The following program presents principles 00:00:01.98\00:00:02.97 designed to promote good health and is not 00:00:02.98\00:00:05.33 intended to take the place of 00:00:05.34\00:00:06.59 personalized professional care. 00:00:06.60\00:00:08.37 The opinions and ideas expressed 00:00:08.75\00:00:10.57 are those of the speaker. 00:00:10.85\00:00:11.98 Viewers are encouraged to draw their own 00:00:12.31\00:00:14.33 conclusions about the information presented. 00:00:14.34\00:00:16.60 Hello and welcome to 'Health for a Lifetime'. 00:00:49.41\00:00:52.04 Today joining us in the studio is Dr. Clarence Ing 00:00:52.84\00:00:57.30 from Weimar institute in California. 00:00:57.64\00:00:59.60 I'm Don MacIntosh and today we are going to be 00:01:00.36\00:01:02.27 talking about a very interesting and important 00:01:02.28\00:01:04.91 subject that is food born illnesses and really, 00:01:04.92\00:01:08.45 what's another way of saying that Dr. Ing. 00:01:08.46\00:01:10.67 Well food born diseases are diseases that may 00:01:10.80\00:01:13.47 be caused by you eating different types of food. 00:01:13.48\00:01:16.13 Particularly today we're gonna be talking about 00:01:16.81\00:01:19.69 diseases that are increased or increase your risk 00:01:19.70\00:01:22.96 of it if you eat animal, what we call animal foods. 00:01:22.97\00:01:26.02 You know like meat, fish, chicken anything 00:01:26.03\00:01:28.43 which comes from an animal and that may even include 00:01:28.44\00:01:31.21 eggs and dairy products, there are risks involved. 00:01:31.79\00:01:35.15 Well those of you who are may be not familiar 00:01:36.65\00:01:38.43 with Weimar institute; it is an institute in 00:01:38.44\00:01:41.09 California which I think just recently was 00:01:41.10\00:01:43.93 the responsible committee on medicine gave you 00:01:43.94\00:01:47.83 a higher rating for your weight loss program, right. 00:01:47.84\00:01:50.74 Physicians committed for responsible medicines 00:01:51.10\00:01:53.83 said that we are the number two 00:01:53.84\00:01:55.11 weight loss program in the United States. 00:01:55.12\00:01:57.22 It's exciting to know that 00:01:57.56\00:01:59.63 we can help people lose weight and that 00:01:59.97\00:02:01.53 other people are recognizing this. 00:02:01.54\00:02:02.95 And for this we are very grateful. 00:02:03.41\00:02:04.74 But it's pretty neat to see how when people come in, 00:02:05.05\00:02:08.06 they change their lifestyle and we tell 00:02:08.07\00:02:10.38 them you know you are not going on a diet 00:02:10.39\00:02:12.16 because people say if I going to diet 00:02:12.46\00:02:14.68 I can get off the diet but say, 00:02:15.47\00:02:17.04 we are making changes for a lifetime. 00:02:17.05\00:02:19.17 Well speaking of changes for a lifetime 00:02:20.26\00:02:21.91 what are some things that we should be 00:02:22.28\00:02:23.74 concerned about in terms of the things we eat, 00:02:23.75\00:02:26.59 you mentioned cows, chickens and fish. 00:02:26.60\00:02:31.37 Well as we look at cows it's been interesting 00:02:31.91\00:02:34.15 to note that in the last few years we found 00:02:34.16\00:02:37.89 significantly more problems 00:02:37.90\00:02:39.41 then we realized before the cows. 00:02:39.42\00:02:41.30 Something that's been in the news for the 00:02:41.38\00:02:43.20 last couple of years is mad cow disease or if you 00:02:43.21\00:02:47.23 want a medical term Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy. 00:02:47.24\00:02:50.90 Now this is a very interesting disease 00:02:51.49\00:02:53.61 which is now recognized and we 00:02:54.20\00:02:57.86 see this and we're begin to see the 00:02:57.87\00:03:00.38 problems in human beings and this was 00:03:00.39\00:03:02.77 first became apparent in England and this 00:03:02.83\00:03:06.67 was discovered in 1996 initially they found 00:03:06.68\00:03:10.73 the disease in animals mad cow disease in 00:03:10.74\00:03:12.93 animals in 1986, it was discovered in animals. 00:03:12.94\00:03:15.79 And at that time they thought that if it 00:03:16.52\00:03:20.79 affects the cows, that's fine. 00:03:20.80\00:03:22.58 Well if it isn't fine but at least that 00:03:23.85\00:03:25.38 doesn't involve human beings. 00:03:25.39\00:03:26.63 You know that humans could eat the cows 00:03:26.64\00:03:27.96 and there was no concern that humans 00:03:28.45\00:03:31.33 would become sick with this type of problem. 