Child Impact International is an organization giving hope, 00:00:07.20\00:00:11.17 previously called Asian Aid. 00:00:11.21\00:00:13.14 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.17\00:00:15.78 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:15.81\00:00:18.15 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:18.18\00:00:20.18 and their communities. 00:00:20.22\00:00:21.78 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.82\00:00:24.35 in the lives of children 00:00:24.39\00:00:25.75 and those who are in need, serving communities in India, 00:00:25.79\00:00:28.79 Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:00:28.82\00:00:32.19 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:32.23\00:00:34.60 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.63\00:00:36.03 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people, 00:00:36.06\00:00:39.03 and their investment has proven infinite returns, 00:00:39.07\00:00:41.97 driven by the dedication to helping those 00:00:42.00\00:00:44.37 who have the least. 00:00:44.41\00:00:45.74 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.77\00:00:47.64 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.68\00:00:49.78 implementing diverse development projects, 00:00:49.81\00:00:52.28 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.31\00:00:54.38 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:00:54.42\00:00:57.49 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 00:00:57.52\00:01:00.46 and the blind children, 00:01:00.49\00:01:01.86 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:01.89\00:01:04.66 But above all, Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:04.69\00:01:08.56 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.60\00:01:11.87 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:11.90\00:01:14.60 This is Hope In Motion. 00:01:14.64\00:01:16.20 At Adventist mission schools like this one in Bangladesh, 00:01:21.88\00:01:25.28 Child Impact International sponsors hundreds of children. 00:01:25.31\00:01:29.08 We often think that sponsorship 00:01:29.12\00:01:31.45 only impacts on the life of the child, 00:01:31.49\00:01:34.09 but it's much wider than that. 00:01:34.12\00:01:35.99 It impacts on the parents and on the community. 00:01:36.02\00:01:39.43 But more important, it impacts on the school. 00:01:39.46\00:01:42.86 It becomes valuable income for the school and, 00:01:42.90\00:01:46.13 then in turn, 00:01:46.17\00:01:47.50 it impacts on hundreds of other children. 00:01:47.54\00:01:49.70 I just ask that you would consider 00:01:49.74\00:01:52.04 sponsoring a child with Child Impact 00:01:52.07\00:01:54.71 or supporting one of its valuable projects 00:01:54.74\00:01:57.35 that will improve education 00:01:57.38\00:01:59.35 and Adventist mission schools like this one right here. 00:01:59.38\00:02:02.68 Bobbili, a small rural town in Andhra Pradesh, India, 00:02:30.35\00:02:33.88 has nothing to offer to a visitor. 00:02:33.92\00:02:36.48 Its streets, often bustling and chaotic, 00:02:36.52\00:02:39.25 are typical of rural towns in India. 00:02:39.29\00:02:41.19 Poverty is widespread, 00:02:44.29\00:02:45.93 and people struggle to meet ends 00:02:45.96\00:02:47.66 doing menial jobs 00:02:47.70\00:02:49.03 and often tending to paddy fields 00:02:49.06\00:02:50.70 owned by landlords. 00:02:50.73\00:02:52.10 Visits to villages around here only amplify one's perception 00:02:59.24\00:03:03.35 of abject poverty people live in on a daily basis. 00:03:03.38\00:03:06.88 But it is in this despairing and gloomy environment, 00:03:06.92\00:03:09.62 we often get to see and experience 00:03:09.65\00:03:11.72 hopefulness and optimism. 