00:07 Child Impact International is an organization giving hope,
00:11 previously called Asian Aid. 00:13 Child Impact International is an organization 00:15 fostering permanent positive change 00:18 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:20 and their communities. 00:21 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:24 in the lives of children and those who are in need. 00:27 Serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, 00:31 Myanmar, and will soon expand to other countries. 00:34 For the last 50 years, 00:36 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:39 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:42 Driven by the dedication to helping those 00:44 who have the least, 00:45 Child Impact is an organization 00:47 focused on the welfare of children, 00:49 implementing diverse development projects 00:52 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:54 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:57 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 01:00 and the blind children, 01:01 giving them a sense of place, a home. 01:04 But above all, Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 01:08 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 01:12 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 01:14 This is Hope In Motion. 01:20 Our television series Hope In Motion 01:22 has been a big success 01:24 and we want to continue to share with you 01:27 some of the field stories that we have filmed 01:30 over the years. 01:31 So just from time to time, it may refer to Asian Aid 01:35 as we reflect on these great stories 01:38 as we share them with you. 01:53 Giffard Memorial Hospital in Nuzvid 01:55 is an Adventist Hospital established in 1935, 01:59 and has spearheaded 02:00 and served the medical needs of communities 02:02 in and around Nuzvid. 02:04 In its 80 year history, 02:05 the hospital has treated thousands of people 02:08 who often come from poor villages 02:10 with problems ranging from common illness 02:12 to snakebites. 02:14 Along with the medical center, 02:15 Giffard Memorial has also been instrumental 02:18 in taking the mission and the good news of the church 02:20 to people around Nuzvid. 02:23 Because of this hospital, 02:25 more than 50 churches 02:28 were established in and around Nuzvid. 02:32 And each church is doing so good. 02:35 From those churches we get the students. 02:37 Here they do their general nursing program 02:39 and BSc nursing program. 02:40 We are hoping to start MSc nursing program. 02:43 That means from LKG until PG course, 02:47 they can complete their studies here. 02:49 What a blessing that would be. 02:52 Recently, Giffard Memorial Hospital 02:55 branched out to start a nursing program 02:57 primarily for students from Adventist backgrounds 03:00 who wish for a career in nursing. 03:02 Last year, the College of Nursing was privileged 03:04 to send out its first batch of graduates. 03:07 It was a proud moment for the college 03:09 as they had a 100% passing result. 03:12 I know, as a principal, I found it quite challenging. 03:15 It was the first batch of students 03:16 and we had a lot of difficulties also, 03:20 but the good Lord was there with us 03:22 and we put in all our efforts to see 03:25 that our students could get the best. 03:27 With God's help, we got quite a few distinctions 03:31 and we had 100% pass results 03:33 from the first batch of students. 03:34 And we were really excited about it, 03:37 and we thank God for all these blessings 03:39 and the way He has led us marvelously. 03:43 Although a majority of the students 03:45 in the College of Nursing come from Adventist families, 03:48 many cannot afford a college education. 03:50 They come from small towns and villages like Usha Rani. 03:54 This is where Child Impact plays a crucial role 03:56 in providing the means 03:58 necessary for these aspiring students 04:00 through its sponsorship program. 04:02 I visited a lot of different medical facilities 04:05 in the US, 04:06 so it's a real privilege and very exciting for me 04:08 to come here to this hospital here in India 04:10 where students are being trained 04:12 and are being able to work and serve the community. 04:15 As a sponsorship manager in the US, 04:19 I see it from one angle. 04:20 And, now you see the students as they grow 04:22 and then to come here, 04:24 and everywhere you go it's someone who has grown up 04:27 through the Asian Aid system 04:29 who is now serving the community as a nurse. 