Child Impact International is an organization giving hope, 00:00:07.24\00:00:11.17 previously called Asian Aid. 00:00:11.21\00:00:13.14 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.17\00:00:15.84 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:15.88\00:00:18.11 in the lives of disadvantaged children and their communities. 00:00:18.15\00:00:21.78 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.82\00:00:24.29 in the lives of children and those who are in need. 00:00:24.32\00:00:27.26 Serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, 00:00:27.29\00:00:30.43 Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:00:30.46\00:00:32.23 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:32.26\00:00:34.66 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.70\00:00:36.06 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:00:36.10\00:00:39.07 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:00:39.10\00:00:42.00 Driven by the dedication 00:00:42.04\00:00:43.37 to helping those who have the least, 00:00:43.41\00:00:45.57 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.61\00:00:47.61 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.64\00:00:49.81 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:49.84\00:00:52.31 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.35\00:00:54.45 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:54.48\00:00:57.49 to providing an education for orphans, 00:00:57.52\00:00:59.82 deaf, and the blind children, 00:00:59.85\00:01:01.82 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:01.86\00:01:04.53 But above all, 00:01:04.56\00:01:05.89 Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:05.93\00:01:08.53 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.56\00:01:11.87 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:11.90\00:01:14.57 This is Hope In Motion. 00:01:14.60\00:01:16.24 A couple of years ago, Jean Boonstra, 00:01:19.77\00:01:22.31 associate speaker of Voice of Prophecy 00:01:22.34\00:01:24.75 visited India with Child Impact International. 00:01:24.78\00:01:30.05 During her trip to India, Jean met some amazing people 00:01:30.09\00:01:33.32 who are the driving force 00:01:33.36\00:01:34.69 behind Child Impact's mission to reach out to those in need. 00:01:34.72\00:01:38.19 She met with Anita, 00:01:38.23\00:01:39.56 who was in charge of Child Impact's Operation 00:01:39.59\00:01:41.90 Child Rescue program in India. 00:01:41.93\00:01:44.23 Operation Child Rescue is a program that rescues 00:01:44.27\00:01:47.47 and rehabilitates girls who are trafficked 00:01:47.50\00:01:49.90 and sold as prostitutes in the sex industry. 00:01:49.94\00:01:52.91 Jean got to talk to Anita and she shared with her 00:01:52.94\00:01:55.74 the challenges and the dangers 00:01:55.78\00:01:57.35 that she and her team face in rescuing these girls. 00:01:57.38\00:02:00.72 So, Anita, after you go in, 00:02:00.75\00:02:03.15 you and your team, 00:02:03.18\00:02:04.52 and you actually go in on these raids 00:02:04.55\00:02:05.89 yourself personally, these girls, 00:02:05.92\00:02:08.42 you work with them for little while, 00:02:08.46\00:02:10.23 then what's the next step? 00:02:10.26\00:02:11.59 How do they transition from that life 00:02:11.63\00:02:15.80 back to somewhat a regular life? 00:02:15.83\00:02:19.00 Once we finish the rescues, 00:02:19.03\00:02:20.67 we take them to the police station 00:02:20.70\00:02:23.67 for a little bit 00:02:23.71\00:02:25.51 where their stories are taken, their photos are taken, 00:02:25.54\00:02:27.88 and then we have to take them 00:02:27.91\00:02:30.68 to a government shelter according to the law. 00:02:30.71\00:02:34.32 The first place after their rescue 00:02:34.35\00:02:36.18 has to be the government shelter. 00:02:36.22\00:02:38.12 And these are basically sets of buildings with staff, 00:02:38.15\00:02:43.79 but they're not specific to trafficked victims. 