Children are our future. 00:00:21.65\00:00:23.75 They're full of dreams and desires. 00:00:24.55\00:00:26.25 But in a world of unspeakable despair, 00:00:26.82\00:00:28.89 these ignited minds live in poverty and pervasion - 00:00:29.42\00:00:31.86 helpless and hopeless. 00:00:32.66\00:00:34.00 Child Impact International is an organization giving hope. 00:00:37.63\00:00:40.97 It is an organization fostering permanent positive change 00:00:41.67\00:00:44.54 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:00:44.84\00:00:46.47 and those who are in need, 00:00:47.11\00:00:48.44 serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, 00:00:49.61\00:00:53.62 Myanmar, and beyond. 00:00:54.05\00:00:55.42 For the last 15 years, child impact has invested 00:00:56.82\00:00:59.79 in the futures of children. And their investment has proven 00:01:00.09\00:01:02.86 infinite returns. Driven by their dedication to helping 00:01:03.09\00:01:06.53 those who have the least, child impact is an organization 00:01:06.76\00:01:10.30 focused on the welfare of children, 00:01:10.40\00:01:12.40 implementing diverse development projects, 00:01:13.37\00:01:15.10 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:01:15.40\00:01:17.47 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations to providing 00:01:18.61\00:01:21.98 an education for orphans, deaf, and the blind children, 00:01:22.21\00:01:25.38 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:26.18\00:01:29.35 But above all, Child Impact is an organization giving hope. 00:01:30.22\00:01:33.56 Giving hope to children. Giving hope to communities. 00:01:34.16\00:01:37.53 Giving hope to the ones who need it the most. 00:01:38.73\00:01:41.43 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:46.60\00:01:48.77 Situated amidst a lush, green paddy fields of Bobbili 00:02:11.93\00:02:14.86 in Andhra Pradesh, India, is an institution that is home 00:02:15.26\00:02:18.13 to some of the most disadvantaged children in the 00:02:18.33\00:02:20.40 society. 00:02:20.87\00:02:22.20 This is the school for the blind, run by Child Impact 00:02:24.11\00:02:26.57 International. 00:02:26.88\00:02:28.21 In a world where blindness is considered a curse, 00:02:29.24\00:02:31.11 and blind children are abandoned, 00:02:31.65\00:02:33.15 this campus is a refuge for children seeking care and 00:02:33.58\00:02:36.62 comfort. 00:02:36.85\00:02:38.19 There are various circumstances that have contributed to these 00:02:43.93\00:02:47.80 Some of them are victims of accidents. 00:02:48.50\00:02:49.90 Some due to vitamin deficiency factored by lack of nutritious 00:02:50.37\00:02:53.90 food; 00:02:54.04\00:02:55.37 but most of them were born blind. 00:02:55.40\00:02:56.74 Akhila Macha is a 7th grade student at the school. 00:03:05.81\00:03:08.08 She comes from a small tribal community not far from the 00:03:08.68\00:03:11.22 school in Bobbili. 00:03:11.45\00:03:12.79 Akhila is the second girl child in the family and was born 00:03:13.15\00:03:16.06 blind. 00:03:16.29\00:03:17.63 When Akhila was born blind, her father wouldn't accept her, 00:03:31.84\00:03:34.48 and wanted to abandon and leave her at the hospital. 00:03:35.24\00:03:37.91 In a patriarchal society, where a girl child is often considered 00:03:39.31\00:03:42.48 a burden, Akhila's father did not want another girl child. 00:03:42.72\00:03:46.52 That, too, a girl child with visual impairment. 00:03:47.12\00:03:50.03 There are people who are poor, who are really struggling to 00:03:51.59\00:03:55.83 look after the family and bring up the kids, 00:03:56.06\00:03:58.03 and then what happens if you're a girl in the family, 00:03:58.63\00:04:00.94 "Where are you sitting in the hierarchy?" 00:04:01.47\00:04:03.41 "How are you accepted in society?" 00:04:03.67\00:04:05.01 The boys get an education above the girls, so straightaway, 00:04:06.51\00:04:08.84 the girls really have an extra challenge here. 00:04:09.04\00:04:11.51 And imagine if a girl has a disability. 