Dr. Nedley, we're glad 00:01:04.11\00:01:06.32 you're with us. Thank you. 00:01:06.33\00:01:07.43 I'm glad to be here Don. Now you, you practice 00:01:07.44\00:01:09.67 internal medicines deals with the organs systems 00:01:09.68\00:01:12.23 of the body, but you're also an educator. 00:01:12.24\00:01:14.13 Author of several books and you get out and you 00:01:15.22\00:01:18.93 see a lot of things in there with a lot of people. 00:01:18.94\00:01:21.50 But probably one of the most troubling things 00:01:21.98\00:01:23.97 you have to talk about is cancer. 00:01:23.98\00:01:25.51 Yes, it's diagnosed by us on a weekly basis 00:01:26.30\00:01:30.34 sometimes more than once a week, 00:01:30.35\00:01:31.94 but often I have to bring the patient into the 00:01:32.76\00:01:35.48 office and tell him that the biopsy results are 00:01:35.49\00:01:37.99 back, and its what we feared, it's cancer. 00:01:38.00\00:01:41.62 Now when you, you know give that 00:01:43.15\00:01:44.85 diagnosis I'm sure that they don't listen to you 00:01:44.86\00:01:46.86 much right then because they're so shocked. 00:01:46.87\00:01:48.60 And, often they don't hear a lot else. 00:01:49.25\00:01:51.86 Right, so but when they come back do you have 00:01:51.87\00:01:55.45 any hope for them, is there any hope for 00:01:55.46\00:01:57.64 people that have a diagnosis of cancer. 00:01:57.65\00:01:59.53 Well, there can be actually depends on, 00:02:00.35\00:02:03.22 how confined the cancer is? 00:02:04.55\00:02:06.37 How far it has spread? And it depends upon 00:02:06.38\00:02:10.70 the organic system and type of tissue, 00:02:11.22\00:02:13.58 there is a lot of variables in cancer. 00:02:14.21\00:02:16.63 It's the number one cause of death in people 00:02:17.42\00:02:20.22 under the age of 85 in the United States 00:02:20.23\00:02:22.68 and so and it kills children even. 00:02:23.25\00:02:25.76 People of all ages can get cancer it is not just 00:02:27.04\00:02:29.26 a disease of the elderly. But it really because of 00:02:29.27\00:02:34.72 what we're learning in regards to cancer 00:02:34.73\00:02:36.85 treatment, there the cancer deaths are now 00:02:36.86\00:02:40.96 starting to plateau. And in fact some of 00:02:40.97\00:02:43.54 the studies are actually starting to come down 00:02:43.55\00:02:45.63 a little bit and I think as we learn more about the 00:02:45.83\00:02:49.24 treatment as well as particularly the 00:02:49.39\00:02:50.98 prevention of cancer. We ought to see greater 00:02:50.99\00:02:54.50 strides in that regard. Good, so there's good news. 00:02:54.51\00:02:57.58 Now let's say, you know probably the best 00:02:57.59\00:03:01.19 thing is to avoid cancer altogether through 00:03:01.20\00:03:03.43 prevention and through healthy lifestyle. 00:03:03.44\00:03:05.54 That's right, the Harvard University has 00:03:06.26\00:03:07.90 stated that that eighty percentage of all 00:03:07.91\00:03:10.37 cancers are actually preventable. 00:03:10.38\00:03:11.92 And this is a perfect case where an ounce of 00:03:12.69\00:03:15.01 prevention is worth a pound of cure. 00:03:15.02\00:03:17.15 Because the cures for cancer sometimes 00:03:17.70\00:03:19.88 are damaging, we're trying to fight a war 00:03:20.24\00:03:23.51 and when we're fighting a war in the body 00:03:23.95\00:03:25.80 sometimes good cells die off. 00:03:25.81\00:03:27.67 And the cancer treatments can be 00:03:29.01\00:03:31.11 expensive, they can be, decrease your quality of 00:03:31.12\00:03:34.59 life and even if you do get a cure and so an 00:03:34.60\00:03:38.45 ounce of prevention certainly is worth a 00:03:38.46\00:03:40.32 pound of cure and that prevention has to do 00:03:40.33\00:03:42.40 what we're eating and what we're putting into 00:03:42.41\00:03:44.54 our body, what we're doing with our body, 00:03:44.55\00:03:46.21 whether we're exercising or not, 00:03:46.22\00:03:47.69 even how much sunlight we're getting. 00:03:47.70\00:03:49.11 So eighty percent could be completely avoided, 00:03:49.87\00:03:52.69 I mean the other day we were talking about heart 00:03:52.70\00:03:55.00 disease you and I and you said that ninety 00:03:55.01\00:03:56.83 percent of that could be prevented, 00:03:56.84\00:03:58.31 eighty percent of cancer could be prevented. 00:03:58.73\00:04:00.76 And catch up work is not easy when it comes 00:04:01.64\00:04:04.97 to getting rid of cancer, what kind of thing? 00:04:04.98\00:04:07.48 You've mentioned several things diet, 00:04:07.49\00:04:09.05 exercise, sunlight but let's talk about diet. 00:04:09.49\00:04:12.26 What kind of things should be avoiding if 00:04:12.27\00:04:14.59 we want to prevent cancer? 00:04:14.60\00:04:16.13 We really need to avoid carcinogens; 00:04:17.65\00:04:19.60 carcinogens are substances in the 00:04:19.61\00:04:22.26 environment that can get into our cell, 00:04:22.27\00:04:24.53 change our cells into cancerous cells. 