India is a land full of contrast, 00:00:20.53\00:00:23.23 is a land of great mystery and beauty. 00:00:25.33\00:00:28.06 It's a land of unspeakable despair, 00:00:28.76\00:00:30.93 but traveling through India one thing 00:00:32.06\00:00:33.93 is for sure, it's a land filled with 00:00:33.93\00:00:36.30 people who should never be underestimated. 00:00:36.30\00:00:39.00 For the last 40 years Asian Aid has invested in 00:00:40.60\00:00:43.66 the futures of people would never been given 00:00:43.66\00:00:45.96 such a chance, and their investment 00:00:45.96\00:00:48.20 has proven infinite returns. 00:00:48.20\00:00:50.80 Driven by the vision of Helen Eager dedicated 00:00:52.06\00:00:54.53 to helping those who have the least. 00:00:54.53\00:00:56.43 Asian Aid is an organization implementing 00:00:56.86\00:00:59.00 diverse development projects and sponsoring 00:00:59.00\00:01:01.56 thousands of children. There are outreach fans 00:01:01.56\00:01:05.36 from Bangladesh, to Nepal, Sri Lanka and beyond, 00:01:05.36\00:01:09.50 from remote villages and empty fields to 00:01:09.90\00:01:12.46 sprawling centers of education from nothing 00:01:12.46\00:01:15.56 to the unimaginable. Now Asian Aid decided 00:01:15.56\00:01:20.83 to document the work it has been doing all 00:01:20.83\00:01:22.66 these years with a desire to show the world 00:01:22.66\00:01:24.90 what is possible. By digging wells in remote 00:01:24.90\00:01:28.13 villages for clean drinking water, 00:01:28.13\00:01:29.90 and bringing much needed healthcare to the 00:01:30.56\00:01:32.36 women of Nepal. By providing an education 00:01:32.36\00:01:35.90 for orphans, deaf and blind children, 00:01:35.90\00:01:38.10 giving them a sense of place, 00:01:38.10\00:01:39.93 a home but what we really discovered was being 00:01:39.93\00:01:42.90 given was hope. Giving hope to children, 00:01:42.90\00:01:46.40 giving hope to women, giving hope to the ones 00:01:47.26\00:01:51.13 who needed the most. This is Hope in Motion. 00:01:51.13\00:01:55.83 Our film team has traveled from India to Nepal 00:02:03.30\00:02:05.90 documenting the work of Asian Aid. 00:02:05.90\00:02:07.63 We've spoken with officials, Asian Aid staff, 00:02:08.33\00:02:10.93 school principals and teachers, 00:02:10.93\00:02:12.63 but we really wanted to hear directly from 00:02:13.46\00:02:15.10 the kids to know their stories from their 00:02:15.10\00:02:17.23 point of view. So we sit down with 00:02:17.23\00:02:19.73 the kids of the Sunrise Orphanage Home. 00:02:19.73\00:02:21.93 One of the first children we're doing an 00:02:21.93\00:02:23.76 extended interview with is named Hannah. 00:02:23.76\00:02:26.20 That before sunrise, they will run away 00:02:26.20\00:02:29.30 before sunrise. Foreign language . 00:02:29.30\00:02:43.50 She says she comes from a very below poverty 00:02:43.93\00:02:46.70 family background, and she says her father 00:02:46.70\00:02:50.50 is a drunkard and he drinks and then comes home 00:02:50.50\00:02:53.30 and beats his mother. And father once he drunk 00:02:53.30\00:02:55.70 and came home, there was some 00:02:55.70\00:02:57.30 argument and his father got angry and he took 00:02:57.30\00:03:00.33 a metal rod and hit her on the head and mother 00:03:00.33\00:03:03.60 died on the spot. And she saw that you know 00:03:03.60\00:03:06.56 father killing her mother, and that man that 00:03:06.56\00:03:09.43 has killed, she has no words and 00:03:09.43\00:03:11.03 she is gonna need to run. And the police came and 00:03:11.03\00:03:13.26 they asked her to be a witness and she said she 00:03:13.26\00:03:16.40 saw her father killing her mother. 