Good morning. 00:01:40.56\00:01:42.00 Good to see you again. How are you? 00:01:42.03\00:01:44.10 Ladies. 00:01:44.13\00:01:47.64 Oh, thank you. 00:01:47.67\00:01:49.40 I'm Jim Rennie. 00:02:08.16\00:02:09.49 I'm for over the last eight years, 00:02:09.52\00:02:11.36 I've been CEO of Asian Aid USA. 00:02:11.39\00:02:14.86 Asian Aid was established over 50 years ago 00:02:14.90\00:02:18.13 and in that time has helped tens of thousands of children 00:02:18.17\00:02:21.80 in over five countries. 00:02:21.84\00:02:23.87 As a part of a bold new strategy, 00:02:23.91\00:02:26.94 we're changing our name. 00:02:26.98\00:02:28.84 We are now Child Impact International. 00:02:28.88\00:02:32.78 We feel our new name will better encompass 00:02:32.81\00:02:35.52 the work that we do. 00:02:35.55\00:02:37.09 Let me briefly explain what I mean. 00:02:37.12\00:02:40.26 This exciting new name Child Impact International 00:02:40.29\00:02:44.63 will give us momentum as we move forward to help 00:02:44.66\00:02:48.16 thousands of additional children. 00:02:48.20\00:02:50.87 As we work with our focus groups, 00:02:50.90\00:02:52.83 we felt Child Impact International 00:02:52.87\00:02:55.54 describes who we are and what we do 00:02:55.57\00:02:58.34 for the following reasons. 00:02:58.37\00:03:00.78 This name reflects 00:03:00.81\00:03:02.14 far more clearly the critical work 00:03:02.18\00:03:04.55 that we're doing with very needy students, 00:03:04.58\00:03:07.28 their families and mission schools. 00:03:07.32\00:03:09.95 Child Impact International gives momentum 00:03:09.98\00:03:12.59 and direction to a bold growth strategy 00:03:12.62\00:03:15.69 that will impact the lives of thousands 00:03:15.72\00:03:18.16 of additional children. 00:03:18.19\00:03:20.10 This name avoids any confusion in regards to where we work 00:03:20.13\00:03:24.43 and what people consider Asia. 00:03:24.47\00:03:27.57 This name gives a clear distinction 00:03:27.60\00:03:30.17 between this organization and Asian Aid Australia, 00:03:30.21\00:03:33.98 which are completely separate. 00:03:34.01\00:03:36.31 The name Child Impact International provides us 00:03:36.34\00:03:40.05 the opportunity to help more children 00:03:40.08\00:03:42.88 and expand our activity beyond Asia. 00:03:42.92\00:03:47.09 Internally, nothing will change, 00:03:47.12\00:03:49.59 the board, staff, policies, 00:03:49.62\00:03:52.09 and work we do will stay the same, 00:03:52.13\00:03:54.83 and at the same level of excellence 00:03:54.86\00:03:57.13 that we're known for. 00:03:57.17\00:03:58.70 We're staying in Collegedale, Tennessee. 00:03:58.73\00:04:01.47 Philosophically however, 00:04:01.50\00:04:03.07 the new name Child Impact International 00:04:03.10\00:04:06.68 will allow our organization to expand 00:04:06.71\00:04:09.74 and give momentum 00:04:09.78\00:04:11.18 to help thousands of new needy children. 00:04:11.21\00:04:14.25 You have an opportunity to be involved 00:04:20.79\00:04:22.86 in the mission field 00:04:22.89\00:04:24.23 every day, every morning with child sponsorship. 00:04:24.26\00:04:27.33 You can impact on the lives of children 00:04:27.36\00:04:29.93 just like these ones here. 00:04:29.96\00:04:31.90 You can help set their lives on a new course 00:04:31.93\00:04:34.70 and also give them hope 00:04:34.74\00:04:36.30 that can change their lives forever. 00:04:36.34\00:04:39.27 Our funds go directly to support the needs 00:04:39.31\00:04:42.18 of an Adventist mission school, 00:04:42.21\00:04:44.21 which heightens the quality of education 00:04:44.25\00:04:46.72 just not for the children who are sponsored, 00:04:46.75\00:04:49.25 but all the children in the school. 00:04:49.28\00:04:52.05 The reality is that poverty is very hard to change. 00:04:52.09\00:04:56.26 Child Impact International sponsorship program 00:04:56.29\00:04:59.89 takes the child based on need and puts them 00:04:59.93\00:05:02.60 in an Adventist mission school. 