Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.77 that gives hope and fosters permanent, 00:00:03.80\00:00:06.03 positive change in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:06.07\00:00:09.07 and their communities. 00:00:09.10\00:00:11.81 Countries include Zambia, Kenya, 00:00:11.84\00:00:15.94 India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. 00:00:15.98\00:00:21.18 Child Impact's investment 00:00:21.22\00:00:22.55 in the lives of more than 3,500 children 00:00:22.58\00:00:25.35 continues to yield infinite returns. 00:00:25.39\00:00:28.29 Outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:28.32\00:00:30.76 to providing an education and a home 00:00:30.79\00:00:33.03 for deaf and blind children and orphans. 00:00:33.06\00:00:35.76 Above all, Child Impact's sponsors 00:00:35.80\00:00:38.57 give hope to the ones who need it the most. 00:00:38.60\00:00:41.17 Zambia is a country rich with history 00:01:00.56\00:01:02.99 and spectacular landscapes. 00:01:03.02\00:01:05.46 The Victoria Falls were discovered 00:01:05.49\00:01:07.40 and named by David Livingstone in 1855. 00:01:07.43\00:01:11.50 Describing them, he said, "Seems so lovely 00:01:11.53\00:01:14.30 must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight." 00:01:14.34\00:01:18.57 Geographically, Zambia is a landlocked country 00:01:18.61\00:01:22.24 located in South Central Africa. 00:01:22.28\00:01:26.55 The population of Zambia 00:01:26.58\00:01:28.08 has one of the youngest median ages 00:01:28.12\00:01:29.95 of any country in the world. 00:01:29.98\00:01:32.22 The population of 17.9 million is growing fast, 00:01:32.25\00:01:35.89 and is expected to double every 25 years. 00:01:35.92\00:01:39.56 This is putting a substantial strain 00:01:39.59\00:01:41.76 on the demand for jobs, 00:01:41.80\00:01:43.33 health care, and social services. 00:01:43.37\00:01:47.04 Education is key to ensuring that this growing population 00:01:47.07\00:01:50.91 is able to support itself and to help raise 00:01:50.94\00:01:53.58 the next generation out of poverty. 00:01:53.61\00:01:57.45 Though education is required by law up to grade seven, 00:01:57.48\00:02:01.02 often the quality of that education is lacking. 00:02:01.05\00:02:05.65 Many children are not able to go beyond grade seven 00:02:05.69\00:02:08.62 due to a lack of schools to support all of the students. 00:02:08.66\00:02:13.70 Learning of the great need in Zambia, 00:02:13.73\00:02:15.80 Child Impact International decided to expand 00:02:15.83\00:02:18.37 into the country Well, 00:02:18.40\00:02:20.34 Child Impact's just at the stage 00:02:20.37\00:02:22.40 where we're growing and we needed to find 00:02:22.44\00:02:24.64 a new country to go to. 00:02:24.67\00:02:26.88 And we had always had a strong request for Africa. 00:02:26.91\00:02:30.55 There are many people who have a burden 00:02:30.58\00:02:32.45 and a heart for Africa. 00:02:32.48\00:02:34.12 And so we looked at it. 00:02:34.15\00:02:35.72 And we were very excited to find Riverside Farms 00:02:35.75\00:02:39.19 that we could partner with. 00:02:39.22\00:02:41.66 Riverside Farms give us good management. 00:02:41.69\00:02:44.93 They operate a good school 00:02:44.96\00:02:46.90 so that we can be confident 00:02:46.93\00:02:48.83 that our sponsorship on the ground 00:02:48.86\00:02:51.97 is very effective. 00:02:52.00\00:02:54.24 The founders of Riverside Farms 00:02:54.27\00:02:55.97 were dedicated to helping the people of Zambia. 