S. Lewis did it. 00:10:39.45\00:10:43.80 Who often interwove Christian messages into what were 00:10:43.84\00:10:48.13 ostensibly secular books to try to get the Christian message 00:10:48.16\00:10:51.12 into the wider population. 00:10:51.15\00:10:52.70 There are those that believe Les Miserables is one of those. 00:10:52.74\00:10:57.37 The story begins and deals with a life of a man by the name of 00:10:57.40\00:11:01.99 Jean Valijean. 00:11:02.03\00:11:04.54 At the opening of the book we find him in prison. 00:11:04.57\00:11:07.44 He is in prison for stealing food. 00:11:07.48\00:11:11.41 He was hungry, he was starving and passed by this cart 00:11:11.45\00:11:16.21 of food every day and one day when his stomach was empty, 00:11:16.25\00:11:20.89 and he was faint from hunger, he stole a small amount of food 00:11:20.93\00:11:25.54 and he was put in prison. 00:11:25.58\00:11:27.75 There he spent 19 years at hard labor. 00:11:27.79\00:11:32.08 His prison guard was a man by the name of Javert. 00:11:32.12\00:11:38.63 Later he became inspector Javert. 00:11:38.66\00:11:42.16 Javert is a mean-spirited person who believes in law 00:11:43.47\00:11:51.10 and no grace. 00:11:51.13\00:11:53.35 He is possessed of a belief that people are either basically 00:11:53.38\00:11:59.20 good, or basically bad, and they do not change. 00:11:59.23\00:12:03.45 This is the one thing that drives his life, 00:12:03.49\00:12:07.64 people are good, people are bad, but the bad do not 00:12:07.67\00:12:12.53 become good, and the good do not become bad. 00:12:12.56\00:12:15.37 You are what you are and you do not change. 00:12:15.40\00:12:18.18 He cannot believe that Jean Valijean can change. 00:12:20.04\00:12:27.03 As a boy he is arrested for stealing food, 00:12:27.06\00:12:31.42 he serves 19 years in prison. 00:12:31.45\00:12:33.94 When Valijean comes out of prison he steals one more 00:12:33.97\00:12:38.07 time, he actually steals from a priest. 00:12:38.11\00:12:40.10 But that act and meeting that priest actually changed 00:12:40.14\00:12:44.79 his life, his life changes at that moment. 00:12:44.83\00:12:48.84 He goes to work in a factory, ends up buying that 00:12:48.87\00:12:54.32 factory, changing the work rules in that factory, 00:12:54.36\00:12:59.77 and making it a model place to work. 00:12:59.81\00:13:03.02 He does so well at running this factory that they make 00:13:03.06\00:13:09.77 him the Mayor of this small town. 00:13:09.81\00:13:12.17 So he is a good businessman, he is a good Mayor, 00:13:12.21\00:13:16.66 he is a good neighbor, he is basically showing that 00:13:16.69\00:13:21.11 he is a good person. 00:13:21.14\00:13:22.68 Later on he adopts the child of a dying person who use 00:13:22.72\00:13:27.97 to work in his factory. 00:13:28.01\00:13:30.27 He raises her as his own. 00:13:30.30\00:13:32.50 He begins to show that even if at one time he was a bad person 00:13:32.53\00:13:38.52 that he is now a good person, a converted person, 00:13:38.55\00:13:42.96 a hard-working concerned citizen of high moral character who 00:13:42.99\00:13:49.47 made a mistake as a child. 00:13:49.51\00:13:51.57 But Inspector Javert cannot accept that. 00:13:51.60\00:13:56.59 In his mind once a thief, always a thief, 00:13:56.62\00:14:01.57 born a thief, die a thief. 00:14:01.61\00:14:05.53 One evil act in Javert's mind condemns you for life. 00:14:05.57\00:14:11.85 So Javert spends his entire life tracking down, looking for, 00:14:11.89\00:14:19.69 and hounding the life of Jean Valijean from town 00:14:19.73\00:14:24.30 to town, from city to city. 00:14:24.33\00:14:26.36 He moves to Paris, decade after decade he is possessed 00:14:26.40\00:14:31.89 by this blind intractable determination that regardless 00:14:31.92\00:14:37.34 of how much good Valijean does, he is basically an evil person 00:14:37.38\00:14:43.84 and should be punished. 00:14:43.87\00:14:45.88 It is the center and circumference of his life. 00:14:45.92\00:14:49.28 His whole life is spent tracking down this one man who 00:14:49.31\00:14:54.86 got away and in the end he does indeed catch Valijean. 00:14:54.90\00:15:00.29 Just before he catches Valijean, Valijean actually 00:15:00.32\00:15:05.68 saves Javert's life. 00:15:05.71\00:15:08.06 But even having his life saved by his enemy does not convince 00:15:08.09\00:15:13.17 him, so he catches him. 00:15:13.21\00:15:15.69 There with gun to Valijean's head, at that same instant 00:15:15.72\00:15:22.47 he is forced to the realization the fact that his entire life 00:15:22.50\00:15:29.61 has been wrong. 00:15:29.65\00:15:31.36 That his twisted sense of justice has condemned him 00:15:31.40\00:15:36.74 to a life of unforgiveness. 00:15:36.77\00:15:38.79 I want you to hold on to that point. 00:15:38.82\00:15:40.23 He cannot accept grace, he cannot accept forgiveness, 00:15:40.27\00:15:45.80 all he knows is crime and punishment. 