00:04:11.81\00:04:13.65 Where does that person sit? 00:04:14.38\00:04:15.75 So the need to provide special support for all children, 00:04:16.28\00:04:21.82 but especially for girls who have disabilities is an amazing 00:04:22.32\00:04:26.93 opportunity to help them, because there is very little 00:04:27.16\00:04:30.00 that can be done. 00:04:30.17\00:04:31.50 And, if they are in the family environment, they can't really 00:04:31.53\00:04:34.90 contribute. 00:04:35.10\00:04:36.44 They can't work and contribute to the family, 00:04:36.47\00:04:37.81 so they're a real burden to the family. 00:04:37.84\00:04:39.17 So we can transform not just the child, but the family as well, 00:04:39.47\00:04:43.95 by creating a whole new world this child and for the family. 00:04:44.45\00:04:47.82 Cultural issues are hard to understand. 00:04:52.32\00:04:54.09 It may even seem bizarre and cruel at times. 00:04:54.66\00:04:56.99 It's difficult to change people's perceptions that are 00:04:57.86\00:05:00.36 rooted deep. 00:05:00.50\00:05:01.83 While rural traditions and social economic difficulties 00:05:01.96\00:05:04.40 dictate life and rural India, their children pay the price. 00:05:04.80\00:05:08.14 In rural villages, where being handicapped is considered a 00:05:09.20\00:05:11.74 curse, blind children face an uncertain future. 00:05:11.97\00:05:14.88 For blind children like Akhila, the school for the blind in 00:05:18.81\00:05:21.58 Bobbili is a place of refuge. 00:05:21.78\00:05:24.02 Every year, we go to a campaign to find the... children. 00:05:36.43\00:05:41.24 That's how we found Akhila in our village. 00:05:41.57\00:05:43.91 And we saw her and she was so in ... condition. 00:05:44.87\00:05:47.44 And we talked to the parents. 00:05:48.91\00:05:50.68 Mother would not convince to send her to our school, 00:05:51.91\00:05:57.19 because she was afraid something would happen 00:05:57.49\00:06:00.26 or something would do for the child, 00:06:00.89\00:06:02.22 so she was not convinced for a year. 00:06:02.29\00:06:05.13 Again, we went the next year, and she sent some people 00:06:06.90\00:06:11.83 to check how the school is and what are the activities that are 00:06:12.33\00:06:16.77 going on. 00:06:16.94\00:06:18.27 And then later on, she was fully convinced and she felt happy 00:06:18.31\00:06:21.78 that this is the place where Akhila should go and study. 00:06:21.98\00:06:24.21 So that's how we picked her up from there to our school. 00:06:25.41\00:06:28.05 For all its traditions and practices, the fact remains 00:06:29.48\00:06:32.69 that all parents love their children and want the best for 00:06:32.85\00:06:35.66 them. 00:06:35.82\00:06:37.16 So someone like Akhila who comes from a tribal area, 00:06:37.19\00:06:40.46 the change for Akhila and her parents is huge. 00:06:40.50\00:06:45.60 Akhila would not ever had any chance of education without the 00:06:46.63\00:06:50.57 blind school that she goes to. 00:06:50.77\00:06:52.57 Her parents were very cautious in letting her go, 00:06:53.01\00:06:56.24 but when they know that she's getting an education, 00:06:56.91\00:06:59.81 they move from cautious and scared, not knowing what to do 00:07:00.22\00:07:04.35 with a blind child, to having hope - to being proud. 00:07:04.55\00:07:07.79 And so Akhila is an example of the change that is made by 00:07:08.42\00:07:12.89 taking a child from a community where there is no hope for them, 00:07:13.06\00:07:16.80 and giving them an education and giving them hope. 00:07:16.97\00:07:20.04 Child Impact sponsors the majority of children living and 00:07:25.84\00:07:28.91 studying at the school. 00:07:29.08\00:07:30.41 Without sponsorship, these children would not have the 00:07:30.55\00:07:32.95 opportunity for a new chance in life. 00:07:33.08\00:07:34.85 The school for the blind is not just an institution that 00:07:36.18\00:07:38.89 provides food and shelter for the blind, 00:07:38.92\00:07:40.46 but it's an institution that prepares them for the world 00:07:40.49\00:07:43.49 outside. 