Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:02.46\00:00:05.20 that gives hope and fosters permanent 00:00:05.23\00:00:07.57 positive change in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:07.60\00:00:10.61 and their communities. 00:00:10.64\00:00:13.14 Countries include Zambia, Kenya, 00:00:13.17\00:00:17.38 India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. 00:00:17.41\00:00:22.68 Child Impact's investment in the lives 00:00:22.72\00:00:24.62 of more than 3,500 children 00:00:24.65\00:00:26.89 continues to yield infinite returns. 00:00:26.92\00:00:29.76 Outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:29.79\00:00:32.29 to providing an education and a home 00:00:32.33\00:00:34.50 for deaf and blind children, and orphans. 00:00:34.53\00:00:37.33 Above all, Child Impact's sponsors 00:00:37.37\00:00:40.04 give hope to the ones who need it the most. 00:00:40.07\00:00:42.97 India is a large country that is full of potential, 00:00:48.58\00:00:51.68 but that potential is held back by crippling poverty. 00:00:51.71\00:00:55.28 Asian Aid, which is now Child Impact International 00:00:55.32\00:00:58.39 started working in India 00:00:58.42\00:01:00.02 to address the very needs there. 00:01:00.06\00:01:03.26 Beginning with schools and orphanages, 00:01:03.29\00:01:05.56 the work quickly expanded with God's blessing 00:01:05.59\00:01:08.50 to schools for the blind and deaf 00:01:08.53\00:01:11.20 and the critical work of addressing 00:01:11.23\00:01:13.17 human trafficking through operation child rescue. 00:01:13.20\00:01:16.64 Many of the children that are trafficked 00:01:16.67\00:01:18.47 are orphans. 00:01:18.51\00:01:19.84 Seeing the great need that orphans have in India, 00:01:19.87\00:01:22.64 Child Impact began work on one of their biggest projects 00:01:22.68\00:01:25.71 at that time, Sunrise Home. 00:01:25.75\00:01:27.95 This orphanage is the first that Child Impact would fund 00:01:27.98\00:01:31.29 and run from construction to final operation. 00:01:31.32\00:01:34.32 Sunrise Home faced many challenges 00:01:38.89\00:01:40.90 before it became the success that it is today. 00:01:40.93\00:01:44.20 Starting from humble beginnings, 00:01:44.23\00:01:45.87 where the need strained the resources 00:01:45.90\00:01:47.87 to the breaking point, see how God used Child Impact 00:01:47.90\00:01:50.91 to meet the needs of Sunrise Home 00:01:50.94\00:01:52.74 and expand it to the point that it is today. 00:01:52.77\00:01:55.68 Well, I'm here at Sunrise Home in India, 00:01:59.21\00:02:01.78 and many of you have been involved 00:02:01.82\00:02:03.69 in the construction and raising funds 00:02:03.72\00:02:06.22 for this home, which now has over 120 children. 00:02:06.25\00:02:09.86 Could you imagine having 120 children? 00:02:09.89\00:02:12.93 Well Raj and Lalitha Varma do 00:02:12.96\00:02:15.50 and they are the leaders of this home. 00:02:15.53\00:02:17.77 And we're just so proud of you guys 00:02:17.80\00:02:20.20 and the work that you do 00:02:20.24\00:02:21.84 for the children that we have at Sunrise Home. 00:02:21.87\00:02:27.11 Sunrise Children's Home stands today 00:02:27.14\00:02:29.44 as a fully operating orphanage that provides food, 00:02:29.48\00:02:32.35 shelter and loving care to over 100 children. 00:02:32.38\00:02:36.89 But it did not start on this large of a scale. 