India is a land full of contrast. 00:00:20.63\00:00:25.46 Is a land of great mystery and beauty, 00:00:25.49\00:00:29.00 it's a land of unspeakable despair. 00:00:29.03\00:00:32.38 But traveling through India one thing is for sure 00:00:32.41\00:00:35.85 it's a land filled with people 00:00:35.88\00:00:37.42 who should never be underestimated. 00:00:37.45\00:00:40.82 For the last 40 years 00:00:40.85\00:00:42.55 Asian Aid has invested in the futures of people, 00:00:42.58\00:00:45.44 who had never been given such a chance 00:00:45.47\00:00:47.74 and their investment has proven infinite returns. 00:00:47.77\00:00:52.22 Driven by the vision of Helen Eager 00:00:52.25\00:00:54.36 dedicated to helping those who have the least 00:00:54.39\00:00:57.12 Asian Aid is an organization 00:00:57.15\00:00:58.87 implementing diverse development projects 00:00:58.90\00:01:01.17 and sponsoring thousands of children. 00:01:01.20\00:01:04.62 Their outreach spans from Bangladesh to Nepal, 00:01:04.65\00:01:07.55 Sri Lanka and beyond, 00:01:07.58\00:01:10.16 from remote villages and empty fields 00:01:10.19\00:01:12.72 to sprawling centers of education, 00:01:12.75\00:01:15.29 from nothing to the unimaginable. 00:01:15.32\00:01:19.12 Now Asian Aid decided to document 00:01:19.15\00:01:21.78 the work it has been doing all these years 00:01:21.81\00:01:23.77 with the desire to show the world 00:01:23.80\00:01:25.69 what is possible. 00:01:25.72\00:01:27.22 By digging wells in remote villages 00:01:27.25\00:01:29.01 for clean drinking water 00:01:29.04\00:01:30.81 and bringing much needed healthcare 00:01:30.84\00:01:32.42 to the women of Nepal. 00:01:32.45\00:01:34.94 By providing an education 00:01:34.97\00:01:36.21 for orphans, deaf and blind children, 00:01:36.24\00:01:38.86 giving them a sense a place a home 00:01:38.89\00:01:41.64 but what we really discovered was being given was hope, 00:01:41.67\00:01:45.39 giving hope to children, giving hope to women, 00:01:45.42\00:01:49.99 giving hope to the ones who needed the most. 00:01:50.02\00:01:53.94 This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:53.97\00:01:56.09 I never heard too much about Asian Aid before. 00:02:06.80\00:02:09.59 On paper it seem like they were doing noble work. 00:02:09.62\00:02:12.32 Development organizations 00:02:12.35\00:02:13.65 sponsoring thousands of kids throughout Asia, 00:02:13.68\00:02:16.22 so when they ask my film team to come 00:02:16.25\00:02:17.89 and document the work they do I said, yes. 00:02:17.92\00:02:21.09 My name is Terry Benedict and I'm a filmmaker 00:02:21.12\00:02:25.02 and this is my film team. 00:02:25.05\00:02:27.81 None of us have any idea what's in store for us. 00:02:27.84\00:02:31.11 I'm Jordan Ehrlich, Terry's producing partner. 00:02:37.97\00:02:40.89 Enduring our travels throughout India and Asia 00:02:40.92\00:02:43.82 you will see us, our cameras and our microphones. 00:02:43.85\00:02:47.25 Most of all you'll see what we see 00:02:47.28\00:02:49.88 as you come with us on our journey. 00:02:49.91\00:02:52.65 Fifteen schools, eight villages, 00:02:52.68\00:02:55.36 five cities and countless dirt roads 00:02:55.39\00:02:58.74 with the inevitable traffic jam here and there 00:02:58.77\00:03:01.69 all in under 60 days. 00:03:01.72\00:03:04.50 Our basic premise 00:03:04.53\00:03:05.95 why getting involved with Asian Aid? 00:03:05.98\00:03:08.45 And with hundreds of organizations out there 00:03:08.48\00:03:10.87 what sets Asian Aid apart from the others? 00:03:10.90\00:03:13.43 These seem like simple enough questions, 00:03:13.46\00:03:15.60 but on our journey to get answers 00:03:15.63\00:03:18.40 we're getting way more than we bargain for. 00:03:18.43\00:03:20.71 From Bangalore, India to Katmandu, Nepal 00:03:29.86\00:03:33.74 we're quickly learning Asian Aid core mission. 