Child Impact International 00:00:02.50\00:00:03.97 is an organization that gives hope 00:00:04.00\00:00:06.13 and fosters permanent positive change 00:00:06.17\00:00:08.34 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:08.37\00:00:10.54 and their communities. 00:00:10.57\00:00:13.31 Countries include Zambia, Kenya, 00:00:13.34\00:00:17.45 India, Nepal, Bangladesh, 00:00:17.48\00:00:20.02 Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. 00:00:20.05\00:00:22.65 Child Impact's investment in the lives 00:00:22.68\00:00:24.55 of more than 3,500 children 00:00:24.59\00:00:26.89 continues to yield infinite returns. 00:00:26.92\00:00:29.76 Outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:29.79\00:00:32.16 to providing an education 00:00:32.19\00:00:33.63 and a home for deaf and blind children and orphans. 00:00:33.66\00:00:37.27 Above all, Child Impact's sponsors give hope to the ones 00:00:37.30\00:00:41.44 who need it the most. 00:00:41.47\00:00:42.80 The life of every human is precious, 00:00:58.22\00:01:00.69 especially children. 00:01:00.72\00:01:02.72 That is why it's hard to see so many suffer 00:01:02.76\00:01:05.19 because of human trafficking. 00:01:05.23\00:01:07.20 Thankfully, Operation Child Rescue 00:01:07.23\00:01:09.23 works to save these children and give them a bright future. 00:01:09.26\00:01:13.07 Another area that they work in is saving abandoned babies. 00:01:13.10\00:01:16.81 One of the key projects of Operation Child Rescue 00:01:16.84\00:01:20.98 is supporting the baby rescue center in Bangalore, India. 00:01:21.01\00:01:26.51 It's located about an hour out of the city of Bangalore 00:01:26.55\00:01:30.69 and it's run by an Adventist trust 00:01:30.72\00:01:33.46 called the Ashram Trust. 00:01:33.49\00:01:35.49 It's real touching 00:01:40.70\00:01:42.03 when you come to the baby rescue center. 00:01:42.06\00:01:44.33 And you actually see these children 00:01:44.37\00:01:46.27 that have been rescued. 00:01:46.30\00:01:47.84 All rescued from terrible situations, 00:01:47.87\00:01:50.71 left outside police stations, left outside hospitals, 00:01:50.74\00:01:54.84 even found on the side of the road. 00:01:54.88\00:01:57.28 This little boy here was found on the side of the road. 00:01:57.31\00:02:00.65 Operation Child Rescue is just so excited 00:02:00.68\00:02:04.19 that it can be involved in the real rescue 00:02:04.22\00:02:06.96 of these precious little babies. 00:02:06.99\00:02:10.99 Even though it's hard to imagine, 00:02:11.03\00:02:12.83 baby abandonment has been an issue in India 00:02:12.86\00:02:15.50 for many years. 00:02:15.53\00:02:17.33 Seeing the need an organization was formed 00:02:17.37\00:02:19.77 to save these helpless little ones. 00:02:19.80\00:02:24.67 This rescue program has been going on for the past 30 years 00:02:24.71\00:02:29.44 and hospital began 00:02:29.48\00:02:33.88 because of this rescue program. 00:02:33.92\00:02:35.88 As they went from the religious to do some primary health, 00:02:35.92\00:02:39.25 they found babies who are being killed 00:02:39.29\00:02:43.49 or not going by parents. 00:02:43.53\00:02:47.20 Parents do not want female child. 00:02:47.23\00:02:50.60 And that motivated the chairman to begin this program. 00:02:50.63\00:02:55.90 And as it said today we have a viable project going on 00:02:55.94\00:03:00.91 and we rescue a lot of babies through this project. 00:03:00.94\00:03:04.31 The Ashram Trust has a unique relationship 00:03:09.12\00:03:12.02 with the Indian government in that it has a license 00:03:12.05\00:03:15.76 to receive abandoned children. 00:03:15.79\00:03:18.86 It also then has a process, a legal process for adoption 00:03:18.89\00:03:24.33 or placing the children under an appropriate orphanage. 