00:03:11.75\00:03:13.46 Over the last 15 years, 00:03:21.93\00:03:23.80 Child Impact International 00:03:23.83\00:03:25.60 has undertaken numerous development work 00:03:25.63\00:03:28.04 in and around the Bobbili area. 00:03:28.07\00:03:30.27 The Sunrise Children's Home, 00:03:30.31\00:03:31.94 situated about ten miles from Bobbili, 00:03:31.97\00:03:34.44 is one such project 00:03:34.48\00:03:35.94 that gives orphaned and abandoned children 00:03:35.98\00:03:38.11 an ideal place to live and learn. 00:03:38.15\00:03:40.42 Ten-year-old Akhil Mutaka 00:03:52.09\00:03:54.06 and his younger brother Charan 00:03:54.10\00:03:55.70 were orphaned at a very early age 00:03:55.73\00:03:57.87 and came to live at Sunrise Home two years ago. 00:03:57.90\00:04:01.44 Their family belongs to a tribal community 00:04:01.47\00:04:03.67 who live in the mountainous region 00:04:03.71\00:04:05.04 bordering the states of Odissa and Andhra Pradesh 00:04:05.07\00:04:07.64 in southeastern India. 00:04:07.68\00:04:10.25 This is Akhil and Charan's Auntie's house, 00:04:10.28\00:04:13.01 they're living here... 00:04:13.05\00:04:14.38 Actually they're up on the mountains, 00:04:14.42\00:04:15.95 live up on the mountains, they came down. 00:04:15.98\00:04:20.32 This is a very poor village. 00:04:20.36\00:04:22.02 And this village, no water facilities, 00:04:22.06\00:04:24.63 no agricultural facilities. 00:04:24.66\00:04:27.00 Total people are depending on the forest products. 00:04:27.03\00:04:29.70 They collect the forest products 00:04:29.73\00:04:31.10 and they survive. 00:04:31.13\00:04:32.47 In the afternoon, every afternoon, 00:04:32.50\00:04:34.14 they'll eat some porridge, 00:04:34.17\00:04:35.84 there's no rice or no other stuff 00:04:35.87\00:04:37.24 to fill their stomachs. 00:04:37.27\00:04:38.94 The night time only they'll cook 00:04:38.97\00:04:40.84 some little bit rice 00:04:40.88\00:04:42.21 and some vegetables, and they'll eat. 00:04:42.24\00:04:43.98 Every day, they eat one meal. 00:04:44.01\00:04:45.35 The majority of children at Sunrise Home 00:04:51.89\00:04:54.19 come from tribal villages and communities around Bobbili, 00:04:54.22\00:04:57.43 and the home is well regarded in and around Bobbili 00:04:57.46\00:05:00.53 because of Child Impact's development work 00:05:00.56\00:05:02.63 among the tribal people. 00:05:02.66\00:05:04.53 A few years ago, 00:05:04.57\00:05:05.90 Child Impact had conducted a vocational training program 00:05:05.93\00:05:08.74 for young men and women from the tribal community. 00:05:08.77\00:05:11.37 It was during one such project that Raj Varma, 00:05:11.41\00:05:14.68 Field Officer of Child Impact came across Akhil and Charan. 00:05:14.71\00:05:19.08 In 2014, 00:05:19.11\00:05:20.82 I came to this village for tribal development project, 00:05:20.85\00:05:24.12 so that time the Child Impact International 00:05:24.15\00:05:27.92 wants to do some development project 00:05:27.96\00:05:29.56 for the tribal people, 00:05:29.59\00:05:31.76 improve their living standards and the livelihood. 00:05:31.79\00:05:34.63 So that time, these ladies showed these children 00:05:34.66\00:05:39.37 and explained their story and requested me 00:05:39.40\00:05:43.67 to take them to the Sunrise orphanage. 00:05:43.71\00:05:47.34 Raj Varma had learned from the boys' relatives 00:05:47.38\00:05:49.94 that their father had fallen from a tree and had died, 00:05:49.98\00:05:52.65 and the boys came to live with their aunts 00:05:52.68\00:05:54.45 who took turns to look after them. 00:05:54.48\00:05:56.18 When inquired about 00:05:56.22\00:05:57.55 the whereabouts of their mother, 00:05:57.59\00:05:58.92 Raj Varma was told that she had died of malaria. 00:05:58.95\00:06:02.19 Seeing their pitiable living conditions, 00:06:02.22\00:06:04.43 he brought Akhil and Charan to Sunrise home. 00:06:04.46\00:06:07.33 It was at Sunrise, 00:06:07.36\00:06:08.70 the boys revealed the real whereabouts of their mother. 