00:15:45.84\00:15:50.76 And he has spent his entire adult life tracking down 00:15:50.79\00:15:57.33 one man and at the point of capture he now realizes 00:15:57.36\00:16:03.66 that his greatest success is also his greatest failure. 00:16:03.69\00:16:10.74 He ends up taking his own life there before Valijean 00:16:10.78\00:16:17.79 and sets Valijean free. 00:16:17.83\00:16:21.26 The side issue that is never stated, but constantly implied 00:16:21.29\00:16:29.82 is that if you cannot forgive, you sentence yourself to prison. 00:16:29.86\00:16:38.35 That the owner of an unforgiving heart is really 00:16:38.39\00:16:44.74 the one imprisoned. 00:16:44.77\00:16:46.54 If you cannot let go of wrongs done you, 00:16:46.57\00:16:51.85 you are the one who will suffer. 00:16:51.89\00:16:55.44 That unforgiveness is its own punishment, 00:16:55.47\00:17:03.24 for the person that has wronged has gone on and lived 00:17:03.27\00:17:07.94 their life and you sit there, in prison, not forgiving. 00:17:07.98\00:17:12.58 Years ago at the motor vehicle department and I was standing 00:17:12.62\00:17:17.76 there, actually was the insurance agency getting ready 00:17:17.80\00:17:21.00 to get some insurance cards for car that I had gotten. 00:17:21.04\00:17:23.89 A fellow came in with a little boy on his shoulder. 00:17:23.93\00:17:26.75 As he walked in he was just upset and 00:17:26.78\00:17:29.38 screaming and hollering. 00:17:29.41\00:17:30.88 He was just upset and he was saying how his wife had 00:17:30.92\00:17:34.06 left him for another man, and how she got the car, 00:17:34.09\00:17:37.16 she got the home, and all I had was this little raggedy car 00:17:37.20\00:17:40.45 that he was now driving and trying to insure. 00:17:40.49\00:17:42.39 How if he ever saw them again he was going to just 00:17:42.43\00:17:44.80 do awful things to her, and awful things to him. 00:17:44.83\00:17:47.13 How he could not forgive her and his face was beat red with 00:17:47.16\00:17:50.60 anger with this little boy sitting his shoulder. 00:17:50.64\00:17:52.95 The Lord said to me you need to say something to this 00:17:52.99\00:17:56.05 guy, and I said to the Lord, no I don't. 00:17:56.08\00:17:57.74 And the Lord said yes you do, you have to say something. 00:17:59.60\00:18:01.75 He was so loud that he was making everybody 00:18:01.78\00:18:04.15 uncomfortable in the place. 00:18:04.18\00:18:06.15 Everybody can hear him how I just hate my wife and I 00:18:06.18\00:18:08.25 have this raggedy awful car and she's got the house, 00:18:08.29\00:18:10.29 she's got this, and a little boy sitting upon his shoulder 00:18:10.33\00:18:12.99 and God said C. A. you need to say something. 00:18:13.02\00:18:15.63 I said, no I don't. 00:18:15.67\00:18:17.49 But after a while I summoned up the courage up and I 00:18:20.70\00:18:23.69 said to him, how long are you going to be imprisoned? 00:18:23.73\00:18:26.68 He said what? 00:18:26.72\00:18:29.64 I said how long are you going to be imprisoned? 00:18:29.68\00:18:32.24 You say your wife has gone with someone else and that 00:18:32.27\00:18:36.08 she has the house, she's got the car, and you will 00:18:36.11\00:18:39.84 never forgive her and you are plotting to do them harm. 00:18:39.88\00:18:42.81 You have a son there on your shoulder, you have to get 00:18:42.84\00:18:45.74 out of prison, you have to free yourself. 00:18:45.78\00:18:49.26 Your wife is gone on and lived her life and your 00:18:49.30\00:18:52.74 response to that is to put yourself in jail. 00:18:52.77\00:18:56.14 You have to get free, you have to forgive her to free 00:18:56.18\00:19:01.09 yourself, and he listened. 00:19:01.12\00:19:03.94 I asked him his name and I said, I will pray for you 00:19:03.98\00:19:07.29 man that God puts the key to your own jail cell into 00:19:07.32\00:19:10.59 your hand and you get yourself free. 00:19:10.63\00:19:13.59 That is the burden of the entire novel, Les Miserables. 00:19:13.62\00:19:19.19 That is the person who fails to forgive, 00:19:19.23\00:19:21.75 puts himself in jail. 00:19:21.79\00:19:24.19 It occurs to me that we are most like God when we do 00:19:24.23\00:19:29.62 the thing, that I suspect God does the most, 00:19:29.66\00:19:31.94 and that's forgive. 00:19:31.97\00:19:34.08 We humans, particularly Christians, being what we are, 00:19:34.11\00:19:38.56 we really have to go to God a lot for forgiveness, 00:19:38.59\00:19:43.00 don't we? 00:19:43.04\00:19:44.14 If there's anything that we really have to go to God 00:19:44.18\00:19:48.09 a lot for, it is forgiveness. 00:19:48.12\00:19:51.70 So let's go now to 1 Corinthians 15:19, 00:19:51.73\00:19:58.05 let's read the word of God. 00:19:58.09\00:19:59.16 Or miserable the word of God says. 00:20:08.88\00:20:11.09 I am so glad that when we come to God, we serve a God 00:20:11.13\00:20:18.92 who is ready, willing, and able to forgive. 