Child Impact's investment in the lives 00:00:20.75\00:00:22.68 of more than 3,500 children 00:00:22.72\00:00:24.95 continues to yield infinite returns. 00:00:24.99\00:00:27.82 Outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:27.86\00:00:30.33 to providing an education and a home for deaf 00:00:30.36\00:00:33.19 and blind children and orphans. 00:00:33.23\00:00:35.40 Above all, Child Impact's sponsors give hope 00:00:35.43\00:00:38.97 to the ones who need it the most. 00:00:39.00\00:00:40.70 Hi, I'm Jim Rennie from Child Impact International. 00:00:46.11\00:00:50.21 And I just wanted to take a moment 00:00:50.25\00:00:51.91 to update you on the field in regards to the challenges 00:00:51.95\00:00:56.18 that we face with COVID. 00:00:56.22\00:00:58.45 In India, Bangladesh and Myanmar, unfortunately, 00:00:58.49\00:01:03.12 it's been pretty bad and it's still is. 00:01:03.16\00:01:06.16 Many of our staff and teachers in the schools 00:01:06.19\00:01:09.30 that we serve and also church pastors 00:01:09.33\00:01:12.40 and church workers have caught the virus. 00:01:12.43\00:01:15.44 And sadly, some have passed away. 00:01:15.47\00:01:18.44 To be honest, it's been a real challenge. 00:01:18.47\00:01:21.91 Most of the schools are still closed. 00:01:21.94\00:01:24.65 But I'm excited to announce that in the next two weeks, 00:01:24.68\00:01:27.75 the schools in India are starting to reopen. 00:01:27.78\00:01:31.62 Your ongoing support during this crisis has made 00:01:31.65\00:01:35.62 a real difference. 00:01:35.66\00:01:37.06 It's made a difference in the lives of the children. 00:01:37.09\00:01:40.10 It's made a difference in the lives of the teachers. 00:01:40.13\00:01:42.80 But your ongoing support is really going to ensure 00:01:42.83\00:01:46.77 that some of these mission schools do remain open. 00:01:46.80\00:01:51.97 Your contribution to the Rice, 00:01:52.01\00:01:54.14 Health and Education appeal has had a big impact. 00:01:54.18\00:01:58.21 It has enabled us to distribute over 20,000 sacks 00:01:58.25\00:02:02.95 of rice to our children, 00:02:02.98\00:02:05.65 to the teaching staff and to the pastors. 00:02:05.69\00:02:08.92 Many of these workers have not been paid or are on half wages. 00:02:08.96\00:02:13.53 So your generous giving has had a real impact on their lives. 00:02:13.56\00:02:19.13 During this time 00:02:19.17\00:02:20.67 The Where Needed Most Fund has been very well supported. 00:02:20.70\00:02:24.54 And it's enabled us 00:02:24.57\00:02:25.97 to keep working in these difficult areas 00:02:26.01\00:02:29.24 during the virus crisis. 00:02:29.28\00:02:31.61 And just at our last meeting, 00:02:31.65\00:02:33.82 last Sunday, we voted $90,000 00:02:33.85\00:02:37.82 to help some urgently needed projects 00:02:37.85\00:02:40.56 for Adventist mission schools in Bangladesh. 00:02:40.59\00:02:43.79 We will implement these when the schools open. 00:02:43.83\00:02:47.00 And we're now seeing the side effects 00:02:47.03\00:02:48.96 or the downside of COVID. 00:02:49.00\00:02:51.73 And in India, 00:02:51.77\00:02:53.10 there are thousands of COVID orphans. 00:02:53.13\00:02:56.30 These are children who have lost both parents 00:02:56.34\00:02:59.07 or one parent and are unable to cope anymore. 00:02:59.11\00:03:04.38 These kids are often rejected by the rest of the society 00:03:04.41\00:03:08.12 or the village. 