00:03:33.77\00:03:36.70 Help those in need 00:03:36.73\00:03:37.76 get the tools necessary to make it on their own. 00:03:37.79\00:03:40.62 And from the first moments of our trip 00:03:40.65\00:03:42.65 we realized that this isn't just talk. 00:03:42.68\00:03:46.16 Our first stop is the Elim Home. 00:03:46.19\00:03:48.96 How are you girls doing? 00:03:48.99\00:03:50.05 And orphanage on the outskirts of Hyderabad 00:03:50.08\00:03:52.45 the capital city of the southeastern state 00:03:52.48\00:03:54.85 Andhra Pradesh. 00:03:54.88\00:03:56.17 Minutes from numerous slums and some harsh realities 00:04:05.19\00:04:08.17 more questions popup. 00:04:08.20\00:04:11.18 Is sponsoring these kids just a short term solution 00:04:11.21\00:04:14.51 or is it more like an investment that will payoff down the road? 00:04:14.54\00:04:19.13 Elim is currently filled with 69 orphans already. 00:04:19.16\00:04:22.92 We happen to be here the day the 70th arrives. 00:04:22.95\00:04:27.84 Good evening, sir. Amen. 00:07:32.40\00:07:34.12 Good evening. Good evening. 00:07:34.15\00:07:35.65 Thank you, teacher. 00:07:35.68\00:07:37.03 Thank you, teacher. 00:07:37.06\00:07:38.27 Asian Aid supports over 100 schools throughout Asia. 00:07:41.27\00:07:44.12 They strive to put kids in the best schools possibly, 00:07:44.15\00:07:47.22 but sometimes the only school in the area like this one. 00:07:47.25\00:07:51.66 But it seems they don't stop there, 00:07:51.69\00:07:53.70 they go to each school 00:07:53.73\00:07:55.00 checking the level of quality being administered. 00:07:55.03\00:07:57.75 If that needs fixing or something is off 00:07:57.78\00:08:00.27 they do whatever it takes to remedy it. 00:08:00.30\00:08:02.89 And I just feel we need a school there, 00:08:02.92\00:08:05.06 but I think that we should have it 00:08:05.09\00:08:06.76 look something really nice 00:08:06.79\00:08:08.72 and so when the children feel that they have school 00:08:08.75\00:08:11.57 this is a special place 00:08:11.60\00:08:13.45 and so it looks nice and clean 00:08:13.48\00:08:15.94 and different from the rest of the slum. 00:08:15.97\00:08:18.09 As we followed Helen in the Asian Aid team around 00:08:21.39\00:08:24.30 its apparent their goals are not swayed by convenience. 00:08:24.33\00:08:27.74 It's not about the appearance of doing the right thing 00:08:27.77\00:08:30.78 and it's not even about the bottom line. 00:08:30.81\00:08:33.48 If a need is getting done they'll find a way do it. 00:08:33.51\00:08:36.79 Helen Eager and Asian Aid have spent the last 40 years 00:08:42.96\00:08:45.82 trying to create the best environment 00:08:45.85\00:08:47.63 for these kids, 00:08:47.66\00:08:48.69 an environment where they can have a safe loving home 00:08:48.72\00:08:51.08 and get a high standard of education. 00:08:51.11\00:08:53.92 They take us to the town of Jeypore 00:08:53.95\00:08:55.81 in the mountain region of Orissa 00:08:55.84\00:08:57.68 to see what's possible. 00:08:57.71\00:09:01.49 Well, in my dream I was just thinking 00:09:01.52\00:09:03.38 in a small boarding school with maybe 50 children 00:09:03.41\00:09:06.57 and that of course did increase to 200 quite fast, 00:09:06.60\00:09:09.38 but now to see these buildings 00:09:09.41\00:09:11.97 and this campus is just so amazing. 00:09:12.00\00:09:15.78 And now there are 750 children 00:09:15.81\00:09:18.61 actually studying and learning so much 00:09:18.64\00:09:21.67 on this school compound. 00:09:21.70\00:09:24.44 The school of Jeypore stands as a beckon 00:09:24.47\00:09:26.83 of what can be done with the powerful vision, 00:09:26.86\00:09:29.26 key partnerships and real determination. 