00:02:36.92\00:02:41.32 Sunrise Home actually started 00:02:41.36\00:02:44.13 after Lalitha and Varma left the Elim Home. 00:02:44.16\00:02:49.73 They were very involved with Elim 00:02:49.76\00:02:51.97 and then they were 00:02:52.00\00:02:55.20 living up in the Bobbili area. 00:02:55.24\00:02:58.97 And, you know, they were experienced really 00:02:59.01\00:03:04.61 in helping orphans and in, 00:03:04.65\00:03:06.72 you know, running the Elim Home. 00:03:06.75\00:03:08.75 And so, we decided that that would be good 00:03:08.78\00:03:12.49 for them to start a new one up in the Bobbili area. 00:03:12.52\00:03:16.96 And so that is how they started it. 00:03:16.99\00:03:20.00 Starting out with just a one bedroom house 00:03:20.03\00:03:22.26 and three children in 2001, they quickly grew. 00:03:22.30\00:03:25.73 Local people noticed the love that Raj and Lalitha 00:03:25.77\00:03:28.57 had for the children in their care 00:03:28.60\00:03:30.77 and began to bring more children to them. 00:03:30.81\00:03:34.01 Soon, three children turned to seven 00:03:34.04\00:03:36.24 and then 17, they were running out of space. 00:03:36.28\00:03:40.62 Government officials, welfare committee members, 00:03:40.65\00:03:42.75 and pastors also sent children to them. 00:03:42.78\00:03:45.42 By 2004 in just three years, 00:03:45.45\00:03:48.06 the number of children had grown to 35 00:03:48.09\00:03:50.63 and by 2006, it had increased to 60. 00:03:50.66\00:03:55.03 As more children came the need for increased space, 00:03:55.06\00:03:58.27 pushed the Varmas to find a new place to rent 00:03:58.30\00:04:00.60 with more room. 00:04:00.64\00:04:02.87 Jim Rennie, the current CEO of Child Impact 00:04:02.90\00:04:05.17 visited Sunrise Home 00:04:05.21\00:04:06.54 and saw the great need that they had. 00:04:06.57\00:04:10.71 About 13 years ago 00:04:10.75\00:04:12.18 when I visited India for the first time 00:04:12.21\00:04:15.08 I was taken by car to the town of Bobbili, 00:04:15.12\00:04:18.45 which is in the state of Andhra Pradesh 00:04:18.49\00:04:20.79 in India. 00:04:20.82\00:04:22.66 I was taken to visit Sunrise Home, 00:04:22.69\00:04:25.29 which was a home with about 50 or 60 children in it. 00:04:25.33\00:04:29.26 And when I got there, I was nothing but shocked. 00:04:29.30\00:04:32.43 Here were these smiling, happy children, 00:04:32.47\00:04:35.17 but they were crammed into a building 00:04:35.20\00:04:37.51 that would barely house 20 children. 00:04:37.54\00:04:40.61 And in the evening I saw them lying on the floor, 00:04:40.64\00:04:44.31 uptight against each other sleeping. 00:04:44.35\00:04:47.72 And I just had to change things. 00:04:47.75\00:04:50.15 Having seen the need, Jim Rennie 00:04:50.19\00:04:51.92 started work right away to help them. 00:04:51.95\00:04:54.12 It took a while to find the right spot for the campus, 00:04:54.16\00:04:56.76 but they succeeded in finding a beautiful piece of property 00:04:56.79\00:04:59.49 located in a rural area about 20 minutes from Bobbili. 00:04:59.53\00:05:04.33 Construction soon began on the 10 acre piece of land. 00:05:04.37\00:05:07.57 Many volunteers helped with the construction. 00:05:07.60\00:05:12.77 The foundational mission of Sunrise Home 00:05:12.81\00:05:14.71 can best be shown by one of the first things 00:05:14.74\00:05:16.98 they did as a community on that property. 00:05:17.01\00:05:19.41 Many of the children gave their lives to God 00:05:19.45\00:05:22.12 by being baptized. 00:05:22.15\00:05:24.12 It's a great day that God had given me 00:05:24.15\00:05:27.29 because from 11 years, 00:05:27.32\00:05:29.82 I struggled a lot to take care of these children. 00:05:29.86\00:05:32.69 When they're small, I faced so many problems. 00:05:32.73\00:05:35.96 Now they are grown up. 00:05:36.00\00:05:37.67 So now we can see the world with lot of pleasures. 