00:02:43.83\00:02:46.93 So you can have abandoned girls there, 00:02:46.96\00:02:49.16 you can have a pregnant mother there, 00:02:49.20\00:02:52.30 you know, pre-marital, 00:02:52.33\00:02:54.80 you can have someone who has lost their family, 00:02:54.84\00:02:58.77 you can have somebody who's lost, 00:02:58.81\00:03:01.08 got off a train at the wrong stop, 00:03:01.11\00:03:02.98 so just a mixed group of people inside that place 00:03:03.01\00:03:06.85 and these girls are taken to that place. 00:03:06.88\00:03:08.78 Usually, 00:03:08.82\00:03:10.15 we do the rescues quite late at night. 00:03:10.19\00:03:13.02 For that surprise factor. 00:03:13.05\00:03:14.39 Yes. Yeah. 00:03:14.42\00:03:15.76 And so between about 2 or 3 A.M., 00:03:15.79\00:03:18.03 we end up in this place. 00:03:18.06\00:03:19.56 So the girls are, you know, 00:03:19.59\00:03:22.03 there are about three gates 00:03:22.06\00:03:25.17 before you get inside the place. 00:03:25.20\00:03:26.84 It's almost like a jail. 00:03:26.87\00:03:28.54 It looks like that. It's... 00:03:28.57\00:03:30.17 Sounds intimidating. It is. 00:03:30.21\00:03:31.87 And then once there, 00:03:31.91\00:03:34.74 the girl's case has to come up for hearing 00:03:34.78\00:03:37.98 and we have to find out their backgrounds. 00:03:38.01\00:03:41.92 Many times, because it's a government run shelter, 00:03:41.95\00:03:45.32 the traffickers can end up coming right there. 00:03:45.35\00:03:47.92 Really? Yeah. 00:03:47.96\00:03:49.29 They pose as an aunt, 00:03:49.32\00:03:50.66 a mother, a sister, a brother, 00:03:50.69\00:03:53.19 the only relative in that place. 00:03:53.23\00:03:55.76 And because they have so many cases 00:03:55.80\00:03:58.63 and so many people turning up, 00:03:58.67\00:04:02.47 they don't check credentials. 00:04:02.50\00:04:04.87 And so they can turn up with, you know, a false document 00:04:04.91\00:04:09.21 and we have had many such ones. 00:04:09.24\00:04:11.75 And they can release the girl or they get to see the girl, 00:04:11.78\00:04:14.22 intimidate her more 00:04:14.25\00:04:15.98 or promise to get them out of that place 00:04:16.02\00:04:18.05 because by then, 00:04:18.09\00:04:19.42 the girls really want to get out of that place, 00:04:19.45\00:04:20.79 they don't speak the local language, 00:04:20.82\00:04:22.22 the food is not something that they like. 00:04:22.26\00:04:25.43 Government issued food essentially, yeah. 00:04:25.46\00:04:28.06 And then many times they have told us, 00:04:28.10\00:04:29.43 there are lice in the food or lice in the coffee. 00:04:29.46\00:04:31.60 Oh, my. 00:04:31.63\00:04:32.97 You know, yeah 00:04:33.00\00:04:34.34 and the others are really mean to them 00:04:34.37\00:04:35.70 because they find out that they have been involved in sex, 00:04:35.74\00:04:39.04 commercial sex, and they label them, 00:04:39.07\00:04:41.21 the stigma of being in that place. 00:04:41.24\00:04:45.08 You know, you just want to get out. 00:04:45.11\00:04:46.45 They are desperate to get out. 00:04:46.48\00:04:47.82 Many times these girls have tried to cut their wrists 00:04:47.85\00:04:50.99 and we get a call to say, 00:04:51.02\00:04:52.35 "Please come and take the girls you rescued out of this place 00:04:52.39\00:04:54.89 because they're disturbing everybody else." 00:04:54.92\00:04:57.19 And you go there and they say, 00:04:57.23\00:04:58.66 "We just want to go out of this place. 00:04:58.69\00:05:00.16 The brothel was better." 00:05:00.20\00:05:01.93 You know, so harsh. Sounds horrible. 00:05:01.96\00:05:03.43 So harsh. 00:05:03.47\00:05:04.80 How many days or how much time are they 00:05:04.83\00:05:06.97 in this place generally? 00:05:07.00\00:05:08.87 Well, it can be anything between two months 00:05:08.90\00:05:11.34 to two years. 00:05:11.37\00:05:12.94 Oh, wow. 00:05:12.97\00:05:14.31 Are they cared for, 00:05:14.34\00:05:15.68 are their physical needs, I mean... 00:05:15.71\00:05:17.35 Oh, yes. I mean, I hate to be very... 00:05:17.38\00:05:20.78 I hate to talk about it, 00:05:20.82\00:05:22.18 but the life they were living in the brothel, 00:05:22.22\00:05:24.75 they had a lot of physical injuries I assume. 