00:09:29.29\00:09:31.92 Over a 100 miles from the mountains of Jeypore 00:09:37.57\00:09:40.89 we traveled down a very long and very bumpy dirt road. 00:09:40.92\00:09:46.06 We head towards a small fishing village by a lake. 00:09:46.09\00:09:48.62 Here there are about 15 families living day to day 00:09:51.98\00:09:55.24 using the fish they catch to eat and sell. 00:09:55.27\00:09:57.91 They live a pretty happy life in their remote village. 00:10:03.48\00:10:08.18 The people here only have one complaint. 00:10:08.21\00:10:11.89 Is it clean water? 00:10:11.92\00:10:13.35 There is a big problem here in this village 00:10:13.38\00:10:15.72 so they just simply that digging 00:10:15.75\00:10:16.99 the two, three feet deep. 00:10:17.02\00:10:19.15 No safe drinking water. 00:10:19.18\00:10:20.21 Most of the children and old people are getting 00:10:20.24\00:10:23.99 diseases like diarrhea and other malaria. 00:10:24.02\00:10:27.25 So the well need some help, new well? 00:10:27.28\00:10:30.41 Yeah, actually not like this well sir, 00:10:30.44\00:10:33.08 hand-pump will be the safe water for them. 00:10:33.11\00:10:34.74 The water will be clean. 00:10:34.77\00:10:37.30 One major aspect of Asian Aids 00:10:37.33\00:10:38.95 different development projects throughout Asia 00:10:38.98\00:10:41.31 is providing clean water. 00:10:41.34\00:10:43.93 During our visit Asian Aid decides 00:10:43.96\00:10:45.95 to install some new wells for these villages. 00:10:45.98\00:10:48.31 As we take off again 00:10:51.53\00:10:52.72 we wonder how much of a difference a few wells 00:10:52.75\00:10:55.13 would actually make. 00:10:55.16\00:10:57.84 This time we're heading to a place 00:10:57.87\00:10:59.80 where not many people are willing to visit. 00:10:59.83\00:11:01.70 Here in the Vizianagaram district 00:11:09.90\00:11:12.20 there is a small colony of leper victims. 00:11:12.23\00:11:14.34 They are discarded, exiled, ostracized 00:11:14.37\00:11:17.82 or any other cliche term you can come up with 00:11:17.85\00:11:20.49 that basically means keep them away from us. 00:11:20.52\00:11:23.39 In this country people don't really like lepers. 00:11:23.42\00:11:26.61 I mean, lepers are looked departed, you know, being, 00:11:26.64\00:11:30.11 you know, not worth anything. 00:11:30.14\00:11:31.53 The stigma that's attached to leprosy 00:11:33.83\00:11:36.77 causes person who is leprosy affected 00:11:36.80\00:11:41.31 to experience rejection by their family and by society. 00:11:41.34\00:11:46.20 They need emotional support as well as physical support. 00:11:46.23\00:11:50.45 We do not have anybody to address a spiritual need 00:11:50.48\00:11:55.08 of the people in this leprosy affected place. 00:11:55.11\00:12:00.06 To fill this void Asian Aid in partnership 00:12:00.09\00:12:02.92 with the Indian government built a community 00:12:02.95\00:12:05.20 for the leper victims in this region. 00:12:05.23\00:12:06.61 Otherwise they are out on the street 00:12:06.64\00:12:08.19 they beg on the street and they stay there. 00:12:08.22\00:12:11.32 Through the work of the Asian Aid 00:12:11.35\00:12:13.30 the housing has been provided 00:12:13.33\00:12:15.91 and that has been a blessing to those people. 00:12:15.94\00:12:17.64 Well, Asian Aid is primarily known 00:12:17.67\00:12:19.34 for their work with children. 00:12:19.37\00:12:21.07 They always stick to their core mission 00:12:21.10\00:12:23.28 helping those who needed the most. 00:12:23.31\00:12:25.49 Near the end of our trip we circle back around 00:12:33.05\00:12:34.99 to see how those wells were doing. 