00:05:02.63\00:05:04.40 It gives them a direction, it gives them hope, 00:05:04.43\00:05:07.34 and also has an impact in the communities 00:05:07.37\00:05:10.64 and with their families and friends. 00:05:10.67\00:05:13.31 Together, you and I can have a huge change 00:05:13.34\00:05:17.28 on an entire community 00:05:17.31\00:05:19.31 just like the ones around the school. 00:05:19.35\00:05:22.62 For existing donors, the only change you'll see 00:05:22.65\00:05:26.02 is advancement in the communication 00:05:26.05\00:05:29.12 between your child and projects. 00:05:29.16\00:05:32.33 You'll see a real difference by using new technologies 00:05:32.36\00:05:36.13 to keep you up-to-date 00:05:36.16\00:05:37.70 on how you support Child Impact. 00:05:37.73\00:05:40.50 The work of Child Impact International 00:05:54.88\00:05:57.12 will continue to grow in the countries 00:05:57.15\00:05:59.59 we already operate in like India, 00:05:59.62\00:06:02.06 Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. 00:06:02.09\00:06:06.09 And as opportunities arise, 00:06:06.13\00:06:08.16 we will expand into other countries. 00:06:08.20\00:06:10.83 The poverty which you see in communities 00:06:10.87\00:06:13.40 like this is real. 00:06:13.44\00:06:15.20 These families struggle to feed and educate their children. 00:06:15.24\00:06:19.24 You can have an impact right here, 00:06:19.27\00:06:21.98 right now by becoming a sponsor of a child 00:06:22.01\00:06:25.21 or partnering with Child Impact. 00:06:25.25\00:06:27.72 Child Impact is a fully supportive ministry 00:06:27.75\00:06:30.62 of the Adventist church and supports children 00:06:30.65\00:06:33.86 and orphans and special needs children 00:06:33.89\00:06:36.73 in Adventist homes and mission schools. 00:06:36.76\00:06:39.93 Each child's life has changed 00:06:39.96\00:06:42.76 and the mission school gains unique funds. 00:06:42.80\00:06:46.43 You have an opportunity to be involved 00:06:46.47\00:06:48.77 in the mission field every day by becoming a sponsor 00:06:48.80\00:06:52.87 or a supporter of Child Impact International. 00:06:52.91\00:06:56.14 On my trip to India, 00:07:03.39\00:07:04.89 one of the highlights was the visit 00:07:04.92\00:07:07.19 to the blind school in a town called Bobbili. 00:07:07.22\00:07:10.63 The school is an Adventist church school, 00:07:10.66\00:07:13.29 but it is 100% funded by Child Impact 00:07:13.33\00:07:16.40 and Asian Aid Australia. 00:07:16.43\00:07:18.53 It was build just over 12 years ago, 00:07:18.57\00:07:21.10 thanks to the generosity of the McNeilus family. 00:07:21.14\00:07:24.21 And it is in the rural setting surrounded by lots of farms. 00:07:24.24\00:07:29.04 The school has over 160 students 00:07:29.08\00:07:31.55 from grade 1 to grade 12. 00:07:31.58\00:07:34.88 The students are either partially blind 00:07:34.92\00:07:37.15 or fully blind, 00:07:37.19\00:07:38.82 and come mainly 00:07:38.85\00:07:40.39 from poor farming communities all around. 00:07:40.42\00:07:43.89 When we arrived, 00:07:43.93\00:07:45.39 they gave us an amazing welcome. 00:07:45.43\00:07:48.16 They lined up on both sides, 00:07:48.20\00:07:50.73 they threw flowers on the road and we walked through, 00:07:50.77\00:07:54.30 and then we had to shake 00:07:54.34\00:07:55.74 the hand of every single student. 00:07:55.77\00:07:58.41 They asked us questions, they touched us, 00:07:58.44\00:08:01.18 because they wanted to know what we were all about. 00:08:01.21\00:08:05.01 I was really moved 00:08:05.05\00:08:06.38 by the excitement that I saw in them. 00:08:06.41\00:08:08.65 They were genuinely interested in us. 00:08:08.68\00:08:12.05 We shared a beautiful evening that night, we had a concert. 