00:05:37.70\00:05:41.60 But because of that reason, I want to divert them 00:05:41.64\00:05:44.94 not to divert to the worldly pleasures, 00:05:44.97\00:05:46.68 but I want to divert them what is the Christianity 00:05:46.71\00:05:49.74 and why God came to this earth, 00:05:49.78\00:05:52.21 why He shed the blood for us. 00:05:52.25\00:05:54.18 So, because of that reason, 00:05:54.22\00:05:55.88 I told whatever I learned in my life 00:05:55.92\00:05:58.89 because my mother, she taught me 00:05:58.92\00:06:00.96 what is Christianity and she's the one 00:06:00.99\00:06:03.73 who took me to the church, and she's the one 00:06:03.76\00:06:06.13 taught me whatever she learned. 00:06:06.16\00:06:08.06 So whatever my mother taught me, 00:06:08.10\00:06:10.67 then I want to teach for these children also. 00:06:10.70\00:06:13.27 Under the supervision of Jim Rennie and Raj Varma 00:06:20.88\00:06:23.61 progress on building the new Sunrise Home 00:06:23.65\00:06:25.91 went quickly. 00:06:25.95\00:06:27.88 The buildings were constructed from 2011 to 2012, 00:06:27.92\00:06:31.92 with the new home being inaugurated 00:06:31.95\00:06:33.69 on November 4th, 2012. 00:06:33.72\00:06:36.93 The children were so excited to have more room 00:06:36.96\00:06:39.36 where they could run and play. 00:06:39.39\00:06:41.40 But most importantly, where they could learn skills 00:06:41.43\00:06:44.30 that would help them for the rest of their lives. 00:06:44.33\00:06:47.84 The first day I came very sad, 00:06:47.87\00:06:49.84 because I don't like this hostel, 00:06:49.87\00:06:51.61 but when I entered the hostel, I see friends and all the, 00:06:51.64\00:06:55.48 all them, they are very happy. 00:06:55.51\00:06:57.45 Then like this I also get very happy 00:06:57.48\00:07:00.25 and I started studying here, 00:07:00.28\00:07:02.95 and I felt very happy I came to the Sunrise Home. 00:07:02.98\00:07:05.52 Since its humble beginnings in a one-room house 00:07:16.16\00:07:18.53 with three children in 2001, 00:07:18.57\00:07:20.77 Sunrise Home has grown to now support 00:07:20.80\00:07:22.97 over a hundred children. 00:07:23.00\00:07:25.24 Each of these children have a bright future, 00:07:25.27\00:07:27.64 but not all are so lucky. 00:07:27.68\00:07:30.05 If the children are in the village, 00:07:30.08\00:07:31.81 they're like vagabonds 00:07:31.85\00:07:33.18 because parents, both the parents are dead. 00:07:33.21\00:07:36.38 If father dies, 00:07:36.42\00:07:37.75 mother will take away another man. 00:07:37.79\00:07:39.45 If a mother dies, father will marry another woman 00:07:39.49\00:07:42.92 and no one is there to take care of the children 00:07:42.96\00:07:45.69 and they are neglected. 00:07:45.73\00:07:47.40 And they are neglected 00:07:47.43\00:07:50.27 and they are becoming like vagabonds 00:07:50.30\00:07:52.50 going here and there. 00:07:52.53\00:07:53.94 Most of the time they'll spend their 00:07:53.97\00:07:56.27 time in going around the trees 00:07:56.30\00:08:00.01 here and there plucking all the fruits 00:08:00.04\00:08:02.48 and they don't know the manners 00:08:02.51\00:08:07.58 and they don't know how to live. 00:08:07.62\00:08:09.72 And they don't know how to talk. 00:08:09.75\00:08:11.29 They know only the language what they are learning 00:08:11.32\00:08:14.46 in the...from the parents. 00:08:14.49\00:08:16.62 So after they're coming from that place, 00:08:16.66\00:08:19.36 after they're coming here, they're learning 00:08:19.39\00:08:21.70 this local language and they're learning English, 00:08:21.73\00:08:24.27 they're learning manners and they're... 00:08:24.30\00:08:26.67 I'm molding their characters. 