04:31 And what a privilege 04:32 and what an opportunity it is for them 04:33 to serve patients when they're vulnerable 04:36 to share Jesus with them in this life of service. 04:41 Alice Joseph joined the nursing staff 04:43 at Giffard Memorial last year. 04:45 She was part of the first batch of the graduating class 04:48 and was sponsored by Child Impact 04:50 through her nursing program. 04:52 Last year she brought laurels to the institution 04:54 by winning a gold medal at her graduation. 04:58 Like I just wanted, 04:59 this was like one time accomplishment. 05:03 So I just wanted the first mark 05:06 but I didn't think of the gold medal. 05:09 And by God's grace, I got it. 05:11 And one thing that made me happy for getting us 05:16 from where I came, for them the good name, 05:18 that is from Sunshine and the Asian Aid. 05:20 I just felt happy for that, even I didn't tell my mom 05:23 that I got gold medal. 05:25 But first, I told Beulah Aunty. 05:27 And I could see that smile on her face 05:30 and she was happy like, at least from Sunshine, 05:33 you are the one who got it, 05:35 so I'm happy for that. 05:38 I was very proud. 05:40 I know, I'm so proud 05:43 that Alice has made it and even Ashwini, 05:47 the girl who is from Sunshine who studied with her, 05:52 she got a distinction. 05:54 And both these children have always excelled 05:58 in their studies right from grade one. 06:02 And to see that they kept that constantly 06:05 and try to do their best even at the college level, 06:09 it made me really proud 06:11 to be able to be there and witness that 06:13 and be part of that celebration. 06:25 Alice grew up at Sunshine home in Bangalore, 06:28 and she has fond memories of the place she calls home. 06:32 It's like a family over there, and lots of children 06:36 we can play around. 06:37 And we have, like we feel that we have someone beside us. 06:42 We never feel lonely 06:44 because we had all the children around us. 06:47 So I cherish this moment because right now, 06:50 we don't get time even to spend time 06:52 with the children, 06:54 so I miss that one a lot. 06:57 Their mother brought Alice and her twin sister Angela 07:00 to Sunshine home 07:01 when they were just five years old 07:03 after their father abandoned them. 07:06 The father left, abandoned the family 07:09 and the mother had to become the breadwinner. 07:13 And she couldn't go for the job 07:14 because she had these two little girls, 07:17 and she was desperate to find a solution. 07:21 And someone told her about Sunshine, 07:23 and so she came and asked 07:26 if we could take the children in. 07:28 And looking at her desperate condition, 07:31 we did take the children in so that she could survive. 07:35 Bringing her two young girls to Sunshine was hard for her, 07:39 but she had to do it for their survival 07:41 and that of her own. 07:42 Most often in an abandoned situation, 07:45 the child will not be able to get the basic requirement 07:48 such as a decent meal a day. 07:50 And in cases where the mother is unable to work, 07:53 both the mother and children 07:54 will eventually face hardship beyond their control, 07:57 leading even to their death. 08:00 In Alice's case, her mother had to make a sacrifice 08:02 to give up her children, to put them in a home 08:05 so that at least her children had a future 08:07 and she could be free to find a job just to survive. 08:11 Sunshine did give them a good future, 08:13 and thanks to Child Impact sponsorship, 08:16 Alice and her sister were able to go to school 08:18 and be educated. 08:20 The love and care they received at Sunshine 08:22 has had a huge influence on them. 08:25 Basically, any child that comes into our home 08:30 is one more added member to the family. 08:32 And the children bond so easily and so fast, 08:37 and it's a life long bond. 08:40 And they sense that they belong to a family, 08:42 it's something bigger. 08:44 And I'm sure each of our children 08:47 are proud to be part of Sunshine. 08:51 The children are indeed proud to be part of Sunshine. 08:54 In fact, for a majority of them, 08:56 Sunshine is the only home they have known. 08:59 And Alice owes her success 09:01 to becoming a nurse to Sunshine home. 09:03 First, I decided I wanted to become a teacher, 09:06 like when we write letters and all, 09:08 that was my desire. 