00:14:02.87 From that MRI she went the hospital into Emergency 00:14:02.90\00:14:09.61 and was admitted straight-away and the proceeded to spend 00:14:09.64\00:14:12.38 the next three months in a rehab hospital recovering 00:14:12.41\00:14:18.25 from it and she's totally fine now. So she too has 00:14:18.29\00:14:23.73 changed her diet...No more white carbs for anybody 00:14:23.76\00:14:27.76 are both eating grains...Lots of whole grains. Legumes and nuts 00:14:27.80\00:14:35.14 and fruits and vegetables. This is from a family where our 00:14:35.17\00:14:40.11 main diet used to be meat... What about your niece with IBS? 00:14:40.14\00:14:45.38 Oh yes. Nina, my sister's daughter. She was about ten 00:14:45.41\00:14:52.75 and she had been in and out of the Children's Hospital, 00:14:52.79\00:14:56.76 in and out all the time complaining of pains, 00:14:56.79\00:15:00.83 missing school and the last time this happened, 00:15:00.86\00:15:06.03 they said, we think we found the cause. 00:15:06.07\00:15:09.97 We think it might be an inflammation of her appendix. 00:15:10.01\00:15:15.14 But they did more tests and they said, well the inflammation 00:15:15.18\00:15:20.78 and the size growth is not big enough for us to justify 00:15:20.82\00:15:23.52 removing the appendix so we don't quite know... 00:15:23.55\00:15:26.72 We suggest you take her home and that's when I said to my 00:15:26.76\00:15:31.56 sister, what have you got to lose? Take her to see Coralia. 00:15:31.59\00:15:36.53 So she did, and in one appointment, Coralia asked her, 00:15:36.56\00:15:42.14 what are you eating, what are your favorite foods and 00:15:42.17\00:15:48.04 what do you do? I tell her, you have Mesenteric Adenitis 00:15:48.08\00:15:51.61 after I consulted her... Mesenteric Adenitis is an 00:15:51.65\00:15:55.92 inflamed gland in the abdomen and she had an ultrasound 00:15:55.95\00:16:00.69 confirmed it and I told her have you been in the hospital 00:16:00.72\00:16:05.59 many times? Just get off your dairy products completely. Yes. 00:16:05.63\00:16:09.73 You know, that is what happened to lifestyle medicine, 00:16:09.76\00:16:12.40 ever since I have never seen her as a patient. 00:16:12.43\00:16:15.64 (Laughter) That certainly wasn't in your interest. Ah yes. 00:16:15.67\00:16:21.18 So it seems like it is your main objective is to put your- 00:16:21.21\00:16:24.21 self out of business. But that hasn't happened because my 00:16:24.25\00:16:28.28 whole family is singing Coralia's praises obviously 00:16:28.32\00:16:32.72 and telling everyone...My father who is a doctor 00:16:32.75\00:16:35.82 is telling his specialist right about this and...What about you? 00:16:35.86\00:16:41.43 Yes, yes, with me I first went to see Coralia... 00:16:41.46\00:16:46.87 So you were the first person who went to see Dr. Coralia... 00:16:46.90\00:16:49.87 Yes. What were your concerns? I was just, I was living a 00:16:49.90\00:16:56.18 very very sort of hectic life, um, and working very long hours 00:16:56.21\00:17:04.05 and working very high pressure work. But I was fine, 00:17:04.09\00:17:08.62 I was doing well, so I thought you know, yes Type A type of 00:17:08.66\00:17:12.59 person and I will fine. And I thought that my diet very 00:17:12.63\00:17:17.20 healthy because I was trimming away all the fat from my meat, 00:17:17.23\00:17:19.73 but every single meal consisted of meat, white carbs and maybe 00:17:19.77\00:17:25.34 some vegetables. But I really thought I was doing very well 00:17:25.37\00:17:28.54 because I was eating a fruit a day, a piece of fruit a day 00:17:28.58\00:17:32.01 and I had some greens...But I thought in order to have protein 00:17:32.05\00:17:37.15 and everything, that was what I needed to do. 00:17:37.19\00:17:39.72 And I suddenly started to feel so unreal, I knew in myself, 00:17:39.75\00:17:45.23 I had no energy, I could hardly get out of bed but I will 00:17:45.26\00:17:49.20 drag myself out of bed and be very worried that I'd be 00:17:49.23\00:17:53.17 falling down...But no energy, very difficult to focus... 