In this episode of Hope in Motion, 00:00:02.08\00:00:04.29 we take a look at how your contributions are making 00:00:04.32\00:00:07.19 positive changes in the lives of so many children in India. 00:00:07.22\00:00:11.54 Sixty to seventy percent we are dependent on the sponsorship. 00:00:11.57\00:00:16.82 Without the support of any sponsorship 00:00:16.85\00:00:19.99 those children would not be here. 00:00:20.02\00:00:22.69 We visit an Adventist school 00:00:22.72\00:00:24.54 that sprung from one woman's vision 00:00:24.57\00:00:26.75 to a sprawling beautiful campus today. 00:00:26.78\00:00:30.06 It just sort of amazes me when I think of, you know, 00:00:30.09\00:00:32.93 what we started from with absolutely nothing. 00:00:32.96\00:00:36.68 To see what is there today is just, 00:00:36.71\00:00:39.54 it's just mind boggling, really. 00:00:39.57\00:00:42.09 And meet Devoki, a science teacher at the school 00:00:42.12\00:00:45.26 who defied all social norms to pursue a life of her own. 00:00:45.29\00:00:49.59 In villages that is a rule that when a girl is grown up, 00:00:49.62\00:00:53.37 she should be given in marriage to someone. 00:00:53.40\00:00:57.34 So in my case also it would have been like that 00:00:57.37\00:00:59.50 when I would not have been come to this school and study, 00:00:59.53\00:01:01.79 by this time I would have been got married, 00:01:01.82\00:01:03.93 having children, all those things 00:01:03.96\00:01:06.30 India is a land full of contrast. 00:01:16.10\00:01:20.96 It's a land of great mystery and beauty. 00:01:20.99\00:01:24.41 It's a land of unspeakable despair. 00:01:24.44\00:01:27.81 By traveling through India one thing is for sure, 00:01:27.84\00:01:31.35 it's a land filled with people 00:01:31.38\00:01:32.82 who should never be underestimated. 00:01:32.85\00:01:36.46 For the last 40 years, 00:01:36.49\00:01:37.97 Asian Aid has invested in the futures of people 00:01:38.00\00:01:40.88 who have never been given such a chance 00:01:40.91\00:01:43.12 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:01:43.15\00:01:47.81 Driven by the vision of Helen Eager, 00:01:47.84\00:01:49.84 dedicated to helping those who have the least, 00:01:49.87\00:01:52.77 Asian Aid is an organization 00:01:52.80\00:01:54.35 implementing diverse development projects 00:01:54.38\00:01:56.60 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:01:56.63\00:02:00.10 Their outreach spans from Bangladesh to Nepal, 00:02:00.13\00:02:03.11 Srilanka and beyond. 00:02:03.14\00:02:05.70 From remote villages and empty fields 00:02:05.73\00:02:08.10 to sprawling centers of education, 00:02:08.13\00:02:10.77 from nothing to the unimaginable. 00:02:10.80\00:02:14.56 Now Asian Aid decided to document the work 00:02:14.59\00:02:17.67 it has been doing all these years 00:02:17.70\00:02:19.24 with the desire to show the world what is possible. 00:02:19.27\00:02:22.77 By digging wells in remote villages 00:02:22.80\00:02:24.58 for clean drinking water 00:02:24.61\00:02:26.33 and bringing much needed healthcare 00:02:26.36\00:02:27.93 to the women of Nepal. 00:02:27.96\00:02:30.48 By providing an education for orphans, 00:02:30.51\00:02:32.63 deaf and blind children, giving them a sense of place, a home 00:02:32.66\00:02:37.13 but what we really discovered was being given was hope. 00:02:37.16\00:02:40.92 Giving hope to children, giving hope to women, 00:02:40.95\00:02:45.48 giving hope to the one's who needed the most. 00:02:45.51\00:02:49.44 This is Hope in Motion. 00:02:49.47\00:02:51.79 The beautiful landscapes, its people, 00:03:09.13\00:03:11.91 the colors and customs, that's India in a nutshell. 