Children are our future. 00:00:21.92\00:00:24.62 They're full of dreams and desires. 00:00:24.65\00:00:27.36 But in a world of unspeakable despair 00:00:27.39\00:00:29.59 these ignited minds live in poverty and privation, 00:00:29.62\00:00:32.56 helpless, and hopeless. 00:00:32.59\00:00:34.36 Child Impact International is an organization giving hope. 00:00:37.90\00:00:41.70 It is an organization fostering permanent positive change 00:00:41.74\00:00:45.07 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:45.11\00:00:47.14 and those who are in need. 00:00:47.18\00:00:49.68 Serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, 00:00:49.71\00:00:54.38 Myanmar, and beyond. 00:00:54.42\00:00:56.89 For the last 15 years, 00:00:56.92\00:00:58.82 Child Impact has invested in the futures of children, 00:00:58.85\00:01:01.82 and their investment has proven infinite returns, 00:01:01.86\00:01:04.86 driven by their dedication to helping those 00:01:04.89\00:01:07.30 who have the least. 00:01:07.33\00:01:08.93 Child Impact is an organization focused 00:01:08.96\00:01:11.17 on the welfare of children. 00:01:11.20\00:01:13.34 Implementing diverse development projects 00:01:13.37\00:01:15.77 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:01:15.80\00:01:18.91 Their outreach expands from child rescue operations 00:01:18.94\00:01:21.81 to providing an education for orphans, deaf, 00:01:21.84\00:01:24.78 and the blind children, 00:01:24.81\00:01:26.85 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:26.88\00:01:30.29 But above all, 00:01:30.32\00:01:31.65 Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:01:31.69\00:01:34.59 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:34.62\00:01:39.03 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:39.06\00:01:42.00 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:46.84\00:01:48.97 Welcome to Myanmar. 00:02:15.40\00:02:17.33 Child Impact International has been sponsoring 00:02:17.37\00:02:19.93 over 600 children in Adventist schools 00:02:19.97\00:02:22.80 all across the Southeast Asian nation. 00:02:22.84\00:02:24.74 Over 95% of the population here in Myanmar practices Buddhism. 00:02:28.48\00:02:32.65 In fact, Myanmar is one of the most religious 00:02:32.68\00:02:35.15 Buddhist countries in the world. 00:02:35.18\00:02:37.32 The Seventh-day Adventist mission 00:02:37.35\00:02:39.09 was established here 115 years ago 00:02:39.12\00:02:41.76 and Adventist education has played a central role 00:02:41.79\00:02:44.53 in spreading the gospel in Myanmar. 00:02:44.56\00:02:49.13 The challenge is that a decent education 00:02:49.16\00:02:51.30 is expensive. 00:02:51.33\00:02:52.67 Most people can't afford it. 00:02:52.70\00:02:54.30 This is where an organization, like Child Impact, 00:02:54.34\00:02:56.71 has such a great impact. 00:02:56.74\00:02:58.41 They're concerned and committed 00:02:58.44\00:03:00.08 to the welfare of children in need here. 00:03:00.11\00:03:03.98 Today, we join Jim Rennie 00:03:04.01\00:03:05.85 on a visit to Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary 00:03:05.88\00:03:08.85 and see what Child Impact is doing to bring hope, 00:03:08.88\00:03:11.65 salvation, and a future to needy children in Myanmar. 00:03:11.69\00:03:15.22 Well, I'm back here in Myanmar 00:03:27.07\00:03:28.64 and I've just had a four to five hour drive here 00:03:28.67\00:03:31.44 to the seminary. 00:03:31.47\00:03:32.81 And on this trip, we really want to meet 00:03:32.84\00:03:34.48 some of the students 00:03:34.51\00:03:35.98 that you have sponsored and see the difference 00:03:36.01\00:03:38.65 that we're making in their lives. 00:03:38.68\00:03:40.58 Come and join me on this trip as we meet these students 00:03:40.62\00:03:43.92 and see the impact on their lives 00:03:43.95\00:03:46.19 which is very real. 00:03:46.22\00:03:47.56 Come with me. 00:03:47.59\00:03:48.92 Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary 00:03:55.66\00:03:58.03 or MUAS as it is commonly known 00:03:58.07\00:04:00.80 is the only Adventist institution 00:04:00.84\00:04:02.70 of higher learning in Myanmar, 00:04:02.74\00:04:04.31 and it plays a very important role 00:04:04.34\00:04:06.04 in developing young minds 00:04:06.07\00:04:07.48 who are the future torchbearers of the church. 