Child Impact International is an organization giving hope, 00:00:07.27\00:00:11.17 previously called Asian Aid. 00:00:11.21\00:00:13.21 Child Impact International is an organization 00:00:13.24\00:00:15.88 fostering permanent positive change 00:00:15.91\00:00:18.11 in the lives of disadvantaged children and their communities. 00:00:18.15\00:00:21.78 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:00:21.82\00:00:24.29 in the lives of children and those who are in need. 00:00:24.32\00:00:27.26 Serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, 00:00:27.29\00:00:30.46 Sri Lanka, Myanmar, 00:00:30.49\00:00:32.23 and will soon expand to other countries. 00:00:32.26\00:00:34.60 For the last 50 years, 00:00:34.63\00:00:36.03 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:00:36.06\00:00:39.03 and their investment is proving infinite returns, 00:00:39.07\00:00:42.00 driven by the dedication 00:00:42.04\00:00:43.41 to helping those who have the least. 00:00:43.44\00:00:45.57 Child Impact is an organization 00:00:45.61\00:00:47.58 focused on the welfare of children, 00:00:47.61\00:00:49.74 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:49.78\00:00:52.28 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:00:52.31\00:00:54.45 Their outreach expands from child rescue operations, 00:00:54.48\00:00:57.49 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 00:00:57.52\00:01:00.49 and the blind children giving them a sense of place, 00:01:00.52\00:01:03.79 a home, but above all, 00:01:03.83\00:01:05.53 Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:05.56\00:01:08.60 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:08.63\00:01:11.87 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:11.90\00:01:14.57 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:14.60\00:01:16.34 Hello. 00:01:20.84\00:01:22.18 My name is Jim Rennie, 00:01:22.21\00:01:23.55 and I'm the CEO of Child Impact International, 00:01:23.58\00:01:26.68 and I've been in this role for over 10 years. 00:01:26.72\00:01:30.09 I just wanted to tell you a little bit 00:01:30.12\00:01:32.02 about our organization. 00:01:32.05\00:01:34.82 It used to be called Asian Aid, 00:01:34.86\00:01:37.23 and it started in Australia just over 50 years ago. 00:01:37.26\00:01:41.66 And now we are based in Collegedale, Tennessee. 00:01:41.70\00:01:45.37 We are registered 501c3 charity, 00:01:45.40\00:01:49.10 and we're members of ISI and OCI. 00:01:49.14\00:01:52.97 Our organization operates in India, Bangladesh, 00:01:53.01\00:01:56.34 Sri Lankan Nepal, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea, 00:01:56.38\00:02:00.58 and later in the year 00:02:00.62\00:02:01.95 we'll be expanding to other countries. 00:02:01.98\00:02:05.05 Public evangelism is banned or limited in these countries. 00:02:05.09\00:02:09.52 So Adventist mission schools 00:02:09.56\00:02:11.76 are one of the main keys to outreach. 00:02:11.79\00:02:15.63 Our main activity is child sponsorship, 00:02:15.66\00:02:18.60 where we take a needy child and place them 00:02:18.63\00:02:21.70 in an Adventist Mission School. 00:02:21.74\00:02:24.07 Child sponsorship is a unique way of being involved 00:02:24.11\00:02:27.84 in the mission field every day, 00:02:27.88\00:02:30.25 as we take a child based on need 00:02:30.28\00:02:32.71 and give them an education. 00:02:32.75\00:02:34.98 Normally, they may not get an education, 00:02:35.02\00:02:37.62 and we give them hope by giving them an education 00:02:37.65\00:02:41.26 in an Adventist Mission School. 00:02:41.29\00:02:43.89 There are different types of sponsorship, 00:02:43.93\00:02:46.43 these include a day student 00:02:46.46\00:02:48.23 who's just a child that walks from their home 00:02:48.26\00:02:51.27 to the Adventist Mission School, 00:02:51.30\00:02:53.27 and that's $25 a month, there is a boarder, 00:02:53.30\00:02:56.91 who boards at the Adventist Mission School 00:02:56.94\00:02:59.67 and that's $38 a month, 00:02:59.71\00:03:01.94 and then we have our special needs children 00:03:01.98\00:03:04.65 who are blind, deaf, or orphans which are $48 a month. 00:03:04.68\00:03:09.85 Not only does sponsorship give them an education, 00:03:09.88\00:03:13.42 but it also gives that family hope, 00:03:13.46\00:03:15.79 knowing that their child is receiving an education. 