00:07 Child Impact International is an organization giving hope.
00:11 Previously called Asian Aid, 00:13 Child Impact International is an organization 00:15 fostering permanent positive change 00:18 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:20 and their communities. 00:21 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:24 in the lives of children 00:25 and those who are in need, 00:27 serving communities in India, 00:28 Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:32 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:34 For the last 50 years, 00:36 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people, 00:39 and their investment has proven infinite returns, 00:42 driven by the dedication to helping those 00:44 who have the least. 00:45 Child Impact is an organization 00:47 focused on the welfare of children, 00:49 implementing diverse development projects 00:52 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:54 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:57 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 01:00 and the blind children 01:01 giving them a sense of place, a home. 01:04 But above all, 01:05 Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 01:08 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 01:11 giving hope to the ones who need it the most. 01:14 This is Hope in Motion. 01:21 Child impact is very excited that we can partner 01:24 with the church in India 01:26 with a blind school, a deaf school, 01:29 and four orphanages. 01:31 These special homes and schools 01:33 are just so exciting to visit. 01:36 I had one of the most emotional moments 01:39 of my whole work career 01:41 when one day I visited the blind school 01:44 and a young girl 01:45 was just arrived at the school that morning. 01:48 They had found her in the village, 01:50 and she had been locked in the basement of the house 01:53 for over six years. 01:54 She just sat in the corner. 01:56 She wouldn't talk to anyone, she wouldn't communicate, 01:59 and she was just totally lost. 02:01 And I thought is there any hope for this child, 02:05 totally blind by the way. 02:07 Well, I went back eight weeks later, 02:10 and here she was. 02:11 I couldn't believe it, 02:13 she was talking to the other children. 02:15 She was playing. 02:17 And then in the evening it was just so touching 02:19 to see her singing Jesus loves me. 02:22 It really was just very emotional. 02:26 And so these children in a country like India 02:30 have a larger need than here 02:32 because when they're home in their village, 02:34 they're rejected. 02:35 Their parents don't know what to do. 02:37 So supporting the blind school, 02:40 the deaf school or the orphanages 02:42 is a very real way 02:44 in which you can impact the life of children 02:47 who have a huge need. 02:52 Special Needs Ministries is an area in which 02:56 we are very, very interested in, 02:58 and very proactively working, 03:00 helping the world feel to understand that 03:03 there are many people in various areas 03:06 and sectors of the population 03:07 that have not been touched. 03:09 Special Needs Ministries in Child Impact 03:12 is also extremely helpful to God's church 03:16 because those who are physically impaired, 03:20 those who are visually impaired 03:22 or perhaps hearing impaired, 03:25 they are the individuals 03:26 that are being wonderfully serviced 03:29 through Child Impact in India, in other places, 03:33 six different countries that Child Impact is active in. 03:38 You know, the Lord really wants us to attract, 03:41 and to be friendly to, and help 03:44 those who are the least of these. 03:47 And they in turn 03:49 will then become great missionaries for the Lord 03:52 within their sector and people group. 04:03 Child Impact is very excited that we can sponsor children 04:07 and also support financially the blind school in India, 04:11 which is run by the Adventist Church. 04:16 The Bobbili blind school is located, 04:19 as it says near the town of Bobbili, 04:21 which is about a two hour drive 04:24 from the main city of Vizag. 04:26 The school has just over 160 pupils, 04:30 and is located in rural India. 04:37 It's just so exciting to visit this school 04:40 because most of these children come from very poor backgrounds 04:44 and were rejected by society. 04:49 It not only brings delight to the children 04:52 but also to the parents 04:54 because the parents simply don't know what to do 04:57 when the child was born blind. 04:59 And you can see such looks of satisfaction, 05:03 such looks of happiness 05:05 when they see that their child is being educated 05:08 and looked after. 05:10 Ball. Ball. 05:12 Who? Who? 05:13 Ball. Ball. 05:19 It's also a delight in the evenings 05:21 to listen to the children singing, 05:23 and on Sabbath 05:25 going to Sabbath school and church. 05:27 They really love this school, 05:29 and this school has a big impact 05:31 and gives them a future for the rest of their life. 05:48 Jim welcome once again. 05:50 Last year you invited me to go to Myanmar, 05:53 and it was an eye opening experience for me. 05:56 I flew into the capital city of Yangon, 05:59 got in there late at night. 06:01 And I don't know if you remember 06:02 that very early the next morning. 06:04 Very early. Yes, it was. 06:06 We left, 06:07 and we had this long trip 06:10 full of bumps on the road. 06:12 And it seemed like it went on forever, 06:14 but it was about four, four and a half hours. 06:16 And we drove to the middle of nowhere. 06:19 And we went to the Myanmar Union College. 06:22 And the things I saw 06:26 have really encouraged me in many ways. 06:28 And I want to tell the folks a little bit about it. 06:31 Myanmar is the most Buddhist country in the world, 06:34 more than 90% of the population practices Buddhism. 