00:04:07.51\00:04:10.31 Presently, there are 600 students 00:04:10.35\00:04:12.05 at the college taking religion, education, 00:04:12.08\00:04:14.52 and business as their fields of study. 00:04:14.55\00:04:16.79 Most of them come from financially 00:04:16.82\00:04:18.62 difficult backgrounds, 00:04:18.65\00:04:19.99 and 160 students are sponsored by Child Impact. 00:04:20.02\00:04:24.83 These young people come from all over Myanmar 00:04:24.86\00:04:27.50 and Child Impact is making it possible 00:04:27.53\00:04:29.60 for them to be able to learn 00:04:29.63\00:04:30.97 and acquire skills needed for employment. 00:04:31.00\00:04:34.14 I'm here at Myanmar Adventist College 00:04:34.17\00:04:36.24 with our group of over 160 students 00:04:36.27\00:04:39.71 that are sponsored by Child Impact International. 00:04:39.74\00:04:43.51 And just meeting with them and just talking with them, 00:04:43.55\00:04:46.18 it's so exciting to see the real difference 00:04:46.21\00:04:49.05 that sponsorship is making in their lives. 00:04:49.08\00:04:51.85 Standing behind me of the future doctors, 00:04:51.89\00:04:54.62 the future dentists, the future nurses, 00:04:54.66\00:04:57.33 teachers and pastors, 00:04:57.36\00:04:59.19 and this will impact on their lives, 00:04:59.23\00:05:01.46 this will impact on their family's lives, 00:05:01.50\00:05:04.33 but most of important 00:05:04.37\00:05:05.90 have a big impact on the church in Myanmar. 00:05:05.93\00:05:08.67 Just looking at their faces, you can see the difference 00:05:08.70\00:05:11.84 that sponsorship is making, 00:05:11.87\00:05:13.74 not only in the lives of their children 00:05:13.78\00:05:16.18 but of their families, their community, 00:05:16.21\00:05:18.31 and the church 00:05:18.35\00:05:19.68 just shows the success of sponsorship. 00:05:19.71\00:05:23.95 For us in our union 00:05:23.99\00:05:26.05 the Child Impact International sponsorship is very important 00:05:26.09\00:05:32.03 because it is among the many sponsorship programs. 00:05:32.06\00:05:36.56 It is the big guest. 00:05:36.60\00:05:38.73 It's sponsored more than 00:05:38.77\00:05:42.20 600 students in our union. 00:05:42.24\00:05:46.21 We have more need 00:05:46.24\00:05:50.28 for the sponsorship. 00:05:50.31\00:05:54.62 The Child Impact International can sponsor more students, 00:05:54.65\00:06:00.39 more students can learn and more students can be, 00:06:00.42\00:06:05.89 what to say, in one or other way, 00:06:05.93\00:06:10.33 they can help the child 00:06:10.37\00:06:11.70 when they finish their education. 00:06:11.73\00:06:13.07 Education is vital in this country. 00:06:20.44\00:06:22.74 It is important education is subsidized 00:06:22.78\00:06:25.15 so that we can create the environment 00:06:25.18\00:06:26.72 in which children have an opportunity to learn 00:06:26.75\00:06:28.98 and achieve their dreams. 00:06:29.02\00:06:30.39 And the Adventist school system 00:06:30.42\00:06:32.15 not only helps children grow mentally and socially, 00:06:32.19\00:06:35.16 but they also have an opportunity 00:06:35.19\00:06:36.73 to grow spiritually. 00:06:36.76\00:06:38.76 Well, as we all know, 00:06:38.79\00:06:40.56 Seventh-day Adventist education 00:06:40.60\00:06:42.56 was prepared and launched 00:06:42.60\00:06:45.63 through very intensive information 00:06:45.67\00:06:49.40 that God gave through Ellen White 00:06:49.44\00:06:51.71 as to how Seventh-day Adventist education 00:06:51.74\00:06:54.84 ought to be different from other places. 00:06:54.88\00:06:57.15 It was to reach the head, the hand, and the heart. 