00:03:15.82\00:03:19.56 So not only does it benefit the child and the family, 00:03:19.59\00:03:23.37 but the key thing was that it also has an impact 00:03:23.40\00:03:26.80 on the mission school's finances, 00:03:26.84\00:03:29.30 as this is guaranteed income for their child. 00:03:29.34\00:03:33.27 Our funds go direct to the mission school, 00:03:33.31\00:03:36.11 so we can assure you or the donor 00:03:36.14\00:03:38.61 that they are being used for the correct purpose. 00:03:38.65\00:03:41.48 There are two ways 00:03:41.52\00:03:42.85 you can become involved in sponsorship, 00:03:42.88\00:03:45.15 you can sponsor your own particular child 00:03:45.19\00:03:48.96 and you'll receive information about the child, 00:03:48.99\00:03:52.16 you'll receive reports 00:03:52.19\00:03:53.90 and you will even receive letters from your child, 00:03:53.93\00:03:57.47 and so you are directly connected to a specific child. 00:03:57.50\00:04:01.97 The other way you can give, 00:04:02.00\00:04:03.37 if you don't want to sponsor a child, 00:04:03.41\00:04:05.64 is to contribute to the unsponsored child fund. 00:04:05.67\00:04:09.94 Right now we have over 400 unsponsored children 00:04:09.98\00:04:14.52 and that is a big need for us. 00:04:14.55\00:04:16.75 We also fund three orphanages, 00:04:16.79\00:04:19.49 including Sunrise Home in India. 00:04:19.52\00:04:22.49 Sunrise Home has over 150 orphans, 00:04:22.52\00:04:26.16 and we funded 100%. 00:04:26.19\00:04:28.73 I really love going there 00:04:28.76\00:04:30.27 because these kids have been given a home. 00:04:30.30\00:04:33.60 Many of them come from terrible backgrounds. 00:04:33.64\00:04:36.44 Some have been found on railway stations. 00:04:36.47\00:04:39.07 And so Sunrise Home gives them a future, gives them a hope, 00:04:39.11\00:04:44.01 and gives them an education. 00:04:44.05\00:04:46.15 Sunrise is located in rural India with a farm, 00:04:46.18\00:04:49.68 and it's certainly a home that gives these children hope, 00:04:49.72\00:04:53.32 and education, and a future life. 00:04:53.36\00:04:56.42 We are really proud of what our donors have done 00:04:56.46\00:04:59.13 with Sunrise Home 00:04:59.16\00:05:00.50 and over the years we've seen it grow. 00:05:00.53\00:05:02.86 And now we see the older children 00:05:02.90\00:05:05.10 that have really made progress through the years. 00:05:05.13\00:05:08.07 And I just want to thank the donors 00:05:08.10\00:05:10.24 that really helped us at the start 00:05:10.27\00:05:12.54 with building Sunrise Home 00:05:12.57\00:05:14.91 and for the progress that it's made. 00:05:14.94\00:05:17.75 Child Impact supporters also funded school for the blind, 00:05:17.78\00:05:21.68 and a school for the deaf 00:05:21.72\00:05:23.39 run by the Adventist Church in India. 00:05:23.42\00:05:26.09 These are very unique special schools, 00:05:26.12\00:05:29.19 as they take special needs children 00:05:29.22\00:05:31.79 from poor villages 00:05:31.83\00:05:33.46 and give them a specialized education 00:05:33.50\00:05:36.77 in an Adventist Mission School environment. 00:05:36.80\00:05:39.63 These children would have had no hope, 00:05:39.67\00:05:42.00 we've actually found blind children chained in a house 00:05:42.04\00:05:46.84 because their parents didn't know how to deal with them. 00:05:46.88\00:05:49.91 These special schools are making a real difference 00:05:49.94\00:05:53.31 and really need help throughout the whole year. 00:05:53.35\00:05:57.82 Operation Child Rescue is a Child Impact project 00:05:57.85\00:06:01.92 that is involved in rescuing, mainly trafficked children 00:06:01.96\00:06:05.76 that are in the high risk category. 00:06:05.79\00:06:08.50 In Bangalore, India 00:06:08.53\00:06:10.27 we have our rescue program, 00:06:10.30\00:06:12.27 which rescues young ladies from brothels 00:06:12.30\00:06:15.24 and we also run a rescue home for these girls. 00:06:15.27\00:06:19.41 This year we will also have a rescue program 00:06:19.44\00:06:22.44 from children from beggary and slave labor in factories. 00:06:22.48\00:06:26.78 You can give to specific projects 00:06:26.82\00:06:28.92 like the blind school, the deaf school, 00:06:28.95\00:06:31.39 or Operation Child Rescue, 00:06:31.42\00:06:33.52 or as I said previously you can sponsor a child. 