00:20:18.96\00:20:23.20 How many here have ever done anything that you've had 00:20:23.24\00:20:30.26 to ask forgiveness for? 00:20:30.30\00:20:31.57 You see if you don't raise your hand, you have to 00:20:34.27\00:20:36.13 ask forgiveness for that because you are not 00:20:36.17\00:20:37.66 telling the truth. 00:20:37.69\00:20:39.35 We have all had to ask God for forgiveness. 00:20:43.21\00:20:45.50 What is that old axiom? 00:20:45.53\00:20:47.34 To error is human, to forgive is divine. 00:20:47.37\00:20:51.17 Forgiveness truly is of divine origin which begs the 00:20:51.20\00:20:56.89 question, is there something that we can do that God 00:20:56.93\00:21:02.58 will not forgive? 00:21:02.62\00:21:04.12 I'm touching on the unpardonable sin. 00:21:07.46\00:21:09.46 Is there an act that you or I could commit that 00:21:09.49\00:21:14.60 God simply cannot forgive? 00:21:14.63\00:21:18.07 In short, what is the unpardonable sin? 00:21:18.11\00:21:23.55 Well, there are a number of texts that touch on this, 00:21:23.59\00:21:27.54 that touch on it for us. 00:21:27.58\00:21:30.22 I have spent a fair amount of time looking at this myself, 00:21:30.26\00:21:34.07 so let's go into the word of God and see what 00:21:34.11\00:21:35.88 God has to say. 00:21:35.91\00:21:36.88 I'm in the book of Matthew, what book did I say? 00:21:36.89\00:21:38.74 Matthew 12:31-32. 00:21:38.78\00:21:43.76 When we try to unravel the mystery of the sin that God will 00:22:11.04\00:22:16.66 not forgive, it begins, ladies and gentlemen, with attitude. 00:22:16.69\00:22:22.27 What did I say? 00:22:22.30\00:22:23.37 It begins with attitude, an attitude of resistance and 00:22:23.40\00:22:29.89 unsubmissive attitude towards the things of God. 00:22:29.92\00:22:34.51 Now we are in Matthew let's go to verse 24 of that 00:22:34.55\00:22:39.11 same chapter 12. 00:22:39.14\00:22:40.92 Let's look at the context, the context is Christ had 00:22:54.23\00:22:57.73 just healed a demon possessed man. 00:22:57.77\00:23:00.44 He was dumb, and to be more politically correct, 00:23:00.48\00:23:05.28 he was blind and mute. 00:23:05.32\00:23:06.90 After Jesus dealt with him he could see, hear, and speak. 00:23:06.93\00:23:12.77 Those Pharisees who saw it, deduced the following, the only 00:23:12.81\00:23:18.61 reason the Devils obey Him, is because he is 00:23:18.64\00:23:23.40 Prince of the Devils, and the Devils are simply 00:23:23.44\00:23:28.16 obeying his leader. 00:23:28.19\00:23:30.08 In response to that assertion Christ gives a long series of 00:23:30.12\00:23:35.12 statements about a house divided against itself, cannot stand. 00:23:35.16\00:23:40.13 So He says basically, if I am the Prince of Devils, and 00:23:40.16\00:23:43.42 casting out devils, the kingdom of the devil will not 00:23:43.45\00:23:46.72 be around very long because I'm working against myself. 00:23:46.75\00:23:49.98 It simply does not make sense. 00:23:50.02\00:23:54.24 That it is a blasphemous statement. 00:23:54.27\00:23:59.31 We get a clue to that and what it means, when we look 00:23:59.35\00:24:05.80 at the unbelief, and the rejection of Jesus Christ. 00:24:05.83\00:24:09.67 The Bible indicates that rejecting truth is a very 00:24:09.70\00:24:15.10 dangerous thing, ladies and gentlemen. 00:24:15.13\00:24:17.88 I want to stress that point, it is a dangerous thing to sit in 00:24:17.91\00:24:24.48 the presence of truth, to be convicted by the Holy Spirit of 00:24:24.51\00:24:31.05 truth, and then in turn your back on truth. 00:24:31.08\00:24:36.01 It is a dangerous thing, because you have to harden your heart 00:24:36.05\00:24:41.55 against the convicting power and Spirit of God. 00:24:41.58\00:24:45.92 So then, you are resisting the very presence of God. 00:24:45.95\00:24:51.23 That miracle was accompanied by a spirit, that touched 00:24:51.26\00:24:56.51 the heart of those who wanted to see. 00:24:56.54\00:24:59.25 You see the thing about truth is if you want to see it, 00:24:59.28\00:25:03.58 it's plain to see. 00:25:03.62\00:25:05.71 If you want to be blind, you can reject truth. 00:25:05.74\00:25:10.20 But you reject truth at the peril of your own soul. 00:25:10.24\00:25:14.55 The Bible says my spirit will not always strive with mankind, 00:25:14.59\00:25:18.20 so we are not talking about a particular act. 00:25:18.23\00:25:22.32 We are talking about a resistance lifestyle. 00:25:22.35\00:25:26.37 You say, no once, it gets a little easier to say, 00:25:26.41\00:25:31.16 no the next time. 00:25:31.20\00:25:32.94 And a little easier to say, no the next time, 00:25:32.97\00:25:36.46 to the point where the spirit is speaking, 00:25:36.49\00:25:39.94 but you are not listening. 00:25:39.98\00:25:42.33 Let's go to the book of Acts, what book did I say? 00:25:42.37\00:25:45.03 Acts 17:30. 