Not 24 hour ago I was standing overlooking 00:00:01.73\00:00:04.77 the Pacific Ocean and then I flew 00:00:04.80\00:00:07.34 and I crossed the Atlantic Ocean 00:00:07.37\00:00:08.94 and now I find myself 00:00:08.97\00:00:10.69 at the Bay of Bengal part of the Indian Ocean. 00:00:10.72\00:00:13.63 It maybe think about the fact that the ocean 00:00:13.66\00:00:16.45 separates and divides us however hope unites us. 00:00:16.48\00:00:20.46 And I'm here in the great country of India 00:00:20.49\00:00:22.94 on a journey to find out how it is that Asian Aid 00:00:22.97\00:00:26.54 is changing the lives of people, 00:00:26.57\00:00:28.50 particularly the lives of needy children. 00:00:28.53\00:00:31.89 Asian Aid is an organization giving hope, 00:00:49.10\00:00:52.06 an organization fostering permanent positive change 00:00:52.09\00:00:55.19 in the lives of disadvantage children 00:00:55.22\00:00:57.28 and their communities. 00:00:57.31\00:00:59.18 An organization that is committed 00:00:59.21\00:01:00.85 to making a difference in the lives of children 00:01:00.88\00:01:03.34 and those who are in need. 00:01:03.37\00:01:05.00 Serving communities in Nepal, Bangladesh, 00:01:05.03\00:01:08.09 Sri Lanka, Myanmar and India. 00:01:08.12\00:01:11.52 For the last 40 years Asian Aid has invested 00:01:18.80\00:01:22.06 in the futures of people 00:01:22.09\00:01:23.51 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:01:23.54\00:01:27.79 Driven by their dedication 00:01:27.82\00:01:29.14 to helping those who have the least 00:01:29.17\00:01:31.83 Asian Aid is an organization 00:01:31.86\00:01:33.54 focused on the welfare of children, 00:01:33.57\00:01:36.06 implementing diverse development projects 00:01:36.09\00:01:38.80 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:01:38.83\00:01:41.51 Their outreach spans from child rescue operations 00:01:41.54\00:01:44.86 to providing an education for orphans, 00:01:44.89\00:01:47.12 deaf and the blind children. 00:01:47.15\00:01:50.00 Giving them a sense of place, a home 00:01:50.03\00:01:52.84 but above all Asian Aid is an organization giving hope, 00:01:52.87\00:01:57.35 giving hope to children, giving hope to communities, 00:01:57.38\00:02:00.93 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:02:00.96\00:02:04.69 This is Hope in Motion. 00:02:04.72\00:02:07.97 My introduction to India was one of extreme contrast. 00:02:33.88\00:02:38.20 Here I was exhausted 00:02:38.23\00:02:40.29 after a set of flights that lasted 30 hours 00:02:40.32\00:02:43.44 and now resting in the comforts 00:02:43.47\00:02:44.79 of a fine hotel room 00:02:44.82\00:02:46.53 over looking the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal. 00:02:46.56\00:02:50.04 And the next moment 00:02:50.07\00:02:51.39 I was being driven along chaotic traffic to witness 00:02:51.42\00:02:54.83 the communit living in squalid conditions. 00:02:54.86\00:02:58.05 A slum community right in the middle 00:02:58.08\00:03:00.70 of a bustling city. 00:03:00.73\00:03:02.75 I was told about a school 00:03:06.65\00:03:08.37 sponsored and operated by Asian Aid USA in this slum. 00:03:08.40\00:03:13.00 As Jim, CEO of Asian Aid USA led me to the school 00:03:13.03\00:03:17.53 we stopped by on the street side 00:03:17.56\00:03:19.37 to say hello to Romani. 00:03:19.40\00:03:21.06 Well, this is Mr. George. 00:03:21.09\00:03:22.61 How are you, sir? 00:03:22.64\00:03:24.22 Jim introduced me to her and I learned 00:03:24.25\00:03:26.43 she was one of the graduates of the school 00:03:26.46\00:03:28.85 established right here in the slum. 00:03:28.88\00:03:31.72 As we continued to make our way 00:03:31.75\00:03:33.29 towards to the school my heart was troubled. 00:03:33.32\00:03:36.88 Just an hour ago everything was normal 00:03:36.91\00:03:39.86 but now it wasn't. 00:03:39.89\00:03:42.00 It was like I was being transported 00:03:42.03\00:03:44.09 into another world. 