00:03:32.91\00:03:35.28 Well, Jean, it's lovely to meet you again. 00:03:35.31\00:03:38.21 As the name suggests, Operation Rescue 00:03:38.25\00:03:40.35 is about rescuing women, children, babies, 00:03:40.38\00:03:44.39 who have been subjected to the worst kind of abuse 00:03:44.42\00:03:47.26 and who have been trafficked for different reasons. 00:03:47.29\00:03:50.86 It could be 00:03:50.89\00:03:52.23 children who are being forced to beg on the streets 00:03:52.26\00:03:54.63 or it could children who are being forced to work 00:03:54.66\00:03:57.23 in hazardous industries like bag manufacturing, 00:03:57.27\00:04:02.10 basically working long hours and against their will 00:04:02.14\00:04:06.34 or it could girls and women 00:04:06.37\00:04:08.01 who are trafficked to the worst of the brothels, 00:04:08.04\00:04:11.18 locked inside and forced to see customers 00:04:11.21\00:04:14.02 every day against their will. 00:04:14.05\00:04:17.55 And this, this is a global issue, 00:04:17.59\00:04:19.75 but you are headquartered in Bangalore, India. 00:04:19.79\00:04:24.23 Tell me how long have you being doing this work yourself 00:04:24.26\00:04:26.29 personally? 00:04:26.33\00:04:27.66 Well, it started about 10 years ago, 00:04:27.70\00:04:29.50 so 10 years is a good time to say, 00:04:29.53\00:04:31.80 I have been doing this work. 00:04:31.83\00:04:33.97 We started off basically 00:04:34.00\00:04:35.50 looking at the whole issue of trafficking 00:04:35.54\00:04:38.61 and whether it existed in Bangalore 00:04:38.64\00:04:41.14 and what were children being trafficked for 00:04:41.18\00:04:44.25 and we've ended up now doing rescues with the police 00:04:44.28\00:04:48.35 and finding rehabilitation options 00:04:48.38\00:04:51.15 for those whom we rescue. 00:04:51.19\00:04:53.09 We also do a little bit of prevention 00:04:53.12\00:04:55.69 in areas where we find more children going missing 00:04:55.72\00:04:58.43 or more girls being recruited for jobs 00:04:58.46\00:05:01.66 to prevent that from happening. 00:05:01.70\00:05:05.13 You know, it's hard to hear the stories 00:05:05.17\00:05:08.07 of what you are doing, because you are dealing 00:05:08.10\00:05:10.37 with some really, really sad situations. 00:05:10.41\00:05:13.84 Children are in danger, young women are in danger. 00:05:13.88\00:05:17.38 Let's talk for a minute about the young girls. 00:05:17.41\00:05:20.15 They are recruited from rural areas typically. 00:05:20.18\00:05:23.35 Tell us a little bit about how do they get recruited 00:05:23.39\00:05:26.02 and what age are these girls? 00:05:26.05\00:05:28.09 Well, when we first started work 00:05:28.12\00:05:30.19 and when we first started rescues the girls were, 00:05:30.23\00:05:32.86 the average age was about 17, 00:05:32.89\00:05:36.20 but today the girls are much younger 00:05:36.23\00:05:38.90 and the average age is close to 14. 00:05:38.93\00:05:42.54 So, you know, really young girls being recruited 00:05:42.57\00:05:47.08 out of schools even. 00:05:47.11\00:05:48.91 You asked me about why they get recruited. 00:05:48.94\00:05:51.91 Well, it's a combination of a number of factors, 00:05:51.95\00:05:55.35 poverty being the number one factor 00:05:55.38\00:05:58.35 that makes them vulnerable to this. 00:05:58.39\00:06:00.16 So they are very poor, 00:06:00.19\00:06:02.52 they don't know about the issue of trafficking. 00:06:02.56\00:06:06.29 Usually, they don't have a skill 00:06:06.33\00:06:07.86 and so they can't get jobs or they're in school, 00:06:07.90\00:06:11.40 but dropout for different reasons 00:06:11.43\00:06:13.54 either to look after a sibling or a parent not being well 00:06:13.57\00:06:17.27 or the school just not being important enough for them 00:06:17.31\00:06:21.48 to complete education. 00:06:21.51\00:06:22.84 And so they're pulled out of school to get married. 00:06:22.88\00:06:25.58 And it's at this time 00:06:25.61\00:06:27.05 that the traffickers prey on these vulnerabilities. 00:06:27.08\00:06:30.35 You know, the girl is at home 00:06:30.39\00:06:31.92 or the girl is looking for a job 00:06:31.95\00:06:34.86 or the girl just wants to get out of this poverty situation. 