Good evening. 00:00:07.17\00:00:08.50 In all the countries that Child Impact operates 00:00:08.54\00:00:11.51 they're now all on lockdown. 00:00:11.54\00:00:13.94 And I guess the big difference to us 00:00:13.98\00:00:15.81 is that there is no government assistance. 00:00:15.84\00:00:18.85 So those that are poor 00:00:18.88\00:00:21.55 or don't have a lot are really struggling. 00:00:21.58\00:00:24.62 And so in the communities where we sponsor children, 00:00:24.65\00:00:29.22 many of the families are running out of food. 00:00:29.26\00:00:31.99 And this is in India and Bangladesh. 00:00:32.03\00:00:34.86 We are helping where we can. 00:00:34.90\00:00:37.10 And if you want to help, you could best give to our 00:00:37.13\00:00:40.34 Where Needed Most Fund or our Rice and Health Appeal, 00:00:40.37\00:00:44.57 it will be well used. 00:00:44.61\00:00:46.44 Just go to our website, childimpact.org. 00:00:46.47\00:00:52.48 We are excited to announce that world renowned violinist 00:00:52.51\00:00:56.85 Jamie George has made 00:00:56.89\00:00:58.72 two amazing mini concerts for the kids. 00:00:58.75\00:01:02.22 I guess after being in lockdown, 00:01:02.26\00:01:04.56 we all need to relax and listen to some special music. 00:01:04.59\00:01:09.06 The first concert will premiere right here 00:01:09.10\00:01:11.90 on 3ABN after our program, 00:01:11.93\00:01:15.50 next Friday night may 8th at 11:30 Central, 00:01:15.54\00:01:20.21 and then again at Saturday at 4:30 Central. 00:01:20.24\00:01:25.88 Jamie is amazing, and you will enjoy these concerts. 00:01:25.91\00:01:29.78 So join us next Friday night, and then watch the concert, 00:01:29.82\00:01:33.82 and then also again on the following weekend. 00:01:33.86\00:01:39.16 Please enjoy this news story from Bangladesh. 00:01:39.19\00:01:41.86 In Bangladesh, the Adventist Mission 00:02:00.02\00:02:02.08 follows along a familiar path, 00:02:02.12\00:02:03.99 while people of all ages are reached out administer to, 00:02:04.02\00:02:07.46 children are the heart of the operation. 00:02:07.49\00:02:09.92 Adventist schools 00:02:09.96\00:02:11.29 like Kellogg-Mookerjee Memorial Seminary 00:02:11.33\00:02:13.16 and the rural village of Jalirpar 00:02:13.19\00:02:14.83 are the primary vehicles through which children 00:02:14.86\00:02:16.87 are reached and shown the Christian message. 00:02:16.90\00:02:20.60 This leads many to Christ and provides them 00:02:20.64\00:02:23.14 with the opportunity 00:02:23.17\00:02:24.51 to pursue a variety of career options 00:02:24.54\00:02:26.74 limited to the education. 00:02:26.78\00:02:28.28 And in some cases the gifts of the school 00:02:28.31\00:02:30.21 come back to them. 00:02:30.25\00:02:31.58 In this episode, we learn the story of two men, 00:02:31.61\00:02:34.15 each of whom attended KMMS as children, 00:02:34.18\00:02:36.82 who as adults have dedicated their lives 00:02:36.85\00:02:38.75 to furthering its mission. 00:02:38.79\00:02:41.42 In Bangladesh, Christianity is barely seen. 00:02:41.46\00:02:44.06 With it being half of 1% of the population, 00:02:44.09\00:02:47.00 the challenge to spread the gospel is evident. 00:02:47.03\00:02:49.93 The need for church workers is high. 00:02:49.96\00:02:52.13 Sponsorship from these schools has greatly increased 00:02:52.17\00:02:54.40 the amount of church workers like Harrison and Richard 00:02:54.44\00:02:58.17 they went through sponsorship and now help out the church, 00:02:58.21\00:03:00.81 increase its numbers 00:03:00.84\00:03:02.18 with all the programs they offer. 