00:03:31.34\00:03:34.06 So in 1996 so things have changed at that time 00:03:34.56\00:03:38.44 they said you know there may be a link 00:03:38.45\00:03:40.46 between mad cow disease and what were 00:03:40.47\00:03:43.41 we find in humans its called A New Variant 00:03:43.42\00:03:46.06 of something called Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, 00:03:46.07\00:03:48.84 the disease which has been around for quite a time. 00:03:48.85\00:03:51.48 Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is one of a family of 00:03:52.02\00:03:55.50 diseases called the transmissible 00:03:55.51\00:03:58.77 Spongiform Encephalopathies. 00:03:59.10\00:04:01.25 It's similar to that now these diseases 00:04:01.26\00:04:04.50 are also found in other animals. 00:04:04.77\00:04:06.69 We find that in animals they affect not only 00:04:07.09\00:04:09.74 cattle they've had a similar disease in sheep 00:04:09.98\00:04:13.65 it's called Scrapie, they found 00:04:14.09\00:04:16.39 this disease in mink which have eaten. 00:04:16.40\00:04:19.39 Say sheep that have been that have died from 00:04:20.49\00:04:23.51 Scrapie and it's also been found in other 00:04:23.52\00:04:26.13 animals that have eaten something 00:04:26.14\00:04:27.83 we call Animal By-Product. 00:04:27.84\00:04:29.94 I know in your note here 00:04:29.95\00:04:31.85 that you said this also in cats. Right. 00:04:31.86\00:04:34.33 Should we have cats in our homes? Well, there again 00:04:34.34\00:04:37.46 that's a cat eat in the animal by-product. 00:04:37.47\00:04:39.57 If you go by the supermarket or wherever 00:04:39.58\00:04:42.01 you buy a pet food and read the label on your 00:04:42.02\00:04:44.75 pet foods it was interesting we did this 00:04:44.76\00:04:46.68 the other day and the significant number of the 00:04:46.69\00:04:51.37 pet foods have something called Animal By-Product. 00:04:51.79\00:04:54.52 Where does animal by-product come from? 00:04:54.90\00:04:56.81 Animal by-product comes from 00:04:57.07\00:04:58.42 what we call the rendering plants. 00:04:58.43\00:05:00.01 Rendering plants are the plants that take 00:05:00.58\00:05:02.93 through means of the cattle, road kill, 00:05:02.94\00:05:06.76 road kill other animals that have been 00:05:06.77\00:05:09.03 put to sleep, you know because no one wants to 00:05:09.04\00:05:11.93 claim them from pounds and all of these are then 00:05:11.94\00:05:15.88 sent to the rendering plant and they are process 00:05:15.89\00:05:18.12 and they become made protein meal 00:05:18.13\00:05:20.12 which is then use to, put in the food, yeah 00:05:20.78\00:05:23.74 it's sold to the pet food producers, 00:05:23.75\00:05:26.02 it sold to other people who wanted 00:05:26.03\00:05:28.44 enrich the food of their animals. 00:05:28.45\00:05:31.03 So what it would be say to say then 00:05:31.04\00:05:32.09 if you are going to having animal, having animal 00:05:32.10\00:05:34.09 that doesn't eat other animal for lunch. 00:05:34.10\00:05:36.26 Right. And then protect yourself from that. 00:05:36.81\00:05:38.72 Tell me little bit about how this BSE that's 00:05:39.04\00:05:42.37 mad cow disease actually work, 00:05:42.38\00:05:44.76 what does it do in the body once it is fatal, 00:05:44.77\00:05:47.16 what happens if you contract that disease? 00:05:47.60\00:05:50.15 Okay well let's go back to Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. 00:05:50.49\00:05:54.04 Normally we find this in about one person 00:05:54.05\00:05:56.54 in a million people in a average population. 00:05:56.91\00:06:00.19 And this usually affects only older people. 00:06:01.08\00:06:04.03 But what has happened in the United Kingdom, 00:06:04.36\00:06:06.42 they have found that younger people were 00:06:07.91\00:06:09.62 getting a disease which is similar to 00:06:09.63\00:06:12.84 Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease and so they call it a new 00:06:13.50\00:06:15.86 variant or the new form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. 00:06:15.87\00:06:18.86 And they have related this 00:06:19.14\00:06:20.51 then to the mad cow diseases. 00:06:20.52\00:06:22.40 The thing is what produces the infection or the 00:06:22.98\00:06:27.30 particle that produces infection is called Prion. 00:06:27.31\00:06:29.91 And Prions are interesting they are 00:06:30.56\00:06:32.43 protein particles, it's not like a virus, 00:06:32.44\00:06:34.66 it's not like a bacteria. But one makes it some, 00:06:35.17\00:06:39.13 makes this fearful of this is if you were normally 00:06:39.54\00:06:43.82 use the temperature which you can sterilize 00:06:44.09\00:06:45.96 something like 212 degrees Fahrenheit, 00:06:45.97\00:06:48.60 a 100 degrees Celsius, the particle is still 00:06:48.61\00:06:51.91 infectious in fact they raise to the temperature 00:06:51.92\00:06:53.89 of the 680 degrees Fahrenheit. Wow! 00:06:53.90\00:06:57.47 and this is where things would normally become ash 00:06:57.48\00:07:00.16 and it was still possible to cause an infection. 