00:06:34.89\00:06:38.59 And they prey on this 00:06:38.63\00:06:39.96 and will go in and recruit them. 00:06:40.00\00:06:42.00 Sometimes they send in people 00:06:42.03\00:06:43.97 and, you know, fall in love with them 00:06:44.00\00:06:45.87 and promise a better life, to marry them. 00:06:45.90\00:06:49.20 Sometimes they offer them jobs. 00:06:49.24\00:06:50.91 They will come in and say, "We will get you a job. " 00:06:50.94\00:06:54.48 And because they're naive 00:06:54.51\00:06:56.91 and have no knowledge of what this is, 00:06:56.95\00:06:59.61 they will go with them. 00:06:59.65\00:07:00.98 But of course the job doesn't exist on the other side 00:07:01.02\00:07:03.25 or it exists in a much, much worse way 00:07:03.28\00:07:05.05 than they would have ever thought. 00:07:05.09\00:07:07.22 And sometimes when they take babies, 00:07:07.26\00:07:10.36 they kidnap them. 00:07:10.39\00:07:11.73 So the younger children- 00:07:11.76\00:07:13.19 So just snatched from their mothers or their homes? 00:07:13.23\00:07:16.10 Yes, snatched from hospitals even. 00:07:16.13\00:07:17.47 Wow. 00:07:17.50\00:07:18.83 You know, they've taken babies, kidnap babies from hospitals 00:07:18.87\00:07:21.04 or they take babies from orphanages 00:07:21.07\00:07:25.37 or young children 00:07:25.41\00:07:26.74 and they will send them to the begging syndicates. 00:07:26.78\00:07:29.14 Okay. 00:07:29.18\00:07:30.51 They'll put these children out on the street 00:07:30.55\00:07:32.55 and they have to bring in 00:07:32.58\00:07:33.92 certain amount of money every day. 00:07:33.95\00:07:37.12 So these young girls are willing to take 00:07:37.15\00:07:40.52 sort of a risk because they're vulnerable, 00:07:40.56\00:07:43.39 they're little naive to the danger, 00:07:43.43\00:07:46.26 they're looking to help their family 00:07:46.29\00:07:48.66 or to support themselves, a number of factors. 00:07:48.70\00:07:52.40 As you go in 00:07:52.43\00:07:53.77 and you actually rescue girls from these brothels, 00:07:53.80\00:07:56.97 just walk us through a little bit 00:07:57.01\00:07:58.64 how that process works? 00:07:58.67\00:08:03.08 I have learned over the years not to breakdown, 00:08:03.11\00:08:07.18 to react in the right ways. 00:08:07.22\00:08:09.38 My first time inside a brothel, I was terrified 00:08:09.42\00:08:12.22 because I didn't expect what we saw. 00:08:12.25\00:08:15.02 You know, usually these places are-- 00:08:15.06\00:08:17.46 They select places that are easy hiding places, 00:08:17.49\00:08:21.73 so you have number of rooms inside a main entrance. 00:08:21.76\00:08:25.20 If it's a house or a building, it will have a number of rooms 00:08:25.23\00:08:28.94 and individual rooms that are used for commercial sex. 00:08:28.97\00:08:34.21 So when we enter these places, 00:08:34.24\00:08:35.81 we often have to bust the front door 00:08:35.84\00:08:38.18 or we have to enter in without them knowing it 00:08:38.21\00:08:41.58 so they're not alerted to it. 00:08:41.62\00:08:42.95 Okay. 00:08:42.98\00:08:44.32 We usually have a team of about 10 or 12 00:08:44.35\00:08:46.89 including a few police. 00:08:46.92\00:08:49.32 We run inside the place, 00:08:49.36\00:08:50.69 we're always looking to grab the girls 00:08:50.73\00:08:52.83 before they are hidden 00:08:52.86\00:08:54.20 or before they are forced into some hiding place. 00:08:54.23\00:08:57.73 So surprise is key? 00:08:57.77\00:08:59.73 Surprise is key, safety for ourselves, 00:08:59.77\00:09:03.41 while looking out for an escape root 00:09:03.44\00:09:05.97 in case something goes wrong 00:09:06.01\00:09:08.14 and we all are just stuck inside that place. 00:09:08.18\00:09:11.55 The girls themselves are taken by surprise. 00:09:11.58\00:09:15.35 Often times they are scared, they will cry. 00:09:15.38\00:09:18.25 There is a lot of drama that happens inside, 00:09:18.29\00:09:21.29 that the police are shouting, 00:09:21.32\00:09:22.66 the traffickers are trying to get out, escape, 00:09:22.69\00:09:25.09 you know, they're trying to jump out of some place 00:09:25.13\00:09:27.96 and then the girls themselves, you know, they're crying, 00:09:28.00\00:09:31.27 wondering what's gonna happen. 