00:08:12.09\00:08:16.02 Some of them played instruments and then I did a part for them. 00:08:16.06\00:08:20.83 I talked to them and I played my violin. 00:08:20.86\00:08:23.80 I don't think many 00:08:23.83\00:08:25.20 or most of them had ever heard a violin before. 00:08:25.23\00:08:28.90 So it was really exciting. 00:08:28.94\00:08:30.77 There were two things that I remember in particular. 00:08:30.81\00:08:33.88 Number one, they listened intently 00:08:33.91\00:08:37.28 and then when they knew the songs, 00:08:37.31\00:08:39.21 they sang at the top of their lungs. 00:08:39.25\00:08:42.12 Number two, they clapped so hard 00:08:42.15\00:08:45.42 when every song was over. 00:08:45.45\00:08:47.52 It was a beautiful experience. It is a marvelous place. 00:08:47.56\00:08:52.16 The facilities are great. 00:08:52.19\00:08:54.06 The classrooms are expansive and they are large, 00:08:54.10\00:08:57.57 but there are still some serious needs. 00:08:57.60\00:09:00.40 I'm delighted to have Jim Rennie, 00:09:00.44\00:09:01.77 the CEO of Child Impact here again today. 00:09:01.80\00:09:04.97 Jim, why is this school so important? 00:09:05.01\00:09:09.34 Well, first of all, Jaime, 00:09:09.38\00:09:10.71 it's one of my favorite schools to visit in India. 00:09:10.75\00:09:13.58 The kids just are so hungry to talk to you to, 00:09:13.62\00:09:17.65 to find out about you and they touch you, 00:09:17.69\00:09:20.86 of course, because of they can't see... 00:09:20.89\00:09:22.66 They want to feel you, yes. They want to feel and see you. 00:09:22.69\00:09:26.63 This school is important 00:09:26.66\00:09:28.23 because it fulfills a need that no one else is delivering 00:09:28.26\00:09:33.34 in that region of India. 00:09:33.37\00:09:35.90 First of all, these kids come from very, very poor, 00:09:35.94\00:09:40.18 mainly farming families. 00:09:40.21\00:09:42.91 And when you're born blind 00:09:42.94\00:09:45.38 in a village in that part of India, 00:09:45.41\00:09:48.82 there's no way to go. 00:09:48.85\00:09:50.42 The parents have no idea what to do. 00:09:50.45\00:09:53.25 There's an element of shame in having a blind child. 00:09:53.29\00:09:57.29 And so, this school fulfills the need, 00:09:57.33\00:10:01.76 and I've seen so many of the parents 00:10:01.80\00:10:04.27 of the blind children are so proud 00:10:04.30\00:10:08.87 that their child is getting an education. 00:10:08.90\00:10:12.11 And I went to the blind school one day 00:10:12.14\00:10:15.61 and there was a seven-year-old girl there, 00:10:15.64\00:10:18.65 and she had just come to the school 00:10:18.68\00:10:21.38 and to be honest, it was distressing. 00:10:21.42\00:10:24.25 She couldn't talk, her head was down, 00:10:24.29\00:10:27.59 she would sit in the corner, it was just terrible. 00:10:27.62\00:10:32.36 And I had found her at her house 00:10:32.39\00:10:35.90 and she had been locked in her room 00:10:35.93\00:10:38.30 for three to four years. 00:10:38.33\00:10:40.34 The parents were just so embarrassed 00:10:40.37\00:10:42.74 and didn't know what to do. 00:10:42.77\00:10:44.81 But the exciting thing was, 00:10:44.84\00:10:46.51 when I went back 00:10:46.54\00:10:47.88 to the blind school a year later, 00:10:47.91\00:10:50.18 I just about came to tears 00:10:50.21\00:10:52.55 because here she was... 00:10:52.58\00:10:54.42 She was playing with the children. 00:10:54.45\00:10:56.75 I saw her singing, 00:10:56.79\00:10:58.45 I saw her praying, just amazing change. 00:10:58.49\00:11:03.26 It was all there, 00:11:03.29\00:11:04.73 but she had no way of letting it out. 00:11:04.76\00:11:07.30 So this school makes 00:11:07.33\00:11:08.66 a huge difference with blind children, 00:11:08.70\00:11:12.13 but the need is just overpowering 00:11:12.17\00:11:15.04 from the environment in which they come. 00:11:15.07\00:11:18.67 Yes. 00:11:18.71\00:11:20.04 And even though it is a beautiful facility 00:11:20.08\00:11:22.34 as I've mentioned, 00:11:22.38\00:11:24.01 what are the needs that we currently have there? 