Child Impact International is an organization giving hope. 00:00:07.24\00:00:11.21 Previously called Asian Aid, 00:00:11.24\00:00:13.17 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.21\00:00:15.84 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:15.88\00:00:18.18 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:18.21\00:00:20.22 and their communities. 00:00:20.25\00:00:21.82 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.85\00:00:24.35 in the lives of children 00:00:24.39\00:00:25.75 and those who are in need, 00:00:25.79\00:00:27.26 serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, 00:00:27.29\00:00:30.46 Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:00:30.49\00:00:32.23 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:32.26\00:00:34.63 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.66\00:00:36.13 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people, 00:00:36.16\00:00:39.07 and their investment has proven infinite returns, 00:00:39.10\00:00:42.00 driven by the dedication 00:00:42.04\00:00:43.41 to helping those who have the least. 00:00:43.44\00:00:45.61 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.64\00:00:47.68 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.71\00:00:49.84 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:49.88\00:00:52.31 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.35\00:00:54.45 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:54.48\00:00:57.52 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 00:00:57.55\00:01:00.49 and the blind children 00:01:00.52\00:01:01.86 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:01.89\00:01:04.63 But above all, Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:04.66\00:01:08.56 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.60\00:01:11.90 giving hope to the ones who need it the most. 00:01:11.93\00:01:14.57 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:14.60\00:01:16.24 In my role as CEO of Child Impact International, 00:01:21.48\00:01:26.08 it was my privilege to visit Myanmar again. 00:01:26.11\00:01:29.78 Myanmar used to be called Burma. 00:01:29.82\00:01:33.39 Most of the country is very low lying 00:01:33.42\00:01:36.32 and consists of rivers and deltas, 00:01:36.36\00:01:38.99 and much of the transportation 00:01:39.03\00:01:41.83 both for people getting from here to there 00:01:41.86\00:01:44.63 and for industry 00:01:44.67\00:01:46.67 and freight is done on the river. 00:01:46.70\00:01:51.11 Myanmar is one of the most devout 00:01:51.14\00:01:53.14 Buddhist countries in the world. 00:01:53.17\00:01:55.14 And it was my privilege to visit 00:01:55.18\00:01:56.85 one of the larger temples near the seminary. 00:01:56.88\00:02:00.12 And here I am 00:02:00.15\00:02:01.48 with the principal of the seminary, 00:02:01.52\00:02:03.28 as he showed me around the temple. 00:02:03.32\00:02:06.25 The temple was actually closed on this day. 00:02:06.29\00:02:09.09 But we were able to get in and have a look around. 00:02:09.12\00:02:12.33 You have to take your shoes off 00:02:12.36\00:02:13.80 and that can be very uncomfortable 00:02:13.83\00:02:16.10 walking around the rough floor of the temple. 00:02:16.13\00:02:19.03 Some of this is real gold and some is imitation gold. 00:02:19.07\00:02:23.54 It's actually very interesting that Myanmar has 00:02:23.57\00:02:26.57 one of the highest giving rates per person 00:02:26.61\00:02:29.88 despite being a very poor country. 00:02:29.91\00:02:33.21 After we left the temple, 00:02:33.25\00:02:35.25 we left by car to visit one of the local villages 00:02:35.28\00:02:39.12 near the academy. 00:02:39.15\00:02:41.02 This village located near the academy 00:02:41.06\00:02:43.86 has actually about 10 of its children 00:02:43.89\00:02:46.66 that attend the local Adventist school 00:02:46.70\00:02:48.86 and academy. 00:02:48.90\00:02:50.27 And I went to visit the village leaders 00:02:50.30\00:02:53.37 just to talk to them about how important 00:02:53.40\00:02:56.14 the education of their children is. 00:02:56.17\00:02:59.21 This lady is one of the village leaders, 00:02:59.24\00:03:02.18 and also one of the village elders 00:03:02.21\00:03:04.21 was there. 