00:09:31.30\00:09:34.57 At that point, we can't say that they are happy to see us 00:09:34.60\00:09:37.61 because they don't know who we are. 00:09:37.64\00:09:39.21 Are they questioning 00:09:39.24\00:09:41.04 that you're there to help them some often times? 00:09:41.08\00:09:43.41 Yes. Okay. 00:09:43.45\00:09:44.78 But the moment that initial drama is over, 00:09:44.81\00:09:47.85 then we get some quiet time to tell them who we are, 00:09:47.88\00:09:52.25 and why we're there, 00:09:52.29\00:09:53.66 and that we really are interested 00:09:53.69\00:09:56.36 in their long term future. 00:09:56.39\00:09:57.96 So it's not about now, it's about the future, 00:09:57.99\00:10:01.36 and that we want to see them out of this life. 00:10:01.40\00:10:03.37 And many of them will breakdown and cry 00:10:03.40\00:10:06.07 and tell you the reason why they're there. 00:10:06.10\00:10:08.00 You know, they will say, we were so poor, 00:10:08.04\00:10:10.07 so naive, we didn't know, we were promised a job. 00:10:10.11\00:10:13.48 And the story is almost the same 00:10:13.51\00:10:16.21 again and again and again. 00:10:16.24\00:10:17.58 Over and over again. Yeah. 00:10:17.61\00:10:18.95 It's-- you wonder how could people be like this when-- 00:10:18.98\00:10:22.28 But you'd realize that they are all from different places, 00:10:22.32\00:10:25.35 even if they were, say, from Bangladesh 00:10:25.39\00:10:27.49 and we're seeing increasing number of girls 00:10:27.52\00:10:29.39 from Bangladesh and Nepal in Bangalore. 00:10:29.42\00:10:31.69 Brought into Bangalore. Yes. 00:10:31.73\00:10:33.29 Okay. 00:10:33.33\00:10:34.83 They don't know each other 00:10:34.86\00:10:36.46 and they're all recruited in the same way. 00:10:36.50\00:10:39.83 You know, somebody marries them, 00:10:39.87\00:10:41.20 somebody promises them a job, 00:10:41.24\00:10:42.57 brings them across the border, puts them on a train, 00:10:42.60\00:10:46.21 tells them they're going for a job in a massage parlor, 00:10:46.24\00:10:48.84 beauty parlor, as a housemaid, 00:10:48.88\00:10:51.71 and they end up in this building. 00:10:51.75\00:10:54.32 So the city of Bangalore, 00:10:54.35\00:10:55.68 it's an absolutely beautiful city. 00:10:55.72\00:10:57.95 It's an IT hub, it's a very, 00:10:57.99\00:11:00.16 what I noticed as a visitor anyway 00:11:00.19\00:11:02.22 coming to visit your city of Bangalore, 00:11:02.26\00:11:04.43 it's got a beautiful mix of modern, 00:11:04.46\00:11:07.30 with the IT industry, 00:11:07.33\00:11:08.66 and rich history and a lovely climate. 00:11:08.70\00:11:11.37 It's absolutely a wonderful place. 00:11:11.40\00:11:14.60 So in that city, how do you then, 00:11:14.64\00:11:17.24 before you make these raids, 00:11:17.27\00:11:18.61 how do you learn and work to find out 00:11:18.64\00:11:21.54 where these brothels are? 00:11:21.58\00:11:22.91 How do you make those inroads before you have a rescue? 00:11:22.94\00:11:26.75 We have them working to develop these contacts. 00:11:26.78\00:11:30.49 Like you said, on the surface it is a beautiful city. 00:11:30.52\00:11:34.26 We don't have a red-light district unlike, 00:11:34.29\00:11:37.13 you know, Mumbai and Calcutta, they have areas where, 00:11:37.16\00:11:40.03 you know, these girls are being taken 00:11:40.06\00:11:42.06 and where sex is offered, 00:11:42.10\00:11:43.70 but Bangalore doesn't have that. 00:11:43.73\00:11:46.30 It used to be more of a pensioners paradise 00:11:46.33\00:11:49.00 till it became an IT city. 00:11:49.04\00:11:50.37 Okay. 00:11:50.41\00:11:51.74 So everything is very hidden, 00:11:51.77\00:11:54.31 which makes it more difficult for us 00:11:54.34\00:11:55.81 because we have to search, we really have to look out 00:11:55.84\00:11:59.11 for places where these girls are being hidden, 00:11:59.15\00:12:01.22 where they're brought. 00:12:01.25\00:12:02.58 So we have a team of investigators 00:12:02.62\00:12:06.29 whose job is to befriend the underworld, 00:12:06.32\00:12:09.46 you know, befriend pimps, befriend auto rickshaw drivers 00:12:09.49\00:12:13.56 who will transport these girls, 00:12:13.60\00:12:15.13 befriend people that work in the really shady hotels 00:12:15.16\00:12:21.67 where the girls are pimped often. 