00:11:24.05\00:11:28.05 Well, we always have special needs children, 00:11:28.08\00:11:30.95 blind children that need sponsorship, 00:11:30.99\00:11:33.79 but if you can't sponsor a child, 00:11:33.82\00:11:36.93 you can make a donation to the blind school, 00:11:36.96\00:11:39.59 it has a separate fund. 00:11:39.63\00:11:41.80 It's very costly to run the school. 00:11:41.83\00:11:44.43 And these children have exactly what it says special needs. 00:11:44.47\00:11:49.80 So you can either sponsor a child, 00:11:49.84\00:11:52.94 or you can support the blind school fund. 00:11:52.97\00:11:56.11 Okay. 00:11:56.14\00:11:57.51 Now Child Impact also operates and funds a deaf school. 00:11:57.55\00:12:02.72 Can you tell me a little bit about that 00:12:02.75\00:12:04.09 because I haven't been there? 00:12:04.12\00:12:05.99 Well, this is located in southern India, 00:12:06.02\00:12:09.06 south of the city of Bangalore and a city called Kollegal, 00:12:09.09\00:12:13.13 it has just over 95 students. 00:12:13.16\00:12:16.16 Once again, it's a boarding school. 00:12:16.20\00:12:18.77 It's an Adventist mission school 00:12:18.80\00:12:21.40 and the children come from similar backgrounds 00:12:21.44\00:12:24.74 to the children at the blind school, 00:12:24.77\00:12:26.91 very rural community. 00:12:26.94\00:12:28.88 And once again, when a child is born deaf, 00:12:28.91\00:12:31.65 the parents simply don't know what to do. 00:12:31.68\00:12:34.32 They don't know what sign language is? 00:12:34.35\00:12:36.55 It's an embarrassment and so, these children are given hope. 00:12:36.58\00:12:41.09 And once again, you go there 00:12:41.12\00:12:42.96 and you see them singing with sign language, 00:12:42.99\00:12:46.39 and it's just a school that's having a huge impact. 00:12:46.43\00:12:52.97 One hundred and sixty blind children 00:12:53.00\00:12:55.90 and over 95 deaf children 00:12:55.94\00:12:58.61 are getting opportunities to do things 00:12:58.64\00:13:00.68 that they'll never do otherwise 00:13:00.71\00:13:02.94 and that's thanks to your generosity. 00:13:02.98\00:13:05.61 We thank you and we ask for you to continue 00:13:05.65\00:13:09.48 to be a part of Child Impact to reach these 00:13:09.52\00:13:12.45 and many other young people in there. 00:13:12.49\00:13:14.39 I'm Shawn Boonstra, 00:13:18.26\00:13:19.59 Speaker/Director for the Voice of Prophecy, 00:13:19.63\00:13:22.13 and I've been involved with Asian Aid for many years. 00:13:22.16\00:13:25.43 I'm excited 00:13:25.47\00:13:26.80 that they are growing and helping 00:13:26.84\00:13:28.17 more children in need 00:13:28.20\00:13:29.54 and very excited with their new name, 00:13:29.57\00:13:31.87 Child Impact International. 00:13:31.91\00:13:34.74 Voice of Prophecy continues to partner with Child Impact, 00:13:34.78\00:13:37.85 both in rescuing girls from trafficking in India 00:13:37.88\00:13:40.98 and with outreach in Myanmar. 00:13:41.02\00:13:43.25 My family continues to sponsor Sheela, 00:13:43.28\00:13:45.85 the young lady we sponsored in India. 00:13:45.89\00:13:48.96 Child Impact International is going to have a big impact 00:13:48.99\00:13:52.46 on the lives of thousands of children 00:13:52.49\00:13:54.43 in Adventist mission schools and other projects, 00:13:54.46\00:13:57.90 and we at Voice of Prophecy 00:13:57.93\00:13:59.73 are really excited to be a partner. 00:13:59.77\00:14:01.94 Our television series Hope in Motion 00:14:07.94\00:14:10.55 has been a big success. 00:14:10.58\00:14:12.51 And we want to continue to share with you 00:14:12.55\00:14:15.12 some of the field stories 00:14:15.15\00:14:16.89 that we have filmed over the years. 