India is a land full of contrast. 00:00:20.70\00:00:25.53 It's a land of great mystery and beauty. 00:00:25.56\00:00:28.98 It's a land of unspeakable despair. 00:00:29.01\00:00:32.48 But traveling through India one thing is for sure, 00:00:32.51\00:00:35.82 it's a land filled with people 00:00:35.85\00:00:37.38 who should never be underestimated. 00:00:37.41\00:00:40.84 For the last 40 years Asian Aid has invested 00:00:40.87\00:00:43.92 in the futures of people 00:00:43.95\00:00:45.49 who have never been given such a chance 00:00:45.52\00:00:47.75 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:00:47.78\00:00:52.35 Driven by the vision of Helen Eager, 00:00:52.38\00:00:54.38 dedicated to helping those who have the least, 00:00:54.41\00:00:57.21 Asian Aid is an organization 00:00:57.24\00:00:58.92 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:58.95\00:01:01.15 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:01:01.18\00:01:04.57 Their outreach spans from Bangladesh to Nepal, 00:01:04.60\00:01:07.81 Sri Lanka and beyond, from remote villages 00:01:07.84\00:01:11.36 and empty fields to sprawling centers of education, 00:01:11.39\00:01:15.35 from nothing to the unimaginable. 00:01:15.38\00:01:19.19 Now Asian Aid decided to document the work 00:01:19.22\00:01:22.12 it has been doing in all these years 00:01:22.15\00:01:23.76 with the desire to show the world what is possible. 00:01:23.79\00:01:27.11 By digging wells in remote villages 00:01:27.14\00:01:29.10 for clean drinking water 00:01:29.13\00:01:30.89 and bringing much needed healthcare 00:01:30.92\00:01:32.41 to the women of Nepal. 00:01:32.44\00:01:34.90 By providing an education for orphans, 00:01:34.93\00:01:37.00 deaf and blind children, 00:01:37.03\00:01:38.88 giving them a sense of place, a home. 00:01:38.91\00:01:41.61 But what we really discovered was being given was hope, 00:01:41.64\00:01:45.47 giving hope to children, giving hope to women, 00:01:45.50\00:01:49.97 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:50.00\00:01:53.97 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:54.00\00:01:56.59 Here in Nepal under the Himalayan skyline, 00:02:15.37\00:02:18.12 life is quiet. 00:02:18.15\00:02:19.95 It's easy for us to see 00:02:23.34\00:02:24.51 why this place is a top tourist destination. 00:02:24.54\00:02:27.59 Our film team is into its second month now 00:02:33.98\00:02:36.00 traveling with Asian Aid. 00:02:36.03\00:02:38.25 We're just outside the city of Pokhara 00:02:38.28\00:02:40.35 enjoying the serenity of a Nepalese sunrise. 00:02:40.38\00:02:43.84 We're about to head into the city to learn about 00:02:43.87\00:02:45.81 the side of Nepal that isn't so tranquil. 00:02:45.84\00:02:49.39 When night falls, the dark underbelly 00:02:55.71\00:02:57.91 of this otherwise majestic place comes to life. 00:02:57.94\00:03:01.20 This is the main attraction of Pokhara, 00:03:01.23\00:03:03.54 the main commercial sex business place. 00:03:03.57\00:03:07.19 There are some villages in Nepal 00:03:07.22\00:03:08.77 where there's no girls left between the ages of 11 and 20, 00:03:08.80\00:03:12.32 they've all been trafficked. 00:03:12.35\00:03:13.80 Traffickers will have them stay here for one or two days 00:03:13.83\00:03:16.99 and then show them all fancy things and good things. 00:03:17.02\00:03:19.89 And then ask them to wait for two more days 00:03:19.92\00:03:22.11 and then finally they get taken away to India. 00:03:22.14\00:03:26.85 Helen had insisted we come to Nepal and meet Rajendra, 00:03:34.25\00:03:37.88 an Asian Aid grad who is trying to make a difference 00:03:37.91\00:03:40.13 by bringing some hope to Nepal. 