00:12:35.02\00:12:36.95 Much to our surprise only 15 days after we have left 00:12:36.98\00:12:40.62 they were installed. 00:12:40.65\00:12:41.68 Is that one of the bad wells? I think that is a bad well. 00:12:41.71\00:12:43.62 There is the bad well. 00:12:43.65\00:12:46.67 The villagers tell us that over the past two months 00:12:46.70\00:12:49.17 the water borne diseases here already starting to disappear. 00:12:49.20\00:12:52.70 Water very cool and clean water. 00:12:52.73\00:12:55.53 Directly we can drink. 00:12:55.56\00:12:59.28 We need to support the villagers 00:12:59.31\00:13:01.16 who have children in the schools. 00:13:01.19\00:13:02.69 Right. 00:13:02.72\00:13:03.75 Our responsibility isn't just education, 00:13:03.78\00:13:06.05 its education wealthy. 00:13:06.08\00:13:08.03 There is no point in them going to school 00:13:08.06\00:13:09.32 and they are coming out and getting sick. 00:13:09.35\00:13:10.68 We set out to know more about Asian Aid 00:13:17.42\00:13:19.40 and what sets them apart 00:13:19.43\00:13:21.74 and lot of our questions were being answered 00:13:21.77\00:13:24.29 but so many new questions now in. 00:13:24.32\00:13:26.02 What would become of Keerthana, 00:13:31.98\00:13:33.77 the orphan girl who is recently 00:13:33.80\00:13:35.12 dropped off at an Asian Aid home 00:13:35.15\00:13:37.34 and what kind of impact 00:13:37.37\00:13:38.44 were they having in other countries 00:13:38.47\00:13:39.94 like Bangladesh and Nepal. 00:13:39.97\00:13:42.27 We plan to find all this out 00:13:42.30\00:13:44.01 and take you along for the ride. 00:13:44.04\00:13:46.61 This is Hope in Motion. 00:13:46.64\00:13:48.49 I'm here today in Andhra Pradesh, India 00:14:00.46\00:14:02.46 at the Vizianagaram school with my friend Adarsh, 00:14:02.49\00:14:05.18 seven-years-old and my family and myself sponsor him. 00:14:05.21\00:14:09.21 Everyday he is able to have accommodation, 00:14:09.24\00:14:11.34 food, clothes and a good education. 00:14:11.37\00:14:14.89 We want you to know what a blessing this is 00:14:14.92\00:14:16.68 and that you too 00:14:16.71\00:14:18.04 can make the difference in the life of the child 00:14:18.07\00:14:19.86 everyday through sponsorship. 00:14:19.89\00:14:21.72 Mummy? Tulsi's grandson got sick. 00:14:44.04\00:14:45.86 Mummy? Yeah, what? 00:14:45.89\00:14:46.96 Don't go, mummy. 00:14:46.99\00:14:48.36 They made me cry. 00:15:15.72\00:15:16.86 I felt bad 00:15:30.68\00:15:31.75 that I couldn't be there with them. 00:15:31.78\00:15:32.89 Down there they are very good of lodges. 00:15:32.92\00:15:34.31 Need a bit of time for them, 00:15:34.34\00:15:35.39 big kids that probably won't be there next year 00:15:35.42\00:15:37.37 when I come. 00:15:37.40\00:15:40.09 The best way to know Asian Aid cofounder 00:15:40.12\00:15:42.07 Helen Eager is to follow her. 00:15:42.10\00:15:44.42 So from India to Nepal 00:15:44.45\00:15:46.30 we tagged along with this beloved woman 00:15:46.33\00:15:48.55 they call Mummy Eager. 00:15:48.58\00:15:52.27 She is a great lady with a big heart. 00:15:52.30\00:15:55.89 And she lives so simply. 00:15:55.92\00:15:57.57 I have been at her home 00:15:57.60\00:16:00.42 and she know she has nothing the worthily goods, 00:16:00.45\00:16:04.92 but her whole life has been with Asian Aid 00:16:04.95\00:16:08.08 and these children. 00:16:08.11\00:16:10.76 At age 26 Helen volunteered 00:16:10.79\00:16:13.39 to help a little ministry called Asian Aid 00:16:13.42\00:16:15.92 making clothes and packing supplies 00:16:15.95\00:16:18.01 for the needy in Korea, 00:16:18.04\00:16:19.97 soon after Helen was asked to direct the organization 00:16:20.00\00:16:23.78 when the founder retired. 