00:17:53.20\00:17:57.11 I went to see some doctors, they did a lot of blood tests 00:17:57.14\00:18:02.68 and they said, we really don't know what's wrong with you, 00:18:02.71\00:18:05.71 We don't think there is anything wrong...They didn't say that 00:18:05.75\00:18:09.88 quite like that but it seemed as though we can't find 00:18:09.92\00:18:13.29 anything wrong with you. But someone from church said 00:18:13.32\00:18:21.03 go and see Dr. Jigau, so I went to see her, and she said, 00:18:21.06\00:18:27.74 I want you to do a blood test. And I say, you know what? 00:18:27.77\00:18:30.41 I've already given so much blood, I can tell you exactly 00:18:30.44\00:18:33.48 what my blood test results are and she said, 00:18:33.51\00:18:36.34 what did they look for? I said what do you want to look for? 00:18:36.38\00:18:42.68 She said, I want to see what you vitamin and mineral levels 00:18:42.72\00:18:46.32 are. I thought she was joking because I was quite convinced 00:18:46.35\00:18:49.12 I had a major issue and that I was about to die and I thought, 00:18:49.16\00:18:53.76 she's looking for my vitamin levels. 00:18:53.80\00:18:55.53 Did you really think you were going to die? 00:18:55.56\00:18:56.90 I knew so because you see, I had a I thought amazing 00:18:56.93\00:19:01.24 health all my life. So you felt that bad? 00:19:01.27\00:19:03.81 Yeah, I felt that bad and really fearful because nobody could 00:19:03.84\00:19:08.54 pinpoint anything. So I was pumping on adrenalin 00:19:08.58\00:19:12.11 and that was how I was continuing to just continue. 00:19:12.15\00:19:17.09 The blood tests came out, and I went to see her and she 00:19:17.12\00:19:21.99 looked at the blood test results and she had this 00:19:22.02\00:19:23.83 huge smile on her face and she said Cho-wan, you are the 00:19:23.86\00:19:27.93 walking dead. And I thought, why are you smiling? 00:19:27.96\00:19:30.97 (Laughter) That's a good question. She said but I 00:19:31.00\00:19:35.40 have very good news for you, I know exactly why you are 00:19:35.44\00:19:39.47 feeling the way you are and this is very easily reversed. 00:19:39.51\00:19:43.71 I said, what is the problem? She said your vitamin D level 00:19:43.75\00:19:48.95 is 11, and I looked at her very blankly and I said, 00:19:48.98\00:19:52.92 what, I don't know what that means and I said, 00:19:52.95\00:19:55.42 well what else is wrong and she said, that will do it. 00:19:55.46\00:19:59.26 Vitamin D, vitamin B12, it was...this was one of the 00:19:59.29\00:20:05.33 problems...This was the worst... For anyone else viewing 00:20:05.37\00:20:08.77 who doesn't know how bad 11 is for vitamin D, 00:20:08.80\00:20:11.94 tell us how bad that is. Vitamin D, it's very bad, 00:20:11.97\00:20:15.38 it's supposed to be above 75 with good figures up to 250. 00:20:15.41\00:20:21.35 Alright. So vitamin D is absolutely essential for our 00:20:21.38\00:20:24.55 body. People know about it only regarding with the bone and 00:20:24.59\00:20:28.09 with calcium absorption from our bowels but vitamin B 00:20:28.12\00:20:31.46 is essential for your cardio- vascular system, it's essential 00:20:31.49\00:20:34.73 for your mental health because it's essential for protecting 00:20:34.76\00:20:39.37 body for a lot more than just simple bone and calcium 00:20:39.40\00:20:46.37 And could she have died if the levels weren't regulated? No. 00:20:46.41\00:20:50.58 But she would be lingering around. Lingering around... 00:20:50.61\00:20:53.42 We correct vitamin D, vitamin B12 like that, we check your 00:20:53.45\00:21:00.49 Omega 3 index, which also was extremely low 00:21:00.52\00:21:05.09 so we corrected everything that we could and um... 00:21:05.13\00:21:08.66 So within two months...and your Homocysteine was very high... 00:21:08.70\00:21:12.07 Homocysteine was very high... but not as high as your father 00:21:12.30\00:21:15.17 which was 49. My father's Homocysteine level was 49.9 00:21:15.20\00:21:20.28 when he first went to see her... The normal level is up to 10. 