Child Impact International is an organization giving hope. 00:00:07.24\00:00:11.17 Previously called Asian Aid, 00:00:11.21\00:00:13.14 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.17\00:00:15.81 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:15.84\00:00:18.15 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:18.18\00:00:20.22 and their communities. 00:00:20.25\00:00:21.82 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.85\00:00:24.35 in the lives of children 00:00:24.39\00:00:25.75 and those who are in need, 00:00:25.79\00:00:27.29 serving communities in India, 00:00:27.32\00:00:28.79 Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:00:28.82\00:00:32.19 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:32.23\00:00:34.60 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.63\00:00:36.16 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people, 00:00:36.20\00:00:39.07 and their investment has proven infinite returns, 00:00:39.10\00:00:41.97 driven by the dedication to helping those 00:00:42.00\00:00:44.34 who have the least. 00:00:44.37\00:00:45.71 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.74\00:00:47.61 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.64\00:00:49.81 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:49.84\00:00:52.28 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.31\00:00:54.52 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:54.55\00:00:57.49 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 00:00:57.52\00:01:00.46 and the blind children 00:01:00.49\00:01:01.82 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:01.86\00:01:04.49 But above all, 00:01:04.53\00:01:05.86 Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:05.89\00:01:08.56 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.60\00:01:11.90 giving hope to the ones who need it the most. 00:01:11.93\00:01:14.57 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:14.60\00:01:16.30 Child impact is very excited that we can partner 00:01:21.68\00:01:24.78 with the church in India 00:01:24.81\00:01:26.68 with a blind school, a deaf school, 00:01:26.72\00:01:29.05 and four orphanages. 00:01:29.08\00:01:31.22 These special homes and schools 00:01:31.25\00:01:33.82 are just so exciting to visit. 00:01:33.86\00:01:36.96 I had one of the most emotional moments 00:01:36.99\00:01:39.29 of my whole work career 00:01:39.33\00:01:41.73 when one day I visited the blind school 00:01:41.76\00:01:44.33 and a young girl 00:01:44.37\00:01:45.70 was just arrived at the school that morning. 00:01:45.73\00:01:48.14 They had found her in the village, 00:01:48.17\00:01:50.07 and she had been locked in the basement of the house 00:01:50.11\00:01:53.04 for over six years. 00:01:53.07\00:01:54.88 She just sat in the corner. 00:01:54.91\00:01:56.58 She wouldn't talk to anyone, she wouldn't communicate, 00:01:56.61\00:01:59.91 and she was just totally lost. 00:01:59.95\00:02:01.92 And I thought is there any hope for this child, 00:02:01.95\00:02:05.59 totally blind by the way. 00:02:05.62\00:02:07.82 Well, I went back eight weeks later, 00:02:07.86\00:02:10.49 and here she was. 00:02:10.53\00:02:11.86 I couldn't believe it, 00:02:11.89\00:02:13.23 she was talking to the other children. 00:02:13.26\00:02:15.66 She was playing. 00:02:15.70\00:02:17.03 And then in the evening it was just so touching 00:02:17.07\00:02:19.73 to see her singing Jesus loves me. 00:02:19.77\00:02:22.80 It really was just very emotional. 00:02:22.84\00:02:26.14 And so these children in a country like India 00:02:26.17\00:02:30.18 have a larger need than here 00:02:30.21\00:02:32.21 because when they're home in their village, 00:02:32.25\00:02:34.32 they're rejected. 