00:08:26.70\00:08:29.37 And the way of the living is entirely different 00:08:29.40\00:08:33.14 when they live at their home. 00:08:33.17\00:08:34.71 And now in Sunrise, 00:08:34.74\00:08:36.81 we have the living is entirely different 00:08:36.85\00:08:38.85 and they are learning so many things 00:08:38.88\00:08:40.68 after they come here to Sunrise. 00:08:40.72\00:08:44.92 While the need seems overwhelming, 00:08:44.95\00:08:46.96 every child that is taken off the streets 00:08:46.99\00:08:49.12 is another life saved. 00:08:49.16\00:08:50.93 And more than that is another future adult 00:08:50.96\00:08:53.60 like Pintu who grew in Sunrise's 00:08:53.63\00:08:56.03 sister orphanage, Sunshine. 00:08:56.06\00:08:58.40 He now works to help nurture and empower children. 00:08:58.43\00:09:01.80 Well, music, music is sign code of Sunshine. 00:09:01.84\00:09:06.74 Every kid who comes here that amazes me 00:09:06.78\00:09:09.84 is every one of us love music so passionate. 00:09:09.88\00:09:14.02 And for me, I go one step ahead. 00:09:14.05\00:09:16.18 I know, I just love music. 00:09:16.22\00:09:19.02 I'm so passionate about music and I have 00:09:19.05\00:09:22.82 taken special interest in conducting. 00:09:22.86\00:09:25.49 I love conducting and I love to teach children. 00:09:25.53\00:09:29.23 I have created my talent. 00:09:29.26\00:09:33.40 I have developed my talent in Spicer College, 00:09:33.44\00:09:36.37 where I had a choir of 80 children 00:09:36.40\00:09:38.67 and then Laurie where I used to go 00:09:38.71\00:09:41.94 part-time and help the children. 00:09:41.98\00:09:44.61 Sponsoring children 00:09:44.65\00:09:45.98 does more than just give them food, 00:09:46.01\00:09:47.45 shelter and an education. 00:09:47.48\00:09:49.52 It empowers them to effect real positive change 00:09:49.55\00:09:52.62 in their communities. 00:09:52.65\00:09:55.19 Sponsoring a child is an investment that pays off 00:09:55.22\00:09:58.16 not only in the short term, but also in the long-term 00:09:58.19\00:10:01.46 and most importantly, for eternity. 00:10:01.50\00:10:05.53 Child sponsorship has many facets. 00:10:05.57\00:10:08.57 We might sponsor a child in a school, 00:10:08.60\00:10:10.87 but that's not all 00:10:10.91\00:10:12.24 because what if the school has some needs? 00:10:12.27\00:10:14.18 What if they need a laboratory that needs upgrading? 00:10:14.21\00:10:16.44 What if they need the teaching aids, 00:10:16.48\00:10:18.15 they need upgrading. 00:10:18.18\00:10:19.51 So we also go in and look at the facilities, 00:10:19.55\00:10:22.32 the environment, the teaching qualifications, 00:10:22.35\00:10:26.09 and we want to build capacity, so that by doing that 00:10:26.12\00:10:29.46 our children benefit 00:10:29.49\00:10:30.99 and all of the children benefit. 00:10:31.03\00:10:34.36 So we are benefiting many more children. 00:10:34.40\00:10:36.80 Our investments are benefiting many more people. 00:10:36.83\00:10:40.77 It's a multiplying effect because we look at 00:10:40.80\00:10:43.30 how we can better influence 00:10:43.34\00:10:45.34 the whole community in the school. 00:10:45.37\00:10:48.38 So we ensure better education for our sponsored children 00:10:48.41\00:10:52.68 and everyone else, too. 00:10:52.71\00:10:55.38 Child Impact plans to expand Sunrise Home, 00:10:55.42\00:10:58.02 to work with Operation Child Rescue, 00:10:58.05\00:11:00.16 to provide a home for children who make their living 00:11:00.19\00:11:02.59 at the railroad stations and are begging on the streets. 00:11:02.62\00:11:06.03 They will be able to do this soon 00:11:06.06\00:11:08.06 since they are licensed by the government 00:11:08.10\00:11:09.93 and are able to work with local authorities. 