Child Impact International is an organization giving hope, 00:00:07.34\00:00:11.07 previously called Asian Aid. 00:00:11.11\00:00:13.24 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.27\00:00:15.81 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:15.84\00:00:18.21 in the lives of disadvantaged children and their communities. 00:00:18.25\00:00:21.88 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.92\00:00:24.49 in the lives of children and those who are in need. 00:00:24.52\00:00:27.32 Serving communities in India, 00:00:27.36\00:00:28.89 Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:00:28.92\00:00:32.29 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:32.33\00:00:34.66 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.70\00:00:36.20 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:00:36.23\00:00:39.17 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:00:39.20\00:00:42.07 Driven by the dedication 00:00:42.10\00:00:43.54 to helping those who have the least, 00:00:43.57\00:00:45.67 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.71\00:00:47.64 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.68\00:00:49.84 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:49.88\00:00:52.41 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.45\00:00:54.52 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:54.55\00:00:57.65 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 00:00:57.69\00:01:00.56 and the blind children, 00:01:00.59\00:01:01.92 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:01.96\00:01:04.76 But above all, Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:04.79\00:01:08.63 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.66\00:01:11.93 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:11.97\00:01:14.67 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:14.70\00:01:16.44 Bobbili, a small town 00:01:32.89\00:01:34.72 near the coastal city of Vizag in India 00:01:34.76\00:01:37.13 has nothing to offer to a visitor. 00:01:37.16\00:01:39.29 Its streets often bustling and chaotic 00:01:39.33\00:01:41.86 are typical of rural towns in India. 00:01:41.90\00:01:43.70 Poverty is widespread 00:01:47.90\00:01:49.60 and people struggle to meet ends, 00:01:49.64\00:01:51.51 doing menial jobs 00:01:51.54\00:01:52.87 and often attending to paddy fields 00:01:52.91\00:01:54.64 owned by landlords. 00:01:54.68\00:01:56.61 Visits to villages around here 00:01:56.64\00:01:58.38 only amplify one's perception of abstract poverty 00:01:58.41\00:02:01.48 people live in on a daily basis. 00:02:01.52\00:02:04.59 But it is in this despairing and gloomy environment, 00:02:04.62\00:02:07.66 we often get to see and experience 00:02:07.69\00:02:09.66 hopefulness and optimism. 00:02:09.69\00:02:13.29 Over the last 15 years, Child Impact International 00:02:13.33\00:02:16.56 has undertaken numerous developmental work 00:02:16.60\00:02:19.17 in and around the Bobbili area. 00:02:19.20\00:02:20.94 It has supported schools through its sponsorship program 00:02:20.97\00:02:23.77 and built a school for the blind. 00:02:23.81\00:02:25.31 One of its recent projects is the construction 00:02:27.34\00:02:29.78 of a brand new orphanage in Karada village, 00:02:29.81\00:02:32.45 the Sunrise Children Home. 00:02:32.48\00:02:33.88 From its humble beginning in a cramped building in town, 00:02:42.49\00:02:45.56 the orphanage has shifted to a spacious campus 00:02:45.59\00:02:48.03 in the countryside, 00:02:48.06\00:02:49.63 situated about 10 miles from Bobbili, 00:02:49.66\00:02:52.17 the new campus gives the children 00:02:52.20\00:02:53.94 an ideal place to live, learn, and play. 00:02:53.97\00:02:56.87 How many of you like this room? 00:03:00.58\00:03:02.08 Okay. 00:03:04.45\00:03:05.78 So you want to sleep here? Yes! 00:03:05.81\00:03:08.08 You know, it's taken time to build the new orphanage 00:03:21.46\00:03:24.93 and the children have been brought along the journey. 