Our television series Hope in Motion 00:00:10.61\00:00:13.27 has been a big success 00:00:13.31\00:00:15.08 and we want to continue to share with you 00:00:15.11\00:00:17.71 some of the field stories 00:00:17.75\00:00:19.55 that we have filmed over the years. 00:00:19.58\00:00:21.82 So just from time to time, 00:00:21.85\00:00:23.92 it may refer Asian Aid 00:00:23.95\00:00:26.15 as we reflect on these great stories 00:00:26.19\00:00:29.22 as we share them with you. 00:00:29.26\00:00:30.73 Welcome to Myanmar. 00:00:34.50\00:00:36.53 I am standing 00:00:36.56\00:00:37.90 on the bank of the delta region of this country 00:00:37.93\00:00:40.14 and as we look out on to the river, 00:00:40.17\00:00:42.24 this plays an integral part 00:00:42.27\00:00:43.97 in the lives and economy of the people in this country 00:00:44.01\00:00:47.31 through fishing as well as transportation. 00:00:47.34\00:00:50.81 Ninety percent of the people 00:00:50.85\00:00:52.18 in this country practice Buddhism. 00:00:52.21\00:00:54.48 In fact, Myanmar is one of the most religious 00:00:54.52\00:00:57.32 Buddhist countries in the world. 00:00:57.35\00:00:59.69 When looking at the proportion of monks to people, population, 00:00:59.72\00:01:04.33 as well as the amount of income that they spend on religion. 00:01:04.36\00:01:09.76 This presents a great challenge to the mission 00:01:09.80\00:01:12.43 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church here in Myanmar, 00:01:12.47\00:01:15.60 but this is beginning to change slowly. 00:01:15.64\00:01:18.21 Adventist education plays a central role 00:01:18.24\00:01:22.44 in the spreading of the gospel in Myanmar. 00:01:22.48\00:01:26.11 The challenges that a decent education is expensive, 00:01:26.15\00:01:30.95 most people can't afford. 00:01:30.99\00:01:32.85 But this is where an organization like Asian Aid 00:01:32.89\00:01:35.99 has such a great deal of impact. 00:01:36.02\00:01:38.53 They are concerned and committed 00:01:38.56\00:01:40.76 to the welfare of children in need here. 00:01:40.80\00:01:44.27 Join me on a journey 00:01:44.30\00:01:46.74 as we see what Asian Aid is doing 00:01:46.77\00:01:49.80 to strengthen and further the mission 00:01:49.84\00:01:51.97 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Myanmar. 00:01:52.01\00:01:54.78 Child impact International is an organization giving hope, 00:02:11.49\00:02:15.33 previously called Asian Aid. 00:02:15.36\00:02:17.37 Child Impact International is an organization 00:02:17.40\00:02:20.10 fostering permanent positive change 00:02:20.14\00:02:22.27 in the lives of disadvantaged children 00:02:22.30\00:02:24.41 and their communities. 00:02:24.44\00:02:26.04 Child Impact is committed to making a difference 00:02:26.07\00:02:28.61 in the lives of children 00:02:28.64\00:02:29.98 and those who are in need, 00:02:30.01\00:02:31.45 serving communities in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, 00:02:31.48\00:02:35.48 Myanmar and will soon expand to other countries. 00:02:35.52\00:02:38.79 For the last 50 years, 00:02:38.82\00:02:40.29 Child Impact has invested in the futures of people 00:02:40.32\00:02:43.26 and their investment is proving infinite returns, 00:02:43.29\00:02:46.26 driven by the dedication 00:02:46.29\00:02:47.63 to helping those who have the least. 00:02:47.66\00:02:49.76 Child Impact is an organization 00:02:49.80\00:02:51.83 focused on the welfare of children, 00:02:51.87\00:02:53.97 implementing diverse development projects 00:02:54.00\00:02:56.54 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:02:56.57\00:02:58.61 Their outreach spans from Child Rescue operations 00:02:58.64\00:03:01.74 to providing an education for orphans, 00:03:01.78\00:03:04.05 deaf and the blind children giving them a sense of place, 00:03:04.08\00:03:08.05 a home but above all, 00:03:08.08\00:03:09.72 Child Impact is an organization giving hope, 00:03:09.75\00:03:12.79 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:03:12.82\00:03:16.09 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:03:16.12\00:03:18.83 This is Hope in Motion. 