00:06:57.18\00:07:02.12 It was to help people following in Christ's ministry, 00:07:02.15\00:07:05.55 helping children, young people, physically, mentally, socially, 00:07:05.59\00:07:09.29 and spiritually, helping them to become a whole person 00:07:09.32\00:07:13.36 so they can be sent from those schools 00:07:13.40\00:07:16.26 to be wonderful testimonies for the Lord. 00:07:16.30\00:07:19.13 Seventh-day Adventist education is unique and it is powerful 00:07:19.17\00:07:23.47 because it's from heaven. 00:07:23.51\00:07:26.94 To move forward with its focus in Myanmar, 00:07:26.98\00:07:29.31 Child Impact has established the Educate Myanmar fund. 00:07:29.34\00:07:32.81 The purpose of this fund is to help sponsor children 00:07:32.85\00:07:35.38 in Adventist mission schools here in Myanmar 00:07:35.42\00:07:37.89 and help with resources 00:07:37.92\00:07:39.25 and other needs such as classrooms. 00:07:39.29\00:07:41.99 The college has many needs. 00:07:42.02\00:07:43.66 And Child Impact also addressed 00:07:43.69\00:07:45.43 another important issue of congestion 00:07:45.46\00:07:47.76 in the dorms and other infrastructural needs. 00:07:47.80\00:07:50.27 Currently, it is helping the college in finishing 00:07:50.30\00:07:52.43 the building of classrooms for theology students. 00:07:52.47\00:07:54.90 Conn, it's quite exciting to see 00:08:07.25\00:08:09.18 what is happening in this building. 00:08:09.22\00:08:10.55 Yes. 00:08:10.59\00:08:11.92 I'm here with Dr. Connally who is the president 00:08:11.95\00:08:14.02 of the Myanmar Adventist Union College. 00:08:14.06\00:08:17.23 And in talking with him, I can now see 00:08:17.26\00:08:19.63 how important that the theology 00:08:19.66\00:08:22.26 and religious training is 00:08:22.30\00:08:24.40 from the Myanmar Adventist Union College. 00:08:24.43\00:08:27.27 It's the only source of Bible workers 00:08:27.30\00:08:30.14 and pastors for the country of Myanmar. 00:08:30.17\00:08:33.48 And so Child Impact International 00:08:33.51\00:08:35.94 is real excited 00:08:35.98\00:08:37.31 that with the help of our sponsors, 00:08:37.35\00:08:39.45 we can sponsor Bible students 00:08:39.48\00:08:41.92 and theology students but also, if possible, 00:08:41.95\00:08:45.72 we can help with the finishing 00:08:45.75\00:08:47.52 of this new theology department building. 00:08:47.56\00:08:51.09 So let's go in the dorm. 00:08:51.13\00:08:52.56 So how many boys you think there are in the college? 00:08:58.30\00:09:02.04 Only boys in the building. 00:09:02.07\00:09:05.97 The Educate Myanmar fund is fully committed 00:09:10.25\00:09:12.78 to helping Adventist schools in Myanmar. 00:09:12.81\00:09:15.15 But more importantly, it is committed to help 00:09:15.18\00:09:17.82 and give young boys and girls, from difficult backgrounds, 00:09:17.85\00:09:20.76 an opportunity to receive an education 00:09:20.79\00:09:23.26 through sponsorship. 00:09:23.29\00:09:25.73 I'm here in the boy's dormitory at Myanmar Adventist Seminary. 00:09:25.76\00:09:30.33 It's a large room 00:09:30.37\00:09:31.70 with over 20 boys sleeping on the floor 00:09:31.73\00:09:34.40 which to us is a little strange but in fact, culturally, 00:09:34.44\00:09:38.01 this is how they probably live at home, 00:09:38.04\00:09:40.81 in their village, house, and they sleep on the floor. 00:09:40.84\00:09:44.91 I'm here with Sanga who is an inspiring story 00:09:44.95\00:09:48.88 from the sponsorship. 00:09:48.92\00:09:50.35 He comes from a very large family 00:09:50.39\00:09:52.69 of seven siblings 00:09:52.72\00:09:54.36 and he is the only one getting an education. 00:09:54.39\00:09:58.09 His father is a farmer, a poor farmer 00:09:58.13\00:10:01.03 and the rest are at home working in the field. 00:10:01.06\00:10:04.20 Sanga at an early age was given the chance to go 00:10:04.23\00:10:07.64 to an Adventist school 00:10:07.67\00:10:09.20 and he's been through the high school, 00:10:09.24\00:10:12.14 and now he's at the seminary 00:10:12.17\00:10:13.98 doing the religious studies and theology course. 00:10:14.01\00:10:17.81 And we're real proud of his achievements today. 