00:25:45.07\00:25:49.73 You see it is one thing to not know, it is in other 00:26:04.31\00:26:09.73 to know and not do, can you say Amen? 00:26:09.76\00:26:13.20 When you don't know, you don't know. 00:26:13.23\00:26:17.35 But when you know, God calls you to do. 00:26:17.39\00:26:20.49 Now I want you to think about something, 00:26:20.52\00:26:23.59 Does God know what you do? 00:26:23.63\00:26:28.33 Does God know what you think? 00:26:30.25\00:26:32.86 Does God know what you are about to do? 00:26:32.90\00:26:36.93 Does God know what you could do if you had a chance? 00:26:36.97\00:26:42.23 You see a lot of us don't sin, not because we don't 00:26:49.15\00:26:54.44 want to, we just haven't had the chance. 00:26:54.48\00:27:00.61 Do you think that God knows if you had the chance, 00:27:03.75\00:27:05.98 you would? 00:27:06.01\00:27:07.91 Do you think of the Lord knows if you found a hundred dollars 00:27:12.26\00:27:15.00 you may turn it in? And you may not? 00:27:18.57\00:27:22.41 Do you think the Lord knows that? 00:27:22.44\00:27:26.20 You know why he knows, a number of reasons. 00:27:26.24\00:27:29.32 One He knows because of your lifestyle, because last week you 00:27:29.36\00:27:32.89 may have found a quarter and put it in your pocket. 00:27:32.92\00:27:37.18 Or you may have found 5 dollars. 00:27:37.21\00:27:39.86 You know what I was a child I went in the bathroom at 00:27:39.90\00:27:42.14 the Manna Temple Seventh-day Adventist church in Buffalo, 00:27:42.18\00:27:44.38 New York and found 75 dollars on the grounds. 00:27:44.42\00:27:48.16 As I put it in my pocket I was praising the Lord. 00:27:48.20\00:27:51.91 When I came out of the bathroom it was like my pocket 00:27:57.80\00:28:00.48 was on fire, I just couldn't keep it in there. 00:28:00.52\00:28:04.91 I was about 12 years old and thinking, candy, train set, 00:28:04.94\00:28:13.63 bubblegum, cookies, and then I said, hell fire. 00:28:15.74\00:28:26.28 I took out the 75 dollars and gave it to the Deacon. 00:28:29.90\00:28:34.27 I said, I found this in the bathroom. 00:28:34.31\00:28:35.69 Later on in the service, at the end of the service the Pastor 00:28:35.73\00:28:40.19 announced that this fellow had lost 75 dollars in the bathroom, 00:28:40.22\00:28:44.65 and I knew the fellow. 00:28:44.68\00:28:45.83 I began to think to myself, what if I spent that money 00:28:45.86\00:28:49.09 and I know him. 00:28:49.12\00:28:50.56 But even if I didn't know him, honesty compels us to do 00:28:50.60\00:28:55.01 the right thing, Amen! 00:28:55.05\00:28:56.85 So God knows, you cannot surprise God. 00:28:56.89\00:29:02.01 God knows what we will do and what we would do. 00:29:02.04\00:29:05.48 The fact that you said that, I do not want to know 00:29:05.52\00:29:08.92 about the Sabbath, so I'm going to stay home, 00:29:08.95\00:29:11.43 God knows you should have been there. 00:29:11.46\00:29:13.78 So you're going to be judged, ladies and gentlemen, 00:29:13.81\00:29:18.10 by what you do, what you don't do, what you should have done, 00:29:18.14\00:29:26.91 what you could have done, what you would have done, what you 00:29:26.95\00:29:35.05 think, what you say, what you could have said, what you would 00:29:35.08\00:29:43.15 have said, what you should have said 00:29:43.19\00:29:46.43 and didn't say, Amen. 00:29:46.46\00:29:49.46 It all goes in the mix, do you see why you need Jesus 00:29:49.50\00:29:53.97 if you are going to make in? 00:29:54.00\00:29:55.25 You can't get in on your own and every time you hear 00:29:55.29\00:30:00.17 truth and turn your back on truth, it is a strike against 00:30:00.21\00:30:03.29 you because you are responsible for the truth you know. 00:30:03.33\00:30:06.38 And you were responsible for the truth you 00:30:06.42\00:30:08.01 should have known. 00:30:08.04\00:30:09.04 I bought a Bible 20 years ago and it's collecting 00:30:09.08\00:30:11.16 dust on the shelf, you are responsible for that. 00:30:11.19\00:30:13.24 The Lord says choose ye this day, Amen. 00:30:21.17\00:30:26.47 Why halt between two opinions? We need to serve the Lord. 00:30:26.50\00:30:32.78 When you know and don't do you put yourself 00:30:32.81\00:30:37.81 on dangerous ground. 00:30:37.85\00:30:39.47 The book is Acts, what book did I say? 00:30:39.51\00:30:42.96 Acts 4:20, this is the text we have read before and I want 00:30:42.99\00:30:46.67 to use it for re-emphasis. 00:30:46.70\00:30:48.15 I said, the other night, that is a mutually 00:31:00.59\00:31:03.30 exclusive text. 00:31:03.33\00:31:05.00 It says simply, if you want to go to heaven you have to 00:31:05.04\00:31:11.31 go through Jesus. 00:31:11.34\00:31:13.10 The one name that ushers in salvation is the name of Christ. 00:31:13.13\00:31:18.59 There are other popular names, there are other names 00:31:18.63\00:31:21.78 that people go by, but the name that gets you entrance into 00:31:21.81\00:31:25.73 the kingdom of God, is the name of Jesus, 00:31:25.76\00:31:28.23 and Jesus alone. 00:31:28.27\00:31:30.01 The ramifications of that particular text 00:31:32.68\00:31:35.47 are far reaching. 