00:03:24.37\00:03:28.47 The Ashram Trust is very committed to finding proper 00:03:28.50\00:03:32.57 and the correct parents for children 00:03:32.61\00:03:35.98 that are abandoned. 00:03:36.01\00:03:37.35 These kids are left on the side of the road, 00:03:45.75\00:03:48.52 often outside a police station or often outside hospitals. 00:03:48.56\00:03:53.56 And this is a haven for them to be brought to. 00:03:53.60\00:03:56.70 There are many different reasons 00:04:00.84\00:04:02.24 why a parent would abandon their baby. 00:04:02.27\00:04:04.34 Unfortunately in India, 00:04:04.37\00:04:05.94 it is often because of the culture. 00:04:05.97\00:04:10.35 The cultural aspect is any girl child 00:04:10.38\00:04:12.71 is looked upon as a curse for the family 00:04:12.75\00:04:16.55 because of the dowry that has to be paid. 00:04:16.58\00:04:19.39 Huge expense that is there. 00:04:19.42\00:04:21.36 And so, every family in the villages want to get rid 00:04:21.39\00:04:24.83 of the girl child. 00:04:24.86\00:04:26.19 They like to have male child. 00:04:26.23\00:04:28.06 And most often, if there is more than one bear, 00:04:28.10\00:04:30.90 female child, then they tried to kill them very quietly 00:04:30.93\00:04:35.27 without even bringing it to the attention of anybody. 00:04:35.30\00:04:39.71 And this is where the government brought 00:04:39.74\00:04:41.61 in a scheme called the cradle, baby cradle program, 00:04:41.64\00:04:46.25 where if they don't want a baby, 00:04:46.28\00:04:48.42 they can come and leave it on the cradle and go 00:04:48.45\00:04:50.82 without anybody's notice. 00:04:50.85\00:04:52.52 And that is one main source 00:04:52.55\00:04:54.32 where we rescue the babies from. 00:04:54.36\00:04:58.23 The need is great. 00:04:58.26\00:04:59.96 According to UNICEF, India has 29.6 million orphaned 00:05:00.00\00:05:04.70 and abandoned children. 00:05:04.73\00:05:06.57 That is a staggering number. 00:05:06.60\00:05:08.64 It is almost a 10th of the amount 00:05:08.67\00:05:10.37 of people that are currently living in the United States. 00:05:10.41\00:05:14.14 What's even sadder is that most 00:05:14.18\00:05:15.84 of these children are not taken care of. 00:05:15.88\00:05:18.28 A study done by Childline India Foundation 00:05:18.31\00:05:21.05 discovered that approximately only 470,000 children 00:05:21.08\00:05:24.65 were in institutionalized care. 00:05:24.69\00:05:27.66 Even though the need is great, the baby rescue 00:05:27.69\00:05:30.53 is doing its part to lower those numbers. 00:05:30.56\00:05:33.03 And to ensure that babies that they rescue 00:05:33.06\00:05:35.56 end up in good homes. 00:05:35.60\00:05:37.13 Yeah, we rescue a child 00:05:37.17\00:05:38.83 and the child comes to us in whatever condition it is. 00:05:38.87\00:05:42.00 It may be sick. 00:05:42.04\00:05:43.37 It may be malnutrition, 00:05:43.41\00:05:45.24 or it may be a challenged child. 00:05:45.27\00:05:49.34 And we take the child 00:05:49.38\00:05:50.71 and we do a thorough medical checkup 00:05:50.75\00:05:52.51 with qualified doctors in the hospitals. 00:05:52.55\00:05:55.52 Then after that, the child is taken care here 00:05:55.55\00:05:57.82 in the home for almost two to two and a half months. 00:05:57.85\00:06:00.96 Within that period, there are the parents 00:06:00.99\00:06:04.76 who are looking for a child to be adopted as their own. 00:06:04.79\00:06:09.43 And they register on the website, 00:06:09.46\00:06:11.57 which is a common website. 00:06:11.60\00:06:14.84 And through that, the request comes, 00:06:14.87\00:06:17.64 then we match the children and the baby 00:06:17.67\00:06:21.88 and the parents. 00:06:21.91\00:06:24.31 And then we'd go through the process of checking 00:06:24.35\00:06:26.21 if the parents will take care of the baby to the last 00:06:26.25\00:06:29.88 and the purpose of which they are adopting these babies. 