00:12:21.70\00:12:24.57 And we sometimes go in as customers and clients, 00:12:24.61\00:12:27.64 sometimes as pimps ourselves 00:12:27.68\00:12:30.15 to try and access the information 00:12:30.18\00:12:32.55 as to where these girls are being held. 00:12:32.58\00:12:34.78 And once we have that information 00:12:34.82\00:12:36.38 and we know for sure 00:12:36.42\00:12:37.75 that in this building trafficking is-- 00:12:37.79\00:12:40.52 You know, a trafficked girl is being held 00:12:40.56\00:12:42.52 or a brothel is being run, 00:12:42.56\00:12:44.16 then we go to the police with that information. 00:12:44.19\00:12:46.53 Completely chartered out plan of rescue 00:12:46.56\00:12:50.17 including escape routes, entry, 00:12:50.20\00:12:53.17 number of people inside the building, 00:12:53.20\00:12:55.84 the number of girls, 00:12:55.87\00:12:57.21 their approximate ages, as much of-- 00:12:57.24\00:13:00.34 as much information as we can. 00:13:00.38\00:13:02.28 Because before we go into the rescue, 00:13:02.31\00:13:05.11 we're not gonna get another opportunity 00:13:05.15\00:13:07.32 or the police can't go in before the rescue 00:13:07.35\00:13:10.79 because there will be an alert. 00:13:10.82\00:13:12.65 So you sort of have one chance to do it right 00:13:12.69\00:13:16.22 and because there are no second chances? 00:13:16.26\00:13:18.13 Yes. Yes. 00:13:18.16\00:13:19.53 Now as you just heard Anita share, 00:13:21.73\00:13:23.67 the problem of trafficking is rampant in India. 00:13:23.70\00:13:27.34 The dangers involved in this mission 00:13:27.37\00:13:29.27 to save the young girls from trafficking are many. 00:13:29.30\00:13:32.67 When we come back we will hear from Anita 00:13:32.71\00:13:34.71 just how Asian Aid is helping her 00:13:34.74\00:13:37.05 and her team with the rescue operations. 00:13:37.08\00:13:39.81 And we'll see how we all can play a role 00:13:39.85\00:13:42.42 in rehabilitating these girls who are rescued. 00:13:42.45\00:13:46.29 My wife Angela and I are here in Andhra Pradesh, India, 00:13:58.37\00:14:01.80 visiting some of the Asian Aid projects 00:14:01.84\00:14:03.67 to see for ourselves 00:14:03.71\00:14:05.27 how the work that is being done here is transforming lives, 00:14:05.31\00:14:08.71 especially the lives of orphaned children 00:14:08.74\00:14:11.48 and abandoned children, 00:14:11.51\00:14:12.85 children from the tribal communities. 00:14:12.88\00:14:15.55 And we've discovered that because of sponsors like you, 00:14:15.58\00:14:17.85 they now have a place that they can call home, 00:14:17.89\00:14:20.36 they have wonderful clothing, nutritious food, 00:14:20.39\00:14:22.86 and they are being prepared to propel themselves 00:14:22.89\00:14:26.19 into the future for a promising career. 00:14:26.23\00:14:28.86 But above all that, because of sponsors like you, 00:14:28.90\00:14:31.93 they now have hope, hope for a better future. 00:14:31.97\00:14:35.74 So, Anita, after you go in, you and your team, 00:14:48.65\00:14:52.15 and you actually go in on these raids yourself personally, 00:14:52.19\00:14:55.42 these girls, you work with them for little while, 00:14:55.46\00:14:58.09 then what's the next step? 00:14:58.13\00:14:59.49 How do they transition from that life 00:14:59.53\00:15:03.77 back to somewhat a regular life? 00:15:03.80\00:15:06.94 Once we finish the rescues, 00:15:06.97\00:15:08.67 we take them to the police station 00:15:08.70\00:15:11.67 for a little bit where their stories are taken, 00:15:11.71\00:15:14.64 their photos are taken, 00:15:14.68\00:15:16.01 and then we have to take them to a government shelter 00:15:16.04\00:15:20.38 according to the law. 00:15:20.42\00:15:22.28 The first place after their rescue 00:15:22.32\00:15:24.09 has to be the government shelter. 00:15:24.12\00:15:25.99 And these are basically sets of buildings with staff, 00:15:26.02\00:15:31.76 but they're not specific to trafficked victims. 00:15:31.79\00:15:34.90 So you can have abandoned girls there, 00:15:34.93\00:15:37.10 you can have a pregnant mother there, 00:15:37.13\00:15:40.27 you know, pre-marital, 00:15:40.30\00:15:42.74 you can have someone who has lost their family, 00:15:42.77\00:15:46.68 you can have somebody who's lost, 00:15:46.71\00:15:48.98 got off a train at the wrong stop, 00:15:49.01\00:15:50.98 so just a mixed group of people inside that place 00:15:51.01\00:15:54.85 and these girls are taken to that place. 