00:07:00.17\00:07:02.90 You can treat with formalin, 00:07:03.20\00:07:04.59 you can treat it with alcohol, 00:07:04.94\00:07:06.31 gamma radiation and it can still produce an infection. 00:07:06.65\00:07:09.40 So any of these things they've been talking about 00:07:09.41\00:07:11.53 recently in the news like increasing 00:07:11.54\00:07:13.17 radiation of meat or different things 00:07:13.18\00:07:15.18 before it goes on the market. 00:07:15.19\00:07:16.42 Are not gonna touch a prion 00:07:16.43\00:07:17.66 in other words it's gonna be path 00:07:17.67\00:07:19.04 regardless of what you are doing. 00:07:19.05\00:07:20.64 Right, it's gonna go through and still has the 00:07:20.65\00:07:22.65 potential for causing an affection if it has, 00:07:22.66\00:07:25.69 you know if it is infective worth of BSE. 00:07:25.70\00:07:28.12 So is there any place that you know for someone 00:07:28.37\00:07:31.81 who wants to eat beef, should there, 00:07:31.82\00:07:33.72 should we will be eating that? 00:07:34.04\00:07:35.65 Well I think that if you really wanna be 00:07:35.97\00:07:37.69 safe and don't wanna have any risk for those 00:07:37.70\00:07:39.95 types of problems or diseases, 00:07:40.29\00:07:41.94 I think it's really best avoid beef 00:07:42.33\00:07:43.99 actually any fish and chicken as well. 00:07:45.20\00:07:47.48 Because, you know if you want what's really best 00:07:48.01\00:07:51.00 your best diet of course 00:07:51.35\00:07:52.80 comes back to a plant based diet. 00:07:52.81\00:07:54.57 Let me ask another question that I don't know 00:07:55.23\00:07:57.77 whether or not we've touched on, what exactly 00:07:57.78\00:07:59.94 does this Creu or you know, 00:07:59.95\00:08:03.44 Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, Mad Cow disease 00:08:04.83\00:08:08.18 the human variant, what does it actually do, 00:08:08.19\00:08:09.99 what if you contract that what happens to you? 00:08:10.00\00:08:12.26 Well one thing we know is it's universally failed, 00:08:12.27\00:08:15.33 there is no known cure. And what happens initially 00:08:15.34\00:08:18.48 some of the earliest symptoms are first you 00:08:18.49\00:08:21.00 would have memory loss and there is confusion, 00:08:21.01\00:08:23.97 strange behavior, 00:08:24.41\00:08:25.59 and there is difficulty in walking, 00:08:25.60\00:08:27.31 finally the person is unable to care for 00:08:27.62\00:08:29.75 themselves and eventually they die. 00:08:29.76\00:08:32.38 So, you know it's not a disease, yeah it's not a 00:08:33.35\00:08:37.47 disease that you want because if you get 00:08:37.48\00:08:39.51 the disease if it's diagnosed and confirmed 00:08:39.52\00:08:41.77 we don't have any cure, 00:08:41.78\00:08:43.05 there is no known treatment. 00:08:43.31\00:08:44.50 Let me ask another question I know there 00:08:44.82\00:08:46.62 has been a lot of talk recently about antibiotics 00:08:46.63\00:08:49.69 and how they are used with cattle; 00:08:49.70\00:08:51.29 do you have any concerns about that? 00:08:51.30\00:08:52.61 Yes. The reason they use antibiotics 00:08:52.92\00:08:56.53 and food production in animals is the animals grow 00:08:56.54\00:09:00.08 faster and of course to get a better survival rate. 00:09:00.09\00:09:02.75 Some of the crops that using antibiotics and 00:09:03.08\00:09:05.51 animal husbandry of rising of animals is that, 00:09:05.87\00:09:09.01 we're finding that the bacteria that are there 00:09:09.40\00:09:11.57 then become resistant to the antibiotic. 00:09:11.88\00:09:15.55 So this is leading to more resistant bacteria 00:09:15.93\00:09:20.89 which means that of, someone should eat 00:09:20.90\00:09:23.33 the animal and get sick with some type of food 00:09:23.34\00:09:25.79 poisoning with the bacteria that is resistant 00:09:25.80\00:09:29.33 to the antibiotics when they go to their healthcare 00:09:29.34\00:09:32.43 provider and they get the medicine that 00:09:32.44\00:09:35.06 would normally cure them of a problem. 00:09:35.07\00:09:37.16 You know, the Bacteroides, ah my favorite 00:09:37.17\00:09:39.67 antibiotic I'm so glad, this was given. 00:09:39.68\00:09:42.78 Now there is, but the antibiotic doesn't have 00:09:43.09\00:09:45.28 have any effect against the bacteria 00:09:45.29\00:09:46.79 and the person still remains sick 00:09:46.80\00:09:48.56 and unfortunately sometimes they may die. 00:09:48.57\00:09:50.84 So are we falling behind in terms of the 00:09:50.85\00:09:53.75 new antibiotics that are being created 00:09:53.76\00:09:55.89 to fight these diseases? 