00:03:11.94\00:03:16.08 Asian Aid has been working in this vast land 00:03:26.26\00:03:28.77 since its very beginning which is nearly 40 years ago now. 00:03:28.80\00:03:32.90 Primarily focused on child sponsorship 00:03:32.93\00:03:35.57 Asian Aid also has been instrumental 00:03:35.60\00:03:37.82 in building many children's homes and schools 00:03:37.85\00:03:40.58 to complement its sponsorship program. 00:03:40.61\00:03:43.41 The Immanuel English School in Jeypore 00:03:43.44\00:03:45.79 in the state of Orissa 00:03:45.82\00:03:47.28 is one that has undergone a transformation. 00:03:47.31\00:03:50.81 In the beginning we just-- 00:03:50.84\00:03:52.60 we were sort of picturing may be, 00:03:52.63\00:03:54.24 you know, just a small boarding school. 00:03:54.27\00:03:55.99 We were thinking a lot of the very primitive 00:03:56.02\00:03:58.16 tribal people that are there in Orissa, 00:03:58.19\00:04:00.39 especially the bonda tribals was what, you know, 00:04:00.42\00:04:03.02 we had on our minds when we started the school. 00:04:03.05\00:04:06.37 Jeypore and most parts of Orissa 00:04:06.40\00:04:08.51 come under the so called "tribal belt" of India, 00:04:08.54\00:04:11.38 where primitive tribal people live. 00:04:11.41\00:04:13.82 Cut off from the mainstream societies, 00:04:13.85\00:04:16.18 they live in the mountains and remote regions 00:04:16.21\00:04:18.49 with no basic amenities, largely living off of the land. 00:04:18.52\00:04:22.51 Helen Eager, co-founder of Asian Aid 00:04:29.55\00:04:31.95 has been visiting these communities, 00:04:31.98\00:04:33.98 especially the bonda tribe. 00:04:34.01\00:04:36.41 Moved by their backwardness and the plight of the children 00:04:36.44\00:04:39.42 from these communities 00:04:39.45\00:04:40.72 she started a school for them at Jeypore. 00:04:40.75\00:04:43.70 Starting with around 50 children 00:04:43.73\00:04:45.68 and a few staff all under one roof 00:04:45.71\00:04:48.39 and without a boundary wall 00:04:48.42\00:04:49.67 to protect them from wild animals 00:04:49.70\00:04:51.96 it was a testing time for the children, 00:04:51.99\00:04:54.13 the staff and for Principal Arun Ponda. 00:04:54.16\00:04:58.53 And once Mrs. Eager brought Elder Garwin McNeilus 00:04:58.56\00:05:02.74 and his wife to visit this place. 00:05:02.77\00:05:06.20 So once when he came over here he was very much impressed 00:05:06.23\00:05:11.62 with the way children are learning over here 00:05:11.65\00:05:16.01 and he felt that he will do something, 00:05:16.04\00:05:18.75 he'll take up this project. 00:05:18.78\00:05:21.34 Garwin McNeilus an Adventist businessman from Minnesota 00:05:21.37\00:05:25.03 impressed by what was being done at the school 00:05:25.06\00:05:27.53 took up the project of building a larger facility in 2004. 00:05:27.56\00:05:32.47 Within a year the first phase of the new campus was ready 00:05:32.50\00:05:35.61 and year later it had grown to what it is now. 00:05:35.64\00:05:40.58 We just feel surprised how the things have changed. 00:05:40.61\00:05:46.18 Everything was just like the hill that you see behind 00:05:46.21\00:05:51.40 full of bushes and unwanted plants. 00:05:51.43\00:05:54.98 So nobody from town ever thought 00:05:55.01\00:05:58.00 that there can be something here, 00:05:58.03\00:06:00.89 but God has blessed this place and we can see a great change. 00:06:00.92\00:06:07.71 It just sort of amazes me when I think of, you know, 00:06:07.74\00:06:10.46 what we started from with absolutely nothing. 00:06:10.49\00:06:14.14 To see what is there today is just, 00:06:14.17\00:06:16.91 it's just mind boggling, really. 00:06:16.94\00:06:19.01 The larger facility made it possible to bring in 00:06:32.68\00:06:35.30 more children from the tribal communities 00:06:35.33\00:06:37.52 as well as nearby villages. 