00:10:17.85\00:10:21.08 Just to show the pressure for finance 00:10:21.12\00:10:24.05 and how poor his family is, in those three years, 00:10:24.09\00:10:27.59 Sanga's only been home twice 00:10:27.62\00:10:30.53 because he has to do a job on the holidays, 00:10:30.56\00:10:33.80 he has to work just to cover the rest of his overhead costs 00:10:33.83\00:10:38.63 and getting through college, and he's really got a dream. 00:10:38.67\00:10:42.97 And, Sanga, tell us about your dream, 00:10:43.00\00:10:45.44 what do you want to achieve? 00:10:45.47\00:10:47.08 I want to be a good pastor, 00:10:50.18\00:10:52.11 so I'm taking here religion major. 00:10:52.15\00:10:55.82 Right, so Sanga wants to go on to do his MA in theology, 00:10:55.85\00:11:00.66 and he wants to be a pastor, 00:11:00.69\00:11:02.62 and he wants to be a successful pastor. 00:11:02.66\00:11:05.26 And once again, that's really exciting 00:11:05.29\00:11:07.43 and we want to support Sanga as he goes ahead. 00:11:07.46\00:11:11.00 And it really shows you how sponsorship, 00:11:11.03\00:11:13.64 through the different facets of education, 00:11:13.67\00:11:16.60 is now turning this young man into a real success story 00:11:16.64\00:11:21.71 and we're so proud of what he has achieved. 00:11:21.74\00:11:25.61 Sanga is one such story of how sponsorship 00:11:25.65\00:11:29.75 is having an impact on the lives of these students 00:11:29.78\00:11:33.22 but also on their families and their communities. 00:11:33.25\00:11:36.26 And as I travel around, 00:11:36.29\00:11:37.99 it's just so exciting to be able 00:11:38.03\00:11:40.10 to meet these students. 00:11:40.13\00:11:41.73 And shortly, I'll introduce you to two young ladies. 00:11:41.76\00:11:45.20 One, who is doing a business major 00:11:45.23\00:11:47.64 and wants to have her own business, 00:11:47.67\00:11:49.77 and it just shows the impact that sponsorship 00:11:49.80\00:11:53.07 is having beyond the education. 00:11:53.11\00:11:55.54 It's giving their families hope, 00:11:55.58\00:11:57.31 it's giving their communities hope, 00:11:57.35\00:11:59.48 and it's having an impact totally on these 00:11:59.51\00:12:02.45 Adventist mission schools and seminaries. 00:12:02.48\00:12:05.25 I'm so proud of the work that I see sponsorship is doing 00:12:05.29\00:12:09.72 and I want to thank you for your support. 00:12:09.76\00:12:12.09 A couple of years ago, 00:12:15.96\00:12:17.30 my daughters and I had a wonderful opportunity 00:12:17.33\00:12:19.93 to travel to India. 00:12:19.97\00:12:21.40 And while we were there, 00:12:21.44\00:12:22.77 we met yet another part of our family 00:12:22.80\00:12:24.84 and that's our sponsored daughter, Sheila. 00:12:24.87\00:12:27.48 We had the privilege of sponsoring Sheila 00:12:27.51\00:12:30.01 through Child Impact International 00:12:30.05\00:12:32.38 for more than three years now. 00:12:32.41\00:12:34.48 And, you know, while we were there, 00:12:34.52\00:12:36.45 she shared with us that her dream 00:12:36.48\00:12:38.82 was to become a nurse. 00:12:38.85\00:12:40.96 Now, what a wonderful privilege it is for us, 00:12:40.99\00:12:43.73 now as a family, to know 00:12:43.76\00:12:46.16 that she is fulfilling that dream. 00:12:46.19\00:12:48.96 Sheila is now studying to be a nurse. 00:12:49.00\00:12:51.40 She's in college and we could not be happier for her. 00:12:51.43\00:12:55.17 It's been wonderful to be part of that journey with her. 00:12:55.20\00:12:58.61 And, you know, sponsoring a child through Child Impact, 00:12:58.64\00:13:02.04 it's made an incredible difference for our family. 00:13:02.08\00:13:05.05 And I know that for you, sponsoring a child 00:13:05.08\00:13:07.32 can make a difference for you too. 00:13:07.35\00:13:09.32 And most importantly, it can make the difference 00:13:09.35\00:13:11.82 in a life of a child every day. 00:13:11.85\00:13:13.99 I'm Jim Rennie, 00:13:24.13\00:13:25.47 CEO of Child Impact International. 