00:06:29.92\00:06:33.15 And then only we give this baby to them as adoption. 00:06:33.19\00:06:36.99 And they take care of that from that point. 00:06:37.03\00:06:38.83 So, within a matter of six months normally 00:06:38.86\00:06:41.70 every baby is placed in a home 00:06:41.73\00:06:44.23 where they could have a loving care of the parents. 00:06:44.27\00:06:48.67 It is very important that the babies 00:06:48.70\00:06:50.77 end up in a kind loving home. 00:06:50.81\00:06:53.21 If the baby rescue did not ensure the safety 00:06:53.24\00:06:55.51 of the home, there is a danger that the child 00:06:55.54\00:06:57.78 could be sold into slavery or abused. 00:06:57.81\00:07:01.45 But thanks to the baby rescue, 00:07:01.48\00:07:03.15 every infant that comes into their care 00:07:03.18\00:07:05.22 is given the best chance for a bright future. 00:07:05.25\00:07:10.39 The baby rescue receives 00:07:10.43\00:07:12.09 and cares for not just healthy babies, 00:07:12.13\00:07:14.66 but also babies that have a range 00:07:14.70\00:07:16.53 of different health issues. 00:07:16.56\00:07:18.40 Sometimes we have received one baby, 00:07:18.43\00:07:20.84 which was wrapped in a mat and thrown near a market. 00:07:20.87\00:07:24.14 And when the baby cries, 00:07:24.17\00:07:26.27 somebody passes by and sees that, 00:07:26.31\00:07:28.44 and then they call the police and then they call us 00:07:28.48\00:07:31.01 and we will pick it up. 00:07:31.05\00:07:32.65 Those are the worst scenarios, 00:07:32.68\00:07:34.02 and there are very 00:07:34.05\00:07:36.62 badly sick babies 00:07:36.65\00:07:41.32 also come to us. 00:07:41.36\00:07:42.76 We have had a baby which had a multiple organ failure, 00:07:42.79\00:07:47.73 which came here, which we had to take to the hospital 00:07:47.76\00:07:50.87 and spend a lot of money to take care of the baby. 00:07:50.90\00:07:53.64 Those are the very unusual things. 00:07:53.67\00:07:57.07 Children who are challenged physically, babies 00:07:57.11\00:07:59.67 who are challenged physically are brought to us. 00:07:59.71\00:08:02.28 We had a couple from Hosur itself 00:08:02.31\00:08:05.48 who normal couple 00:08:05.51\00:08:07.58 who had a baby with a very large head 00:08:07.62\00:08:11.59 and the parents could not take care of it. 00:08:11.62\00:08:13.56 So they came and gave it to us. 00:08:13.59\00:08:15.02 We took care of the baby for almost four or five months, 00:08:15.06\00:08:18.06 and then the baby could not survive, 00:08:18.09\00:08:20.26 but we gave a proper medical care 00:08:20.30\00:08:22.36 and attention love till the baby lasted with us. 00:08:22.40\00:08:26.07 These are some very unusual circumstances. 00:08:26.10\00:08:28.80 We have to spend a lot of time, 00:08:28.84\00:08:31.84 energy, money, and people who could really, 00:08:31.87\00:08:35.74 really show love and concern for these babies. 00:08:35.78\00:08:37.75 My name is Rashmi, I'm the manager of this home. 00:08:53.23\00:08:57.43 In this adoption unit we have eight children. 00:08:57.47\00:09:01.54 Recently we had a newborn baby. 00:09:01.57\00:09:05.07 That is Mithun. 00:09:05.11\00:09:07.48 He's a new born baby, 27 days old. 00:09:07.51\00:09:11.01 His mother is infected with the HIV. 00:09:11.05\00:09:14.48 So, they are not willing to take care of the baby. 00:09:14.52\00:09:17.49 They handed over to a government, 00:09:17.52\00:09:20.69 the government taking care of the baby. 00:09:20.72\00:09:22.42 After that, they are handed over to our home. 00:09:22.46\00:09:26.13 He's under observation. 00:09:26.16\00:09:28.16 Now he is taking Nevirapine syrup 1.5 ml every day morning. 