00:15:54.88\00:15:56.69 Usually, we do the rescues quite late at night-- 00:15:56.72\00:16:00.76 For that surprise factor. Yeah. Yes. 00:16:00.79\00:16:03.06 And so between about 2 or 3 A.M., 00:16:03.09\00:16:05.89 we end up in this place. 00:16:05.93\00:16:07.60 So the girls are, you know, there are about three gates 00:16:07.63\00:16:13.10 before you get inside the place. 00:16:13.13\00:16:14.74 It's almost like a jail. It looks like that. It's-- 00:16:14.77\00:16:18.04 Sounds intimidating. It is. 00:16:18.07\00:16:19.67 Then once there, 00:16:19.71\00:16:22.71 the girl's case has to come up for hearing 00:16:22.74\00:16:25.88 and we have to find out their backgrounds. 00:16:25.91\00:16:29.85 Many times, because it's a government run shelter, 00:16:29.88\00:16:33.25 the traffickers can end up coming right there. 00:16:33.29\00:16:35.89 Really? Yeah. 00:16:35.92\00:16:37.26 They pose as an aunt, a mother, a sister, a brother, 00:16:37.29\00:16:41.06 the only relative in that place. 00:16:41.10\00:16:43.57 And because they have so many cases 00:16:43.60\00:16:46.63 and so many people turning up, they don't check credentials. 00:16:46.67\00:16:52.87 And so they can turn up with, you know, a false document 00:16:52.91\00:16:57.01 and we have had many such ones. 00:16:57.05\00:16:59.71 And they can release the girl or they get to see the girl, 00:16:59.75\00:17:02.12 intimidate her more 00:17:02.15\00:17:03.79 or promise to get them out of that place 00:17:03.82\00:17:05.99 because by then, the girls really want 00:17:06.02\00:17:07.49 to get out of that place, 00:17:07.52\00:17:08.86 they don't speak the local language, 00:17:08.89\00:17:10.29 the food is not something that they like. 00:17:10.33\00:17:13.29 Government issued food essentially. 00:17:13.33\00:17:15.03 And then many times they have told us, 00:17:15.06\00:17:17.20 there are lice in the food or lice in the coffee. 00:17:17.23\00:17:19.63 Oh, my. 00:17:19.67\00:17:21.00 You know, yeah and the others are really mean to them 00:17:21.04\00:17:23.10 because they find out that they have been involved in sex, 00:17:23.14\00:17:26.91 commercial sex, and they label them, 00:17:26.94\00:17:29.14 the stigma of being in that place. 00:17:29.18\00:17:32.95 You know, you just want to get out. 00:17:32.98\00:17:34.32 They are desperate to get out. 00:17:34.35\00:17:35.68 Many times these girls have tried to cut their wrists 00:17:35.72\00:17:38.85 and we get a call to say, 00:17:38.89\00:17:40.22 "Please come and take the girls you rescued out of this place 00:17:40.26\00:17:42.79 because they're disturbing everybody else." 00:17:42.82\00:17:45.03 And you go there and they say 00:17:45.06\00:17:46.63 "We just want to go out of this place. 00:17:46.66\00:17:48.03 The brothel was better." You know, so harsh. 00:17:48.06\00:17:50.40 Sounds horrible. So harsh. 00:17:50.43\00:17:52.33 How many days or how much time 00:17:52.37\00:17:54.64 are they in this place generally? 00:17:54.67\00:17:56.67 Well, it can be anything 00:17:56.71\00:17:58.04 between two months to two years. 00:17:58.07\00:17:59.97 Oh, wow. 00:18:00.01\00:18:02.01 Are they cared for, 00:18:02.04\00:18:03.38 are their physical needs, I mean-- 00:18:03.41\00:18:04.88 Oh, yes. 00:18:04.91\00:18:06.25 I mean, I hate to be very-- I hate to talk about it, 00:18:06.28\00:18:10.12 but the life they were living in the brothel, 00:18:10.15\00:18:12.79 they had a lot of physical injuries I assume. 00:18:12.82\00:18:16.29 Obviously, emotional and mental, 00:18:16.32\00:18:17.99 are those things addressed at all in the government home? 00:18:18.03\00:18:22.63 The government does provide a shelter, so there is food. 00:18:22.66\00:18:26.67 There is a sense of-- 00:18:26.70\00:18:29.00 They have water and clothes and people talk to them, 00:18:29.04\00:18:33.41 but they're abused sometimes in different ways. 00:18:33.44\00:18:36.28 There's a lot of sexual abuse 00:18:36.31\00:18:37.65 that happens within those shelters 00:18:37.68\00:18:39.58 especially to the younger children. 