00:05:24.79\00:05:28.42 Obviously, it's emotional and mental, 00:05:28.46\00:05:30.06 are those things addressed at all in the government home? 00:05:30.09\00:05:34.80 The government does provide a shelter, 00:05:34.83\00:05:36.70 so there is food. 00:05:36.73\00:05:38.07 There is a sense of... 00:05:38.10\00:05:41.07 They have water and clothes 00:05:41.10\00:05:43.84 and people talk to them, 00:05:43.87\00:05:45.51 but they're abused sometimes in different ways. 00:05:45.54\00:05:48.34 There's a lot of sexual abuse 00:05:48.38\00:05:49.71 that happens within those shelters 00:05:49.74\00:05:51.68 especially to the younger children. 00:05:51.71\00:05:54.18 We did a rescue of boys 00:05:54.22\00:05:56.52 who had been trafficked from Bihar to Bangalore 00:05:56.55\00:05:59.95 for labor 00:05:59.99\00:06:01.32 and some of these boys were aged 9 to 12. 00:06:01.36\00:06:04.89 And when we visited them about a week later, 00:06:04.93\00:06:07.83 a couple of them said, 00:06:07.86\00:06:09.46 they didn't like what older boys were doing to them, 00:06:09.50\00:06:12.30 which is implying sexual abuse inside a government shelter 00:06:12.33\00:06:16.37 that is meant to be a protective place. 00:06:16.40\00:06:19.67 It sounds like it's taking them from a bad situation 00:06:19.71\00:06:25.01 and putting them in a so-so situation 00:06:25.05\00:06:27.62 and in that specific case, a worse situation. 00:06:27.65\00:06:30.39 It's true. 00:06:30.42\00:06:31.75 So it doesn't sound like it's an answer, 00:06:31.79\00:06:33.49 but you also don't have a choice. 00:06:33.52\00:06:35.86 Yes. 00:06:35.89\00:06:37.23 So, Anita, you are Christian, 00:06:37.26\00:06:41.46 what difference would it make to be able to take these girls 00:06:41.50\00:06:44.73 and put them in a Christian facility 00:06:44.77\00:06:47.37 where they were nurtured and cared for specifically? 00:06:47.40\00:06:51.91 Now, Jean, you are talking about a vision that 00:06:51.94\00:06:54.54 I have for this, for these girls, 00:06:54.58\00:06:56.81 every girl who is rescued. 00:06:56.85\00:06:58.91 You know, the sense of hopelessness 00:06:58.95\00:07:00.28 inside that place 00:07:00.32\00:07:01.65 when we walk into those brothels 00:07:01.68\00:07:03.72 or when we go into those places 00:07:03.75\00:07:05.55 where they are being forced to hide or to overwork, 00:07:05.59\00:07:10.63 there is just a deep sense of despair 00:07:10.66\00:07:14.06 and a darkness that is so obvious to us. 00:07:14.10\00:07:17.47 And when we get them out of that place 00:07:17.50\00:07:19.93 what we want to give them to replace 00:07:19.97\00:07:21.74 that is the sense of hope that God cares about them, 00:07:21.77\00:07:25.61 that there is a future that He can build, 00:07:25.64\00:07:28.44 and that He can restore, 00:07:28.48\00:07:29.81 and that no matter what has happened to them, 00:07:29.84\00:07:32.55 they are still made in the image of God 00:07:32.58\00:07:34.72 and nobody can destroy that. 00:07:34.75\00:07:37.05 And nothing can, nothing can mar that. 00:07:37.09\00:07:41.02 But you see they've never been told that, 00:07:41.06\00:07:43.73 they've been so abused inside that place that they, 00:07:43.76\00:07:47.76 they couldn't care about themselves. 00:07:47.80\00:07:50.00 So we in our home will have that opportunity 00:07:50.03\00:07:54.17 right from the start to just love on them, 00:07:54.20\00:07:57.47 to be able to give them that sense of hope 00:07:57.51\00:08:01.44 that they need not fear anymore, 00:08:01.48\00:08:03.48 they're not in a... 00:08:03.51\00:08:04.85 They're not in a place that anyone's gonna abuse them. 00:08:04.88\00:08:07.85 In fact, they're gonna receive the opposite, 00:08:07.88\00:08:09.92 that there will be a sense of freedom 00:08:09.95\00:08:12.19 within that place 00:08:12.22\00:08:14.12 where they can make choices 00:08:14.16\00:08:16.09 and that those choices will be guided 00:08:16.12\00:08:19.03 by good counseling and that they will have options 00:08:19.06\00:08:22.60 whether they learn a new trade 00:08:22.63\00:08:24.17 or whether they go back to visit family. 