Child Impact International is an organization giving hope, 00:00:07.27\00:00:11.21 previously called Asian Aid. 00:00:11.24\00:00:13.21 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.24\00:00:15.88 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:15.91\00:00:18.11 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:18.15\00:00:20.18 and their communities. 00:00:20.22\00:00:21.82 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.85\00:00:24.35 in the lives of children and those who are in need. 00:00:24.39\00:00:27.26 Serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, 00:00:27.29\00:00:31.23 Myanmar, and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:31.26\00:00:34.60 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.63\00:00:36.10 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:00:36.13\00:00:39.03 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:00:39.07\00:00:42.00 Driven by the dedication to helping those 00:00:42.04\00:00:44.37 who have the least, 00:00:44.41\00:00:45.74 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.77\00:00:47.64 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.68\00:00:49.84 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:49.88\00:00:52.31 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.35\00:00:54.38 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:54.42\00:00:57.45 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 00:00:57.49\00:01:00.52 and the blind children, 00:01:00.56\00:01:01.89 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:01.92\00:01:04.73 But above all, Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:04.76\00:01:08.56 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.60\00:01:11.97 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:12.00\00:01:14.60 This is Hope In Motion. 00:01:14.64\00:01:16.67 Our television series Hope In Motion 00:01:20.18\00:01:22.84 has been a big success 00:01:22.88\00:01:24.68 and we want to continue to share with you 00:01:24.71\00:01:27.42 some of the field stories that we have filmed 00:01:27.45\00:01:30.29 over the years. 00:01:30.32\00:01:31.65 So just from time to time, it may refer to Asian Aid 00:01:31.69\00:01:35.69 as we reflect on these great stories 00:01:35.72\00:01:38.83 as we share them with you. 00:01:38.86\00:01:40.60 Giffard Memorial Hospital in Nuzvid 00:01:53.48\00:01:55.61 is an Adventist Hospital established in 1935, 00:01:55.64\00:01:59.11 and has spearheaded 00:01:59.15\00:02:00.48 and served the medical needs of communities 00:02:00.52\00:02:02.48 in and around Nuzvid. 00:02:02.52\00:02:04.35 In its 80 year history, 00:02:04.39\00:02:05.85 the hospital has treated thousands of people 00:02:05.89\00:02:08.32 who often come from poor villages 00:02:08.36\00:02:10.36 with problems ranging from common illness 00:02:10.39\00:02:12.63 to snakebites. 00:02:12.66\00:02:14.20 Along with the medical center, 00:02:14.23\00:02:15.73 Giffard Memorial has also been instrumental 00:02:15.76\00:02:18.20 in taking the mission and the good news of the church 00:02:18.23\00:02:20.84 to people around Nuzvid. 00:02:20.87\00:02:23.14 Because of this hospital, 00:02:23.17\00:02:25.74 more than 50 churches 00:02:25.77\00:02:28.04 were established in and around Nuzvid. 00:02:28.08\00:02:32.65 And each church is doing so good. 00:02:32.68\00:02:35.08 From those churches we get the students. 00:02:35.12\00:02:37.49 Here they do their general nursing program 00:02:37.52\00:02:39.25 and BSc nursing program. 00:02:39.29\00:02:40.96 We are hoping to start MSc nursing program. 