00:03:04.25\00:03:05.58 And through the principal 00:03:05.61\00:03:06.95 were able to express their extreme gratitude 00:03:06.98\00:03:09.82 for the fact that their children 00:03:09.85\00:03:11.79 can attend the local Adventist mission school, 00:03:11.82\00:03:14.82 and the older children can go to the academy. 00:03:14.86\00:03:18.09 These children are very happy 00:03:18.13\00:03:20.13 and live a very peaceful village life. 00:03:20.16\00:03:23.40 But still, Myanmar, 00:03:23.43\00:03:25.40 poverty is twice as high on the rural areas. 00:03:25.43\00:03:28.60 And some of these families struggle to survive. 00:03:28.64\00:03:32.81 After visiting the village, we returned to the seminary, 00:03:32.84\00:03:36.18 and in this classroom, 00:03:36.21\00:03:37.88 five of the children are from the village 00:03:37.91\00:03:40.55 that we had just visited. 00:03:40.58\00:03:42.98 At this time, the Myanmar church 00:03:43.02\00:03:45.59 was celebrating 125 years, 00:03:45.62\00:03:48.56 and it was my privilege 00:03:48.59\00:03:49.92 to travel with our world leader, 00:03:49.96\00:03:52.16 Pastor Ted Wilson. 00:03:52.19\00:03:53.60 The great emphasis, of course, in many parts of the world 00:03:53.63\00:03:57.17 is to reach out to many people who are not members 00:03:57.20\00:04:01.27 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:04:01.30\00:04:03.17 We're doing this recording right here in Myanmar 00:04:03.20\00:04:07.54 where Child Impact 00:04:07.58\00:04:09.64 is having a very strong impact 00:04:09.68\00:04:12.98 on many of the students. 00:04:13.01\00:04:14.52 It's an amazing opportunity and these mission schools 00:04:14.55\00:04:18.89 to touch the lives of young people, 00:04:18.92\00:04:22.02 not just for their professional lives 00:04:22.06\00:04:24.83 in the future, but eternally. 00:04:24.86\00:04:27.40 As I visit these classrooms, 00:04:27.43\00:04:29.33 I can really see the difference 00:04:29.36\00:04:31.63 that you the sponsors are making for these children. 00:04:31.67\00:04:34.97 These children come from very poor backgrounds, 00:04:35.00\00:04:37.94 and to see their eagerness to learn 00:04:37.97\00:04:40.18 and to see them singing songs about Jesus 00:04:40.21\00:04:43.61 really shows me that sponsorship 00:04:43.65\00:04:46.28 is a very effective way of sharing the gospel. 00:04:46.31\00:04:49.75 Sponsoring children in activities 00:04:49.78\00:04:54.22 like these mission schools and opportunities 00:04:54.26\00:04:57.49 is a tremendous way to help form the character 00:04:57.53\00:05:01.90 of young people as they look to the future. 00:05:01.93\00:05:05.03 They will never forget their association 00:05:05.07\00:05:08.20 in a Christian environment. 00:05:08.24\00:05:09.97 And by God's grace, many of them will become 00:05:10.01\00:05:13.01 members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:05:13.04\00:05:15.71 It is absolutely a powerful witness 00:05:15.74\00:05:19.11 to sponsor a child in Child Impact 00:05:19.15\00:05:22.58 and so many other organizations 00:05:22.62\00:05:24.89 that help young people to find Jesus. 00:05:24.92\00:05:27.99 Welcome back to our program about Child Impact, 00:05:31.49\00:05:35.26 and one of these projects that you have going 00:05:35.30\00:05:37.47 is called Operation Child Rescue. 00:05:37.50\00:05:40.74 When I was there, 00:05:40.77\00:05:42.10 I saw a little bit of this program. 00:05:42.14\00:05:45.27 It is really, really awesome and exciting 00:05:45.31\00:05:48.11 as well as very important. 00:05:48.14\00:05:50.08 Jim, tell us about Operation Child Rescue? 00:05:50.11\00:05:52.61 Well, when you operate in India, 00:05:52.65\00:05:56.38 you start to understand what trafficking is. 00:05:56.42\00:05:59.92 To be honest, it's hard to comprehend the size of it. 00:05:59.95\00:06:03.56 But it's believed that about 20% of the trafficked children 00:06:03.59\00:06:08.26 are in India. 00:06:08.30\00:06:10.13 Obviously, with young girls in the sex traffic 00:06:10.17\00:06:13.50 and brothels, 00:06:13.54\00:06:14.87 but also with young boys in beggary operations 00:06:14.90\00:06:18.64 and child labor. 