00:04:24.54\00:04:26.76 And some of the foods that are associated with 00:04:27.34\00:04:29.91 cancer are meat or animal products, 00:04:29.92\00:04:32.95 meat has been linked to cancer of the pancreas, 00:04:32.96\00:04:35.02 cancer of the breast, of the prostate, 00:04:35.51\00:04:37.97 of the colon, and even lymphoma which 00:04:37.98\00:04:40.33 continues to rise in our society. 00:04:40.34\00:04:43.02 And so the less meat, the less cancer, 00:04:43.60\00:04:46.24 the less frequently is consumed, 00:04:46.46\00:04:48.11 the less cancer. And of course we want 00:04:48.12\00:04:50.75 to avoid tobacco, smoking, alcohol 00:04:50.76\00:04:52.67 actually is a carcinogen, a lot of people are not 00:04:52.68\00:04:55.12 aware of that, just one drink every fifteen days 00:04:55.13\00:04:57.42 can increase a woman's risk of breast cancer by 00:04:57.43\00:04:59.71 sixty percent. Sixty percent? Wow! 00:04:59.72\00:05:01.95 Alcohol also increases the risk of colon cancer. 00:05:02.12\00:05:04.56 And then there's caffeine, which is a 00:05:05.58\00:05:07.47 co-carcinogen. If that's around and 00:05:07.48\00:05:10.25 other carcinogens around caffeine allows 00:05:10.26\00:05:12.37 it to get it into the cell, 00:05:12.38\00:05:13.49 to change that cell more readily. 00:05:13.50\00:05:15.26 And then there are things that we want to 00:05:16.39\00:05:17.95 not avoid but get more of and 00:05:17.96\00:05:20.38 that's fruits and vegetables. 00:05:20.39\00:05:21.72 Fruits and vegetables, antioxidant, have 00:05:22.21\00:05:23.44 antioxidants in our very potent in helping to 00:05:23.45\00:05:26.53 protect us from cancer. Legumes, soy also 00:05:26.54\00:05:30.69 protective, garlic protective. 00:05:30.70\00:05:32.63 Okay, so basically the very, the very simply, 00:05:33.04\00:05:36.30 things that were created be eating, eaten rather 00:05:37.16\00:05:39.91 fruits, nuts, grains and then later vegetables. 00:05:39.92\00:05:43.09 That's right, also very protective and 00:05:43.39\00:05:44.62 everything else watch out. 00:05:44.63\00:05:46.59 Well, pretty much, that's right. 00:05:47.44\00:05:49.55 Pretty simple, okay well, what about cholesterol? 00:05:50.45\00:05:52.76 Well, interestingly cholesterol has been 00:05:54.05\00:05:56.55 linked to certain cancers and the question is, 00:05:56.56\00:06:00.87 is it the cholesterol causing the cancer or 00:06:00.88\00:06:03.37 the foods that increase your cholesterol levels 00:06:03.38\00:06:06.53 also increases the risk of cancer. 00:06:06.54\00:06:08.51 For instance ovarian cancer has been linked 00:06:09.49\00:06:11.63 to high cholesterol levels. Okay, and in cancer 00:06:11.64\00:06:14.83 treatment cholesterol also can be important 00:06:14.84\00:06:17.14 when we get to the treatment section. 00:06:17.15\00:06:18.69 Okay, wonderful, now go back to some of the 00:06:19.18\00:06:22.08 plants, what are some of the plants 00:06:22.09\00:06:23.56 that can be protective? 00:06:23.57\00:06:25.39 Well in regards to cancer treatment and 00:06:26.30\00:06:29.63 now this is not just protecting against cancer. 00:06:29.64\00:06:32.14 Okay, but if we actually have cancer. 00:06:32.15\00:06:34.97 Okay, there are some of the plant foods that 00:06:35.33\00:06:37.84 have come out as potentially helping 00:06:37.85\00:06:41.53 to treat cancer and this is a 00:06:41.80\00:06:43.52 kind of new information. You know for years 00:06:43.53\00:06:46.79 we have known that food can 00:06:47.34\00:06:49.14 help prevent cancer. But we have pretty 00:06:49.15\00:06:51.87 much taught people that once they get cancer the 00:06:51.88\00:06:55.27 foods aren't important anymore. 00:06:55.28\00:06:57.02 The horse is out of the barn so to speak, 00:06:57.91\00:07:00.10 and so we need to go after that horse. 00:07:00.38\00:07:03.05 With all sorts of things and lifestyle isn't as 00:07:04.46\00:07:07.73 important, we're now learning 00:07:07.74\00:07:09.24 well that's not true. The lifestyle that you 00:07:09.25\00:07:12.41 change to after you get cancer is critically 00:07:12.64\00:07:15.85 important as to how long you 00:07:15.86\00:07:17.61 might survive that cancer. 00:07:17.62\00:07:19.04 So you've got your arsenal of foods that, 00:07:19.36\00:07:21.82 that can actually treat cancer, what, 00:07:23.22\00:07:25.12 what would you say is, is one of those foods? 00:07:25.13\00:07:27.28 Well, one of those for prostate cancer for 00:07:27.29\00:07:29.85 instance is pomegranate juice, I think we have a 00:07:29.86\00:07:31.97 graphic in regards to pomegranate juice, 00:07:31.98\00:07:35.01 this study was done at UCLA, and you can see 00:07:35.02\00:07:38.65 it was published in May of 2005, it actually 00:07:38.66\00:07:43.00 announced at that time at the American 00:07:43.01\00:07:44.95 Urological Association meeting. 