00:02:34.35\00:02:35.68 Their parents don't know what to do. 00:02:35.72\00:02:37.89 So supporting the blind school, 00:02:37.92\00:02:40.19 the deaf school or the orphanages 00:02:40.22\00:02:42.52 is a very real way 00:02:42.56\00:02:44.66 in which you can impact the life of children 00:02:44.69\00:02:47.76 who have a huge need. 00:02:47.80\00:02:49.13 Special Needs Ministries is an area in which 00:02:52.77\00:02:56.77 we are very, very interested in, 00:02:56.81\00:02:58.84 and very proactively working, 00:02:58.87\00:03:00.88 helping the world feel to understand that 00:03:00.91\00:03:03.08 there are many people in various areas 00:03:03.11\00:03:06.01 and sectors of the population 00:03:06.05\00:03:07.82 that have not been touched. 00:03:07.85\00:03:09.58 Special Needs Ministries in Child Impact 00:03:09.62\00:03:12.75 is also extremely helpful to God's church 00:03:12.79\00:03:16.09 because those who are physically impaired, 00:03:16.12\00:03:20.30 those who are visually impaired 00:03:20.33\00:03:22.50 or perhaps hearing impaired, 00:03:22.53\00:03:25.13 they are the individuals 00:03:25.17\00:03:26.63 that are being wonderfully serviced 00:03:26.67\00:03:29.07 through Child Impact in India, in other places, 00:03:29.10\00:03:33.54 six different countries that Child Impact is active in. 00:03:33.58\00:03:38.21 You know, the Lord really wants us to attract, 00:03:38.25\00:03:41.85 and to be friendly to, and help 00:03:41.88\00:03:44.92 those who are the least of these. 00:03:44.95\00:03:47.79 And they in turn 00:03:47.82\00:03:49.32 will then become great missionaries for the Lord 00:03:49.36\00:03:52.19 within their sector and people group. 00:03:52.23\00:03:54.26 Child Impact is very excited that we can sponsor children 00:04:03.37\00:04:07.61 and also support financially the blind school in India, 00:04:07.64\00:04:11.41 which is run by the Adventist Church. 00:04:11.45\00:04:13.48 The Bobbili blind school is located, 00:04:16.28\00:04:19.35 as it says near the town of Bobbili, 00:04:19.39\00:04:21.92 which is about a two hour drive 00:04:21.96\00:04:24.19 from the main city of Vizag. 00:04:24.23\00:04:26.80 The school has just over 160 pupils, 00:04:26.83\00:04:30.53 and is located in rural India. 00:04:30.57\00:04:33.30 It's just so exciting to visit this school 00:04:37.97\00:04:40.74 because most of these children come from very poor backgrounds 00:04:40.78\00:04:44.78 and were rejected by society. 00:04:44.81\00:04:49.45 It not only brings delight to the children 00:04:49.48\00:04:52.12 but also to the parents 00:04:52.15\00:04:54.02 because the parents simply don't know what to do 00:04:54.06\00:04:56.99 when the child was born blind. 00:04:57.03\00:04:59.09 And you can see such looks of satisfaction, 00:04:59.13\00:05:03.16 such looks of happiness 00:05:03.20\00:05:04.97 when they see that their child is being educated 00:05:05.00\00:05:08.60 and looked after. 00:05:08.64\00:05:10.67 Ball. Ball. 00:05:10.71\00:05:12.24 Who? Who? 00:05:12.27\00:05:13.61 Ball. Ball. 00:05:13.64\00:05:15.04 It's also a delight in the evenings 00:05:19.51\00:05:21.58 to listen to the children singing, 00:05:21.62\00:05:23.79 and on Sabbath 00:05:23.82\00:05:25.15 going to Sabbath school and church. 00:05:25.19\00:05:27.29 They really love this school, 00:05:27.32\00:05:29.26 and this school has a big impact 00:05:29.29\00:05:31.43 and gives them a future for the rest of their life. 00:05:31.46\00:05:34.56 Jim welcome once again. 