00:02:56.00\00:03:00.21 The history is there were two doctors, 00:03:00.24\00:03:02.88 a father and a son who came to Zambia. 00:03:02.91\00:03:06.21 And they actually flew 00:03:06.25\00:03:07.65 and served about seven countries there in Zambia 00:03:07.68\00:03:10.92 as flying doctors. 00:03:10.95\00:03:12.29 So one was an eye doctor, J.G. Foster, 00:03:12.32\00:03:15.12 and then his son, Ray Foster, did more surgeries 00:03:15.16\00:03:18.99 and other more general work under, yeah, tough situation. 00:03:19.03\00:03:24.77 And so he was the first doctor to treat Blacks, 00:03:24.80\00:03:29.30 Indians or Caucasians alike at home. 00:03:29.34\00:03:33.91 And so even today, 00:03:33.94\00:03:35.71 you can go and find people who will say, "No, 00:03:35.74\00:03:39.15 that Dr. Foster came to my home and he treated me as a child." 00:03:39.18\00:03:42.58 And so huge respect was built there. 00:03:42.62\00:03:45.69 But it wasn't there at Riverside. 00:03:45.72\00:03:47.59 It was in Zambia as a whole helped, 00:03:47.62\00:03:49.42 start one of the biggest churches 00:03:49.46\00:03:50.93 in Lusaka. 00:03:50.96\00:03:52.29 And then war broke out. 00:03:52.33\00:03:54.66 And the church pulled out all the missionaries. 00:03:54.70\00:03:56.97 And then after the war, he said, 00:03:57.00\00:03:59.40 "Hey, I want to come back." 00:03:59.43\00:04:00.84 And when he came back, the church said, 00:04:00.87\00:04:02.20 "Listen, you know, we've nationalized our system. 00:04:02.24\00:04:06.51 So we're not sending American missionaries 00:04:06.54\00:04:09.38 back to Zambia." 00:04:09.41\00:04:11.95 He says, "No problem. 00:04:11.98\00:04:13.48 I'll go on my own. I'll be a doctor. 00:04:13.52\00:04:15.18 I'm going to go back." So he went back to Zambia. 00:04:15.22\00:04:17.65 Bought one farm, sold that farm, 00:04:17.69\00:04:19.55 bought another farm, Riverside, 00:04:19.59\00:04:21.72 and began to work there. 00:04:21.76\00:04:23.46 As he got older, 00:04:23.49\00:04:24.93 his father actually the father of the older doctor, 00:04:24.96\00:04:27.50 the eye doctor he passed away, 00:04:27.53\00:04:29.73 he was buried actually on the farm. 00:04:29.76\00:04:31.10 Riverside Farms' rich history of missionary service 00:04:34.14\00:04:37.54 continued by expanding into education. 00:04:37.57\00:04:40.58 The school at Riverside Farms offers primary education, 00:04:40.61\00:04:44.05 but is continuing to grow 00:04:44.08\00:04:45.61 and will offer secondary education. 00:04:45.65\00:04:48.65 Education is a vital part of helping Zambia 00:04:48.68\00:04:51.49 to break the poverty cycle. 00:04:51.52\00:04:54.46 When I visited Riverside Farms, I was really taken by the need. 00:04:54.49\00:05:00.40 I mean, we operate in six other countries, 00:05:00.43\00:05:03.53 and I've seen a lot of need. 00:05:03.57\00:05:05.77 But here I saw families 00:05:05.80\00:05:08.30 that were really, really struggling, 00:05:08.34\00:05:11.11 I was actually very touched 00:05:11.14\00:05:13.68 by the commitment of the parents 00:05:13.71\00:05:16.44 who are fighting a drought, a real drought. 00:05:16.48\00:05:19.31 And so not only did they have a need 00:05:19.35\00:05:22.48 for their children to go to school for an education, 00:05:22.52\00:05:26.22 they actually have a need for their children 00:05:26.25\00:05:28.52 to have a meal every day. 00:05:28.56\00:05:30.56 And so I know that in the Zambian school, 00:05:30.59\00:05:34.76 the kids that are going there 00:05:34.80\00:05:36.87 are of very genuine need. 00:05:36.90\00:05:41.40 Zambia is still recovering from the effects of the drought 00:05:41.44\00:05:44.67 with a shortage of food and clean drinking water. 