00:07:44.96\00:07:46.84 And now you can see a picture on the screen of 00:07:47.28\00:07:49.67 the actual Pomegranates. This study was done on 00:07:50.76\00:07:55.20 48 men and these 48 men had surgery 00:07:55.68\00:08:01.84 or radiation for prostate cancer. 00:08:01.85\00:08:03.82 So they had, had some advance prostate cancer 00:08:03.83\00:08:06.08 and just 8 ounces of pomegranate juice a day 00:08:06.09\00:08:09.03 slowed the doubling time in their prostate 00:08:09.22\00:08:12.27 cancer by almost 2 years. It also significantly 00:08:12.28\00:08:16.41 decrease the rise in the PSA or the Prostate 00:08:16.42\00:08:20.44 specific antigen and this is the way if you've had 00:08:20.45\00:08:22.74 prostate cancer or you have a relative that has 00:08:22.75\00:08:24.68 prostate cancer, they're getting followed. 00:08:24.69\00:08:26.54 Those are watching this, that's right, 00:08:27.10\00:08:28.56 that's a blood test that they can do. 00:08:28.83\00:08:30.98 Pomegranate juice contains a number of 00:08:32.02\00:08:33.75 antioxidants thought to have anti-cancer effects. 00:08:33.76\00:08:36.40 It contains estrogen like plant substances called 00:08:37.28\00:08:39.77 phytoestrogens that could be useful in 00:08:39.78\00:08:42.06 combating prostate cancer as well. 00:08:42.07\00:08:43.81 And so, it's kind of amazing that's 00:08:44.70\00:08:47.29 something as simple as pomegranate juice can 00:08:47.30\00:08:50.41 actually be a form of treatment for prostate 00:08:50.42\00:08:54.21 cancer and this is something that's not 00:08:54.22\00:08:56.21 going to harm you at all there's no side effects in 00:08:56.22\00:08:58.94 using pomegranate juice, it's not gonna 00:08:58.95\00:09:01.52 make you hair fall out or anything like that 00:09:01.53\00:09:03.69 in fact it might even preserve hair. 00:09:03.86\00:09:05.71 Because of its estrogen like molecules in it so, 00:09:06.66\00:09:09.89 I would recommend any man who has a history 00:09:09.90\00:09:12.08 of prostate cancer to take advantage of this 00:09:12.09\00:09:14.21 and drink a cup of pomegranate juice a day. 00:09:14.22\00:09:16.48 And you can get that I have seen in the store, 00:09:16.83\00:09:18.73 it's right there in these little bottles and it's 00:09:18.74\00:09:21.00 quite expensive, it looks like to me, when I was 00:09:21.16\00:09:23.34 in the store the last time, but it's a lot less 00:09:23.35\00:09:25.54 costly then the other cancer treatments I'm sure. 00:09:25.88\00:09:28.42 Yeah and it's starting to come down 00:09:28.73\00:09:30.32 in price because it's becoming 00:09:30.78\00:09:32.54 more widely available. So pomegranate juice, 00:09:32.55\00:09:36.69 pomegranate juice, yes. Interesting yeah, 00:09:36.70\00:09:39.19 now there's also something in regards to 00:09:39.62\00:09:42.80 bladder cancer that can be helpful. 00:09:42.81\00:09:44.98 Now when people have bladder cancer, 00:09:45.48\00:09:48.47 often one of the treatments that's used is BCG, 00:09:49.86\00:09:53.78 it's actually put into the bladder or injected into 00:09:54.67\00:09:57.62 the system, BCG is one those things that we 00:09:57.63\00:10:00.92 used to use as a vaccine for tuberculosis. Okay. 00:10:00.93\00:10:04.27 But it can be deadly, there are side effects of 00:10:04.80\00:10:08.17 it and into the bladder itself there have been 00:10:08.18\00:10:12.01 deaths reported and so we would really like a 00:10:12.02\00:10:14.53 better treatment for a bladder cancer, 00:10:14.54\00:10:18.41 and one of the treatments that emerged 00:10:18.88\00:10:21.80 in a study recently, was actually Mistletoe. 00:10:22.19\00:10:26.19 Mistletoe, Mistletoe is of course you know, 00:10:26.75\00:10:29.87 it has its, where you kiss your girlfriend 00:10:29.88\00:10:33.97 under the tree or something right. 00:10:33.98\00:10:35.39 Well, if you wanna get kissed, you go under the 00:10:35.86\00:10:37.65 Mistletoe. Oh! I see, that's the idea, okay. 00:10:37.66\00:10:39.40 But after surgery for superficial bladder 00:10:39.91\00:10:42.59 cancer, what they did was actually inject 00:10:42.60\00:10:45.73 Mistletoe into the Bladder, there are some 00:10:45.74\00:10:48.46 substances in Mistletoe that we were thought to 00:10:48.47\00:10:50.72 potentially be a treatment for bladder cancer. 00:10:50.73\00:10:54.59 And in these thirty patients, there were 00:10:55.26\00:10:58.26 actually done in Germany. This was a study in Europe. 00:10:58.27\00:11:01.86 Their recurrence rate was actually the same 00:11:02.82\00:11:05.54 or little bit better than using BCG, 00:11:05.55\00:11:07.72 and there were no side effects of the 00:11:07.90\00:11:09.31 Mistletoe injection. Mistletoe injection, 00:11:09.32\00:11:12.39 I mean, I never would have thought. 