00:06:37.55\00:06:39.76 As the news of the new facility spread, 00:06:39.79\00:06:42.05 many more children from Adventist 00:06:42.08\00:06:44.17 and non-Adventist families 00:06:44.20\00:06:45.95 desired to be educated at the new school. 00:06:45.98\00:06:48.50 Many in rural India struggle to earn even two dollars a day. 00:06:52.88\00:06:56.83 Their only way of earning a living 00:06:56.86\00:06:58.50 is grazing their livestock or working in the fields. 00:06:58.53\00:07:01.82 Here, poverty passes from generation to generation 00:07:01.85\00:07:05.49 and education is not an option. 00:07:05.52\00:07:08.44 I mean some parts of India really seem to be growing 00:07:08.47\00:07:11.17 and really, you know, India seems to be really 00:07:11.20\00:07:13.52 coming up as they say but when you go the villages 00:07:13.55\00:07:16.42 and the slums they have not improved in all the years that, 00:07:16.45\00:07:20.43 you know, that I have been coming to India 00:07:20.46\00:07:21.84 which is now more than 30 years. 00:07:21.87\00:07:24.24 You know, when you to the villages and you see 00:07:24.27\00:07:26.35 and to some of the slums and you see how bad, 00:07:26.38\00:07:29.34 you know, the conditions are that the people 00:07:29.37\00:07:31.34 and the children living under because this often 00:07:31.37\00:07:34.19 its not that they don't want to work 00:07:34.22\00:07:35.65 but there is just not enough work available. 00:07:35.68\00:07:38.59 Although the majority of the people cannot afford 00:07:38.62\00:07:41.23 to send their children to school, 00:07:41.26\00:07:43.04 they do view education as a catalyst for change. 00:07:43.07\00:07:46.95 Sixty to seventy percent we are dependent on the sponsorship 00:07:46.98\00:07:53.38 because majority of this children are poor 00:07:53.41\00:07:56.47 and they don't have any support. 00:07:56.50\00:08:01.97 Without the support of any sponsorship 00:08:02.00\00:08:04.95 those children would not be here. 00:08:04.98\00:08:07.87 Today, over 6,000 children in India are sponsored by Asian Aid 00:08:07.90\00:08:12.66 and because of their commitment to the welfare of children 00:08:12.69\00:08:15.59 especially children from tribal communities and villages, 00:08:15.62\00:08:19.36 these children are reaping the benefit 00:08:19.39\00:08:21.44 of an Adventist education. 00:08:21.47\00:08:23.35 Devoki Moharia, a science teacher 00:08:49.44\00:08:51.68 at the Immanuel English School was a former student here. 00:08:51.71\00:08:55.78 I finished my B.sc degree in college 00:08:55.81\00:08:59.39 and I'm very much interested in science 00:08:59.42\00:09:01.87 because I was good at science. 00:09:01.90\00:09:04.64 In this school I teach mostly eighth, ninth and tenth. 00:09:04.67\00:09:08.52 I teach them chemistry and biology. 00:09:08.55\00:09:12.04 Devoki was among the first batch of children 00:09:12.07\00:09:14.64 to be brought to the school from neighboring villages 00:09:14.67\00:09:17.52 when Helen Eager and some of the staff from the school 00:09:17.55\00:09:20.21 visited these villages. 00:09:20.24\00:09:22.06 I sent messages to the church pastors 00:09:22.09\00:09:26.12 if there are any children from the poverty level 00:09:26.15\00:09:29.86 and wherever there are no schools. 00:09:29.89\00:09:32.92 So many names came from different churches. 00:09:32.95\00:09:38.28 Then, first I went to some orphan children 00:09:38.31\00:09:42.15 then I came to know there are two girls, 00:09:42.18\00:09:45.45 very small girls nearby Kotpat town. 00:09:45.48\00:09:49.17 So I went there and I met with her father Deboki. 