00:06:08.73\00:06:12.53 According to my knowledge, when I asked the children, 00:06:12.57\00:06:15.94 when I'm writing the story, 00:06:15.97\00:06:18.87 Akhil, elder one, he said, 00:06:18.91\00:06:21.14 "My mother went away with another man." 00:06:21.18\00:06:24.11 I felt very sad and very bad. 00:06:24.15\00:06:27.25 Children when they grow up, 00:06:27.28\00:06:29.65 they won't have love towards the parents. 00:06:29.68\00:06:32.82 When they grow up, parents will come. 00:06:32.85\00:06:35.92 When the mother comes, when the children see them, 00:06:35.96\00:06:39.69 what respect they will have. 00:06:39.73\00:06:41.20 Parents they will never have the respect 00:06:41.23\00:06:43.33 because she just left and went away. 00:06:43.37\00:06:47.27 And immediately 00:06:47.30\00:06:48.64 when the children told like that, 00:06:48.67\00:06:50.01 I felt very bad and very sad also, 00:06:50.04\00:06:52.44 but as a mother, I'm giving them love. 00:06:52.47\00:06:56.54 And they know I am the mother, 00:06:56.58\00:06:58.65 so they love me and I too love them. 00:06:58.68\00:07:01.22 Now they're very happy. 00:07:01.25\00:07:02.88 This say, "Mama, you don't send us to home. 00:07:02.92\00:07:06.55 We don't want to stay there." 00:07:06.59\00:07:09.52 It is not uncommon for a single parent 00:07:09.56\00:07:11.83 in tribal communities to abandon their children 00:07:11.86\00:07:14.33 when his or her spouse dies. 00:07:14.36\00:07:15.96 And the children's relatives don't reveal the whole story 00:07:16.00\00:07:18.77 because they are ashamed of the truth 00:07:18.80\00:07:20.44 and are unwilling to reveal the customs and practices 00:07:20.47\00:07:23.34 that are prevalent in their community 00:07:23.37\00:07:25.21 that may seem bizarre and cruel to an outsider. 00:07:25.24\00:07:29.74 Well, I don't think we can understand 00:07:29.78\00:07:31.35 the life of an orphan. 00:07:31.38\00:07:32.91 They may not know who their parents are 00:07:32.95\00:07:35.28 or they may know the tragic circumstances they come from. 00:07:35.32\00:07:39.19 So we not only give them an education, 00:07:39.22\00:07:41.72 we give them a home, 00:07:41.76\00:07:43.16 but we give them hope, we give them a future, 00:07:43.19\00:07:46.26 and just for a child knowing that they've got a future, 00:07:46.29\00:07:49.53 knowing that they've got some way 00:07:49.56\00:07:50.90 they can go in their life 00:07:50.93\00:07:52.57 makes a huge difference to them. 00:07:52.60\00:07:55.04 And we're just so excited 00:07:55.07\00:07:56.47 that we can be a part of making that total difference. 00:07:56.50\00:08:02.04 If they didn't come to Sunrise Home, today, 00:08:02.08\00:08:04.61 they might be somewhere, no one knows, 00:08:04.65\00:08:07.58 no educational facilities, no proper facilities, 00:08:07.62\00:08:10.02 and also no food. 00:08:10.05\00:08:12.95 Even though they fill their stomach 00:08:12.99\00:08:14.62 with some porridge, 00:08:14.66\00:08:15.99 that's not a valuable food. 00:08:16.02\00:08:17.99 Yeah, not valuable food, 00:08:18.03\00:08:20.43 most of the children are malnutritious. 00:08:20.46\00:08:24.10 There is no children... 00:08:24.13\00:08:26.30 if they didn't come to Sunrise Home, 00:08:26.33\00:08:28.67 by this time the children might have been disappeared. 00:08:28.70\00:08:32.11 Sunrise Home has given Akhil and Charan 00:09:00.27\00:09:02.80 a sense of belonging, a sense of place 00:09:02.84\00:09:05.14 that is safe and comfortable. 00:09:05.17\00:09:06.74 A place where they don't feel like they're orphaned 00:09:06.78\00:09:08.98 or abandoned. 