00:11:12.58\00:11:13.87 Yes, now who came up with that, 00:11:14.20\00:11:16.04 where they sitting around one day and say 00:11:16.05\00:11:17.38 I wonder if Mistletoe works and may be 00:11:17.71\00:11:19.48 there's an analysis of the chemicals. 00:11:19.49\00:11:21.07 Well, yeah that's right, there's an analysis that 00:11:21.08\00:11:23.17 takes place of the chemicals first in the 00:11:23.18\00:11:25.28 foods and then we look in the laboratory dish to 00:11:25.29\00:11:28.46 see if it can actually destroy, actually we're 00:11:28.47\00:11:32.81 looking for destructive properties in cancer cells. 00:11:32.82\00:11:36.35 And so, then after that you do the clinical 00:11:36.73\00:11:39.07 study to actually find out, if that will work. 00:11:39.08\00:11:41.78 Interesting, so Mistletoe, Mistletoe, what else 00:11:42.43\00:11:44.47 do you have up your sleeve here, 00:11:44.48\00:11:45.70 we're talking about Mistletoes and 00:11:45.71\00:11:47.06 pomegranate juice what, what else could 00:11:47.91\00:11:49.53 be a treatment. Well another treatment is 00:11:49.54\00:11:52.20 know what your cholesterol level is, 00:11:52.21\00:11:53.92 okay, a lot of people when they get cancer 00:11:54.14\00:11:55.47 they say who cares about my cholesterol, 00:11:55.48\00:11:57.61 I need to get cancer cured, I don't really care 00:11:57.62\00:12:00.13 about heart disease. But studies show that 00:12:00.14\00:12:02.82 if you have a high cholesterol level, 00:12:02.83\00:12:04.46 particularly if you have prostate cancer. 00:12:04.47\00:12:06.41 Getting that cholesterol level down can actually 00:12:07.07\00:12:10.68 reduce your risk of recurrence of the 00:12:10.69\00:12:13.78 prostate cancer. Okay, so high blood 00:12:13.79\00:12:16.23 cholesterol can make the prostate tumors. 00:12:16.24\00:12:19.08 Yeah, I think we have a graphic, graphic, 00:12:19.80\00:12:21.55 on that, and this graphic is, is quite interesting 00:12:21.77\00:12:25.85 this was a study done by Dr. Michael 00:12:26.75\00:12:29.92 Freeman, the Journal of Clinical Investigation in 00:12:29.93\00:12:32.88 March, 2005, showing that high blood 00:12:32.89\00:12:35.89 cholesterol can make prostate 00:12:35.90\00:12:38.02 tumors actually grow faster. 00:12:38.03\00:12:40.82 And the test did not suggest that high 00:12:42.18\00:12:44.91 cholesterol actually caused cancer, but did 00:12:44.92\00:12:46.96 show that higher levels of the blood fats fuel 00:12:46.97\00:12:50.13 the prostate cancer growth. 00:12:50.14\00:12:51.74 So when cholesterol is lowered, prostate cancer 00:12:52.91\00:12:55.51 growth actually stopped significantly. 00:12:55.52\00:12:58.81 And so I, again a recent study showing that the 00:12:59.38\00:13:02.92 same foods that will help bring the 00:13:02.93\00:13:05.35 cholesterol down might actually stop the 00:13:05.36\00:13:08.95 progression of prostate cancer. 00:13:08.96\00:13:10.47 So cholesterol, you need to watch it, 00:13:10.88\00:13:12.55 regardless of, if it's before or after you get 00:13:12.83\00:13:15.97 the diagnosis. You know, when we come 00:13:15.98\00:13:18.70 back we're gonna take a break here in a minute, 00:13:18.71\00:13:20.19 but Dr. Nedley, what I wanna be talking with 00:13:20.20\00:13:21.88 you about is some of the typical treatments, 00:13:21.89\00:13:24.41 I wanna see what you say about those as well. 00:13:24.75\00:13:27.04 What about surgery? What about radiation? 00:13:27.52\00:13:29.72 What about the things we normally hear about? 00:13:30.19\00:13:32.71 We're talking with Dr. Neil Nedley, 00:13:33.13\00:13:34.44 we're talking about cancer. 00:13:34.45\00:13:35.68 We're talking about its treatment, 00:13:36.21\00:13:37.64 join us when we come back. 00:13:38.25\00:13:40.02 Are you confused about the endless 00:13:42.85\00:13:44.93 stream of new and often contradictory 00:13:44.94\00:13:47.12 health information with companies 00:13:47.13\00:13:49.38 trying to sell new drugs and special 00:13:49.39\00:13:51.40 interest groups paying for studies 00:13:51.41\00:13:53.00 that spin the fact, where can you find a 00:13:53.01\00:13:55.49 common sense approach to health. 00:13:55.50\00:13:57.17 One way is to ask for your free copy of 00:13:57.77\00:13:59.70 Dr. Arnott's 24 realistic ways to 00:13:59.71\00:14:02.39 improve your health. Dr. Timothy Arnott 00:14:02.40\00:14:04.68 in the Lifestyle Center of America 00:14:04.81\00:14:06.45 produced this helpful booklet of 24 short 00:14:06.46\00:14:08.83 practical health tips based on scientific 00:14:09.25\00:14:11.34 research and the Bible that will help 00:14:11.35\00:14:13.41 you live longer, happier and healthier. 00:14:13.42\00:14:15.69 For example, did you know that 00:14:16.17\00:14:17.70 women who drink more water lower the 00:14:17.71\00:14:19.72 risk of heart attack or the 7 to 8 hours of 00:14:19.73\00:14:22.55 sleep a night can minimize your risk 00:14:22.56\00:14:24.17 of ever developing diabetes. 