Child Impact International is an organization giving hope, 00:00:07.27\00:00:11.17 previously called Asian Aid. 00:00:11.21\00:00:13.21 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.24\00:00:15.81 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:15.84\00:00:18.11 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:18.15\00:00:20.15 and their communities. 00:00:20.18\00:00:21.78 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.82\00:00:24.35 in the lives of children 00:00:24.39\00:00:25.72 and those who are in need. 00:00:25.75\00:00:27.26 Serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, 00:00:27.29\00:00:31.29 Myanmar, and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:31.33\00:00:34.60 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.63\00:00:36.10 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:00:36.13\00:00:39.07 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:00:39.10\00:00:41.97 Driven by the dedication to helping those 00:00:42.00\00:00:44.34 who have the least, 00:00:44.37\00:00:45.71 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.74\00:00:47.64 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.68\00:00:49.64 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:49.68\00:00:52.31 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.35\00:00:54.42 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:54.45\00:00:57.49 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 00:00:57.52\00:01:00.42 and the blind children, 00:01:00.46\00:01:01.79 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:01.82\00:01:04.66 But above all, Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:04.69\00:01:08.53 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.56\00:01:11.93 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:11.97\00:01:14.60 This is Hope In Motion. 00:01:14.64\00:01:16.40 Our television series Hope In Motion 00:01:20.08\00:01:22.61 has been a big success 00:01:22.64\00:01:24.41 and we want to continue to share with you 00:01:24.45\00:01:27.15 some of the field stories 00:01:27.18\00:01:28.75 that we have filmed over the years. 00:01:28.78\00:01:31.25 So just from time to time, it may refer to Asian Aid 00:01:31.29\00:01:35.46 as we reflect on these great stories 00:01:35.49\00:01:38.69 as we share them with you. 00:01:38.73\00:01:40.20 The medical ministry 00:01:46.70\00:01:48.04 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:01:48.07\00:01:49.70 not only attends to the medical needs, 00:01:49.74\00:01:51.94 but also shows the love of Jesus 00:01:51.97\00:01:54.01 to those who come to its facilities 00:01:54.04\00:01:56.01 seeking medical treatment. 00:01:56.04\00:01:57.91 In this episode of Hope in Motion, 00:01:57.95\00:02:00.12 we go to Giffard Memorial Hospital 00:02:00.15\00:02:02.32 and the College of Nursing in Nuzvid, India, 00:02:02.35\00:02:04.99 and see how Child Impact International 00:02:05.02\00:02:07.12 is helping this pioneering institution 00:02:07.16\00:02:09.59 in training young people in God's service. 00:02:09.62\00:02:12.19 I guess, we traditionally think of sponsorship of children 00:02:12.23\00:02:15.16 sitting in a classroom. 00:02:15.20\00:02:16.83 But here, at Giffard Memorial Hospital, 00:02:16.87\00:02:19.33 we see the end result, 00:02:19.37\00:02:20.74 we see the success of girls, 00:02:20.77\00:02:24.07 especially who are now doing full nursing courses, 00:02:24.11\00:02:28.34 who are making a real contribution 00:02:28.38\00:02:30.78 to the medical work of the church. 00:02:30.81\00:02:32.41 Usha Rani is a second year nursing student 00:02:44.39\00:02:46.80 at the College of Nursing in Nuzvid, India. 00:02:46.83\00:02:49.60 As part of Giffard Memorial Hospital, 00:02:49.63\00:02:51.73 the College of Nursing brings in aspiring nursing students 00:02:51.77\00:02:54.87 from Adventist backgrounds like Usha. 00:02:54.90\00:02:57.84 Child Impact International over the years 00:02:57.87\00:03:00.24 has helped many young women like Usha through sponsorship. 