00:07 Child Impact International is an organization giving hope,
00:11 previously called Asian Aid. 00:13 Child Impact International is an organization 00:15 fostering permanent positive change 00:18 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:20 and their communities. 00:21 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:24 in the lives of children 00:25 and those who are in need. 00:27 Serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, 00:31 Myanmar, and will soon expand to other countries. 00:34 For the last 50 years, 00:36 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:39 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:42 Driven by the dedication to helping those 00:44 who have the least, 00:45 Child Impact is an organization 00:47 focused on the welfare of children, 00:49 implementing diverse development projects 00:52 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:54 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:57 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 01:00 and the blind children, 01:01 giving them a sense of place, a home. 01:04 But above all, Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 01:08 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 01:11 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 01:14 This is Hope In Motion. 01:20 Our television series Hope In Motion 01:22 has been a big success 01:24 and we want to continue to share with you 01:27 some of the field stories 01:28 that we have filmed over the years. 01:31 So just from time to time, it may refer to Asian Aid 01:35 as we reflect on these great stories 01:38 as we share them with you. 01:46 The medical ministry 01:48 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 01:49 not only attends to the medical needs, 01:51 but also shows the love of Jesus 01:54 to those who come to its facilities 01:56 seeking medical treatment. 01:57 In this episode of Hope in Motion, 02:00 we go to Giffard Memorial Hospital 02:02 and the College of Nursing in Nuzvid, India, 02:05 and see how Child Impact International 02:07 is helping this pioneering institution 02:09 in training young people in God's service. 02:12 I guess, we traditionally think of sponsorship of children 02:15 sitting in a classroom. 02:16 But here, at Giffard Memorial Hospital, 02:19 we see the end result, 02:20 we see the success of girls, 02:24 especially who are now doing full nursing courses, 02:28 who are making a real contribution 02:30 to the medical work of the church. 02:44 Usha Rani is a second year nursing student 02:46 at the College of Nursing in Nuzvid, India. 02:49 As part of Giffard Memorial Hospital, 02:51 the College of Nursing brings in aspiring nursing students 02:54 from Adventist backgrounds like Usha. 02:57 Child Impact International over the years 03:00 has helped many young women like Usha through sponsorship. 03:04 Because of the Asian Aid 03:06 many, many, many students 03:08 could educate themselves in our college. 03:12 It's a tremendous opportunity for the students 03:17 to grab that and to excel in their studies 03:20 and then educate themselves 03:24 and then have a bright future. 03:27 Usha Rani is looking forward to this bright future. 03:30 Having born into a poor Adventist family, 03:33 Usha has been supported 03:34 by Child Impact sponsorship program 03:36 from kindergarten. 03:38 She is the youngest of four girls in the family, 03:40 and Usha's parents had to constantly worry 03:43 about their financial instability. 03:44 This led to marital issues between her parents 03:47 and they separated when Usha was still a young girl. 03:50 Her mother took care of her and her three older sisters 03:53 by selling vegetables in the village. 03:55 Their hardship was compounded 03:57 when her mother was hospitalized with jaundice. 04:01 By the time they realized 04:02 that she is suffering from jaundice 04:03 and take her for treatment it became worse. 04:06 They couldn't treat her. 04:08 Doctors said no hope and she was like 04:11 one week in the hospital 04:13 but no improvement in the health status. 04:16 Like that she passed away in the hospital only. 04:19 That time I was in hostel only, 04:21 I didn't know anything about my mother's health condition. 04:25 Then by the time I came here 04:26 she is no more, she passed away. 04:31 When our mother passed away, 04:33 I wanted to bring my husband here 04:35 and take care of my sister 04:36 because she was still very young at that time. 04:39 But my husband was not willing, 04:41 he said, "When your father is not taking care of you all, 04:44 why should I take care of her?" 04:46 So my husband left me 04:47 and I came here to take care of them. 04:52 Usha's mother died five years ago 04:54 and legal requirements forced her father 04:56 to be her guardian. 