00:31:35.50\00:31:37.84 Those words eliminate all rivals and pretenders to 00:31:37.88\00:31:43.31 the throne, the name of Jesus is the one and only name that 00:31:43.35\00:31:48.78 guarantees salvation. 00:31:48.81\00:31:50.72 So then, what ever Jesus asks us to do, those of us 00:31:50.75\00:31:55.94 who claim to love Jesus are responsible to do it, 00:31:55.98\00:32:01.14 can you say Amen? 00:32:01.17\00:32:02.34 That is down to the smallest detail, only one way, 00:32:02.37\00:32:08.10 only one man, and that puts Christianity in the drivers 00:32:08.13\00:32:13.41 seat, ladies and gentlemen. 00:32:13.45\00:32:15.08 No competition if you want to make it into the kingdom, 00:32:15.12\00:32:21.09 Jesus is the way. 00:32:21.12\00:32:23.52 If you turn your back on Jesus, you turn your back 00:32:23.56\00:32:27.91 on the only way. 00:32:27.95\00:32:30.27 John 14:6 is a text that we know very well. 00:32:30.30\00:32:33.69 It cannot get any plainer than that. 00:32:49.63\00:32:51.89 If you want to get to God, Jesus is the way, 00:32:51.92\00:32:55.11 no other way. 00:32:55.15\00:32:56.38 No other road, no other avenue, you have to give it all 00:32:56.41\00:33:01.93 to the Lord and what Christ asked us to do, 00:33:01.96\00:33:05.50 God's people have got to do. 00:33:05.54\00:33:08.49 Romans 5:10 talks about Christ being the reconciliation that 00:33:11.36\00:33:15.24 is wrought through Jesus. 00:33:15.27\00:33:17.61 They saw the Lord manifest His divinity in that miracle, 00:33:17.65\00:33:23.34 and yet they attributed it to Satan. 00:33:23.37\00:33:26.96 How does one forgive that? 00:33:26.99\00:33:30.49 There in the presence of a miracle of God, and your 00:33:30.52\00:33:34.90 disbelieving the evidence of your own eyes and saying, 00:33:34.93\00:33:39.28 it's got be by the devil. 00:33:39.31\00:33:41.40 Let me show you something, I'm in the book of John, 00:33:41.44\00:33:44.37 what book did I say? 00:33:44.41\00:33:46.26 John 6:63. 00:33:46.30\00:33:50.03 Christ sent the Holy Spirit, He dispatched to this world, 00:34:13.10\00:34:18.47 the Holy Spirit to convince and convict of sin. 00:34:18.50\00:34:23.89 When you are sitting before a preacher and the words of God 00:34:23.92\00:34:29.81 are digging their way into your soul, and you begin 00:34:29.84\00:34:34.36 to feel a little uncomfortable, that is precisely the job of 00:34:34.39\00:34:39.76 the Holy Spirit. 00:34:39.79\00:34:41.29 It's the job of the Holy Spirit to afflict the comfortable, 00:34:41.32\00:34:45.38 and to comfort the afflicted. 00:34:45.41\00:34:47.91 Can you say Amen? 00:34:47.94\00:34:49.54 If you are a little too comfortable in that chair, 00:34:49.57\00:34:53.01 it's the Spirit's job to give you little pinprick. 00:34:53.04\00:34:56.44 But if your life is in turmoil, and your life is nothing but 00:35:02.22\00:35:06.11 pin pricks, it's the Spirit's job to rub a little 00:35:06.14\00:35:09.95 salve on the wound. Amen? 00:35:09.99\00:35:12.78 That is the Spirit's job, to afflict the comfortable 00:35:12.82\00:35:15.76 and comfort the afflicted. 00:35:15.79\00:35:17.82 It is the Spirit the Bible says, that quickened, 00:35:17.86\00:35:20.23 the flesh profited nothing. 00:35:20.27\00:35:24.14 It's the Holy Spirit's job to take the truth and seal it into 00:35:24.17\00:35:28.68 your heart and soul. 00:35:28.72\00:35:30.25 God's Spirit is the convincer, God's Spirit is the convictor. 00:35:30.29\00:35:38.12 We are just the preacher's. 00:35:38.16\00:35:40.96 The power is in the Spirit, the Spirit is good and to reject 00:35:41.00\00:35:47.57 the Spirit is to reject the voice of God. 00:35:47.61\00:35:51.86 So if God sends you His word, and confirms it by His Spirit, 00:35:51.89\00:35:58.38 to reject it puts you on dangerous ground. 00:35:58.42\00:36:03.21 The unbeliever makes 4 fatal mistakes, 00:36:06.02\00:36:08.45 let's run through them real fast. 00:36:08.48\00:36:10.85 The first is found in Psalms 19:13, what book did I say? 00:36:10.88\00:36:14.25 Now what do we mean by presumptuous sin? 00:36:31.03\00:36:32.91 A presumptuous sin is one where you know it is wrong, where 00:36:32.94\00:36:39.27 you have a clear outline and mandate that it is wrong, 00:36:39.31\00:36:42.54 yet you say not me. 00:36:42.57\00:36:46.15 It's like the law says, 65 miles an hour on I-57. 00:36:46.19\00:36:56.90 Not me, I go 95, that is presumptuous. 00:36:56.93\00:37:05.63 Particularly when you say it's raining and I have got to get 00:37:05.66\00:37:13.58 there, so God will take care of me, I will do a 100. 00:37:13.62\00:37:17.39 That's presumptuous. 00:37:17.43\00:37:20.75 David said, keep me back Lord from presumptuous, when I know 00:37:20.78\00:37:27.22 it is wrong, when I am presuming on the goodness 00:37:27.25\00:37:29.58 of God, don't let me fall into that category. 