Hi there. 00:00:03.60\00:00:05.00 I'm Jim Rennie, 00:00:05.03\00:00:06.37 CEO of Child Impact International. 00:00:06.40\00:00:09.30 And I've got some exciting news 00:00:09.34\00:00:11.77 about our new project in Zambia. 00:00:11.81\00:00:14.64 It's a unique new mission school opportunity 00:00:14.68\00:00:18.01 that will expand the ministry 00:00:18.05\00:00:20.15 of our partner Riverside Farms 00:00:20.18\00:00:23.22 through an expanded 00:00:23.25\00:00:24.62 Child Impact sponsorship program. 00:00:24.65\00:00:28.76 The Riverside Farm partnership 00:00:28.79\00:00:31.13 with Child Impact International 00:00:31.16\00:00:33.50 allows for a great partnership 00:00:33.53\00:00:35.76 between two strong Adventist ministries. 00:00:35.80\00:00:40.14 Riverside Farm provides a structured 00:00:40.17\00:00:43.17 and well managed school project 00:00:43.20\00:00:46.01 with an Adventist education program, 00:00:46.04\00:00:48.74 while Child Impact provides poor children an education 00:00:48.78\00:00:53.82 and sharing key revenue for the new school. 00:00:53.85\00:00:57.95 The government have approved the school 00:00:57.99\00:01:00.42 and it will be run by Riverside Farm management 00:01:00.46\00:01:03.86 on the same basis that 00:01:03.89\00:01:05.49 they run the current primary school. 00:01:05.53\00:01:09.16 The school will cover grades 8-12. 00:01:09.20\00:01:12.93 The school will be a day school 00:01:12.97\00:01:15.17 with lunch supplied for the students. 00:01:15.20\00:01:17.91 The approximate capacity will be 40 students per class 00:01:17.94\00:01:22.28 with two groups per day 00:01:22.31\00:01:24.71 since the classes are by subject 00:01:24.75\00:01:27.38 and not by grade. 00:01:27.42\00:01:29.28 The school will be located 300 meters 00:01:29.32\00:01:32.45 from the current primary school. 00:01:32.49\00:01:34.89 Housing will be provided 00:01:34.92\00:01:36.59 for the headmaster and the deputy headmaster. 00:01:36.62\00:01:40.86 The need for education is strong, 00:01:40.90\00:01:43.53 and there is no Adventist secondary school 00:01:43.57\00:01:45.83 in the area. 00:01:45.87\00:01:47.90 The school will allow the 150 primary school students 00:01:47.94\00:01:52.31 to expand their education. 00:01:52.34\00:01:54.84 Within the attendance of 300 students in the future, 00:01:54.88\00:01:59.11 sponsorship will grow to 150 plus. 00:01:59.15\00:02:03.55 The school will give the local needy children 00:02:03.59\00:02:06.69 an Adventist education 00:02:06.72\00:02:08.86 and will be a key outreach for Riverside Farms ministry. 00:02:08.89\00:02:13.73 ASI and donors have provided 00:02:13.76\00:02:16.26 one day buildings for the schools, foundation 00:02:16.30\00:02:19.47 and construction of the base buildings. 00:02:19.50\00:02:22.27 Child Impact has been asked to complete the project 00:02:22.30\00:02:25.74 and furnish the school with furniture 00:02:25.77\00:02:28.94 and educational resources. 00:02:28.98\00:02:31.68 The need is $150,000. 00:02:31.71\00:02:35.52 We have some great news for this project. 00:02:35.55\00:02:38.32 We can double your donation. 00:02:38.35\00:02:41.06 Child Impact has matching funds for this project. 00:02:41.09\00:02:45.66 Each dollar given will be matched 00:02:45.69\00:02:48.13 with the dollar to $75,000. 00:02:48.16\00:02:51.77 For each dollar you give 00:02:51.80\00:02:53.60 it will be matched dollar for dollar. 00:02:53.64\00:02:56.81 Why should you support Child Impact 00:02:56.84\00:02:59.51 and Riverside Farms in this project? 00:02:59.54\00:03:02.71 Let me explain. 00:03:02.74\00:03:04.31 It expands the mission average of Riverside Farms in Zambia. 00:03:04.35\00:03:10.32 It widens Child Impact's mission in Zambia. 00:03:10.35\00:03:14.86 It will extend the sponsorship life 00:03:14.89\00:03:17.59 of the Child Impact children 00:03:17.63\00:03:19.89 already sponsored at the primary school. 