00:03:44.12\00:03:46.21 When we arrived at the school 00:03:51.68\00:03:53.77 I saw a glimpse of hope in this neighborhood. 00:03:53.80\00:03:57.09 I was introduced to Naomi the school teacher in-charge 00:03:57.12\00:04:00.64 and I saw precious small children 00:04:00.67\00:04:02.83 sitting on small benches and on the floor. 00:04:02.86\00:04:06.11 They were learning. 00:04:06.14\00:04:07.71 The children were indeed happy to see us 00:04:07.74\00:04:10.27 and they welcomed us clambering to shake our hands. 00:04:10.30\00:04:14.05 I was given a brief tour of the school premises 00:04:14.08\00:04:16.82 and then all the children gathered on the roof top 00:04:16.85\00:04:19.47 to sing songs for us. 00:04:19.50\00:04:21.78 I was able to tell them about what I did for a living 00:04:21.81\00:04:24.74 and I played some violin for them. 00:04:24.77\00:04:26.77 I had the opportunity to speak with Naomi. 00:04:40.60\00:04:43.30 She struck me as a passionate servant. 00:04:43.33\00:04:46.90 Now we have 120 students, sir. 00:04:46.93\00:04:49.31 Wow. 00:04:49.34\00:04:50.37 All are coming from a poor background 00:04:50.40\00:04:52.27 and they all stay here only in this street. 00:04:52.30\00:04:55.15 Just right here. 00:04:55.18\00:04:56.31 And they really need the help of the sponsors 00:04:56.34\00:04:59.55 because it's a great help for them 00:04:59.58\00:05:01.15 Yes. 00:05:01.18\00:05:02.21 It's a great benefit to educate these children in this school. 00:05:02.24\00:05:05.46 They are coming from poor background here 00:05:05.49\00:05:07.48 and they are much benefited by this school here. 00:05:07.51\00:05:10.00 What do you think this area, this street, this slum 00:05:10.03\00:05:15.10 would be like without this school right here? 00:05:15.13\00:05:18.01 Now there is lot of change 00:05:18.04\00:05:19.28 after the school was established since 17 years. 00:05:19.31\00:05:23.75 Since 17 years this school is here 00:05:23.78\00:05:26.32 and there is lot of change. 00:05:26.35\00:05:27.43 The parents understood then they changed their lives 00:05:27.46\00:05:31.09 and they are ready to send their children 00:05:31.12\00:05:33.47 and now lot of change has taken place 00:05:33.50\00:05:36.83 because of this school. 00:05:36.86\00:05:39.07 Hope is in this slum, hope is in this street, 00:05:39.10\00:05:42.65 hope is in this community because of this school. 00:05:42.68\00:05:45.09 Yes. Yes. 00:05:45.12\00:05:46.31 I couldn't help but look at all of these 00:05:47.43\00:05:49.43 precious children around me and wonder 00:05:49.46\00:05:52.22 how many doctors, engineers, teachers 00:05:52.25\00:05:55.54 and software professionals will come from this school. 00:05:55.57\00:05:58.85 Even though the school may not have the same features 00:05:58.88\00:06:01.60 and facilities like what we are used to back at home 00:06:01.63\00:06:04.85 it was right up there 00:06:04.88\00:06:05.91 and making a difference in the lives of this children 00:06:05.94\00:06:09.25 and in their community. 00:06:09.28\00:06:11.55 This school serves so many parts of the community. 00:06:11.58\00:06:16.76 First of all the parents are given hope. 00:06:16.79\00:06:19.47 Can you imagine living in despairingly situations 00:06:19.50\00:06:23.28 wanting the best for your child where not got nothing. 00:06:23.31\00:06:26.66 So now the first thing is it gives the children hope 00:06:26.69\00:06:30.20 which inspires the parents. 00:06:30.23\00:06:32.13 We are also gonna look at ways of expanding 00:06:32.16\00:06:34.28 into the community further by took medical follow up 00:06:34.31\00:06:38.08 and doing any vocational training that's our dream 00:06:38.11\00:06:42.83 but right now as you can see the community appreciative. 