00:05:44.71\00:05:48.71 For many of the children that attend Riverside Farms, 00:05:48.74\00:05:51.25 the meal that they eat there 00:05:51.28\00:05:52.98 will be the only one they will have that day. 00:05:53.01\00:05:56.52 The work that Riverside Farms is doing is vitally important, 00:05:56.55\00:05:59.79 not only for these children's future, 00:05:59.82\00:06:01.96 but also for their immediate needs. 00:06:01.99\00:06:05.83 The partnership between Child Impact 00:06:05.86\00:06:07.80 and Riverside Farms 00:06:07.83\00:06:09.16 has opened the door 00:06:09.20\00:06:10.53 for Riverside to be able to do more for the children. 00:06:10.57\00:06:14.24 So the school when we built the new school, 00:06:14.27\00:06:16.00 we were planning to build it. 00:06:16.04\00:06:17.37 And then when we got in touch with Child Impact, 00:06:17.41\00:06:19.41 that's going to allow us to put the school at capacity. 00:06:19.44\00:06:22.14 There's no reason to run the school 00:06:22.18\00:06:24.05 with just a handful of people 00:06:24.08\00:06:25.51 who can afford to come to the school, 00:06:25.55\00:06:27.68 because they're working. 00:06:27.72\00:06:29.72 And you have this whole set of kids 00:06:29.75\00:06:31.95 who are completely unserved, the ones who need it the most, 00:06:31.99\00:06:36.39 who wouldn't be able to come. 00:06:36.42\00:06:37.76 And so this provides that opportunity 00:06:37.79\00:06:39.19 because even with the farm, 00:06:39.23\00:06:41.73 and us be able to do some, 00:06:41.76\00:06:43.43 it allows us to have teachers for the full set of teachers, 00:06:43.47\00:06:47.04 and provide for a lot more kids that way who wouldn't get in. 00:06:47.07\00:06:52.41 And it also allows us to add the feeding program, 00:06:52.44\00:06:54.88 which this year with the drought, 00:06:54.91\00:06:56.24 we've had a very few inches of rain in the last two years. 00:06:56.28\00:06:59.71 So they already had a drought. 00:06:59.75\00:07:01.08 And then we had almost a complete drought this year. 00:07:01.12\00:07:03.92 I'd say 20 years, 00:07:03.95\00:07:05.69 we haven't seen a drought this bad. 00:07:05.72\00:07:07.29 I mean, people are obviously are starving to death. 00:07:07.32\00:07:09.26 And so when kids come to school, 00:07:09.29\00:07:11.46 one of the things that farm's done 00:07:11.49\00:07:12.83 is provided each of them with bananas, 00:07:12.86\00:07:15.06 because we grow bananas. 00:07:15.10\00:07:16.46 But that's not a complete meal. 00:07:16.50\00:07:17.87 And they need one 00:07:17.90\00:07:19.23 because they're not getting much. 00:07:19.27\00:07:20.60 And so being able to be involved with Child Impact, 00:07:20.64\00:07:22.47 there were some of the hungry money projects 00:07:22.50\00:07:24.51 that got involved, 00:07:24.54\00:07:26.14 they're going to be able to get a full meal, 00:07:26.17\00:07:29.01 one meal when they're there. 00:07:29.04\00:07:30.48 And that's an impact that we couldn't do otherwise. 00:07:30.51\00:07:34.75 And it just is going to allow the school 00:07:34.78\00:07:36.58 to have better books, 00:07:36.62\00:07:37.95 them to have a uniform, these kids, 00:07:37.99\00:07:42.32 a lot of them were coming in rags, 00:07:42.36\00:07:43.69 I mean, just straight up. 00:07:43.73\00:07:45.06 And so that's something if for them, 00:07:45.09\00:07:48.43 you know, they come to school, they're all in uniform. 