00:03:40.16\00:03:42.53 It's just such an encouragement to find these young people 00:03:42.56\00:03:47.74 who are now blessing others because, 00:03:47.77\00:03:51.33 because they have been blessed. 00:03:51.36\00:03:53.35 When I was 4 years old, my father died 00:03:53.38\00:03:55.51 and when I was 8, my mother died. 00:03:55.54\00:03:57.58 I feel fortunate in place that 00:03:57.61\00:04:00.19 I could be of small help to someone, 00:04:00.22\00:04:03.81 when Asian Aid did a great thing to me. 00:04:03.84\00:04:06.73 Rajendra's main mission is to help girls 00:04:06.76\00:04:09.12 who have been tricked into the trafficking business 00:04:09.15\00:04:11.43 to find a way out. 00:04:11.46\00:04:13.27 However, it didn't take long to see that his care giving 00:04:13.30\00:04:15.99 doesn't stop there when a young street boy 00:04:16.02\00:04:18.87 catches Rajendra's attention. 00:04:18.90\00:04:20.75 He is from a low cast family. So it could be a genuine case. 00:04:35.97\00:04:41.25 Could be a what? 00:04:41.28\00:04:42.31 It could be a genuine case that means the street boy-- 00:04:42.34\00:04:45.46 his father and mother died. 00:04:45.49\00:04:47.58 So I'm giving him my phone number, 00:04:47.61\00:04:49.95 if he is interested to study then he should call me. 00:04:49.98\00:04:54.30 If he is not interested then he will not call. 00:04:54.33\00:04:57.78 He said, uncle, please come on Thursday, 00:04:57.81\00:05:01.38 I'll be right there, 00:05:01.41\00:05:02.90 I'll go to school, please come, uncle. 00:05:02.93\00:05:05.96 Before we have time to contemplate 00:05:05.99\00:05:07.78 whether this boy would really take Rajendra 00:05:07.81\00:05:09.89 up on his offer to get off the streets, 00:05:09.92\00:05:11.95 we're off to another part of the city. 00:05:11.98\00:05:13.93 Pokhara is a major crossroads for the international sex trade 00:05:18.50\00:05:22.37 thousands of women are trafficked 00:05:22.40\00:05:24.07 through the city each year. 00:05:24.10\00:05:26.27 This is the main junction place in Pokhara 00:05:30.40\00:05:33.11 for the trafficking of ladies, girls take place. 00:05:33.14\00:05:38.71 The people who do the trafficking are very clever 00:05:38.74\00:05:41.18 because they will go to the families 00:05:41.21\00:05:43.47 at the time when they know that the people are hungry. 00:05:43.50\00:05:46.81 And then they'll say, we would take your daughter 00:05:46.84\00:05:48.97 and we will give her a nice job then she'll be able to help you 00:05:49.00\00:05:52.03 and the families really have no idea where they-- 00:05:52.06\00:05:55.55 where their girls are really going. 00:05:55.58\00:05:58.40 So they're just coming to the bus station. 00:05:58.43\00:06:00.18 Bus station, yes. 00:06:00.21\00:06:02.90 Yeah, come on, 00:06:02.93\00:06:04.43 those-- those sort of girls-- those ones to feed babies. 00:06:04.46\00:06:10.59 Where do they keep these girls when they take them? 00:06:10.62\00:06:13.63 Yeah, are they staying here? 00:06:13.66\00:06:15.90 They stay here. 00:06:15.93\00:06:18.57 The girls are brought here 00:06:18.60\00:06:19.83 and held overnight while the brokers negotiate 00:06:19.86\00:06:22.23 the best price for the human goods. 00:06:22.26\00:06:25.43 This beautiful girl of this age and is physically, 00:06:25.46\00:06:29.33 weight and sexually attractive, 00:06:29.36\00:06:31.32 so they will bargain and negotiate the price 00:06:31.35\00:06:33.71 with the brokers in India 00:06:33.74\00:06:35.73 and that's how they get tricked. 00:06:35.76\00:06:40.27 We ask Rajendra, how this happens on such a large scale? 00:06:40.30\00:06:43.53 Unfortunately, even the police force knows 00:06:43.56\00:06:46.22 and government knows, 00:06:46.25\00:06:47.76 but then very little have been accomplished. 