00:13:25.50\00:13:28.07 I've just returned from the country of Bangladesh. 00:13:28.10\00:13:31.27 Bangladesh is located north east of India. 00:13:31.31\00:13:34.64 Bangladesh has a population of 163 million 00:13:34.68\00:13:38.61 and is actually one of the most densely 00:13:38.65\00:13:40.98 populated countries in the world. 00:13:41.02\00:13:43.82 For instance, Los Angeles has 2,700 people 00:13:43.85\00:13:49.19 per square kilometer 00:13:49.22\00:13:51.29 but the capital Dhaka has 23,900 people 00:13:51.33\00:13:57.70 per square kilometer. 00:13:57.73\00:13:59.17 The Adventist church only has about 30,000 members 00:13:59.20\00:14:02.84 but the church school system has about 10,000 children 00:14:02.87\00:14:07.28 in small village schools 00:14:07.31\00:14:09.14 and also larger boarding schools. 00:14:09.18\00:14:11.98 The main religion is Islam and the education 00:14:12.01\00:14:15.15 is the key outreach for the church. 00:14:15.18\00:14:17.79 Bangladesh is low-lying land on a huge area of river delta. 00:14:17.82\00:14:22.62 Late last year, Bangladesh suffered 00:14:22.66\00:14:25.09 the worst flooding in its history 00:14:25.13\00:14:27.66 with over eight million people displaced or affected. 00:14:27.70\00:14:31.47 Thousands died in the floods. 00:14:31.50\00:14:34.07 Unfortunately, farming was devastated by the flooding 00:14:34.10\00:14:37.57 which caused food prices to skyrocket in price 00:14:37.61\00:14:41.04 and created food shortages. 00:14:41.08\00:14:43.58 In most of the country, prices still remain high. 00:14:43.61\00:14:47.52 This has put a huge financial strain 00:14:47.55\00:14:49.65 on our mission school finances. 00:14:49.68\00:14:52.29 Children are not getting sufficient nutrition 00:14:52.32\00:14:54.92 and the mission schools 00:14:54.96\00:14:56.29 are really struggling financially. 00:14:56.32\00:14:58.83 As I visited the schools, they asked for help. 00:14:58.86\00:15:02.10 I also visited the villages where the children 00:15:02.13\00:15:05.07 live in the poor areas 00:15:05.10\00:15:06.80 and they are really struggling also. 00:15:06.84\00:15:09.40 As I saw the reality of what was happening, 00:15:09.44\00:15:11.97 I realized we just had to help. 00:15:12.01\00:15:14.51 We don't normally do food appeals 00:15:14.54\00:15:16.78 but we have no option but to help these children 00:15:16.81\00:15:19.81 and also the mission schools. 00:15:19.85\00:15:22.08 We are asking you to help us purchase 5,000 bags of rice 00:15:22.12\00:15:26.86 for $35 a bag. 00:15:26.89\00:15:28.96 A bag is about a 110 pound and feeds about a 105 meals. 00:15:28.99\00:15:34.60 Each bag you can donate 00:15:34.63\00:15:36.67 will ensure the children are fed, 00:15:36.70\00:15:38.40 but will also save the school's valuable funds. 00:15:38.43\00:15:42.60 You can donate 1 bag, 10 bags, a 100 bags, 00:15:42.64\00:15:46.17 whatever you can share. 00:15:46.21\00:15:48.01 Each bag will impact on hundreds 00:15:48.04\00:15:50.71 of children's nutrition and will give urgent 00:15:50.75\00:15:53.92 financial relief to those struggling mission schools, 00:15:53.95\00:15:57.62 some who are close to closing. 00:15:57.65\00:15:59.85 It's urgent, please help. 00:15:59.89\00:16:02.22 Just one bag for $35 00:16:02.26\00:16:04.93 or maybe 5 or 10 bags, 50 bags, 00:16:04.96\00:16:08.53 whatever you can help with, please help these kids. 00:16:08.56\00:16:11.50 Wonderful, so wonderful 00:16:26.61\00:16:30.82 Is your unfailing love 00:16:30.85\00:16:35.19 Your cross has spoken mercy over me 00:16:35.22\00:16:38.29 In mission fields like Myanmar, 00:16:38.33\00:16:40.13 our Adventist schools are a wonderful place 00:16:40.16\00:16:42.50 for us to introduce Jesus 00:16:42.53\00:16:43.87 to the children at a very early age. 00:16:43.90\00:16:46.03 But a good Christian education is not easy to get, 00:16:46.07\00:16:48.67 particularly, in rural areas 00:16:48.70\00:16:50.54 where obtaining a good education 00:16:50.57\00:16:52.27 is not within reach of a majority 00:16:52.31\00:16:54.08 of Adventist families. 