00:14:16.92\00:14:19.25 So just from time to time, it may refer to Asian Aid 00:14:19.29\00:14:23.56 as we reflect on these great stories 00:14:23.59\00:14:26.59 as we share them with you. 00:14:26.63\00:14:28.03 Bobbili, a small town 00:14:45.21\00:14:46.98 near the costal city of Vizag in India 00:14:47.02\00:14:49.35 has nothing to offer to a visitor. 00:14:49.38\00:14:51.62 Its streets often bustling 00:14:51.65\00:14:53.29 and chaotic are typical of rural towns in India. 00:14:53.32\00:14:56.12 Poverty is widespread 00:15:00.26\00:15:01.93 and people struggle to meet ends, 00:15:01.96\00:15:03.83 doing menial jobs and often attending 00:15:03.87\00:15:05.87 to paddy fields owned by landlords. 00:15:05.90\00:15:08.90 Visits to villages around here only amplify once perception 00:15:08.94\00:15:12.41 of abstract poverty people live in on a daily basis. 00:15:12.44\00:15:16.95 But it is in this despairing and gloomy environment, 00:15:16.98\00:15:19.91 we often get to see 00:15:19.95\00:15:21.28 and experience hopefulness and optimism. 00:15:21.32\00:15:25.62 Over the last 15 years, Child Impact International 00:15:25.65\00:15:28.92 has undertaken numerous developmental work 00:15:28.96\00:15:31.43 in and around the Bobbili area. 00:15:31.46\00:15:33.19 It has supported schools through its sponsorship program 00:15:33.23\00:15:36.13 and built a school for the blind. 00:15:36.16\00:15:39.57 One of its recent projects is the construction 00:15:39.60\00:15:42.04 of a brand new orphanage in Karada village, 00:15:42.07\00:15:44.71 the Sunrise Children Home. 00:15:44.74\00:15:46.21 From its humble beginning in a cramped building in town, 00:15:54.75\00:15:57.82 the orphanage has shifted to a spacious campus 00:15:57.85\00:16:00.39 in the countryside, 00:16:00.42\00:16:01.92 situated about 10 miles from Bobbili. 00:16:01.96\00:16:04.53 The new campus gives the children 00:16:04.56\00:16:06.26 an ideal place to live, learn, and play. 00:16:06.29\00:16:09.16 How many of you like this room? Okay. 00:16:12.83\00:16:16.91 So you want to sleep here? Yes. 00:16:16.94\00:16:20.44 You know, it's taken time to build the new orphanage 00:16:33.72\00:16:37.23 and the children have been brought 00:16:37.26\00:16:38.59 along the journey. 00:16:38.63\00:16:39.96 So they were given an idea 00:16:40.00\00:16:41.33 that you're going to have a better home. 00:16:41.36\00:16:43.23 It's like asking, you're going to go to heaven 00:16:43.26\00:16:45.27 and we've got a better home. 00:16:45.30\00:16:46.80 So they had this idea of having a better home 00:16:46.84\00:16:49.80 and they've been asking questions 00:16:49.84\00:16:51.41 as this whole thing was in progress, 00:16:51.44\00:16:53.74 and now they have it and they are just so excited. 00:16:53.78\00:16:56.68 It is such a wonderful place to go 00:16:56.71\00:16:58.81 from such a cramped environment 00:16:58.85\00:17:01.28 to such an expansive free environment. 00:17:01.32\00:17:05.85 The children still attend 00:17:15.76\00:17:17.10 the Seventh-day Adventist school in town. 00:17:17.13\00:17:19.43 But Sunrise Home has its own bus 00:17:19.47\00:17:21.37 that takes them to school every day. 00:17:21.40\00:17:23.41 And the bus ride is something 00:17:23.44\00:17:24.77 that children look forward to every morning. 00:17:24.81\00:17:26.68 August 2nd, 2014 was a special day 00:17:32.51\00:17:35.52 for Child Impact International and everyone at Sunrise Home, 00:17:35.55\00:17:39.29 a new boys' dorm was inaugurated by renowned 00:17:39.32\00:17:41.92 Adventist violinist, Jaime Jorge. 00:17:41.96\00:17:45.09 It was very emotional for me to be here 00:17:45.13\00:17:47.83 at the opening of the boys' dormitory. 