00:16:23.81\00:16:25.59 With Helen's vision Asian Aid grew rapidly 00:16:25.62\00:16:28.61 throughout India, Nepal and Bangladesh. 00:16:28.64\00:16:33.40 Everywhere we went 00:16:33.43\00:16:34.87 we saw the fruits of her love and compassion. 00:16:34.90\00:16:37.78 All inside the city of Samaria. 00:16:37.81\00:16:40.19 God said, okay. 00:16:40.22\00:16:41.80 Please God now open their eyes so that they can see. 00:16:41.83\00:16:45.56 I don't know how she does it, but she travels all over India. 00:16:45.59\00:16:48.93 Those kids from Asian Aid not just the orphanage kids, 00:16:48.96\00:16:52.75 but all of these schools they call her Mummy Eager. 00:16:52.78\00:16:57.76 They are looking for you. 00:16:57.79\00:17:01.08 Mummy, how are you, mummy? 00:17:01.11\00:17:02.90 Hi, Mummy. Hi, how are you? 00:17:02.93\00:17:05.53 Fine, thank you, mummy. 00:17:05.56\00:17:06.80 Mummy? How are, Mummy? 00:17:06.83\00:17:09.03 Yeah, I'm fine. How are you? 00:17:09.06\00:17:10.09 If I see mummy-- 00:17:10.12\00:17:11.36 don't go mummy, stay here mummy. 00:17:11.39\00:17:14.04 I like your help. 00:17:14.07\00:17:18.41 I don't know you just get to love 00:17:18.44\00:17:19.61 so many of the children. 00:17:19.64\00:17:20.75 There are so many of them over there 00:17:20.78\00:17:22.09 they're just like my family. 00:17:22.12\00:17:24.39 And if I just feel that if I don't-- 00:17:24.42\00:17:26.87 no, no they feel that if I don't come and see them 00:17:26.90\00:17:28.96 at least once a year well, then they feel bad. 00:17:28.99\00:17:32.91 She is like a angel who came from heaven 00:17:32.94\00:17:35.27 because she would have not taken me 00:17:35.30\00:17:37.29 I don't know where would I have been. 00:17:37.32\00:17:39.82 She keep on travel and walk 00:17:39.85\00:17:43.13 all day and night she keep in touch. 00:17:43.16\00:17:45.37 Even if I would seen she must be when I calling 00:17:45.40\00:17:47.29 she will be in night 10 o'clock, 12 o'clock 00:17:47.32\00:17:49.13 she is must be sitting and typing 00:17:49.16\00:17:50.85 and do a lot of works to do that she always tell me. 00:17:50.88\00:17:53.60 As our travels with Helen continue 00:17:58.62\00:18:00.95 each stop added to the picture of the simple 00:18:00.98\00:18:03.37 Biblical principle that Helen follows, 00:18:03.40\00:18:08.03 the love and care for the least of these. 00:18:08.06\00:18:10.41 The stories about these children 00:18:30.23\00:18:31.82 that have put into houses to be servants 00:18:31.85\00:18:34.48 when they are very small, 00:18:34.51\00:18:35.54 some as young as about four or five years 00:18:35.57\00:18:37.50 just make me so angry 00:18:37.53\00:18:38.95 because more often they are not saying of abuse 00:18:38.98\00:18:43.12 and then the children are just treated like, like dirt 00:18:43.15\00:18:47.37 and they are often not even fed properly, 00:18:47.40\00:18:50.08 they are just left to sleep in some corner 00:18:50.11\00:18:53.16 of the laundry floor or something like that. 00:18:53.19\00:18:55.43 And the work they have to do is just way beyond 00:18:55.46\00:18:58.95 what a child at that age should be expected to do. 00:18:58.98\00:19:01.83 And I guess for me the fact that the children 00:19:01.86\00:19:04.43 are not usually sent to school that's what maybe 00:19:04.46\00:19:07.86 upsets me almost more than anything. 00:19:07.89\00:19:09.82 I came from very poor village. 00:19:21.58\00:19:24.99 I ask my father and mother when I am small 00:19:25.02\00:19:28.32 my parents had some mistake understanding 00:19:28.35\00:19:33.38 and both are committed to suicide. 