04:58 After my mother died 05:00 it's compulsory I should stay with my father 05:03 because no source for me. 05:05 Nobody used to take care of us 05:06 because already my three sisters, 05:08 they got married. 05:09 They went to stay with their husbands. 05:12 After that when I was staying with my father, 05:15 he also became sick 05:16 because he also become old, he couldn't work. 05:21 He is diabetic patient. 05:23 Then due to some family problems 05:27 my elder sister, 05:28 she had some problem with her husband. 05:31 She came home 05:32 and now she is taking care of my father and me. 05:41 Poverty passes on from generation to generation. 05:45 Without any education, people in rural India 05:47 are forced to follow their parents 05:49 into working in the fields or doing manual labor, 05:52 sometimes as domestic help. 05:54 Usha's father, although old and diabetic, 05:57 is forced to work in the fields nearby 05:59 just so he can earn something to support himself 06:02 and his eldest daughter who is caring for him. 06:10 Usha's sister, Rathnakumari 06:12 owns a petty shop selling vegetables. 06:14 Fortunately for Usha she has the opportunity 06:17 to break the shackles of poverty. 06:19 Child Impact sponsorship has given her that opportunity 06:22 to uplift herself 06:24 and help her support her family 06:25 in the future. 06:27 If you help the family, 06:28 that help may not be for longer time. 06:31 But if you help a child in a family 06:34 and educate the child 06:35 and that child when he gets into job, 06:37 he can take care of the entire family 06:39 and it can be a big blessing to the entire family. 06:42 So therefore, Seventh-day Adventist, 06:45 wherever we have our colleges, 06:47 wherever we have a school, wherever we have our hospitals, 06:50 we take it like a privilege to invite students 06:53 from all backgrounds and to educate them 06:56 so that they would become workers, 07:00 come back to our institutions 07:03 and serve in our institutions. 07:05 So what we do, 07:06 it will not go waste but they will come back 07:09 and then help taking care of responsibilities, 07:12 taking care of various jobs that we entrust to them. 07:16 I would say if there is no sponsorship, 07:19 I think majority of them 07:21 will not be having this education 07:22 that they are actually going through. 07:24 And if you actually take the financial background 07:27 of many of our students, 07:28 they come from very poor backgrounds. 07:30 And some of them have a really pathetic background, 07:34 and this sponsorship that they are getting 07:36 from very kind donors, 07:38 I mean, God has, I pray that God will bless them 07:41 because they're really doing a lot of services. 07:44 And by helping these poor students 07:47 in getting some education, 07:48 they are really going a long way 07:50 to build a bright future for these students. 07:52 Without this sponsorship, I'm sure they will not be able 07:55 to get this education and they will not be able 07:58 to do what they're doing and their future 08:00 we do not know what it could be 08:02 given the financial conditions from which they come. 08:04 So I really pray, we always remember these sponsors 08:07 because we do not know whether they have seen 08:09 these children or not, 08:11 but with kindness they've been helping our students, 08:13 and we really appreciate them, 08:15 and we pray that God will bless those sponsors 08:17 who have been helping our students. 08:21 I wouldn't have got that sponsorship 08:23 from Asian Aid, 08:24 definitely, I'm not sure that I would have studied 08:27 in such Adventist institutions. 08:30 Sponsorship is like 08:32 they are supporting me financially. 08:34 Everything they are giving books and all... 08:37 From LKG I was supported by Asian Aid help only. 08:42 Usha Rani has gone through 08:43 Child Impact sponsorship program 08:45 since kindergarten, and it is continuing 08:47 to support Usha through her nursing program 08:49 at the College of Nursing in Nuzvid. 08:52 Nurses are in high demand, and no doubt, 08:55 Usha would be employed almost immediately 08:57 upon her completing her nursing program. 09:00 Thanks to Child Impact sponsorship, 09:02 she will not only stand on her own 09:04 as a working professional, 09:05 but also be of service to her family, 09:07 and above all, to the community as a whole. 