00:03:24.97\00:03:27.37 So they were given an idea 00:03:27.40\00:03:28.84 that you're going to have a better home. 00:03:28.87\00:03:31.07 It's like asking, you're going to go to heaven 00:03:31.11\00:03:32.94 and we've got a better home. 00:03:32.97\00:03:34.68 So they had this idea of having a better home, 00:03:34.71\00:03:37.51 and they've been asking questions 00:03:37.55\00:03:39.18 as this whole thing was in progress, 00:03:39.21\00:03:41.48 and now they have it and they are just so excited. 00:03:41.52\00:03:44.45 It is such a wonderful place 00:03:44.49\00:03:46.35 to go from such a cramped environment 00:03:46.39\00:03:49.02 to such an expansive free environment. 00:03:49.06\00:03:53.46 The children still attend 00:04:03.51\00:04:04.84 the Seventh-day Adventist school in town. 00:04:04.87\00:04:07.14 But Sunrise Home has its own bus 00:04:07.18\00:04:09.04 that takes them to school every day. 00:04:09.08\00:04:11.15 And the bus ride is something 00:04:11.18\00:04:12.51 that children look forward to every morning. 00:04:12.55\00:04:14.32 August 2nd, 2014 was a special day 00:04:20.19\00:04:23.26 for Child Impact International and everyone at Sunrise Home, 00:04:23.29\00:04:26.96 a new boys' dorm was inaugurated 00:04:27.00\00:04:28.90 by renowned Adventist violinist, Jaime Jorge. 00:04:28.93\00:04:32.83 It was very emotional for me to be here 00:04:32.87\00:04:35.54 at the opening of the boys' dormitory. 00:04:35.57\00:04:38.54 It was just so great that Jaime Jorge could be here 00:04:38.57\00:04:41.31 to do the dedication 00:04:41.34\00:04:43.18 and arguably we could say it's the end of the project, 00:04:43.21\00:04:46.92 but it's not. 00:04:46.95\00:04:48.28 Yes, the donors have build a great facility, 00:04:48.32\00:04:51.79 but the ongoing need for orphans in this home, 00:04:51.82\00:04:55.42 the ongoing operating needs, 00:04:55.46\00:04:57.66 the ongoing needs to sponsorship simply means 00:04:57.69\00:05:01.66 it's not over. 00:05:01.70\00:05:03.03 Although there is ongoing need for sponsorship 00:05:06.37\00:05:08.74 and other needs at Sunrise Home, 00:05:08.77\00:05:10.67 it is encouraging knowing that 00:05:10.71\00:05:12.11 this facility has the capability 00:05:12.14\00:05:14.01 to double the number of children 00:05:14.04\00:05:15.61 and in the future, 00:05:15.64\00:05:16.98 there is facility to build another floor, 00:05:17.01\00:05:18.91 thereby having the capacity to facilitate 00:05:18.95\00:05:21.55 the ever increasing inflow of children 00:05:21.58\00:05:23.69 arriving at Sunrise Home each year. 00:05:23.72\00:05:26.25 In my union, we have 850,000 members 00:05:26.29\00:05:33.19 and there are hundreds of needs in this union, 00:05:33.23\00:05:36.13 especially there are orphan children, 00:05:36.16\00:05:38.17 there are semi-orphan children, 00:05:38.20\00:05:39.90 and therefore we really face challenge. 00:05:39.93\00:05:41.74 Today, expanding and adding these facilities 00:05:41.77\00:05:43.94 in the boys' hostel will really be a great blessing 00:05:43.97\00:05:46.41 because these children are adjusting somewhere 00:05:46.44\00:05:48.54 and they don't have proper facilities. 00:05:48.58\00:05:50.28 They want to feel with their friends 00:05:50.31\00:05:52.48 as if it is their own home 00:05:52.51\00:05:54.28 and this will be a unique identity 00:05:54.32\00:05:55.75 that will build confidence in them, 00:05:55.78\00:05:57.42 and they will really develop in the proper way 00:05:57.45\00:05:59.65 in the Adventist atmosphere. 