00:03:00.28\00:03:04.11 Because of the Asian Aid 00:03:04.15\00:03:06.15 many, many, many students 00:03:06.18\00:03:08.65 could educate themselves in our college. 00:03:08.68\00:03:12.15 It's a tremendous opportunity for the students 00:03:12.19\00:03:17.79 to grab that and to excel in their studies 00:03:17.83\00:03:20.73 and then educate themselves 00:03:20.76\00:03:24.17 and then have a bright future. 00:03:24.20\00:03:27.44 Usha Rani is looking forward to this bright future. 00:03:27.47\00:03:30.67 Having born into a poor Adventist family, 00:03:30.71\00:03:33.14 Usha has been supported 00:03:33.17\00:03:34.51 by Child Impact sponsorship program 00:03:34.54\00:03:36.68 from kindergarten. 00:03:36.71\00:03:38.18 She is the youngest of four girls in the family, 00:03:38.21\00:03:40.48 and Usha's parents had to constantly worry 00:03:40.52\00:03:42.98 about their financial instability. 00:03:43.02\00:03:44.85 This led to marital issues between her parents 00:03:44.89\00:03:47.72 and they separated when Usha was still a young girl. 00:03:47.76\00:03:50.73 Her mother took care of her and her three older sisters 00:03:50.76\00:03:53.43 by selling vegetables in the village. 00:03:53.46\00:03:55.50 Their hardship was compounded 00:03:55.53\00:03:57.20 when her mother was hospitalized with jaundice. 00:03:57.23\00:04:01.00 By the time they realized 00:04:01.04\00:04:02.37 that she is suffering from jaundice 00:04:02.40\00:04:03.91 and take her for treatment it became worse. 00:04:03.94\00:04:06.68 They couldn't treat her. 00:04:06.71\00:04:08.38 Doctors said no hope and she was like 00:04:08.41\00:04:11.55 one week in the hospital 00:04:11.58\00:04:13.85 but no improvement in the health status. 00:04:13.88\00:04:16.72 Like that she passed away in the hospital only. 00:04:16.75\00:04:19.95 That time I was in hostel only, 00:04:19.99\00:04:21.66 I didn't know anything about my mother's health condition. 00:04:21.69\00:04:25.36 Then by the time I came here 00:04:25.39\00:04:26.90 she is no more, she passed away. 00:04:26.93\00:04:31.13 When our mother passed away, 00:04:31.17\00:04:33.03 I wanted to bring my husband here 00:04:33.07\00:04:35.14 and take care of my sister 00:04:35.17\00:04:36.91 because she was still very young at that time. 00:04:36.94\00:04:39.31 But my husband was not willing, 00:04:39.34\00:04:41.24 he said, "When your father is not taking care of you all, 00:04:41.28\00:04:44.41 why should I take care of her?" 00:04:44.45\00:04:46.28 So my husband left me 00:04:46.31\00:04:47.72 and I came here to take care of them. 00:04:47.75\00:04:52.05 Usha's mother died five years ago 00:04:52.09\00:04:54.16 and legal requirements forced her father 00:04:54.19\00:04:56.32 to be her guardian. 00:04:56.36\00:04:58.26 After my mother died 00:04:58.29\00:05:00.50 it's compulsory I should stay with my father 00:05:00.53\00:05:03.10 because no source for me. 00:05:03.13\00:05:05.07 Nobody used to take care of us 00:05:05.10\00:05:06.43 because already my three sisters, 00:05:06.47\00:05:08.10 they got married. 00:05:08.14\00:05:09.47 They went to stay with their husbands. 00:05:09.50\00:05:11.97 After that when I was staying with my father, 00:05:12.01\00:05:15.18 he also became sick 00:05:15.21\00:05:16.95 because he also become old, he couldn't work. 00:05:16.98\00:05:21.25 He is diabetic patient. 00:05:21.28\00:05:23.15 Then due to some family problems 00:05:23.18\00:05:27.06 my elder sister, 00:05:27.09\00:05:28.42 she had some problem with her husband. 00:05:28.46\00:05:31.23 She came home 00:05:31.26\00:05:32.59 and now she is taking care of my father and me. 00:05:32.63\00:05:35.20 Poverty passes on from generation to generation. 