00:17:47.86\00:17:50.70 It was just so great that Jamie Jorge 00:17:50.73\00:17:52.87 could be here to do the dedication and arguably 00:17:52.90\00:17:56.24 we could say it's the end of the project, but it's not. 00:17:56.27\00:18:00.21 Yes, the donors have build a great facility, 00:18:00.24\00:18:04.01 but the ongoing need for orphans in this home, 00:18:04.05\00:18:07.68 the ongoing operating needs, 00:18:07.72\00:18:09.92 the ongoing needs to sponsorship 00:18:09.95\00:18:12.75 simply means it's not over. 00:18:12.79\00:18:14.79 Although there is ongoing need for sponsorship 00:18:18.69\00:18:21.06 and other needs at Sunrise Home, 00:18:21.10\00:18:22.90 it is encouraging knowing that this facility 00:18:22.93\00:18:25.20 has the capability to double 00:18:25.23\00:18:26.80 the number of children and in the future, 00:18:26.84\00:18:28.87 there is facility to build another floor, 00:18:28.90\00:18:31.11 thereby having the capacity to facilitate 00:18:31.14\00:18:33.71 the ever increasing inflow 00:18:33.74\00:18:35.24 of children arriving at Sunrise Home each year. 00:18:35.28\00:18:38.45 In my union, 00:18:38.48\00:18:40.32 we have 850,000 members 00:18:40.35\00:18:45.72 and there are hundreds of needs in this union, 00:18:45.75\00:18:48.29 especially there are orphan children, 00:18:48.32\00:18:50.56 there are semi-orphan children, 00:18:50.59\00:18:52.16 and therefore we really face challenge. 00:18:52.19\00:18:53.96 Today, expanding and adding 00:18:54.00\00:18:55.46 these facilities in the boys' hostel 00:18:55.50\00:18:57.27 will really be a great blessing 00:18:57.30\00:18:58.77 because these children are adjusting somewhere 00:18:58.80\00:19:00.77 and they don't have proper facilities. 00:19:00.80\00:19:02.54 They want to feel with their friends 00:19:02.57\00:19:04.71 as if it is their own home 00:19:04.74\00:19:06.54 and this will be a unique identity 00:19:06.57\00:19:07.98 that will build confidence in them, 00:19:08.01\00:19:09.64 and they will really develop in the proper way 00:19:09.68\00:19:11.88 in the Adventist atmosphere. 00:19:11.91\00:19:13.42 Twelve-year-old Durga Prasad 00:19:39.31\00:19:41.24 and his eleven-year-old brother Rajesh 00:19:41.28\00:19:43.48 came to Sunrise Home three years ago. 00:19:43.51\00:19:45.58 They were rescued 00:19:45.61\00:19:46.95 from the streets by a local NGO Childline, 00:19:46.98\00:19:49.75 after a newspaper article appeared in a local daily 00:19:49.78\00:19:52.52 with the title "mother for sale." 00:19:52.55\00:19:54.86 Childline immediately followed up the story 00:19:54.89\00:19:57.66 with the concerned people 00:19:57.69\00:19:59.03 and rescued the boys and took them in their custody. 00:19:59.06\00:20:04.23 After we brought them here, 00:20:04.27\00:20:06.03 we came to know that their father died 00:20:06.07\00:20:08.54 and the mother found another man, 00:20:08.57\00:20:10.67 and she moved in with him. 00:20:10.71\00:20:12.77 But he forced her into prostitution 00:20:12.81\00:20:15.58 and forced the boys on to the streets to beg 00:20:15.61\00:20:18.21 and sell newspaper and fruits. 00:20:18.25\00:20:20.68 He used that money, drinking and gambling. 00:20:20.72\00:20:23.35 Durga Prasad and Rajesh woke up every day 00:20:33.96\00:20:37.13 to the blaring sound of train horns 00:20:37.17\00:20:39.23 or the screeching halt of its iron wheels. 00:20:39.27\00:20:41.74 The buzz and hustle of the street 00:20:41.77\00:20:43.41 near the train station at Vizianagaram 00:20:43.44\00:20:45.81 was their domain 00:20:45.84\00:20:47.18 and the railway platform their shelter. 00:20:47.21\00:20:49.34 The boys were forced to go and beg 00:20:49.38\00:20:51.48 or steal by their mother's boyfriend, 00:20:51.51\00:20:53.58 and when they refused, they were beaten. 00:20:53.62\00:20:55.98 Fearing the beatings that awaited them at home, 00:20:56.02\00:20:58.25 they spend most of their time living on the railway platform, 00:20:58.29\00:21:01.42 earning some money selling fruits or begging. 