00:06:47.79\00:06:51.36 They basically get bribed by the brokers. 00:06:51.39\00:06:56.70 We meet two sisters caught in this net. 00:06:56.73\00:07:00.33 Srijana has cancer in her leg. 00:07:00.36\00:07:04.91 Her sister Meena brought her to Pokhara 00:07:04.94\00:07:06.69 to get medical care on the promise 00:07:06.72\00:07:08.67 there will be work to pay for. 00:07:08.70\00:07:11.12 Their story is like so many others who get caught 00:07:11.15\00:07:13.82 in the trap with the sex trafficking trade. 00:07:13.85\00:07:16.89 But Rajendra has pulled them out 00:07:16.92\00:07:18.56 and he is trying to find them better options. 00:07:18.59\00:07:21.98 And they came with the big expectation 00:07:22.01\00:07:25.19 as to they will get good job or something better 00:07:25.22\00:07:28.42 they feel very bad and embarrassed 00:07:28.45\00:07:30.15 that they didn't get any. 00:07:30.18\00:07:31.69 So, they've been for some time into the sex slavery work, 00:07:31.72\00:07:37.15 not at all a good thing 00:07:37.18\00:07:38.26 but because she loves her sister she's doing. 00:07:38.29\00:07:42.09 But the sister-- she spent all her money 00:07:42.12\00:07:45.75 and then the doctors that Srijana went to 00:07:45.78\00:07:49.45 misused her also the doctor himself. 00:07:49.48\00:07:52.59 I love my sister so I have to do anything to save her. 00:07:55.60\00:07:59.31 I'm grateful to her sister 00:08:05.35\00:08:07.15 what she is offering or doing for her. 00:08:07.18\00:08:11.47 How they should feel about her leg and her cancer 00:08:16.07\00:08:20.23 and, you know, does she feel hopeful? 00:08:20.26\00:08:22.66 She says, yeah, I'm hopeful 00:08:30.58\00:08:32.55 that my legs will be all right with cancer. 00:08:32.58\00:08:34.79 But how? 00:08:34.82\00:08:39.84 The problem is with money how to get the treatment. 00:08:39.87\00:08:43.49 When they are tricked and put into this sort of work, 00:08:46.92\00:08:51.35 they don't go back, they will remain here and say, 00:08:51.38\00:08:54.58 okay, I'm now lost, I'm now worthless, 00:08:54.61\00:08:58.77 so let me begin continue this and not come out. 00:08:58.80\00:09:03.55 It's hard to imagine that a place 00:09:03.58\00:09:05.24 so peaceful like Nepal could harbor 00:09:05.27\00:09:07.31 the dark underworld of human trafficking. 00:09:07.34\00:09:10.43 Because they are shunned by society, 00:09:10.46\00:09:12.36 for most women there is no escape. 00:09:12.39\00:09:16.27 Some cases I remember that we helped in the past, 00:09:16.30\00:09:19.62 we helped them to get out, but then when they went back 00:09:19.65\00:09:22.74 they were not accepted in their family, 00:09:22.77\00:09:24.59 neither they were accepted in the whole of community. 00:09:24.62\00:09:28.45 So two of the young girls 00:09:28.48\00:09:32.03 poured kerosene oil and burn themselves. 00:09:32.06\00:09:35.53 This is where you're doing your outreach? 00:09:45.35\00:09:47.19 Oh, yes, this is the same place. 00:09:47.22\00:09:49.41 This is the city prison, the district prison 00:09:55.21\00:09:59.25 and also the central prison for the Western Nepal. 00:09:59.28\00:10:02.82 If they don't commit suicide or die from AIDS, 00:10:07.07\00:10:10.03 most of these women end up in prison. 00:10:10.06\00:10:13.89 And as you see that the child she has is seven months old. 00:10:13.92\00:10:19.46 Because most of the women's families disown them 00:10:19.49\00:10:21.96 once they fall into prostitution. 00:10:21.99\00:10:23.83 There is no one to care for their children, 00:10:23.86\00:10:26.13 so they live in prison with their mothers. 