00:06:42.86\00:06:47.06 And we just so prayed of what the donor have done here. 00:06:47.09\00:06:51.63 Yes. 00:06:51.66\00:06:52.69 Asian Aid is prayed of what its done 00:06:52.72\00:06:54.73 but with the help of those people 00:06:54.76\00:06:55.90 that have supported and sponsored these children-- 00:06:55.93\00:06:58.28 Wouldn't be possible. 00:06:58.31\00:06:59.34 Wouldn't be possible, sponsorship, 00:06:59.37\00:07:01.59 this is one of the best example of sponsorship 00:07:01.62\00:07:05.13 not only educating the child 00:07:05.16\00:07:07.00 but making the difference beyond the child. 00:07:07.03\00:07:10.08 Now these parents are coming to know Jesus, 00:07:10.11\00:07:12.07 they are getting baptized, they are being converted. 00:07:12.10\00:07:13.93 Correct. 00:07:13.96\00:07:14.99 And the introduction to Jesus 00:07:15.02\00:07:17.42 is happening in a community 00:07:17.45\00:07:18.87 in the way that you couldn't achieve it any way. 00:07:18.90\00:07:21.56 That's right. 00:07:21.59\00:07:22.65 At that moment I realized that Asian Aid 00:07:22.68\00:07:26.65 is doing what Christ commissioned us to do 00:07:26.68\00:07:29.69 in a way that I hadn't imagined before. 00:07:29.72\00:07:32.72 Well, I've been in India for just over 24 hours 00:07:32.75\00:07:36.54 and I have seen reports on television, 00:07:36.57\00:07:39.36 I have seen magazine articles 00:07:39.39\00:07:42.20 but nothing could really prepare me 00:07:42.23\00:07:44.17 for visiting a slum right here, right now. 00:07:44.20\00:07:48.35 It is an amazing experience 00:07:48.38\00:07:51.00 and just as we were coming in I met a young lady 00:07:51.03\00:07:54.47 that almost seemed to be out of place. 00:07:54.50\00:07:57.60 We greeted her, she smiled and then we began to talk. 00:07:57.63\00:08:02.40 As it turns out right here in this slum 00:08:02.43\00:08:05.57 she attended this school. 00:08:05.60\00:08:07.60 She was able to break free of the path 00:08:07.63\00:08:10.81 that most people have which is a path to nowhere. 00:08:10.84\00:08:14.08 Her life has been turned around. 00:08:14.11\00:08:16.70 Her life has been totally different 00:08:16.73\00:08:19.22 than what she might be if she didn't have the hope 00:08:19.25\00:08:21.91 of attending the school right here in this slum. 00:08:21.94\00:08:24.95 The story of this young lady is exactly why I'm here 00:08:24.98\00:08:28.73 and why we are here. 00:08:28.76\00:08:30.28 Her story is the story of hope, 00:08:30.31\00:08:32.92 her story is the story of opportunity 00:08:32.95\00:08:36.39 which is what this school does for the children 00:08:36.42\00:08:39.70 and the young people that live in this slum. 00:08:39.73\00:08:42.89 From the slum we drove along the coast towards Bobbili. 00:08:45.82\00:08:50.68 Along the way we took a small detour 00:08:50.71\00:08:53.83 to visit another Seventh-day Adventist school. 00:08:53.86\00:08:56.95 By the time we arrived at the school 00:08:56.98\00:08:59.25 it was the middle of the afternoon. 00:08:59.28\00:09:01.64 But a new dorm is under construction 00:09:01.67\00:09:04.01 and excitement was in the air. 00:09:04.04\00:09:06.63 I'm in the town of Vizianagaram which is about an hours drive 00:09:06.66\00:09:10.60 from the city of Vizag and I'm standing 00:09:10.63\00:09:13.34 on what is part of the new girl's dormitory. 00:09:13.37\00:09:16.44 It is really a beautiful facility 00:09:16.47\00:09:18.49 as you can see. 00:09:18.52\00:09:20.47 Over here you can see the structure 00:09:20.50\00:09:23.71 that is going to be the new boy's dorm. 00:09:23.74\00:09:26.87 They've actually been sitting, sleeping, learning, 00:09:26.90\00:09:30.58 and eating in the church 00:09:30.61\00:09:32.83 but provision is being made by the grace of God 00:09:32.86\00:09:35.58 through the donors that support the work 00:09:35.61\00:09:38.26 that Asian Aid is doing so that this building 00:09:38.29\00:09:42.11 which will house 50 boys 00:09:42.14\00:09:44.79 will be erected here