00:05:48.21\00:05:50.78 Last year you invited me to go to Myanmar, 00:05:50.81\00:05:53.85 and it was an eye opening experience for me. 00:05:53.88\00:05:56.82 I flew into the capital city of Yangon, 00:05:56.85\00:05:59.45 got in there late at night. 00:05:59.49\00:06:01.26 And I don't know if you remember 00:06:01.29\00:06:02.79 that very early the next morning. 00:06:02.82\00:06:04.36 Very early. Yes, it was. 00:06:04.39\00:06:06.33 We left, 00:06:06.36\00:06:07.76 and we had this long trip 00:06:07.80\00:06:10.43 full of bumps on the road. 00:06:10.47\00:06:12.87 And it seemed like it went on forever, 00:06:12.90\00:06:14.64 but it was about four, four and a half hours. 00:06:14.67\00:06:16.60 And we drove to the middle of nowhere. 00:06:16.64\00:06:19.27 And we went to the Myanmar Union College. 00:06:19.31\00:06:22.64 And the things I saw 00:06:22.68\00:06:26.08 have really encouraged me in many ways. 00:06:26.11\00:06:28.65 And I want to tell the folks a little bit about it. 00:06:28.68\00:06:31.09 Myanmar is the most Buddhist country in the world, 00:06:31.12\00:06:34.26 more than 90% of the population practices Buddhism. 00:06:34.29\00:06:38.56 We passed all kinds of pagodas, which are Buddhist temples. 00:06:38.59\00:06:42.96 Elaborate ones, simple ones, we heard them singing, 00:06:43.00\00:06:46.84 we heard them chanting, 00:06:46.87\00:06:48.84 and then we finally arrived in this area 00:06:48.87\00:06:52.11 where there's a college, there's a school, 00:06:52.14\00:06:54.18 there's a preschool. 00:06:54.21\00:06:56.88 I was really moved by the interest 00:06:56.91\00:07:00.18 that the young people have in learning about Jesus Christ. 00:07:00.22\00:07:04.09 Myanmar is a place that does not allow 00:07:04.12\00:07:06.86 or permit any kind of public evangelism. 00:07:06.89\00:07:10.83 So how do you preach the gospel? 00:07:10.86\00:07:13.03 Well, Child Impact is having a huge, 00:07:13.06\00:07:16.93 a huge presence 00:07:16.97\00:07:19.17 in the lives of these young people 00:07:19.20\00:07:20.94 who now not only study there, 00:07:20.97\00:07:23.97 they go home, 00:07:24.01\00:07:25.41 they share the gospel with their families, 00:07:25.44\00:07:28.54 and entire families are coming to know Jesus Christ. 00:07:28.58\00:07:32.28 So if it wasn't for this outreach, 00:07:32.31\00:07:34.48 the church probably wouldn't grow 00:07:34.52\00:07:36.18 like it's growing there right now 00:07:36.22\00:07:37.59 by the grace of God. 00:07:37.62\00:07:39.39 I remember the concert we did that afternoon. 00:07:39.42\00:07:42.29 I played with 15 precious beautiful young people, 00:07:42.32\00:07:47.16 all who played the violin, they were dressed in red. 00:07:47.20\00:07:49.83 We have the pictures. 00:07:49.86\00:07:51.37 We visited the classrooms. 00:07:51.40\00:07:53.74 I also remember the young lady 00:07:53.77\00:07:55.50 who had gone through the school, 00:07:55.54\00:07:57.74 the entire process, 00:07:57.77\00:08:00.14 just a tiny vivacious, 00:08:00.18\00:08:02.58 bubbly young lady, full of joy, 00:08:02.61\00:08:05.25 the joy of Jesus Christ. 00:08:05.28\00:08:07.32 And then the beautiful thing was that 00:08:07.35\00:08:08.78 when she finished school, 00:08:08.82\00:08:11.05 you know the story, she went back 00:08:11.09\00:08:12.79 and now she's a teacher at the preschool. 00:08:12.82\00:08:16.59 Tell me a little bit about the work? 00:08:16.62\00:08:18.96 It's only been happening there for a couple of years. 00:08:18.99\00:08:22.10 How did they get started? 00:08:22.13\00:08:23.47 How many young peoples 00:08:23.50\00:08:25.13 do we have sponsored there currently, 00:08:25.17\00:08:27.27 and what kind of need is there? 