00:07 Child Impact International is an organization giving hope,
00:11 previously called Asian Aid. 00:13 Child Impact International is an organization 00:15 fostering permanent positive change 00:18 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:20 and their communities. 00:21 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:24 in the lives of children and those who are in need. 00:27 Serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, 00:30 Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:32 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:34 For the last 50 years, 00:36 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:39 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:42 Driven by the dedication 00:43 to helping those who have the least, 00:45 Child Impact is an organization 00:47 focused on the welfare of children, 00:49 implementing diverse development projects 00:52 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:54 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:57 to providing an education for orphans, 00:59 deaf, and the blind children, 01:01 giving them a sense of place, a home. 01:04 But above all, 01:05 Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 01:08 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 01:11 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 01:14 This is Hope In Motion. 01:20 Our television series Hope In Motion 01:22 has been a big success 01:24 and we want to continue 01:26 to share with you 01:27 some of the field stories 01:28 that we have filmed over the years. 01:31 So just from time to time, 01:33 it may refer to Asian Aid 01:35 as we reflect on these great stories 01:38 as we share them with you. 01:41 Welcome to Myanmar. 01:43 I am standing on the bank 01:45 of the Delta region of this country 01:47 and as we look out onto the river, 01:49 this plays an integral part 01:51 in the lives and economy 01:52 of the people in this country, 01:54 through fishing as well as transportation. 01:58 The challenge is that a decent education 02:01 is expensive, most people can't afford it. 02:04 But this is where 02:06 an organizational like Asian Aid 02:08 has such a great deal of impact. 02:10 They are concerned and committed 02:12 to the welfare of children in need here. 02:16 Join me on a journey 02:18 as we see what Asian Aid is doing 02:21 to strengthen and further the mission 02:24 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Myanmar. 02:38 Visiting a village that day was a revelation. 02:42 It opened my eyes to the struggles 02:44 and hardships of the poor in a way 02:47 that you can only understand by being there. 02:50 It gave me a new insight 02:52 into the role our schools play 02:55 in the mission field, 02:56 and the impact organizations like Asian Aid 02:59 has in supporting the church in its mission. 03:04 Even though the church work 03:05 started over a 100 years ago in Myanmar, 03:08 the past 50 years have been a huge challenge 03:11 for the church 03:12 because of unfavorable political situations 03:15 that prevailed here. 03:16 And the churches had great challenges 03:19 in promoting Christian education 03:21 across this Buddhist country. 03:23 But the situation has changed 03:25 and the Lord has opened doors 03:27 and opportunities for us 03:28 to expand His work in Myanmar. 03:32 For us to move forward in Myanmar in a positive way, 03:35 we established the Asian Aid, 03:38 Educate Myanmar Fund. 03:40 The purpose of this fund 03:42 is to help sponsor the 600 children 03:45 that we've taken. 03:46 We don't have sponsors for them. 03:48 So stage one of the Educate Myanmar Fund 03:51 is to help sponsor those 600 children 03:55 while we find sponsors. 03:57 The second way is obviously 03:59 to sponsor one or more Myanmar children, 04:03 which you can do through 04:04 the Asian Aid sponsorship system. 04:07 The other need is that these mission schools 04:10 need resources in the classroom, 04:12 they're growing so fast. 04:14 So the Asian Aid Myanmar Fund 04:16 will be totally committed to helping 04:19 the Adventist schools in Myanmar. 04:22 And the critical thing is that 100% 04:26 of the money sent to Myanmar 04:28 goes direct to these needy schools, 04:31 mainly for sponsorship 04:33 but also to help develop these schools. 04:37 The Educate Myanmar Fund 04:39 that Asian Aid operates to sponsor children 04:42 addresses another important issue 04:45 and that is the issue of congestion 04:47 in the dorms and other infrastructural needs. 04:51 Visiting one of the girls' dorm that day, 04:54 it was very evident to me 04:56 that the boarding facilities lacked 04:58 a conducive living environment. 05:09 Yes. We need more rooms. 05:11 Okay. 05:13 Thank you very much. 05:14 Mm-hmm. Good. 05:22 I just finished a tour of the girls' dorm, 05:25 but the segment that I walked around, 05:27 it's pretty crowded, 05:29 in fact, there are 51 girls 05:31 that are rooming in that area. 05:33 They sleep on a hard surface. 05:35 And so we want to make it possible for them 05:38 to have improved conditions. 05:41 Now where they come from is a lot more disadvantaged, 05:45 so they are really excited 05:46 and happy to be here. 05:48 We want to be able to get more of those young people 05:50 from those villages into here 05:53 so that they can study and learn. 06:11 Jim led me to the Adventist high school 06:13 that was situated right across the road 06:15 from the seminary. 06:17 As we went around, 06:19 I came across the same infrastructural needs 06:22 that prevailed in the seminary, 06:24 but to me what was encouraging 06:27 was the fact that in spite of the difficult circumstances 06:30 and situations, 06:32 children were sitting in classrooms 06:34 learning, receiving an education, 06:36 a Christian education. 06:39 How exciting it is to witness 06:42 and participate in the development 06:44 of a child's future. 06:46 Going around the campus 06:47 and talking to students and staff, 06:50 I saw the role Asian Aid, 06:52 and more importantly, you, 06:53 the sponsors are playing in the lives 06:57 of these children 06:58 that come from such impoverished backgrounds. 07:03 They say that seeing is believing. 