that there they are

and that's because
God knows their heart

they were in their situation...

and so He has them in

the most beautiful things

It gives a record of God's
people without their mistakes

that the judgment is also
all about obeying the gospel.

comes to the house of God

So, obedience is

people who call Jesus, "Lord"

to be followers of Christ.

ever met people like that,

to be followers of Christ,

they, even, as preachers
and pastors they ask for...

for money but... but you learn
in time that they're hypocrites.

A lot of times, people like this

are asking you for money

and telling you what to do...

they... they... they are...
keep telling you how to live

but they don't live that way.

They keep telling you to
give but they don't give,

they take and, we
sometimes get frustrated,

remember, we've already learned
that it's not our place to judge

that's God's place

but the reason
why God has a judgment

is because there
are people like this.

There are people
who are stepping in

and doing the very
things that are outlined

in verses 21 to 23
of Matthew chapter 7.

They are fulfilling
the words of Christ,

they do many
wonderful works in His name

and sometimes it's...
it's... it's hard for us,

it's confusing for us
because we think, "Wow,
00:05:35.23\00:05:37.07
these are great
Christians, look at all the...
00:05:37.10\00:05:39.00
the good things they're
doing in Christ's name... "

and yet, Jesus says,
"I don't know you... "
00:05:40.94\00:05:44.11
and then He says, "You
are workers of iniquity,
00:05:44.14\00:05:47.28
depart from me, you
workers of iniquity. "

Now, these are serious verses

and I think it's
important for all of us...

for any professing
Christian to try to understand

if these verses apply to us...

we need to examine ourselves.

and see if we're in the faith

There are some key elements
that we can look at, now,

one of the things we
need to note right away

is that these are
professing Christians

so, if you're a

they do many
wonderful works in Christ's name

so, you're not off the hook yet

if you do many wonderful works

but then it goes on to say that
they are workers of iniquity.

Now, that's the key
for us to understand

going to differentiate

between true followers of Christ

professed followers of Christ

will both be doing
many wonderful works,

they should be doing
many wonderful works,

if you are a follower of Jesus,

you should be doing
many wonderful works.

If you're a follower of Jesus,

doing things for Jesus,

there's no difference

So, true followers of Christ
are not workers of iniquity,

Christ are workers of iniquity,

what does that mean?

Well, the word
"iniquity" in the Greek means,

"Illegality or
violation of law, wickedness. "

Illegality, violation
of the law or wickedness

and that, of course, is how we
can identify a fake Christian.

Fake Christians may be
doing many wonderful works

or they may profess to
follow and believe in Jesus

but they lie... they steal...
they are sexually immoral...

idolaters... murderers...

they're covetous...

all of these are characteristics
of fake Christians

who are workers of
iniquity or violating laws

specifically, God's law.

what's really
interesting about this verse

is not only that
it defines iniquity...

it defines lawlessness

but the same word is used here

Matthew chapter 7 verse 23.

So, we see a
direct connection here,

workers of iniquity"

and that means, you are
transgressors of the law

the law of God is
being transgressed

by professed
Christians, what do you know?

So, there's professed Christians
who do many wonderful works

but they transgress God's law.

Now, why is that?

Why is it that many professed
Christians transgress God's law?

Well, there are
several reasons for that.

I was raised in a
Christian home so to speak,

went to church every Sunday,
00:09:31.07\00:09:32.80
said my prayers every night,

as I got older,
even when I was strong,

I would pray some rote prayers

but I never really knew
Christ as my personal Savior.

I didn't have a
born-again experience with Him
00:09:45.11\00:09:47.48
and I definitely
wasn't keeping His law.

I was a professed Christian that
was violating the law of God

in many different ways
00:09:53.46\00:09:55.12
and so, that was my experience.

I believed in God,

I believed that I
would go to heaven

but I really didn't
have a relationship with God

so, I can really
relate to these verses.

This warning in
Matthew chapter 7

and this is why I was in
that kind of a situation.

Some Christians have
actually tossed the law of God,

my situation was that I
felt that the law of God

wasn't significant... I
would just go to Confession

and give my sins
over to the Priest

and I would just go on
with my life... no big deal.

I was never taught about
keeping the law of God per se,

so, some Christians
have tossed the law of God.

Some Christians
have changed the law...

the law is still there
but it's a law of "Love"

rather than God's
specific Ten Commandments...

you just do what is right

Some Christians believe
that they are saved by the law

and that's why you have these
many wonderful works in there

that they're saved by
their obedience to the law

rather than saved by grace

difficult also because

when you take away the

you find yourself in a situation
where you become legalistic

legalistic situation.

One classic example of this is

a time when I
traveled to Pakistan.

Now, Pakistan is a
Muslim nation... Islam

and they are outwardly
very controlling of morality.

Pakistan, I didn't see any women

because they're
supposed to be covered...

they're supposed to be veiled,

women aren't supposed
to be on the street...

you're not supposed to see them

and so, you know,

you have to do all of
these different things

if you don't have the

and so, you're going to
see that behind the scenes,

when the pastor goes home from

So, you have these
three things... you have...

you have some Christians
who have tossed the law,

"Oh yeah, the law was fulfilled,

Christ fulfilled the law...

the law was
nailed to the Cross... "

talking about God's moral law
now, that's the way they think,

it's not true,
that's the way they think,

yet some Christians are kind
of changed the law... you know,

some Christians who think

they're saved by the law...
all leads to the same thing,

You lose the power of the gospel

undermine the law of God,

so, for those Christians
who do many wonderful works

what the Bible actually teaches,

was blameless and...

and yet he was persecuting
Christians and killing them

and leading them to their death

or leading them

he thought that he was blameless

because his focus
was on law obedience

being saved by the law
rather than being saved by grace

and so, Paul is
dealing with that

in a lot of his
letters to the churches,

the issue of legalism