00:21:20.31\00:21:24.48 Within the ten days, two months later it had gone down to 34. 00:21:24.51\00:21:29.52 Mine I thought was very high too but nothing like daddy's. 00:21:29.55\00:21:34.02 But within...She put me on a very high dosage of vitamin D 00:21:34.06\00:21:40.33 and within, I think two months it had gone from 11 to 75 00:21:40.36\00:21:50.47 and my father's vitamin D level was also shocking. 00:21:50.51\00:21:53.78 His was 26, so a little bit better than the walking dead 00:21:53.81\00:21:57.68 here, but not much right? And his went up in 10 days 00:21:57.71\00:22:02.68 from 26 to 64, but you know you were right. 00:22:02.72\00:22:06.29 You were right in saying that because had she not told me 00:22:06.32\00:22:09.42 that, I would not have believed the condition of my body 00:22:09.46\00:22:13.33 because I thought I was eating so healthily, I thought I was 00:22:13.36\00:22:17.27 exercising you know, I'm being very active and so... 00:22:17.30\00:22:21.60 It was only hearing how shocking my health was that I changed. 00:22:21.64\00:22:26.68 Your body told you, you felt... and how do you feel now 00:22:26.71\00:22:30.88 comparing with how you have been before. Oh. Much... 00:22:30.91\00:22:34.05 Just take a look at her, she... That's wonderful. 00:22:34.08\00:22:37.49 Yes but it's taken me four years to change and it took me 00:22:37.52\00:22:42.19 four years because at the beginning I just started eating 00:22:42.22\00:22:47.86 a lot of fruits and vegetables because that was what I could 00:22:47.90\00:22:52.00 focus on and that is what I understood. 00:22:52.03\00:22:54.74 Then I had to add on things like nuts and legumes 00:22:54.77\00:22:59.41 and seeds and things like this. I found that it took me 00:22:59.44\00:23:06.18 four years to really comprehensively understand 00:23:06.21\00:23:09.72 what lifestyle living and change really is. 00:23:09.75\00:23:13.62 So I incorporated all of that and giving up, I think, 00:23:13.66\00:23:19.03 changing my taste buds you know...Living on meat and 00:23:19.06\00:23:23.83 living on strong tastes is you like, going to more bland food 00:23:23.87\00:23:30.94 more natural food and incorporating things at a 00:23:30.97\00:23:36.44 different level. All of that and also learning about the 00:23:36.48\00:23:40.48 importance of vitamin B12, so I became such a Zealot 00:23:40.52\00:23:44.62 that my vitamin B12 level dropped because I wasn't 00:23:44.65\00:23:49.82 listening to my doctor. She had said to me once you give up 00:23:49.86\00:23:55.03 animal protein, you must be aware of vitamin B12 and 00:23:55.06\00:24:01.14 must take supplements. But I very ignorantly thought well 00:24:01.17\00:24:05.17 now that my diet is so healthy, surely I'm getting everything 00:24:05.21\00:24:07.84 I need from my diet. Even though she kept warning me, 00:24:07.88\00:24:12.15 I disregarded it you see, until one day I wasn't well at all. 00:24:12.18\00:24:17.59 And this was last year, so I went to see her and she said, 00:24:17.62\00:24:18.95 what did I tell you about this, your vitamin B12 level is so low 00:24:18.99\00:24:28.20 and this means all of your other organs are going to be 00:24:28.23\00:24:30.87 affected. Because I thought I was have heart issues 00:24:30.90\00:24:36.24 and I didn't understand why but when I was so healthy 00:24:36.27\00:24:39.41 and so well, right? Had been so well for such a long time 00:24:39.44\00:24:43.14 so then I went on...she said you have to have vitamin B 00:24:43.18\00:24:49.42 injections straight away now, did that for six weeks, 00:24:49.45\00:24:54.42 one vial, on injection per week, brought that up... 00:24:54.46\00:24:58.39 So you know it's actually quite not that simple, it's not just 00:24:58.43\00:25:02.96 eat vegetables and fruit... No, you are right, it's one of 00:25:03.00\00:25:07.17 the things that isn't well supplied in a totally 00:25:07.20\00:25:10.61 plant based diet and it's very important. 