00:03:19.93\00:03:23.03 It insures over 250 poor children 00:03:23.06\00:03:26.47 sponsored by Child Impact 00:03:26.50\00:03:28.74 will be given an Adventist education 00:03:28.77\00:03:31.71 through to grade 12 or higher. 00:03:31.74\00:03:34.34 It is valued for the donors funds, 00:03:34.38\00:03:36.95 as the school has a construction time 00:03:36.98\00:03:39.71 of less than 12 months. 00:03:39.75\00:03:42.38 There will be no cost overrun 00:03:42.42\00:03:44.55 as Child Impact and Riverside Farms 00:03:44.59\00:03:47.62 guarantee the project costs. 00:03:47.66\00:03:51.09 And there's a proven project management team 00:03:51.13\00:03:53.66 at Riverside Farms led by Alan Knowles, 00:03:53.70\00:03:57.37 who is well-known for construction 00:03:57.40\00:04:00.07 of this type of one day buildings. 00:04:00.10\00:04:03.54 Please go online right now 00:04:03.57\00:04:05.61 for full information or to donate. 00:04:05.64\00:04:09.38 Childimpact.org is our website. 00:04:09.41\00:04:12.38 That's childimpact.org. 00:04:12.41\00:04:14.88 Or call us at 423-9100-667. 00:04:14.92\00:04:21.39 That's 423-9100-667. 00:04:21.42\00:04:27.00 I really want to thank you 00:04:27.03\00:04:28.36 if you can join us for this exciting project. 00:04:28.40\00:04:31.23 Riverside Farms give us good management. 00:04:48.08\00:04:51.29 They operate a good school so that we can be confident 00:04:51.32\00:04:55.16 that our sponsorship on the ground 00:04:55.19\00:04:58.33 is very effective. 00:04:58.36\00:04:59.83 When I went to ASI, 00:04:59.86\00:05:01.53 I used to go by this Asian aid booth. 00:05:01.56\00:05:03.93 And I said, "Oh, wouldn't that be 00:05:03.97\00:05:05.80 something if this could come to Africa?" 00:05:05.83\00:05:08.44 It was just, 00:05:08.47\00:05:09.80 and I just would dream about it. 00:05:09.84\00:05:11.37 And then last year, 00:05:11.41\00:05:12.74 I stopped by and I talked to Jim Rennie. 00:05:12.77\00:05:14.71 And he says, "You know, 00:05:14.74\00:05:16.08 we're thinking of moving into Africa." 00:05:16.11\00:05:18.11 And you know, of course, it got me a little excited. 00:05:18.15\00:05:20.58 But I thought Africa, Africa is huge. 00:05:20.62\00:05:23.15 And so last spring, 00:05:23.18\00:05:24.79 when I heard that Jim Rennie with Child Impact 00:05:24.82\00:05:28.22 was coming not only to Africa, not only to Zambia, 00:05:28.26\00:05:31.89 but to Riverside Farms, I was so excited. 00:05:31.93\00:05:34.73 And so he came over and just it went from there. 00:05:34.76\00:05:38.00 When I visited Riverside Farms, I was really taken by the need, 00:05:40.27\00:05:46.17 I mean, we operate in six other countries, 00:05:46.21\00:05:49.38 and I've seen a lot of need. 00:05:49.41\00:05:51.05 But here I saw families that were 00:05:54.72\00:05:57.62 really, really struggling. 00:05:57.65\00:06:00.06 I was actually very touched 00:06:00.09\00:06:02.62 by the commitment of the parents 00:06:02.66\00:06:05.39 who are fighting a drought, a real drought. 00:06:05.43\00:06:08.23 And so not only did they ever a need for their children 00:06:08.26\00:06:12.67 to go to school for an education, 00:06:12.70\00:06:15.07 they actually have a need 00:06:15.10\00:06:16.44 for their children to have a meal every day. 00:06:16.47\00:06:19.54 And so I know that in the Zambian school, 00:06:19.57\00:06:23.61 the kids that are going there are of very genuine need. 00:06:23.65\00:06:28.98 A very few inches of rain in the last two years, 00:06:29.02\00:06:31.35 so they already had a drought. 00:06:31.39\00:06:32.72 And then we had almost a complete drought this year, 00:06:32.75\00:06:34.96 I'd say 20 years, 00:06:34.99\00:06:37.19 we haven't seen a drought this bad. 00:06:37.23\00:06:38.86 I mean, people are straight up starving to death. 00:06:38.89\00:06:40.86 And so when kids come to school, 00:06:40.90\00:06:42.93 one of the things that Farms done 00:06:42.96\00:06:44.43 is provided each of them with bananas, 00:06:44.47\00:06:46.63 because they grow bananas. 