00:03:08.15\00:03:09.48 And we're just so excited 00:03:09.52\00:03:10.85 that we've been able to take 40 of these COVID orphans 00:03:10.89\00:03:15.16 into our home at Sunrise. 00:03:15.19\00:03:17.36 And we're looking at ways of working with the government 00:03:17.39\00:03:20.43 to support many more of them. 00:03:20.46\00:03:22.90 We see it as a big opportunity 00:03:22.93\00:03:24.70 and a new project for Operation Child Rescue. 00:03:24.73\00:03:28.10 And we're just so excited about this. 00:03:28.14\00:03:31.91 Some of you may know 00:03:31.94\00:03:33.27 that I'm stepping down as CEO, 00:03:33.31\00:03:35.68 and I'll be returning to my home country in New Zealand. 00:03:35.71\00:03:39.68 And I just want to thank you each one for the support 00:03:39.71\00:03:42.82 that you have given me and Child Impact over 14 years. 00:03:42.85\00:03:47.59 You've seen the organization grow 00:03:47.62\00:03:50.06 and we simply couldn't have done it 00:03:50.09\00:03:52.33 without you the donor, you the sponsor. 00:03:52.36\00:03:55.53 And I'm just so proud of what we've achieved. 00:03:55.56\00:03:58.93 But I'm just so grateful to your generosity 00:03:58.97\00:04:02.64 and the blessings of the Lord. 00:04:02.67\00:04:05.37 Well, today I'm very excited 00:04:05.41\00:04:07.24 that I can introduce the new Child Impact 00:04:07.28\00:04:10.68 International CEO, Tom Evans. 00:04:10.71\00:04:13.92 Tom, welcome to Child Impact. 00:04:13.95\00:04:16.02 Thank you, Jim. 00:04:16.05\00:04:17.39 I just want to clarify something though. 00:04:17.42\00:04:19.49 You said that you're stepping down, 00:04:19.52\00:04:21.22 but you're actually not stepping away. 00:04:21.26\00:04:23.89 We have met as a board and we would really like 00:04:23.93\00:04:26.46 to have you continue in a role in particular 00:04:26.49\00:04:29.23 with India and Bangladesh. 00:04:29.26\00:04:30.80 Can you share a little bit about that? 00:04:30.83\00:04:33.30 Yes, in these countries, we are facing a lot of change, 00:04:33.34\00:04:37.34 a lot of challenges. 00:04:37.37\00:04:39.04 And so we want to conduct a full review 00:04:39.07\00:04:42.34 of our education program, of our sponsorship program. 00:04:42.38\00:04:47.52 There are challenges with government regulation, 00:04:47.55\00:04:51.35 with standards of education, political issues. 00:04:51.39\00:04:55.62 And so my job will be to conduct a review 00:04:55.66\00:05:00.03 and to make recommendations to the Child Impact board. 00:05:00.06\00:05:04.33 I've been operating in those field now for 14 years. 00:05:04.37\00:05:07.74 And so I'm excited to take on this challenge 00:05:07.77\00:05:10.71 because it's really needed at this time. 00:05:10.74\00:05:13.11 And, Jim, I'm looking forward to journeying with you in that 00:05:13.14\00:05:17.18 and having the benefit of all of your knowledge 00:05:17.21\00:05:20.15 of each of these projects. 00:05:20.18\00:05:21.52 Thanks, Tom. 00:05:21.55\00:05:22.88 And I can continue to support you in your role as well. 00:05:22.92\00:05:28.36 So tell us about Tom Evans? 00:05:28.39\00:05:30.79 Sure. 00:05:30.83\00:05:32.56 Look, I always start out by saying I was born in Texas. 00:05:32.59\00:05:35.96 You know, because everything's bigger in Texas, right? 00:05:36.00\00:05:39.17 But grew up in the northwest. 00:05:39.20\00:05:41.10 So that's where the accent is from and had an opportunity 00:05:41.14\00:05:44.47 to attend Adventist schools. 