00:09:56.20\00:09:57.72 Are we more susceptible now than 00:09:58.19\00:10:01.33 say ten years ago? Yes we are. 00:10:01.34\00:10:03.67 Because what we are finding now is that because 00:10:03.94\00:10:06.95 of the development of more resistant bacteria. 00:10:06.96\00:10:09.56 The scientists are concerned that 00:10:10.64\00:10:12.04 we won't be able to develop enough 00:10:12.05\00:10:13.80 antibiotics to take care of the bacteria 00:10:13.81\00:10:16.11 that we have because of increasing resistance 00:10:16.61\00:10:19.13 and the discriminate use of antibiotics by people. 00:10:19.14\00:10:23.45 What we find now is that we may end up 00:10:24.06\00:10:26.97 back as we were in the 20s and 30s 00:10:26.98\00:10:29.01 before the ear of antibiotics were. 00:10:29.02\00:10:30.84 Most of the antibiotics that we have will, 00:10:30.85\00:10:33.99 all of the bacteria that we're trying to treat 00:10:34.94\00:10:36.70 will be resistant to them and the antibiotics 00:10:36.71\00:10:39.87 will have no effects, 00:10:39.88\00:10:40.87 we essentially like in the pre-antibiotic era. 00:10:40.88\00:10:43.41 I've talked with some healthcare providers 00:10:44.42\00:10:46.52 and what not they've said that, even now 00:10:46.53\00:10:48.99 there are strains of disease that no antibiotic 00:10:49.00\00:10:51.59 can really touch, it keeps that at bed 00:10:51.60\00:10:53.46 but it doesn't really eradicated. 00:10:53.47\00:10:55.06 Well this is true and one of the most important 00:10:55.43\00:10:57.40 antibiotics now has available 00:10:57.41\00:10:59.07 something called Vancomycin and this 00:10:59.08\00:11:02.07 has been useful against resistant staff. 00:11:02.08\00:11:05.55 What we are finding now that there are 00:11:06.27\00:11:07.79 some strains of staff that are resistant to 00:11:07.80\00:11:10.79 Vancomycin and even when they are using 00:11:10.80\00:11:13.22 combinations of Vancomycin with other antibiotics, 00:11:13.23\00:11:16.18 we aren't able to describe the bacteria 00:11:16.48\00:11:18.22 and this is the serious problem which 00:11:18.23\00:11:20.62 we are now facing in the medical world. 00:11:20.63\00:11:22.67 So someone doesn't eat foods that have been 00:11:22.68\00:11:26.89 given antibiotics in other words 00:11:26.90\00:11:28.47 specifically meat products, animals then 00:11:29.25\00:11:32.59 they are going to be more responsive to antibiotic, 00:11:32.60\00:11:35.37 should they ever get sick is what you are saying? 00:11:35.65\00:11:37.35 Well yes you know though the advantage of not 00:11:37.36\00:11:40.88 eating the meat is sometimes there may be 00:11:40.89\00:11:43.03 antibiotic residues that are in the meat and then 00:11:43.04\00:11:45.81 when you eat the meat then you may, 00:11:45.82\00:11:48.45 if you are sensitive you might have a allergic 00:11:48.97\00:11:52.80 reaction if you then take the antibiotic or 00:11:52.81\00:11:56.38 giving the antibiotics one of the reason, 00:11:56.39\00:11:58.30 but the main problem with antibiotics 00:11:58.77\00:12:00.67 using the animal husbandry 00:12:00.68\00:12:01.73 is increasing resistant bacteria. 00:12:01.74\00:12:04.75 Before we go to our break I want to talk 00:12:05.89\00:12:08.22 little bit about fish, 00:12:08.23\00:12:09.20 do you have a concern about that? 00:12:09.21\00:12:10.63 Yes fish because of their wide range and 00:12:11.73\00:12:14.48 because they you know they take in 00:12:14.49\00:12:17.19 what's in the environment if their environment is 00:12:17.20\00:12:19.59 polluted with heavy metals or industrial 00:12:19.60\00:12:22.25 waste then we have the problem toxicities 00:12:22.26\00:12:25.39 there especially if it's like lead, mercury, 00:12:25.40\00:12:30.19 TCBs and other things which are used in 00:12:30.56\00:12:33.19 industry and sometimes industrial effluent waste 00:12:33.20\00:12:36.87 is discharged into the rivers, 00:12:36.88\00:12:38.46 the streams in the water and in the oceans. 00:12:38.47\00:12:40.80 And so even though you may get fish that swim 00:12:41.11\00:12:44.14 way out in the middle of the ocean tunas, 00:12:44.15\00:12:46.29 salmon and other things depending on where they 00:12:46.30\00:12:49.74 travel and what's in the water there may still be 00:12:50.53\00:12:53.61 pollution or toxins in this fish 00:12:53.62\00:12:57.01 that we really don't want to expose us. 00:12:57.02\00:12:58.86 So in reading your notes you say there is a 00:13:00.26\00:13:02.88 million more possibilities, 00:13:02.89\00:13:06.03 I don't know how to say that exactly. 00:13:06.58\00:13:07.96 Bioconcentration, Bioconcentration. 