00:08:27.30\00:08:30.11 Well, Jaime, we about two and half years ago 00:08:30.14\00:08:33.07 got approached by the union, 00:08:33.11\00:08:35.04 the Myanmar Union 00:08:35.08\00:08:37.45 that they had an urgent need for sponsorship. 00:08:37.48\00:08:42.12 A large organization was withdrawing support. 00:08:42.15\00:08:45.79 And it was going to have a tragic impact 00:08:45.82\00:08:50.29 not only on the lives of these children, 00:08:50.33\00:08:52.99 but on the schools 00:08:53.03\00:08:54.36 that they couldn't have support. 00:08:54.40\00:08:56.26 And Myanmar, I think has about 00:08:56.30\00:08:59.60 20 or 30 Adventist schools. 00:08:59.63\00:09:02.40 So we stepped in on faith and took 600 children, 00:09:02.44\00:09:07.01 we have never done that before. 00:09:07.04\00:09:09.44 We didn't have sponsors. 00:09:09.48\00:09:12.51 We were very gracious to some people 00:09:12.55\00:09:15.15 who stepped in and sponsored them initially. 00:09:15.18\00:09:18.09 But we took 600 children and about 12 schools, 00:09:18.12\00:09:22.42 including the Myanmar College that you've visited. 00:09:22.46\00:09:25.89 Yes. 00:09:25.93\00:09:27.26 That's the only church college 00:09:27.30\00:09:30.07 where they can learn education, training, 00:09:30.10\00:09:34.04 biblical studies, 00:09:34.07\00:09:35.74 and even for pastor training, ministerial. 00:09:35.77\00:09:40.54 They go to that college. 00:09:40.58\00:09:43.14 So that college fulfills a key need 00:09:43.18\00:09:47.52 for the church in Myanmar 00:09:47.55\00:09:49.72 and also for training teachers in Myanmar. 00:09:49.75\00:09:52.89 So right now we have 600 children 00:09:52.92\00:09:55.59 and I have to be honest with you, 00:09:55.62\00:09:57.33 we still have about 200 un-sponsored. 00:09:57.36\00:10:01.53 So if you want to look up about the country of Myanmar, 00:10:01.56\00:10:04.90 you will see the huge need in that country. 00:10:04.93\00:10:08.90 I know we visited a village, remember, 00:10:08.94\00:10:12.01 and very basic village, 00:10:12.04\00:10:16.98 huge need, huge poverty, 00:10:17.01\00:10:19.65 but you will have noticed 00:10:19.68\00:10:21.18 they really care for their children. 00:10:21.22\00:10:23.89 Yes, they do. 00:10:23.92\00:10:25.25 And the young girl that you were talking about 00:10:25.29\00:10:27.59 actually went back... 00:10:27.62\00:10:29.22 Mia was her name. 00:10:29.26\00:10:30.59 Mia, that's right. 00:10:30.63\00:10:31.96 And she went back and shared the truth 00:10:31.99\00:10:34.30 with her mother who was converted, 00:10:34.33\00:10:36.93 and her brother, 00:10:36.97\00:10:38.43 and it was just a privilege to visit with them. 00:10:38.47\00:10:43.34 The people there are very industrious, 00:10:43.37\00:10:45.67 they are very hard working. 00:10:45.71\00:10:47.64 And we see the schools are kept neat and tidy, 00:10:47.68\00:10:52.01 you will have noticed that. 00:10:52.05\00:10:53.92 But there's some huge needs there. 00:10:53.95\00:10:56.82 Yes. 00:10:56.85\00:10:58.19 And I guess our biggest need is sponsorship, 00:10:58.22\00:11:01.19 once again 00:11:01.22\00:11:02.56 I keep saying that, but it's real. 00:11:02.59\00:11:05.53 And, or just supporting the Myanmar Education Fund 00:11:05.56\00:11:10.70 because it's a huge need. 00:11:10.73\00:11:12.70 And we want to grow our program in Myanmar. 00:11:12.73\00:11:16.00 You know, Myanmar is ripe for the harvest. 00:11:16.04\00:11:19.11 The people want to know about Jesus Christ. 00:11:19.14\00:11:21.78 And because of the way that Child Impact is set up, 00:11:21.81\00:11:25.65 it is basically doing evangelism 00:11:25.68\00:11:28.58 when the country doesn't really allow it 00:11:28.62\00:11:30.59 to be done publicly.