00:05:59.69\00:06:01.12 Twelve-year-old Durga Prasad 00:06:27.12\00:06:28.98 and his 11-year-old brother Rajesh 00:06:29.02\00:06:31.22 came to Sunrise Home three years ago. 00:06:31.25\00:06:33.69 They were rescued from the streets 00:06:33.72\00:06:35.19 by a local NGO Child Line, 00:06:35.22\00:06:37.46 after a newspaper article appeared in a local daily 00:06:37.49\00:06:40.20 with the title "mother for sale." 00:06:40.23\00:06:42.46 Child Line immediately followed up the story 00:06:42.50\00:06:45.30 with the concerned people and rescued the boys 00:06:45.33\00:06:47.90 and took them in their custody. 00:06:47.94\00:06:51.94 After we brought them here, 00:06:51.97\00:06:53.68 we came to know that their father died 00:06:53.71\00:06:56.31 and the mother found another man, 00:06:56.34\00:06:58.35 and she moved in with him. 00:06:58.38\00:07:00.42 But he forced her into prostitution 00:07:00.45\00:07:03.18 and forced the boys on to the streets 00:07:03.22\00:07:05.15 to beg and sell newspaper and fruits. 00:07:05.19\00:07:08.32 He used that money, drinking and gambling. 00:07:08.36\00:07:11.09 Durga Prasad and Rajesh woke up every day 00:07:21.60\00:07:24.81 to the blaring sound of train horns 00:07:24.84\00:07:27.01 or the screeching halt of its iron wheels. 00:07:27.04\00:07:29.44 The buzz and hustle of the street 00:07:29.48\00:07:31.11 near the train station at Vizianagaram 00:07:31.15\00:07:33.55 was their domain 00:07:33.58\00:07:34.92 and the railway platform their shelter. 00:07:34.95\00:07:37.02 The boys were forced to go and beg 00:07:37.05\00:07:39.19 or steal by their mother's boyfriend, 00:07:39.22\00:07:41.29 and when they refused, they were beaten. 00:07:41.32\00:07:43.79 Fearing the beatings that awaited them at home, 00:07:43.83\00:07:45.96 they spend most of their time living on the railway platform, 00:07:45.99\00:07:49.16 earning some money selling fruits or begging. 00:07:49.20\00:07:51.83 After they were rescued 00:07:51.87\00:07:53.20 and taken into custody by Child Line, 00:07:53.23\00:07:55.24 Durga Prasad and Rajesh were brought to Sunrise Home. 00:07:55.27\00:07:58.24 I'm from Bobbili town 00:08:01.78\00:08:03.45 and I used to live very close 00:08:03.48\00:08:05.01 to where the old Sunrise Home was. 00:08:05.05\00:08:07.92 Then I informed my superiors about it 00:08:07.95\00:08:10.85 and recommended these two boys to Sunrise Home. 00:08:10.89\00:08:15.66 Sunrise Home is highly regarded throughout the district 00:08:15.69\00:08:18.79 for its work with the shelter it provides to orphaned 00:08:18.83\00:08:21.33 and abandoned children like Durga Prasad and Rajesh. 00:08:21.36\00:08:24.90 Most of the children are coming to Sunrise Home 00:08:24.93\00:08:27.54 recommended by police department, 00:08:27.57\00:08:30.91 and non-governmental organizations, 00:08:30.94\00:08:33.44 and the Child Line, 00:08:33.48\00:08:35.81 and rescued children, most of them are here, 00:08:35.84\00:08:38.75 the rescued children. 00:08:38.78\00:08:40.92 In this whole of the Vizianagaram district, 00:08:40.95\00:08:43.32 only this home is best home 00:08:43.35\00:08:45.75 and the government will recommend 00:08:45.79\00:08:47.36 all the children to stay here only. 00:08:47.39\00:08:50.03 Okay. Wow. 00:08:50.06\00:08:52.66 At our homes like Sunrise, 00:08:52.69\00:08:54.50 we have children from varied backgrounds, 00:08:54.53\00:08:57.27 varied stories, and honest 00:08:57.30\00:08:59.37 some of them are hard to comprehend, 00:08:59.40\00:09:01.54 and just like these two boys 00:09:01.57\00:09:03.17 who were found on a railway platform 00:09:03.20\00:09:06.34 at the train station, could you imagine it, 00:09:06.37\00:09:09.08 could you imagine living there 00:09:09.11\00:09:10.91 having to scrape up an existence? 00:09:10.95\00:09:13.72 They were exploited by many people 00:09:13.75\00:09:16.28 and they had no hope. 00:09:16.32\00:09:18.45 Now, at least they have come to Sunrise Home 00:09:18.49\00:09:21.36 where they have a new direction, 00:09:21.39\00:09:24.99 and now they have hope of an education, 00:09:25.03\00:09:27.80 they have a hope of the future, 00:09:27.83\00:09:29.96 and the Asian Aid sponsorship program 00:09:30.00\00:09:32.67 will have a big difference in their lives. 