00:14:24.18\00:14:25.98 Find out how to lower your blood 00:14:26.60\00:14:27.96 pressure and much more if you're 00:14:28.02\00:14:29.74 looking for help not hike, then this 00:14:29.75\00:14:31.39 booklet is for you. Just log on to 00:14:31.40\00:14:33.44 3abn.org and click on free offers or call 00:14:33.45\00:14:36.66 us during regular business hours, 00:14:36.67\00:14:38.43 you'll be glad you did. 00:14:38.75\00:14:39.87 Welcome back, we're talking with 00:14:42.65\00:14:43.73 Dr. Neil Nedley. We're talking about cancer, 00:14:43.74\00:14:46.20 something that can really get our attention. 00:14:46.57\00:14:48.70 And trouble as greatly, and it is something to 00:14:49.22\00:14:52.07 be worried about. And we're talking about 00:14:52.08\00:14:54.00 treatments and before the break we talked 00:14:54.01\00:14:55.97 about several treatments that come from the 00:14:55.98\00:14:58.95 plant kingdom, if you will. We talked about 00:14:59.41\00:15:01.96 cholesterol, we talked about pomegranate juice. 00:15:01.97\00:15:04.37 And, Mistletoe extract, Mistletoe extract, 00:15:04.77\00:15:08.37 which was a shocking one for me, 00:15:08.38\00:15:11.13 I never heard about that before, but you also 00:15:11.14\00:15:13.01 mentioned in the break that sometimes green 00:15:13.02\00:15:15.22 tea is healthful. Yes, green tea not 00:15:15.23\00:15:18.10 because of caffeine for say, 'cause caffeine is a 00:15:18.11\00:15:20.76 co-carcinogen, we'd like the green tea have 00:15:20.77\00:15:23.10 the caffeine removed, it has a substance in it and 00:15:23.11\00:15:26.53 it's abbreviated from a long word EGCG, 00:15:26.54\00:15:30.12 green tea has five times as much EGCG as any 00:15:31.07\00:15:35.83 other substance has been found out there. 00:15:35.84\00:15:38.06 And EGCG, binds on the dihydrofolate reductase. 00:15:38.51\00:15:42.86 Okay, and that's what actually chemotherapy 00:15:43.60\00:15:46.15 drugs attempt to do sometimes in preventing 00:15:46.16\00:15:50.96 the cancer from multiplying and growing. 00:15:50.97\00:15:53.53 Dihydrofolate reductase is one of those things 00:15:54.04\00:15:56.24 that will accelerate cancer growth. 00:15:56.25\00:15:58.87 And so green tea has been shown to reduce 00:15:59.35\00:16:03.28 the risk of neural cancers and actually it's 00:16:03.29\00:16:09.17 also been shown to potentially help out in 00:16:09.18\00:16:13.82 other types of cancer as well. 00:16:13.83\00:16:15.41 Now, one of things we need to recognize 00:16:15.66\00:16:18.04 because EGCG can bind on to dihydrofolate 00:16:18.05\00:16:21.78 reductase it's not a good thing for people to 00:16:21.79\00:16:24.23 consume when they're pregnant. 00:16:24.24\00:16:25.59 Mess up the, because it will mess up the growth 00:16:26.88\00:16:29.05 of the developing fetus and it can actually be 00:16:29.06\00:16:31.21 associated with Spina Bifida and other neural 00:16:31.22\00:16:34.81 tube disorders, but if you have cancer, 00:16:34.82\00:16:36.91 it's one of those things that particularly if it's a 00:16:36.92\00:16:39.65 cancer that might be multiplying because of 00:16:39.66\00:16:42.59 dihydrofolate reductase, it maybe one of those 00:16:42.60\00:16:45.20 things that you would wanna partake. 00:16:45.21\00:16:46.59 And green tea you said, can you get the form 00:16:47.23\00:16:50.29 that doesn't have caffeine in it. 00:16:50.30\00:16:51.47 Yes, you can get it decaffeinated, a form of 00:16:51.48\00:16:53.42 green tea and still get same benefit, 00:16:53.43\00:16:55.36 in fact even greater benefit that way. 00:16:55.37\00:16:57.72 Well, are there any other plants that we 00:16:58.65\00:17:00.75 should know about, we have Mistletoe, 00:17:00.76\00:17:01.91 we have green tea, we have pomegranates, what else? 00:17:01.92\00:17:05.19 Well, there's recent study actually showing 00:17:05.61\00:17:09.46 that the Feverfew plant, at least one of the 00:17:09.47\00:17:13.19 extracts from the Feverfew plant can be 00:17:13.20\00:17:16.07 very helpful in blood cells malignancies, 00:17:16.08\00:17:18.79 particularly leukemia, and we have a 00:17:18.80\00:17:21.90 graphic about this as well. 00:17:21.91\00:17:23.37 Parthenolide is a chemical derived from 00:17:24.77\00:17:27.03 the fever few plant, and it destroyed acute 00:17:27.04\00:17:30.09 myeloid leukemia cells, leaving normal bones 00:17:30.10\00:17:33.38 marrow cells relatively unscathed. 00:17:33.39\00:17:35.73 And that's different then chemo which is gonna 00:17:36.38\00:17:38.87 also kill out the good cells at least temporaring. 00:17:38.88\00:17:41.73 Now the compound actually seems to get at 00:17:42.93\00:17:46.91 the root of the disease because it kills stem 00:17:46.92\00:17:49.82 cells that give rise to not only Acute 00:17:49.83\00:17:52.96 Myelocytic Leukemia but also Chronic 00:17:52.97\00:17:55.75 Myelocytic Leukemia and both of those are 00:17:55.90\00:17:58.79 major leukemia killers in our country. 