soon as you see it's on the way. 00:09:44.82\00:09:50.76 But we have to think about the future, 00:09:50.79\00:09:52.38 there are so much need 00:09:52.41\00:09:53.46 and there are so many young people 00:09:53.49\00:09:54.98 that are coming to us literally every day 00:09:55.01\00:09:57.50 and so we have set it up so that we can grow 00:09:57.53\00:10:00.20 and perhaps build the second floor 00:10:00.23\00:10:01.93 in the near future as you are able to help us 00:10:01.96\00:10:05.19 and make it possible 00:10:05.22\00:10:06.57 so that more young people can study here 00:10:06.60\00:10:09.49 and come to know Jesus Christ. 00:10:09.52\00:10:13.14 Jim informed me that the new boy's dorm 00:10:13.17\00:10:15.70 would be ready in a few months time. 00:10:15.73\00:10:18.49 When he took me on a tour of the classroom 00:10:18.52\00:10:21.40 I realized that more still needs to be done. 00:10:21.43\00:10:25.88 I am sitting in a classroom 00:10:25.91\00:10:27.47 where more than 20 young students 00:10:27.50\00:10:29.62 are able to learn. 00:10:29.65\00:10:31.50 By their standards this place is quite a luxury 00:10:31.53\00:10:34.79 because their backgrounds are very disadvantaged 00:10:34.82\00:10:37.88 but the reality is we need a new place. 00:10:37.91\00:10:41.12 You saw the roof it has a hole in it. 00:10:41.15\00:10:43.92 Monsoon season is coming and it rains and it rains a lot 00:10:43.95\00:10:48.84 and they have to leave this building 00:10:48.87\00:10:50.62 to go to a very crowded place where they all sit together 00:10:50.65\00:10:54.96 and then try to learn. 00:10:54.99\00:10:57.20 It's also pretty warm in here. 00:10:57.23\00:10:59.23 I have been here for just a couple of minutes 00:10:59.26\00:11:01.41 and I have to wipe my face, my forehead 00:11:01.44\00:11:04.02 and my arms because it's so hot. 00:11:04.05\00:11:07.04 I want to see this change 00:11:07.07\00:11:08.85 and I'm thankful that Asian Aid is here 00:11:08.88\00:11:11.82 to be able to do something about it. 00:11:11.85\00:11:14.35 This is at Vizianagaram 00:11:14.38\00:11:16.65 is a part of our school development program. 00:11:16.68\00:11:20.18 We sponsor children in the school 00:11:20.21\00:11:22.31 but as you can see the conditions 00:11:22.34\00:11:24.57 of the classroom at the school are really not acceptable. 00:11:24.60\00:11:29.24 The classrooms, the roofs in disrepair, 00:11:29.27\00:11:32.26 there are holes in the roof 00:11:32.29\00:11:33.79 and as you can see there are of very basic construction. 00:11:33.82\00:11:38.22 We are looking forward to making the classrooms 00:11:38.25\00:11:41.41 apart of our ongoing development plan 00:11:41.44\00:11:44.43 and churches like Bonita Valley in California 00:11:44.46\00:11:47.69 have been very supportive of the school. 00:11:47.72\00:11:50.22 So we are working with donors 00:11:50.25\00:11:52.66 and churches like Bonita Valley to develop the school. 00:11:52.69\00:11:57.12 It was heartwarming to learn that 00:11:57.15\00:11:59.40 some churches back home are actively involved 00:11:59.43\00:12:02.60 in the development work of Asian Aid here in India 00:12:02.63\00:12:06.11 and I hope that their necessary funds 00:12:06.14\00:12:08.30 will be raised soon 00:12:08.33\00:12:10.26 to facilitate the building of a new classroom complex. 00:12:10.29\00:12:14.83 Back on the road we were headed towards 00:12:14.86\00:12:17.28 Asian Aid School for the blind in Bobbili. 00:12:17.31\00:12:19.85 When we arrived at the school for the blind 00:12:22.99\00:12:25.43 all the students were lined up on either side of the entrance. 00:12:25.46\00:12:29.42 It is a customary greeting for special visitors. 00:12:29.45\00:12:33.02 How are you? 00:12:33.05\00:12:34.61 Fine, sir. Welcome to our school. 00:12:34.64\00:12:35.76 Thank you so much. I'm excited to be here. 00:12:35.79\00:12:38.08 Welcome sir. Thanks. 