07:05 Well, you know what? 07:06 This is it right here. 07:08 It's very exciting behind me, 07:10 beautiful, wonderful young people learning. 07:14 If you're a sponsor, I want you to check this out, 07:17 and if you're not, 07:19 I want you to look at these young people, 07:21 and perhaps catch the joy, 07:23 the spark and the spirit 07:25 to be able to do the same 07:26 and make a difference in the lives 07:28 of one of these young people. 07:41 Students who received scholarship 07:45 and obtained Adventist education, 07:48 now they are prospering in their ministry 07:52 as well as in outside jobs. 07:55 For instance, 07:58 some are now working in the institution. 08:01 Some are in the mission field, 08:04 so I really thank God 08:07 for this sponsorship program. 08:13 The sponsorship for the children 08:14 is very important 08:16 because when we look Adventist family, 08:20 average of the families 08:24 are trying for their daily foods. 08:28 So that it is very difficult 08:30 to send their children to the college 08:33 and sponsor their children. 08:35 So when the children get sponsorship, 08:39 they continue to their education 08:43 and when they got the sponsorship, 08:50 they study and when they finish, 08:52 some can work in the denomination 08:56 and some work outside, 08:58 and at the same time, 09:00 they can be a good witness 09:03 and testimonies to other. 09:05 They can tell about the love of Jesus. 09:09 This was important for me, 09:11 the fact that Asian Aid was contributing 09:13 to the growth of the church in Myanmar, 09:15 a frontier mission field is good news. 09:19 As I mentioned earlier, 09:20 public evangelism in Myanmar is banned, 09:23 and so Asian Aid's involvement in our schools 09:26 plays a key role 09:28 in the growth of the church. 09:30 I do believe that Asian Aid is in tuned 09:33 with the mission of the church. 09:35 The mission of the church 09:36 is to prepare men and women, 09:39 and to prepare the people 09:40 that believe in God for soul winning. 09:44 And Asian Aid is offering that particular opportunity. 09:48 There are 100% in tune 09:51 with the mission of this church. 09:53 All right. 09:54 Here she is. 09:58 Hi, there. It's nice to me you. 10:01 Nice to meet you. 10:02 I have heard a lot about this young lady. 10:04 Yes. 10:13 She also has the interest in teaching. 10:16 Working here and also, it's a calling from God, 10:20 so she felt that kind of calling from the Lord, 10:22 and that's the reason why she is here. 10:25 Okay. Fantastic. 10:27 Well, I shared with you that we had a special story 10:30 before the break, and here she is Mia. 10:33 Mia is a recipient of our sponsorship program 10:37 through Asian Aid. 10:38 She was able to come to the school. 10:40 She finished her education 10:42 and she felt a calling from God 10:45 to go into teaching, 10:46 and that's why she's here, 10:48 teaching these precious children. 10:51 This is what it's all about, 10:52 this is the story of hope, 10:54 this is a story of Asian Aid, 10:56 and you can be a part of that, 10:58 as we make it possible for children 11:00 to have an education, 11:02 come to know Jesus 11:04 and share with the world. 11:08 Mia's real name is May Thuzar Tun, 11:11 but she preferred to be called Mia. 11:14 She is a 24-year-old Bachelor of Arts graduate 11:17 from the seminary. 11:19 Mia is a fine example 11:20 of what a simple gesture 11:22 of sponsoring a child's education 11:24 can achieve. 11:26 It achieves far beyond its intended purpose 11:29 of providing a children's education. 11:31 It gives them hope for the future. 11:34 Meeting Mia that day 11:36 also made me realize 11:38 that she was one of the lucky few. 11:40 Many children across Myanmar, 11:43 especially in rural areas 11:45 do not have this opportunity. 11:58 Being in this place, 12:00 a Christian school in the heart of Myanmar, 12:04 reminds me of when I was a little boy. 12:07 You see, I lived in a communist country. 12:09 And it was impossible 12:11 to have Christian schools there. 12:13 My parents dreamed 12:14 of taking my sister and me to a place 12:17 where we should 12:18 not only be able to worship God freely, 12:21 but also have a Christian education. 12:23 Well, Asian Aid is making it possible 12:25 for hundreds of young people 12:27 here in Myanmar 12:28 to have just that. 12:30 Would you consider partnering with us 12:32 to make a huge difference in the life 12:34 of a young person, 12:36 so that they can come to know Jesus, 12:38 have a Christian education 12:40 and share His love with others? 12:43 I was encouraged 12:44 by Asian Aid's plans for Myanmar. 12:47 Asian Aid is an organization 12:49 that wants to make a significant contribution 12:52 in the lives of needy children. 12:54 Today, Asian Aid is making it possible 12:57 to give them this opportunity 12:59 to not just receive an education, 13:02 but an opportunity towards eternal life. 13:07 Children and their future are very important to me. 13:11 Those are things that are close to my heart. 13:13 And two years ago, 13:14 Asian Aid invited me to go 13:16 on a life changing trip to India. 13:19 Well, this time, 13:20 I have joined them on a trip to Myanmar. 13:23 During our time here, 13:25 we have visited all kinds of interesting places. 13:28 We've been to pagodas. 13:30 We've also been to villages 13:32 where poverty is visible everywhere. 13:35 I've also been on the campus 13:37 of some of our schools. 13:38 I had the opportunity to play 13:40 with a group of beautiful young ladies 13:42 who play the violin. 13:43 I am seeing these young people 13:46 whose lives are being changed 13:48 because of the sponsorship program. 13:51 They have a Christian education, 13:52 they have hope 13:54 and they will have a future. 13:55 In fact, I met a young lady 13:56 who is now the teacher at the preschool. 13:59 She went through our program, 14:01 she was sponsored, she graduated 14:03 and now she is a teacher. 14:05 What a joy it is to be able to make an impact 14:08 in the lives of so many young people. 14:10 Would you be willing to partner with us? 14:13 Would you be willing to help change a life 14:15 and bring future and Jesus 14:17 to a young person in Myanmar? |
