Child Impact International is an organization giving hope. 00:00:07.27\00:00:10.97 Previously called Asian Aid, 00:00:11.01\00:00:13.17 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.21\00:00:15.84 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:15.88\00:00:18.18 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:18.21\00:00:20.18 and their communities. 00:00:20.22\00:00:21.82 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.85\00:00:24.35 in the lives of children and those who are in need. 00:00:24.39\00:00:27.26 Serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, 00:00:27.29\00:00:30.46 Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:00:30.49\00:00:32.23 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:32.26\00:00:34.63 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.66\00:00:36.13 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:00:36.16\00:00:39.03 and their investment has proven infinite returns, 00:00:39.07\00:00:41.97 driven by the dedication 00:00:42.00\00:00:43.41 to helping those who have the least. 00:00:43.44\00:00:45.61 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.64\00:00:47.64 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.68\00:00:49.81 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:49.84\00:00:52.31 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.35\00:00:54.38 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:54.42\00:00:57.55 to providing an education for orphans, 00:00:57.59\00:00:59.85 deaf and the blind children, giving them a sense of place, 00:00:59.89\00:01:03.79 a home, but above all, 00:01:03.83\00:01:05.56 Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:05.59\00:01:08.56 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.60\00:01:11.83 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:11.87\00:01:14.60 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:14.64\00:01:16.40 Bangladesh is a very small country. 00:01:27.95\00:01:31.12 It is 4.6 times smaller than Texas. 00:01:31.15\00:01:34.69 Even though it is small, 00:01:34.72\00:01:36.06 the population is almost half that of the United States 00:01:36.09\00:01:39.03 at 168 million. 00:01:39.06\00:01:42.26 Since Bangladesh is very small, 00:01:42.30\00:01:44.13 there are barely enough resources 00:01:44.17\00:01:46.03 to support that amount of people. 00:01:46.07\00:01:48.80 That creates a lot of problems for a country like theirs. 00:01:48.84\00:01:52.47 Poverty is almost inevitable. 00:01:52.51\00:01:55.24 The resources are scarce 00:01:55.28\00:01:56.78 and enforcing laws is difficult. 00:01:56.81\00:01:59.51 Bangladesh has improved over the years 00:01:59.55\00:02:01.38 like making it free and mandatory 00:02:01.42\00:02:03.22 for children to go to school. 00:02:03.25\00:02:05.22 But even that positive change introduces problems. 00:02:05.25\00:02:10.23 Due to it being free, the education isn't as good. 00:02:10.26\00:02:13.76 Also, the students 00:02:13.80\00:02:15.13 who are in the greatest need of education 00:02:15.16\00:02:16.87 don't have money for food. 00:02:16.90\00:02:19.97 As a result, they can't go to school, 00:02:20.00\00:02:22.30 since parents put them to work 00:02:22.34\00:02:23.74 in order to make money to survive. 00:02:23.77\00:02:26.37 This is where the great work of sponsorship 00:02:26.41\00:02:28.68 can be seen, 00:02:28.71\00:02:30.05 giving the children a chance at a better life. 00:02:30.08\00:02:32.68 Today's episode will show 00:02:37.29\00:02:38.62 how sponsorship not only helps to keep the children in school 00:02:38.65\00:02:41.76 and provide them with a brighter future, 00:02:41.79\00:02:43.83 but also their perspective 00:02:43.86\00:02:45.39 on what it's like to be sponsored. 00:02:45.43\00:02:46.93 Sponsorship is vital for helping kids 00:02:50.87\00:02:53.10 in countries like Bangladesh. 00:02:53.13\00:02:55.44 The amount of help they get is beyond our understanding. 00:02:55.47\00:02:59.07 Poverty is all they know. 00:02:59.11\00:03:01.48 Parents have to decide to put their kids to work 00:03:01.51\00:03:03.55 instead of going to school 00:03:03.58\00:03:04.91 because the alternative is to starve. 00:03:04.95\00:03:07.02 This is unheard of for us. 00:03:07.05\00:03:09.25 For them, surviving is a daily effort. 00:03:09.28\00:03:12.22 So it's understandable 00:03:12.25\00:03:13.59 why a lot of children end up working. 00:03:13.62\00:03:16.09 The amount of imploring that is seen by Child Impact 00:03:16.12\00:03:18.59 has proven just how much 00:03:18.63\00:03:20.06 the parents don't want a future of poverty for their children. 