00:03:02.21\00:03:04.38 A great difference has been noticed 00:03:04.41\00:03:05.78 with Christian education in Bangladesh 00:03:05.81\00:03:08.52 and their support from sponsors 00:03:08.55\00:03:10.05 have brought them to seek to help other children 00:03:10.09\00:03:12.25 to get the same opportunities they got. 00:03:12.29\00:03:15.79 It's very difficult to bring Christianity to a country 00:03:15.82\00:03:18.29 that is raised in a certain religion and viewpoint. 00:03:18.33\00:03:21.36 Yet the outreach that has been possible needs to be addressed. 00:03:21.40\00:03:25.10 The support of the church's mission 00:03:25.13\00:03:26.84 as well as helping the kids live a better life 00:03:26.87\00:03:29.37 can change their entire future, 00:03:29.40\00:03:31.67 and through helping one of them that support grows 00:03:31.71\00:03:34.71 and spreads to others. 00:03:34.74\00:03:36.38 Our time at KMMS was heavily facilitated 00:03:36.41\00:03:39.05 by Richard Marandi, a Field Officer for BCSS. 00:03:39.08\00:03:43.35 He accompanied us regularly while filming at the school, 00:03:43.39\00:03:46.76 and provided us with insight 00:03:46.79\00:03:48.16 into the lives of some of the children 00:03:48.19\00:03:49.99 we filmed. 00:03:50.03\00:03:51.96 But his role extends 00:03:51.99\00:03:53.33 far beyond helping foreign visitors. 00:03:53.36\00:03:55.90 In his own words. 00:03:55.93\00:03:57.27 I'm Richard Marandi, 00:03:57.30\00:03:58.93 BCSS Field Manager for Sub Bangladesh mission. 00:03:58.97\00:04:02.94 And under me 00:04:02.97\00:04:04.84 there are 18 village schools and 2 boarding schools. 00:04:04.87\00:04:09.54 And altogether like 750 students 00:04:09.58\00:04:12.18 are sponsored, and I look after them. 00:04:12.21\00:04:15.92 I am doing this job from 2007 till now. 00:04:15.95\00:04:22.16 Richard's experience 00:04:22.19\00:04:23.53 with the church began as a child. 00:04:23.56\00:04:27.30 Richard's childhood was not without its difficulties. 00:04:27.33\00:04:32.13 When I came to this boarding school, 00:04:32.17\00:04:34.64 first time in 1990, 00:04:34.67\00:04:36.94 so I had sponsorship support 00:04:36.97\00:04:39.47 because my family background is not good. 00:04:39.51\00:04:41.98 So as you know that boarding school fees 00:04:42.01\00:04:46.21 is a little higher than day school. 00:04:46.25\00:04:49.28 So I know that studying in boarding school is hard. 00:04:49.32\00:04:55.62 And my parents could not pay my school fees. 00:04:55.66\00:04:59.59 But attending KMMS allowed him to experience a different life. 00:04:59.63\00:05:04.33 There are many students, there were during my time, 00:05:04.37\00:05:08.50 and they did not have sponsorship. 00:05:08.54\00:05:11.17 And after they studied two years, 00:05:11.21\00:05:13.98 like in the boarding school, and still they did not have. 00:05:14.01\00:05:17.38 They did not receive sponsorship support. 00:05:17.41\00:05:19.65 And after two years, 00:05:19.68\00:05:22.78 their financial debts are higher 00:05:22.82\00:05:27.42 so they left school to home. 00:05:27.46\00:05:29.72 And the people they do like rural work, 00:05:29.76\00:05:35.70 some are labor. 00:05:35.73\00:05:38.47 If I had not this sponsorship support, 00:05:38.50\00:05:42.50 so I could not also study, and I could not get education, 00:05:42.54\00:05:47.01 and I couldn't be like them also. 00:05:47.04\00:05:52.28 Richard is great with kids 00:05:52.31\00:05:53.65 and they seem to like him a lot too. 00:05:53.68\00:05:55.15 His experience with KMMS 00:05:58.32\00:06:00.16 Adventist education and sponsorship 00:06:00.19\00:06:02.52 have led him to give that experience back 00:06:02.56\00:06:04.73 to new generations of children in Bangladesh. 00:06:04.76\00:06:07.36 So I enjoy this work because when I see, 00:06:07.40\00:06:13.00 I visit around villages. 