00:05:41.70\00:05:45.11 Without any education, people in rural India 00:05:45.14\00:05:47.74 are forced to follow their parents 00:05:47.78\00:05:49.44 into working in the fields or doing manual labor, 00:05:49.48\00:05:52.61 sometimes as domestic help. 00:05:52.65\00:05:54.78 Usha's father, although old and diabetic, 00:05:54.82\00:05:57.42 is forced to work in the fields nearby 00:05:57.45\00:05:59.75 just so he can earn something to support himself 00:05:59.79\00:06:02.49 and his eldest daughter who is caring for him. 00:06:02.52\00:06:04.76 Usha's sister, Rathnakumari 00:06:10.23\00:06:12.30 owns a petty shop selling vegetables. 00:06:12.33\00:06:14.87 Fortunately for Usha she has the opportunity 00:06:14.90\00:06:17.61 to break the shackles of poverty. 00:06:17.64\00:06:19.64 Child Impact sponsorship has given her that opportunity 00:06:19.67\00:06:22.74 to uplift herself 00:06:22.78\00:06:24.15 and help her support her family 00:06:24.18\00:06:25.78 in the future. 00:06:25.81\00:06:27.15 If you help the family, 00:06:27.18\00:06:28.88 that help may not be for longer time. 00:06:28.92\00:06:31.49 But if you help a child in a family 00:06:31.52\00:06:34.32 and educate the child 00:06:34.36\00:06:35.69 and that child when he gets into job, 00:06:35.72\00:06:37.86 he can take care of the entire family 00:06:37.89\00:06:39.83 and it can be a big blessing to the entire family. 00:06:39.86\00:06:42.93 So therefore, Seventh-day Adventist, 00:06:42.96\00:06:45.43 wherever we have our colleges, 00:06:45.47\00:06:46.97 wherever we have a school, wherever we have our hospitals, 00:06:47.00\00:06:50.07 we take it like a privilege to invite students 00:06:50.11\00:06:53.24 from all backgrounds and to educate them 00:06:53.27\00:06:56.21 so that they would become workers, 00:06:56.24\00:07:00.88 come back to our institutions 00:07:00.92\00:07:03.32 and serve in our institutions. 00:07:03.35\00:07:05.25 So what we do, 00:07:05.29\00:07:06.62 it will not go waste but they will come back 00:07:06.65\00:07:09.56 and then help taking care of responsibilities, 00:07:09.59\00:07:12.63 taking care of various jobs that we entrust to them. 00:07:12.66\00:07:16.83 I would say if there is no sponsorship, 00:07:16.87\00:07:19.47 I think majority of them 00:07:19.50\00:07:21.00 will not be having this education 00:07:21.04\00:07:22.60 that they are actually going through. 00:07:22.64\00:07:24.41 And if you actually take the financial background 00:07:24.44\00:07:27.24 of many of our students, 00:07:27.28\00:07:28.61 they come from very poor backgrounds. 00:07:28.64\00:07:30.68 And some of them have a really pathetic background, 00:07:30.71\00:07:34.22 and this sponsorship that they are getting 00:07:34.25\00:07:36.65 from very kind donors, 00:07:36.69\00:07:38.62 I mean, God has, I pray that God will bless them 00:07:38.65\00:07:41.62 because they're really doing a lot of services. 00:07:41.66\00:07:44.06 And by helping these poor students 00:07:44.09\00:07:47.16 in getting some education, 00:07:47.20\00:07:48.53 they are really going a long way 00:07:48.56\00:07:50.57 to build a bright future for these students. 00:07:50.60\00:07:52.63 Without this sponsorship, I'm sure they will not be able 00:07:52.67\00:07:55.20 to get this education and they will not be able 00:07:55.24\00:07:58.17 to do what they're doing and their future 00:07:58.21\00:08:00.41 we do not know what it could be 00:08:00.44\00:08:02.14 given the financial conditions from which they come. 00:08:02.18\00:08:04.61 So I really pray, we always remember these sponsors 00:08:04.65\00:08:07.52 because we do not know whether they have seen 00:08:07.55\00:08:09.62 these children or not, 00:08:09.65\00:08:10.99 but with kindness they've been helping our students, 00:08:11.02\00:08:13.96 and we really appreciate them, 00:08:13.99\00:08:15.39 and we pray that God will bless those sponsors 00:08:15.42\00:08:17.93 who have been helping our students. 