Yes. 00:05:27.09\00:05:30.33 So being on the board, 00:05:30.36\00:05:33.90 and then getting to see some of the projects firsthand 00:05:33.93\00:05:35.76 to possibly partner student missions 00:05:35.80\00:05:37.43 with it is one thing, 00:05:37.47\00:05:38.80 but then just seeing the kids and the work 00:05:38.83\00:05:40.47 that has been done here. 00:05:40.50\00:05:41.84 Is it all pretty? Of course, we know it's not. 00:05:41.87\00:05:44.01 But, what else? What? 00:05:44.04\00:05:46.14 I mean, when you look at these kids, 00:05:46.17\00:05:48.38 you look at a kid at the blind school. 00:05:48.41\00:05:50.35 You look at a kid at the deaf school 00:05:50.38\00:05:51.71 and you wonder, 00:05:51.75\00:05:53.85 "Okay, maybe it's not perfect." 00:05:53.88\00:05:56.02 Their life isn't perfect at one of these institutions. 00:05:56.05\00:05:59.69 But what's the alternative? 00:05:59.72\00:06:01.69 And so, we give them an opportunity 00:06:01.72\00:06:05.13 that they would not get anywhere else in the world. 00:06:05.16\00:06:07.63 And that's why I think this organization is awesome. 00:06:07.66\00:06:10.30 I think this organization has a great future ahead of it 00:06:10.33\00:06:13.64 and should continue its work in a lot of these places. 00:06:13.67\00:06:19.41 The stories are always touching. 00:06:19.44\00:06:21.54 And it's amazing to see just how hard it can be 00:06:21.58\00:06:24.35 for these parents to provide a future 00:06:24.38\00:06:26.41 for their children, 00:06:26.45\00:06:27.78 not to mention how much a child has to go through 00:06:27.82\00:06:30.32 in order to get a fighting chance 00:06:30.35\00:06:32.35 in a poor country like Bangladesh. 00:06:32.39\00:06:36.83 One of these children shared his story with us. 00:06:36.86\00:06:40.36 It was touching to see what he had to go through. 00:06:40.40\00:06:45.00 Tell me what is your name? 00:06:45.03\00:06:46.80 My name is Hidoi Hazdak. 00:06:46.84\00:06:48.40 Okay. 00:06:48.44\00:06:49.77 And so tell me about your family? 00:06:49.80\00:06:52.37 What do you like doing? 00:08:19.66\00:08:21.10 Gardening, good on you. 00:08:24.63\00:08:26.90 And what's he want to do when he grows up? 00:08:26.94\00:08:31.41 Engineer. 00:08:31.44\00:08:33.01 Well, these are pretty touching stories. 00:08:33.04\00:08:36.58 I mean, when you hear this one, 00:08:36.61\00:08:39.45 they just seem to keep coming. 00:08:39.48\00:08:41.52 And it really, really touches you 00:08:41.55\00:08:46.45 to hear the struggle that families are having 00:08:46.49\00:08:50.39 in a country like Bangladesh and it overwhelms you a bit. 00:08:50.43\00:08:56.56 But it also is just such a delight 00:08:56.60\00:09:00.20 that a sponsor can help a young man 00:09:00.24\00:09:02.74 like this guy here. 00:09:02.77\00:09:04.71 Unfortunately, 00:09:04.74\00:09:06.07 many children go through similar experiences. 00:09:06.11\00:09:09.81 It's easy to help and not realize 00:09:09.84\00:09:11.71 that each one of these children have a story 00:09:11.75\00:09:14.12 and a successful journey 00:09:14.15\00:09:15.55 because of the help they are getting. 00:09:15.58\00:09:19.22 But there are so many children out there who need help 00:09:19.25\00:09:22.39 and are wanting to have that same chance. 00:09:22.42\00:09:25.76 It's with the help of workers in these countries 00:09:25.79\00:09:28.10 and the sponsorship that you provide for us 00:09:28.13\00:09:30.67 that makes these opportunities possible. 00:09:30.70\00:09:34.30 These workers help to make sure that the campuses run smoothly, 00:09:34.34\00:09:38.07 and are a great environment for the children 00:09:38.11\00:09:39.91 to not only study, but grow up in. 00:09:39.94\00:09:42.54 This is something that Christian 00:09:42.58\00:09:44.08 has experienced firsthand. 00:09:44.11\00:09:46.21 So when you were in India, 00:09:46.25\00:09:47.58 one of our largest schools in India is Jeypore. 00:09:47.62\00:09:50.42 Yeah, Jeypore. 00:09:50.45\00:09:51.79 It's right up on the tribal area. 00:09:51.82\00:09:53.79 It's a very unique school. 00:09:53.82\00:09:55.49 It was built by the McNeilus Foundation, 00:09:55.52\00:09:58.96 like the school here. 00:09:58.99\00:10:00.83 Just tell me your impressions of Jeypore? 00:10:00.86\00:10:03.57 Yeah, so having lived in India for a year, 00:10:03.60\00:10:06.23 I got to see a lot of different institutions 00:10:06.27\00:10:09.87 where the church is doing ministry. 