00:16:54.11\00:16:56.54 Poverty is a vicious cycle and in Myanmar, 00:16:56.58\00:16:59.35 it is very visible. 00:16:59.38\00:17:00.88 The great thing about education 00:17:00.92\00:17:02.42 is that it breaks that cycle of poverty. 00:17:02.45\00:17:04.79 This is why sponsorship, in a country like Myanmar, 00:17:04.82\00:17:07.42 is very significant for not only the child 00:17:07.46\00:17:10.43 but also for their families. 00:17:10.46\00:17:11.89 Well, I'm right here in a village that's very close 00:17:16.26\00:17:18.83 to the seminary and college that we've been visiting. 00:17:18.87\00:17:22.80 And I guess it's here that we see the reality 00:17:22.84\00:17:25.24 of where these families come from, 00:17:25.27\00:17:27.21 where the students come from, 00:17:27.24\00:17:29.34 and I guess it really emphasizes 00:17:29.38\00:17:32.08 the difference that sponsorship is making in the lives 00:17:32.11\00:17:35.68 of these students, these children. 00:17:35.72\00:17:37.59 They simply wouldn't have had a chance. 00:17:37.62\00:17:40.89 And as you can see, even now, 00:17:40.92\00:17:42.52 there's children here that aren't at school. 00:17:42.56\00:17:46.13 It's very touching to visit these places, 00:17:46.16\00:17:49.06 and yet their parents are so proud 00:17:49.10\00:17:51.00 and so thankful that their students 00:17:51.03\00:17:53.17 are able to get an education through your giving 00:17:53.20\00:17:56.74 and your support of these special children. 00:17:56.77\00:18:01.84 There are many young people 00:18:01.88\00:18:05.15 that just do not have the opportunity 00:18:05.18\00:18:07.58 but they have a lot of potential 00:18:07.62\00:18:09.58 to be discovered and developed. 00:18:09.62\00:18:13.19 For me, that without somebody helping me, 00:18:13.22\00:18:15.99 like my aunt provided me opportunity to study, 00:18:16.02\00:18:19.46 I will not be having this opportunity 00:18:19.49\00:18:21.20 serving the church. 00:18:21.23\00:18:23.03 Likewise, there are many young people 00:18:23.06\00:18:24.77 that they has the potential. 00:18:24.80\00:18:26.43 And then I'm so thankful to God, 00:18:26.47\00:18:28.30 and to each of our leaders, 00:18:28.34\00:18:30.67 and the donor of the Child Impact. 00:18:30.71\00:18:33.21 And I'm really thankful to God for what we are doing, 00:18:33.24\00:18:37.41 the passion and the mission 00:18:37.45\00:18:38.95 that you have for this young people, 00:18:38.98\00:18:41.18 and then the reward that you will be getting 00:18:41.22\00:18:44.05 that is in the heaven. 00:18:44.09\00:18:45.55 You will never realize 00:18:45.59\00:18:47.89 the support that you have given, 00:18:47.92\00:18:49.56 opportunity that you have given to the young people 00:18:49.59\00:18:53.13 that will really contribute to the work of the church, 00:18:53.16\00:18:56.20 in the community life and in the country like 00:18:56.23\00:18:58.93 in Myanmar and Bangladesh. 00:18:58.97\00:19:01.57 Sponsoring a child not only has short-term effects 00:19:01.60\00:19:06.14 but it has a long-term effect. 00:19:06.17\00:19:09.08 Sponsoring a child is investing 00:19:09.11\00:19:11.25 in the character of a young person for eternity. 00:19:11.28\00:19:15.05 We're taping this right here in Myanmar, 00:19:15.08\00:19:18.45 at the Myanmar Union Adventist Seminary, 00:19:18.49\00:19:21.92 and about one-third of the students 00:19:21.96\00:19:24.63 or one quarter of the students 00:19:24.66\00:19:26.59 are being sponsored by Child Impact. 00:19:26.63\00:19:29.53 People who become workers in God's church, 00:19:29.56\00:19:33.54 people who make an impact in the community 00:19:33.57\00:19:36.57 have been people who have been sponsored. 00:19:36.60\00:19:39.47 Your sponsorship is, absolutely, an investment 00:19:39.51\00:19:43.68 in the future of the church. 00:19:43.71\00:19:45.05 Mu Hsan Hgee or Mumu, as she likes to be called, 00:20:09.24\00:20:12.27 is a final year business student at MUAS. 00:20:12.31\00:20:15.88 Her mother passed away when she and her siblings 00:20:15.91\00:20:17.98 were very young. 