00:06:18.67\00:06:20.68 And so, we just feel we had to be involved, 00:06:20.71\00:06:23.95 so we've partnered with a lady 00:06:23.98\00:06:26.78 who runs a rescue operation in Bangalore. 00:06:26.82\00:06:31.02 And she actually goes in and rescue girls, 00:06:31.05\00:06:36.02 raids these brothels and rescue girls. 00:06:36.06\00:06:39.43 And to be honest, 00:06:39.46\00:06:41.56 it takes a lot of something to do this, 00:06:41.60\00:06:44.80 but she ties them with the police force 00:06:44.83\00:06:46.97 where she can. 00:06:47.00\00:06:48.40 And we are so excited 00:06:48.44\00:06:50.24 that we can help fund this rescue work, 00:06:50.27\00:06:53.38 it's girls from brothels 00:06:53.41\00:06:55.21 but it's also young boys and... 00:06:55.24\00:06:57.65 Young boys from slave labor operations 00:06:57.68\00:07:02.08 in factories 00:07:02.12\00:07:03.52 and that sort of thing. 00:07:03.55\00:07:04.89 Okay. 00:07:04.92\00:07:06.25 We've also funded a rescue center, 00:07:06.29\00:07:09.29 so we've fully sponsored 00:07:09.32\00:07:12.09 the three years a home in Bangalore 00:07:12.13\00:07:15.46 where these girls can go, 00:07:15.50\00:07:18.17 they're safe there, they're secure. 00:07:18.20\00:07:20.57 There's very tight security. 00:07:20.60\00:07:23.51 And we are funding that rescue home 00:07:23.54\00:07:28.24 for the girls. 00:07:28.28\00:07:30.38 The second part that we're involved in 00:07:30.41\00:07:33.25 is baby rescue. 00:07:33.28\00:07:35.18 Yes. 00:07:35.22\00:07:36.55 We have an Adventist gentleman 00:07:36.58\00:07:37.92 that runs a baby rescue operation 00:07:37.95\00:07:40.36 in Bangalore also. 00:07:40.39\00:07:42.29 We have children that are abandoned 00:07:42.32\00:07:44.13 on the streets, 00:07:44.16\00:07:45.49 are abandoned in police stations, 00:07:45.53\00:07:47.73 are abandoned at hospitals 00:07:47.76\00:07:50.37 are taken to the baby rescue center. 00:07:50.40\00:07:53.50 Very touching to visit there, 00:07:53.54\00:07:55.67 to see little babies that have been rejected 00:07:55.70\00:07:58.81 or just left somewhere. 00:07:58.84\00:08:01.11 And so, supporting that, we believe is very important. 00:08:01.14\00:08:05.11 Indeed. 00:08:05.15\00:08:07.22 The next part of the rescue program 00:08:07.25\00:08:10.09 is slum rescue. 00:08:10.12\00:08:12.15 And we support 00:08:12.19\00:08:15.32 the Vizag slum school. 00:08:15.36\00:08:18.13 A large amount of the children 00:08:18.16\00:08:20.50 come from very rough backgrounds. 00:08:20.53\00:08:23.26 Now, you've visited the Vizag slum school 00:08:23.30\00:08:26.37 when we were on the trip. 00:08:26.40\00:08:29.40 What were your impressions and takeouts from that visit? 00:08:29.44\00:08:33.98 Well, the visit to that slum 00:08:34.01\00:08:36.21 is something that I will never forget. 00:08:36.24\00:08:38.45 Right in the middle of this bustling city, 00:08:38.48\00:08:41.02 we walked into this place 00:08:41.05\00:08:43.49 and the stench was everywhere, 00:08:43.52\00:08:46.05 the thin, frail bodies of the people who live there 00:08:46.09\00:08:48.99 who make $2 a day or less, 00:08:49.02\00:08:52.99 truly made an impression upon me. 00:08:53.03\00:08:55.93 But the thing that brought me 00:08:55.96\00:08:57.60 a degree of comfort was visiting that school 00:08:57.63\00:09:00.94 that is operated and supported by Child Impact. 00:09:00.97\00:09:04.61 Dozens of precious children 00:09:04.64\00:09:07.01 are going there to get an education 00:09:07.04\00:09:09.48 and to have the opportunity of a better future. 00:09:09.51\00:09:12.05 And an excellent example 00:09:12.08\00:09:14.08 was that beautiful young lady that you introduced me to. 00:09:14.12\00:09:18.15 She went through that school, 00:09:18.19\00:09:20.76 thanks to Child Impact, 00:09:20.79\00:09:22.12 was also sponsored to go to secondary school. 00:09:22.16\00:09:25.29 And she is now studying to be a nurse, 00:09:25.33\00:09:27.46 and when I asked her, 00:09:27.50\00:09:28.83 "Why do you want to be a nurse? 00:09:28.86\00:09:30.20 And where you want to go when you finish studying?" 00:09:30.23\00:09:33.07 She said, "I want to come back right here to my slum 00:09:33.10\00:09:35.84 because both of my parents have AIDS. 00:09:35.87\00:09:38.31 I want to take care of them, 00:09:38.34\00:09:39.81 and I want to take care of the people here." 00:09:39.84\00:09:42.84 Can you imagine what would happen 00:09:42.88\00:09:45.25 just in that slum 00:09:45.28\00:09:46.95 without the support of Child Impact? 