00:07:43.53\00:07:44.86 We're not preparing them only for a place to live, eat, and 00:07:45.76\00:07:50.83 grow up; we're preparing them for the opportunity to prepare 00:07:50.87\00:07:57.14 for a career where they can be self-sustaining adults 00:07:57.17\00:08:01.48 throughout their life. 00:08:01.51\00:08:03.11 It's not just a temporary fix and then we kick them out, 00:08:03.14\00:08:08.15 They then can leave the school and go out and fill a need that 00:08:10.49\00:08:14.89 the government will assist them with, provide them for, 00:08:14.92\00:08:18.03 where they become productive in society on their own. 00:08:18.06\00:08:20.86 The exciting thing in India is that the government has made 00:08:22.83\00:08:25.70 jobs available for these children. 00:08:25.73\00:08:27.77 So we're equipping them for roles that they can step into. 00:08:27.80\00:08:32.04 We're giving them, probably, their only chance of any 00:08:32.07\00:08:35.31 training in this particular very rural, very tribal, very poor 00:08:35.34\00:08:40.48 community. 00:08:40.52\00:08:41.85 So we're not only giving them education; we're giving them a 00:08:42.32\00:08:44.85 critical stepping stone for the roles that are available for 00:08:44.89\00:08:48.89 them in the community. 00:08:48.92\00:08:50.43 All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all 00:08:54.50\00:09:02.14 These children may not have the ability to see, but this 00:09:03.81\00:09:06.88 disability does not deprive them of the ability to learn. 00:09:06.91\00:09:09.84 They are perfectly capable of acquiring skills needed for 00:09:10.45\00:09:13.62 employment. 00:09:14.02\00:09:15.35 In fact, the Indian government refers to them not as disabled, 00:09:15.38\00:09:18.19 but differently abled. 00:09:18.49\00:09:19.82 And the school for the blind provides them an ideal place 00:09:19.92\00:09:22.99 for these differently abled children to acquire skills. 00:09:23.02\00:09:25.76 For Akhila's parents who are daily laborers, knowing their 00:09:26.33\00:09:29.70 blind child is attending school is a satisfying feeling. 00:09:29.73\00:09:32.93 Without sponsorship, Akhila would not be at the school. 00:09:59.16\00:10:02.70 Today, because of Child Impact Sponsorship Program, 00:10:04.10\00:10:07.07 and individuals supporting its program, 00:10:07.10\00:10:08.94 hundreds of differently abled students like Akhila 00:10:08.97\00:10:11.54 can receive an education - 00:10:11.81\00:10:13.14 an education that will help them to lead a dignified life. 00:10:13.51\00:10:16.91 If people like...children like Akhila... If they don't 00:10:18.31\00:10:22.65 come to our school, if they would rather stay at home, 00:10:22.68\00:10:25.89 the condition becomes worse and people don't really love her. 00:10:25.92\00:10:30.23 They don't take her in this family. 00:10:30.26\00:10:32.86 So... It is a must for us to go forward and find children. 00:10:34.26\00:10:39.07 And sponsors for them especially mean very much to them, 00:10:39.50\00:10:45.67 because people like Akhila, who are visually impaired, need to 00:10:45.71\00:10:51.68 this kind of education and this part of... 00:10:51.71\00:10:55.45 The child is the center of Child Impact's work. 00:10:58.69\00:11:01.02 Whether one is able to contribute in a small way 00:11:01.36\00:11:03.69 or in a big way, sponsorship endows these children's future, 00:11:03.73\00:11:07.43 giving them the life they deserve. 00:11:07.56\00:11:09.70 Child Impact's work with these special needs children 00:11:09.73\00:11:12.97 also has a much bigger impact in the community. 00:11:13.03\00:11:15.70 Our special schools have a special impact, and the reality 00:11:16.54\00:11:20.44 is that many people, at all levels of society, are becoming 00:11:20.48\00:11:24.68 to know our work through these special homes and schools. 