00:13:08.30\00:13:10.25 What do you mean by that, is what you're 00:13:11.72\00:13:13.53 meaning that the fish somehow the water 00:13:13.54\00:13:16.00 comes into them then they take out all the 00:13:16.01\00:13:17.80 things that may harm us and they just 00:13:17.81\00:13:19.79 concentrate them in their own little bodies. 00:13:19.80\00:13:21.41 Well part of that yes, because some of it 00:13:21.71\00:13:23.39 ends up in the plant life the smaller fish 00:13:23.40\00:13:25.88 eat the plants through the Phytoplankton 00:13:25.89\00:13:27.87 then the larger fish eat the smaller fish 00:13:28.16\00:13:30.02 in the larger ones, you know 00:13:30.03\00:13:31.73 this is the higher up the food chain the 00:13:31.74\00:13:33.42 larger the fish then the more effect 00:13:33.43\00:13:35.24 it has for concentrating this, 00:13:35.25\00:13:36.81 you may start with something which is 00:13:36.82\00:13:38.06 only 200th part per million in the water 00:13:38.07\00:13:41.04 but then by the time it gets into the animal 00:13:41.49\00:13:43.97 that may be increase up to million times 00:13:43.98\00:13:45.98 or into the fish. So this is our concern. 00:13:45.99\00:13:48.65 Can this cause cancer? 00:13:48.96\00:13:50.07 Well if it's are wide chemicals, yes, 00:13:50.76\00:13:52.59 if they are carcinogens like PCBs very definitely, 00:13:52.96\00:13:55.84 they increases the risk of cancer. 00:13:56.23\00:13:58.57 We are talking with Dr. Clarence Ing 00:13:59.26\00:14:01.68 from Weimar institute in California. 00:14:01.69\00:14:03.83 We've been talking about meat, 00:14:04.56\00:14:05.83 we've been talkingc about mad cow disease 00:14:06.12\00:14:08.40 when we come back we're gonna talk about chicken, 00:14:08.41\00:14:11.57 we're gonna talk about milk we're gonna talk about 00:14:11.58\00:14:13.86 things that can very well save your life 00:14:13.87\00:14:15.63 and we hope that you join us. 00:14:15.64\00:14:17.06 Have you found yourself wishing 00:14:25.44\00:14:26.74 that you could shed a few pounds? 00:14:26.75\00:14:27.94 Have you been in on a diet for most of your 00:14:28.66\00:14:30.22 life but not found anything 00:14:30.23\00:14:32.04 that were really keep the weight off. 00:14:32.05\00:14:33.54 If you've answered yes to any of these questions 00:14:34.07\00:14:36.41 then we have a solution for you to it works. 00:14:36.76\00:14:39.15 Dr. Hans Diehl and Dr. Aileen Ludington 00:14:39.81\00:14:42.25 have written a marvelous booklet called 00:14:42.26\00:14:44.25 Reversing Obesity Naturally that we 00:14:44.78\00:14:47.11 would like to send it to you free of charge. 00:14:47.12\00:14:48.93 Here's a medically sound approach 00:14:49.68\00:14:51.15 successfully used by thousands who were 00:14:51.16\00:14:53.52 able to eat more had lose weight permanently 00:14:53.53\00:14:55.95 without feeling guilty for hungry through lifestyle. 00:14:56.27\00:14:59.24 Dr. Diehl and Dr. Aileen have been featured 00:15:00.23\00:15:02.50 on 3ABN and then this booklet, they presented 00:15:02.51\00:15:05.46 a sensible approach to eating nutrition 00:15:05.47\00:15:07.49 and life style changes that can help you prevent 00:15:07.50\00:15:10.11 heart disease diabetes and even cancer. 00:15:10.12\00:15:12.51 Call or write today for your free copy of 00:15:13.12\00:15:15.01 Reversing Obesity Naturally. Oh there is wonderful 00:17:19.86\00:17:22.14 fruits and vegetables and cereal grains 00:17:22.15\00:17:24.40 things like this and I really thank that those 00:17:24.41\00:17:27.40 of us, people who are not used to eating these 00:17:27.41\00:17:30.16 types foods need to expand their dietary horizons. 00:17:30.17\00:17:33.40 Because it's interesting in what people eat. 00:17:33.73\00:17:36.42 If you take a food Estonian people you find 00:17:37.00\00:17:40.07 that the people usually eat certain foods may be 00:17:40.08\00:17:43.55 15 or maximum 20 different foods and they 00:17:43.82\00:17:47.48 go through this list and they just 00:17:47.49\00:17:49.07 continue to go over and over this. 00:17:49.74\00:17:51.25 And those of the foods that basically 00:17:51.58\00:17:53.26 and they very, very lot of from that. 00:17:53.59\00:17:55.50 So what we wanna do is expand your food horizon, 00:17:55.92\00:17:58.97 get you try foods that you have never tried 00:17:58.98\00:18:00.90 before and these are some interesting and 00:18:00.91\00:18:04.25 exciting things that you really missing out 00:18:04.26\00:18:06.02 on especially when you learn to how to 00:18:06.40\00:18:07.68 prepare then way up. You know we want to 00:18:07.69\00:18:09.43 talk about E.Coli