00:11:09.96\00:11:12.10 If it wasn't for dedicated 00:11:16.54\00:11:17.94 self-sacrificing people like the Varmas 00:11:17.97\00:11:20.28 and all the faithful sponsors of Child Impact, 00:11:20.31\00:11:22.94 places like Sunrise Home would not exist. 00:11:22.98\00:11:27.65 It has come so far 00:11:27.68\00:11:29.02 from when it was just a one bedroom house 00:11:29.05\00:11:30.99 with three children to now being the home 00:11:31.02\00:11:33.22 to over a hundred children and many buildings. 00:11:33.25\00:11:36.56 I love going to Sunrise orphanage. 00:11:36.59\00:11:38.83 It really delights my soul to go there. 00:11:38.86\00:11:41.76 I was involved with Sunrise from day one. 00:11:41.80\00:11:44.97 And now when you walk through the gate, 00:11:45.00\00:11:47.10 you see happy children, you see healthy children. 00:11:47.14\00:11:50.57 And not only that, they love Jesus. 00:11:50.61\00:11:53.91 They're singing hymns, they're praying. 00:11:53.94\00:11:56.85 They're involved with the community and outreach. 00:11:56.88\00:12:00.18 And that's the difference about Sunrise. 00:12:00.22\00:12:03.32 There are other orphanages that care for the orphans. 00:12:03.35\00:12:06.76 There are other orphanages that make a difference, 00:12:06.79\00:12:09.96 but our children have an added spark to them 00:12:09.99\00:12:13.23 that they love Jesus, they're singing songs 00:12:13.26\00:12:16.26 and that they're involved in outreach 00:12:16.30\00:12:18.93 in their own simple way to children in the community. 00:12:18.97\00:12:22.50 It's just so exciting. 00:12:22.54\00:12:24.91 Each one of these lives is sacred 00:12:24.94\00:12:27.04 and has a purpose. 00:12:27.08\00:12:29.78 As sponsors and donors you enable these children 00:12:29.81\00:12:32.71 to develop into their full potential. 00:12:32.75\00:12:35.42 Thank you for your sacrificial investment. 00:12:35.45\00:12:38.25 It means so much. 00:12:38.29\00:12:40.26 Sponsoring children in activities like 00:12:52.63\00:12:57.51 these mission schools and opportunities 00:12:57.54\00:13:00.21 is a tremendous way to help form 00:13:00.24\00:13:03.58 the character of young people. 00:13:03.61\00:13:06.21 As they look to the future, they will never forget 00:13:06.25\00:13:09.72 their association in a Christian environment. 00:13:09.75\00:13:12.79 And by God's grace, many of them will become 00:13:12.82\00:13:15.79 members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:13:15.82\00:13:18.33 It is absolutely a powerful witness 00:13:18.36\00:13:21.93 to sponsor a child in Child Impact 00:13:21.96\00:13:25.40 and so many other organizations that help 00:13:25.43\00:13:29.74 young people to find Jesus. 00:13:29.77\00:13:32.97 Sponsoring a child, 00:13:33.01\00:13:34.48 not only has short term effects, 00:13:34.51\00:13:37.41 but it has a long-term effect. 00:13:37.45\00:13:40.48 Sponsoring a child is investing in the character 00:13:40.52\00:13:43.65 of a young person for eternity 00:13:43.69\00:13:46.35 that we're taping this right here 00:13:46.39\00:13:48.76 in Myanmar at the Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary. 00:13:48.79\00:13:53.29 And about one third of the students 00:13:53.33\00:13:55.93 or one quarter of the students 00:13:55.96\00:13:58.00 are being sponsored by Child Impact. 00:13:58.03\00:14:01.04 People who become workers in God's church, 00:14:01.07\00:14:04.94 people who make an impact in the community 00:14:04.97\00:14:07.98 have been people who have been sponsored. 00:14:08.01\00:14:10.85 Your sponsorship is absolutely an investment 00:14:10.88\00:14:14.92 in the future of the church.