00:03:18.86\00:03:20.70 Myanmar or Burma as it used to be called 00:03:29.04\00:03:32.41 is in Southeast Asia. 00:03:32.44\00:03:34.28 It borders China, India, Bangladesh, Laos and Thailand. 00:03:34.31\00:03:39.01 It has naturally absorbed 00:03:39.05\00:03:40.48 some of the cultural influences of these neighbors. 00:03:40.52\00:03:43.92 For years, colonial rule was seen here 00:03:43.95\00:03:46.72 but then, rampant ethnic strife 00:03:46.76\00:03:49.59 caused a military backed government to take power. 00:03:49.62\00:03:53.70 But more recently, 00:03:53.73\00:03:55.06 civilian rule has come to be established 00:03:55.10\00:03:58.67 and the country has opened up its doors to the outside world. 00:03:58.70\00:04:02.67 There is peace and freedom. 00:04:02.70\00:04:05.47 This is good news for the mission 00:04:05.51\00:04:06.91 of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Myanmar 00:04:06.94\00:04:09.64 and these supporting ministries like Asian Aid. 00:04:09.68\00:04:12.75 Myanmar is predominately a Buddhist country 00:04:22.06\00:04:25.09 where over 85% of the population 00:04:25.13\00:04:28.16 practices Buddhism. 00:04:28.20\00:04:30.27 Public evangelism is banned, 00:04:30.30\00:04:32.57 but the Adventist message is slowly trickling through. 00:04:32.60\00:04:36.71 The main reason for that is our school system. 00:04:36.74\00:04:40.01 Our Adventist schools are a wonderful place 00:04:40.04\00:04:42.68 for us to introduce Jesus 00:04:42.71\00:04:44.85 to the children at a very early age, 00:04:44.88\00:04:47.98 but being a poor country, 00:04:48.02\00:04:49.65 many children struggle to attend school 00:04:49.68\00:04:52.52 and get a good education. 00:04:52.55\00:04:54.62 This is where Asian Aid has its biggest impact. 00:04:54.66\00:04:59.23 Last year at the GC session in San Antonio, 00:04:59.26\00:05:01.80 I was privileged to do a benefit concert for Asian Aid 00:05:01.83\00:05:04.93 so that more children could be sponsored. 00:05:04.97\00:05:07.47 When I heard about the work 00:05:07.50\00:05:08.90 that is also being done here in Myanmar, 00:05:08.94\00:05:11.07 I was naturally curious 00:05:11.11\00:05:12.57 and I wanted to come here and see for myself. 00:05:12.61\00:05:15.21 I wanted to see exactly what Asian Aid is doing 00:05:15.24\00:05:18.48 to bring hope, salvation, 00:05:18.51\00:05:20.72 and a future to children in need in Myanmar. 00:05:20.75\00:05:23.99 I was first taken to Myanmar Union Adventist seminary 00:05:41.87\00:05:45.47 or MUAS, 00:05:45.51\00:05:47.28 as it is commonly known here. 00:05:47.31\00:05:49.34 Now, MUAS is the only Adventist institution 00:05:49.38\00:05:53.65 of higher learning in Myanmar, 00:05:53.68\00:05:56.05 and it plays a very important role 00:05:56.08\00:05:58.55 in developing young minds 00:05:58.59\00:06:00.56 to be future torchbearers for the church. 00:06:00.59\00:06:04.79 We have only one Adventist College in Myanmar, 00:06:04.83\00:06:09.46 and it is very important 00:06:09.50\00:06:11.10 because all youths of Adventist Church in Myanmar, 00:06:11.13\00:06:16.40 they come here to study. 00:06:16.44\00:06:19.84 It helped them to get the education for their life, 00:06:19.87\00:06:23.71 and also their spiritual education 00:06:23.75\00:06:27.35 to prepare for testimony to others 00:06:27.38\00:06:31.45 about the love of God. 00:06:31.49\00:06:34.52 Right now we have over 600 students this semester. 00:06:34.56\00:06:39.56 And most of our students 00:06:39.59\00:06:42.23 come from financially poor background. 