00:02:40.99\00:02:43.36 That means from LKG until PG course, 00:02:43.39\00:02:47.60 they can complete their studies here. 00:02:47.63\00:02:49.50 What a blessing that would be. 00:02:49.53\00:02:52.90 Recently, Giffard Memorial Hospital 00:02:52.93\00:02:55.10 branched out to start a nursing program 00:02:55.14\00:02:57.37 primarily for students from Adventist backgrounds 00:02:57.41\00:03:00.21 who wish for a career in nursing. 00:03:00.24\00:03:02.34 Last year, the College of Nursing was privileged 00:03:02.38\00:03:04.95 to send out its first batch of graduates. 00:03:04.98\00:03:07.55 It was a proud moment for the college 00:03:07.58\00:03:09.48 as they had a 100% passing result. 00:03:09.52\00:03:12.62 I know, as a principal, I found it quite challenging. 00:03:12.65\00:03:15.22 It was the first batch of students 00:03:15.26\00:03:16.96 and we had a lot of difficulties also, 00:03:16.99\00:03:20.06 but the good Lord was there with us 00:03:20.10\00:03:22.16 and we put in all our efforts to see 00:03:22.20\00:03:25.13 that our students could get the best. 00:03:25.17\00:03:27.44 With God's help, we got quite a few distinctions 00:03:27.47\00:03:31.07 and we had 100% pass results 00:03:31.11\00:03:33.44 from the first batch of students. 00:03:33.48\00:03:34.91 And we were really excited about it, 00:03:34.94\00:03:37.11 and we thank God for all these blessings 00:03:37.15\00:03:39.55 and the way He has led us marvelously. 00:03:39.58\00:03:43.65 Although a majority of the students 00:03:43.69\00:03:45.32 in the College of Nursing come from Adventist families, 00:03:45.35\00:03:48.26 many cannot afford a college education. 00:03:48.29\00:03:50.73 They come from small towns and villages like Usha Rani. 00:03:50.76\00:03:54.13 This is where Child Impact plays a crucial role 00:03:54.16\00:03:56.77 in providing the means 00:03:56.80\00:03:58.13 necessary for these aspiring students 00:03:58.17\00:04:00.44 through its sponsorship program. 00:04:00.47\00:04:02.70 I visited a lot of different medical facilities 00:04:02.74\00:04:05.57 in the US, 00:04:05.61\00:04:06.94 so it's a real privilege and very exciting for me 00:04:06.98\00:04:08.71 to come here to this hospital here in India 00:04:08.74\00:04:10.95 where students are being trained 00:04:10.98\00:04:12.31 and are being able to work and serve the community. 00:04:12.35\00:04:15.85 As a sponsorship manager in the US, 00:04:15.88\00:04:19.05 I see it from one angle. 00:04:19.09\00:04:20.46 And, now you see the students as they grow 00:04:20.49\00:04:22.79 and then to come here, 00:04:22.82\00:04:24.16 and everywhere you go it's someone who has grown up 00:04:24.19\00:04:27.60 through the Asian Aid system 00:04:27.63\00:04:28.96 who is now serving the community as a nurse. 00:04:29.00\00:04:31.00 And what a privilege 00:04:31.03\00:04:32.37 and what an opportunity it is for them 00:04:32.40\00:04:33.74 to serve patients when they're vulnerable 00:04:33.77\00:04:36.24 to share Jesus with them in this life of service. 00:04:36.27\00:04:41.21 Alice Joseph joined the nursing staff 00:04:41.24\00:04:43.35 at Giffard Memorial last year. 00:04:43.38\00:04:45.35 She was part of the first batch of the graduating class 00:04:45.38\00:04:48.52 and was sponsored by Child Impact 00:04:48.55\00:04:50.32 through her nursing program. 00:04:50.35\00:04:52.15 Last year she brought laurels to the institution 00:04:52.19\00:04:54.96 by winning a gold medal at her graduation. 00:04:54.99\00:04:58.53 Like I just wanted, 00:04:58.56\00:04:59.89 this was like one time accomplishment. 00:04:59.93\00:05:03.10 So I just wanted the first mark 00:05:03.13\00:05:06.90 but I didn't think of the gold medal. 00:05:06.94\00:05:09.14 And by God's grace, I got it. 00:05:09.17\00:05:11.41 And one thing that made me happy for getting us 00:05:11.44\00:05:16.21 from where I came, for them the good name, 00:05:16.24\00:05:18.45 that is from Sunshine and the Asian Aid. 00:05:18.48\00:05:20.85 I just felt happy for that, even I didn't tell my mom 00:05:20.88\00:05:23.72 that I got gold medal. 