00:25:10.64\00:25:12.51 I'm glad that you finally got to understand that. 00:25:12.54\00:25:17.68 Yes, it's very very important. That's right, yes. 00:25:17.71\00:25:24.19 So my father is well, he's very well but he's overseas so 00:25:24.22\00:25:29.62 he couldn't be here today. Oh, that's a shame, I would of 00:25:29.66\00:25:32.66 loved him to be here. Absolutely right. Do you think he would 00:25:32.69\00:25:35.86 come? Your dad. Do you think he would have come if he'd been 00:25:35.90\00:25:40.24 not overseas? I think he might, he's just a little bit shy 00:25:40.27\00:25:44.71 but I think he is so grateful for this journey...Yes. 00:25:44.74\00:25:51.08 Yes he is. That's lovely. I just think it's remarkable, 00:25:51.11\00:25:56.25 I think it's remarkable that this disease reversal can take 00:25:56.28\00:25:59.79 place at all, but in someone who is 89. I just think that's 00:25:59.82\00:26:05.89 a beautiful thing and I'd just like to say to people 00:26:05.93\00:26:08.46 our bodies are very forgiving, just like the One who made them. 00:26:08.50\00:26:12.17 Even at 89 you get a good result, so don't ever think 00:26:12.20\00:26:17.17 oh well, I've left it too late or I'm too sick because 00:26:17.21\00:26:20.24 we just found out that it's not too late and even really 00:26:20.28\00:26:25.71 even significant diseases can be helped because of that 00:26:25.75\00:26:29.28 the cells are being replaced all the time being remade. 00:26:29.32\00:26:34.22 I didn't believe myself, I didn't believe, I have never 00:26:34.26\00:26:38.03 experienced this...Isn't that amazing...W patient at this age. 00:26:38.06\00:26:41.30 I didn't because now you are going by the book and you see 00:26:41.33\00:26:46.17 what you see and you didn't expect at this age, that people 00:26:46.20\00:26:49.50 will improve, but...So are you a little bit nervous about... 00:26:49.54\00:26:52.64 No, I was not nervous, I was shocked with the results. 00:26:52.67\00:26:55.98 Okay, not nervous, shocked... You remember with daddy, 00:26:56.01\00:26:59.58 my father has three stents in his heart, right. So his heart 00:26:59.61\00:27:03.49 was never terribly good and now his specialist says, 00:27:03.52\00:27:07.96 I would like my heart to be like your heart when I'm 92. 00:27:07.99\00:27:11.79 And he says, I don't really need to see you you know. 00:27:11.83\00:27:15.63 I don't need to see you. Yeah. Isn't that the best thing you 00:27:15.66\00:27:19.83 could see? You're not just putting yourself out of 00:27:19.87\00:27:21.90 business, you're putting his heart specialist out of 00:27:21.94\00:27:25.44 business. I don't need to see you any- more. Oh my goodness. 00:27:25.47\00:27:28.34 Now there is a lot of business there if the patient will listen 00:27:28.38\00:27:32.71 and do a little change but we are in this culture, 00:27:32.75\00:27:37.25 it is a sort of culture...we want a quick fix, well a quick 00:27:37.29\00:27:41.06 take a pill and that's it, don't do anything. Don't go out of 00:27:41.09\00:27:44.89 your way, do what you want, eat whatever you want, 00:27:44.93\00:27:47.26 take a pill and be happy. It's not working like that. 00:27:47.30\00:27:49.96 Well I think that time he was very quick to be honest, 00:27:50.00\00:27:52.00 it might not be in the next couple of hours but 00:27:52.03\00:27:54.47 a couple of weeks is amazing. 00:27:54.50\00:27:55.84 Well today we focused on kidney failure but the healthy 00:27:55.87\00:28:00.14 lifestyle changes that reversed it have been found to reverse 00:28:00.18\00:28:03.95 many other diseases.