00:07:48.46\00:07:50.97 They're all equal in the ability to learn, 00:07:51.00\00:07:54.50 and have God impact their life that way. 00:07:54.54\00:07:58.31 These children are being given a hope and a future, 00:07:58.34\00:08:01.58 thanks to the partnership of these two organizations 00:08:01.61\00:08:04.61 and sponsors like you. 00:08:04.65\00:08:07.35 But what they are being given goes beyond just a meal today, 00:08:07.38\00:08:10.92 and an education for tomorrow. 00:08:10.95\00:08:13.32 They are being given a knowledge 00:08:13.36\00:08:14.69 of the world to come. 00:08:14.72\00:08:16.16 This knowledge they are not keeping to themselves. 00:08:16.19\00:08:18.46 They are sharing 00:08:18.49\00:08:19.83 what they've learned with their family and friends, 00:08:19.86\00:08:21.93 which has had an amazing impact. 00:08:21.96\00:08:24.30 This one boy that we took, 00:08:24.33\00:08:26.74 he came to me and he started so bad 00:08:26.77\00:08:29.50 that I didn't know if I should take him into school. 00:08:29.54\00:08:33.38 But I decided to take him and he completed school. 00:08:33.41\00:08:37.45 And it's the same story. 00:08:37.48\00:08:38.81 He became baptized. 00:08:38.85\00:08:40.18 And now he's finished nursing school, 00:08:40.22\00:08:42.68 we sent him to nursing school. 00:08:42.72\00:08:44.62 And he's witnessing to all the people 00:08:44.65\00:08:46.92 that he is at school with. 00:08:46.96\00:08:48.69 And he's influencing his family. 00:08:48.72\00:08:51.16 And he's just such an amazing boy. 00:08:51.19\00:08:53.26 And he's giving even sermons without stuttering. 00:08:53.29\00:08:56.93 And I just see so many positive effects 00:08:56.97\00:09:00.30 of when these kids go to school. 00:09:00.34\00:09:01.87 So I'm so excited 00:09:01.90\00:09:03.24 that we're going to be able to even double in one time 00:09:03.27\00:09:06.61 through Child Impact the amount of children 00:09:06.64\00:09:08.61 that we're going to put in school. 00:09:08.64\00:09:12.28 Sponsored children remember the great gift 00:09:12.31\00:09:14.52 that they have been given, 00:09:14.55\00:09:16.15 and are eager to help others and tell them 00:09:16.18\00:09:18.49 about what they have learned about God. 00:09:18.52\00:09:21.16 You see children who go to school, 00:09:21.19\00:09:23.29 and their parents get baptized, 00:09:23.32\00:09:24.99 and you see kids going to school and you see, 00:09:25.03\00:09:27.33 yeah, they're telling the stories, 00:09:27.36\00:09:28.70 they're singing the songs they now know 00:09:28.73\00:09:30.37 and have a background and go on to school. 00:09:30.40\00:09:32.37 I mean, one of the big doctors in town went to Loma Linda, 00:09:32.40\00:09:36.77 who put him all the way through, 00:09:36.81\00:09:38.14 came back and now he runs the Adventist clinic, 00:09:38.17\00:09:40.01 a big part of running the Adventist clinic in town. 00:09:40.04\00:09:42.48 And yeah, my kids, that's where we take them, 00:09:42.51\00:09:45.61 you know, they have a major problem 00:09:45.65\00:09:47.02 or if I got sick, 00:09:47.05\00:09:49.35 you're going to someone 00:09:49.38\00:09:50.72 who went to the school right there. 00:09:50.75\00:09:52.55 So it's cool to see that impact and that's from someone who, 00:09:52.59\00:09:58.06 you know, the education changed their life. 00:09:58.09\00:10:00.23 These are just a few examples of changed lives. 