00:06:42.26\00:06:46.20 And our members scatter all over Myanmar 00:06:46.23\00:06:51.61 from different regions and states. 00:06:51.64\00:06:55.38 So in my union mission, 00:06:55.41\00:06:59.11 the church have a good anticipation 00:06:59.15\00:07:03.28 on these young people. 00:07:03.32\00:07:05.02 They are the future of the church. 00:07:05.05\00:07:07.29 And they have solid Adventist education 00:07:07.32\00:07:11.93 in this institution only. 00:07:11.96\00:07:13.46 The seminary is a beautiful campus. 00:07:18.23\00:07:21.50 As I was given a quick tour, 00:07:21.54\00:07:23.47 I heard music coming from the auditorium. 00:07:23.51\00:07:26.44 Intrigued by the sound of violin filling the air, 00:07:26.47\00:07:29.81 I went to the auditorium 00:07:29.84\00:07:31.21 to find beautiful young ladies practicing. 00:07:31.25\00:07:36.72 Using and developing your talents 00:07:36.75\00:07:39.25 for God's honor and glory. 00:07:39.29\00:07:40.82 All right. 00:09:05.67\00:09:07.11 Fantastic. 00:09:07.14\00:09:08.74 I have been here at the seminary 00:09:08.78\00:09:10.15 for just a few hours, 00:09:10.18\00:09:11.51 but one of the things that has brought me the most joy 00:09:11.55\00:09:14.32 was to hear them practicing. 00:09:14.35\00:09:16.18 We were walking around the campus, 00:09:16.22\00:09:17.85 but we could hear this wonderful beautiful music. 00:09:17.89\00:09:21.22 You know, these young people 00:09:21.26\00:09:22.79 come from different places and different backgrounds. 00:09:22.82\00:09:26.16 But something has brought them together, 00:09:26.19\00:09:28.66 music and Jesus Christ. 00:09:28.70\00:09:31.47 You see, some of these songs that praise the Lord 00:09:31.50\00:09:34.40 are the first exposure that they have to Jesus, 00:09:34.44\00:09:37.67 but this is a way 00:09:37.71\00:09:39.04 in which they are coming to learn about Jesus Christ. 00:09:39.07\00:09:42.34 Asian Aid is making it possible for these young people 00:09:42.38\00:09:45.81 and many others to be able to dedicate 00:09:45.85\00:09:48.32 their talents and their lives 00:09:48.35\00:09:50.29 to share the love of Jesus with others. 00:09:50.32\00:09:55.42 Young people using their talents 00:09:55.46\00:09:57.13 for the glory of God 00:09:57.16\00:09:58.63 and witnessing it 00:09:58.66\00:10:00.03 on one of the frontier mission fields 00:10:00.06\00:10:01.96 of the church is a true blessing. 00:10:02.00\00:10:04.93 In fact, the spirituality that emits 00:10:04.97\00:10:07.37 from the students and staff alike 00:10:07.40\00:10:09.44 is very encouraging to me and many other visitors 00:10:09.47\00:10:12.74 who have visited this campus over the years. 00:10:12.77\00:10:16.01 It reinforced my belief in the Adventist school system 00:10:16.04\00:10:19.55 and the role education plays 00:10:19.58\00:10:22.15 in witnessing for our Lord and Savior. 00:10:22.18\00:10:26.15 I believe that in the country of Myanmar, 00:10:26.19\00:10:29.32 probably more so than in many other countries in the world, 00:10:29.36\00:10:32.33 education is vital. 00:10:32.36\00:10:34.36 And I believe so, 00:10:34.40\00:10:35.73 because education seems to be the platform 00:10:35.76\00:10:39.93 in which many non-Adventists or Christians 00:10:39.97\00:10:44.71 get to know about Jesus Christ. 00:10:44.74\00:10:46.98 And so from my particular perspective, 00:10:47.01\00:10:48.88 education is vital in this country. 00:10:48.91\00:10:51.68 It is important that we subsidize it, 00:10:51.71\00:10:54.02 it is important that we, that we really create 00:10:54.05\00:10:57.95 the environment in which children have an opportunity 00:10:57.99\00:11:01.59 to learn about Christ. 00:11:01.62\00:11:04.93 But a good education is not easy to get, 00:11:04.96\00:11:08.00 particularly in rural areas. 