00:05:23.75\00:05:25.45 But first, I told Beulah Aunty. 00:05:25.49\00:05:27.89 And I could see that smile on her face 00:05:27.92\00:05:30.33 and she was happy like, at least from Sunshine, 00:05:30.36\00:05:33.60 you are the one who got it, 00:05:33.63\00:05:35.40 so I'm happy for that. 00:05:35.43\00:05:38.70 I was very proud. 00:05:38.73\00:05:40.30 I know, I'm so proud 00:05:40.34\00:05:43.20 that Alice has made it and even Ashwini, 00:05:43.24\00:05:47.74 the girl who is from Sunshine who studied with her, 00:05:47.78\00:05:52.31 she got a distinction. 00:05:52.35\00:05:54.18 And both these children have always excelled 00:05:54.22\00:05:58.92 in their studies right from grade one. 00:05:58.95\00:06:02.26 And to see that they kept that constantly 00:06:02.29\00:06:05.13 and try to do their best even at the college level, 00:06:05.16\00:06:09.23 it made me really proud 00:06:09.26\00:06:11.30 to be able to be there and witness that 00:06:11.33\00:06:13.70 and be part of that celebration. 00:06:13.74\00:06:15.47 Alice grew up at Sunshine home in Bangalore, 00:06:25.58\00:06:28.25 and she has fond memories of the place she calls home. 00:06:28.28\00:06:32.79 It's like a family over there, and lots of children 00:06:32.82\00:06:36.39 we can play around. 00:06:36.42\00:06:37.89 And we have, like we feel that we have someone beside us. 00:06:37.93\00:06:42.76 We never feel lonely 00:06:42.80\00:06:44.43 because we had all the children around us. 00:06:44.47\00:06:47.00 So I cherish this moment because right now, 00:06:47.04\00:06:50.61 we don't get time even to spend time 00:06:50.64\00:06:52.67 with the children, 00:06:52.71\00:06:54.04 so I miss that one a lot. 00:06:54.08\00:06:57.68 Their mother brought Alice and her twin sister Angela 00:06:57.71\00:07:00.28 to Sunshine home 00:07:00.32\00:07:01.65 when they were just five years old 00:07:01.68\00:07:03.32 after their father abandoned them. 00:07:03.35\00:07:06.22 The father left, abandoned the family 00:07:06.25\00:07:08.99 and the mother had to become the breadwinner. 00:07:09.02\00:07:13.19 And she couldn't go for the job 00:07:13.23\00:07:14.83 because she had these two little girls, 00:07:14.86\00:07:17.17 and she was desperate to find a solution. 00:07:17.20\00:07:21.40 And someone told her about Sunshine, 00:07:21.44\00:07:23.64 and so she came and asked 00:07:23.67\00:07:26.04 if we could take the children in. 00:07:26.07\00:07:28.51 And looking at her desperate condition, 00:07:28.54\00:07:31.41 we did take the children in so that she could survive. 00:07:31.45\00:07:35.92 Bringing her two young girls to Sunshine was hard for her, 00:07:35.95\00:07:39.25 but she had to do it for their survival 00:07:39.29\00:07:41.22 and that of her own. 00:07:41.26\00:07:42.62 Most often in an abandoned situation, 00:07:42.66\00:07:45.13 the child will not be able to get the basic requirement 00:07:45.16\00:07:48.00 such as a decent meal a day. 00:07:48.03\00:07:50.50 And in cases where the mother is unable to work, 00:07:50.53\00:07:53.13 both the mother and children 00:07:53.17\00:07:54.54 will eventually face hardship beyond their control, 00:07:54.57\00:07:57.44 leading even to their death. 00:07:57.47\00:08:00.08 In Alice's case, her mother had to make a sacrifice 00:08:00.11\00:08:02.84 to give up her children, to put them in a home 00:08:02.88\00:08:05.51 so that at least her children had a future 00:08:05.55\00:08:07.92 and she could be free to find a job just to survive. 00:08:07.95\00:08:11.52 Sunshine did give them a good future, 00:08:11.55\00:08:13.82 and thanks to Child Impact sponsorship, 00:08:13.86\00:08:16.22 Alice and her sister were able to go to school 00:08:16.26\00:08:18.89 and be educated. 