00:09:49.20\00:09:55.87 Then her father was not willing to send the girl here 00:09:55.90\00:10:01.52 because there was no boundary around 00:10:01.55\00:10:03.72 and there was only one building built by Asian Aid. 00:10:03.75\00:10:08.22 Then when I went she was the smallest among the two. 00:10:08.25\00:10:12.62 Then she started crying not to take photo. 00:10:12.65\00:10:16.19 I carried her, I gave her a chocolate. 00:10:16.22\00:10:19.83 Then I made her to stand then I took a photograph 00:10:19.86\00:10:23.60 for mommy Eager and that's how I found her. 00:10:23.63\00:10:27.83 I was very happy thinking that I'm going to go to a school, 00:10:27.86\00:10:30.95 a hostel, English medium. 00:10:30.98\00:10:33.04 No one knows in my school what is English. 00:10:33.07\00:10:35.00 Means they don't know how to talk in English and all 00:10:35.03\00:10:37.34 so I was very happy that I will be the person 00:10:37.37\00:10:39.28 to learn English and all. 00:10:39.31\00:10:41.08 So when I came here first two or three days I was nervous 00:10:41.11\00:10:44.23 means I used to remember parents all those things 00:10:44.26\00:10:46.47 and only one single building was there 00:10:46.50\00:10:48.96 and no boundary, it was like a jungle and jungle means 00:10:48.99\00:10:52.25 I really get very, very scared of that. 00:10:52.28\00:10:55.42 And no boundary no nothing, only one building was there 00:10:55.45\00:10:58.36 boys, girls, staff everyone in the same building 00:10:58.39\00:11:01.57 doing all the activities eating, sleeping, studying 00:11:01.60\00:11:04.71 everything in the same building. 00:11:04.74\00:11:06.82 With the untiring efforts of Helen Eager 00:11:06.85\00:11:09.52 and the prayers of staff and children 00:11:09.55\00:11:11.73 the small school was transformed into huge campus. 00:11:11.76\00:11:16.53 And like a miracle suddenly Garwin Papa and Mama came here. 00:11:16.56\00:11:21.22 So we think and we believe that 00:11:21.25\00:11:23.57 God himself has chosen this people 00:11:23.60\00:11:25.55 and He has sent to help His children 00:11:25.58\00:11:28.13 so that many more souls will be added into His kingdom. 00:11:28.16\00:11:31.48 From right at the beginning 00:11:31.51\00:11:32.69 when this school was just one class room 00:11:32.72\00:11:34.90 then with the vision of Helen Eager 00:11:34.93\00:11:37.18 and supporters like Garwin McNeilus 00:11:37.21\00:11:39.70 this school spread into an institution 00:11:39.73\00:11:42.53 that now has I think about 700 children 00:11:42.56\00:11:45.79 and of those 600 responsive 00:11:45.82\00:11:48.37 and now we see the success stories coming through. 00:11:48.40\00:11:51.40 Devoki, who was right at the school when it started, 00:11:51.43\00:11:55.01 she did her education at the school 00:11:55.04\00:11:57.17 then she went away to university 00:11:57.20\00:11:59.30 and now she has come back as a science teacher. 00:11:59.33\00:12:02.09 It's just so fantastic to see the difference 00:12:02.12\00:12:04.89 that has made with her 00:12:04.92\00:12:06.40 but also with the children that are here. 00:12:06.43\00:12:09.79 If it weren't for the timely intervention of Asian Aid 00:12:09.82\00:12:13.13 and people like Helen Eager, Devoki Maharia's life 00:12:13.16\00:12:16.62 would have seen the same misfortunes 00:12:16.65\00:12:18.86 of so many young girls just like her in her village. 00:12:18.89\00:12:23.14 In villages that is a rule that when a girl is grown up, 00:12:23.17\00:12:26.78 she should be given in marriage to someone. 00:12:26.81\00:12:30.72 So in my case also it would have been like that 00:12:30.75\00:12:32.93 when I would not have been come to this school and study. 00:12:32.96\00:12:35.22 By this time I would have been got married, 00:12:35.25\00:12:37.36 having children, all those things. 