00:03:20.10\00:03:24.33 So, I enjoy this work because when I see around, 00:03:24.37\00:03:30.51 I visit around villages. 00:03:30.54\00:03:33.34 So, I know that people and they are needy, 00:03:33.38\00:03:37.01 and they sometimes they approach to me 00:03:37.05\00:03:39.75 and they cry to me, and they ask for sponsorship, 00:03:39.78\00:03:44.39 so I am interested to work behind them 00:03:44.42\00:03:47.99 so that I can do something for them. 00:03:48.02\00:03:50.43 With each sponsorship it's one more child 00:03:50.46\00:03:52.93 that will not need to experience the hardship 00:03:52.96\00:03:55.16 that is very common in Bangladesh. 00:03:55.20\00:03:57.60 As stated before, 00:03:57.63\00:03:59.07 more than half the population is in poverty. 00:03:59.10\00:04:02.10 That means any change or drop at work or food 00:04:02.14\00:04:05.07 makes it even harder for a child to go to school. 00:04:05.11\00:04:07.88 You can see former generations of sponsored children 00:04:07.91\00:04:10.85 feeling blessed as well as paying it forward 00:04:10.88\00:04:13.75 to help the next generation. 00:04:13.78\00:04:15.88 If I'm not studied here, maybe I will be lost. 00:04:15.92\00:04:22.76 Maybe my father and my mother 00:04:22.79\00:04:24.76 cannot provide me the good education. 00:04:24.79\00:04:27.26 Maybe they cannot provide me a good food, 00:04:27.30\00:04:29.46 good shelter and it is the basic needs. 00:04:29.50\00:04:32.50 They cannot provide me. 00:04:32.53\00:04:33.87 Even I am, I was a student over here, 00:04:33.90\00:04:38.47 that time also they cannot, 00:04:38.51\00:04:39.91 they didn't provide me the good things, 00:04:39.94\00:04:43.48 the basic things. 00:04:43.51\00:04:47.42 It is... 00:04:47.45\00:04:49.62 For me, it is difficult to explain 00:04:49.65\00:04:51.19 because this is my birthplace. 00:04:51.22\00:04:53.05 And I love that school from my heart. 00:04:53.09\00:04:57.13 And actually, I love school. 00:04:57.16\00:05:00.00 When I studied the college, 00:05:00.03\00:05:02.86 that time I had a dream that I will work at KMMS. 00:05:02.90\00:05:08.67 Why did you choose to do this work as your work? 00:05:08.70\00:05:11.17 Yeah. 00:05:11.21\00:05:12.54 Because when I came to this boarding school 00:05:12.57\00:05:15.91 first time in 1990, so I had sponsorship support, 00:05:15.94\00:05:20.68 because my family background is not good. 00:05:20.72\00:05:23.25 So, as you know that boarding school fees 00:05:23.28\00:05:27.49 is little higher than day school. 00:05:27.52\00:05:30.46 So, I know that this studying 00:05:30.49\00:05:34.93 in boarding school is hard. 00:05:34.96\00:05:37.80 And my parents could not pay my school fees. 00:05:37.83\00:05:41.24 So, if I had not this sponsorship support, 00:05:41.27\00:05:46.68 so I could not also study and I could not get education. 00:05:46.71\00:05:51.21 We were able to see first-hand 00:05:51.25\00:05:53.15 how sponsorship feels for these children, 00:05:53.18\00:05:55.65 and what their lives are like 00:05:55.68\00:05:57.12 with the help of their sponsors. 00:05:57.15\00:05:59.65 We got to interview many of them. 00:05:59.69\00:06:01.79 But it was only a few 00:06:01.82\00:06:03.16 in comparison to the amount of sponsored students at KMMS. 00:06:03.19\00:06:08.26 We have around 400 students at present. 00:06:08.30\00:06:11.67 These students come 00:06:11.70\00:06:13.03 from all districts of Bangladesh. 00:06:13.07\00:06:15.20 And in Bangladesh we have 00:06:15.24\00:06:17.77 around 64 districts. 00:06:17.81\00:06:22.68 Many students are coming from Hill Tracts. 00:06:22.71\00:06:25.85 Many are coming from north, south, east and west. 00:06:25.88\00:06:29.88 And we have more than 10 ethnic groups, 00:06:29.92\00:06:33.25 this school 00:06:33.29\00:06:34.62 and this school is open for all people. 00:06:34.66\00:06:37.13 Even we have students from all churches, 00:06:37.16\00:06:40.70 Catholic, Baptist, Oxford, Methodist, 00:06:40.73\00:06:43.93 Adventist, 00:06:43.97\00:06:45.33 we have also students from many Hindu backgrounds, 00:06:45.37\00:06:49.37 and we have very few students from Muslim background. 00:06:49.40\00:06:52.91 Supporting us 00:06:52.94\00:06:54.44 and majority students have sponsorship 00:06:54.48\00:06:57.25 and there are some students that do not have sponsorship. 