00:08:18.93\00:08:20.30 The love and care they received at Sunshine 00:08:20.33\00:08:22.60 has had a huge influence on them. 00:08:22.63\00:08:25.63 Basically, any child that comes into our home 00:08:25.67\00:08:30.07 is one more added member to the family. 00:08:30.11\00:08:32.87 And the children bond so easily and so fast, 00:08:32.91\00:08:37.91 and it's a life long bond. 00:08:37.95\00:08:39.98 And they sense that they belong to a family, 00:08:40.02\00:08:42.45 it's something bigger. 00:08:42.48\00:08:44.05 And I'm sure each of our children 00:08:44.09\00:08:47.46 are proud to be part of Sunshine. 00:08:47.49\00:08:51.59 The children are indeed proud to be part of Sunshine. 00:08:51.63\00:08:54.76 In fact, for a majority of them, 00:08:54.80\00:08:56.70 Sunshine is the only home they have known. 00:08:56.73\00:08:59.27 And Alice owes her success 00:08:59.30\00:09:01.00 to becoming a nurse to Sunshine home. 00:09:01.04\00:09:03.27 First, I decided I wanted to become a teacher, 00:09:03.30\00:09:06.78 like when we write letters and all, 00:09:06.81\00:09:08.48 that was my desire. 00:09:08.51\00:09:09.84 Then as I grew up, I used to see 00:09:09.88\00:09:11.88 so many of our sisters in Sunshine, 00:09:11.91\00:09:15.05 like nurses with that white uniform, 00:09:15.08\00:09:17.62 giving injections and all. 00:09:17.65\00:09:19.55 So I had that desire 00:09:19.59\00:09:20.92 that I should also become a nurse. 00:09:20.96\00:09:24.79 We've had about 35 girls who are nurses. 00:09:24.83\00:09:28.86 I think, initially, the girls who finished nursing 00:09:28.90\00:09:33.50 were role models for these girls. 00:09:33.54\00:09:35.74 And everyone looked up to them 00:09:35.77\00:09:37.44 and decided they want to do exactly 00:09:37.47\00:09:40.04 what the older ones did. 00:09:40.08\00:09:42.58 And they have the ability and the opportunity to be 00:09:42.61\00:09:47.68 of service to people and they enjoy it. 00:09:47.72\00:09:52.12 Because being at Sunshine 00:09:52.15\00:09:53.49 is not just looking after themselves, 00:09:53.52\00:09:55.32 each one of them has had responsibility 00:09:55.36\00:09:58.09 of the little one, to look after the little ones, 00:09:58.13\00:10:00.50 and they developed leadership skills 00:10:00.53\00:10:04.23 and skills in serving others, 00:10:04.27\00:10:06.63 so that's what they like to do. 00:10:06.67\00:10:09.74 The desire to excel in her studies and in life 00:10:09.77\00:10:12.51 grew out of her experience at Sunshine. 00:10:12.54\00:10:15.04 And with Child Impact's help, she grabbed all the opportunity 00:10:15.08\00:10:18.31 that came her way to become a successful nurse. 00:10:18.35\00:10:21.68 The way the child is born is not important, 00:10:21.72\00:10:26.89 to which family the child belongs, 00:10:26.92\00:10:29.32 that's also not important, 00:10:29.36\00:10:30.99 but the way the child studies, 00:10:31.03\00:10:34.36 the environment makes an ocean of difference. 00:10:34.40\00:10:37.83 And then everybody would get the opportunities. 00:10:37.87\00:10:42.07 Some take it very easy, some take it very seriously, 00:10:42.10\00:10:46.01 but in this case Miss Alice took it very seriously 00:10:46.04\00:10:49.51 and grabbed all the opportunities 00:10:49.54\00:10:51.88 and could excel in her studies 00:10:51.91\00:10:53.62 and that makes us very, very happy. 00:10:53.65\00:10:55.28 I'm sure the sponsors 00:10:55.32\00:10:57.52 who have been supporting her 00:10:57.55\00:10:59.05 would be also very happy. 00:10:59.09\00:11:00.42 I'm sure the Asian Aid Australia, 00:11:00.46\00:11:04.43 Asian Aid USA sponsors also will be very happy about it. 00:11:04.46\00:11:10.50 Alice is a shining example of why Asian Aid 00:11:10.53\00:11:13.34 wants to continue growing its program. 