00:12:37.39\00:12:39.59 My wife Angela and I are here in Andhra Pradesh, India 00:12:53.55\00:12:56.89 visiting some of the Asian Aid projects to see for ourselves 00:12:56.92\00:13:00.38 how the work that is being done here is transforming lives. 00:13:00.41\00:13:03.80 Especially the lives of orphaned children and abandoned children, 00:13:03.83\00:13:08.07 children from the tribal communities 00:13:08.10\00:13:10.73 and we have discovered that because of sponsors like you 00:13:10.76\00:13:13.06 they now have a place that they can call home, 00:13:13.09\00:13:15.60 they have wonderful clothing, nutritious food 00:13:15.63\00:13:18.03 and they are being prepared to propel themselves 00:13:18.06\00:13:21.37 into the future for a promising career. 00:13:21.40\00:13:24.09 But above all that because of sponsors like you 00:13:24.12\00:13:27.17 they now have hope, hope for a better future. 00:13:27.20\00:13:30.61 My name is Sue Smith and I am an Asian Aid sponsor. 00:13:43.41\00:13:46.18 I am here in India visiting our sponsored children. 00:13:46.21\00:13:49.62 I have seen the difference that Asian Aid 00:13:49.65\00:13:51.63 makes in the life of a child, it's a real change 00:13:51.66\00:13:55.25 and I appreciate the work that Asian Aid does here. 00:13:55.28\00:13:57.80 Well, I am here in Sunrise Home with Sheela. 00:14:12.40\00:14:15.21 Now my family and I have been sponsoring Sheela 00:14:15.24\00:14:17.64 for just about a year now and I can tell you being here 00:14:17.67\00:14:20.88 and spending time with her I can see the difference 00:14:20.91\00:14:23.56 the sponsorship is making in her life. 00:14:23.59\00:14:25.88 She now has plenty of food, she has a beautiful place 00:14:25.91\00:14:28.65 to sleep each night, she has clothes, 00:14:28.68\00:14:31.01 she has a school uniform and an excellent education. 00:14:31.04\00:14:34.68 I can tell you it's made a difference in her life 00:14:34.71\00:14:37.50 and it's made a difference in our lives too. 00:14:37.53\00:14:40.03 Now through sponsorship you too 00:14:40.06\00:14:42.23 can make a difference in the life of a child everyday. 00:14:42.26\00:14:45.40 Life in rural India is simple. 00:15:12.91\00:15:15.30 People live closed quarters and as a unit. 00:15:15.33\00:15:18.18 During the day they either go to the field 00:15:22.24\00:15:24.30 or they graze what little livestock they have. 00:15:24.33\00:15:27.29 There is a clear order of social precedence based on gender. 00:15:27.32\00:15:31.26 Women have little or no say in its structure 00:15:31.29\00:15:34.00 often leading to unjust practices and misery. 00:15:34.03\00:15:37.97 In villages parents they are uneducated 00:15:38.00\00:15:40.27 and they don't send to the 00:15:40.30\00:15:43.61 children when they are small to the school. 00:15:43.64\00:15:46.04 So that is the reason I never went to school. 00:15:46.07\00:15:48.89 In villages that is a rule that when a girl is grown up, 00:15:48.92\00:15:52.79 she should be given in marriage to someone. 00:15:52.82\00:15:56.56 So in my case also it would have been like that 00:15:56.59\00:15:58.82 when I would not have been come to this school and study. 00:15:58.85\00:16:01.03 By this time I would have been got married, 00:16:01.06\00:16:03.33 having children, all those things 00:16:03.36\00:16:06.57 Child marriage is a common practice in south Asia 00:16:06.60\00:16:09.57 and it's more prevalent in India. 00:16:09.60\00:16:11.96 According to the United Nations Children's Agency, 00:16:11.99\00:16:14.85 Unicef, 18 percent of girls are married by the age of 15. 