00:03:16.40\00:03:18.13 At that time she was helpless, hopeless, 00:03:49.36\00:03:52.86 no one is there to take care of and grandmother 00:03:52.86\00:03:55.90 is there. At that time they 00:03:55.90\00:03:57.70 came to know about this Sunrise Home. 00:03:57.70\00:03:59.53 And she says somehow God grace has brought 00:04:02.60\00:04:05.63 her here to Sunrise Home and she says she 00:04:07.90\00:04:08.86 is happy here, and she says she is 00:04:08.86\00:04:10.16 enjoying her life in Sunrise Home. 00:04:10.16\00:04:11.60 With the inspiration of Mummy Eager and 00:04:27.00\00:04:29.33 inspiration of Asian Aid, USA, 00:04:29.33\00:04:31.60 inspiration of Asian Aid, Australia who started 00:04:31.60\00:04:33.83 the orphanage, a small orphanage 00:04:33.83\00:04:35.56 with three children. That 3 children went 00:04:35.56\00:04:38.10 up to the 7 children, 7 children went to, 00:04:38.10\00:04:40.00 that it slowly it's going big, 00:04:40.00\00:04:42.06 big and big and big. 00:04:42.06\00:04:43.33 We've been to many orphanages for Asian Aid, 00:04:45.30\00:04:47.50 but much of our time is been spent here with 00:04:47.93\00:04:49.76 these kids. We were lucky 00:04:49.76\00:04:51.40 enough to share a lot of nice moments with them, 00:04:51.40\00:04:53.46 but we wanted to know more about their lives 00:04:55.60\00:04:57.43 before Sunrise Home. We wanted to know how 00:04:57.43\00:05:00.63 being sponsored through Asian Aid has since 00:05:00.63\00:05:02.93 changed their lives. 00:05:02.93\00:05:04.06 As we talk with them we were amazed, 00:05:08.56\00:05:10.33 we got an unexpected lesson in humility, 00:05:11.60\00:05:13.76 a lesson in being hopeful for the 00:05:13.76\00:05:15.70 future despite the obstacles. 00:05:15.70\00:05:17.86 This is mainly this area is the most backward 00:05:32.53\00:05:35.80 place in Andhra Pradesh. With this reason most of 00:05:35.80\00:05:40.26 the people are migrating from here to the 00:05:40.26\00:05:41.93 other places, they are leaving the children at 00:05:41.93\00:05:44.13 home and going to the towns, working there for 00:05:44.13\00:05:46.73 few months coming back by this time that some 00:05:46.73\00:05:50.46 children are disappearing from the homes, 00:05:50.46\00:05:52.10 and some children are loosing their parents. 00:05:52.10\00:05:56.16 So all these years we are struggling a lot, 00:06:04.36\00:06:07.83 but the most need in this area is to provide the 00:06:07.83\00:06:11.56 proper education and proper 00:06:11.56\00:06:13.66 facilities for the children. 00:06:13.66\00:06:15.56 Like Hannah each kid has their own difficult 00:06:35.73\00:06:38.00 story to tell about their lives before 00:06:38.00\00:06:40.46 they arrived at Sunrise Home. 00:06:40.46\00:06:41.90 My parents died with HIVAIDS, 00:06:43.06\00:06:45.46 I have one younger brother, 00:06:45.46\00:06:46.86 so she took both of us to the hospital, 00:06:46.86\00:06:51.30 in the hospital they told that 00:06:51.30\00:06:53.36 my brother has AIDS. 00:06:53.36\00:06:55.06 My father was a drunkard, he died first he was 00:06:55.43\00:06:58.93 doctor but he died. My mother poured kerosene, 00:06:58.93\00:07:05.93 burned herself and died. 00:07:05.93\00:07:08.16 Then my father killed my mother, 00:07:08.63\00:07:10.43 then my father sent to jail. 00:07:10.96\00:07:12.93 There is nobody to look after me, 00:07:13.43\00:07:16.23 my mother died without because of lack 00:07:16.23\00:07:20.53 of medicines. My father got heart attack, 00:07:20.53\00:07:24.90 nobody have me, I am alone, nobody can care me. 00:07:25.40\00:07:31.50 I wanted to die, why my life is like this? 00:07:32.23\00:07:40.03 Nobody can care me. 00:07:40.03\00:07:42.66 I also came from very poor family, 00:07:59.53\00:08:01.40 I know all the problems what I faced when 00:08:01.40\00:08:05.16 I was small. So I also know the 00:08:05.16\00:08:07.50 children's problem, I'll