00:11:08.03\00:11:11.00 Especially in a poor country like Myanmar 00:11:11.03\00:11:13.70 where obtaining a good Adventist education 00:11:13.74\00:11:16.50 is not within reach 00:11:16.54\00:11:18.31 of a majority of Adventist families. 00:11:18.34\00:11:21.98 As you know, Asian Aid operates in six countries in Asia, 00:11:22.01\00:11:26.11 and recently into Myanmar. 00:11:26.15\00:11:28.58 Now traditionally, Asian Aid takes the child based on need 00:11:28.62\00:11:32.59 and places them in an Adventist school. 00:11:32.62\00:11:36.22 Poverty is a vicious cycle. 00:11:36.26\00:11:38.29 And in Myanmar, there is a lot of poverty. 00:11:38.33\00:11:41.83 And the great thing about education 00:11:41.86\00:11:44.17 is that it helps break that cycle, 00:11:44.20\00:11:46.94 that cycle that has an impact 00:11:46.97\00:11:48.74 not just on the child but on the family. 00:11:48.77\00:11:52.07 And this is why sponsorship in a country like Myanmar 00:11:52.11\00:11:56.38 is very, very significant for the total population, 00:11:56.41\00:12:00.98 not just on the child but on the family 00:12:01.02\00:12:03.62 and on the village they come from. 00:12:03.65\00:12:06.69 I truly believe 00:12:06.72\00:12:08.06 that our Adventist schools and seminaries 00:12:08.09\00:12:09.99 not only serve as an educational institution 00:12:10.03\00:12:13.46 but also as a beacon of light to the community it serves. 00:12:13.50\00:12:19.33 Talking about community, 00:12:19.37\00:12:21.17 I was anxious to visit some of the neighboring villages 00:12:21.20\00:12:24.57 and see for myself, 00:12:24.61\00:12:26.34 some of the circumstances that these students come from. 00:12:26.37\00:12:29.61 I am in a small poor village, deep in the heart of Myanmar. 00:12:59.44\00:13:03.38 You wouldn't know it, 00:13:03.41\00:13:04.75 but our school is actually not too far away. 00:13:04.78\00:13:08.12 In our western comfortable cultures and countries, 00:13:08.15\00:13:11.25 we've probably heard about poverty, 00:13:11.29\00:13:13.59 we've read about it, we've seen pictures 00:13:13.62\00:13:16.06 but unless you are here, 00:13:16.09\00:13:17.79 it's hard to fully grasp and understand what it's like. 00:13:17.83\00:13:22.56 The children you see behind me live in this village. 00:13:22.60\00:13:26.13 Their parents go out and work 00:13:26.17\00:13:27.77 under backbreaking conditions all day. 00:13:27.80\00:13:31.07 That means that these children stay here, 00:13:31.11\00:13:33.64 they don't have the chance to go to school, 00:13:33.68\00:13:36.04 and when they grow up the cycle is perpetuated. 00:13:36.08\00:13:39.85 They can only go to work 00:13:39.88\00:13:41.22 where their parents worked and this continues. 00:13:41.25\00:13:44.52 But Asian Aid is making it possible 00:13:44.55\00:13:46.79 for these young people 00:13:46.82\00:13:48.32 to be able to go to a Christian school, 00:13:48.36\00:13:50.09 get an education, love Jesus 00:13:50.13\00:13:53.29 and then serve others and God. 00:13:53.33\00:13:57.43 Come with me after the break, 00:13:57.47\00:13:59.50 and I'm going to show you a prime example 00:13:59.53\00:14:02.20 of how this sponsorship program is changing the lives, 00:14:02.24\00:14:05.77 is breaking the cycle of poverty 00:14:05.81\00:14:08.01 and bringing hope, salvation, and a future to many. 00:14:08.04\00:14:11.35 I just got a letter 00:14:18.62\00:14:19.95 from our sponsored daughter Sheila. 00:14:19.99\00:14:21.72 I've got to tell you, 00:14:21.76\00:14:23.09 there is nothing like getting one of these letters. 00:14:23.12\00:14:25.43 Our family has been able to sponsor her 00:14:25.46\00:14:27.40 through Child Impact International, 00:14:27.43\00:14:29.56 because of that she's got a great place to live, 00:14:29.60\00:14:32.33 she's got good food, she's got great clothing, 00:14:32.37\00:14:35.30 best of all, I now found out she's in college, 00:14:35.34\00:14:38.47 she's in nursing school. 