00:06:46.67\00:06:48.10 But that's not a complete meal. 00:06:48.14\00:06:49.47 And they need one 00:06:49.50\00:06:50.84 because they're not getting much. 00:06:50.87\00:06:52.21 And so being able to be involved with Child Impact, 00:06:52.24\00:06:53.98 or some of the hungry money project 00:06:54.01\00:06:56.01 that got involved, 00:06:56.04\00:06:57.71 they're going to be able to get a full, a full meal, one meal 00:06:57.75\00:07:00.85 when they're there. 00:07:00.88\00:07:02.22 And that's an impact that we couldn't do otherwise. 00:07:02.25\00:07:06.22 And just, it's gonna allow the school 00:07:06.25\00:07:08.19 to have better books than to have a uniform, 00:07:08.22\00:07:12.06 these kids might have more coming in rags, 00:07:12.09\00:07:14.93 I mean, just straight up. 00:07:14.96\00:07:16.30 And so that's something for them, 00:07:16.33\00:07:20.04 you know, they come to school, 00:07:20.07\00:07:21.44 they're all in uniform, 00:07:21.47\00:07:22.80 they're all equal in the ability to learn, 00:07:22.84\00:07:26.07 and have God impact their life that way. 00:07:26.11\00:07:28.54 The thing that impresses me with these children, 00:07:28.58\00:07:31.01 though, from a very young age, 00:07:31.05\00:07:33.48 they have to haul water, they have to carry firewood, 00:07:33.52\00:07:37.59 watch the goats, and the cows herd them. 00:07:37.62\00:07:41.39 And they have to do with these home chores 00:07:41.42\00:07:44.06 from when they're just young children. 00:07:44.09\00:07:46.59 There's not one family that we're sponsoring, 00:07:46.63\00:07:49.16 that has running water or electricity in their home. 00:07:49.20\00:07:52.80 It's very important for us to find a partner on the ground 00:07:52.83\00:07:57.77 that supports our mission. 00:07:57.81\00:08:00.88 And so they need to be 00:08:00.91\00:08:02.24 a strong Adventist mission partner, 00:08:02.28\00:08:05.11 and Riverside's the ideal 00:08:05.15\00:08:07.32 because not only do they have strong management, 00:08:07.35\00:08:10.45 they operate a well-run school, 00:08:10.49\00:08:14.12 and then in turn their job 00:08:14.16\00:08:17.26 is that they're serving the community. 00:08:17.29\00:08:19.86 And so Riverside for us 00:08:19.89\00:08:21.86 is a very unique partner in that they ensure 00:08:21.90\00:08:25.60 that the schools well run, but then in turn, 00:08:25.63\00:08:28.64 we're helping them 00:08:28.67\00:08:30.01 with their mission in the local community. 00:08:30.04\00:08:33.41 Well, I feel it's our responsibility 00:08:33.44\00:08:36.34 to help the areas near you. 00:08:36.38\00:08:39.48 As Christians, we need to look out for the widows, 00:08:39.51\00:08:42.28 the orphans, the people within our vicinities. 00:08:42.32\00:08:44.99 And I feel a real burden for that. 00:08:45.02\00:08:47.32 And so the thing is, once you start helping them 00:08:47.36\00:08:49.99 with this school, 00:08:50.03\00:08:51.36 it's going to open up a huge opportunity 00:08:51.39\00:08:54.96 for many more ways to help them 00:08:55.00\00:08:58.23 like you're going to find out that they need food, 00:08:58.27\00:09:01.20 they need many things in their homes 00:09:01.24\00:09:03.67 that we're going to, it's going to come to us 00:09:03.71\00:09:05.97 and we're going to have to be ready for this. 00:09:06.01\00:09:07.78 And so it's just a like little opening wedge, 00:09:07.81\00:09:10.75 and maybe that'll give us 00:09:10.78\00:09:12.11 an opportunity to share Jesus with them. 00:09:12.15\00:09:14.55 I feel like these children, 00:09:14.58\00:09:15.92 it's like a brand plucked out of the fire. 00:09:15.95\00:09:18.55 There was this one boy growing up, 00:09:18.59\00:09:20.52 his mother died. 00:09:20.56\00:09:22.12 And his father was a drunkard 00:09:22.16\00:09:23.99 and his older brothers all drank. 00:09:24.03\00:09:26.23 And he came to me one day 00:09:26.26\00:09:27.66 and asked if he could go to school. 00:09:27.70\00:09:29.70 And I, you know, I wasn't sure if I could take another one. 00:09:29.73\00:09:32.90 But I took him and I put him all the way through grade 12. 