00:16:14.88\00:16:20.34 Although Indian law has made child marriage illegal 00:16:20.37\00:16:23.69 and the practice is in decline in recent years, 00:16:23.72\00:16:26.45 customs and traditions dictate life in rural India. 00:16:26.48\00:16:30.27 It is like so in Devoki's village, Basuli. 00:16:30.30\00:16:34.02 At present I don't have any of my friends to my age. 00:16:34.05\00:16:36.82 Only I'm the girl in my village, 00:16:36.85\00:16:39.00 all are younger to me, all have got married. 00:16:39.03\00:16:42.75 By now she would have got married 00:16:42.78\00:16:44.93 if she would not have studied here. 00:16:44.96\00:16:46.79 By now she would have got married, 00:16:46.82\00:16:48.92 so by now she would have been lost in that way. 00:16:48.95\00:16:52.19 But now she is in God's hand. 00:16:52.22\00:16:54.92 She is doing wonderful. 00:16:54.95\00:16:57.85 If my daughter didn't go to school like others 00:16:57.88\00:17:00.34 and get an education her life would have been like others. 00:17:00.37\00:17:03.13 Although Devoki grew up in a boarding school in Jeypore 00:17:28.07\00:17:31.36 and went to college in bigger cities 00:17:31.39\00:17:33.44 she has not forgotten her roots 00:17:33.47\00:17:35.43 and is always happy to visit her family in her village. 00:17:35.46\00:17:40.85 Yeah, I feel very happy because 00:17:40.88\00:17:42.93 I'm born and brought up in this village 00:17:42.96\00:17:44.97 and even though I stay in a town or something now 00:17:45.00\00:17:47.88 but I still have love for my village, for my family members. 00:17:47.91\00:17:51.60 I feel very happy when I come back to my home and see them. 00:17:51.63\00:17:55.97 Devoki is the only girl from her village 00:17:56.00\00:17:58.41 to have successfully received a college education 00:17:58.44\00:18:02.06 and in a community where women have little or no say, 00:18:02.09\00:18:05.67 she is treated with the utmost of respect. 00:18:05.70\00:18:11.57 We feel very proud whenever someone comes to visit us 00:18:11.60\00:18:14.94 we always tell tem about our daughter. 00:18:14.97\00:18:16.89 When she comes here we are very happy and proud. 00:18:16.92\00:18:19.53 Boys and girls from under privileged backgrounds 00:18:29.05\00:18:31.64 are today able to follow in the footsteps 00:18:31.67\00:18:34.26 of someone like Devoki. 00:18:34.29\00:18:36.45 It's because of institutions like Immanuel English School 00:18:36.48\00:18:39.56 and the people who envisioned it to make a difference 00:18:39.59\00:18:42.58 in the lives of so many children. 00:18:42.61\00:18:45.61 Well, as an administrator who travels to India regularly 00:18:45.64\00:18:49.28 we just faced with so many challenges and demands 00:18:49.31\00:18:53.17 and it's just so refreshing to stop 00:18:53.20\00:18:56.50 and think about the actual blessing that we have. 00:18:56.53\00:18:59.88 We receive the problems but we lose side of the children, 00:18:59.91\00:19:03.50 the children who are in the schools, 00:19:03.53\00:19:05.69 the children who we've made a difference with. 00:19:05.72\00:19:08.19 Ellen White said, Education is the harmonious development 00:19:11.76\00:19:15.40 of the physical, mental, spiritual powers 00:19:15.43\00:19:19.15 It prepares the student 00:19:19.18\00:19:20.63 for the joy of service in this world 00:19:20.66\00:19:22.85 and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come. 00:19:22.88\00:19:26.87 The school campus although situated 00:19:26.90\00:19:29.02 in remote region of one of India's backward states 00:19:29.05\00:19:32.83 is a fine example of true Adventist education. 00:19:32.86\00:19:37.24 The local community feels that 00:19:37.27\00:19:39.60 this is the best campus that we have. 00:19:39.63\00:19:42.88 And no school has such a campus 00:19:42.91\00:19:45.36 and there is peaceful atmosphere, atmosphere to study. 