00:14:38.51\00:14:40.34 There's nothing like getting a letter like this. 00:14:40.38\00:14:43.45 You need to start getting these letters too. 00:14:43.48\00:14:45.58 Listen, through Child Impact, 00:14:45.61\00:14:47.22 you can make a huge difference in the life of a child, 00:14:47.25\00:14:50.52 and I promise you, 00:14:50.55\00:14:51.99 it's going to make a huge difference 00:14:52.02\00:14:53.69 in your life too. 00:14:53.72\00:14:55.06 At Adventist mission schools like this one on Bangladesh, 00:15:05.50\00:15:09.04 Child Impact International sponsors hundreds of children. 00:15:09.07\00:15:12.74 We often think that sponsorship 00:15:12.77\00:15:15.14 only impacts on the life of the child, 00:15:15.18\00:15:17.68 but it's much wider than that, 00:15:17.71\00:15:19.61 it impacts on the parents and on the community, 00:15:19.65\00:15:23.18 but more important, it impacts on the school. 00:15:23.22\00:15:26.49 It becomes valuable income for the school 00:15:26.52\00:15:29.56 and then in turn, it impacts on hundreds of other children. 00:15:29.59\00:15:33.46 I just ask that you would consider sponsoring a child 00:15:33.50\00:15:36.93 with Child Impact, 00:15:36.97\00:15:38.33 or supporting one of its valuable projects 00:15:38.37\00:15:40.94 that will improve education in Adventist mission schools 00:15:40.97\00:15:44.94 like this one in right here. 00:15:44.97\00:15:46.47 Visiting a village that day was a revelation. 00:16:07.43\00:16:11.30 It opened my eyes 00:16:11.33\00:16:12.67 to the struggles and hardships of the poor in a way 00:16:12.70\00:16:15.80 that you can only understand by being there. 00:16:15.84\00:16:19.54 It gave me a new insight 00:16:19.57\00:16:21.74 into the role our schools play in the mission field, 00:16:21.78\00:16:25.31 and the impact organizations like Asia Aid 00:16:25.35\00:16:28.55 has in supporting the church in its mission. 00:16:28.58\00:16:33.15 Even though the church work 00:16:33.19\00:16:34.52 started over a 100 years ago in Myanmar, 00:16:34.56\00:16:37.36 the past 50 years have been a huge challenge for the church 00:16:37.39\00:16:41.06 because of unfavorable political situations 00:16:41.10\00:16:44.17 that prevailed here. 00:16:44.20\00:16:45.53 And the churches had great challenges 00:16:45.57\00:16:47.94 in promoting Christian education 00:16:47.97\00:16:49.87 across this Buddhist country. 00:16:49.90\00:16:52.17 But the situation has changed and the Lord has opened doors 00:16:52.21\00:16:56.31 and opportunities for us to expand His work in Myanmar. 00:16:56.34\00:17:01.58 For us to move forward in Myanmar in a positive way, 00:17:01.62\00:17:04.69 we established the Asian Aid, Educate Myanmar Fund. 00:17:04.72\00:17:09.32 The purpose of this fund 00:17:09.36\00:17:11.09 is to help sponsor the 600 children 00:17:11.13\00:17:14.36 that we've taken. 00:17:14.40\00:17:15.73 We don't have sponsors for them. 00:17:15.76\00:17:17.37 So stage one of the Educate Myanmar Fund 00:17:17.40\00:17:20.64 is to help sponsor those 600 children 00:17:20.67\00:17:24.24 while we find sponsors. 00:17:24.27\00:17:26.37 The second way is obviously to sponsor 00:17:26.41\00:17:29.34 one or more Myanmar children, 00:17:29.38\00:17:32.28 which you can do through 00:17:32.31\00:17:33.65 the Asian Aid sponsorship system. 00:17:33.68\00:17:36.12 The other need is that these mission schools 00:17:36.15\00:17:39.05 need resources in the classroom, 00:17:39.09\00:17:41.36 they're growing so fast. 00:17:41.39\00:17:43.19 So the Asian Aid Myanmar Fund will be totally committed 00:17:43.22\00:17:47.80 to helping the Adventist schools in Myanmar. 