06:38 We passed all kinds of pagodas, which are Buddhist temples. 06:43 Elaborate ones, simple ones, we heard them singing, 06:46 we heard them chanting, 06:48 and then we finally arrived in this area 06:52 where there's a college, there's a school, 06:54 there's a preschool. 06:56 I was really moved by the interest 07:00 that the young people have in learning about Jesus Christ. 07:04 Myanmar is a place that does not allow 07:06 or permit any kind of public evangelism. 07:10 So how do you preach the gospel? 07:13 Well, Child Impact is having a huge, 07:16 a huge presence 07:19 in the lives of these young people 07:20 who now not only study there, 07:24 they go home, 07:25 they share the gospel with their families, 07:28 and entire families are coming to know Jesus Christ. 07:32 So if it wasn't for this outreach, 07:34 the church probably wouldn't grow 07:36 like it's growing there right now 07:37 by the grace of God. 07:39 I remember the concert we did that afternoon. 07:42 I played with 15 precious beautiful young people, 07:47 all who played the violin, they were dressed in red. 07:49 We have the pictures. 07:51 We visited the classrooms. 07:53 I also remember the young lady 07:55 who had gone through the school, 07:57 the entire process, 08:00 just a tiny vivacious, 08:02 bubbly young lady, full of joy, 08:05 the joy of Jesus Christ. 08:07 And then the beautiful thing was that 08:08 when she finished school, 08:11 you know the story, she went back 08:12 and now she's a teacher at the preschool. 08:16 Tell me a little bit about the work? 08:18 It's only been happening there for a couple of years. 08:22 How did they get started? 08:23 How many young peoples 08:25 do we have sponsored there currently, 08:27 and what kind of need is there? 08:30 Well, Jaime, we about two and half years ago 08:33 got approached by the union, 08:35 the Myanmar Union 08:37 that they had an urgent need for sponsorship. 08:42 A large organization was withdrawing support. 08:45 And it was going to have a tragic impact 08:50 not only on the lives of these children, 08:53 but on the schools 08:54 that they couldn't have support. 08:56 And Myanmar, I think has about 08:59 20 or 30 Adventist schools. 09:02 So we stepped in on faith and took 600 children, 09:07 we have never done that before. 09:09 We didn't have sponsors. 09:12 We were very gracious to some people 09:15 who stepped in and sponsored them initially. 09:18 But we took 600 children and about 12 schools, 09:22 including the Myanmar College that you've visited. 09:25 Yes. 09:27 That's the only church college 09:30 where they can learn education, training, 09:34 biblical studies, 09:35 and even for pastor training, ministerial. 09:40 They go to that college. 09:43 So that college fulfills a key need 09:47 for the church in Myanmar 09:49 and also for training teachers in Myanmar. 09:52 So right now we have 600 children 09:55 and I have to be honest with you, 09:57 we still have about 200 un-sponsored. 10:01 So if you want to look up about the country of Myanmar, 10:04 you will see the huge need in that country. 10:08 I know we visited a village, remember, 10:12 and very basic village, 10:17 huge need, huge poverty, 10:19 but you will have noticed 10:21 they really care for their children. 10:23 Yes, they do. 10:25 And the young girl that you were talking about 10:27 actually went back... 10:29 Mia was her name. 10:30 Mia, that's right. 10:31 And she went back and shared the truth 10:34 with her mother who was converted, 10:36 and her brother, 10:38 and it was just a privilege to visit with them. 10:43 The people there are very industrious, 10:45 they are very hard working. 10:47 And we see the schools are kept neat and tidy, 10:52 you will have noticed that. 10:53 But there's some huge needs there. 10:56 Yes. 10:58 And I guess our biggest need is sponsorship, 11:01 once again 11:02 I keep saying that, but it's real. 11:05 And, or just supporting the Myanmar Education Fund 11:10 because it's a huge need. 11:12 And we want to grow our program in Myanmar. 11:16 You know, Myanmar is ripe for the harvest. 11:19 The people want to know about Jesus Christ. 11:21 And because of the way that Child Impact is set up, 11:25 it is basically doing evangelism 11:28 when the country doesn't really allow it 11:30 to be done publicly. 11:32 And so, 11:33 Child Impact is having a huge impact 11:36 for lack of a better word 11:38 in the lives of hundreds of young people 11:41 and their families in Myanmar. 11:43 And we invite you to please join us 11:46 and be a part of that. 11:56 A couple of years ago, 11:57 my daughters and I had a wonderful opportunity 12:00 to travel to India, 12:01 and while we were there, 12:03 we met yet another part of our family 12:05 and that's our sponsored daughter Sheila. 12:08 We had the privilege of sponsoring Sheila 12:10 through Child Impact International 12:12 for more than three years now. 12:15 And you know, while we were there, 12:16 she shared with us 12:18 that her dream was to become a nurse. 12:21 Now, what a wonderful privilege it is for us 12:24 now as a family 12:26 to know that she is fulfilling that dream. 12:29 Sheila is now studying to be a nurse. 12:31 She is in college 12:33 and we could not be happier for her. 12:35 It's been wonderful to be part of that journey with her. 12:38 And, you know, 12:40 sponsoring a child through Child Impact, 12:42 it's made an incredible difference 12:44 for our family. 12:45 And I know that for you sponsoring a child 12:47 can make a difference for you too. 12:49 And most importantly, 12:51 it can make the difference 12:52 in the life of a child every day. |