00:10:26.16\00:10:28.82 She need sweater, she need pant, she need socks 00:10:28.85\00:10:32.31 since she has grown out of the socks, even this is-- 00:10:32.34\00:10:37.23 The children here need basic supplies 00:10:37.26\00:10:39.56 like clothes and tooth paste, 00:10:39.59\00:10:41.33 things the prison cannot provide. 00:10:41.36\00:10:43.40 I'll raise that money. 00:10:43.43\00:10:46.77 We think that it's more important 00:10:46.80\00:10:49.33 to be help to ladies, women, 00:10:49.36\00:10:51.93 and to children of course they are there-- 00:10:51.96\00:10:55.16 without there doing anything wrong. 00:10:55.19\00:10:59.41 Perhaps, this is the first time in her life, 00:10:59.44\00:11:01.87 you know, somebody being so kind to her 00:11:01.90\00:11:04.00 and she's grateful about that. 00:11:04.03\00:11:07.19 How many-- to how many you want to help? 00:11:42.56\00:11:45.21 There are so many, you may not know-- 00:11:45.24\00:11:49.75 will you help to those who don't know you. 00:11:49.78\00:11:52.75 I said, yes, we will try. 00:11:52.78\00:11:54.62 And then she also asked there are so many in this problem 00:11:54.65\00:11:59.52 and will you help them? 00:11:59.55\00:12:01.82 I said, yeah, we will try. 00:12:01.85\00:12:03.87 And then she said, no, it's not possible 00:12:03.90\00:12:06.67 there are so many that it's not possible. 00:12:06.70\00:12:10.40 We desperately need a really good school here in Nepal. 00:12:15.92\00:12:19.60 And we are hoping and praying that we can get enough land 00:12:19.63\00:12:22.69 where we can also grow some crops 00:12:22.72\00:12:24.40 as well as some the vegetables for the children to eat, 00:12:24.43\00:12:27.19 have a really good boarding school. 00:12:27.22\00:12:30.26 Helen and Rajendra's plan 00:12:30.29\00:12:32.01 is an all inclusive first step to conquering the problem. 00:12:32.04\00:12:36.92 A sustainable campus would give these women 00:12:36.95\00:12:39.41 a chance to learn important vocational skills 00:12:39.44\00:12:43.13 as well as the opportunity to grow and sell their own crops. 00:12:43.16\00:12:46.93 Both of which can help them start providing for themselves. 00:12:46.96\00:12:50.90 Perhaps more important, 00:12:50.93\00:12:52.50 a school would give their children hope 00:12:52.53\00:12:54.90 for a safer and brighter future. 00:12:54.93\00:12:57.61 They want to get out 00:12:57.64\00:12:59.08 and then get married to a proper nice man 00:12:59.11\00:13:01.57 and begin a new life again. 00:13:01.60\00:13:03.83 All she wants is a help 00:13:03.86\00:13:06.01 to have her sister get proper treatment. 00:13:06.04\00:13:09.22 We have so huge that need 00:13:09.25\00:13:12.07 to take care of these women who are desperately in need 00:13:12.10\00:13:17.47 and who are crying with pain and agony. 00:13:17.50\00:13:20.72 And, yes, it is possible to bring one life 00:13:20.75\00:13:24.85 from that slavery situation to a better situation. 00:13:24.88\00:13:29.22 Helen, Rajendra and Asian Aid are working hard 00:13:29.25\00:13:32.62 to make this dream a reality 00:13:32.65\00:13:34.92 and to restore peace to these women's lives 00:13:34.95\00:13:37.81 even if it's one at a time. 00:13:37.84\00:13:41.98 Rajendra continues on his mission, 00:13:42.01\00:13:44.43 even though he knows it's an uphill battle 00:13:44.46\00:13:46.93 because he's giving them what he was given, hope. 00:13:46.96\00:13:51.22 When I first came to India, now around 32 years ago, 00:14:08.38\00:14:12.14 there were two things that really stuck me. 00:14:12.17\00:14:14.58 The first one was the need for food 00:14:14.61\00:14:18.06 and clothing and accommodation 00:14:18.09\00:14:19.83 for children living way below the poverty line. 00:14:19.86\00:14:22.63 The second thing was the amazing potential 00:14:22.66\00:14:25.60 that these boys and girls have 00:14:25.63\00:14:27.33 to make a difference in the world. 