be like friend 00:08:07.50\00:08:10.90 with them, I'll be like mother, 00:08:10.90\00:08:12.46 I'll be like dean all the works I'll do 00:08:12.46\00:08:15.33 with them, so they love me, 00:08:15.33\00:08:17.30 and I too love them. 00:08:17.30\00:08:18.60 And she know the people's difficulties and 00:08:19.16\00:08:22.70 children how the children are struggle 00:08:22.70\00:08:24.33 without parents, without proper food, 00:08:24.33\00:08:28.90 and the shelter. So she shows good love 00:08:28.90\00:08:34.36 to the children, and she will try to 00:08:34.36\00:08:36.76 provide all their needs. She may not provide all 00:08:36.76\00:08:39.86 they want or what they want, 00:08:39.86\00:08:42.03 but she try all their needs. 00:08:42.03\00:08:43.76 At Sunrise home Lalitha and Brahma work hard 00:08:49.00\00:08:51.30 to make sure they are eating well, 00:08:51.30\00:08:52.83 staying healthy, and getting good education. 00:08:53.40\00:08:56.20 And she said she is so fortunate to be here, 00:09:01.63\00:09:04.26 she is getting 3 meals per day, 00:09:04.26\00:09:05.93 new clothes and she is going to school. 00:09:06.40\00:09:08.66 And she said she is happy 00:09:09.10\00:09:10.10 staying in Sunrise Home. 00:09:10.10\00:09:11.50 And now here at Sunrise and what is your 00:09:34.13\00:09:37.96 life right now, how has it changed? 00:09:37.96\00:09:39.80 Yeah, now I am feeling so happy because like we 00:09:40.03\00:09:43.43 stay like friends with all of them, 00:09:43.43\00:09:47.26 we are staying nicely only. 00:09:47.26\00:09:49.13 Hannah and the rest of the kids don't take one 00:10:22.56\00:10:24.13 second for granted, they're very aware of 00:10:24.13\00:10:27.00 the fact that they are getting a high standard 00:10:27.00\00:10:28.83 value based education that will 00:10:28.83\00:10:31.30 help them in the future. 00:10:31.30\00:10:32.30 I want to do social work because this mummy and 00:10:45.16\00:10:49.80 daddy are taking care of the children very nice 00:10:49.80\00:10:53.80 that's why I want to be a Social Worker. 00:10:54.73\00:10:58.90 I want to become teacher. 00:10:59.53\00:11:01.03 I want to become doctor because I 00:11:01.50\00:11:04.13 want to help the other people. 00:11:04.13\00:11:07.33 Foreign Language 00:11:10.36\00:11:13.40 And for Prem he has a new dream, 00:11:20.80\00:11:22.63 he wants to be a film maker. 00:11:23.20\00:11:24.43 His dreams are not far off and they are well on 00:11:25.30\00:11:28.26 the road to achieving them, 00:11:28.26\00:11:29.33 and Asian Aid is doing whatever they can to 00:11:29.93\00:11:32.06 ensure that they do. The current home is now 00:11:32.06\00:11:35.30 too small, many of the kids 00:11:35.30\00:11:37.20 sleep on the floor and it's a adjacent to 00:11:37.20\00:11:39.96 excess pores, sewage and trash. 00:11:39.96\00:11:41.96 Asian Aid is already in the process of building 00:11:48.40\00:11:50.33 them a new self sustaining facility 00:11:50.33\00:11:52.50 outside of town. Where they will have 00:11:52.50\00:11:58.23 the room to grow and flourish. 00:11:58.23\00:12:01.60 Sometimes they feel they are hopeless, 00:12:19.36\00:12:21.20 they are helpless, but when they come 00:12:21.20\00:12:23.36 to our place they feel that they are helpful, 00:12:23.36\00:12:27.46 and they are hopeful also. 00:12:27.46\00:12:28.93 It was impossible not to fell in love with 00:12:37.96\00:12:39.66 these kids, whether he is racing 00:12:39.66\00:12:41.73 us to the finish line or wanting to just sit with 00:12:41.73\00:12:44.10 us and ask us what life was like back in 00:12:44.10\00:12:46.20 our world. They left little doubt 00:12:46.20\00:12:48.96 that given the ray of hope from Asian Aid, 00:12:48.96\00:12:51.16 they would definitely succeed in life. 00:12:51.70\00:12:53.40