00:17:47.83\00:17:51.57 And the critical thing is that 100% of the money 00:17:51.60\00:17:55.80 sent to Myanmar goes direct to these needy schools, 00:17:55.84\00:18:00.68 mainly for sponsorship 00:18:00.71\00:18:02.51 but also to help develop these schools. 00:18:02.54\00:18:05.91 The Educate Myanmar Fund 00:18:05.95\00:18:08.05 that Asian Aid operates to sponsor children, 00:18:08.08\00:18:11.29 addresses another important issue 00:18:11.32\00:18:14.12 and that is the issue of congestion in the dorms 00:18:14.16\00:18:17.33 and other infrastructural needs. 00:18:17.36\00:18:20.13 Visiting one of the girls' dorm that day, 00:18:20.16\00:18:23.20 it was very evident to me 00:18:23.23\00:18:25.13 that the boarding facilities lacked 00:18:25.17\00:18:27.27 a conducive living environment. 00:18:27.30\00:18:29.64 Yes. We need more rooms. 00:18:37.75\00:18:39.91 Okay. Thank you very much. 00:18:39.95\00:18:43.15 Mm-hmm. Good. 00:18:43.18\00:18:44.85 I just finished a tour of the girls' dorm, 00:18:51.19\00:18:54.20 but the segment that I walked around, 00:18:54.23\00:18:56.56 it's pretty crowded, 00:18:56.60\00:18:57.93 in fact, there are 51 girls that are rooming in that area. 00:18:57.97\00:19:02.60 They sleep on a hard surface. 00:19:02.64\00:19:04.71 And so we want to make it possible for them 00:19:04.74\00:19:07.64 to have improved conditions. 00:19:07.68\00:19:10.35 Now where they come from is a lot more disadvantaged, 00:19:10.38\00:19:14.05 so they are really excited and happy to be here. 00:19:14.08\00:19:16.99 We want to be able to get more of those young people 00:19:17.02\00:19:19.79 from those villages into here 00:19:19.82\00:19:22.22 so that they can study and learn. 00:19:22.26\00:19:24.29 Jim led me to the Adventist high school 00:19:40.31\00:19:42.31 that was situated right across the road 00:19:42.34\00:19:44.65 from the seminary. 00:19:44.68\00:19:46.31 As we went around, 00:19:46.35\00:19:47.92 I came across the same infrastructural needs 00:19:47.95\00:19:51.32 that prevailed in the seminary, 00:19:51.35\00:19:53.76 but to me what was encouraging 00:19:53.79\00:19:56.29 was the fact that in spite of the difficult 00:19:56.32\00:19:58.39 circumstances and situations, 00:19:58.43\00:20:00.90 children were sitting in classrooms learning, 00:20:00.93\00:20:03.73 receiving an education, a Christian education. 00:20:03.77\00:20:08.54 How exciting it is to witness and participate 00:20:08.57\00:20:11.71 in the development of a child's future. 00:20:11.74\00:20:15.28 Going around the campus 00:20:15.31\00:20:16.64 and talking to students and staff, 00:20:16.68\00:20:18.81 I saw the role Asian Aid, and more importantly, 00:20:18.85\00:20:22.05 you, the sponsors are playing in the lives of these children 00:20:22.08\00:20:27.26 that come from such impoverished backgrounds. 00:20:27.29\00:20:32.03 They say that seeing is believing. 00:20:32.06\00:20:34.26 Well, you know what? 00:20:34.30\00:20:35.63 This is it right here. 00:20:35.66\00:20:37.20 It's very exciting behind me, 00:20:37.23\00:20:39.67 beautiful, wonderful young people learning. 00:20:39.70\00:20:42.80 If you're a sponsor, I want you to check this out, 00:20:42.84\00:20:46.44 and if you're not, I want you to look at these young people, 00:20:46.47\00:20:49.81 and perhaps catch the joy, 00:20:49.84\00:20:52.45 the spark and the spirit to be able to do the same 00:20:52.48\00:20:55.62 and make a difference 00:20:55.65\00:20:56.99 in the lives of one of these young people. 00:20:57.02\00:20:58.69 Students who received scholarship 00:21:10.73\00:21:14.07 and obtained Adventist education, 00:21:14.10\00:21:17.31 now they are prospering in their ministry 00:21:17.34\00:21:21.71 as well as in outside jobs. 00:21:21.74\00:21:24.28 For instance, some are now working in the institution. 