00:19:45.39\00:19:51.58 There is no disturbance and everyone feels that 00:19:51.61\00:19:56.66 their child should be educated here. 00:19:56.69\00:19:58.51 Taking care of such a large campus requires hard work 00:20:00.18\00:20:03.86 but for principal Ponda that's not an issue. 00:20:03.89\00:20:07.08 Every child and staff member living on campus 00:20:07.11\00:20:10.18 has their work cut out and they do it with enthusiasm. 00:20:10.21\00:20:14.82 I traveled to many schools in India 00:20:14.85\00:20:16.82 but it's just so delightful to come to this one at Jeypore 00:20:16.85\00:20:20.21 because when you walk in the gate the grounds, the trees, 00:20:20.24\00:20:24.59 they always keep it clean, they repaint from time to time. 00:20:24.62\00:20:29.13 The children are involved in doing the maintenance 00:20:29.16\00:20:32.10 and doing the gardens and that just makes a total difference 00:20:32.13\00:20:35.82 not only in the grounds 00:20:35.85\00:20:37.50 but in the development of the children themselves. 00:20:37.53\00:20:41.05 A harmonious development indeed. 00:20:41.08\00:20:43.70 Education in India is highly competitive 00:20:54.08\00:20:56.75 and the school is big and beautiful as it may be 00:20:56.78\00:21:00.49 has to compete with other institutions 00:21:00.52\00:21:02.97 for it to be influential 00:21:03.00\00:21:04.61 and to continue to be held in high regard. 00:21:04.64\00:21:07.95 The trend of education is changing 00:21:07.98\00:21:10.74 and the latest we have the digital classes. 00:21:10.77\00:21:14.76 And as you know throughout India there is a 00:21:14.79\00:21:17.83 change in the education system 00:21:17.86\00:21:20.40 and we want to go with the latest technology 00:21:20.43\00:21:23.41 and that is why we opted for this digital class. 00:21:23.44\00:21:26.55 It is very user friendly, students also can operate. 00:21:26.58\00:21:30.17 It's just like a TV remote. 00:21:30.20\00:21:33.13 Even if the teacher is absent still they have the subjects, 00:21:33.16\00:21:36.79 they have the chapters and they have the evaluation test. 00:21:36.82\00:21:40.60 The students can themselves take the test on there by themselves 00:21:40.63\00:21:45.02 and they can know what score they are getting 00:21:45.05\00:21:47.10 in particular chapter or lesson. 00:21:47.13\00:21:49.85 Whatever the student need to understand, 00:21:49.88\00:21:52.39 everything is given clearly. 00:21:52.42\00:21:54.38 And whatever the teacher is teaching in the classroom, 00:21:54.41\00:21:57.46 and what questions they have finished in the classroom, 00:21:57.49\00:22:00.86 they can, we can access that in the server room. 00:22:00.89\00:22:06.04 Cutting edge technology for the changing times. 00:22:06.07\00:22:09.82 Today, they Immanuel English School at Jeypore, 00:22:09.85\00:22:12.52 is not only a boon for children 00:22:12.55\00:22:14.38 from tribal communities and villages, 00:22:14.41\00:22:16.91 it is also a huge draw for children 00:22:16.94\00:22:19.28 from neighboring states. 00:22:19.31\00:22:21.04 Wow, look at that, just so many kids 00:22:46.43\00:22:48.87 most of them from poor backgrounds, 00:22:48.90\00:22:51.25 most of them from tribal areas 00:22:51.28\00:22:53.42 and look they are getting an education, they are disciplined, 00:22:53.45\00:22:56.31 they are learning to be organized 00:22:56.34\00:22:58.24 and the education is making a real difference to them. 00:22:58.27\00:23:01.29 I just wish I could bring some more in there is 00:23:01.32\00:23:03.31 so many out there and put them in this environment. 00:23:03.34\00:23:06.44 Look at it, it's just fabulous. 