00:17:58.80\00:18:01.55 This agent that was found to be much more 00:18:02.11\00:18:04.56 specific to leukemia cells then the standard 00:18:04.57\00:18:07.06 chemotherapy drug, which is Ara-C. 00:18:07.07\00:18:09.56 And just about everyone with these 00:18:10.06\00:18:11.60 forms of leukemia will get Ara-C. 00:18:11.61\00:18:13.62 But these compound from the Feverfew 00:18:14.13\00:18:15.99 plant, more important and more selective 00:18:16.00\00:18:19.83 against the actually bad cells. 00:18:19.84\00:18:22.18 And so again we're uncovering treatments 00:18:22.79\00:18:25.40 that are in the natural world that may be 00:18:25.41\00:18:28.20 superior to some of the chemical treatments 00:18:28.21\00:18:30.83 that we derived. Now normally we 00:18:30.84\00:18:32.52 wouldn't you know, cut some fresh Feverfew 00:18:32.53\00:18:36.09 for lunch or for dinner. And so this is really, 00:18:36.10\00:18:39.96 they are going out and just looking at plants 00:18:39.97\00:18:42.00 and, how do they come up with the idea of 00:18:42.47\00:18:43.68 which plants to study? Well it again it's bench 00:18:43.69\00:18:48.34 research that helps to determine this, but part 00:18:48.35\00:18:52.26 of the problem and all of this, I think we 00:18:52.27\00:18:53.91 would have been much more far ahead of the 00:18:53.92\00:18:55.60 game if it wasn't for some of the systems in 00:18:55.61\00:18:58.64 our economics. Because the Feverfew 00:18:58.65\00:19:02.44 plant is not something that you can pattern. 00:19:02.45\00:19:04.29 Okay, so you can't make money off it. 00:19:05.15\00:19:07.47 And so, if you can't pattern it, then you 00:19:07.79\00:19:10.45 know drug companies aren't gonna be able to 00:19:10.46\00:19:12.05 easily make money off of it. 00:19:12.06\00:19:13.54 Oh! I see. And so, they tend not study these 00:19:13.55\00:19:16.08 natural compounds. In fact, Dr. Aggarwal 00:19:16.09\00:19:19.32 from MD Anderson in Houston, one of the 00:19:20.35\00:19:22.77 largest cancer treatment centers in the United 00:19:22.78\00:19:25.30 States recently he has been studying turmeric. 00:19:25.31\00:19:27.97 Turmeric is another potent, it had some 00:19:28.91\00:19:32.80 potent chemicals in it, that seem to go against 00:19:32.81\00:19:35.12 certain types of cancer, in fact breast cancer, 00:19:35.13\00:19:37.87 melanoma even multiple myeloma 00:19:39.02\00:19:42.72 and prostate cancer, another, a number of 00:19:44.06\00:19:47.57 different cancers turmeric seems to be 00:19:47.58\00:19:49.51 able to go after. And what he has 00:19:49.52\00:19:53.03 been frustrated with is that no, 00:19:53.04\00:19:54.83 he can't get any money from drug companies to 00:19:54.84\00:19:57.42 support his studies. And so he said the 00:19:57.43\00:20:00.34 only place that he can get money is from 00:20:00.35\00:20:02.85 the National Institute of Health. 00:20:02.86\00:20:04.29 If they will you know give him some money 00:20:05.45\00:20:08.79 for the study or interestingly lately I'm 00:20:08.80\00:20:11.20 not sure how he's been doing it. 00:20:11.21\00:20:12.54 But lately he has been getting money from the 00:20:13.17\00:20:15.97 defense department for his studies, particularly 00:20:15.98\00:20:19.72 against breast cancer and turmeric. 00:20:19.73\00:20:21.44 And, why would they give money for that? 00:20:22.29\00:20:24.02 Well I think part of the reason is, is because 00:20:24.03\00:20:26.26 they almost have an unlimited budget at 00:20:26.27\00:20:28.92 present and so they have some extra money 00:20:28.93\00:20:31.78 to go around, I see. And so they have been 00:20:31.79\00:20:33.31 putting it forward for something that's they 00:20:33.32\00:20:36.77 will safe lives instead of destroy them. 00:20:36.78\00:20:38.70 Okay, right, well interesting 00:20:39.10\00:20:41.10 so turmeric as well. Well, you know a lot of 00:20:41.11\00:20:43.78 these things seem to be better than 00:20:43.79\00:20:45.72 you know or more specific we're saying, 00:20:46.67\00:20:49.24 although having the same affect in some 00:20:49.93\00:20:52.07 senses as chemotherapy and radiation and what 00:20:52.08\00:20:55.44 not, it seems to be even more specific but does 00:20:55.45\00:20:58.94 this mean that we should, should maybe 00:20:58.95\00:21:00.77 do away with radiation, chemotherapy and those 00:21:00.78\00:21:04.20 kind of things. Well not yet, 00:21:04.21\00:21:06.74 you know may be eventually we'll have 00:21:07.93\00:21:09.56 better types of chemotherapy but it's 00:21:09.57\00:21:11.80 not time yet to do away with them and in fact, 00:21:11.81\00:21:14.24 you know surgery needs to be the first line 00:21:16.07\00:21:18.28 treatments for cancer affects 00:21:18.29\00:21:19.96 it's a malleable to that. And you know I have to 00:21:19.97\00:21:23.96 remind people some people with cancer 00:21:23.97\00:21:25.67 mistakenly believe that a surgery has done the 00:21:25.68\00:21:28.40 cancer is gonna spread. And so I met people 00:21:28.41\00:21:31.49 that have a confined tumor for 00:21:31.50\00:21:33.16 instance to their breast. And they refuse to have 00:21:33.17\00:21:37.98 surgery done, and unfortunately that 00:21:37.99\00:21:40.43 breast cancer is very likely gonna spread. 