00:09:46.98\00:09:50.82 And that's right, and that's why 00:09:50.85\00:09:52.42 our rescue program in the slums 00:09:52.45\00:09:55.19 by giving a child an education, 00:09:55.22\00:09:57.73 we're actually rescuing them 00:09:57.76\00:09:59.66 from the potential of being trafficked or sold. 00:09:59.69\00:10:02.76 That's right. 00:10:02.80\00:10:04.13 Now the fourth aspect of Operation Child Rescue 00:10:04.17\00:10:06.53 is the rescue of orphans. 00:10:06.57\00:10:08.64 Now, yes, quite often orphans are brought by family members, 00:10:08.67\00:10:12.84 but also we rescue children. 00:10:12.87\00:10:15.78 We rescue them from railway stations, 00:10:15.81\00:10:18.15 we rescue them from the streets, 00:10:18.18\00:10:20.25 and we take them to an orphanage. 00:10:20.28\00:10:22.52 Now about six or seven years ago, 00:10:22.55\00:10:24.92 we built Sunrise Home 00:10:24.95\00:10:27.02 which is located in the country in Bobbili 00:10:27.06\00:10:29.82 near the blind school. 00:10:29.86\00:10:31.19 Yes. 00:10:31.23\00:10:32.56 Fantastic place. 00:10:32.59\00:10:33.93 Now once again, you've visited Sunrise, 00:10:33.96\00:10:36.26 what did you think of Sunrise? 00:10:36.30\00:10:38.20 Well, I was really impressed 00:10:38.23\00:10:39.67 because they have built that place beautifully. 00:10:39.70\00:10:45.11 It is secure, it is large, in fact, 00:10:45.14\00:10:48.54 a dorm was just dedicated when we were there. 00:10:48.58\00:10:51.68 We had hundreds of people 00:10:51.71\00:10:53.05 coming for worship that day, do you remember? 00:10:53.08\00:10:55.38 Yes. 00:10:55.42\00:10:56.75 And what I can't forget 00:10:56.79\00:10:58.12 is the smiles of those children. 00:10:58.15\00:11:00.06 Yes. 00:11:00.09\00:11:01.42 Those children who have been left to die 00:11:01.46\00:11:05.29 in many cases. 00:11:05.33\00:11:06.83 Their families can't afford them 00:11:06.86\00:11:09.46 or there's something wrong with their health 00:11:09.50\00:11:13.84 or something else, and they're just dumped. 00:11:13.87\00:11:17.94 And every week, 00:11:17.97\00:11:19.31 children are brought to the gates of Sunrise Home, 00:11:19.34\00:11:23.01 and there they find a place. 00:11:23.04\00:11:25.51 They find love, they find parents, 00:11:25.55\00:11:28.92 basically their spiritual parents, 00:11:28.95\00:11:31.62 the sponsors here and the teachers there. 00:11:31.65\00:11:35.06 But one of the things 00:11:35.09\00:11:36.62 that really, really hit me the hardest 00:11:36.66\00:11:40.46 was to learn 00:11:40.50\00:11:41.86 that the area is surrounded by venomous snakes. 00:11:41.90\00:11:46.80 Yes. 00:11:46.84\00:11:48.17 And people get bit, 00:11:48.20\00:11:49.54 and they die all the time around there. 00:11:49.57\00:11:51.21 Yeah. 00:11:51.24\00:11:52.57 And yet, the director of that school told me that 00:11:52.61\00:11:54.88 not one time 00:11:54.91\00:11:56.44 has there ever been a snake found inside the orphanage. 00:11:56.48\00:11:59.91 And that tells me 00:11:59.95\00:12:01.52 that angels are standing guarding that orphanage 00:12:01.55\00:12:05.52 so that the children are not harmed by these snakes. 00:12:05.55\00:12:09.02 That speaks to the power of God and His blessing over Sunrise. 00:12:09.06\00:12:14.00 Right. 00:12:14.03\00:12:15.36 So you've heard about the four aspects 00:12:15.40\00:12:17.50 to Operation Child Rescue, 00:12:17.53\00:12:19.80 and the unique thing about Operation Child Rescue 00:12:19.83\00:12:23.20 is not that we're giving the kids an education 00:12:23.24\00:12:25.77 which we are, 00:12:25.81\00:12:27.14 it's not that we're giving the kids a home to live 00:12:27.18\00:12:30.25 which we are, 00:12:30.28\00:12:31.61 but we are rescuing them, many of them from death. 00:12:31.65\00:12:35.28 We are actually giving them life 00:12:35.32\00:12:38.32 and giving them hope. 00:12:38.35\00:12:39.89 And I just hope that you would give consideration 00:12:39.92\00:12:43.02 to supporting this important project 00:12:43.06\00:12:45.53 with Child Impact