00:11:24.71\00:11:28.35 So they're impacting the child, the family, and the community 00:11:28.38\00:11:32.52 with what Christianity and Seventh-Day Adventists are all 00:11:32.55\00:11:36.22 Special Needs Ministries is an area in which we are very, very 00:11:37.66\00:11:43.23 interested and very proactively working, helping the world field 00:11:43.26\00:11:47.24 to understand that there are many people in various areas 00:11:47.27\00:11:50.97 and sectors of the population that have not been touched. 00:11:51.01\00:11:54.31 Special Needs Ministries in Child Impact is also extremely 00:11:54.34\00:11:58.81 helpful to God's church, because those who are 00:11:59.48\00:12:03.39 physically impaired, those who are visually impaired, 00:12:03.59\00:12:07.92 or perhaps hearing impaired, they are the individuals that 00:12:07.96\00:12:12.56 are being wonderfully serviced through Child Impact. 00:12:12.59\00:12:15.93 In India, in other places... Six different countries that 00:12:15.96\00:12:20.77 Child Impact is active in. 00:12:20.80\00:12:23.37 You know, the Lord really wants us to attract and be friendly 00:12:23.41\00:12:29.04 to and help those who are the least of these. 00:12:29.08\00:12:33.01 And they, in turn, will then become great missionaries for 00:12:33.05\00:12:37.22 the Lord within their sector and people group. 00:12:37.25\00:12:40.56 Thanks to the generous support of Child Impact and its 00:12:50.17\00:12:53.17 sponsors, blind children like Akhila not only have a place 00:12:53.20\00:12:56.91 where they can acquire life skills for the world outside, 00:12:56.94\00:12:59.54 but they have a place where they can prepare their souls for the 00:12:59.57\00:13:02.24 world to come. 00:13:02.28\00:13:04.38 The country of Bangladesh where the population of 163 million 00:13:09.75\00:13:14.42 is one of the most densely populated and poorest countries 00:13:14.56\00:13:18.39 in the world. 00:13:18.43\00:13:19.76 The Adventist church has about 30,000 members, 00:13:20.23\00:13:23.53 and the church school system has about 10,000 children 00:13:23.57\00:13:27.80 in small village schools, and larger boarding schools. 00:13:27.84\00:13:31.87 The main religion is Islam, and education is the key 00:13:31.91\00:13:36.11 outreach for the church. 00:13:36.14\00:13:38.21 Most of Bangladesh is low-lying land on a huge area river delta. 00:13:38.71\00:13:44.22 Late last year, Bangladesh suffered the worst flooding in 00:13:44.72\00:13:48.32 its history, with over 8 million people displaced or affected. 00:13:48.36\00:13:53.80 Thousands died. 00:13:54.30\00:13:55.93 Unfortunately, farming was devastated by the flooding, 00:13:56.20\00:13:59.50 which caused food prices to skyrocket in price, 00:14:00.00\00:14:03.27 and it created food shortages. 00:14:03.30\00:14:05.67 In most of the country, prices still remained very high. 00:14:06.01\00:14:10.85 This has put a huge financial strain on our mission school 00:14:11.58\00:14:14.85 finances. 00:14:14.98\00:14:16.32 Children are not getting sufficient nutrition, 00:14:16.35\00:14:18.65 and the mission schools are asking for help. 00:14:18.85\00:14:21.32 We're asking you to help us purchase 5,000 bags of rice 00:14:21.76\00:14:26.59 for $35 a bag. 00:14:27.00\00:14:28.96 Each bag is 110 lb and feeds about 105 meals. 00:14:29.50\00:14:34.27 Each bag you donate will ensure children are fed 00:14:34.87\00:14:38.27 and will also save the school's valuable funds. 00:14:38.44\00:14:42.18 You can donate one bag - 10 bags - 100 bags - 00:14:42.88\00:14:46.11 or just whatever you can share. 00:14:46.15\00:14:48.38 This is an urgent need. Let's help these kids. 00:14:48.78\00:14:52.79 A couple of years ago, my daughters and I had a wonderful 00:15:04.97\00:15:08.14 opportunity to travel to India. And while we were there, 00:15:08.17\00:15:11.51 we met yet another part of our family - 00:15:11.54\00:15:13.71 and that's our sponsor daughter, Sheila. 00:15:13.74\00:15:16.08 We've had the privilege of sponsoring Sheila through Child 00:15:16.44\00:15:19.85 Impact International for more than 3 years now. 00:15:19.88\00:15:23.22 And you know, while we were there, she shared with us that 00:15:23.62\00:15:26.86 her dream was to become a nurse. 