and how does that effects 00:18:09.44\00:18:12.16 you know some meat sources and what not 00:18:12.17\00:18:14.13 but before we go to that I wanna go to that 00:18:14.14\00:18:16.05 next, just a question passing we talked 00:18:16.06\00:18:19.04 about pesticides and fish we've talked about 00:18:19.05\00:18:21.18 how they are magnified with their 00:18:21.19\00:18:24.75 little bodies and then we eat them. 00:18:24.76\00:18:26.49 Aren't there pesticides with animal 00:18:26.94\00:18:28.51 or rather plant products as well? Yes 00:18:28.52\00:18:31.46 there are pesticides that are useful plant 00:18:31.47\00:18:33.58 products as well. And if the pesticides are 00:18:33.59\00:18:37.40 used properly the way they are supposed to 00:18:37.41\00:18:39.77 the pesticide there are amount of pesticides 00:18:40.54\00:18:42.87 what you find in plants is usually much 00:18:42.88\00:18:46.75 lower than what you are going to find in meat. 00:18:46.76\00:18:48.84 In other words the numbers that we use 00:18:49.14\00:18:50.54 if you eat meat, meat will have about 14.5 times 00:18:50.55\00:18:54.01 amount of pesticides that you would find in plants. 00:18:54.02\00:18:56.85 Dairy products approximately 5.5 times 00:18:57.34\00:18:59.70 and this is again because of 00:18:59.71\00:19:01.51 what we call Bioconcentration. 00:19:01.52\00:19:03.60 It takes so many pounds of plants to 00:19:03.99\00:19:06.65 produce so many pounds of meat and the 00:19:06.66\00:19:08.79 ratio varies from the animal and it was 00:19:08.80\00:19:10.50 from five to ten pounds of plants, 00:19:10.51\00:19:12.35 to you know our grains to produce the pound 00:19:12.98\00:19:15.21 of you know chicken or a pound of meat. 00:19:15.22\00:19:17.50 So there is factor Bioconcentration, 00:19:17.91\00:19:20.32 dairy products likewise because of 00:19:20.66\00:19:23.06 what the cow eats if there are chemicals 00:19:23.34\00:19:26.46 and pesticides there, they are going to be 00:19:26.47\00:19:28.45 some found in the milk as well. 00:19:28.78\00:19:30.32 Let's talk about hamburger. Well hamburgers you know 00:19:30.84\00:19:34.37 that used to be one of my favorite foods but now 00:19:34.38\00:19:38.03 that I found out what hamburgers are made 00:19:38.04\00:19:41.01 from, it's on the list that I leave out. 00:19:41.02\00:19:43.88 But interesting enough, if you heard of something 00:19:44.16\00:19:45.96 they call hamburger diseases and hamburger 00:19:45.97\00:19:47.91 diseases is associated with one type of bacteria 00:19:47.92\00:19:50.81 called E.Coli and it's a certain type and it's 00:19:51.22\00:19:55.07 E.Coli 0157:H7 and if you eat hamburger 00:19:55.45\00:20:01.80 that has been contaminated with this 00:20:01.81\00:20:04.03 bacteria you can get very sick. 00:20:04.04\00:20:06.80 It causes something called 00:20:07.13\00:20:08.42 Hemolytic-Uremic Syndrome and what happens is 00:20:08.43\00:20:12.11 the red blood cells in the side of the person 00:20:12.12\00:20:14.48 begin to hemolyzed or disintegrate. 00:20:14.86\00:20:16.92 And when they disintegrate this blocks 00:20:17.20\00:20:20.18 the kidneys, causes symptoms of stroke, 00:20:20.19\00:20:22.99 causes other problems and especially 00:20:23.63\00:20:25.25 if this happens in small children. 00:20:25.26\00:20:26.90 And children have died from this disease. 00:20:27.27\00:20:30.41 Now this disease can be prevented if the 00:20:30.68\00:20:34.44 meat has cooked well done then this will kill 00:20:34.45\00:20:37.60 the bacteria, but unfortunately some 00:20:37.61\00:20:41.22 people don't like their hamburgers, 00:20:41.23\00:20:43.19 their meat cooked well done. 00:20:43.20\00:20:44.72 So you say hamburgers or meat, 00:20:45.09\00:20:46.46 does this mean that you can find this in 00:20:46.47\00:20:48.24 some other place other than just hamburger? 00:20:48.25\00:20:50.18 Yes it has been found in 00:20:50.44\00:20:51.70 other things than hamburger. Like? 00:20:51.71\00:20:53.46 They found it in an apple juice, 00:20:53.80\00:20:55.31 unpasteurized apple juice. 00:20:56.25\00:20:57.92 What happened was they found that the apples 00:20:57.93\00:20:59.94 that were used in make this apple juice 00:21:00.64\00:21:02.50 that fallen in a cattle graves near by. 00:21:02.51\00:21:04.81 So if the apple juice is not pasteurized 00:21:04.82\00:21:07.74 or sterilized, pasteurization is not 00:21:08.14\00:21:10.45 sterilization but at least the pasteurization or 00:21:10.46\00:21:13.27 heating it up to certain temperature so you 00:21:13.28\00:21:15.27 are going to kill the bacteria 00:21:15.28\00:21:16.85 or most of the bacteria it's safer. 