00:08:24.20\00:08:27.14 It will all be under, 00:08:27.17\00:08:29.14 under careful observation and supervision 00:08:29.17\00:08:31.87 to ensure that the best happens for these girls. 00:08:31.91\00:08:35.94 I think part of the story 00:08:35.98\00:08:37.91 that you tell that really breaks my heart 00:08:37.95\00:08:40.65 is when you share how these girls 00:08:40.68\00:08:43.08 once they are rescued some of them, 00:08:43.12\00:08:45.65 a certain percentage of them do go back to that way of life 00:08:45.69\00:08:49.36 because of the shame, 00:08:49.39\00:08:50.73 because they don't feel an option. 00:08:50.76\00:08:53.70 Have you seen the difference 00:08:53.73\00:08:56.53 that Christ makes for the girls? 00:08:56.56\00:08:58.73 Is that the difference that keeps them 00:08:58.77\00:09:01.10 from going back to their lifestyle? 00:09:01.14\00:09:03.74 I think it is the main difference, Jean. 00:09:03.77\00:09:07.01 I mean, to be able to pray with the girls 00:09:07.04\00:09:09.48 and we do pray with the girls. 00:09:09.51\00:09:11.45 You know that I told you, we get some private time 00:09:11.48\00:09:14.15 either at the police station or at the brothel 00:09:14.18\00:09:16.05 before we take them to the government shelter. 00:09:16.08\00:09:18.79 We almost always talk to them about God and pray with them 00:09:18.82\00:09:23.06 because that's the only private time we'll get 00:09:23.09\00:09:26.06 before we are under supervised visits 00:09:26.09\00:09:29.33 in the government shelter. 00:09:29.36\00:09:30.87 But if we had our home, 00:09:30.90\00:09:32.53 we can pray with them every day, 00:09:32.57\00:09:33.97 we can pray with them and counsel them, 00:09:34.00\00:09:35.84 and tell them about a God who loves them, 00:09:35.87\00:09:38.64 and help them to come to terms with that. 00:09:38.67\00:09:40.54 I mean, many of them ask us, 00:09:40.58\00:09:42.88 "Why do you want to do this for us? 00:09:42.91\00:09:45.38 You know, why would you be here?" 00:09:45.41\00:09:46.82 Because I always tell them, "I'm a mother myself. 00:09:46.85\00:09:49.98 You know, I have two daughters, 00:09:50.02\00:09:51.35 I know what it feels like to be inside this place 00:09:51.39\00:09:55.26 wondering what's gonna happen next." 00:09:55.29\00:09:57.73 And they always say, "Why do you take this risk?" 00:09:57.76\00:10:00.43 And I tell them, "It's because 00:10:00.46\00:10:02.93 God has called some of us to these things 00:10:02.96\00:10:05.20 and because it's for God who took a risk for us. 00:10:05.23\00:10:08.17 I mean, that He came for us 00:10:08.20\00:10:10.21 that we might have a life that is free." 00:10:10.24\00:10:12.71 And, you know, 00:10:12.74\00:10:14.31 they are so open to listening to the gospel, 00:10:14.34\00:10:17.68 to knowing, 00:10:17.71\00:10:19.41 but the most important thing, Jean, 00:10:19.45\00:10:21.65 is for them to see the gospel in action 00:10:21.68\00:10:24.22 and that's what we manage to do there. 00:10:24.25\00:10:26.65 Okay. 00:10:26.69\00:10:28.02 But what drives you each and every day 00:10:28.06\00:10:30.49 to continue to put your own personal life in danger? 00:10:30.53\00:10:34.33 You're on the frontlines doing this 00:10:34.36\00:10:36.10 and I imagine your husband worries. 00:10:36.13\00:10:39.23 What keeps you going to do this? 00:10:39.27\00:10:43.44 I think this, the call that God had on my life 00:10:43.47\00:10:46.27 and which I realized about 10 years ago 00:10:46.31\00:10:49.04 when I went out on my first rescue mission, 00:10:49.08\00:10:52.91 just the thought of these girls out there and that, 00:10:52.95\00:10:58.42 you know, something might happen to them, 00:10:58.45\00:10:59.95 that they may never hear about a God 00:10:59.99\00:11:02.72 who loves them. 00:11:02.76\00:11:04.09 Being an Indian women myself, 00:11:04.13\00:11:05.49 a mother of daughters 00:11:05.53\00:11:08.53 just wanting to do the best that we can for these girls. 