00:15:27.02\00:15:29.36 Now, what a wonderful privilege it is for us, now as a family, 00:15:29.76\00:15:34.06 to know that she is fulfilling that dream. 00:15:34.26\00:15:37.27 Sheila is now studying to be a nurse. 00:15:37.37\00:15:40.20 She's in college and we could not be happier for her. 00:15:40.54\00:15:43.81 It's been wonderful to be part of that journey with her. 00:15:43.91\00:15:47.28 And you know, sponsoring a child through Child Impact... 00:15:47.84\00:15:50.75 It's made an incredible difference for our family. 00:15:51.08\00:15:53.75 And I know that for you, sponsoring a child can make 00:15:54.02\00:15:56.69 a difference for you, too. 00:15:56.79\00:15:58.12 And most importantly, it can make the difference in the life 00:15:58.19\00:16:01.22 of a child, every day. 00:16:01.29\00:16:03.09 At Adventist mission schools like this one in Bangladesh, 00:16:15.20\00:16:18.41 Child Impact International sponsors hundreds of children. 00:16:18.57\00:16:22.04 We often think that sponsorship only impacts on the life of the 00:16:22.51\00:16:26.61 child. 00:16:26.65\00:16:27.98 But it's much wider than that. It impacts on the parents, 00:16:28.02\00:16:31.09 and on the community. But more important, it impacts on the 00:16:31.12\00:16:35.39 school. It becomes valuable income for the school, 00:16:35.42\00:16:39.06 and then in turn, it impacts on hundreds of other children. 00:16:39.09\00:16:42.86 I just ask that you would consider sponsoring a child with 00:16:43.26\00:16:46.90 Child Impact. Or supporting one of its 00:16:46.94\00:16:49.24 valuable projects that will improve education in Adventist 00:16:49.27\00:16:53.34 mission schools like this one right here. 00:16:53.38\00:16:56.34 Bobbili, a small rural town in Andhra Pradesh, India, 00:17:23.67\00:17:27.24 has nothing to offer to a visitor. 00:17:27.28\00:17:29.54 Its streets, often bustling and chaotic, are typical of rural 00:17:29.74\00:17:33.62 towns in India. 00:17:33.65\00:17:34.98 Poverty is widespread, and people struggle to meet ends, 00:17:37.22\00:17:41.26 doing menial jobs and often tending to paddy fields 00:17:41.29\00:17:44.13 owned by landlords. 00:17:44.16\00:17:45.49 Visits to villages around here only amplify one's perception 00:17:52.53\00:17:56.37 of abject poverty people live in on a daily basis. 00:17:56.71\00:17:59.97 But it is in this despairing and gloomy environment 00:18:00.18\00:18:02.84 we often get to see an experience, hopefulness, 00:18:02.98\00:18:05.91 and optimism. 00:18:05.95\00:18:07.28 Over the last 15 years, Child Impact International has 00:18:15.09\00:18:19.09 undertaken numerous development work, in and around the Bobbili 00:18:19.29\00:18:22.70 area. 00:18:22.76\00:18:24.10 The Sunrise Children's Home, situated about 10 miles from 00:18:24.13\00:18:27.17 Bobbili, is one such project that gives orphaned and 00:18:27.24\00:18:30.54 abandoned children an ideal place to live and learn. 00:18:30.67\00:18:34.01 10-year-old Akhil Mutacha and his younger brother Cherin 00:18:45.09\00:18:49.02 were orphaned at a very early age, and came to live at 00:18:49.22\00:18:52.16 Sunrise Home two years ago. 00:18:52.29\00:18:53.86 Their family belonged to a tribal community who live in the 00:18:54.73\00:18:57.63 mountainous region bordering the states of Odisha and Andhra 00:18:57.87\00:19:00.47 Pradesh in southeastern India. 00:19:00.50\00:19:02.37 This is again Cherin's auntie's house. 00:19:03.64\00:19:05.37 They're living here; the children - they're living up in 00:19:06.04\00:19:09.21 the mountains. They came down here. 00:19:10.55\00:19:13.82 This is a very cool village. And this village - no water 00:19:13.85\00:19:17.65 facilities, no agricultural facilities. The poor-cultured 00:19:17.69\00:19:20.86 people depend on the forest products. They collect the 00:19:21.02\00:19:23.66 forest products, and the... In the afternoon, every day in 00:19:23.79\00:19:26.93 the afternoon, they'll eat some porridge. There's no rice - no 00:19:26.96\00:19:30.47 other stuff to use to fill the stomach. 