00:21:17.13\00:21:19.47 Definitely don't drink un-pasteurized 00:21:19.80\00:21:22.03 apple juice, because you are at risk depending 00:21:22.42\00:21:25.18 where the apple juice comes form this is 00:21:25.19\00:21:27.03 how happened in the apple juice. 00:21:27.04\00:21:28.52 Parents today have to be quite vigilant, don't they? 00:21:29.60\00:21:31.95 This is true. This is very true, if you are 00:21:32.58\00:21:35.20 aware of things and you know what to 00:21:35.21\00:21:36.87 look for and what to watch, you can save 00:21:36.88\00:21:38.84 your family a lot of problems. 00:21:38.85\00:21:40.40 In other thing that E.Coli 0157:H7, 00:21:40.68\00:21:43.35 I think it was a couple of years ago they recalled, 00:21:43.85\00:21:47.82 had the largest meat recall they've ever had. 00:21:47.83\00:21:49.93 25 million pounds of ground beef was recalled 00:21:50.24\00:21:55.37 because of contamination with these bacteria. 00:21:55.38\00:21:57.87 Yeah I remember that. That's one of the reasons 00:21:57.88\00:21:59.82 I think there and the government now talking 00:21:59.83\00:22:01.72 about the radiation of all meat 00:22:01.73\00:22:04.31 to trying to avoid that problem and what not. 00:22:04.32\00:22:07.91 Do you that it will work, this radiation idea. 00:22:07.92\00:22:11.72 Well if they kills the bacteria which I think it 00:22:11.99\00:22:14.48 probably well that will certainly make it safer 00:22:14.49\00:22:16.58 so that you shouldn't have this problem 00:22:16.59\00:22:18.45 but there again wide exposure self to the risk. 00:22:19.00\00:22:22.06 You know say well if I cook the meat well done 00:22:22.46\00:22:24.80 I don't have the problem but as we talked about 00:22:25.28\00:22:27.47 in our previous program we find that when you 00:22:28.14\00:22:30.62 cook the meat well done you also produce some 00:22:30.63\00:22:33.14 carcinogens which again you better off to avoid 00:22:33.15\00:22:36.11 so I still think the best way is to not use the meat. 00:22:36.12\00:22:38.87 Let me ask another question as far as we 00:22:39.19\00:22:41.05 talking about of beef and some other things 00:22:41.45\00:22:44.67 but beef primarily we've talked about. 00:22:44.68\00:22:46.26 Well what about the other substances 00:22:46.63\00:22:48.64 created by cows for ingest for instance milk? 00:22:48.65\00:22:51.98 Do you have concerns with that, these are 00:22:52.31\00:22:54.96 not heated up then I know how to any real 00:22:54.97\00:22:57.37 high temperature before we ingest them, 00:22:57.38\00:22:59.37 can we be getting mad cow disease 00:22:59.69\00:23:01.89 or other things from milk? Well there is no known 00:23:01.90\00:23:04.94 proof at the present time that mad cow disease 00:23:05.18\00:23:08.08 can be transmitted through milk. 00:23:08.09\00:23:09.80 But that something that we don't know and 00:23:10.47\00:23:13.36 we just have to wait to see what the future 00:23:13.37\00:23:14.87 shows but we do know that the significant 00:23:14.88\00:23:17.94 number of cattle in the US are infected with 00:23:17.95\00:23:21.12 something called Bovine leukemia virus. 00:23:21.13\00:23:23.35 And that, when this raw milk is fed to other 00:23:24.28\00:23:27.51 animals like chimpanzees it produces tumors. 00:23:27.52\00:23:30.76 Now it's true that if you sterilize your 00:23:31.27\00:23:34.60 milk heating at ultra high temperature that 00:23:34.61\00:23:38.10 you destroy any virus which can causes. 00:23:38.11\00:23:40.62 But pasteurization process was not heat milk 00:23:41.01\00:23:44.66 kind of sterilizing, so some viruses 00:23:44.67\00:23:47.38 may get through. If you want to drink milk 00:23:47.39\00:23:50.49 I would say the safest milk for you use would be 00:23:50.50\00:23:53.86 that which is sterilize at ultra high temperature, 00:23:53.87\00:23:56.76 these of the kinds you find the cartons in 00:23:56.77\00:23:58.49 the stores that do not have to be 00:23:58.50\00:24:00.81 refrigerate until after they are open. 00:24:00.82\00:24:04.01 But I really think the safest and the 00:24:04.46\00:24:06.21 best way is not use dairy products. 00:24:06.22\00:24:08.32 Is that an increasing position of 00:24:08.90\00:24:10.93 the medical community? Ah, it's, 00:24:10.94\00:24:13.18 more and more people are becoming aware of this, 00:24:13.54\00:24:16.56 and those who are becoming of aware of this 00:24:16.57\00:24:18.11 are cautioning their people, 00:24:18.47\00:24:20.82 you they are patients so they referred to that. 00:24:21.10\00:24:23.58 You really don't need milk once you 00:24:23.90\00:24:25.90 beyond the age of winning. 