00:06:33.56\00:06:37.96 A key part of my job is visiting the field 00:06:37.99\00:06:40.83 so that we can do the correct planning, 00:06:40.86\00:06:42.96 and also to visit the projects that we're involved in. 00:06:43.00\00:06:46.84 And it's just a true privilege to be able to sit down 00:06:46.87\00:06:50.34 and meet the children that we sponsor 00:06:50.37\00:06:53.01 and that we help. 00:06:53.04\00:06:54.38 They're just so excited to see you, 00:06:54.41\00:06:56.54 and they are so appreciative of the donors 00:06:56.58\00:06:59.78 and the work that they do, 00:06:59.81\00:07:01.45 and most of them are very happy in their school. 00:07:01.48\00:07:04.25 They certainly have their challenges. 00:07:04.29\00:07:06.86 In recent trips, 00:07:06.89\00:07:08.22 I've been going with some of the children 00:07:08.26\00:07:10.53 and visiting their homes. 00:07:10.56\00:07:12.63 And just recently in Bangladesh, 00:07:12.66\00:07:14.96 which is a very, very poor country, 00:07:15.00\00:07:17.63 I went with a little boy to visit his grandparents. 00:07:17.67\00:07:22.14 His grandparents look after him 00:07:22.17\00:07:24.11 because his parents have gone to work in the city, 00:07:24.14\00:07:27.18 because there's no longer any work for them 00:07:27.21\00:07:30.71 in the town where he comes from. 00:07:30.75\00:07:32.95 The grandparents are very poor. 00:07:32.98\00:07:35.72 But here was their little house, very basic, 00:07:35.75\00:07:39.15 and they had a drink for me and an orange. 00:07:39.19\00:07:42.09 That was all they could afford. 00:07:42.12\00:07:44.03 The reality is they are penniless, 00:07:44.06\00:07:46.59 but they were so appreciative 00:07:46.63\00:07:48.73 of what we are doing for their grandson. 00:07:48.76\00:07:51.57 And they just wanted to thank the donors, 00:07:51.60\00:07:55.04 but it had a big impact on me 00:07:55.07\00:07:56.67 because I really saw the difference we're making, 00:07:56.71\00:08:00.38 not only with the child but with the family, 00:08:00.41\00:08:03.68 and for the village that he comes from. 00:08:03.71\00:08:06.72 I can see the difference that we are making. 00:08:06.75\00:08:09.28 I can see the difference that these donors are making. 00:08:09.32\00:08:12.79 And I just want to tell you that I have total confidence 00:08:12.82\00:08:16.52 in the way we distribute our funds 00:08:16.56\00:08:18.89 and the work that we do. 00:08:18.93\00:08:20.53 Is it perfect? No. 00:08:20.56\00:08:22.33 But I know that by us sending the funds 00:08:22.36\00:08:25.37 direct to the school 00:08:25.40\00:08:26.94 or direct to the project 00:08:26.97\00:08:28.80 that we're doing the best we can 00:08:28.84\00:08:31.07 to ensure the correct use of the funds and the money. 00:08:31.11\00:08:35.01 I'm just so excited that we can carry out 00:08:35.04\00:08:37.98 this important mission in helping children 00:08:38.01\00:08:41.28 and introducing them to Jesus 00:08:41.32\00:08:43.55 through giving them a Christian education 00:08:43.59\00:08:46.86 in an Adventist Mission School. 00:08:46.89\00:08:48.56 Imagine with me for a moment 00:08:54.96\00:08:56.87 that you're a small child living on the streets of India, 00:08:56.90\00:09:00.07 the sandals on your feet lost their comfort weeks ago, 00:09:00.10\00:09:03.71 your favorite shirt just got another hole. 00:09:03.74\00:09:06.74 It's sad, mommy died last year 00:09:06.78\00:09:08.71 but what makes you feel even worse 00:09:08.74\00:09:11.21 is that your dad chose not to be your dad anymore. 00:09:11.25\00:09:15.15 Hey, I'm Shawn Boonstra, 00:09:15.18\00:09:16.62 Honorary Ambassador for Child Impact International, 00:09:16.65\00:09:19.89 an organization that is a supportive ministry 00:09:19.92\00:09:22.32 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:09:22.36\00:09:24.43 Something like 15 to 25 million little girls and boys in India 00:09:24.46\00:09:28.76 share similar stories to the one I just told you. 00:09:28.80\00:09:31.87 Many are orphaned at a young age 00:09:31.90\00:09:33.60 with little food to eat and no hope. 00:09:33.64\00:09:36.87 Child Impact serves to bridge the gap 00:09:36.91\00:09:38.74 between hardship and education. 