Child Impact International is an organization giving hope, 00:00:07.44\00:00:11.34 previously called Asian Aid. 00:00:11.37\00:00:13.31 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.34\00:00:16.01 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:16.04\00:00:18.25 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:18.28\00:00:20.25 and their communities. 00:00:20.28\00:00:21.88 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.92\00:00:24.35 in the lives of children 00:00:24.39\00:00:25.85 and those who are in need. 00:00:25.89\00:00:27.32 Serving communities in India, 00:00:27.36\00:00:28.86 Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:00:28.89\00:00:32.33 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:32.36\00:00:34.70 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.73\00:00:36.16 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:00:36.20\00:00:39.13 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:00:39.17\00:00:42.10 Driven by the dedication 00:00:42.14\00:00:43.51 to helping those who have the least, 00:00:43.54\00:00:45.71 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.74\00:00:47.71 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.74\00:00:49.88 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:49.91\00:00:52.31 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.35\00:00:54.52 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:54.55\00:00:57.62 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 00:00:57.65\00:01:00.56 and the blind children, 00:01:00.59\00:01:01.92 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:01.96\00:01:04.66 But above all, 00:01:04.69\00:01:06.03 Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:06.06\00:01:08.63 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.66\00:01:11.93 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:11.97\00:01:14.67 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:14.70\00:01:16.40 I've been in this position over eight years now, 00:01:21.14\00:01:24.35 and the privilege that I have in my role 00:01:24.38\00:01:26.82 is being able to visit the children 00:01:26.85\00:01:29.28 that you, the donors, support. 00:01:29.32\00:01:31.45 And as I meet them, I see the difference 00:01:31.49\00:01:33.99 that you make in their lives, 00:01:34.02\00:01:36.02 the difference you make 00:01:36.06\00:01:37.39 in where they live in their village, 00:01:37.43\00:01:39.19 the difference you make with their education. 00:01:39.23\00:01:41.60 And then finally when they get a job... 00:01:41.63\00:01:43.93 Just the other day in India, we met a bank manager. 00:01:43.97\00:01:47.60 He was brought up as a sponsored child 00:01:47.64\00:01:50.47 from a very poor village 00:01:50.51\00:01:52.37 and now he has a successful job, 00:01:52.41\00:01:54.88 he has a family, 00:01:54.91\00:01:56.24 and he is impacting the lives of others. 00:01:56.28\00:01:58.68 And, in fact, the amazing thing is 00:01:58.71\00:02:00.75 he is now sponsoring two children 00:02:00.78\00:02:03.39 in one of our programs. 00:02:03.42\00:02:06.69 Early when we were married, 00:02:06.72\00:02:08.26 Nick and I spent time over in India, 00:02:08.29\00:02:11.06 and were working for a mission, 00:02:11.09\00:02:12.43 or another mission organization for about six months. 00:02:12.46\00:02:16.23 And one of the opportunities we had was to be 00:02:16.26\00:02:18.17 in one of the schools 00:02:18.20\00:02:19.53 where children were being sponsored 00:02:19.57\00:02:22.07 by Child Impact International 00:02:22.10\00:02:23.61 in receiving education there 00:02:23.64\00:02:25.04 as well as clothing, food, shelter. 00:02:25.07\00:02:27.88 And at that time we were given the opportunity to meet kids 00:02:27.91\00:02:31.91 that still needed sponsors, and have... 00:02:31.95\00:02:34.68 We were able to meet and pick a kid 00:02:34.72\00:02:37.72 that we wanted to sponsor personally at that time. 00:02:37.75\00:02:41.56 So we got to meet him, I think play a little, 00:02:41.59\00:02:44.93 maybe a little cricket with him, 00:02:44.96\00:02:46.29 gave him a little bit of a gift, 00:02:46.33\00:02:48.06 and even though... 00:02:48.10\00:02:49.50 Since then the child that we're sponsoring has changed. 00:02:49.53\00:02:53.90 That's how we started, 00:02:53.94\00:02:55.27 and have decided to continue to sponsor a child 00:02:55.30\00:02:57.37 through Child Impact International. 