00:08:17.96\00:08:21.13 I wouldn't have got that sponsorship 00:08:21.16\00:08:23.23 from Asian Aid, 00:08:23.26\00:08:24.63 definitely, I'm not sure that I would have studied 00:08:24.67\00:08:27.54 in such Adventist institutions. 00:08:27.57\00:08:30.94 Sponsorship is like 00:08:30.97\00:08:32.34 they are supporting me financially. 00:08:32.37\00:08:34.88 Everything they are giving books and all... 00:08:34.91\00:08:37.35 From LKG I was supported by Asian Aid help only. 00:08:37.38\00:08:42.15 Usha Rani has gone through 00:08:42.18\00:08:43.52 Child Impact sponsorship program 00:08:43.55\00:08:45.42 since kindergarten, and it is continuing 00:08:45.45\00:08:47.66 to support Usha through her nursing program 00:08:47.69\00:08:49.92 at the College of Nursing in Nuzvid. 00:08:49.96\00:08:52.69 Nurses are in high demand, and no doubt, 00:08:52.73\00:08:55.16 Usha would be employed almost immediately 00:08:55.20\00:08:57.47 upon her completing her nursing program. 00:08:57.50\00:09:00.20 Thanks to Child Impact sponsorship, 00:09:00.24\00:09:02.44 she will not only stand on her own 00:09:02.47\00:09:04.01 as a working professional, 00:09:04.04\00:09:05.57 but also be of service to her family, 00:09:05.61\00:09:07.84 and above all, to the community as a whole. 00:09:07.88\00:09:11.71 I guess we traditionally think of sponsorship of children 00:09:11.75\00:09:14.68 sitting in a classroom. 00:09:14.72\00:09:16.35 But here at Giffard Memorial hospital, 00:09:16.38\00:09:18.82 we see the end result, 00:09:18.85\00:09:20.29 we see the success of girls, 00:09:20.32\00:09:23.59 especially who are now doing full nursing courses, 00:09:23.63\00:09:27.70 who are making a real contribution 00:09:27.73\00:09:30.20 to the medical work of the church, 00:09:30.23\00:09:32.30 even to community hospitals. 00:09:32.33\00:09:34.24 My father cannot support us 00:09:38.01\00:09:40.31 and we don't have any brothers to support us. 00:09:40.34\00:09:43.75 I'm so thankful to Asian Aid and my sister's sponsors. 00:09:43.78\00:09:48.58 If Asian Aid is not there, 00:09:48.62\00:09:50.55 I would not make her to study this much. 00:09:50.59\00:09:53.02 We would have gotten her married in the village 00:09:53.05\00:09:55.59 and she may be doing some manual labor 00:09:55.62\00:09:57.69 in the fields. 00:09:57.73\00:09:59.33 Because of Asian Aid, 00:09:59.36\00:10:00.70 my sister is able to receive an education, 00:10:00.73\00:10:03.63 and I want to thank the sponsor. 00:10:03.67\00:10:06.30 These are people who do not know us, 00:10:06.33\00:10:08.60 they have not met us and we have not seen them, 00:10:08.64\00:10:11.87 but still they are sponsoring my sister. 00:10:11.91\00:10:14.64 I'm able to give my emotional support to her 00:10:14.68\00:10:17.58 only because of these sponsors. 00:10:17.61\00:10:19.81 I'm praying for them, 00:10:19.85\00:10:21.22 I pray that God will prosper them 00:10:21.25\00:10:23.08 and give them good health. 00:10:23.12\00:10:24.82 I thank them with all my heart. 00:10:24.85\00:10:26.69 The healing ministry 00:10:30.26\00:10:31.59 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church 00:10:31.63\00:10:33.06 is in the forefront of its mission 00:10:33.09\00:10:34.73 to spread the good news and the love of Jesus 00:10:34.76\00:10:37.57 through its clinics and hospitals. 00:10:37.60\00:10:39.43 At Giffard Memorial, young people are being trained 00:10:39.47\00:10:42.17 in God's service. 00:10:42.20\00:10:43.64 And at School of Nursing, they are not only trained 00:10:43.67\00:10:46.17 to give manual nursing care, but also show Christian love 00:10:46.21\00:10:50.05 and to share God's love with those 00:10:50.08\00:10:51.95 who come seeking medical help. 00:10:51.98\00:10:54.22 I think it's a great blessing being sponsored. 00:10:54.25\00:10:56.92 I'm thankful for what they did for my life, 00:10:56.95\00:11:00.26 for bringing me to the stage. 