00:09:32.70\00:09:34.80 Durga Prasad and Rajesh are in a place 00:09:36.57\00:09:38.91 where they can leave behind 00:09:38.94\00:09:40.28 the fear of being beaten and exploited, 00:09:40.31\00:09:42.68 leave behind the struggles of growing up in the streets 00:09:42.71\00:09:45.65 and instead are in a safe and comfortable place, 00:09:45.68\00:09:48.78 a place where they don't feel like they're orphaned 00:09:48.82\00:09:51.15 or abandoned. 00:09:51.19\00:09:52.52 So by having an orphanage, 00:09:52.55\00:09:53.89 we can access these children 00:09:53.92\00:09:55.26 who really won't have the basics in life, 00:09:55.29\00:09:57.53 who now can have the basics in life to go forward. 00:09:57.56\00:10:01.36 So that's what orphanage is doing. 00:10:01.40\00:10:03.06 They get the children who really need help 00:10:03.10\00:10:06.13 and don't have anyone to help them. 00:10:06.17\00:10:09.97 Child Impact is giving them that help. 00:10:10.01\00:10:12.61 Child Impact is giving them that new life 00:10:12.64\00:10:15.28 through its special need schools, 00:10:15.31\00:10:16.88 at an orphanage like Sunrise Home, 00:10:16.91\00:10:18.78 and is giving them an opportunity 00:10:18.81\00:10:20.52 to receive a proper education. 00:10:20.55\00:10:22.58 One of the great blessing is 00:10:22.62\00:10:24.55 that we cannot do everything by on our own 00:10:24.59\00:10:26.96 because of certain reasons. 00:10:26.99\00:10:28.76 I thank God for special organizations like Asian Aid. 00:10:28.79\00:10:33.26 They are uniquely tuned to meet exactly our needs, 00:10:33.29\00:10:37.93 where we really need, 00:10:37.97\00:10:39.30 especially we need next generation 00:10:39.33\00:10:41.37 to be prepared for the church work 00:10:41.40\00:10:43.37 and these children who are trained up in the homes 00:10:43.41\00:10:46.21 and with their help, with their support, 00:10:46.24\00:10:48.54 we educate our poor children, they're the next generation, 00:10:48.58\00:10:51.88 faithful workers for the church. 00:10:51.91\00:10:53.92 And it is really transforming. 00:10:53.95\00:10:55.48 I really thank God, 00:10:55.52\00:10:56.85 every sponsor that is supporting this work, 00:10:56.89\00:10:59.15 every leader in this organization, 00:10:59.19\00:11:01.19 they are really doing the work with dedication and commitment. 00:11:01.22\00:11:04.89 They reach unto us, they openly talk their ideas 00:11:04.93\00:11:07.86 and we tell our needs, and they really fit in. 00:11:07.90\00:11:10.67 I'm proud of this important organization, 00:11:10.70\00:11:12.90 and they are truly beneficial to my union here 00:11:12.93\00:11:15.54 in East Central India. 00:11:15.57\00:11:17.67 It was painful for us to learn 00:11:17.71\00:11:19.21 that the boys' mother is still making her living 00:11:19.24\00:11:21.34 through prostitution 00:11:21.38\00:11:22.71 and does not know the whereabouts of her sons. 00:11:22.74\00:11:25.05 Taking the children away from the mother 00:11:25.08\00:11:27.08 may sound cruel and callous, 00:11:27.12\00:11:28.78 but extraordinary circumstances call for extraordinary measures 00:11:28.82\00:11:32.69 for the welfare and the future of the children. 00:11:32.72\00:11:35.62 Like Rajesh and Durga Prasad, there are so many children 00:11:35.66\00:11:38.79 who are having very bad family backgrounds. 00:11:38.83\00:11:42.60 Sunrise Home is giving them good directions in their lives. 00:11:42.63\00:11:48.30 Today, Child Impact International 00:11:48.34\00:11:50.47 is reaching out to children in need. 00:11:50.51\00:11:52.57 And Sunrise Home is a safe haven for these children, 00:11:52.61\00:11:55.78 providing not just their basic needs 00:11:55.81\00:11:57.78 and