00:21:01.46\00:21:04.09 After they were rescued 00:21:04.13\00:21:05.46 and taken into custody by Childline, 00:21:05.49\00:21:07.53 Durga Prasad and Rajesh were brought to Sunrise Home. 00:21:07.56\00:21:10.47 I'm from Bobbili town and I used to live very close 00:21:14.14\00:21:17.24 to where the old Sunrise Home was. 00:21:17.27\00:21:20.28 Then I informed by superiors about it 00:21:20.31\00:21:23.21 and recommended these two boys to Sunrise Home. 00:21:23.24\00:21:27.85 Sunrise Home is highly regarded 00:21:27.88\00:21:29.95 throughout the district for its work 00:21:29.98\00:21:31.65 with the shelter it provides to orphaned 00:21:31.69\00:21:33.66 and abandoned children like Durga Prasad and Rajesh. 00:21:33.69\00:21:37.19 Most of the children are coming to Sunrise Home recommended 00:21:37.23\00:21:40.40 by police department, 00:21:40.43\00:21:43.16 and non-governmental organizations, 00:21:43.20\00:21:45.80 and the Childline, and rescued children, 00:21:45.83\00:21:49.40 most of them are here the rescued children. 00:21:49.44\00:21:53.21 In this whole of the Vizianagaram district, 00:21:53.24\00:21:55.61 only this home is best home 00:21:55.64\00:21:58.11 and the government will recommend 00:21:58.15\00:21:59.61 all the children to stay here only. 00:21:59.65\00:22:02.38 Okay. Wow. 00:22:02.42\00:22:04.95 At our homes like Sunrise, we have children 00:22:04.99\00:22:07.76 from varied backgrounds, varied stories, 00:22:07.79\00:22:10.76 and honest some of them are hard to comprehend, 00:22:10.79\00:22:13.83 and just like these two boys 00:22:13.86\00:22:15.36 who were found on a railway platform 00:22:15.40\00:22:18.53 at the train station, could you imagine it, 00:22:18.57\00:22:21.34 could you imagine living 00:22:21.37\00:22:22.70 there having to scrape up an existence? 00:22:22.74\00:22:25.97 They were exploited by many people 00:22:26.01\00:22:28.58 and they had no hope. 00:22:28.61\00:22:30.78 Now, at least they have come to Sunrise Home 00:22:30.81\00:22:33.68 where they have a new direction, 00:22:33.72\00:22:37.19 and now they have hope of an education, 00:22:37.22\00:22:40.12 they have a hope of the future, 00:22:40.16\00:22:42.16 and the Asian Aid sponsorship program 00:22:42.19\00:22:44.89 will have a big difference in their lives. 00:22:44.93\00:22:48.96 Durga Prasad and Rajesh are in a place 00:22:49.00\00:22:50.97 where they can leave 00:22:51.00\00:22:52.33 behind the fear of being beaten and exploited, 00:22:52.37\00:22:54.97 leave behind the struggles of growing up in the streets 00:22:55.00\00:22:57.91 and instead are in a safe and comfortable place, 00:22:57.94\00:23:01.08 a place where they don't feel like 00:23:01.11\00:23:02.54 they're orphan or abandoned. 00:23:02.58\00:23:04.41 So by having an orphanage, we can access these children 00:23:04.45\00:23:07.18 who really won't have the basics in life, 00:23:07.22\00:23:09.72 who now can have the basics in life to go forward. 00:23:09.75\00:23:13.59 So that's what orphanage is doing. 00:23:13.62\00:23:15.32 They get the children who really need help 00:23:15.36\00:23:18.39 and don't have anyone to help them. 00:23:18.43\00:23:22.50 Child Impact is giving them that help. 00:23:22.53\00:23:24.80 Child Impact is giving them that new life 00:23:24.83\00:23:27.54 through its special need schools, 00:23:27.57\00:23:29.20 at an orphanage like Sunrise Home, 00:23:29.24\00:23:31.11 and is giving them an opportunity 00:23:31.14\00:23:32.84 to receive a proper education. 00:23:32.87\00:23:34.94 One of the great blessing is 00:23:34.98\00:23:36.85 that we cannot do everything by on our own 00:23:36.88\00:23:39.21 because of certain reasons. 