09:11 I guess we traditionally think of sponsorship of children 09:14 sitting in a classroom. 09:16 But here at Giffard Memorial hospital, 09:18 we see the end result, 09:20 we see the success of girls, 09:23 especially who are now doing full nursing courses, 09:27 who are making a real contribution 09:30 to the medical work of the church, 09:32 even to community hospitals. 09:38 My father cannot support us 09:40 and we don't have any brothers to support us. 09:43 I'm so thankful to Asian Aid and my sister's sponsors. 09:48 If Asian Aid is not there, 09:50 I would not make her to study this much. 09:53 We would have gotten her married in the village 09:55 and she may be doing some manual labor 09:57 in the fields. 09:59 Because of Asian Aid, 10:00 my sister is able to receive an education, 10:03 and I want to thank the sponsor. 10:06 These are people who do not know us, 10:08 they have not met us and we have not seen them, 10:11 but still they are sponsoring my sister. 10:14 I'm able to give my emotional support to her 10:17 only because of these sponsors. 10:19 I'm praying for them, 10:21 I pray that God will prosper them 10:23 and give them good health. 10:24 I thank them with all my heart. 10:30 The healing ministry 10:31 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 10:33 is in the forefront of its mission 10:34 to spread the good news and the love of Jesus 10:37 through its clinics and hospitals. 10:39 At Giffard Memorial, young people are being trained 10:42 in God's service. 10:43 And at School of Nursing, they are not only trained 10:46 to give manual nursing care, but also show Christian love 10:50 and to share God's love with those 10:51 who come seeking medical help. 10:54 I think it's a great blessing being sponsored. 10:56 I'm thankful for what they did for my life, 11:00 for bringing me to the stage. 11:02 And I hope one day 11:03 that I would do something for them. 11:12 Imagine with me for a moment that you're a small child 11:16 living on the streets of India, the sandals on your feet 11:19 lost their comfort weeks ago, 11:21 your favorite shirt just got another hole. 11:24 It's sad, mommy died last year 11:26 but what makes you feel even worse 11:29 is that your dad 11:30 chose not to be your dad anymore. 11:33 Hey, I'm Shawn Boonstra, 11:34 Honorary Ambassador for Child Impact International, 11:37 an organization that is a supportive ministry 11:40 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 11:42 Something like 15 to 25 million little girls and boys in India 11:46 share similar stories to the one I just told you. 11:49 Many are orphaned at a young age 11:51 with little food to eat 11:53 and no hope. 11:54 Child Impact serves to bridge the gap 11:56 between hardship and education. 12:00 It's a unique ministry that serves children in poverty 12:03 in Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. 12:08 Over three and a half thousand children 12:11 are provided an Adventist education 12:13 and lives are changed 12:14 through the numerous development projects. 12:17 Working in these countries, 12:19 Child Impact has come face to face 12:21 with issues like child slavery, 12:24 poor or no education, child trafficking, 12:27 abandoned babies, lack of clean water, 12:31 and a high number of orphans. 12:33 This list is not short on challenges, 12:36 yet the needs are being met. 12:38 You know, my family sponsors Sheila, 12:40 a young lady at the Sunrise Orphanage 12:42 in India. 12:43 For the past couple of years, 12:45 I'm proud of how my family 12:46 has been able to impact her life 12:49 for the better. 12:50 Word has it, she just started college. 12:54 What I've come to understand 12:56 is that the children Child Impact supports 12:59 are more than just names, or faces on a screen, 13:02 or a flyer, 13:03 they're people with a story, 13:06 a story whose ending has not been written, 13:09 instead another chapter is being composed. 13:13 It reminds me of something that Jesus once said, 13:16 "Whatever you do for the least 13:17 of these brothers and sisters of Mine, 13:20 you do for Me." 13:22 Join me and others like me throughout the world 13:25 who are sponsoring a child monthly 13:28 to provide like Jesus did, to support like Jesus did, 13:32 to love like Jesus did. 13:34 You too can make a lifelong impact 13:37 on the life of someone 13:38 who is waiting for you to say yes. 13:41 Yes, today you will consider sponsorship 13:43 right now with Child Impact or one of our other projects. 13:47 Yes, to give hope to a precious child today. |