00:19:30.50\00:19:32.13 They'll cook a little bit of rice and some vegetables and 00:19:32.17\00:19:36.77 they'll eat. Every day, they'll eat one meal. 00:19:37.01\00:19:38.67 The majority of children at Sunrise Home come from tribal 00:19:45.31\00:19:48.38 villages and communities around Bobbili; and the home is 00:19:48.58\00:19:51.52 well-regarded, in and around Bobbili, because 00:19:51.55\00:19:54.26 of Child Impact's development work among the tribal people. 00:19:54.29\00:19:57.33 A few years ago, Child Impact had conducted a vocational 00:19:57.76\00:20:01.13 training program for young men and women from the tribal 00:20:01.23\00:20:03.67 community. It was during one such project that Raj Varma, 00:20:03.90\00:20:07.90 field officer of Child Impact, came across Akhil and Cherin. 00:20:08.17\00:20:11.94 In 2014 I came to this village for tribal development project. 00:20:11.97\00:20:17.05 So that time, the Child Impact International wants to do some 00:20:17.08\00:20:22.15 development project for the tribal people living through 00:20:22.32\00:20:25.45 the living standards and livelihood. 00:20:25.49\00:20:27.69 So that time, these ladies shouldered these shoulderless 00:20:27.72\00:20:31.83 children and... requested me to take them to the 00:20:31.86\00:20:38.20 Sunrise Orphanage. 00:20:38.23\00:20:39.57 Raj Varma had learned from the boys' relatives that their 00:20:40.50\00:20:43.81 father had fallen from a tree and had died, 00:20:44.01\00:20:45.97 and the boys came to live with their aunts who took turns to 00:20:46.01\00:20:48.74 look after them. When inquired about the 00:20:48.78\00:20:50.75 whereabouts of their mother, Raj Varma was told that she had died 00:20:50.78\00:20:54.25 of malaria. 00:20:54.28\00:20:55.62 Seeing their pitiable living conditions, he brought Akhil 00:20:55.72\00:20:58.75 and Cherin to Sunrise Home. 00:20:58.79\00:21:00.59 It was at Sunrise the boys revealed the real 00:21:00.62\00:21:03.53 whereabouts of their mother. 00:21:03.56\00:21:04.89 I couldn't... when I asked the children, 00:21:05.46\00:21:09.46 when I'm writing the story. 00:21:09.50\00:21:12.30 Akhil, the elder one, he said, "My mother went away 00:21:12.33\00:21:16.34 with another man." I felt very sad and very bad. 00:21:16.37\00:21:19.94 Children, when they're grown up, they won't have love towards the 00:21:19.97\00:21:24.61 parents. When they're grown up, parents will come. 00:21:24.71\00:21:28.88 When the mother comes, when the children see them, 00:21:28.98\00:21:32.65 what respect will they have? 00:21:32.75\00:21:34.19 They'll never have respect, because "she left, 00:21:35.06\00:21:38.09 and...just left, and went away." 00:21:38.13\00:21:40.73 And immediately, when the children told like they're... 00:21:40.76\00:21:43.20 I felt very bad. And very sad. 00:21:43.33\00:21:45.60 As a mother, I'm giving them love. And they know I'm the 00:21:47.04\00:21:51.57 mother, so they love me and I, too, love them. 00:21:51.64\00:21:54.24 Now, they're very happy. "They says, Mama, you don't send 00:21:54.28\00:21:55.61 us to home. We don't want to stay there." 00:21:55.64\00:22:01.38 It is not uncommon for a single parent in tribal communities to 00:22:02.88\00:22:06.52 abandon their children when his or her spouse dies, 00:22:06.55\00:22:09.49 and the children's relatives don't reveal the whole story, 00:22:09.52\00:22:12.03 because they're ashamed of the truth, and are unwilling to 00:22:12.36\00:22:14.80 reveal the customs and practices that are prevalent in their 00:22:14.90\00:22:17.73 community that may seem bizarre and cruel to an outsider. 00:22:17.87\00:22:21.40 I don't think we can understand the life of an orphan. 00:22:23.71\00:22:26.24 They may not know who their parents are, or they may know 00:22:26.27\00:22:29.84 the tragic circumstances they come from. 00:22:29.91\00:22:32.45 So we not only give them an education - we give them a home, 00:22:32.48\00:22:33.82 but we give them hope; we give them a future, 00:22:33.85\00:22:39.65 and just for a child knowing that they've got a future - 00:22:39.69\00:22:42.76 knowing that they've got some way they can go in their life - 00:22:42.79\00:22:45.96 makes a huge difference to them, and we're just so excited we can 00:22:45.99\00:22:50.20 be a part of making that total difference. 