00:05:44.51\00:05:47.11 What a blessing. 00:05:47.14\00:05:48.48 I remember I went to public school for one day, 00:05:48.51\00:05:50.85 Jim and I got kicked out the first day of school. 00:05:50.88\00:05:53.48 So they called my parents to come pick him up. 00:05:53.52\00:05:55.22 So that's when I started my Adventist education. 00:05:55.25\00:05:57.79 So it's a big story, but I won't go there. 00:05:57.82\00:05:59.72 But in any case, it's a blessing. 00:05:59.75\00:06:01.56 And we're so blessed to have those opportunities. 00:06:01.59\00:06:04.26 I was able to attend Newbold College over in England as well 00:06:04.29\00:06:07.66 and graduated from Walla Walla University 00:06:07.70\00:06:10.47 and then also a couple times from Andrews University. 00:06:10.50\00:06:13.40 Right. And tell us about your family? 00:06:13.44\00:06:15.80 Sure, that's the most important part. 00:06:15.84\00:06:18.21 I have three grown daughters. 00:06:18.24\00:06:20.01 And we have, they live in Texas 00:06:20.04\00:06:22.04 and I have two boys that are both in high school, 00:06:22.08\00:06:26.58 in academy. 00:06:26.61\00:06:28.15 But that wasn't enough. 00:06:28.18\00:06:29.52 We just adopted two boys from an orphanage in Latvia. 00:06:29.55\00:06:31.92 Wow. Yeah. 00:06:31.95\00:06:33.36 And we really went out because they're both, 00:06:33.39\00:06:36.99 one is 13, and one's 12. 00:06:37.03\00:06:38.59 So we get to enjoy them for their whole teenage years. 00:06:38.63\00:06:42.53 We've known the boys for a while, 00:06:42.56\00:06:44.63 they visited during Christmas and summers. 00:06:44.67\00:06:47.70 And we finally have been able to get that adoption 00:06:47.74\00:06:50.34 pulled together. 00:06:50.37\00:06:51.71 Tom, tell us about the roles 00:06:51.74\00:06:53.21 that you've held before coming into this new position? 00:06:53.24\00:06:56.24 Sure. 00:06:56.28\00:06:57.61 I've been a pastor, local church pastor. 00:06:57.65\00:06:59.61 Church planting has been a big passion of mine, 00:06:59.65\00:07:02.05 starting new churches. 00:07:02.08\00:07:03.42 And during our time in Texas there as a departmental leader, 00:07:03.45\00:07:07.06 we planted 114 churches in nine years. 00:07:07.09\00:07:09.89 So that was quite an adventure and exciting. 00:07:09.92\00:07:12.49 But I went from there to teach at the seminary 00:07:12.53\00:07:14.46 at Andrews University. 00:07:14.50\00:07:16.53 The interesting thing, though 00:07:16.56\00:07:17.90 and how does that all relate to Child Impact 00:07:17.93\00:07:19.97 is whatever role that I've been in, 00:07:20.00\00:07:22.27 I've really, my desire, 00:07:22.30\00:07:24.17 my heart is to look for those individuals 00:07:24.21\00:07:26.81 that are marginalized, neglected. 00:07:26.84\00:07:29.84 And so working with refugees or single moms 00:07:29.88\00:07:33.68 or sponsoring children, whatever that may be. 00:07:33.72\00:07:36.02 That's always been part of my heart 00:07:36.05\00:07:37.95 and part of the ministry I've been involved in. 00:07:37.99\00:07:40.36 Wow. 00:07:40.39\00:07:41.72 And what do you see as the future? 00:07:41.76\00:07:44.33 What excites you about Child Impact? 00:07:44.36\00:07:46.80 And what do you see as the future? 00:07:46.83\00:07:49.43 First of all, I think Child Impact is a great name. 00:07:49.46\00:07:52.03 I also like the name Operation Child Rescue 00:07:52.07\00:07:54.44 because I think in the name Child Impact, 00:07:54.47\00:07:56.71 it really encapsulates what is being done. 00:07:56.74\00:08:00.48 It's making a difference in the life of a child. 