00:14:27.36\00:14:29.76 And the only thing missing 00:14:29.79\00:14:31.61 was the need for people like you to help. 00:14:31.64\00:14:34.67 With sponsorship, you can make a difference 00:14:34.70\00:14:37.82 in the life of a child everyday. 00:14:37.85\00:14:40.26 In a small sleepy Nebraska town, 00:14:51.28\00:14:54.03 a long journey is about to begin. 00:14:54.06\00:14:59.52 This is Naomi Davis, she is a school teacher. 00:14:59.55\00:15:04.28 Her kids are grown and living off on their own. 00:15:04.31\00:15:07.45 For the past five years, 00:15:07.48\00:15:09.11 Naomi and her husband have been sponsoring a young girl 00:15:09.14\00:15:12.20 from a small town in India, name Dinah. 00:15:12.23\00:15:15.87 Well, she's got a beautiful smile 00:15:15.90\00:15:18.25 and she's got sparks in her eyes 00:15:18.28\00:15:20.74 and I look back to the first pictures 00:15:20.77\00:15:22.53 I've gotten of her and she is growing. 00:15:22.56\00:15:27.38 She is becoming, I think she is becoming a very fine young lady 00:15:27.41\00:15:32.91 and I see that she is happy, 00:15:32.94\00:15:35.43 in this one her smiles are more and more all the time. 00:15:35.46\00:15:38.62 Dinah is different among all the children. 00:15:54.78\00:15:58.63 She do her own work. 00:15:58.66\00:16:00.72 She will not mingle with others, 00:16:00.75\00:16:02.83 she is a shy girl, she won't talk with anyone. 00:16:02.86\00:16:08.33 Like so many other children in India, 00:16:08.36\00:16:10.76 Dinah's past was difficult to say the least. 00:16:10.79\00:16:13.68 She's come from an impoverish background 00:16:13.71\00:16:15.80 and her father died when she was only five years old. 00:16:15.83\00:16:18.76 Is this one? This is Dinah. 00:16:18.79\00:16:20.50 This is when she came? Yeah. 00:16:20.53\00:16:23.77 Then some people, they will bring their certificates also. 00:16:23.80\00:16:28.75 We talked with Lolitha, the Director of Sunrise, 00:16:28.78\00:16:32.30 a little more about Dinah and about the benefits 00:16:32.33\00:16:34.75 and bonds created through sponsorship. 00:16:34.78\00:16:37.34 She shows us the thorough records that they keep 00:16:37.37\00:16:40.07 and tells us how accountability is one of their primary goals. 00:16:40.10\00:16:44.59 And this is the caste certificate of Dinah. 00:16:44.62\00:16:47.31 He says it helps ensure 00:16:47.34\00:16:48.49 that each child receives the full care 00:16:48.52\00:16:50.85 that the sponsors and Asian Aid both know that these kids need. 00:16:50.88\00:16:56.04 So often in sponsorship programs 00:16:56.07\00:16:58.01 there is no real connection between the child and sponsor, 00:16:58.04\00:17:01.15 but Lolitha and Asian Aid make sure 00:17:01.18\00:17:03.37 it's more than just a donation. 00:17:03.40\00:17:05.38 There is always a direct line of communication, 00:17:05.41\00:17:07.66 so real relationship can grow. 00:17:07.69\00:17:10.41 We traveled with Naomi 00:17:50.53\00:17:52.19 on our way to visit Dinah for the first time. 00:17:52.22\00:17:54.48 What are you looking at? 00:18:00.98\00:18:03.50 I'm looking at her pictures and some of the letters 00:18:03.53\00:18:06.81 I've got from her and I'm really excited to meet her. 00:18:06.84\00:18:11.10 The only thing is probably you won't think 00:18:11.13\00:18:15.15 that I'll be in India, that's the thing. 00:18:15.18\00:18:18.63 You know, now she-- 00:18:18.66\00:18:19.95 I've never mentioned anything to her about coming. 00:18:19.98\00:18:22.89 Miles outside the small town of Ongole in Southern India, 00:18:32.66\00:18:37.09 we meet up with Bruce Farlow. 00:18:37.12\00:18:39.79 He's embarked on a hard but noble mission. 