00:09:28.20\00:09:33.94 After 45 days, we are having a one test. 00:09:33.97\00:09:36.77 He's, after treatment he will, 00:09:36.81\00:09:38.74 he's ready to give for adoption after test. 00:09:38.77\00:09:42.61 He's an abandoned baby, 00:09:42.64\00:09:44.05 the parents have thrown into the bushes 00:09:44.08\00:09:45.91 and around thorns. 00:09:45.95\00:09:47.95 After the government take him from the slum area, 00:09:47.98\00:09:50.99 they have given a treatment for one month. 00:09:51.02\00:09:53.09 After treatment, the government has handed 00:09:53.12\00:09:56.36 over to our care. 00:09:56.39\00:09:57.73 Child Impact through its project Operation 00:10:08.17\00:10:10.91 Child Rescue is very excited that it can help 00:10:10.94\00:10:14.08 the Ashram Trust. 00:10:14.11\00:10:15.81 And we help with supplying the basics for the babies 00:10:15.84\00:10:19.21 themselves, clothing, food, sanitary items, 00:10:19.25\00:10:23.75 and we've even bought some equipment for the home itself. 00:10:23.79\00:10:27.52 Babies are not able to choose 00:10:41.44\00:10:42.87 the place or parents that they are born to, 00:10:42.90\00:10:46.47 but we have a choice in helping to provide them with the food, 00:10:46.51\00:10:49.68 shelter, clothing, and love that they so desperately need. 00:10:49.71\00:10:54.52 Organizations like the baby rescue 00:10:54.55\00:10:56.55 give hope to the helpless, 00:10:56.58\00:10:58.92 but they can only do that because of the generous 00:10:58.95\00:11:01.16 donations from people like you. 00:11:01.19\00:11:03.66 Thank you for giving these little ones a chance at life. 00:11:03.69\00:11:06.96 Hi, I'm Jean Boonstra, 00:11:57.18\00:11:58.68 associate speaker at the Voice of Prophecy. 00:11:58.71\00:12:01.22 Now, I'm sure that you're aware of the global problem 00:12:01.25\00:12:04.42 of human trafficking. 00:12:04.45\00:12:06.02 And in places in the world like India and Nepal, 00:12:06.05\00:12:08.49 for example, this problem of human trafficking, 00:12:08.52\00:12:11.36 well, it's very real. 00:12:11.39\00:12:13.09 Not long ago, I was in India, 00:12:13.13\00:12:14.76 and I learned a little bit more about 00:12:14.80\00:12:16.63 what happens in that area. 00:12:16.67\00:12:18.90 Young girls are tricked, 00:12:18.93\00:12:20.50 usually girls who are disadvantaged, 00:12:20.54\00:12:22.90 maybe from a poor village or community, 00:12:22.94\00:12:25.51 and they're tricked into becoming part 00:12:25.54\00:12:27.64 of the sex industry and into prostitution. 00:12:27.68\00:12:30.95 It's extremely sad. 00:12:30.98\00:12:33.21 And you know, these young girls, 00:12:33.25\00:12:34.58 they're caught in a web 00:12:34.62\00:12:35.95 and a lifestyle 00:12:35.98\00:12:37.32 that they don't want to be a part of. 00:12:37.35\00:12:39.05 But once they're in it, 00:12:39.09\00:12:40.49 it's very difficult to find a way out. 00:12:40.52\00:12:43.73 When we think about the problem of human trafficking, 00:12:43.76\00:12:46.29 we often think about these girls, 00:12:46.33\00:12:48.50 but it often affects young boys as well. 00:12:48.53\00:12:51.43 Young boys in India, for example, 00:12:51.47\00:12:53.37 they're caught and they're used for child labor. 00:12:53.40\00:12:56.37 They're put into begging rings, 00:12:56.40\00:12:58.17 and they're often taken advantage of as well. 00:12:58.21\00:13:01.18 And it's not just these young girls 00:13:01.21\00:13:02.84 and boys either. 00:13:02.88\00:13:04.21 This affects infants as well. 00:13:04.25\00:13:06.41 Young babies are left on the side of the road 00:13:06.45\00:13:08.85 abandoned with no one to care about. 00:13:08.88\00:13:11.82 Child Impact International's Operation 00:13:11.85\00:13:14.29 Child Rescue addresses each of these three issues. 00:13:14.32\00:13:18.39 They have