00:37:29.62\00:37:32.65 Don't let me thumb my nose at the will of God. 00:37:32.68\00:37:35.68 Keep me back from presumptuous sin. 00:37:35.72\00:37:38.48 Number two, we make a fatal mistake when we reject 00:37:38.51\00:37:46.25 the plain thus saith the Lord, wind we thumb our nose, 00:37:46.28\00:37:53.98 as it were, at the truth. 00:37:54.01\00:37:55.52 I'm in John 16:13. 00:37:55.55\00:37:59.28 It is the Holy Spirit's job to lead us into truth. 00:38:21.01\00:38:26.03 That's why I ask you every time you come here to listen and 00:38:26.07\00:38:31.95 pray and when you hear truth follow truth. 00:38:31.98\00:38:36.23 Truth has a certain ring, asked the Lord every time you open 00:38:36.26\00:38:39.45 the Bible, Lord when I run into truth, and I will 00:38:39.48\00:38:43.36 run into truth in this book, convict me of it. 00:38:43.40\00:38:47.24 Convince me of it, give me discernment. 00:38:47.28\00:38:50.48 Particularly if you are one who tends to watch preachers on 00:38:50.51\00:38:55.11 television, you have to be very careful where you get your 00:38:55.15\00:38:59.72 truth from, and make sure your truth is not mingled, 00:38:59.75\00:39:04.31 or mixed with error. 00:39:04.35\00:39:06.07 Check everybody by the word of God, if it is of God it 00:39:06.11\00:39:12.93 can stand investigation. 00:39:12.97\00:39:15.31 If it cannot stand investigation, maybe it is 00:39:15.35\00:39:18.35 not of God and you need to turn your back on it. 00:39:18.39\00:39:21.00 But once you're convicted and convinced that it is 00:39:21.03\00:39:23.61 of God; as a person, a man or woman of God, 00:39:23.64\00:39:27.55 you have got to follow truth. 00:39:27.58\00:39:29.97 I say again, turn your back on truth puts you 00:39:30.00\00:39:35.95 on dangerous ground. 00:39:35.99\00:39:37.75 So 1. Presumptuous sin, 2. Rejection of truth 00:39:37.79\00:39:42.47 3. Refusing to repent, what did I say? 00:39:42.51\00:39:48.47 Refusing to repent, I'm in the book of Proverbs 28:13. 00:39:48.50\00:39:56.44 Let me ask you a question. 00:40:12.47\00:40:14.19 How soon after you sin does God know? 00:40:14.22\00:40:20.04 Yeah, He knows when you are on the way to sin. 00:40:20.07\00:40:29.02 So when it says confess your sins, does it mean 00:40:29.05\00:40:37.96 inform God that you have sinned? 00:40:38.00\00:40:40.36 So who are you confessing to? 00:40:40.39\00:40:42.72 Who are you informing? You are not informing God. 00:40:45.88\00:40:51.93 You are simply admitting to God and yourself that you 00:40:51.97\00:40:57.98 made a mistake. 00:40:58.02\00:40:59.13 You see you never get found unless you admit that 00:40:59.16\00:41:02.94 you are lost. 00:41:02.97\00:41:04.01 You see my wife and I had this argument all the time. 00:41:04.05\00:41:06.72 Pull over and asked somebody. 00:41:06.76\00:41:09.65 I'm not lost, ask who I'm not lost fine, this is just 00:41:09.69\00:41:16.44 an adventure, this is just an adventure. 00:41:16.47\00:41:20.19 She said, will you pull over and ask somebody? 00:41:20.22\00:41:21.56 I'm not going to ask somebody, I'm not lost. 00:41:21.60\00:41:22.87 I bet I'm not the only one that's had this conversation. 00:41:22.90\00:41:29.13 You never get found unless you admit that you are lost. 00:41:29.17\00:41:34.40 So when you confess your sins you are telling God something 00:41:34.43\00:41:39.63 He already knows but needs to hear from your lips. 00:41:39.66\00:41:43.34 God needs to know that you know that you 00:41:43.37\00:41:45.66 are fessed up. 00:41:45.70\00:41:48.99 Confess to your sins. 00:41:49.03\00:41:52.25 So if you try to cover them, the only person that you 00:41:52.29\00:41:56.26 are really playing games with is yourself, 00:41:56.30\00:41:58.75 because God already knows. 00:41:58.78\00:42:01.79 If you cover your sins you cannot prosper. 00:42:01.82\00:42:05.68 God can't bless you lying to yourself. 00:42:05.71\00:42:09.50 He knows you sinned, you ought to know you sinned. 00:42:09.53\00:42:14.71 So go ahead and admit it and let the blood of Christ cleanse 00:42:14.74\00:42:20.30 you from your sin. 00:42:20.33\00:42:21.54 Not my favorite text, if we confess our sins, 00:42:21.58\00:42:27.98 He is faithful and just to forgive and to cleanse. 00:42:28.02\00:42:33.29 So if you don't confess, He is not going to forgive, 00:42:33.33\00:42:38.57 and He is not going to cleanse. 00:42:38.61\00:42:41.31 But the moment you do, He is faithful and just to 00:42:41.35\00:42:47.69 forgive and to cleanse. 00:42:47.72\00:42:50.17 Same book of Proverbs 28:9, this is a strong piece of 00:42:50.21\00:42:53.45 Scripture, powerful text. 00:42:53.49\00:42:55.30 That is a frightening text. 00:43:09.20\00:43:10.75 God says, if you turn your back on Me, if you turn your back 00:43:10.79\00:43:15.83 on My law and My words, what are you praying for? 00:43:15.87\00:43:19.81 Why are you praying? Does it make sense? 