00:10:00.26\00:10:02.93 Thanks to the support of donors and sponsors, 00:10:02.96\00:10:05.80 there are so many who are now unable to help others. 00:10:05.83\00:10:08.94 There are many more who are wishing 00:10:08.97\00:10:10.97 for the same opportunity. 00:10:11.01\00:10:13.07 You know, when someone gives to sponsor a child, 00:10:13.11\00:10:16.85 that child gets an opportunity, we always talk about, 00:10:16.88\00:10:19.91 well, you know, your kids, hey, they that your kids can, 00:10:19.95\00:10:21.95 anything they can dream of they can be 00:10:21.98\00:10:23.45 and we all use these kinds of things. 00:10:23.49\00:10:25.92 It's a lie in Africa. 00:10:25.95\00:10:27.46 Oftentimes, kids have no chance 00:10:27.49\00:10:29.26 and their future looks very monochromatic. 00:10:29.29\00:10:33.16 You know, it's one thing they're going to do, 00:10:33.19\00:10:34.83 they're going to be a sheep herder, 00:10:34.86\00:10:36.20 they're going to be a goat herder, 00:10:36.23\00:10:37.57 they're going to be a cattle herder. 00:10:37.60\00:10:38.93 Or they're going to burn charcoal, 00:10:38.97\00:10:40.30 or they're going to die. 00:10:40.34\00:10:41.67 And when you give kids an education, 00:10:41.70\00:10:43.61 you've changed their life. 00:10:43.64\00:10:44.97 Everything becomes possible, 00:10:45.01\00:10:46.34 they actually have that opportunity 00:10:46.37\00:10:48.24 to change the world. 00:10:48.28\00:10:49.61 And you see them, some of them doing it, it's really cool. 00:10:49.64\00:10:51.48 So that's really what happens 00:10:51.51\00:10:54.32 when you sponsor a child is they have a chance 00:10:54.35\00:10:57.32 when they would have otherwise had none. 00:10:57.35\00:10:58.79 It's very important for us to find a partner on the ground 00:11:06.73\00:11:11.97 that supports our mission. 00:11:12.00\00:11:14.80 And so they need to be 00:11:14.84\00:11:16.17 a strong Adventist Mission partner. 00:11:16.20\00:11:19.11 And Riverside is the ideal 00:11:19.14\00:11:21.41 because not only do they have strong management, 00:11:21.44\00:11:24.55 they operate a well-run school, 00:11:24.58\00:11:28.12 and then in turn, their job 00:11:28.15\00:11:31.22 is that they're serving the community. 00:11:31.25\00:11:33.82 And so Riverside for us is a very unique partner 00:11:33.86\00:11:37.99 in that they ensure that the school's well run, 00:11:38.03\00:11:41.56 but then in turn, 00:11:41.60\00:11:42.93 we're helping them with their mission 00:11:42.96\00:11:45.33 in the local community. 00:11:45.37\00:11:47.07 Have you experienced a miracle in your life? 00:12:05.59\00:12:08.66 Many times, miracles come through the actions of others 00:12:08.69\00:12:12.36 who God uses in powerful ways. 00:12:12.39\00:12:14.96 My name is Tom Evans, 00:12:15.00\00:12:16.33 CEO of Child Impact International. bleak. 00:12:31.25\00:12:33.48 Matthew 18:10 reminds us, 00:12:33.52\00:12:35.42 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, 00:12:35.45\00:12:38.49 for I tell you that there are angels in heaven 00:12:38.52\00:12:40.66 always see the face of my Father in heaven. 00:12:40.69\00:12:43.66 The word translated despise 00:12:43.69\00:12:45.83 literally means break further down. 00:12:45.86\00:12:49.40 These children need hope, 00:12:49.43\00:12:51.23 they need a path to a brighter future. 00:12:51.27\00:12:54.67 I want to encourage you to contact 00:12:54.70\00:12:56.40