00:06:13.03\00:06:16.40 So I know the people and they are needy, 00:06:16.44\00:06:20.04 and they sometimes they approach to me, 00:06:20.08\00:06:22.84 and they cry to me, 00:06:22.88\00:06:24.75 and they ask for sponsorship 00:06:24.78\00:06:27.32 so I am interested to work behind them 00:06:27.35\00:06:30.99 so that I can do something for them actually. 00:06:31.02\00:06:35.09 Richard's role extends to multiple schools, 00:06:35.12\00:06:37.59 which he visits regularly. 00:06:37.63\00:06:40.10 He stayed in the same guest house 00:06:40.13\00:06:41.70 as our documentary team while we were there, 00:06:41.73\00:06:45.20 but this is not the case for Harrison, 00:06:45.23\00:06:46.94 whose role is dedicated to KMMS. 00:06:46.97\00:06:50.21 He helped us film interviews with the children 00:06:50.24\00:06:52.21 serving as an interpreter and filling in the details 00:06:52.24\00:06:55.18 when our interview subjects got a little shy. 00:06:55.21\00:06:58.81 Much of our information about the various students 00:06:58.85\00:07:00.92 came from him 00:07:00.95\00:07:02.28 as he works closely with the children. 00:07:02.32\00:07:04.65 Perhaps no other faculty member has as much personal experience 00:07:04.69\00:07:07.92 with as many students as Harrison does. 00:07:07.96\00:07:10.59 Hello, my name is Sinoy Harrison Sicar. 00:07:10.63\00:07:13.70 And I am from Kellogg-Mookerjee Memorial Seminary. 00:07:13.73\00:07:16.97 And I'm working here from 2013 September 16 00:07:17.00\00:07:21.40 to still now I'm working here and working as an accountant 00:07:21.44\00:07:25.74 and this year I am appointed 00:07:25.77\00:07:27.91 as a new area 00:07:27.94\00:07:30.75 sponsorship supervisor at KMMS. 00:07:30.78\00:07:34.58 Like Richard, he attended KMMS as a child. 00:07:34.62\00:07:38.75 Actually, my father and my mother 00:07:38.79\00:07:42.29 they are working here before their marriage 00:07:42.32\00:07:46.23 they're working here, 00:07:46.26\00:07:47.60 and they got married in this tradition. 00:07:47.63\00:07:50.67 And I was born here, 00:07:50.70\00:07:54.10 and I started my school early here. 00:07:54.14\00:07:58.41 And I completed my SSC level from here, 00:07:58.44\00:08:03.48 and I went to Basque for higher education. 00:08:03.51\00:08:07.52 So from my childhood, I started from the school. 00:08:07.55\00:08:12.99 This experience proved inspiring for Harrison, 00:08:13.02\00:08:15.82 who had found a life mission. 00:08:15.86\00:08:18.93 And actually, I loved school, when I studied the college, 00:08:18.96\00:08:24.63 that time I had a dream that I will work at KMMS. 00:08:24.67\00:08:30.01 When I was a student over here, that time I thought, 00:08:30.04\00:08:35.74 "Oh, if I saw my sponsor, if I visited my sponsor, 00:08:35.78\00:08:41.58 or if I hug him, then I will feel better." 00:08:41.62\00:08:45.35 And even I don't know. 00:08:45.39\00:08:46.82 Now I don't know who is she or who is he? 00:08:46.86\00:08:51.56 I don't know. 00:08:51.59\00:08:52.93 Who is the person who helping me, 00:08:52.96\00:08:55.36 but I am very thankful to him or her 00:08:55.40\00:08:58.50 that he or she supported me from my childhood 00:08:58.53\00:09:02.54 to till my college level. 00:09:02.57\00:09:06.04 For their love 00:09:06.07\00:09:07.41 and for their financial support, 00:09:07.44\00:09:09.04 I am able to complete my college, 00:09:09.08\00:09:11.31 and I am able to reach my goal. 00:09:11.35\00:09:14.78 The stories of these men are inspiring 00:09:14.82\00:09:17.02 and their efforts make all the difference 00:09:17.05\00:09:18.85 at KMMS and other schools, but they would agree. 00:09:18.89\00:09:23.16 In the end, it is all about the children. 