00:11:08.56\00:11:13.74 It's funny, I never, I never was a brave 00:11:13.77\00:11:15.60 or courageous person growing up. 00:11:15.64\00:11:17.47 In fact, I was very timid. I can't believe it. 00:11:17.51\00:11:19.17 Very timid, very shy. 00:11:19.21\00:11:20.54 Really? Yeah. 00:11:20.58\00:11:22.18 I hated standing up in front of anything, but... 00:11:22.21\00:11:25.81 And I still am very afraid before we go on a rescue. 00:11:25.85\00:11:28.48 Everybody knows that I have my private time, 00:11:28.52\00:11:31.59 but when we finish the prayer 00:11:31.62\00:11:33.92 before the raiding team is out of the door, 00:11:33.96\00:11:38.36 I know that God has gone before us 00:11:38.39\00:11:40.40 and He's already there. 00:11:40.43\00:11:42.03 I mean, there are times, Jean, 00:11:42.06\00:11:43.40 that we search the building for the girls 00:11:43.43\00:11:46.74 and we just don't know where they've hidden them. 00:11:46.77\00:11:49.57 And somehow God shows us where that hidden place is, 00:11:49.60\00:11:53.98 whether it's, you know, a hole in the wall 00:11:54.01\00:11:56.91 that has been sealed up 00:11:56.95\00:11:58.48 and we have to break through that 00:11:58.51\00:11:59.95 or whether it's a reception, 00:11:59.98\00:12:02.15 a hotel reception desk 00:12:02.18\00:12:04.35 and you open the drawer and it's a staircase. 00:12:04.39\00:12:07.06 Really? Wow. 00:12:07.09\00:12:08.42 Into a cellar where the girls have been pushed. 00:12:08.46\00:12:09.79 Oh, my. 00:12:09.82\00:12:11.16 It is God because, you know, 00:12:11.19\00:12:12.56 none of us have had any kind of investigative training. 00:12:12.59\00:12:15.80 And when God shows up there, we know that we keep going on. 00:12:15.83\00:12:20.80 He is going before you. Yes. 00:12:20.84\00:12:22.44 And you are trusting in Him. Yes. 00:12:22.47\00:12:24.77 Well, I have a hard time 00:12:24.81\00:12:26.14 imagining you as a timid young girl. 00:12:26.17\00:12:28.54 You're a great inspiration to myself 00:12:28.58\00:12:31.18 and many who've met you, I know you are. 00:12:31.21\00:12:34.62 Well, I just praise God that you 00:12:34.65\00:12:36.58 and Operation Child Rescue are doing 00:12:36.62\00:12:39.25 what you are doing, Anita, 00:12:39.29\00:12:40.62 that you are facing these problems, 00:12:40.66\00:12:42.42 that you're there dealing with it. 00:12:42.46\00:12:45.63 You know, it's really hard for those of us 00:12:45.66\00:12:48.03 who don't see it with our own eyes 00:12:48.06\00:12:50.50 to really comprehend the level of danger, 00:12:50.53\00:12:56.10 the horrors that these children go through, 00:12:56.14\00:12:58.97 but I just thank you for what you're doing, 00:12:59.01\00:13:00.98 for the ministry that you have. 00:13:01.01\00:13:03.85 Anita, it's always a pleasure visiting with you. 00:13:03.88\00:13:06.28 Thank you. 00:13:06.31\00:13:07.65 Thank you, Jean. 00:13:07.68\00:13:09.02 Current estimates tell us that more than 1.2 million children 00:13:13.56\00:13:17.43 are caught up in human trafficking in India alone. 00:13:17.46\00:13:20.50 The numbers are truly staggering, 00:13:20.53\00:13:22.60 but thanks to people like Anita 00:13:22.63\00:13:24.30 and programs like Operation Child Rescue, 00:13:24.33\00:13:27.24 these young girls and boys 00:13:27.27\00:13:28.70 can be rescued and rehabilitated. 00:13:28.74\00:13:31.21 You can play a vital role 00:13:31.24\00:13:32.71 in helping Child Impact International 00:13:32.74\00:13:34.81 in its rescue efforts. 00:13:34.84\00:13:36.34 Voice of Prophecy has partnered with Child Impact 00:13:36.38\00:13:39.31 to build a rehabilitation home in Bangalore, India, 00:13:39.35\00:13:42.28 to provide a safe place 00:13:42.32\00:13:43.89 where young girls can be given hope, 00:13:43.92\00:13:45.75 healing, and to learn new skills 00:13:45.79\00:13:48.06 all in a Christian environment. 00:13:48.09\00:13:49.92 Please pray for Anita and her team in India. 00:13:49.96\00:13:52.59 And if you would like to help or get more information 00:13:52.63\00:13:55.03 on Operation Child Rescue, 00:13:55.06\00:13:57.03 please contact Child Impact International. 00:13:57.07\00:13:59.47