00:12:38.11\00:12:39.29 Many of these children are shunned 00:12:39.32\00:12:41.55 and abandoned by their families because of their blindness 00:12:41.58\00:12:45.70 but here they are treated with love and kindness 00:12:45.73\00:12:49.55 and they flourish beautifully. 00:12:49.58\00:12:52.72 At the blind school the next day 00:12:52.75\00:12:54.92 Pastor Paulson principal of the school 00:12:54.95\00:12:57.80 showed me around and educated me 00:12:57.83\00:13:00.03 on how the children are taught. 00:13:00.06\00:13:02.26 I was surprised to find that these blind children 00:13:02.29\00:13:05.67 were taught how to use computers. 00:13:05.70\00:13:08.20 These children are being prepared 00:13:08.23\00:13:10.67 to face the challenges of the outside world. 00:13:10.70\00:13:14.29 And we do a great job here 00:13:14.32\00:13:17.42 training the children for the future 00:13:17.45\00:13:20.26 and we are always grateful to all the sponsors and donors 00:13:20.29\00:13:24.00 who have done their best 00:13:24.03\00:13:25.61 to make this big dream come true. 00:13:25.64\00:13:28.40 And the buildings are standard, built in such a way 00:13:28.43\00:13:33.12 that will benefit any new child that walks inside. 00:13:33.15\00:13:36.78 It just takes a walk once 00:13:36.81\00:13:38.72 and they feel that is their home. 00:13:38.75\00:13:41.18 And this structure I hope and pray 00:13:41.21\00:13:44.64 it will remain as a monument 00:13:44.67\00:13:46.51 and as a light for all the other villages 00:13:46.64\00:13:49.82 and town and the cities 00:13:49.85\00:13:52.52 and especially for the whole of India. 00:13:52.55\00:13:55.30 That evening I had the honor 00:13:55.33\00:13:57.41 of presenting a concert for them 00:13:57.44\00:13:59.72 and it was moving 00:13:59.75\00:14:01.00 just to seem them soaking up the music. 00:14:01.03\00:14:04.29 Although blind they sang along to my music 00:14:04.32\00:14:07.80 with such conviction and enthusiasm 00:14:07.83\00:14:10.80 it was a powerful moment. 00:14:10.83\00:14:13.02 I've been here at the blind school 00:14:47.90\00:14:49.60 for just a few hours 00:14:49.63\00:14:51.39 but in hearing them sing I have been moved to tears. 00:14:51.42\00:14:55.50 It had made me thing about how music brings us together 00:14:55.53\00:14:59.15 and you know, the music and the songs of praise Jesus 00:14:59.18\00:15:02.96 are the first exposure that many of these 00:15:02.99\00:15:05.56 young people have had to Jesus Christ. 00:15:05.59\00:15:09.05 They have amazing faith. 00:15:09.08\00:15:11.26 It's easy for me to see that 00:15:11.29\00:15:13.53 and it is wonderful to be in a place 00:15:13.56\00:15:15.65 where they are learning to develop 00:15:15.68\00:15:17.86 and dedicate their talents in lives 00:15:17.89\00:15:19.98 to use for God's honor and glory. 00:15:20.01\00:15:22.72 We've got a lot done during my time here. 00:15:24.42\00:15:27.69 As exhausted as I was I couldn't stop my mind 00:15:27.72\00:15:31.08 from replaying the places I visited 00:15:31.11\00:15:33.54 and the things that I got to witness 00:15:33.57\00:15:35.74 as well as the work that Asian Aid is doing 00:15:35.77\00:15:38.24 to reach out to those in need. 00:15:38.27\00:15:40.92 And now at the school for the blind 00:15:40.95\00:15:43.36 I saw children not only receiving an education, 00:15:43.39\00:15:46.72 not just going out and serving, having a career 00:15:46.75\00:15:50.19 but also coming to know Jesus Christ. 00:15:50.22\00:15:53.46 Oh, but there's more to come when we come back 00:15:53.49\00:15:56.71 we'll go to a place I heard so much about. 