00:21:24.31\00:21:30.32 Some are in the mission field, 00:21:30.35\00:21:32.85 so I really thank God 00:21:32.89\00:21:36.62 for this sponsorship program. 00:21:36.66\00:21:40.96 The sponsorship for the children is very important 00:21:41.00\00:21:44.90 because when we look Adventist family, 00:21:44.93\00:21:49.34 average of the families 00:21:49.37\00:21:51.64 are trying for their daily foods. 00:21:51.67\00:21:57.45 So that it is very difficult to send their children 00:21:57.48\00:22:01.55 to the college and sponsor their children. 00:22:01.58\00:22:04.55 So when the children get sponsorship, 00:22:04.59\00:22:08.72 they continue to their education 00:22:08.76\00:22:12.49 and when they got the sponsorship, 00:22:12.53\00:22:19.20 they study and when they finish, 00:22:19.23\00:22:22.60 some can work in the denomination 00:22:22.64\00:22:25.21 and some work outside, and at the same time, 00:22:25.24\00:22:29.61 they can be a good witness and testimonies to other. 00:22:29.64\00:22:33.95 They can tell about the love of Jesus. 00:22:33.98\00:22:38.02 This was important for me, 00:22:38.05\00:22:39.95 the fact that Asian Aid was contributing 00:22:39.99\00:22:42.12 to the growth of the church in Myanmar, 00:22:42.16\00:22:44.56 a frontier mission field is good news. 00:22:44.59\00:22:48.03 As I mentioned earlier, 00:22:48.06\00:22:49.53 public evangelism in Myanmar is banned, 00:22:49.56\00:22:52.43 and so Asian Aid's involvement in our schools plays a key role 00:22:52.47\00:22:57.21 in the growth of the church. 00:22:57.24\00:22:59.91 I do believe that Asian Aid 00:22:59.94\00:23:01.38 is in tuned with the mission of the church. 00:23:01.41\00:23:04.45 The mission of the church is to prepare men and women, 00:23:04.48\00:23:07.52 and to prepare the people 00:23:07.55\00:23:09.75 that believe in God for soul winning. 00:23:09.78\00:23:13.19 And Asian Aid is offering that particular opportunity. 00:23:13.22\00:23:16.93 There are 100% in tune 00:23:16.96\00:23:20.13 with the mission of this church. 00:23:20.16\00:23:22.46 All right. Here she is. 00:23:22.50\00:23:27.34 Hi, there. It's nice to me you. 00:23:27.37\00:23:30.27 Nice to meet you. 00:23:30.31\00:23:31.64 I have heard a lot about this young lady. 00:23:31.67\00:23:33.74 She also has the interest in teaching. 00:23:42.82\00:23:45.15 Working here and also, it's a calling from God. 00:23:45.19\00:23:49.02 She felt that kind of calling from the Lord... 00:23:49.06\00:23:54.00 Okay. Fantastic. 00:23:54.03\00:23:56.13 Well, I shared with you 00:23:56.16\00:23:57.50 that we had a special story before the break, 00:23:57.53\00:24:00.40 and here she is Mia. 00:24:00.44\00:24:02.30 Mia is a recipient of our sponsorship program 00:24:02.34\00:24:06.17 through Asian Aid. 00:24:06.21\00:24:07.58 She was able to come to the school. 00:24:07.61\00:24:09.64 She finished her education 00:24:09.68\00:24:11.55 and she felt a calling from God to go into teaching, 00:24:11.58\00:24:15.68 and that's why she's here, 00:24:15.72\00:24:17.29 teaching these precious children. 00:24:17.32\00:24:19.79 This is what it's all about, this is the story of hope, 00:24:19.82\00:24:23.32 this is a story of Asian Aid, and you can be a part of that, 00:24:23.36\00:24:27.16 as we make it possible 00:24:27.20\00:24:28.53 for children to have an education, 00:24:28.56\00:24:31.53 come to know Jesus and share with the world. 00:24:31.57\00:24:36.81 Mia's real name is May Thuzar Tun, 00:24:36.84\00:24:40.51 but she preferred to be called Mia. 00:24:40.54\00:24:42.94 She is a 24-year-old 00:24:42.98\00:24:44.61 Bachelor of Arts graduate from the seminary. 00:24:44.65\00:24:48.02 Mia is a fine example 00:24:48.05\00:24:49.85 of what a simple gesture of sponsoring 00:24:49.88\00:24:52.09 a child's education can achieve. 