00:19:33.41\00:19:37.92 And of course for orphans 00:19:41.02\00:19:42.10 we have to supply everything they need. 00:19:42.13\00:19:46.61 You know, there are some they don't have any homes to go to 00:19:46.64\00:19:49.25 where the parents can contribute something towards their kids, 00:19:49.28\00:19:53.24 so it's costly but it's special. 00:19:53.27\00:19:57.22 Children have grown up 00:20:05.85\00:20:06.95 in their orphanages through the years 00:20:06.98\00:20:08.57 most of them have done really, really well. 00:20:08.60\00:20:11.00 Being brought up in a orphanage 00:20:14.99\00:20:17.28 it wasn't easy but where I was brought up 00:20:17.31\00:20:20.93 I didn't feel that I was been brought up in an orphanage 00:20:20.96\00:20:23.59 rather that I thought I was brought up in a nice home 00:20:23.62\00:20:26.38 with lot of other kids, 00:20:26.41\00:20:27.95 like we call them brothers and sisters. 00:20:27.98\00:20:30.60 And then we help each other, we understand each other, 00:20:30.63\00:20:35.91 and it was fun living with this, 00:20:35.94\00:20:37.92 you know, environment of a big family. 00:20:37.95\00:20:40.23 Originally we thought the focus of our journey 00:20:45.66\00:20:47.84 would be on the needs of children in India, 00:20:47.87\00:20:50.49 but Helen informed us of other pressing issues 00:20:50.52\00:20:52.91 that are close to our heart, 00:20:52.94\00:20:54.59 so close that she insisted we change our plans 00:20:54.62\00:20:58.26 and go with her to Nepal. 00:20:58.29\00:20:59.73 In developing countries 00:21:05.47\00:21:06.99 anyone of these challenges would be a life's work, 00:21:07.02\00:21:10.44 but Helen has found great facilitators 00:21:10.47\00:21:12.86 and partners like Rama 00:21:12.89\00:21:14.61 who is the director of the orphanage in Katmandu 00:21:14.64\00:21:17.71 where many Asian Aid children live and go to school. 00:21:17.74\00:21:21.39 But she also spearheads 00:21:21.42\00:21:22.68 the Asian Aid prolapse team in Nepal. 00:21:22.71\00:21:25.95 The problem primarily occurs when women give birth 00:21:41.24\00:21:44.43 and instead of resting 00:21:44.46\00:21:46.20 they are immediately put back to work 00:21:46.23\00:21:48.18 carrying heavy loads. 00:21:48.21\00:21:50.74 And that lady remember, that young woman 00:21:50.77\00:21:52.97 that she told you 00:21:53.00\00:21:54.03 she delivered the baby alone on the mountain side. 00:21:54.06\00:21:56.61 And just finishes cutting grass 00:21:56.64\00:21:58.42 and picked up the baby with one hand, 00:21:58.45\00:22:00.27 she picked up the grass with the other hand 00:22:00.30\00:22:02.18 and she got the prolapse right there on the spot. 00:22:02.21\00:22:06.37 But Helen promotes a two pronged approach 00:22:06.40\00:22:08.93 through educational clinics and providing medical support 00:22:08.96\00:22:12.09 including surgeries that transform women's lives. 00:22:12.12\00:22:15.95 Over the last 10 years 00:22:15.98\00:22:17.61 Asian Aid has sponsored more than 8,000 surgeries. 00:22:17.64\00:22:22.14 The school here now. Yeah, yeah, the government-- 00:22:22.17\00:22:23.79 After showing us what prolapse was all about 00:22:23.82\00:22:26.49 Helen wanted us to travel on the Pokhara, 00:22:26.52\00:22:29.03 a five to six hour drive on a good day. 00:22:29.06\00:22:31.78 And how good is the road? 00:22:31.81\00:22:33.58 Some of its good 00:22:33.61\00:22:34.83 but then you need knowledge to get there. 00:22:34.86\00:22:36.57 Road is not so bad, but widening I mean to say. 00:22:36.60\00:22:39.72 Helen sponsored Rajendra through the Asian Aid program. 00:22:53.78\00:22:57.47 Now he and Asian Aid are working together 00:22:57.50\00:23:00.07 to make a difference in Pokhara 00:23:00.10\00:23:02.20 a hot spot for human trafficking 00:23:02.23\00:23:05.74 primarily young Nepalese girls. 00:23:05.77\00:23:08.42 Thousands are sent off to India, the Middle-East and Thailand. 