00:06:57.28\00:07:00.82 But whenever the students come, 00:07:00.85\00:07:03.02 they, we need to provide them education, 00:07:03.05\00:07:05.52 we need to provide them food, 00:07:05.55\00:07:07.42 we need to provide them accommodation. 00:07:07.46\00:07:09.96 But even the students sometimes they don't pay 00:07:09.99\00:07:12.99 but still school bear their expenses, 00:07:13.03\00:07:17.70 and we don't send them home. 00:07:17.73\00:07:20.37 And some student they pay some but some they cannot pay. 00:07:20.40\00:07:24.44 And the school also face a lot of challenges, 00:07:24.47\00:07:27.78 but in spite of all this problem 00:07:27.81\00:07:30.28 God blessed us to run the school 00:07:30.31\00:07:32.51 in spite of many challenges and strategies. 00:07:32.55\00:07:37.15 The school has sponsorship as part of the day's events. 00:07:37.19\00:07:40.19 The students even have time 00:07:40.22\00:07:41.56 for writing letters to their sponsors. 00:07:41.59\00:07:44.56 It is a special admiration 00:07:44.59\00:07:46.29 and appreciation that these students have 00:07:46.33\00:07:48.50 for their position of being sponsored. 00:07:48.53\00:07:50.97 They honor it 00:07:51.00\00:07:52.33 and have a very respectful approach 00:07:52.37\00:07:54.07 to how they view sponsorship. 00:07:54.10\00:07:56.24 They resolve to make it not be in vain. 00:07:56.27\00:07:59.04 The grades are better than the other school, 00:07:59.07\00:08:01.11 and the students take it a lot more seriously 00:08:01.14\00:08:03.01 than the students at other schools. 00:08:03.04\00:08:06.05 KMMS also focuses on giving the students 00:08:06.08\00:08:08.82 a time for studies 00:08:08.85\00:08:10.19 in order to give them the best chance 00:08:10.22\00:08:12.05 at future opportunities. 00:08:12.09\00:08:13.89 From an external point of view, 00:08:13.92\00:08:15.52 it might seem like they don't have 00:08:15.56\00:08:16.99 a life full of joy and health. 00:08:17.03\00:08:18.83 But when you are there, 00:08:18.86\00:08:20.20 and you see things from their perspective, 00:08:20.23\00:08:21.96 it's understandable 00:08:22.00\00:08:23.33 why so many have a love for the school. 00:08:23.37\00:08:26.80 When I come in the school, we, I have a sponsor, 00:08:26.84\00:08:31.84 so that this sponsor, 00:08:31.87\00:08:36.61 this sponsor helped to study regularly. 00:08:36.64\00:08:41.58 And also, I feel proud of him. 00:08:41.62\00:08:45.95 So, I also thank him to give this a nice privilege. 00:08:45.99\00:08:52.86 I also give 00:08:57.73\00:09:01.40 my heartful love for him. 00:09:01.44\00:09:06.11 Even years after they leave, 00:09:06.14\00:09:07.88 they value the opportunities that were given to them. 00:09:07.91\00:09:10.41 When I was a student over here, that time I thought, 00:09:13.42\00:09:19.15 oh, if I saw my sponsor, 00:09:19.19\00:09:23.43 if I visited my sponsor or if I hug him, 00:09:23.46\00:09:27.10 then I will feel better. 00:09:27.13\00:09:29.26 But I had no privilege to saw him, 00:09:29.30\00:09:33.64 even I don't know, now, 00:09:33.67\00:09:36.04 I don't know who is she or who is he. 00:09:36.07\00:09:39.47 I don't know who is the person who helping me. 00:09:39.51\00:09:43.21 But I am very thankful to him or her 00:09:43.24\00:09:46.45 that he or she supported me from my childhood 00:09:46.48\00:09:50.49 to till my college level. 00:09:50.52\00:09:53.89 For their love 00:09:53.92\00:09:55.26 and for their financial support, 00:09:55.29\00:09:56.99 I'm able to complete my college 00:09:57.03\00:09:59.19 and I'm able to reach my goal. 00:09:59.23\00:10:03.40 It's beautiful to see the impact 00:10:03.43\00:10:04.93 and the effects that sponsorship is having. 00:10:04.97\00:10:07.14 Knowing that even one person being helped 00:10:07.17\00:10:09.40 completely changes their life and future. 00:10:09.44\00:10:12.91 Walking around and seeing children 00:10:12.94\00:10:14.74 have a childhood, 00:10:14.78\00:10:16.11 and be able to have friendships and enjoyment. 00:10:16.14\00:10:18.25 Every sponsored child has a story 00:10:21.38\00:10:23.99 and a challenge that they had to face 00:10:24.02\00:10:25.79 while making it here. 00:10:25.82\00:10:27.49 But they didn't give up 00:10:27.52\00:10:29.39 and still have smiles on their faces. 00:10:29.42\00:10:32.09 They are like many others doing all they can. 00:10:32.13\00:10:35.56 Likewise, your sponsorships 00:10:35.60\00:10:37.47 are giving their efforts a fighting chance, 00:10:37.50\00:10:40.30 both in their spiritual lives and their physical ones. 00:10:40.34\00:10:44.04 Thank you to all the sponsors who are helping, 00:10:44.07\00:10:46.47 the job