00:24:52.12\00:24:55.26 It achieves far beyond its intended purpose 00:24:55.29\00:24:58.19 of providing a children's education. 00:24:58.23\00:25:00.26 It gives them hope for the future. 00:25:00.30\00:25:03.63 Meeting Mia that day also made me realize 00:25:03.67\00:25:07.04 that she was one of the lucky few. 00:25:07.07\00:25:09.50 Many children across Myanmar, 00:25:09.54\00:25:11.77 especially in rural areas do not have this opportunity. 00:25:11.81\00:25:16.81 Being in this place, 00:25:27.86\00:25:29.32 a Christian school in the heart of Myanmar, 00:25:29.36\00:25:33.06 reminds me of when I was a little boy. 00:25:33.09\00:25:36.16 You see, I lived in a communist country. 00:25:36.20\00:25:38.50 And it was impossible to have Christian schools there. 00:25:38.53\00:25:41.80 My parents dreamed of taking my sister and me 00:25:41.84\00:25:45.31 to a place where we should not only 00:25:45.34\00:25:48.21 be able to worship God freely, 00:25:48.24\00:25:50.08 but also have a Christian education. 00:25:50.11\00:25:52.55 Well, Asian Aid is making it possible 00:25:52.58\00:25:54.45 for hundreds of young people here in Myanmar 00:25:54.48\00:25:57.52 to have just that. 00:25:57.55\00:25:59.29 Would you consider partnering with us 00:25:59.32\00:26:01.66 to make a huge difference 00:26:01.69\00:26:03.16 in the life of a young person, 00:26:03.19\00:26:04.93 so that they can come to know Jesus, 00:26:04.96\00:26:07.33 have a Christian education and share His love with others? 00:26:07.36\00:26:12.40 I was encouraged 00:26:12.43\00:26:13.77 by Asian Aid's plans for Myanmar. 00:26:13.80\00:26:16.71 Asian Aid is an organization 00:26:16.74\00:26:18.27 that wants to make a significant contribution 00:26:18.31\00:26:21.11 in the lives of needy children. 00:26:21.14\00:26:23.35 Today, Asian Aid is making it possible 00:26:23.38\00:26:26.25 to give them this opportunity 00:26:26.28\00:26:28.75 to not just receive an education, 00:26:28.78\00:26:31.32 but an opportunity towards eternal life. 00:26:31.35\00:26:36.42 Children and their future are very important to me. 00:26:36.46\00:26:40.00 Those are things that are close to my heart. 00:26:40.03\00:26:42.16 And two years ago, Asian Aid invited me 00:26:42.20\00:26:45.00 to go on a life changing trip to India. 00:26:45.03\00:26:48.24 Well, this time, I have joined them 00:26:48.27\00:26:50.47 on a trip to Myanmar. 00:26:50.51\00:26:52.54 During our time here, 00:26:52.57\00:26:54.18 we have visited all kinds of interesting places. 00:26:54.21\00:26:57.08 We've been to pagodas. 00:26:57.11\00:26:58.68 We've also been to villages 00:26:58.71\00:27:00.88 where poverty is visible everywhere. 00:27:00.92\00:27:04.22 I've also been on the campus of some of our schools. 00:27:04.25\00:27:07.72 I had the opportunity to play 00:27:07.76\00:27:09.19 with a group of beautiful young ladies 00:27:09.22\00:27:11.09 who play the violin. 00:27:11.13\00:27:12.66 I am seeing these young people whose lives are being changed 00:27:12.69\00:27:17.20 because of the sponsorship program. 00:27:17.23\00:27:19.77 They have a Christian education, 00:27:19.80\00:27:21.64 they have hope and they will have a future. 00:27:21.67\00:27:24.21 In fact, I met a young lady 00:27:24.24\00:27:25.57 who is now the teacher at the preschool. 00:27:25.61\00:27:28.08 She went through our program, she was sponsored, 00:27:28.11\00:27:31.11 she graduated and now she is a teacher. 00:27:31.15\00:27:34.32 What a joy it is to be able to make an impact 00:27:34.35\00:27:37.59 in the lives of so many young people. 00:27:37.62\00:27:39.79 Would you be willing to partner with us? 00:27:39.82\00:27:41.99 Would you be willing to help change a life 00:27:42.02\00:27:44.26 and bring future and Jesus to a young person in Myanmar? 00:27:44.29\00:27:48.36