00:23:06.47\00:23:09.44 The growing realization of the need 00:23:09.47\00:23:11.59 to bring in many more children can be discouraging 00:23:11.62\00:23:15.13 but it's reassuring to know that with sponsorship 00:23:15.16\00:23:18.30 we can go about making a difference one day at a time. 00:23:18.33\00:23:22.39 When we are at home, 00:23:22.42\00:23:24.41 sometimes we are not getting three meals to eat. 00:23:24.44\00:23:27.30 No good place to sleep. 00:23:27.33\00:23:29.36 So when schools are there, like this school, 00:23:29.39\00:23:32.44 they are providing meals, education everything sponsors, 00:23:32.47\00:23:35.64 they are struggling hard to educate some other's life. 00:23:35.67\00:23:39.11 That is something very great to understand. 00:23:39.14\00:23:41.98 Since sponsorship was there I studied and I am in this one 00:23:42.01\00:23:46.42 so I am so much grateful to my sponsor. 00:23:46.45\00:23:49.50 And to me it's really wonderful just to see then changes. 00:23:49.53\00:23:52.81 You know, when you see a child come looking dirty 00:23:52.84\00:23:56.67 and unhappy and know that nobody cares about them 00:23:56.70\00:24:00.60 and then after a very short time to see the transformation 00:24:00.63\00:24:04.07 and then after few years to see them really doing well, 00:24:04.10\00:24:07.78 I think that what makes it worthwhile. 00:24:07.81\00:24:11.94 Devoki, although having better offers 00:24:11.97\00:24:14.35 to teach outside in bigger cities, 00:24:14.38\00:24:16.81 has come back to teach in the place 00:24:16.84\00:24:19.26 that gave her a new chance in life. 00:24:19.29\00:24:22.83 Actually, my education, my foundation started from here. 00:24:22.86\00:24:28.55 So I thought first let me server to my place, 00:24:28.58\00:24:32.23 the place where I belong to, where I have got my foundation. 00:24:32.26\00:24:35.23 Whatever talent I have let me show to those people so that 00:24:35.26\00:24:38.43 those students also will learn about that. 00:24:38.46\00:24:41.83 It's so lovely to see some of the young people 00:24:41.86\00:24:44.53 with that kind of commitment and gratitude to Asian Aid 00:24:44.56\00:24:47.64 and for the sponsors that have helped them to 00:24:47.67\00:24:50.76 get an education and to be where they are. 00:24:50.79\00:24:53.58 I feel proud because whatever I did for her, I got the fruit. 00:24:53.61\00:25:00.59 Today, Asian Aid continues to fulfill its commitment 00:25:13.07\00:25:16.30 to the welfare of children who are in need 00:25:16.33\00:25:18.84 and to provide them with an education through sponsorship, 00:25:18.87\00:25:22.35 giving them hope and a chance for a better life. 00:25:22.38\00:25:27.87 They are building lives. 00:25:27.90\00:25:29.35 That people means students and children 00:25:29.38\00:25:32.08 they are in the darkness, 00:25:32.11\00:25:33.40 they are receiving the light in their lives. 00:25:33.43\00:25:36.90 Once if they are at their home 00:25:36.93\00:25:38.51 the lights are being off or gone away, 00:25:38.54\00:25:40.58 but once they are coming here 00:25:40.61\00:25:41.81 the light of their life is being on. 00:25:41.84\00:25:45.17 Because since I think that, 00:25:45.20\00:25:46.94 I feel since I was in this school 00:25:46.97\00:25:49.82 I am blessed to this position today. 00:25:49.85\00:25:52.59 Girls, you ride is here. 00:26:01.08\00:26:02.82 I love you. 00:26:02.85\00:26:03.88 Have a good day in school. 00:26:03.91\00:26:05.24 Bye. 00:26:05.27\00:26:07.76 See you tonight. 00:26:07.79\00:26:08.89 Give my love to meena. 00:26:08.92\00:26:09.95 I will. 00:26:09.98\00:26:11.10 You can make a big difference every morning. 00:26:41.15\00:26:43.88 Sponsor a child with Asian Aid. 00:26:43.91\00:26:46.19