00:23:39.25\00:23:40.95 I thank God for special organizations 00:23:40.98\00:23:44.35 like Asian Aid. 00:23:44.39\00:23:45.72 They are uniquely tuned to meet exactly our needs, 00:23:45.75\00:23:50.13 where we really need, 00:23:50.16\00:23:51.49 especially we need next generation 00:23:51.53\00:23:53.70 to be prepared for the church work 00:23:53.73\00:23:55.66 and these children 00:23:55.70\00:23:57.03 who are trained up in the homes and with their help, 00:23:57.07\00:23:59.97 with their support, we educate our poor children, 00:24:00.00\00:24:02.60 they're the next generation, 00:24:02.64\00:24:04.07 faithful workers for the church. 00:24:04.11\00:24:06.24 And it is really transforming. 00:24:06.27\00:24:07.64 I really thank God, 00:24:07.68\00:24:09.01 every sponsor that is supporting this work, 00:24:09.04\00:24:11.38 every leader in this organization, 00:24:11.41\00:24:13.38 they are really doing the work with dedication and commitment. 00:24:13.42\00:24:17.15 They reach unto us, they openly talk their ideas 00:24:17.19\00:24:20.09 and we tell our needs, and they really fit in. 00:24:20.12\00:24:22.96 I'm proud of this important organization, 00:24:22.99\00:24:25.19 and they are truly beneficial 00:24:25.23\00:24:26.56 to my union here in East Central India. 00:24:26.59\00:24:29.96 It was painful for us to learn 00:24:30.00\00:24:31.47 that the boys' mother is still making her living 00:24:31.50\00:24:33.57 through prostitution 00:24:33.60\00:24:34.94 and does not know the whereabouts of her sons. 00:24:34.97\00:24:37.27 Taking the children away 00:24:37.31\00:24:38.64 from the mother may sound cruel and callous, 00:24:38.67\00:24:41.11 but extraordinary circumstances call 00:24:41.14\00:24:43.31 for extraordinary measures for the welfare 00:24:43.35\00:24:45.78 and the future of the children. 00:24:45.81\00:24:47.95 Like Rajesh and Durga Prasad, there are so many children 00:24:47.98\00:24:50.92 who are having very bad family backgrounds. 00:24:50.95\00:24:54.79 Sunrise Home is giving them good directions in their lives. 00:24:54.82\00:25:00.60 Today, Child Impact International 00:25:00.63\00:25:02.73 is reaching out to children in need. 00:25:02.76\00:25:04.83 And Sunrise Home is a safe haven 00:25:04.87\00:25:06.97 for these children, 00:25:07.00\00:25:08.34 providing not just their basic needs 00:25:08.37\00:25:10.07 and an opportunity for an education, 00:25:10.11\00:25:12.17 but giving them parental love and affection, 00:25:12.21\00:25:14.64 the chance and hope for a brighter future. 00:25:14.68\00:25:17.08 A couple of years ago, my daughters and I had 00:25:40.94\00:25:43.24 a wonderful opportunity to travel to India, 00:25:43.27\00:25:46.31 and while we were there, 00:25:46.34\00:25:47.68 we met yet another part of our family 00:25:47.71\00:25:49.84 and that's our sponsored daughter, Sheela. 00:25:49.88\00:25:52.41 We had the privilege of sponsoring Sheela 00:25:52.45\00:25:54.88 through Child Impact International 00:25:54.92\00:25:57.12 for more than three years now. 00:25:57.15\00:25:59.49 And you know, while we were there, 00:25:59.52\00:26:01.36 she shared with us 00:26:01.39\00:26:02.72 that her dream was to become a nurse. 00:26:02.76\00:26:05.79 Now, what a wonderful privilege it is for us now 00:26:05.83\00:26:09.10 as a family to know 00:26:09.13\00:26:10.97 that she is fulfilling that dream. 00:26:11.00\00:26:13.70 Sheela is now studying to be a nurse. 00:26:13.74\00:26:16.44 She is in college 00:26:16.47\00:26:17.81 and we could not be happier for her. 00:26:17.84\00:26:20.11 It's been wonderful to be part of that journey with her. 00:26:20.14\00:26:23.51 And you know, sponsoring a child 00:26:23.55\00:26:25.45 through Child Impact, 00:26:25.48\00:26:26.92 it's made an incredible difference 00:26:26.95\00:26:28.55 for our family. 00:26:28.58\00:26:30.05 And I know that for you sponsoring a child 00:26:30.09\00:26:32.12 can make a difference for you too. 00:26:32.15\00:26:34.29 And most importantly, it can make the difference 00:26:34.32\00:26:36.62 in the life of a child every day. 00:26:36.66\00:26:39.03