00:24:25.91\00:24:27.85 There is no necessity for milk as a food, 00:24:27.86\00:24:31.00 we can get all the food elements we need that 00:24:31.01\00:24:32.78 of calcium which is one of the primary 00:24:32.79\00:24:36.09 reason milk has promoted for adults, 00:24:36.10\00:24:37.94 in your plant foods. 00:24:38.33\00:24:40.40 So we don't need that milk mustache. No, 00:24:40.41\00:24:43.00 we do not need the milk mustache 00:24:43.61\00:24:45.81 that is absolutely true. I wanna talk little bit 00:24:45.82\00:24:48.63 about chicken with you, you have some 00:24:48.64\00:24:50.68 interesting things about that and I think 00:24:50.69\00:24:52.37 our viewers would be interested in that. 00:24:52.38\00:24:54.11 But before we go, are there any other problems 00:24:54.42\00:24:56.33 you wanna mention about meat generally? 00:24:56.34\00:24:59.26 No I think probably, at the present time we've 00:24:59.94\00:25:02.58 covered the main things with meat. 00:25:02.59\00:25:03.84 You need to be careful when you are cooking 00:25:04.31\00:25:05.77 because itself produces carcinogens. 00:25:05.78\00:25:08.00 You need to be aware of the pesticide 00:25:08.31\00:25:09.92 residues and other things found in meat 00:25:09.93\00:25:11.51 and increase risk for diabetes, cancer, 00:25:11.52\00:25:13.58 high blood pressure and heart disease. 00:25:13.91\00:25:16.09 But talking about chickens consumers reports 00:25:16.66\00:25:19.87 had a very interesting study which was reported 00:25:20.19\00:25:22.38 last year in which they sampled almost a 1000 00:25:22.39\00:25:25.40 chickens from various markets through out 00:25:25.41\00:25:28.79 the US and they found there is significantly 00:25:28.80\00:25:30.91 high percentage that were contaminated 00:25:30.92\00:25:32.66 with both salmonella and campylobacter. 00:25:32.67\00:25:35.02 In fact I think the figure it was 71 percent 00:25:35.35\00:25:38.60 were contaminated with one or the other which 00:25:38.61\00:25:42.18 means on a 29 percent did not have either 00:25:42.19\00:25:45.28 and the other thing was that almost all the 00:25:45.89\00:25:48.81 chickens were contaminated with E.Coli 00:25:48.82\00:25:50.97 which is a sign of fecal contamination. 00:25:50.98\00:25:53.40 So the processing of chickens is not a very 00:25:53.74\00:25:56.55 sanitary process and you need to be aware 00:25:56.56\00:25:58.82 of this when you eat chicken, you need to 00:25:58.83\00:26:00.64 handle the meat if it is contaminated. 00:26:00.65\00:26:02.79 I think many of us have heard about salmonella 00:26:03.64\00:26:05.80 and that scare few years ago that was really 00:26:06.12\00:26:08.85 public what is this campylobacter, 00:26:08.86\00:26:11.89 what does it do? 00:26:11.90\00:26:12.87 Campylobacter is another disease that 00:26:12.92\00:26:15.12 causes food poison, it's commonly found 00:26:15.13\00:26:16.95 in chicken it causes diarrhea, it causes 00:26:16.96\00:26:19.57 sever illness and it causes any words 00:26:20.04\00:26:22.38 from a 110 to up to possibly a 1000 00:26:22.39\00:26:25.02 deaths per year in the United States. 00:26:25.03\00:26:26.97 In fact they estimate that deaths from food born 00:26:27.34\00:26:30.52 diseases in the United Sates amounts to almost 00:26:30.53\00:26:32.92 around 27 people a day which comes to 00:26:33.42\00:26:36.97 to around 9000 people each year. Wow. 00:26:36.98\00:26:39.82 And these can be avoided by avoiding animal foods. 00:26:40.36\00:26:43.80 What about eggs. Eggs again I think if you 00:26:44.47\00:26:48.36 want to use eggs you need to be well cooked 00:26:48.37\00:26:50.06 but even eggs that are not cracked can be 00:26:50.07\00:26:54.45 contaminate with salmonella and again eggs 00:26:54.46\00:26:57.16 because of the hazard with the cholesterol and 00:26:57.17\00:27:00.10 the yolk I think you better off without them. 00:27:00.11\00:27:02.88 We've been talking with Dr. Clarence Ing 00:27:03.17\00:27:05.29 from Weimar institute in California. 00:27:05.30\00:27:07.48 He is reviewed the literature on reasons 00:27:08.07\00:27:11.42 why we should really think twice about eating 00:27:11.43\00:27:13.76 any animal products let me read in closing 00:27:13.77\00:27:16.51 what Dr. Richard Lacey a mad cow researcher 00:27:16.52\00:27:20.46 from United Kingdom says there is now overwhelming 00:27:20.95\00:27:23.71 scientific evidence and medical cause for avoiding 00:27:23.72\00:27:26.82 the consumption of meat despite the 00:27:26.83\00:27:28.75 government's attempts to persuade this otherwise. 00:27:28.76\00:27:31.12 We hope this has been useful to you 00:27:31.57\00:27:33.30 and we hope that you have Health for a Lifetime. 00:27:33.58\00:27:36.11