00:18:39.61\00:18:42.12 We did a rescue of boys who had been trafficked 00:18:42.15\00:18:45.45 from Bihar to Bangalore for labor 00:18:45.49\00:18:49.12 and some of these boys were aged nine to twelve. 00:18:49.16\00:18:52.76 And when we visited about a week later, 00:18:52.79\00:18:55.73 a couple of them said, they didn't like 00:18:55.76\00:18:58.00 what older boys were doing to them, 00:18:58.03\00:19:00.24 which is implying sexual abuse inside a government shelter 00:19:00.27\00:19:04.34 that is meant to be a protective place. 00:19:04.37\00:19:07.61 It sounds like it's taking them from a bad situation 00:19:07.64\00:19:12.91 and putting them in a so-so situation 00:19:12.95\00:19:15.62 and in that specific case, a worse situation. 00:19:15.65\00:19:18.35 It's true. 00:19:18.39\00:19:19.72 So it doesn't sound like it's an answer, 00:19:19.75\00:19:21.49 but you also don't have a choice. 00:19:21.52\00:19:23.79 Yes. 00:19:23.83\00:19:25.16 So, Anita, you are Christian, 00:19:25.19\00:19:29.33 what difference would it make to be able to take these girls 00:19:29.36\00:19:32.67 and put them in a Christian facility 00:19:32.70\00:19:35.20 where they were nurtured and cared for specifically? 00:19:35.24\00:19:39.77 Now, Jean, you are talking about a vision 00:19:39.81\00:19:41.44 that I have for this, for these girls, 00:19:41.48\00:19:44.75 every girl who is rescued. 00:19:44.78\00:19:46.78 You know, the sense of hopelessness 00:19:46.82\00:19:48.22 inside that place when we walk into those brothels 00:19:48.25\00:19:50.72 or when we go into those places 00:19:50.75\00:19:53.52 where they are being forced to hide or to overwork, 00:19:53.56\00:19:58.53 there is just a deep sense of despair 00:19:58.56\00:20:02.03 and a darkness that is so obvious to us. 00:20:02.06\00:20:05.37 And when we get them out of that place 00:20:05.40\00:20:07.84 what we want to give them to replace that 00:20:07.87\00:20:10.21 is the sense of hope that God cares about them, 00:20:10.24\00:20:13.51 that there is a future that He can build, 00:20:13.54\00:20:16.34 and that He can restore, 00:20:16.38\00:20:17.71 and that no matter what has happened to them, 00:20:17.75\00:20:20.58 they are still made in the image of God 00:20:20.62\00:20:22.65 and nobody can destroy that. 00:20:22.68\00:20:24.85 And nothing can, nothing can mar that. 00:20:24.89\00:20:28.96 But you see they've never been told that 00:20:28.99\00:20:31.66 they've been so abused inside that place 00:20:31.69\00:20:34.93 that they, they couldn't care about themselves. 00:20:34.96\00:20:37.93 So we in our home will have that opportunity 00:20:37.97\00:20:42.14 right from the start to just love on them, 00:20:42.17\00:20:45.47 to be able to give them that sense of hope 00:20:45.51\00:20:49.58 that they need not fear anymore, 00:20:49.61\00:20:51.41 they're not in a, they're not in a place 00:20:51.45\00:20:53.75 that anyone's gonna abuse them. 00:20:53.78\00:20:55.82 In fact, they're gonna receive the opposite, 00:20:55.85\00:20:57.85 that there will be a sense of freedom within that place 00:20:57.89\00:21:01.99 where they can make choices 00:21:02.02\00:21:03.96 and that those choices will be guided 00:21:03.99\00:21:07.00 by good counseling and that they will have options 00:21:07.03\00:21:10.57 whether they learn a new trade 00:21:10.60\00:21:12.13 or whether they go back to visit family. 00:21:12.17\00:21:15.00 It will all be under, 00:21:15.04\00:21:17.07 under careful observation and supervision 00:21:17.11\00:21:19.84 to ensure that the best happens for these girls. 00:21:19.87\00:21:23.88 I think part of the story that you tell 00:21:23.91\00:21:26.92 that really breaks my heart 00:21:26.95\00:21:28.58 is when you share how these girls 00:21:28.62\00:21:30.95 once they are rescued some of them, 00:21:30.99\00:21:33.52 a certain percentage of them do go back to that way of life 00:21:33.56\00:21:37.33 because of the shame, because they don't feel an option. 00:21:37.36\00:21:41.60 Have you seen the difference 00:21:41.63\00:21:44.50 that Christ makes for the girls? 00:21:44.53\00:21:46.60 Is that the difference that keeps them 00:21:46.63\00:21:49.04 from going back to their lifestyle? 