00:09:38.77\00:09:42.24 It's a unique ministry that serves children in poverty 00:09:42.28\00:09:45.31 in Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. 00:09:45.35\00:09:50.29 Over three and a half thousand children 00:09:50.32\00:09:53.15 are provided an Adventist education 00:09:53.19\00:09:55.36 and lives are changed 00:09:55.39\00:09:56.83 through the numerous development projects. 00:09:56.86\00:09:59.53 Working in these countries, 00:09:59.56\00:10:01.40 Child Impact has come face to face with issues 00:10:01.43\00:10:04.07 like child slavery, poor or no education, 00:10:04.10\00:10:07.94 child trafficking, abandoned babies, 00:10:07.97\00:10:11.07 lack of clean water, and a high number of orphans. 00:10:11.11\00:10:15.01 This list is not short on challenges, 00:10:15.04\00:10:18.05 yet the needs are being met. 00:10:18.08\00:10:20.25 You know, my family sponsors Sheila, 00:10:20.28\00:10:22.28 a young lady at the Sunrise Orphanage in India. 00:10:22.32\00:10:25.45 For the past couple of years, I'm proud of how my family 00:10:25.49\00:10:28.79 has been able to impact her life for the better. 00:10:28.82\00:10:32.16 Word has it, she just started college. 00:10:32.19\00:10:35.96 What I've come to understand 00:10:36.00\00:10:37.90 is that the children Child Impact supports 00:10:37.93\00:10:41.17 are more than just names, or faces on a screen, 00:10:41.20\00:10:43.97 or a flyer, 00:10:44.01\00:10:45.47 they're people with a story, 00:10:45.51\00:10:48.21 a story whose ending has not been written, 00:10:48.24\00:10:51.35 instead another chapter is being composed. 00:10:51.38\00:10:55.18 It reminds me of something that Jesus once said, 00:10:55.22\00:10:57.82 "Whatever you do 00:10:57.85\00:10:59.19 for the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, 00:10:59.22\00:11:01.79 you do for Me." 00:11:01.82\00:11:04.13 Join me and others like me throughout the world 00:11:04.16\00:11:07.73 who are sponsoring a child monthly 00:11:07.76\00:11:09.93 to provide like Jesus did, to support like Jesus did, 00:11:09.96\00:11:14.20 to love like Jesus did. 00:11:14.24\00:11:16.74 You too can make a lifelong impact on the life of someone 00:11:16.77\00:11:20.18 who is waiting for you to say yes. 00:11:20.21\00:11:22.84 Yes, today you will consider sponsorship 00:11:22.88\00:11:25.81 right now with Child Impact or one of our other projects. 00:11:25.85\00:11:29.42 Yes, to give hope to a precious child today. 00:11:29.45\00:11:33.15 Sponsoring children in activities 00:11:42.50\00:11:46.90 like these mission schools 00:11:46.94\00:11:48.84 and opportunities is a tremendous way 00:11:48.87\00:11:52.31 to help form the character of young people 00:11:52.34\00:11:56.24 as they look to the future. 00:11:56.28\00:11:57.71 They will never forget 00:11:57.75\00:11:59.71 their association in a Christian environment. 00:11:59.75\00:12:02.75 And by God's grace, 00:12:02.78\00:12:04.12 many of them will become 00:12:04.15\00:12:05.79 members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. 00:12:05.82\00:12:08.46 It is absolutely a powerful witness 00:12:08.49\00:12:11.89 to sponsor a child in Child Impact 00:12:11.93\00:12:15.36 and so many other organizations 00:12:15.40\00:12:18.37 that help young people to find Jesus. 00:12:18.40\00:12:22.84 Sponsoring a child not only has short-term effects 00:12:22.87\00:12:27.44 but it has a long-term effect. 00:12:27.48\00:12:30.38 Sponsoring a child is investing 00:12:30.41\00:12:32.61 in the character of a young person for eternity. 00:12:32.65\00:12:36.55 We're taping this right here in Myanmar, 00:12:36.58\00:12:39.89 at the Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary, 00:12:39.92\00:12:43.29 and about one-third of the students 00:12:43.32\00:12:45.89 or one quarter of the students 00:12:45.93\00:12:47.96 are being sponsored by Child Impact. 00:12:48.00\00:12:51.00 People who become workers in God's church, 00:12:51.03\00:12:54.80 people who make an impact in the community 00:12:54.84\00:12:57.94 have been people who have been sponsored. 00:12:57.97\00:13:00.88 Your sponsorship is absolutely an investment 00:13:00.91\00:13:04.98 in the future of the church. 00:13:05.01\00:13:06.35