00:02:57.41\00:02:59.87 I'd say that if you are interested 00:02:59.91\00:03:01.24 in sponsoring a child, 00:03:01.28\00:03:04.28 I think it's a great opportunity so 00:03:04.31\00:03:05.78 and you certainly should. 00:03:05.81\00:03:07.55 There's so many mission fields in the world, 00:03:07.58\00:03:09.75 you know, the kid who lives just down the street from you, 00:03:09.78\00:03:11.75 that's a mission field, 00:03:11.79\00:03:13.19 your own children, your own family, 00:03:13.22\00:03:14.56 that's a mission field 00:03:14.59\00:03:16.52 but, you know, 00:03:16.56\00:03:17.99 we were called to go into all nations 00:03:18.03\00:03:20.33 and make disciples. 00:03:20.36\00:03:21.70 And when you sponsor a child for a Christian education, 00:03:21.73\00:03:25.77 you know, it's more than just giving them education, 00:03:25.80\00:03:28.00 teaching them also about Christ, 00:03:28.04\00:03:29.77 and the plan of salvation. 00:03:29.80\00:03:31.77 And so, you know, it's gonna benefit that child, 00:03:31.81\00:03:34.98 it's gonna benefit that child's community and, 00:03:35.01\00:03:38.31 you know, the money 00:03:38.35\00:03:39.91 that we spend every month to support this child, 00:03:39.95\00:03:42.58 it's an easy sacrifice for us 00:03:42.62\00:03:44.99 but it makes just the world of difference in their lives. 00:03:45.02\00:03:49.19 Sponsoring children in activities like 00:03:49.22\00:03:54.03 these mission schools and opportunities 00:03:54.06\00:03:56.80 is a tremendous way to help 00:03:56.83\00:03:59.57 form the character of young people 00:03:59.60\00:04:02.80 as they look to the future. 00:04:02.84\00:04:04.37 They will never forget 00:04:04.41\00:04:06.31 their association in a Christian environment. 00:04:06.34\00:04:09.28 And by God's grace, many of them will become 00:04:09.31\00:04:12.38 members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:04:12.41\00:04:15.05 It is absolutely a powerful witness 00:04:15.08\00:04:18.45 to sponsor a child in Child Impact 00:04:18.49\00:04:21.92 and so many other organizations 00:04:21.96\00:04:24.93 that help young people to find Jesus. 00:04:24.96\00:04:29.46 Sponsoring a child not only has short-term effects, 00:04:29.50\00:04:34.04 but it has a long-term effect. 00:04:34.07\00:04:36.84 Sponsoring a child is investing in the character 00:04:36.87\00:04:40.28 of a young person for eternity. 00:04:40.31\00:04:43.01 We're taping this right here in Myanmar, 00:04:43.04\00:04:46.51 at the Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary, 00:04:46.55\00:04:49.92 and about one-third of the students 00:04:49.95\00:04:52.52 or one quarter of the students 00:04:52.55\00:04:54.62 are being sponsored by Child Impact. 00:04:54.66\00:04:57.59 People who become workers in God's church, 00:04:57.63\00:05:01.43 people who make an impact in the community 00:05:01.46\00:05:04.47 have been people who have been sponsored. 00:05:04.50\00:05:07.47 Your sponsorship is absolutely an investment 00:05:07.50\00:05:11.51 in the future of the church. 00:05:11.54\00:05:12.91 On my trip to India, 00:05:23.85\00:05:25.35 one of the highlights was the visit 00:05:25.39\00:05:27.56 to the blind school in a town called Bobbili. 00:05:27.59\00:05:31.13 The school is an Adventist church school, 00:05:31.16\00:05:33.73 but it is 100% funded by Child Impact 00:05:33.76\00:05:36.70 and Asian Aid Australia. 00:05:36.73\00:05:39.03 It was build just over 12 years ago, 00:05:39.07\00:05:41.50 thanks to the generosity of the McNeilus family. 00:05:41.54\00:05:44.67 And it is in the rural setting surrounded by lots of farms. 00:05:44.71\00:05:49.51 The school has over 160 students 00:05:49.54\00:05:51.98 from grade 1 to grade 12. 00:05:52.01\00:05:55.05 The students are either partially blind or fully blind, 00:05:55.08\00:05:59.29 and come mainly from poor farming communities all around. 00:05:59.32\00:06:04.46 When we arrived, 00:06:04.49\00:06:05.83 they gave us an amazing welcome. 00:06:05.86\00:06:08.60 They lined up on both sides, 00:06:08.63\00:06:11.13 they threw flowers on the road 00:06:11.17\00:06:13.13 and we walked through, 00:06:13.17\00:06:14.80 and then we had to shake the hand 00:06:14.84\00:06:16.60 of every single student. 00:06:16.64\00:06:18.91 They asked us questions, they touched us, 00:06:18.94\00:06:21.64 because they wanted to know what we were all about. 