00:21:40.44\00:21:42.79 And you know, barley green and those type of 00:21:44.20\00:21:46.55 things aren't gonna be enough necessarily to 00:21:46.56\00:21:48.65 prevent it's spread. Okay, and so I have to 00:21:48.66\00:21:51.29 remind them which came first, sin or surgery. 00:21:51.30\00:21:54.06 Okay, and often they will say well of course 00:21:54.84\00:21:58.05 sin came first but then I have to tell them that 00:21:58.06\00:22:00.34 you need read the book of Genesis again. 00:22:00.35\00:22:02.30 Well, that's right, surgery came first and 00:22:02.93\00:22:04.49 both patients were satisfied with the results. 00:22:04.50\00:22:06.91 Yeah, the man said wow! Man, okay yeah 00:22:06.92\00:22:11.21 so, that was a very affective surgery. 00:22:11.22\00:22:12.98 Very affective surgery, and yeah that's a good 00:22:13.65\00:22:16.57 point, so surgery wasn't part of the perfect world 00:22:16.58\00:22:19.64 before there was actually sin. 00:22:19.85\00:22:21.16 Anyhow there's evidence that God can 00:22:21.17\00:22:23.80 guide the hand of the surgeon and can really 00:22:23.81\00:22:25.78 help the surgeon to remove that tumor. 00:22:25.79\00:22:29.85 And so as part of the Christian treatment 00:22:30.52\00:22:33.93 I think surgery needs to be considered as an option. 00:22:33.94\00:22:36.55 Now, if it's already spread beyond the vital 00:22:36.56\00:22:38.29 organ and it's other places and surgery may 00:22:38.30\00:22:40.36 not be of much benefit. And so we might wanna 00:22:40.37\00:22:43.09 look at other treatments. Okay, so treatment of 00:22:43.10\00:22:46.82 cancer, you say on your next graphic you have 00:22:46.83\00:22:49.62 also comprehensive lifestyle. 00:22:49.63\00:22:52.03 Comprehensive Lifestyle needs to be part of the 00:22:53.19\00:22:55.42 treatment we've talked about that, 00:22:55.43\00:22:56.60 that's good diet. And actually good 00:22:56.61\00:22:59.36 exercise, now one of the studies show that 00:22:59.37\00:23:01.60 exercise reduces the risk of recurrence of 00:23:02.52\00:23:06.13 cancer no matter, how advanced that cancer is. 00:23:06.14\00:23:09.43 Turmeric or Curcumin, that's one of the things 00:23:10.63\00:23:12.62 we recommend for, since it seems to help a 00:23:12.63\00:23:14.83 lot of cancer, that's part of the 00:23:14.84\00:23:16.16 comprehensive lifestyle. But also surgery needs 00:23:16.17\00:23:19.17 to be considered and notice that one up there, 00:23:19.18\00:23:21.16 radiation and then chemotherapy, 00:23:21.43\00:23:24.71 certain types of chemotherapy can 00:23:24.72\00:23:26.46 virtually cure certain cancers. 00:23:26.47\00:23:28.36 And you know lymphoma for instance, 00:23:29.11\00:23:30.68 seventy eight percent chance of cure now, 00:23:30.69\00:23:32.67 where before it was universally fatal. 00:23:33.51\00:23:35.24 And then we'll also talk about the last treatment 00:23:36.27\00:23:38.82 which is also vitally important 00:23:38.83\00:23:40.85 and that is prayer. Okay, so any of those 00:23:40.86\00:23:44.25 we need to you know talk about little bit 00:23:44.26\00:23:46.28 more, well you said surgery originated 00:23:46.29\00:23:48.73 before the fall of man. What about the radiation? 00:23:49.40\00:23:53.08 Do you have any Biblical metaphors 00:23:53.09\00:23:54.63 concerning that. Well we know that 00:23:54.64\00:23:58.94 when our protective layer went away 00:24:00.00\00:24:01.99 after Adam and Eve sinned, that if we were 00:24:03.21\00:24:06.00 exposed to God radiation, it would 00:24:06.01\00:24:08.19 actually destroy us. But focal radiation 00:24:08.20\00:24:11.30 we want to destroy certain cancers and for 00:24:11.31\00:24:13.97 instance a proton beam radiation the 00:24:13.98\00:24:16.77 Loma Linda and Harvard University 00:24:16.78\00:24:18.35 utilize can destroy prostate cancer and it's 00:24:18.36\00:24:20.74 been very effective. Other types of 00:24:20.75\00:24:22.72 radiations can kill other types of cancers, 00:24:22.73\00:24:25.49 sometimes it's just a treatment to prevent the 00:24:25.50\00:24:27.97 pain or to treat the pain. And it's not curative but 00:24:27.98\00:24:32.62 when it's focal sometimes radiation is 00:24:33.04\00:24:35.47 the best treatment interesting Ellen White 00:24:35.48\00:24:37.53 who wrote a lot about health. 