00:22:50.23\00:22:53.34 If they did come to Sunrise Home... 00:22:55.10\00:22:57.21 No one knows. No education professionalist. 00:22:59.74\00:23:03.24 And... no food. Even though they fill 00:23:03.28\00:23:07.55 their stomachs with some porridge, there is no valuable 00:23:07.58\00:23:10.29 food here. No valuable food. 00:23:10.35\00:23:13.66 The most of the children are malnutritious. 00:23:13.82\00:23:17.06 There are no children who, these... 00:23:17.13\00:23:19.29 If you didn't come to Sunrise Home, by this time, the children 00:23:19.76\00:23:23.67 might have disappeared. 00:23:23.70\00:23:25.67 Sunrise Home has given Akhil and Cherin a sense of belonging. 00:23:54.03\00:23:57.60 A sense of place that is safe and comfortable. 00:23:57.63\00:24:00.00 A place where they don't feel like they're orphaned or 00:24:00.20\00:24:02.80 abandoned. Thanks to Akhil and Cherin's 00:24:02.84\00:24:04.97 sponsors, Child Impact is giving them a new life at Sunrise Home, 00:24:05.07\00:24:09.24 and giving them an opportunity to receive a proper education. 00:24:09.41\00:24:13.25 I really...I want to thank Akhil and Cherin's sponsors 00:24:13.78\00:24:17.09 for playing an important role in their lives, 00:24:17.52\00:24:20.39 and now they're really happy here. I'm only the caretaker 00:24:20.42\00:24:23.76 who is taking care of them and molding them, 00:24:23.89\00:24:25.89 but there had been important persons who had given them 00:24:25.93\00:24:29.10 a good life. 00:24:29.16\00:24:30.50 Well, when I go to Sunrise Home, children like Akhil and Cherin 00:24:32.03\00:24:36.40 just come running towards you. They're just so happy to see 00:24:36.44\00:24:39.77 you. It's as if they have a... that you are a part of their 00:24:39.97\00:24:44.41 family. And it's one of the most 00:24:44.45\00:24:47.38 rewarding aspects of the job that I have. 00:24:47.42\00:24:50.02 And I'm very grateful that I've had this experience - 00:24:50.05\00:24:52.95 of having children just so happy, beaming - 00:24:53.02\00:24:56.46 and if you saw them when they first come in to where they are 00:24:56.73\00:24:59.89 now, we're not only giving them education - but we're making 00:24:59.93\00:25:03.97 their lives. We literally become a part of their family. 00:25:04.00\00:25:07.57 And...it's just so exciting, and I'm just so grateful that I can 00:25:07.74\00:25:12.97 be a part of this work that the donors do. 00:25:13.01\00:25:16.31 Today, Child Impact International is reaching out to 00:25:22.62\00:25:25.85 children in need. And for brothers like Akhil 00:25:25.99\00:25:28.06 and Cherin, Sunrise Home is a safe haven, 00:25:28.09\00:25:30.99 providing not just their basic needs and an opportunity for an 00:25:31.03\00:25:32.36 education, but giving them parental love and affection. 00:25:32.39\00:25:37.97 A chance and a hope for a brighter future. 00:25:38.00\00:25:40.84 Coming where I do from America, I knew, I read, I've heard the 00:25:42.07\00:25:48.84 stories, I've seen the film clips, 00:25:48.88\00:25:50.98 but until you walk... 00:25:52.21\00:25:59.02 Until you walk upon these... walk on these sidewalks 00:26:02.96\00:26:06.46 of the home where the children are stayin', and you see what is 00:26:06.86\00:26:11.73 going on in their faces, 00:26:11.77\00:26:13.30 you can be assured that a good work is happening. 00:26:15.47\00:26:19.01 That...you can rest assured that lives are being changed, 00:26:19.41\00:26:24.81 children are being made happy, and it was a powerful experience 00:26:24.85\00:26:29.48 that ilaid any concerns that I have about the value that I am 00:26:29.52\00:26:37.09 getting for my sponsorship. 00:26:37.13\00:26:39.03 There's no problem. I just love, love what's going on. 00:26:40.00\00:26:44.07