00:10:09.90\00:10:13.64 And I would say Jeypore 00:10:13.68\00:10:15.54 was probably the most impressive one 00:10:15.58\00:10:17.08 that I have seen. 00:10:17.11\00:10:18.98 Sunrise orphanage, again, phenomenal institution, 00:10:19.01\00:10:22.62 just very well structured, very well organized, 00:10:22.65\00:10:25.45 providing a service that not only is spiritual, 00:10:25.49\00:10:28.32 but it's also very professional. 00:10:28.36\00:10:30.46 And I was floored. 00:10:30.49\00:10:32.86 And Jeypore has tribal children. 00:10:32.89\00:10:35.93 We don't appreciate the backgrounds 00:10:35.96\00:10:38.50 they're coming from. 00:10:38.53\00:10:40.54 I got one day the opportunity to go out into the villages 00:10:40.57\00:10:44.87 and just see where they were coming from. 00:10:44.91\00:10:47.28 So Jeypore is fulfilling a very important role. 00:10:47.31\00:10:52.21 And then also you went to the blind school. 00:10:52.25\00:10:55.18 Yeah, I went to the blind school. 00:10:55.22\00:10:56.55 I played volleyball with some of the children there 00:10:56.58\00:10:58.92 as Varma may have sent you some pictures of them. 00:10:58.95\00:11:02.32 Again, not perfect, 00:11:02.36\00:11:04.56 but an incredible opportunity for students 00:11:04.59\00:11:06.83 who otherwise would have a really rough alternative 00:11:06.86\00:11:09.63 and was impressed with that institution. 00:11:09.66\00:11:12.77 I think there's a lot of progress 00:11:12.80\00:11:15.10 that can be had there. 00:11:15.14\00:11:17.47 But the work that they're doing for the kids 00:11:17.51\00:11:19.17 that are currently there is, is incredible. 00:11:19.21\00:11:21.01 Right. 00:11:21.04\00:11:22.38 So you see sponsorship as being an effective tool? 00:11:22.41\00:11:26.82 Yeah, I think it's very effective. 00:11:26.85\00:11:29.18 It's empowering, 00:11:29.22\00:11:31.32 your return on investment 00:11:31.35\00:11:32.69 is well beyond what you're paying in dollars. 00:11:32.72\00:11:35.62 And if a donor could come here, 00:11:35.66\00:11:39.03 and they could see what their few dollars 00:11:39.06\00:11:43.93 are doing for somebody's life. 00:11:43.97\00:11:45.50 I mean, they're not just doing it 00:11:45.53\00:11:46.87 for their education, 00:11:46.90\00:11:48.24 but they're doing it for their life, 00:11:48.27\00:11:49.60 and not even just for their present 00:11:49.64\00:11:51.01 but also for their future. 00:11:51.04\00:11:52.47 I think it's probably the best ROI 00:11:52.51\00:11:54.48 you could ever get. 00:11:54.51\00:11:55.84 Yeah. 00:11:55.88\00:11:57.21 And I think that sums up very clearly 00:11:57.25\00:11:59.41 what we've discovered this week, 00:11:59.45\00:12:01.72 as we've been here filming 00:12:01.75\00:12:03.92 is the bigger and wider impact its having. 00:12:03.95\00:12:07.42 We say sponsor a child and we think classroom, 00:12:07.46\00:12:10.99 we think education. 00:12:11.03\00:12:12.86 But it's become very apparent to us this week, 00:12:12.89\00:12:17.07 the wider impact on the family. 00:12:17.10\00:12:19.90 And, so it's been inspiring, 00:12:19.93\00:12:23.87 and we now have a stronger understanding 00:12:23.91\00:12:28.01 of the change that we're actually making. 00:12:28.04\00:12:30.85 Well, thanks, Christian, for being with us today. 00:12:30.88\00:12:33.42 Thanks for having me. 00:12:33.45\00:12:34.98 The money given in sponsorship 00:12:35.02\00:12:36.55 exponentially grows 00:12:36.58\00:12:37.92 beyond just the child being helped. 00:12:37.95\00:12:40.36 The parents are able to better take care 00:12:40.39\00:12:42.19 of their other children. 00:12:42.22\00:12:43.69 The sponsor child then grows up to become a skilled worker, 00:12:43.73\00:12:47.13 which helps not only themselves, 00:12:47.16\00:12:49.30 but also their family, community, and country. 00:12:49.33\00:12:54.24 Helping the next generation become educated 00:12:54.27\00:12:56.91 is the best way to ensure lasting change 00:12:56.94\00:12:59.41 in poor countries 00:12:59.44\00:13:00.81 because they no longer have to seek 00:13:00.84\00:13:02.84 outside aid, 00:13:02.88\00:13:04.21 but are able to take care of themselves 00:13:04.25\00:13:06.01 and those around them. 00:13:06.05\00:13:07.62 Hidoi is one of many children 00:13:07.65\00:13:09.35 who are having a second chance at a better future. 00:13:09.38\00:13:12.82 These children are also receiving 00:13:12.85\00:13:14.69 the message of God as a hope for their eternal future 00:13:14.72\00:13:18.39 which is the most valuable investment of all. 00:13:18.43\00:13:21.30