00:43:19.85\00:43:25.27 You are not going to hear Me, you are not going to 00:43:25.31\00:43:30.17 obey Me, you are not going to follow Me, why pray? 00:43:30.21\00:43:35.04 You are making a mockery of God. 00:43:35.07\00:43:39.07 One of the first text I committed to memory 00:43:39.11\00:43:42.60 Galatians 6:7, "be not deceived, God is not mocked, 00:43:42.64\00:43:48.62 whatsoever you sow you reap. " 00:43:48.65\00:43:52.35 If you are not going to listen to Him, if you're not 00:43:52.39\00:43:55.08 going to obey Him, if you are not going to follow Him, 00:43:55.12\00:43:58.06 if you are not going to surrender yourself to Him, 00:43:58.09\00:44:01.00 then why are you praying to Him? 00:44:01.03\00:44:02.70 That's a front, it is a mockery of God to ask for power from 00:44:02.73\00:44:07.86 God and then not intend to follow Him. 00:44:07.89\00:44:11.42 "So he who turns his ear away from hearing the law, 00:44:11.45\00:44:14.30 even your prayer is an abomination," it works against 00:44:14.34\00:44:17.15 you, rather than help you. 00:44:17.19\00:44:19.89 God told King Saul, "to obey is better than sacrifice. 00:44:19.92\00:44:29.20 And to hearken, to listen then the fat of rams. " 00:44:29.23\00:44:34.59 Let's go to another text, I'm in the book John 12:48. 00:44:34.63\00:44:42.37 Christ is making a very powerful statement. 00:45:04.28\00:45:09.33 He who rejects me and doesn't receive my word, 00:45:09.37\00:45:14.39 the word is judging. 00:45:14.42\00:45:18.32 If God says, seek truth and pursue it and you passed 00:45:19.58\00:45:24.38 truth by, truth is your judge. 00:45:24.41\00:45:29.14 If God says, be kind, and love, and give, and share, 00:45:29.17\00:45:34.78 and you refuse to do those things, then those things 00:45:34.82\00:45:40.40 are your judge. 00:45:40.43\00:45:41.82 God does not kick people out of the kingdom. 00:45:41.86\00:45:46.92 We say, by our actions, I don't want to be in there. 00:45:46.96\00:45:53.31 I don't want to have God. 00:45:53.34\00:45:55.90 What a mistake it would be for God to take to heaven someone 00:45:55.93\00:46:02.86 who doesn't want to be there. 00:46:02.90\00:46:04.58 You would be miserable in heaven. 00:46:04.61\00:46:09.53 We are singing and praising the Lord and you are out 00:46:09.57\00:46:14.31 back trying to find a cigarette to smoke. 00:46:14.34\00:46:16.04 Everybody has their doors unlocked and the streets are 00:46:16.08\00:46:22.92 paved with gold and you are out back with a hammer and chisel, 00:46:22.96\00:46:26.13 trying to chisel up the golden streets. 00:46:26.17\00:46:27.93 Why would God takes someone to heaven who does not want 00:46:27.96\00:46:34.41 to be there, who would be uncomfortable there? 00:46:34.45\00:46:37.04 Instead of eternal joy, it would be eternal torture. 00:46:37.07\00:46:42.56 Heaven would be hell for a person who does not want 00:46:42.59\00:46:48.05 to be there, does it make sense? 00:46:48.08\00:46:50.07 So our actions each and every day show whether we want 00:46:50.11\00:46:54.79 to be God or not. 00:46:54.82\00:46:57.03 Do you see a pattern? 00:46:59.27\00:47:00.58 What we have described is not one evil act, it is my 00:47:00.62\00:47:09.58 contention that one bad act in a life of good, 00:47:09.62\00:47:14.46 will not keep you out of heaven. 00:47:14.49\00:47:16.63 One good act in a life of evil will not get you in. 00:47:16.67\00:47:21.57 It is a pattern, now let's think of an act that God 00:47:21.60\00:47:26.47 could not forgive. 00:47:26.50\00:47:28.10 Do we have a case in the Bible where God forgave adultery? 00:47:28.14\00:47:36.13 Yes, so adultery is not the unpardonable sin. 00:47:39.01\00:47:42.68 Do we have a case the Bible where God forgave murder? 00:47:45.28\00:47:51.78 Several, in fact there is a fellow in heaven right now 00:47:54.65\00:47:58.18 who is an ex-murderer. 00:47:58.22\00:48:00.90 So murder is not the unpardonable sin. 00:48:02.74\00:48:05.30 Do we have a case in the Bible where God forgave lying? 00:48:05.34\00:48:10.73 Yes, so murder, lying, adultery are not the 00:48:12.88\00:48:17.19 unpardonable sin. 00:48:17.22\00:48:18.20 Do we have a case in the Bible where God forgave covetousness? 00:48:18.24\00:48:22.66 Yes, do we have a case the Bible were God forgave 00:48:24.27\00:48:28.99 someone who did not honor their parents? 00:48:29.03\00:48:31.39 Yes, do we have a case in the Bible where God forgave someone 00:48:33.01\00:48:37.14 who was an Idolater, or had another kind of God? Yes! 00:48:37.18\00:48:41.70 So we can go down the Ten Commandments and find cases 00:48:41.74\00:48:46.24 where God forgave the breaking of all those, because 00:48:46.28\00:48:50.75 they were confessed and forsaken. 00:48:50.79\00:48:53.90 So is there one particular act in the Bible that 00:48:53.93\00:48:58.53 cannot be forgiven? 00:48:58.56\00:49:00.08 Yes and no, there is not one thing you can do that 00:49:05.86\00:49:12.64 would put you beyond the love of God. 00:49:12.67\00:49:14.46 Can you say Amen? 00:49:14.49\00:49:15.59 Because everything you do, someone has already done it, 00:49:15.62\00:49:20.54 Solomon says there is nothing new under the sun. 00:49:22.51\00:49:26.64 In fact, sometimes we do things that surprise us, 00:49:28.51\00:49:32.04 but they do not surprise Jesus. 