09:09 Then as I grew up, I used to see 09:11 so many of our sisters in Sunshine, 09:15 like nurses with that white uniform, 09:17 giving injections and all. 09:19 So I had that desire 09:20 that I should also become a nurse. 09:24 We've had about 35 girls who are nurses. 09:28 I think, initially, the girls who finished nursing 09:33 were role models for these girls. 09:35 And everyone looked up to them 09:37 and decided they want to do exactly 09:40 what the older ones did. 09:42 And they have the ability and the opportunity to be 09:47 of service to people and they enjoy it. 09:52 Because being at Sunshine 09:53 is not just looking after themselves, 09:55 each one of them has had responsibility 09:58 of the little one, to look after the little ones, 10:00 and they developed leadership skills 10:04 and skills in serving others, 10:06 so that's what they like to do. 10:09 The desire to excel in her studies and in life 10:12 grew out of her experience at Sunshine. 10:15 And with Child Impact's help, she grabbed all the opportunity 10:18 that came her way to become a successful nurse. 10:21 The way the child is born is not important, 10:26 to which family the child belongs, 10:29 that's also not important, 10:31 but the way the child studies, 10:34 the environment makes an ocean of difference. 10:37 And then everybody would get the opportunities. 10:42 Some take it very easy, some take it very seriously, 10:46 but in this case Miss Alice took it very seriously 10:49 and grabbed all the opportunities 10:51 and could excel in her studies 10:53 and that makes us very, very happy. 10:55 I'm sure the sponsors 10:57 who have been supporting her 10:59 would be also very happy. 11:00 I'm sure the Asian Aid Australia, 11:04 Asian Aid USA sponsors also will be very happy about it. 11:10 Alice is a shining example of why Asian Aid 11:13 wants to continue growing its program. 11:16 We're giving children a chance, 11:18 they can come from the very simple background 11:22 and we can give them a chance or the education 11:24 to the highest level. 11:26 Alice is a shining example of the success of sponsorship 11:30 from where she has come to top of the class 11:32 at Giffard Memorial Hospital. 11:34 It really encourages Asian Aid with its growth strategy, 11:38 and it encourages us to tell sponsors 11:41 that we make a real difference in the life of these children. 11:46 The sponsors do make a real difference 11:48 in the life of these children. 11:50 Being a sponsor is not easy 11:52 for a majority of Child Impact sponsors. 11:54 It's years of sponsoring a child 11:56 from kindergarten right up to college. 11:58 And seeing that the child is using that opportunity, 12:01 and using that money 12:02 the sponsors have send to the best of their ability 12:05 is a rewarding experience. 12:07 And when sponsored children like Alice 12:09 excel in their studies, 12:10 they've indicate the belief 12:11 that sponsors have in the sponsorship program. 12:15 Being sponsored is a privilege 12:17 because if I have to look back and see that, 12:21 if I was not in Sunshine or if I was not sponsored, 12:26 I don't think I would have completed my nursing also 12:29 because my parents couldn't afford also. 12:31 And I think it's a great blessing 12:33 being sponsored 12:35 and I'm thankful for what they did for my life, 12:38 for bringing me to this stage. 12:40 And I hope one day 12:41 that I would do something for them. 12:45 The ultimate goal of our school system, 12:47 children's homes, and our hospitals 12:50 is to spread the love of Jesus 12:51 and the promise of eternal life to people around us. 12:54 And Child Impact International sponsor students 12:57 like Usha Rani and Alice 12:59 are shining examples of the miracles 13:01 God has promised for His children. 13:03 They have not only accepted Jesus as their personal savior, 13:06 but are in the mission to tell others 13:08 about the promise of eternal life. 13:11 I think there's a tremendous influence 13:13 that homes like Sunshine, and educational institutions, 13:18 and sponsorship agencies like Asian Aid 13:22 have in directing a child's life 13:27 from what could have been to what has been 13:31 has made such a difference. 13:33 And I think, 13:35 just looking at the, you know, 13:37 the potentiality of a child when they come here 13:40 when they are small 13:41 and seeing through that potentiality 13:43 and making that a possibility 13:46 makes a world of difference. |