00:20:18.01\00:20:19.45 Her father remarried but found it hard 00:20:19.48\00:20:21.28 to care for the children. 00:20:21.32\00:20:22.85 He came to know about the Adventist school, 00:20:22.88\00:20:24.99 which is right across the street from the college, 00:20:25.02\00:20:27.16 through a church pastor. 00:20:27.19\00:20:28.72 Mumu and all her younger siblings 00:20:28.76\00:20:30.46 are now sponsored by Child Impact. 00:20:30.49\00:20:33.96 Well, just before the break I told you that 00:20:34.00\00:20:36.16 we would be sharing the stories 00:20:36.20\00:20:37.87 of two young ladies here in Myanmar. 00:20:37.90\00:20:40.87 And I'm just so excited today to be with Mumu, 00:20:40.90\00:20:44.07 and she is doing business studies 00:20:44.11\00:20:47.34 here at the seminary and she's in her last year. 00:20:47.38\00:20:52.78 And she comes 00:20:52.81\00:20:54.35 from a very tough family situation 00:20:54.38\00:20:57.69 where she has five siblings. 00:20:57.72\00:21:00.46 Sadly, her mother passed away and her father has remarried. 00:21:00.49\00:21:05.56 And she is just so excited that she has been able 00:21:05.59\00:21:09.80 to be a Child Impact sponsored child. 00:21:09.83\00:21:12.80 And her dream is that she will, 00:21:12.83\00:21:15.94 when she completes her studies this year, 00:21:15.97\00:21:18.61 get some work experience in a business 00:21:18.64\00:21:21.61 or a NGO and then she wants to start her own business. 00:21:21.64\00:21:26.65 She really feels 00:21:26.68\00:21:28.15 that she can have her own business. 00:21:28.18\00:21:30.89 So once she has completed the course and then once 00:21:30.92\00:21:33.76 she has had some work experience, 00:21:33.79\00:21:37.03 she wants to start her own business. 00:21:37.06\00:21:39.49 Now she's told me that she likes cooking 00:21:39.53\00:21:43.06 and playing the piano, 00:21:43.10\00:21:44.60 so maybe she'll end up in a cooking business 00:21:44.63\00:21:46.97 or a food business, I don't know. 00:21:47.00\00:21:49.57 But this is just one of the ways 00:21:49.60\00:21:52.24 that sponsorship is having an impact. 00:21:52.27\00:21:55.11 And here it is, this is not teaching, 00:21:55.14\00:21:57.58 this is not ministry, 00:21:57.61\00:21:59.05 this is in the business studies area 00:21:59.08\00:22:01.48 and it's just so exciting to see a young lady 00:22:01.52\00:22:04.85 that has taken up this direction with her career. 00:22:04.89\00:22:08.16 And, Mumu, we really wish you well 00:22:08.19\00:22:10.79 in your business studies 00:22:10.83\00:22:12.53 and we wish you well in finding a job 00:22:12.56\00:22:16.13 but then we know that you, one day, 00:22:16.16\00:22:18.23 will be a very successful business lady 00:22:18.27\00:22:21.74 with your own business. 00:22:21.77\00:22:23.30 And it just shows you the different directions 00:22:23.34\00:22:26.41 that sponsorship can lead to, and we're so proud of Mumu 00:22:26.44\00:22:30.78 and what she has achieved so far. 00:22:30.81\00:22:32.81 Mumu shares her room with many other 00:22:36.05\00:22:37.79 Child Impact sponsored girls, like her friend Papa. 00:22:37.82\00:22:41.46 Like the boy's dorm, 00:22:41.49\00:22:42.82 the girl's dorm is filled to capacity. 00:22:42.86\00:22:44.79 Visiting the girl's dorm, it is very evident. 00:22:44.83\00:22:47.16 The boarding facilities lack 00:22:47.20\00:22:48.53 the conducive living environment. 00:22:48.56\00:22:50.47 But students like Papa consider living 00:22:50.50\00:22:52.47 and studying here a privilege and want to make the best 00:22:52.50\00:22:55.30 out of this given privilege. 00:22:55.34\00:22:56.67 Papa, your sponsors are really happy. 00:23:01.64\00:23:05.88 Well, I'm here in the library 00:23:07.55\00:23:08.88 at Myanmar Adventist Union Seminary 00:23:08.92\00:23:12.12 and I'm really excited to be with Papa today. 00:23:12.15\00:23:15.46 Papa is in her final year of education studies 00:23:15.49\00:23:19.56 to become a teacher. 