00:24:37.92\00:24:39.03 And healthful living got cancer above her eye 00:24:39.97\00:24:43.35 and when she had cancer, she underwent 00:24:43.84\00:24:46.53 x-ray treatment, 11 radiation 00:24:46.54\00:24:48.58 herapy treatments. And when she died 00:24:48.59\00:24:51.42 years later the cancer was not there it had 00:24:51.43\00:24:54.32 been cured or least in remission as a result of 00:24:54.33\00:24:57.32 the radiation okay, so taking 00:24:57.33\00:24:59.90 nothing off the table, surgical means, 00:24:59.91\00:25:01.87 radiation means, chemotherapy. 00:25:01.88\00:25:03.72 Chemotherapy, that tends to be a little more 00:25:04.58\00:25:06.28 controversial, 'cause chemotherapy can kill 00:25:06.29\00:25:08.56 the good cells. And how I look at it is again from 00:25:08.57\00:25:12.72 a Biblical example, when the Amorites, 00:25:12.73\00:25:15.37 when the Israelites wanted to go after the 00:25:15.38\00:25:17.01 Amorites at first, the Lord said, no their 00:25:17.02\00:25:18.90 probationary period is not up, but when their 00:25:18.91\00:25:21.03 probationary period was up. 00:25:21.04\00:25:22.35 He said to wipe them out entirely and that's 00:25:23.28\00:25:25.73 because if they, any of them were left behind 00:25:25.74\00:25:28.05 they could actually destroy the world, 00:25:28.06\00:25:29.84 the entire world spiritually. 00:25:30.50\00:25:31.97 And when you have cancer diagnosed in 00:25:32.56\00:25:34.35 your cells, I would say the probationary period 00:25:34.36\00:25:36.72 of your cells is up. Those cells at least, 00:25:36.73\00:25:38.98 those cells unless those cells are destroyed that 00:25:38.99\00:25:42.73 cancer will destroy you, it will take your life. 00:25:42.74\00:25:45.80 And so that means we need to go to war and 00:25:46.15\00:25:47.71 the Israelites would lose some good people, 00:25:47.72\00:25:49.42 some good soldiers in those wars, that's what 00:25:49.43\00:25:51.62 wars do sometimes, that's why it's so bad. 00:25:51.63\00:25:53.94 But if we kill out the cancer cells in the 00:25:54.96\00:25:58.28 process then the life can be spared and the 00:25:58.29\00:26:00.92 individual can live for many years later and so 00:26:00.93\00:26:04.81 it's good to ask the question in regards to 00:26:04.82\00:26:06.99 how curative chemotherapy is? 00:26:07.22\00:26:10.65 And you know sometimes the chance 00:26:11.09\00:26:12.67 of cure is so low that it's hardly worth and it's 00:26:12.68\00:26:15.34 just gonna decrease the quality of life, but if we 00:26:15.35\00:26:17.44 have a high likelihood of cure, let's take 00:26:17.45\00:26:20.03 advantage of it. What about the arsenal 00:26:20.04\00:26:22.78 of prayer in the armory against cancer, 00:26:22.79\00:26:26.42 we leave it to the last, but should we leave it 00:26:26.43\00:26:29.64 to the last? We shouldn't, anyone 00:26:29.65\00:26:31.39 who has cancer ought to utilize this. 00:26:31.40\00:26:33.57 Spontaneous regression of cancer it's abbreviated 00:26:33.58\00:26:35.91 SCR, every episode of spontaneous regression 00:26:35.92\00:26:39.82 of cancer in the medical literature has been 00:26:39.83\00:26:41.64 associated with prayer. Not just a prayer for the 00:26:41.65\00:26:44.99 cancer cure, but a prayer putting the 00:26:45.00\00:26:48.29 individual into the will of God. 00:26:48.30\00:26:50.27 None of those people that were cured from 00:26:51.07\00:26:52.86 cancer anticipated they were gonna get cured, 00:26:52.87\00:26:55.34 they had just put their life into the hands of 00:26:55.88\00:26:57.95 God and they were shocked as anybody 00:26:57.96\00:27:00.67 when the scans were done and follow up and 00:27:00.68\00:27:02.64 they had no cancer and they're still living. 00:27:02.65\00:27:05.69 And so, I would recommend for anyone 00:27:06.38\00:27:08.72 who has cancer, this is the time to get your life 00:27:08.73\00:27:11.00 right with God and put your entire 00:27:11.79\00:27:15.67 life into the will of God. 00:27:15.68\00:27:17.19 And probably, prayer is also preventive, 00:27:18.48\00:27:21.09 once you say, so it's something that should 00:27:21.34\00:27:22.96 be part of the lifestyle even before. 00:27:22.97\00:27:24.51 That's right, part of the habitual lifestyle and 00:27:24.52\00:27:28.47 asking the Lord to help us through every means. 00:27:29.05\00:27:31.21 We've been talking with Dr. Neil Nedley, 00:27:31.71\00:27:33.41 we talked about cancer, it's a very troubling 00:27:33.42\00:27:36.69 diagnosis for many but we have found that 00:27:36.70\00:27:38.89 there is hope, that there is help. 00:27:38.90\00:27:40.70 And we've looked at some of the plant 00:27:41.45\00:27:43.32 sources, we've looked at some of the traditional 00:27:43.92\00:27:46.37 means of stopping, eliminating, curing cancer. 00:27:46.38\00:27:50.96 We hope that this program has been 00:27:51.51\00:27:52.53 helpful to you and that you will take a moment, 00:27:52.54\00:27:55.81 put your life again in God's hands through prayer. 00:27:56.13\00:27:59.19