00:15:56.74\00:15:59.49 Sunrise Children's Home 00:15:59.52\00:16:01.62 and we'll see how it witnessing for the Lord 00:16:01.65\00:16:04.74 to the community around here. 00:16:04.77\00:16:06.78 Don't go away we'll be right back. 00:16:06.81\00:16:10.18 My wife Angela and I are here in Andhra Pradesh, India, 00:16:23.30\00:16:26.95 visiting some of the Asian Aid projects 00:16:26.98\00:16:28.74 to see for ourselves 00:16:28.77\00:16:30.32 how the work that is being done here 00:16:30.35\00:16:31.83 is transforming lives, 00:16:31.86\00:16:33.76 especially lives of orphaned children 00:16:33.79\00:16:36.63 and abandoned children, 00:16:36.66\00:16:37.93 children from the tribal communities. 00:16:37.96\00:16:40.45 And we've discovered that 00:16:40.48\00:16:41.51 because of sponsors like you, they now have a place 00:16:41.54\00:16:43.86 that they can call home. 00:16:43.89\00:16:45.58 They have wonderful clothing, nutritious food 00:16:45.61\00:16:47.98 and they are being prepared to propel themselves 00:16:48.01\00:16:51.32 into the future for a promising career. 00:16:51.35\00:16:54.08 But above all that because of sponsors like you 00:16:54.11\00:16:57.05 they now have hope, hope for a better future. 00:16:57.08\00:17:01.27 Asian Aid USA has been involved in projects 00:17:18.48\00:17:21.44 in and around the Bobbili town for a number of years. 00:17:21.47\00:17:25.10 The school for the blind 00:17:25.13\00:17:26.16 is a fine example of their conviction, 00:17:26.19\00:17:28.78 a Christian organization that is committed 00:17:28.81\00:17:31.68 to providing opportunities for those in need. 00:17:31.71\00:17:35.34 Getting from one place to another requires 00:17:37.88\00:17:40.41 quite a bit of travel 00:17:40.44\00:17:42.12 and I use this time with Jim in the car 00:17:42.15\00:17:44.81 to learn a bit more about Asian Aid. 00:17:44.84\00:17:48.05 How did Asian Aid get started? 00:17:48.08\00:17:51.72 Well, Asian Aid started 40 years ago 00:17:51.75\00:17:55.10 by start of Australia. 00:17:55.13\00:17:57.64 Our cofounder Helen Eager actually came to India 00:17:57.67\00:18:03.13 where she met up with Dorothy Watts, 00:18:03.16\00:18:05.33 Pastor Watts was the division president on that time. 00:18:05.36\00:18:09.12 And the first orphanage 00:18:09.15\00:18:12.25 Sunshine Home started in Bangalore. 00:18:12.28\00:18:14.52 In fact, Mrs. Watts had the home in her house. 00:18:14.55\00:18:18.80 And then Helen saw the need for sponsorship 00:18:18.83\00:18:22.58 and it grew from there and now between us 00:18:22.61\00:18:27.54 and Asian Aid Australia there are about 00:18:27.57\00:18:30.52 just under 8,000 children than have sponsorship. 00:18:30.55\00:18:33.50 Wow, that's amazing. 00:18:33.53\00:18:34.89 Yeah. 00:18:34.92\00:18:37.60 That afternoon we stopped 00:18:37.63\00:18:39.42 by the Seventh-day Adventist school 00:18:39.45\00:18:41.30 in Bobbili town. 00:18:41.33\00:18:43.23 Asian Aid has undertaken 00:18:43.26\00:18:44.67 some development projects recently 00:18:44.70\00:18:47.02 and sponsors a number of students here. 00:18:47.05\00:18:49.49 I have just visited 00:18:51.14\00:18:52.70 a couple of the classrooms in this school. 00:18:52.73\00:18:55.23 This is a Seventh-day Adventist school 00:18:55.26\00:18:57.27 right in the middle of Bobbili town. 00:18:57.30\00:18:59.65 It's packed with kids that come here. 00:18:59.68\00:19:02.27 They are eager to learn, this is also the school 00:19:02.30\00:19:06.08 where the children from Sunrise Home 00:19:06.11\00:19:08.77 come to learn. 00:19:08.80\00:19:10.13 India is a large country 00:19:13.12\00:19:15.46 and traveling on projects here 00:19:15.49\00:19:17.07 involves quite a bit of sacrifice. 00:19:17.10\00:19:19.75 But despite all that I realized Jim and his team in India 00:19:19.78\00:19:23.75 are driven by a passion to work for the welfare of children 00:19:23.78\00:19:28.58 and the community at large. 00:19:28.61\00:19:30.85 We arrived the Sunrise Home and I immediately understood 00:19:34.51\00:19:38.40 why so many people were talking to me about it. 00:19:38.43\00:19:41.70 It is a beautiful campus surrounded by greenery. 