00:08:00.51\00:08:03.11 And that difference begins, you know, 00:08:03.14\00:08:05.48 with their Adventist Mission School experience, 00:08:05.51\00:08:07.52 but it extends to their family and it gives them 00:08:07.55\00:08:10.72 a whole different direction for their life. 00:08:10.75\00:08:13.05 So I'm very excited about the mission 00:08:13.09\00:08:15.62 what Child Impact represents. 00:08:15.66\00:08:18.56 In terms of coming to this role, for me, 00:08:18.59\00:08:21.80 it's exciting to see an alignment 00:08:21.83\00:08:23.77 between my personal passion, my personal life 00:08:23.80\00:08:26.74 and my family and what we represent 00:08:26.77\00:08:28.94 and believe in and the professional experience 00:08:28.97\00:08:32.11 of working with Child Impact. 00:08:32.14\00:08:33.48 So that alignment is very exciting to be able 00:08:33.51\00:08:36.51 to spend time doing ministry in a way that makes 00:08:36.54\00:08:41.45 a difference for children. 00:08:41.48\00:08:43.59 I'm excited about that. 00:08:43.62\00:08:45.35 And Operation Child Rescue is going to be a key part 00:08:45.39\00:08:49.49 of our growth moving forward. 00:08:49.52\00:08:52.69 Just tell us about what do you think of Operation Child Rescue 00:08:52.73\00:08:56.53 and where it'll go? 00:08:56.56\00:08:57.90 Well, it's very interesting, because as I took on this role, 00:08:57.93\00:09:01.60 people would be asking me, 00:09:01.64\00:09:02.97 well, what does Child Impact do? 00:09:03.00\00:09:04.34 And I would talk about sponsorship and the schools 00:09:04.37\00:09:07.91 and different countries. 00:09:07.94\00:09:09.78 But as soon as I mentioned, human trafficking, 00:09:09.81\00:09:12.05 that Child Impact is involved in helping 00:09:12.08\00:09:14.38 to stop these injustice, 00:09:14.42\00:09:16.92 this blight on our planet of human trafficking. 00:09:16.95\00:09:20.59 The level of interest in that is extremely high. 00:09:20.62\00:09:23.39 And I find even young adults, college students, 00:09:23.43\00:09:27.46 this is something that they want to make 00:09:27.50\00:09:29.40 a difference with this particular area. 00:09:29.43\00:09:31.80 And so the fact that Child Impact 00:09:31.83\00:09:33.30 is involved in human trafficking in various ways, 00:09:33.34\00:09:36.67 whether it be slave labor or abandoned babies 00:09:36.71\00:09:39.07 or vulnerable children, due to being COVID orphans 00:09:39.11\00:09:41.81 or even more specifically, sex trafficking. 00:09:41.84\00:09:45.61 The fact that we're involved in those areas, 00:09:45.65\00:09:48.22 I think, really is a chance 00:09:48.25\00:09:51.42 to raise public awareness to this need 00:09:51.45\00:09:55.99 and to begin to see it make a difference for these kids 00:09:56.02\00:09:59.06 that really had been imprisoned against their will, 00:09:59.09\00:10:02.33 and to bring them freedom. 00:10:02.36\00:10:03.77 I mean, what a biblical responsibility 00:10:03.80\00:10:06.37 we have to look out for this kind of children. 00:10:06.40\00:10:10.24 That's right. 00:10:10.27\00:10:11.71 Well, the board are very excited, 00:10:11.74\00:10:13.84 the staff are very excited, 00:10:13.88\00:10:15.41 the field are very excited 00:10:15.44\00:10:16.98 that Tom has come on board. 