00:21:49.07\00:21:51.54 I think it is the main difference, Jean. 00:21:51.57\00:21:54.94 I mean, to be able to pray with the girls 00:21:54.98\00:21:57.45 and we do pray with the girls. 00:21:57.48\00:21:59.31 You know that I told you, we get some private time 00:21:59.35\00:22:02.08 either at the police station or at the brothel 00:22:02.12\00:22:04.05 before we take them to the government shelter. 00:22:04.09\00:22:06.72 We almost always talk to them about God and pray with them 00:22:06.76\00:22:10.96 because that's the only private time 00:22:10.99\00:22:13.09 we'll get before we are under supervised visits 00:22:13.13\00:22:17.17 in the government shelter. 00:22:17.20\00:22:18.70 But if we had our home, we can pray with them every day, 00:22:18.73\00:22:21.97 we can pray with them and counsel them, 00:22:22.00\00:22:23.84 and tell them about our God who loves them, 00:22:23.87\00:22:26.51 and help them to come to terms with that. 00:22:26.54\00:22:28.44 I mean, many of them ask us, 00:22:28.48\00:22:30.71 "Why do you want to do this for us? 00:22:30.75\00:22:33.25 You know, why would you be here?" 00:22:33.28\00:22:34.72 Because I always tell them, "I'm a mother myself. 00:22:34.75\00:22:37.95 You know, I have two daughters, 00:22:37.99\00:22:39.32 I know what it feels like to be inside this place 00:22:39.35\00:22:43.22 wondering what's gonna happen next." 00:22:43.26\00:22:45.69 And they always say, "Why do you take this risk?" 00:22:45.73\00:22:47.96 And I tell them, 00:22:48.00\00:22:49.33 "It's because God has called some of us to these things 00:22:49.36\00:22:53.07 and because it's for God who took a risk for us. 00:22:53.10\00:22:55.97 I mean, that He came for us 00:22:56.00\00:22:58.14 that we might have a life that is free." 00:22:58.17\00:23:00.58 And, you know, they are so open to listening to the gospel, 00:23:00.61\00:23:05.75 to knowing, but the most important thing, Jean, 00:23:05.78\00:23:09.05 is for them to see the gospel in action 00:23:09.08\00:23:12.15 and that's what we manage to do there. 00:23:12.19\00:23:14.52 Okay. 00:23:14.56\00:23:15.89 But what drives you each and every day to continue 00:23:15.92\00:23:19.49 to put your own personal life in danger? 00:23:19.53\00:23:22.30 You're on the frontlines doing this 00:23:22.33\00:23:24.00 and I imagine your husband worries. 00:23:24.03\00:23:27.14 What keeps you going to do this? 00:23:27.17\00:23:31.24 I think this, the call that God had on my life 00:23:31.27\00:23:34.24 and which I realized about 10 years ago 00:23:34.28\00:23:37.08 when I went out on my first rescue mission, 00:23:37.11\00:23:40.75 just the thought of these girls out there and that, 00:23:40.78\00:23:46.29 you know, something might happen to them, 00:23:46.32\00:23:47.82 that they may never hear about our God 00:23:47.86\00:23:50.73 who loves them. 00:23:50.76\00:23:52.09 Being an Indian women myself, a mother of daughters 00:23:52.13\00:23:56.53 just wanting to do the best that we can for these girls. 00:23:56.56\00:24:01.60 It's funny, I never, I never was a brave 00:24:01.64\00:24:03.54 or courageous person growing up. 00:24:03.57\00:24:05.44 In fact, I was very timid. I can't believe it. 00:24:05.47\00:24:07.08 Very timid, very shy. 00:24:07.11\00:24:08.44 Really? Yeah. 00:24:08.48\00:24:10.11 I hated standing up in front of anything, but-- 00:24:10.15\00:24:13.65 And I still am very afraid before we go on a rescue. 00:24:13.68\00:24:16.48 Everybody knows that I have my private time, 00:24:16.52\00:24:19.62 but when we finish the prayer 00:24:19.65\00:24:21.72 before the raiding team is out of the door, 00:24:21.76\00:24:26.19 I know that God has gone before us 00:24:26.23\00:24:28.33 and He's already there. 00:24:28.36\00:24:29.93 I mean, there are times, Jean, 00:24:29.96\00:24:31.30 that we search the building for the girls 00:24:31.33\00:24:34.77 and we just don't know where they've hidden them. 00:24:34.80\00:24:37.51 And somehow God shows us where that hidden place is, 00:24:37.54\00:24:41.91 whether it's, you know, a hole in the wall 00:24:41.94\00:24:44.88 that has been sealed up 00:24:44.91\00:24:46.41 and we have to break through that 00:24:46.45\00:24:47.88 or whether it's a reception, a hotel reception desk 00:24:47.92\00:24:52.29 and you open the drawer and it's a staircase. 