00:09:32.93\00:09:36.91 He didn't have any discipline in his life, 00:09:36.94\00:09:39.41 he didn't know about responsibility, 00:09:39.44\00:09:41.64 but he learned those things. 00:09:41.68\00:09:43.31 And then my husband put him to work 00:09:43.35\00:09:45.51 and working on the One-Day Church. 00:09:45.55\00:09:48.38 And then after that we were able to get funds 00:09:48.42\00:09:50.92 and we put him in college. 00:09:50.95\00:09:52.62 And now he's just completing his teaching, 00:09:52.65\00:09:56.06 and he's going to be a teacher. 00:09:56.09\00:09:57.89 And he's, and not only that, 00:09:57.93\00:09:59.76 I gave him Bible studies 00:09:59.79\00:10:01.13 while he was in school, and he was baptized. 00:10:01.16\00:10:03.60 And so I'm just so excited, 00:10:03.63\00:10:05.10 I feel like what would it become of him 00:10:05.13\00:10:07.14 if we hadn't reached out to him? 00:10:07.17\00:10:09.20 And not far from us is a big hydroelectric dam. 00:10:09.24\00:10:12.37 And pulled up, they're looking for someone 00:10:12.41\00:10:15.58 who had a meeting with a government official, 00:10:15.61\00:10:17.61 and the guy pulls where he says, 00:10:17.65\00:10:18.98 Hey, where's the bananas, and we're known for bananas, 00:10:19.01\00:10:20.52 because everybody likes nice bananas. 00:10:20.55\00:10:22.78 And I said, "Oh, we don't have any here with us today." 00:10:22.82\00:10:24.49 And he goes, you know. 00:10:24.52\00:10:25.85 And then he went on to tell us that, 00:10:25.89\00:10:27.22 that Alan Pauline, the ones who helped 00:10:27.26\00:10:30.03 with a school project had put him in school, 00:10:30.06\00:10:33.06 he'd gone through the school. 00:10:33.09\00:10:34.83 And he was now working for the power company, 00:10:34.86\00:10:38.10 generating the power for the whole country. 00:10:38.13\00:10:39.47 So it's cool to see that 00:10:39.50\00:10:43.14 full circle there. 00:10:43.17\00:10:44.87 I just see so many positive effects 00:10:44.91\00:10:47.18 of when these kids go to school. 00:10:47.21\00:10:48.88 So I'm so excited that 00:10:48.91\00:10:50.25 we're going to be able to even double in one time 00:10:50.28\00:10:53.42 through Child Impact the amount of children 00:10:53.45\00:10:55.55 that were going to put in school. 00:10:55.58\00:10:57.79 It was because they could see the educational impact 00:10:57.82\00:11:01.39 on the community because the parents 00:11:01.42\00:11:03.93 will come to work. 00:11:03.96\00:11:05.59 And those kids go to school, and then the people 00:11:05.63\00:11:08.06 who can't get an education, because they can't, 00:11:08.10\00:11:10.57 obviously we can't employ everyone. 00:11:10.60\00:11:13.34 If they're going to school as well, 00:11:13.37\00:11:15.34 more kids are getting impacted, 00:11:15.37\00:11:16.77 and they're going to secondary school, 00:11:16.81\00:11:18.14 many of them are going to college. 00:11:18.17\00:11:19.54 And they're becoming part of that, 00:11:19.57\00:11:21.28 part of the community. 00:11:21.31\00:11:22.64 Now there one of the big doctors in town 00:11:22.68\00:11:24.98 went to Loma Linda, 00:11:25.01\00:11:26.61 we put him all the way through, came back. 00:11:26.65\00:11:28.12 And now he runs the Adventist clinic, 00:11:28.15\00:11:29.48 a big part of running the Adventist clinic in town. 00:11:29.52\00:11:32.35 And, yeah, my kids, 00:11:32.39\00:11:34.56 that's where we take them, you know. 00:11:34.59\00:11:35.92 They have a major problem. 00:11:35.96\00:11:37.29 Or if I had, I had got sick, you're going to someone 00:11:37.33\00:11:40.30 who went to, went to the school right there. 