00:10:17.01\00:10:18.95 And it will allow me to focus on a big need 00:10:18.98\00:10:22.38 of the challenges we face in the field. 00:10:22.42\00:10:25.29 And it will also give you, 00:10:25.32\00:10:27.26 the supporters' confidence that we're adding resources 00:10:27.29\00:10:31.16 and that we're going to continue to grow. 00:10:31.19\00:10:34.03 We live in difficult times 00:10:34.06\00:10:35.63 and we just ask for your prayers, 00:10:35.66\00:10:38.10 as we face new challenges, 00:10:38.13\00:10:40.47 new leadership and especially for the field 00:10:40.50\00:10:43.64 and where we operate. 00:10:43.67\00:10:45.24 Jim, I want to say a special thank you to you 00:10:45.27\00:10:47.84 for your leadership with Child Impact. 00:10:47.88\00:10:51.21 I've come to an organization to be a part of it 00:10:51.25\00:10:53.58 that is well run, ministry focused, 00:10:53.62\00:10:57.12 putting resources into the field 00:10:57.15\00:10:59.02 where it matters most. 00:10:59.05\00:11:00.62 I'm so excited for the various projects that Child Impact 00:11:00.66\00:11:04.26 is involved in helping blind Impact International. 00:12:16.30\00:12:19.77 Every Christmas we feature our very important major appeal, 00:12:19.80\00:12:23.44 which we call impact gifts. 00:12:23.47\00:12:26.07 This year, we are focusing on three significant opportunities 00:12:26.11\00:12:30.28 to make a difference. 00:12:30.31\00:12:32.18 The challenge that COVID has left us within 00:12:32.21\00:12:34.52 the third world countries where Child Impact operates 00:12:34.55\00:12:37.29 continues to pose many difficulties. 00:12:37.32\00:12:40.52 Their tremendous needs are compounded by shortages 00:12:40.56\00:12:43.56 and cost increases. 00:12:43.59\00:12:45.59 The most tragic of all is human loss due to the pandemic. 00:12:45.63\00:12:50.03 It feels overwhelming 00:12:50.07\00:12:51.57 and almost insurmountable at times. 00:12:51.60\00:12:54.40 I'm very grateful for the Lord's blessing 00:12:54.44\00:12:56.27 and the generosity of Child Impact's supporters 00:12:56.30\00:12:59.11 and I'm proud of the work that this has allowed us to do. 00:12:59.14\00:13:02.38 Impact gifts is our most important appeal for the year 00:13:02.41\00:13:05.88 and now has an extra sense of urgency. 00:13:05.91\00:13:09.45 During this Christmas season, we would like to invite you 00:13:09.48\00:13:11.99 to partner with us in the following three ways. 00:13:12.02\00:13:15.12 First is The Where Needed Most Fund. 00:13:15.16\00:13:17.89 This not only supports our operation, 00:13:17.93\00:13:20.36 but also allows us to support urgent requests we receive. 00:13:20.40\00:13:24.07 Unexpected challenges arise 00:13:24.10\00:13:25.80 and we want to be prepared for this. 00:13:25.83\00:13:28.20 Where Needed Most is the key fund 00:13:28.24\00:13:30.31 to running our organization and helping others. 00:13:30.34\00:13:33.68 The next fund is the Blind, Deaf and Orphan Fund, 00:13:33.71\00:13:36.61 which is a key program 00:13:36.64\00:13:37.98 to help serve the special needs children 00:13:38.01\00:13:40.42 who we support. 00:13:40.45\00:13:41.78 These precious children 00:13:41.82\00:13:43.35 with special needs are a significant focus 00:13:43.39\00:13:46.05 of our ministry at Child Impact. 00:13:46.09\00:13:48.42 Our third appeal is Operation Child Rescue 00:13:48.46\00:13:51.26 which is doing such an amazing work in rescuing, 00:13:51.29\00:13:54.63 rehabilitating and