00:23:08.45\00:23:13.31 It's driven primarily by poverty, lack of education 00:23:13.34\00:23:16.92 and empty promises of job opportunities. 00:23:16.95\00:23:20.62 Helen has been working with Rajendra 00:23:20.65\00:23:22.18 to provide a safe haven for women 00:23:22.21\00:23:24.09 who have been rescued from the trafficking trade. 00:23:24.12\00:23:27.01 But Helen and Asian Aid see the need for a larger campus 00:23:27.04\00:23:30.39 that will not only rescue these women, 00:23:30.42\00:23:32.51 but also educate and train them. 00:23:32.54\00:23:36.64 We also learn that women who are in prison 00:23:36.67\00:23:39.13 often have their children with them. 00:23:39.16\00:23:41.37 It can be a dead end for both mother and child, 00:23:41.40\00:23:44.37 but Helen and Rajendra have a plan 00:23:44.40\00:23:46.74 that has caught the interest of the prison officials. 00:23:46.77\00:23:50.15 It's a bold plan 00:23:50.18\00:23:51.21 with the winning scenario for everyone. 00:23:51.24\00:23:54.91 It offers hope by caring for the children 00:23:54.94\00:23:57.15 and their mothers many who have HIV. 00:23:57.18\00:24:01.98 There are other places that need to be seen in Nepal, 00:24:02.01\00:24:04.98 but Helen must get back to India 00:24:05.01\00:24:06.72 where a new orphanage is about to become a reality. 00:24:06.75\00:24:10.96 Back in Bobbili, India 00:24:17.20\00:24:19.14 we were here two months ago and this land was empty 00:24:19.17\00:24:21.96 and now it's becoming a sustainable campus. 00:24:21.99\00:24:25.54 With the help of Asian Aid 00:24:25.57\00:24:27.25 field officer Raj Varma is moving the dream forward 00:24:27.28\00:24:30.59 and as support grows 00:24:30.62\00:24:31.90 the groundbreaking is not far off. 00:24:31.93\00:24:35.02 I really like this land, 00:24:35.05\00:24:36.16 because I grew up in the country. 00:24:36.19\00:24:37.61 I think this is ideal. 00:24:37.64\00:24:41.77 I've work with her for over 22 years 00:24:41.80\00:24:44.58 and I can never keep up with her. 00:24:44.61\00:24:46.40 Sometimes I just feel so lazy in my office working flat chair, 00:24:46.43\00:24:50.60 but I just can't keep up with her. 00:24:50.63\00:24:52.00 She is just doing so many things 00:24:52.03\00:24:55.30 and coordinating so many things 00:24:55.33\00:24:57.33 and just has her finger on the pulse of 00:24:57.36\00:25:00.05 all of the different projects and the different schools. 00:25:00.08\00:25:03.80 Mother Eager from 30 years 00:25:03.83\00:25:05.87 she is doing the service for India 00:25:05.90\00:25:08.50 and that she is sponsoring so many children. 00:25:08.53\00:25:12.00 Five to six thousand children were sponsored 00:25:12.03\00:25:14.37 because of her help. 00:25:14.40\00:25:16.28 So you're getting big aren't you? 00:25:16.31\00:25:18.67 So we appreciate her help. 00:25:18.70\00:25:23.84 Helen's passions are diverse 00:25:23.87\00:25:25.44 but focused with measurable results. 00:25:25.47\00:25:28.82 After all these years she still struggles 00:25:28.85\00:25:30.73 to make sure new programs to get started 00:25:30.76\00:25:33.16 so that people are getting the help they need. 00:25:33.19\00:25:36.26 Well, its breakfast time at the Sunrise Home 00:27:43.23\00:27:45.83 and these 75 sponsored Asian Aid children 00:27:45.86\00:27:48.57 will shortly be going to school 00:27:48.60\00:27:50.66 and down the road we're building a new home for them 00:27:50.69\00:27:53.26 and they are very excited. 00:27:53.29\00:27:55.01 There is an overwhelming need with orphans in this country 00:27:55.04\00:27:58.24 and Asian Aid need your support 00:27:58.27\00:28:00.44 with its orphanage home project. 00:28:00.47\00:28:02.49