00:11:00.29\00:11:02.12 And I hope one day 00:11:02.16\00:11:03.49 that I would do something for them. 00:11:03.53\00:11:05.53 Imagine with me for a moment that you're a small child 00:11:12.87\00:11:15.97 living on the streets of India, the sandals on your feet 00:11:16.00\00:11:19.14 lost their comfort weeks ago, 00:11:19.17\00:11:21.64 your favorite shirt just got another hole. 00:11:21.68\00:11:24.61 It's sad, mommy died last year 00:11:24.65\00:11:26.58 but what makes you feel even worse 00:11:26.61\00:11:29.15 is that your dad 00:11:29.18\00:11:30.52 chose not to be your dad anymore. 00:11:30.55\00:11:33.09 Hey, I'm Shawn Boonstra, 00:11:33.12\00:11:34.46 Honorary Ambassador for Child Impact International, 00:11:34.49\00:11:37.79 an organization that is a supportive ministry 00:11:37.83\00:11:40.30 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:11:40.33\00:11:42.46 Something like 15 to 25 million little girls and boys in India 00:11:42.50\00:11:46.63 share similar stories to the one I just told you. 00:11:46.67\00:11:49.94 Many are orphaned at a young age 00:11:49.97\00:11:51.54 with little food to eat 00:11:51.57\00:11:53.27 and no hope. 00:11:53.31\00:11:54.81 Child Impact serves to bridge the gap 00:11:54.84\00:11:56.75 between hardship and education. 00:11:56.78\00:12:00.22 It's a unique ministry that serves children in poverty 00:12:00.25\00:12:03.18 in Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. 00:12:03.22\00:12:08.26 Over three and a half thousand children 00:12:08.29\00:12:11.09 are provided an Adventist education 00:12:11.13\00:12:13.29 and lives are changed 00:12:13.33\00:12:14.83 through the numerous development projects. 00:12:14.86\00:12:17.43 Working in these countries, 00:12:17.47\00:12:19.40 Child Impact has come face to face 00:12:19.43\00:12:21.47 with issues like child slavery, 00:12:21.50\00:12:24.04 poor or no education, child trafficking, 00:12:24.07\00:12:27.41 abandoned babies, lack of clean water, 00:12:27.44\00:12:30.98 and a high number of orphans. 00:12:31.01\00:12:33.05 This list is not short on challenges, 00:12:33.08\00:12:36.05 yet the needs are being met. 00:12:36.08\00:12:38.22 You know, my family sponsors Sheila, 00:12:38.25\00:12:40.29 a young lady at the Sunrise Orphanage 00:12:40.32\00:12:42.52 in India. 00:12:42.56\00:12:43.89 For the past couple of years, 00:12:43.93\00:12:45.26 I'm proud of how my family 00:12:45.29\00:12:46.86 has been able to impact her life 00:12:46.90\00:12:48.96 for the better. 00:12:49.00\00:12:50.33 Word has it, she just started college. 00:12:50.37\00:12:54.14 What I've come to understand 00:12:54.17\00:12:56.00 is that the children Child Impact supports 00:12:56.04\00:12:59.24 are more than just names, or faces on a screen, 00:12:59.27\00:13:02.04 or a flyer, 00:13:02.08\00:13:03.55 they're people with a story, 00:13:03.58\00:13:06.28 a story whose ending has not been written, 00:13:06.31\00:13:09.48 instead another chapter is being composed. 00:13:09.52\00:13:13.25 It reminds me of something that Jesus once said, 00:13:13.29\00:13:15.99 "Whatever you do for the least 00:13:16.02\00:13:17.69 of these brothers and sisters of Mine, 00:13:17.73\00:13:20.00 you do for Me." 00:13:20.03\00:13:22.30 Join me and others like me throughout the world 00:13:22.33\00:13:25.80 who are sponsoring a child monthly 00:13:25.83\00:13:28.10 to provide like Jesus did, to support like Jesus did, 00:13:28.14\00:13:32.41 to love like Jesus did. 00:13:32.44\00:13:34.94 You too can make a lifelong impact 00:13:34.98\00:13:37.38 on the life of someone 00:13:37.41\00:13:38.75 who is waiting for you to say yes. 00:13:38.78\00:13:40.98 Yes, today you will consider sponsorship 00:13:41.02\00:13:43.92 right now with Child Impact or one of our other projects. 00:13:43.95\00:13:47.42 Yes, to give hope to a precious child today. 00:13:47.46\00:13:51.36