00:18:39.82\00:18:42.83 For the last few years 00:18:42.86\00:18:43.89 he's been building a school for kids in need. 00:18:43.92\00:18:46.42 And we want to know what motivates him 00:18:46.45\00:18:48.00 to come all this way and do something like this. 00:18:48.03\00:18:50.52 There is always challenges 00:18:50.55\00:18:52.02 when you try and build in a foreign country. 00:18:52.05\00:18:55.42 There's always challenges that take place. 00:18:55.45\00:18:57.78 And-- but the ultimate goal, 00:18:57.81\00:19:00.75 the ultimate victory is going on here behind us, 00:19:00.78\00:19:03.84 those kids playing and having fun. 00:19:03.87\00:19:06.84 They've got community, they've got family, 00:19:14.14\00:19:17.61 they've got home, they've got security. 00:19:17.64\00:19:20.16 They've got some place they know 00:19:20.19\00:19:21.53 and that's-- that's worth it. 00:19:21.56\00:19:23.50 I could see in your eyes, you are going nowhere. 00:19:23.53\00:19:26.83 You know, the opportunities are huge, huge, huge, huge. 00:19:30.28\00:19:33.36 People are so willing, once they see the need, 00:19:33.39\00:19:35.94 it's hard to see it when you're at home. 00:19:35.97\00:19:37.85 But when you're here boots on the ground, 00:19:37.88\00:19:40.93 you have a hard time ignoring. 00:19:40.96\00:19:45.83 Bruce leads a volunteer group to check out the new school. 00:19:45.86\00:19:49.67 By the time the group arrives, 00:19:49.70\00:19:51.32 the school was already filled with over 150 orphans 00:19:51.35\00:19:54.44 and kids in need from the surrounding area. 00:19:54.47\00:19:57.04 Each with their own tough story to tell. 00:19:57.07\00:19:59.96 Asian Aid has been connecting children like this 00:19:59.99\00:20:02.49 with sponsors from all over the world 00:20:02.52\00:20:04.40 for the last 30 years. 00:20:04.43\00:20:06.21 Now they have over 7,000 sponsored children across Asia. 00:20:06.24\00:20:10.29 But the need is still as great as ever. 00:20:10.32\00:20:13.08 There are according to government statistics, 00:20:13.11\00:20:16.03 there are 770 million people in India 00:20:16.06\00:20:20.56 who live on less than 50 cents a day. 00:20:20.59\00:20:24.03 Our purpose is to take children, 00:20:24.06\00:20:25.99 poor children from the villages 00:20:26.02\00:20:27.97 whose families never had a chance in life 00:20:28.00\00:20:30.34 and give them a chance. 00:20:30.37\00:20:31.68 And so they can go to college, they can get a profession, 00:20:31.71\00:20:35.07 they can help their families, they can help their village 00:20:35.10\00:20:37.39 and not only that they can go anywhere in the world. 00:20:37.42\00:20:39.93 Just because they are born poor with illiterate parents, 00:20:39.96\00:20:43.66 that has to be their destiny I don't believe that. 00:20:43.69\00:20:47.02 That is not what I understand 00:20:47.05\00:20:48.91 is a Christian philosophy of life. 00:20:48.94\00:20:50.90 We sit down with Dinah and ask her about her sponsor, Naomi. 00:20:56.04\00:21:00.33 She doesn't know that Naomi is coming today, 00:21:00.36\00:21:02.84 but she definitely knows that something is going on. 00:21:02.87\00:21:06.48 Would you like her to come to India? Oh, you're so cute. 00:23:09.85\00:23:13.15 Some see that even sponsoring one child can change the world. 00:23:13.18\00:23:16.80 One of the little girl said, 00:23:16.83\00:23:18.44 the 12 year old that we were wanting to sponsor 00:23:18.47\00:23:21.15 or that we're gonna sponsor she, 00:23:21.18\00:23:23.23 her dream is to become a doctor. 00:23:23.26\00:23:25.34 And just think of the people that she can impact 00:23:25.37\00:23:28.93 where giving her just that little bit of opportunity 00:23:28.96\00:23:31.98 that we'll be able to do 00:23:32.01\00:23:33.11 and she's gonna be able to reach lot more people 00:23:33.14\00:23:36.28 than we are ever gonna be able to reach. 