00:24:52.32\00:24:54.39 Really? Wow. 00:24:54.42\00:24:55.76 Into a cellar where the girls have been pushed. 00:24:55.79\00:24:58.46 It is God because, you know, none of us 00:24:58.49\00:25:00.93 have had any kind of investigative training. 00:25:00.96\00:25:03.67 And when God shows up there, we know that we keep going on. 00:25:03.70\00:25:08.77 He is going before you. Yes. 00:25:08.80\00:25:10.41 And you are trusting in Him. Yes. 00:25:10.44\00:25:12.61 Well, I have a hard time imagining you 00:25:12.64\00:25:14.48 as a timid young girl. 00:25:14.51\00:25:16.38 You're a great inspiration to myself 00:25:16.41\00:25:19.08 and many who've met you, I know you are. 00:25:19.11\00:25:22.42 Well, I just praise God 00:25:22.45\00:25:23.79 that you and Operation Child Rescue are doing 00:25:23.82\00:25:27.09 what you are doing, Anita, 00:25:27.12\00:25:28.46 that you are facing these problems, 00:25:28.49\00:25:30.39 that you're there dealing with it. 00:25:30.43\00:25:33.50 You know, it's really hard for those of us 00:25:33.53\00:25:36.00 who don't see it with our own eyes 00:25:36.03\00:25:38.53 to really comprehend the level of danger, 00:25:38.57\00:25:44.17 the horrors that these children go through, 00:25:44.21\00:25:46.88 but I just thank you for what you're doing, 00:25:46.91\00:25:49.01 for the ministry that you have. 00:25:49.04\00:25:51.45 And I'm just wondering if we can pray together? 00:25:51.48\00:25:53.62 Yes, please. Please. 00:25:53.65\00:25:56.32 Dear God in heaven, 00:25:56.35\00:25:57.69 You see what's happening in India. 00:25:57.72\00:25:59.99 You see into the lives of the young women 00:26:00.02\00:26:04.13 who are vulnerable in the rural areas. 00:26:04.16\00:26:06.06 And, Lord, You see the horrors more than we can even imagine. 00:26:06.09\00:26:09.60 But, Father, we love You and we know 00:26:09.63\00:26:12.20 that You created each of us 00:26:12.23\00:26:13.74 and that You love us each individually, 00:26:13.77\00:26:16.00 that You created each of us for a purpose. 00:26:16.04\00:26:18.67 Father, I ask that You will go with Anita and her team 00:26:18.71\00:26:21.31 as they continue to rescue these vulnerable people, 00:26:21.34\00:26:25.61 these children, these young men, 00:26:25.65\00:26:27.45 these young women from the dangers 00:26:27.48\00:26:29.45 that they find themselves in. 00:26:29.48\00:26:30.99 Father, protect them and may Your light, 00:26:31.02\00:26:34.89 Lord, change their lives for eternity. 00:26:34.92\00:26:38.36 Lord, we place Anita and her team in Your care. 00:26:38.39\00:26:42.66 We ask for Your grace 00:26:42.70\00:26:44.03 and Your hand over this process. 00:26:44.07\00:26:45.50 In Jesus name, amen. Amen. 00:26:45.53\00:26:48.47 Anita, it's always a please visiting with you. 00:26:48.50\00:26:50.94 Thank you. Thank you, Jean. 00:26:50.97\00:26:52.77 Current estimates tell us 00:26:56.34\00:26:57.81 that more than 1.2 million children 00:26:57.85\00:27:00.78 are caught up in human trafficking in India alone. 00:27:00.82\00:27:04.12 The numbers are truly staggering, 00:27:04.15\00:27:06.86 but thanks to people like Anita 00:27:06.89\00:27:08.82 and to programs like Operation Child Rescue 00:27:08.86\00:27:11.76 these young girls and boys can be rescued 00:27:11.79\00:27:14.96 and rehabilitated. 00:27:15.00\00:27:16.77 Now you and I can play a vital role 00:27:16.80\00:27:18.70 in helping Asian Aid in its rescue efforts. 00:27:18.73\00:27:21.67 We at the Voice of Prophecy have partnered 00:27:21.70\00:27:24.11 with Asian Aid to build a rehabilitation home 00:27:24.14\00:27:27.14 in Bangalore, India. 00:27:27.18\00:27:28.71 We are partnering with Anita to provide a safe place 00:27:28.74\00:27:31.98 where young girls can be given hope, healing, 00:27:32.01\00:27:34.68 and to learn new skills all in a Christian environment. 00:27:34.72\00:27:38.92 So please pray for Anita and for her team in India. 00:27:38.95\00:27:42.52 And if you would like to support 00:27:42.56\00:27:44.03 or to get more information on Operation Child Rescue 00:27:44.06\00:27:47.26 please contact Asian Aid. 00:27:47.30\00:27:49.50 Thank you for watching and God bless. 00:27:49.53\00:27:51.80