00:11:40.33\00:11:42.36 So it's cool to see that... 00:11:42.40\00:11:45.80 that impact and that's from someone who, you know, 00:11:45.83\00:11:48.14 education changed your life. 00:11:48.17\00:11:49.70 Children grow up in the village with nothing to do. 00:11:49.74\00:11:53.94 And so their peers start drinking, 00:11:53.98\00:11:57.58 they start drinking, 00:11:57.61\00:11:59.11 and they just live this useless, listless life. 00:11:59.15\00:12:02.48 And the women will not desert their children, 00:12:02.52\00:12:05.45 and they will do whatever they can 00:12:05.49\00:12:07.42 to provide for them. 00:12:07.46\00:12:09.99 And so you can see 00:12:10.03\00:12:11.36 how education is going to make a big difference. 00:12:11.39\00:12:13.63 Because they'll have a purpose now. 00:12:13.66\00:12:15.86 They won't be just hanging out and doing nothing 00:12:15.90\00:12:18.13 and getting involved and drinking 00:12:18.17\00:12:20.30 and whatever other vices around. 00:12:20.34\00:12:22.94 The education, I mean, when you have people 00:12:22.97\00:12:24.61 who are completely without education, 00:12:24.64\00:12:29.14 what hope do they have. 00:12:29.18\00:12:30.51 I mean, they have no hope outside of, you know, 00:12:30.55\00:12:32.85 either become criminals, or try to survive on a smaller 00:12:32.88\00:12:36.82 and smaller share of maize that only grows, you know, 00:12:36.85\00:12:40.62 three out of five years successfully at any level 00:12:40.66\00:12:43.39 and even that successes, 00:12:43.43\00:12:45.06 they don't know much about farming, 00:12:45.09\00:12:46.46 they're good farmers and that they work hard, 00:12:46.49\00:12:48.33 but you know, growing corn, 00:12:48.36\00:12:51.23 or the maize that they use there, 00:12:51.27\00:12:52.77 I mean, you know, 00:12:52.80\00:12:54.14 you have the ability to get 12 tons a hectare, 00:12:54.17\00:12:56.27 maybe 13 tons of hectare, maybe even more. 00:12:56.30\00:12:59.37 And they get on average, you know, 2 tons a hectare. 00:12:59.41\00:13:04.88 So you have all this potential, but it's not happening 00:13:04.91\00:13:08.65 some practices. 00:13:08.68\00:13:10.02 So without that, you look at that, and you say, 00:13:10.05\00:13:12.15 "Oh, you know, they're not going to make it 00:13:12.19\00:13:14.32 without education." 00:13:14.36\00:13:18.39 We really appreciate that Craig and Pauline made themselves 00:13:18.43\00:13:22.30 available for our TV program. 00:13:22.33\00:13:25.17 You can see the confidence they have. 00:13:25.20\00:13:28.77 You can see the passion that they have 00:13:28.80\00:13:31.37 and for us to have them on the ground 00:13:31.41\00:13:33.94 involved in our program is very, very important. 00:13:33.98\00:13:38.78 And I just want to thank Riverside Farms management, 00:13:38.81\00:13:43.08 I want to thank Craig, 00:13:43.12\00:13:44.55 I want to thank Pauline and Alan 00:13:44.59\00:13:46.86 for what they've done in getting us established 00:13:46.89\00:13:50.09 on the ground in Zambia, 00:13:50.13\00:13:52.19 and our partnership with Riverside Farms. 00:13:52.23\00:13:55.56 So there's a number of ways that you can help us in Zambia. 00:13:55.60\00:13:59.70 First of all, obviously, you can sponsor a child, 00:13:59.73\00:14:02.77 and for just $25 a month, 00:14:02.80\00:14:05.17 you'll be sponsoring a day student. 00:14:05.21\00:14:07.58 They come from a nearby village, 00:14:07.61\00:14:09.91 and we give them a lunch every day, a uniform, 00:14:09.94\00:14:14.72 we supply shoes, and they get a total education. 00:14:14.75\00:14:19.35 So for just $25 a month, you can sponsor a child. 00:14:19.39\00:14:24.09 You may just want to sponsor a child for a year. 00:14:24.13\00:14:27.00 And so you may want to send us 12 months sponsorship at once. 00:14:27.03\00:14:31.63 And we're very, very happy with that. 00:14:31.67\00:14:34.10 But if you don't want to sponsor a child, 00:14:34.14\00:14:36.30 we understand that 00:14:36.34\00:14:37.84 and so you could send a donation 00:14:37.87\00:14:40.38 to our unsponsored child fund 00:14:40.41\00:14:43.35 because we always have children that are unsponsored. 00:14:43.38\00:14:47.25 Or simply give us your prayers so that we can move forward 00:14:47.28\00:14:51.39 and make a difference. 00:14:51.42\00:14:52.75