00:23:36.31\00:23:37.86 When we first came to India to film the work of Asian Aid, 00:23:41.93\00:23:45.19 we were struck by the overwhelming transformation 00:23:45.22\00:23:47.85 that they would bring in the people's lives. 00:23:47.88\00:23:49.74 Whether supporting schools 00:23:49.77\00:23:51.55 or installing wells for clean water, 00:23:51.58\00:23:53.73 it was clear that the hard work of the Asian Aid 00:23:53.76\00:23:56.09 was not only bringing 00:23:56.12\00:23:57.17 the higher quality of life to people, 00:23:57.20\00:24:00.00 but they were also providing a powerful sense of hope. 00:24:00.03\00:24:04.08 But hope is a complex word. 00:24:04.11\00:24:06.58 What was Asian Aid truly giving here? 00:24:06.61\00:24:09.59 What drive sponsors who live halfway across the world 00:24:09.62\00:24:12.39 to support these children. 00:24:12.42\00:24:16.17 It wasn't until we saw what was happening 00:24:16.20\00:24:18.13 here in this new school 00:24:18.16\00:24:19.69 where the bond between Dinah and Naomi 00:24:19.72\00:24:21.99 that it became clear, it was family, it was a connection, 00:24:22.02\00:24:26.65 it was a sense of belonging 00:24:26.68\00:24:28.22 that permeates all of this hope. 00:24:28.25\00:24:30.22 It's a sense that you weren't forgotten in this world 00:24:30.25\00:24:33.12 that somewhere, someone either in your own home 00:24:33.15\00:24:35.81 or half way across the world has you in their minds, 00:24:35.84\00:24:38.77 someone out there who cares about you. 00:24:38.80\00:24:42.23 They love their sponsors, 00:24:42.26\00:24:43.63 everyday they pray for their sponsors 00:24:43.66\00:24:46.49 and they know how they are working very hard for them 00:24:46.52\00:24:49.79 and they are caring. 00:24:49.82\00:24:51.48 I think most of your sponsors 00:24:51.51\00:24:55.13 have the sense that they are rewarded 00:24:55.16\00:24:58.95 because the children have developed and done well. 00:24:58.98\00:25:01.16 And those sponsors have told me 00:25:01.19\00:25:03.90 that there is happiness in their hearts 00:25:03.93\00:25:07.51 that money cannot buy. 00:25:07.54\00:25:09.39 I now have a new member of my family 00:25:09.42\00:25:12.07 and she'll-- 00:25:12.10\00:25:15.26 she'll be a very important member of our family. 00:25:15.29\00:25:20.80 I'm sorry it's just-- it's been a very emotional day for me. 00:25:20.83\00:25:26.61 We're half the world away from this little girl who-- 00:25:26.64\00:25:32.18 now I'm going to love very much 00:25:32.21\00:25:34.01 and it's a difficult thing to say good bye. 00:25:34.04\00:25:40.46 Throughout our travels with Asian Aid 00:25:40.49\00:25:42.62 one more thing was as clear as ever. 00:25:42.65\00:25:45.39 Was that all it takes is one person, 00:25:45.42\00:25:48.03 one sponsor to truly change the world. 00:25:48.06\00:25:50.86 Currently at the Vizianagaram school, 00:27:54.08\00:27:55.81 there are 19 Asian Aid sponsored students. 00:27:55.84\00:27:58.65 They sleep on the floor and they share one bathroom 00:27:58.68\00:28:01.06 with all the other students on the campus. 00:28:01.09\00:28:03.12 When my church family heard about this need, 00:28:03.15\00:28:05.18 they've raised funds 00:28:05.21\00:28:06.41 to make this campus a better place for the students. 00:28:06.44\00:28:09.09 There's a constant need for donations by individuals, 00:28:09.12\00:28:12.91 churches, organizations to assist Asian Aid 00:28:12.94\00:28:15.67 with these many special projects. 00:28:15.70\00:28:17.50 Join me would you in making a difference. 00:28:17.53\00:28:20.35