00:23:19.59\00:23:21.16 And Papa has been a Child Impact sponsored 00:23:21.20\00:23:24.13 all the way through her education 00:23:24.17\00:23:28.04 up until where she is now. 00:23:28.07\00:23:30.24 Now Papa comes from Central Myanmar 00:23:30.27\00:23:33.78 which is obviously north of here 00:23:33.81\00:23:35.94 and comes from a very poor, large family 00:23:35.98\00:23:39.11 and, in fact, she has 11 siblings. 00:23:39.15\00:23:41.92 Now sadly, her father passed away 00:23:41.95\00:23:44.59 and now her mother struggles to bring this family up. 00:23:44.62\00:23:48.29 But the exciting thing is that sponsorship has given Papa 00:23:48.32\00:23:52.56 and her family an opportunity for her to have a career. 00:23:52.59\00:23:57.70 Papa, tell me about what you would like to do 00:23:57.73\00:24:00.97 when you leave this seminary? 00:24:01.00\00:24:04.51 After I finish, I want to be a teacher 00:24:04.54\00:24:07.71 at Mountain View Academy. 00:24:07.74\00:24:09.44 Right, so Papa wants to be a teacher 00:24:09.48\00:24:13.18 at the Mountain View Academy, 00:24:13.21\00:24:15.42 which is a key school for the church located 00:24:15.45\00:24:18.45 in the Central Myanmar near where she comes from. 00:24:18.49\00:24:22.39 And this is going to make a big difference in her life 00:24:22.42\00:24:26.23 and in the lives of other children. 00:24:26.26\00:24:28.80 And I just want to say to you sponsors 00:24:28.83\00:24:30.97 that if you look Papa in the face, 00:24:31.00\00:24:33.67 if you can see the difference in her life, 00:24:33.70\00:24:35.97 her family are a Buddhist family 00:24:36.00\00:24:38.17 and she has been introduced to Jesus 00:24:38.21\00:24:40.71 and she has accepted Jesus as her savior. 00:24:40.74\00:24:45.15 And also, you can see the inspiration 00:24:45.18\00:24:49.28 that this family has, the inspiration 00:24:49.32\00:24:51.69 that she has to be a teacher 00:24:51.72\00:24:54.26 and make a difference in the lives of children. 00:24:54.29\00:24:57.13 And this is what sponsorship is about, 00:24:57.16\00:24:59.49 it's giving the families hope 00:24:59.53\00:25:01.30 but it's inspiring her to be a teacher 00:25:01.33\00:25:04.40 and to impact in the lives of other children. 00:25:04.43\00:25:07.40 Talking to the children at the college, 00:25:10.97\00:25:12.91 Jim learned the role Child Impact 00:25:12.94\00:25:15.14 and more importantly, 00:25:15.18\00:25:16.51 individual sponsors are playing in the lives 00:25:16.54\00:25:19.15 of these students that come 00:25:19.18\00:25:20.52 from such impoverished backgrounds. 00:25:20.55\00:25:23.65 Child Impact is having a very strong impact 00:25:23.69\00:25:28.12 on many of the students. 00:25:28.16\00:25:29.69 It's an amazing opportunity in these mission schools 00:25:29.72\00:25:33.90 to touch the lives of young people, 00:25:33.93\00:25:37.03 not just for their professional lives 00:25:37.07\00:25:39.87 in the future but eternally. 00:25:39.90\00:25:43.10 Child Impact is an organization that wants to make 00:25:43.14\00:25:45.94 a significant contribution in the lives of needy children. 00:25:45.97\00:25:49.94 Today, Child Impact is making it possible 00:25:49.98\00:25:52.68 to give them that opportunity 00:25:52.71\00:25:54.52 to not just receive an education 00:25:54.55\00:25:56.58 but, as Pastor Wilson said, 00:25:56.62\00:25:58.75 an opportunity for eternal life. 00:25:58.79\00:26:02.39 Well, as you've seen in meeting these three young students, 00:26:02.42\00:26:05.63 you've actually got to see the impact 00:26:05.66\00:26:07.90 that you are having on their lives. 00:26:07.93\00:26:09.96 They come from very difficult family backgrounds 00:26:10.00\00:26:12.83 and you have given them the opportunity for education. 00:26:12.87\00:26:16.30 And you can also see the impact that will have on their future. 00:26:16.34\00:26:20.58 I just want to thank you 00:26:20.61\00:26:21.94 for the difference that you have made. 00:26:21.98\00:26:23.95