00:06:21.68\00:06:25.41 I was really moved by the excitement 00:06:25.45\00:06:27.88 that I saw in them. 00:06:27.92\00:06:29.25 They were genuinely interested in us. 00:06:29.28\00:06:32.52 We shared a beautiful evening that night, 00:06:32.55\00:06:34.59 we had a concert. 00:06:34.62\00:06:36.36 Some of them played instruments and then I did a part for them. 00:06:36.39\00:06:41.26 I talked to them and I played my violin. 00:06:41.30\00:06:44.17 I don't think many or most of them 00:06:44.20\00:06:46.53 had ever heard a violin before. 00:06:46.57\00:06:49.37 So it was really exciting. 00:06:49.40\00:06:51.21 There were two things that I remember in particular. 00:06:51.24\00:06:54.31 Number one, they listened intently 00:06:54.34\00:06:57.68 and then when they knew the songs, 00:06:57.71\00:06:59.68 they sang at the top of their lungs. 00:06:59.71\00:07:02.45 Number two, 00:07:02.48\00:07:03.82 they clapped so hard when every song was over. 00:07:03.85\00:07:07.92 It was a beautiful experience. 00:07:07.96\00:07:10.29 It is a marvelous place. 00:07:10.33\00:07:12.49 The facilities are great. 00:07:12.53\00:07:14.50 The classrooms are expansive and they are large, 00:07:14.53\00:07:17.93 but there are still some serious needs. 00:07:17.97\00:07:20.80 I'm delighted to have Jim Rennie, 00:07:20.84\00:07:22.20 the CEO of Child Impact here again today. 00:07:22.24\00:07:25.34 Jim, why is this school so important? 00:07:25.37\00:07:29.84 Well, first of all, Jaime, 00:07:29.88\00:07:31.21 it's one of my favorite schools to visit in India. 00:07:31.25\00:07:34.02 The kids just are so hungry to talk to you to, 00:07:34.05\00:07:38.19 to find out about you 00:07:38.22\00:07:40.06 and they touch you, of course, 00:07:40.09\00:07:41.72 because of they can't see... 00:07:41.76\00:07:43.49 They want to feel you, yes. They want to feel and see you. 00:07:43.53\00:07:47.03 This school is important because it fulfills a need 00:07:47.06\00:07:51.77 that no one else is delivering in that region of India. 00:07:51.80\00:07:56.27 First of all, these kids come from very, very poor, 00:07:56.30\00:08:00.48 mainly farming families. 00:08:00.51\00:08:03.35 And when you're born blind in a village 00:08:03.38\00:08:07.12 in that part of India, 00:08:07.15\00:08:09.18 there's no way to go. 00:08:09.22\00:08:10.79 The parents have no idea what to do. 00:08:10.82\00:08:13.69 There's an element of shame in having a blind child. 00:08:13.72\00:08:17.69 And so, this school fulfills the need, 00:08:17.73\00:08:22.20 and I've seen so many of the parents 00:08:22.23\00:08:24.67 of the blind children are so proud 00:08:24.70\00:08:29.27 that their child is getting an education. 00:08:29.30\00:08:32.47 And I went to the blind school one day 00:08:32.51\00:08:36.04 and there was a seven-year-old girl there, 00:08:36.08\00:08:39.11 and she had just come to the school 00:08:39.15\00:08:41.82 and to be honest, it was distressing. 00:08:41.85\00:08:44.55 She couldn't talk, her head was down, 00:08:44.59\00:08:47.96 she would sit in the corner, 00:08:47.99\00:08:51.03 it was just terrible. 00:08:51.06\00:08:52.63 And they had found her at her house 00:08:52.66\00:08:56.30 and she had been locked in her room 00:08:56.33\00:08:58.67 for three to four years. 00:08:58.70\00:09:00.80 The parents were just so embarrassed 00:09:00.84\00:09:03.14 and didn't know what to do. 00:09:03.17\00:09:05.21 But the exciting thing was, 00:09:05.24\00:09:06.98 when I went back 00:09:07.01\00:09:08.34 to the blind school a year later, 00:09:08.38\00:09:10.88 I just about came to tears 00:09:10.91\00:09:12.95 because here she was... 00:09:12.98\00:09:14.75 She was playing with the children. 00:09:14.78\00:09:17.12 I saw her singing, I saw her praying, 00:09:17.15\00:09:21.26 just amazing change. 00:09:21.29\00:09:23.69 It was all there, 00:09:23.73\00:09:25.13 but she had no way of letting it out. 00:09:25.16\00:09:27.70 So this school makes a huge difference 00:09:27.73\00:09:30.90 with blind children, 00:09:30.93\00:09:32.57 but the need is just overpowering 00:09:32.60\00:09:35.40 from the environment in which they come. 00:09:35.44\00:09:38.97 Yes. 00:09:39.01\00:09:40.48 And even though it is a beautiful facility 00:09:40.51\00:09:42.78 as I've mentioned, 00:09:42.81\00:09:44.51 what are the needs that we currently have there?