00:19:41.73\00:19:45.50 Most of the children were at the school in town 00:19:45.53\00:19:48.21 and so only a handful of newcomers were there. 00:19:48.24\00:19:51.85 So I met with Lalitha Varma the director of the home 00:19:51.88\00:19:56.08 who showed me around and told me 00:19:56.11\00:19:58.42 how God truly blesses and protects them. 00:19:58.45\00:20:02.26 As a mother I feel great that 00:20:02.29\00:20:05.95 we have shelter, food, clothing. 00:20:05.98\00:20:09.63 And children if they don't have parents 00:20:09.66\00:20:12.99 they are birds without nest but it like a nest now. 00:20:13.02\00:20:18.12 What's your name? 00:20:19.42\00:20:20.58 My name is Vijay. 00:20:20.61\00:20:22.16 Okay. 00:20:22.19\00:20:23.37 How old are you? 00:20:23.40\00:20:24.87 And do you like to live here? 00:20:26.56\00:20:28.91 It's hard to imagine 00:20:30.76\00:20:33.68 that some of these very children 00:20:33.71\00:20:34.96 that are here around me have lived on the streets, 00:20:34.99\00:20:39.67 on the roads, their beds, 00:20:39.70\00:20:42.79 the pavement, the dirt, 00:20:42.82\00:20:45.13 because they have no parents, no family, no where to turn. 00:20:45.16\00:20:48.99 The work that we do, Jesus said, 00:20:49.02\00:20:51.43 if we do them for the little children 00:20:51.46\00:20:53.91 we have done that for Him. 00:20:53.94\00:20:57.02 We can all do something. 00:20:57.05\00:20:58.64 We can all make a difference in the lives 00:20:58.67\00:21:01.13 of some of these young people that we may never see 00:21:01.16\00:21:04.93 but are otherwise lost, stranded, hopeless, doomed. 00:21:04.96\00:21:11.03 But there is hope, 00:21:11.06\00:21:12.80 lives are being changed right here in this place. 00:21:12.83\00:21:16.90 Sabbath morning was a celebration. 00:21:24.55\00:21:27.26 A huge tent was erected 00:21:27.29\00:21:29.30 right in the middle of Sunrise Home 00:21:29.33\00:21:32.10 and church members from nearby villages 00:21:32.13\00:21:34.21 and towns are invited. 00:21:34.24\00:21:36.65 I was fortunate to share a bit of my life testimony 00:21:36.68\00:21:40.36 and play some music for them. 00:21:40.39\00:21:42.92 After the service scores of people came 00:21:42.95\00:21:45.69 asking for me to pray for them. 00:21:45.72\00:21:48.19 It was very humbling. 00:21:48.22\00:21:50.14 Who am I to bless them, I wondered? 00:21:50.17\00:21:53.07 But I made me realize I'm a servant of God 00:21:53.10\00:21:57.01 and I was there to glorify His name 00:21:57.04\00:21:59.25 through my testimony and music. 00:21:59.28\00:22:05.56 Our service this morning at Sunrise Home 00:22:05.59\00:22:07.99 has been an absolute blessing. 00:22:08.02\00:22:10.40 It was a blessing for me personally. 00:22:10.43\00:22:12.68 We started out and people just kept coming and coming. 00:22:12.71\00:22:16.25 We had set up 600 chairs 00:22:16.28\00:22:18.28 and even in a rain people kept on coming. 00:22:18.31\00:22:22.63 We had to set out another 200 chairs. 00:22:22.66\00:22:25.85 When I made an appeal 00:22:25.88\00:22:27.38 for people to give their hearts to Jesus 00:22:27.41\00:22:29.26 and rededicate their lives 00:22:29.29\00:22:31.35 so many folks stood up, it was unbelievable. 00:22:31.38\00:22:34.69 And then afterwards as we prayed 00:22:34.72\00:22:36.94 people were crying and you could sense 00:22:36.97\00:22:39.20 that the Holy Spirit was moving in a very powerful way. 00:22:39.23\00:22:42.27 People from all over the community have come 00:22:42.30\00:22:45.21 and keep on coming to Sunrise Home. 00:22:45.24\00:22:48.32 There are folks from around the area, 00:22:48.35\00:22:50.81 the villages that are here, this place is a blessing. 00:22:50.84\00:22:54.78 That's what Sunrise Home is about, 00:22:54.81\00:22:56.74 its about reaching people 00:22:56.77\00:22:58.59 and bringing those that are around, 00:22:58.62\00:23:00.77 that are in the darkness into the light. 