00:11:13.37\00:11:16.30 We're giving children a chance, 00:11:16.34\00:11:18.27 they can come from the very simple background 00:11:18.31\00:11:22.04 and we can give them a chance or the education 00:11:22.08\00:11:24.71 to the highest level. 00:11:24.75\00:11:26.31 Alice is a shining example of the success of sponsorship 00:11:26.35\00:11:30.32 from where she has come to top of the class 00:11:30.35\00:11:32.79 at Giffard Memorial Hospital. 00:11:32.82\00:11:34.66 It really encourages Asian Aid with its growth strategy, 00:11:34.69\00:11:38.66 and it encourages us to tell sponsors 00:11:38.69\00:11:41.90 that we make a real difference in the life of these children. 00:11:41.93\00:11:46.53 The sponsors do make a real difference 00:11:46.57\00:11:48.67 in the life of these children. 00:11:48.70\00:11:50.41 Being a sponsor is not easy 00:11:50.44\00:11:52.04 for a majority of Child Impact sponsors. 00:11:52.07\00:11:54.64 It's years of sponsoring a child 00:11:54.68\00:11:56.34 from kindergarten right up to college. 00:11:56.38\00:11:58.51 And seeing that the child is using that opportunity, 00:11:58.55\00:12:01.35 and using that money 00:12:01.38\00:12:02.72 the sponsors have send to the best of their ability 00:12:02.75\00:12:05.29 is a rewarding experience. 00:12:05.32\00:12:07.32 And when sponsored children like Alice 00:12:07.36\00:12:09.19 excel in their studies, 00:12:09.22\00:12:10.56 they've indicate the belief 00:12:10.59\00:12:11.93 that sponsors have in the sponsorship program. 00:12:11.96\00:12:15.30 Being sponsored is a privilege 00:12:15.33\00:12:17.83 because if I have to look back and see that, 00:12:17.87\00:12:21.84 if I was not in Sunshine or if I was not sponsored, 00:12:21.87\00:12:26.01 I don't think I would have completed my nursing also 00:12:26.04\00:12:29.11 because my parents couldn't afford also. 00:12:29.14\00:12:31.45 And I think it's a great blessing 00:12:31.48\00:12:33.82 being sponsored 00:12:33.85\00:12:35.18 and I'm thankful for what they did for my life, 00:12:35.22\00:12:38.45 for bringing me to this stage. 00:12:38.49\00:12:40.49 And I hope one day 00:12:40.52\00:12:41.86 that I would do something for them. 00:12:41.89\00:12:45.66 The ultimate goal of our school system, 00:12:45.69\00:12:47.83 children's homes, and our hospitals 00:12:47.86\00:12:49.96 is to spread the love of Jesus 00:12:50.00\00:12:51.63 and the promise of eternal life to people around us. 00:12:51.67\00:12:54.64 And Child Impact International sponsor students 00:12:54.67\00:12:57.44 like Usha Rani and Alice 00:12:57.47\00:12:59.07 are shining examples of the miracles 00:12:59.11\00:13:01.11 God has promised for His children. 00:13:01.14\00:13:03.48 They have not only accepted Jesus as their personal savior, 00:13:03.51\00:13:06.78 but are in the mission to tell others 00:13:06.82\00:13:08.45 about the promise of eternal life. 00:13:08.48\00:13:11.22 I think there's a tremendous influence 00:13:11.25\00:13:13.82 that homes like Sunshine, and educational institutions, 00:13:13.86\00:13:18.66 and sponsorship agencies like Asian Aid 00:13:18.69\00:13:22.53 have in directing a child's life 00:13:22.56\00:13:27.80 from what could have been to what has been 00:13:27.84\00:13:31.51 has made such a difference. 00:13:31.54\00:13:33.68 And I think, 00:13:33.71\00:13:35.34 just looking at the, you know, 00:13:35.38\00:13:37.38 the potentiality of a child when they come here 00:13:37.41\00:13:40.05 when they are small 00:13:40.08\00:13:41.52 and seeing through that potentiality 00:13:41.55\00:13:43.82 and making that a possibility 00:13:43.85\00:13:46.69 makes a world of difference. 00:13:46.72\00:13:48.06