00:49:32.08\00:49:34.40 They don't surprise Satan, the only person that is surprised 00:49:35.83\00:49:40.40 when you do the things you do, is you. 00:49:40.44\00:49:43.69 And no matter what we do, God can forgive. 00:49:46.32\00:49:50.62 The only sin that cannot be forgiven is the one that 00:49:50.65\00:49:58.58 we do not confess, are you listening to me? 00:49:58.62\00:50:02.06 Every sin you confess and forsake can be forgiven, 00:50:02.10\00:50:07.32 the one that is not, is the one that you do not 00:50:07.36\00:50:12.54 confess and forsake. 00:50:12.58\00:50:14.13 The longer you hang onto a sin, the more it poisoned your 00:50:14.16\00:50:19.82 spiritual barrel, it hardens you against the convicting power 00:50:19.85\00:50:24.89 of the Holy Spirit, till you get to the point you can not 00:50:24.93\00:50:29.60 see, you cannot hear and sometimes even as you pray and 00:50:29.63\00:50:34.27 you do not believe that you can change. 00:50:34.31\00:50:36.91 That is why it is so sad and so dangerous to turn your back on 00:50:36.95\00:50:45.19 truth once you know the truth. 00:50:45.23\00:50:48.58 Because you harden your own heart against the convicting 00:50:48.62\00:50:54.03 power of God and soon you turn off the Holy Spirit which 00:50:54.06\00:50:59.44 convinces and convicts you of sin. 00:50:59.47\00:51:02.53 The very fact that your heart is pricked, your conscience is 00:51:02.56\00:51:08.42 touched means that you are not too far gone. Amen! 00:51:08.46\00:51:12.76 So don't worry about the sin against the Holy Spirit, 00:51:12.79\00:51:17.03 worry about accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior and following 00:51:17.06\00:51:22.47 wherever He leads, because as long as you 00:51:22.50\00:51:26.40 have made that determination you don't have to worry 00:51:26.43\00:51:29.32 about the sin against the Holy Ghost. 00:51:29.35\00:51:32.57 All you have to worry about is putting your hands in 00:51:32.60\00:51:37.12 the hand of Jesus and following wherever Jesus leads, 00:51:37.16\00:51:41.64 and when Christ brings truth to your door step, 00:51:41.67\00:51:46.11 open the door and let Him in. Amen and Amen! 00:51:46.15\00:51:50.55 Matthew 4:4, what book did I say? 00:51:53.19\00:51:55.07 Every word, every word, every word, not just some 00:52:06.84\00:52:10.65 of the words, not just the New Testament, not just 00:52:10.69\00:52:14.13 the Old Testament, but every word is important, 00:52:14.17\00:52:17.57 truth filled and life-giving. 00:52:17.61\00:52:19.28 We have to except every word. 00:52:19.32\00:52:20.95 John 15:5. 00:52:20.99\00:52:22.06 Ladies and gentlemen, sometimes God is going to take 00:52:44.87\00:52:48.22 us through experiences that we do not understand, 00:52:48.26\00:52:51.58 that don't make sense to us. 00:52:51.62\00:52:54.01 We have to except it and follow wherever He leads. 00:52:54.04\00:52:59.26 To do otherwise is to place yourself in danger, 00:52:59.29\00:53:04.44 now I am running out of time so I want to give you 3 00:53:04.47\00:53:06.30 texts to be as a home work assignment. 00:53:06.33\00:53:08.88 1 Timothy 4:2, talking about the conscience seared with 00:53:08.91\00:53:13.01 a hot iron, that is turning off what the will of 00:53:13.05\00:53:15.66 God tells you, you get your conscience seared and 00:53:15.70\00:53:18.28 built-up scar tissue till you can't hear. 00:53:18.31\00:53:20.13 2 Timothy 5:1, the Bible says "he that lives in pleasure 00:53:20.17\00:53:24.53 is dead while he lives. " 00:53:24.56\00:53:26.18 Important text, Ephesians 4:18, 19. 00:53:26.21\00:53:29.80 The Bible talks about "having your conscience darkened 00:53:29.84\00:53:32.81 and being alienated from God because of consistent refusal 00:53:32.85\00:53:35.78 to hear the voice of God. " 00:53:35.82\00:53:37.91 Ephesians 4:30, a powerful text. 00:53:37.94\00:53:42.15 It says, "do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God by whom 00:53:42.18\00:53:46.97 you are sealed for the day redemption. " 00:53:47.01\00:53:50.16 Don't grieve the Spirit, co operate with the Spirit, 00:53:50.19\00:53:53.96 work with the Spirit and when God calls you to truth, 00:53:53.99\00:53:58.18 following in that truth for it is your only safeguard and 00:53:58.21\00:54:02.36 ladies and gentlemen your life depends 00:54:02.40\00:54:05.06 upon it, Amen and Amen. 00:54:05.09\00:54:08.99 Stand with me please as we pray, Holy Father, 00:54:09.02\00:54:15.10 we come to You now in prayer asking You please Lord, 00:54:15.14\00:54:20.60 please Lord, help us to accept and follow in the truth. 00:54:20.64\00:54:26.03 Not to place tradition before truth or our ways before truth, 00:54:26.07\00:54:33.00 or any Pastor or any man before truth but always look to Jesus. 00:54:33.04\00:54:39.94