00:09:23.19\00:09:27.66 Many of them are came from the poor background 00:09:27.70\00:09:31.73 and many of them are living in the rural village area. 00:09:31.77\00:09:37.27 So if they are living there, 00:09:37.31\00:09:39.44 so then they will not receive the good education, 00:09:39.47\00:09:43.04 good food, even good shelter, 00:09:43.08\00:09:45.05 but they came here, and they learned many things, 00:09:45.08\00:09:49.88 and they are very thankful to the sponsorships 00:09:49.92\00:09:53.25 because of their love and support 00:09:53.29\00:09:55.39 and their kindness. 00:09:55.42\00:09:57.76 Sponsorship not only helps a child, 00:09:57.79\00:10:00.23 it helps a future adult. 00:10:00.26\00:10:03.60 When I visit to any school, any sponsored school, 00:10:03.63\00:10:07.00 I collect students, 00:10:07.04\00:10:10.34 and I talk individually with them, 00:10:10.37\00:10:13.78 and I like to know their problem 00:10:13.81\00:10:17.41 and their interest 00:10:17.45\00:10:19.28 and what would they like to be in future. 00:10:19.31\00:10:23.89 It helps so much. 00:10:23.92\00:10:25.25 Well, we're back here at KMMS School in Bangladesh, 00:10:34.73\00:10:38.83 and I guess this is what my job is all about, 00:10:38.87\00:10:41.90 it's the part I enjoy. 00:10:41.94\00:10:43.64 It's meeting the children. 00:10:43.67\00:10:45.34 And each one of these children here 00:10:45.37\00:10:47.51 is sponsored by Child Impact. 00:10:47.54\00:10:49.98 Each one has a sponsor, and each one is given a future, 00:10:50.01\00:10:54.35 is given an education. 00:10:54.38\00:10:56.35 Each face has a different story, 00:10:56.38\00:10:59.15 each face has a different home situation, 00:10:59.19\00:11:02.89 but they're really happy at the school 00:11:02.92\00:11:05.09 and the school was having a big impact on their life. 00:11:05.13\00:11:08.20 It just shows you 00:11:08.23\00:11:09.56 the effectiveness of child sponsorship. 00:11:09.60\00:11:13.23 The sponsorship 00:11:13.27\00:11:14.60 is very important for Bangladesh 00:11:14.64\00:11:18.34 because here is the needy children 00:11:18.37\00:11:21.98 they need to go to school. 00:11:22.01\00:11:25.35 Many students out there, 00:11:25.38\00:11:27.35 they don't have opportunity to go to school. 00:11:27.38\00:11:30.49 So it's really helping our country 00:11:30.52\00:11:33.62 and even the church 00:11:33.66\00:11:36.69 has great work through schools. 00:11:36.73\00:11:41.26 Our schools is a mission outreach, 00:11:41.30\00:11:44.40 where whoever can come and study here 00:11:44.43\00:11:50.54 and the sponsorship is helping so much 00:11:50.57\00:11:55.11 to have the growth of the church. 00:11:55.14\00:11:59.91 And children and the young people 00:11:59.95\00:12:02.78 while they're coming in this school, 00:12:02.82\00:12:04.85 they're really falling in love with Jesus 00:12:04.89\00:12:08.32 and accepting Jesus as their personal Savior, 00:12:08.36\00:12:11.79 it's really marvelous work. 00:12:11.83\00:12:13.93 So preparing for this world and the world to come. 00:12:13.96\00:12:18.23 My story, that I was a sponsor child, 00:12:18.27\00:12:21.84 and now I'm heading 00:12:21.87\00:12:23.41 the sponsorship department here in Bangladesh. 00:12:23.44\00:12:27.71 And the same way 00:12:27.74\00:12:30.41 we have about 40% to 50% leaders 00:12:30.45\00:12:36.32 who were sponsored before, 00:12:36.35\00:12:38.72 and now they're the leaders of the church, 00:12:38.75\00:12:42.39 continuing God's message and His mission 00:12:42.42\00:12:46.90 through church in the leadership. 00:12:46.93\00:12:51.73 I'm Shawn Boonstra, 00:12:51.77\00:12:53.10 Speaker Director for the Voice of Prophecy. 00:12:53.13\00:12:55.64 And I've been involved with Asian Aid for many years. 00:12:55.67\00:12:59.27 I'm excited that they're growing and helping 00:12:59.31\00:13:01.18 more children in need 00:13:01.21\00:13:02.54 and very excited with their new name, 00:13:02.58\00:13:05.35 Child Impact International.