00:23:00.80\00:23:03.16 Sunrise Home, praise God. 00:23:03.19\00:23:06.02 That afternoon I was given the honor 00:23:08.60\00:23:11.13 of opening and dedicating 00:23:11.16\00:23:12.90 the new boy's dorm at Sunrise Home. 00:23:12.93\00:23:16.41 Praise God for Sunrise Home 00:23:16.44\00:23:19.69 for the work that they are doing. 00:23:19.72\00:23:21.11 May God continue to bless Sunrise Home 00:23:21.14\00:23:24.00 and praise God for the work that Asian Aid USA is doing. 00:23:24.03\00:23:28.71 And so it is my great privilege right now 00:23:28.74\00:23:32.64 to cut the ribbon. 00:23:32.67\00:23:34.48 The inauguration of the boy's dorm that afternoon 00:23:37.59\00:23:40.81 was a moving experience for me. 00:23:40.84\00:23:43.56 This was an underserved honor but it was gratifying to see 00:23:43.59\00:23:48.07 that positive impact this dorm is already making 00:23:48.10\00:23:52.11 in the lives of this children that are living here. 00:23:52.14\00:23:55.27 Sunrise Children Home, boy's dormitory 00:24:02.48\00:24:05.96 inaugurated by Elder Jaime Jorge, 00:24:05.99\00:24:08.65 Asian Aid USA ambassador on August second 2014. 00:24:08.68\00:24:15.01 I'm here overlooking 00:24:26.11\00:24:27.88 the beautiful campus of Sunrise Home, 00:24:27.91\00:24:30.96 a place in the middle of nowhere in Karada village. 00:24:30.99\00:24:35.14 You know, when I was growing up I had a wonderful family, 00:24:35.17\00:24:39.08 I had parents that taught me to love 00:24:39.11\00:24:40.75 and serve Jesus 00:24:40.78\00:24:42.28 but there was something I didn't have, 00:24:42.31\00:24:45.10 the opportunity to go to a Christian school. 00:24:45.13\00:24:48.46 The orphans that are here don't have a lot of things 00:24:48.49\00:24:52.58 but they do have the opportunity 00:24:52.61\00:24:55.38 and the privilege to learn about Jesus Christ 00:24:55.41\00:24:58.57 from the moment that they arrive. 00:24:58.60\00:25:00.80 Sunrise Home is a place that gives young people 00:25:00.83\00:25:05.23 the opportunity to have hope and light 00:25:05.26\00:25:08.13 from the moment that they walk in 00:25:08.16\00:25:10.51 through the front gate. 00:25:10.54\00:25:12.17 Stepping down from the water tower that day 00:25:19.99\00:25:22.93 I realized how we can all make a difference in this world. 00:25:22.96\00:25:29.00 We have the opportunity to give hope. 00:25:29.03\00:25:31.70 We have the opportunity to show Jesus 00:25:31.73\00:25:34.28 to those who don't know him. 00:25:34.31\00:25:36.56 And we have the opportunity 00:25:36.59\00:25:38.63 to make a difference in people's lives. 00:25:38.66\00:25:42.15 I'm grateful that I had that opportunity. 00:25:42.18\00:25:47.16 Well, this is the end of my trip here in India. 00:25:47.19\00:25:50.07 Over the last few days we have visited places 00:25:50.10\00:25:53.41 and I have seen things 00:25:53.44\00:25:54.49 that I never imagined ever existed. 00:25:54.52\00:25:56.57 We went to a slum school, 00:25:56.60\00:25:59.49 then we ventured off into the country 00:25:59.52\00:26:01.83 to visit a school that is being remodeled and rebuilt 00:26:01.86\00:26:04.59 so that its students can learn properly. 00:26:04.62\00:26:07.16 And then we had the opportunity to go to a beautiful orphanage 00:26:07.19\00:26:10.46 as well as the blind school. 00:26:10.49\00:26:12.58 I was told that my visit here 00:26:12.61\00:26:14.21 would be a blessing and joy to people 00:26:14.24\00:26:16.03 but in reality I have been the one 00:26:16.06\00:26:18.29 who has been blessed and touched. 00:26:18.32\00:26:20.56 You see, I'm seeing hope in the eyes 00:26:20.59\00:26:23.68 of the precious young people that are in these schools. 00:26:23.71\00:26:26.94 Without the help of Asian Aid USA, 00:26:26.97\00:26:29.67 its donors and sponsors this would not be possible. 00:26:29.70\00:26:33.30 But now so many children have hope and assurance. 00:26:33.33\00:26:38.77