00:09:09.01\00:09:10.35 Thanks to Akhil and Charan's sponsors, 00:09:10.38\00:09:12.61 Child Impact is giving them a new life at Sunrise Home 00:09:12.65\00:09:16.15 and giving them an opportunity to receive a proper education. 00:09:16.18\00:09:20.69 Really, I want to thank Akhil and Charan's sponsors 00:09:20.72\00:09:24.23 for playing an important role in their lives. 00:09:24.26\00:09:27.30 And now they're very happy here. 00:09:27.33\00:09:29.10 I'm only the caretaker who is taking care of them 00:09:29.13\00:09:31.67 and molding them, 00:09:31.70\00:09:33.03 but there are important persons 00:09:33.07\00:09:34.80 who had given them the good life. 00:09:34.84\00:09:38.41 Well, when I go to Sunrise Home, 00:09:38.44\00:09:40.88 children like Akhil and Charan just come running towards you. 00:09:40.91\00:09:45.18 They're just so happy to see you. 00:09:45.21\00:09:47.32 It's as if they have a sense 00:09:47.35\00:09:49.48 that you are a part of their family. 00:09:49.52\00:09:52.02 And it's one of the most rewarding aspects of the job 00:09:52.05\00:09:55.82 that I have. 00:09:55.86\00:09:57.19 And I'm very grateful that I've had this experience 00:09:57.23\00:10:00.00 of having children just so happy beaming, 00:10:00.03\00:10:03.23 and if you saw them when they first come in 00:10:03.26\00:10:05.73 to where they are now, 00:10:05.77\00:10:07.37 we're not only giving them education 00:10:07.40\00:10:09.67 but we're making their lives. 00:10:09.70\00:10:11.61 We literally become a part of their family. 00:10:11.64\00:10:14.38 And it's just so exciting. 00:10:14.41\00:10:16.98 And I'm just so grateful 00:10:17.01\00:10:18.98 that I can be a part of this work 00:10:19.01\00:10:21.42 that the donors do. 00:10:21.45\00:10:22.78 Today, Child Impact International 00:10:29.12\00:10:31.56 is reaching out to children in need. 00:10:31.59\00:10:33.43 And for brothers like Akhil and Charan, 00:10:33.46\00:10:35.70 Sunrise Home is a safe haven, 00:10:35.73\00:10:37.87 providing not just their basic needs 00:10:37.90\00:10:39.73 and an opportunity for an education 00:10:39.77\00:10:41.94 but giving them parental love and affection, 00:10:41.97\00:10:44.57 a chance and a hope for a brighter future. 00:10:44.61\00:10:48.74 Coming where I do from America, 00:10:48.78\00:10:52.78 I knew, I've read, I've heard the stories, 00:10:52.81\00:10:56.02 I've seen the film clips, 00:10:56.05\00:10:59.25 but until, until you walk... 00:10:59.29\00:11:05.39 Until you walk on these sidewalks of the home 00:11:09.53\00:11:14.44 where the children are staying 00:11:14.47\00:11:16.74 and you see what is going on in their faces, 00:11:16.77\00:11:22.04 you can be assured that a good work is happening, 00:11:22.08\00:11:26.31 that you can rest assured that lives are being changed, 00:11:26.35\00:11:31.69 children are being made happy. 00:11:31.72\00:11:34.02 And it was a powerful experience 00:11:34.06\00:11:36.22 that allayed any concerns that I have about the value 00:11:36.26\00:11:43.16 that I am getting for my sponsorship. 00:11:43.20\00:11:46.80 There's no problem. 00:11:46.84\00:11:48.17 I just love, love what's going on. 00:11:48.20\00:11:50.04 Sponsoring children in activities 00:11:59.48\00:12:03.92 like these mission schools and opportunities 00:12:03.95\00:12:07.29 is a tremendous way to help form the character 00:12:07.32\00:12:11.73 of young people as they look to the future, 00:12:11.76\00:12:14.76 they will never forget 00:12:14.80\00:12:16.73 their association in a Christian environment. 00:12:16.77\00:12:19.73 And by God's grace, 00:12:19.77\00:12:21.10 many of them will become 00:12:21.14\00:12:22.87 members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:12:22.90\00:12:25.47 It is absolutely a powerful witness 00:12:25.51\00:12:28.91 to sponsor a child in Child Impact 00:12:28.94\00:12:32.45 and so many other
