Today we're gonna be
looking at how God's plans

for our lives
are the best plans.

You know, when I was
younger, I wasn't sure

what I wanted
to do with my life.
00:00:46.58\00:00:47.88
I was kind of ambitious,
but I knew there were two things
00:00:47.89\00:00:50.51
that I really didn't want to do.
00:00:50.52\00:00:52.26
One of them was, I
never wanted to go to Africa
00:00:52.27\00:00:54.89
and the second one was I never
wanted to become a preacher.
00:00:54.90\00:00:58.29
And God in His wisdom
directed the path of my life,
00:00:58.30\00:01:01.96
so I ended up spending 15
years of my life in Africa.

And while I was
there, I was working
00:01:04.29\00:01:07.53
as a teacher and a preacher.
00:01:07.54\00:01:09.88
And so when I look
back on it, I can say,

well, was I disappointed?

No of course I
wasn't, because God's plans

for my life were the best plans.

Sometimes when
we are disappointed,

we look back on the,
the hopes and the dreams

and the prayers that we had.

And we think, wow
that was disappointing

but really some of
those disappointment

turn out to be some of
our greatest blessings,

because God's plans for
our lives are the best plans.

at this topic, I'm gonna ask,

Sometimes, life just does
not turnout the way we plan.

I remember once about
five or six years ago.

My school was planning to go
skiing and I absolutely loved

going skiing with my friends.
00:02:20.67\00:02:22.62
I was so excited and
eagerly waiting for the day.

But then just a few days
before the trip, I got sick.
00:02:25.89\00:02:30.46
I was almost better by the
time we were supposed to go.
00:02:30.47\00:02:33.21
But my parents told me,
00:02:33.22\00:02:34.49
I should stay
home and rest instead.

I was so utterly disappointed.

All my friends were
going to be out there

in the snow without me.

And I have been planning
on being there with them.

But there are things in life
that are far more importance

than a mere skiing trip.

Imagine as soon to be bride
who was eagerly looking forward

to marrying a man she
loves with her whole heart.

All the plans are made

and the
preparation is nearly complete.

But then suddenly
her fiancé gets killed

in the tragic car accident.

The mounting
excitement plummets as her hopes

and dreams are
dashed to the ground.

Perhaps you have even
made plans about relationships

where to go to
school, what career to pursue,

what projects to accomplish.

Perhaps you've even made plans
to do great things for God.

But our plans are
not always God's plans.

When our plans
fail we need to remember

that God's plans are best,

because He knows
what is best for us.

Whether we're at peace

or when sorrow
seem to wash over us,

whatever we're like, we can
in faith look to God and say,

A few months
ago as I was talking

to one of my friend in the dorm.

He started telling me
about his doubt in prayer.

And he said that it
was seemingly ignorant
00:08:46.47\00:08:48.09
for people to believe in
prayer, because you know,
00:08:48.10\00:08:52.01
the answers always
seem to hinge on chance.
00:08:52.02\00:08:55.27
He said that to pray
for circumstance or crest
00:08:55.28\00:08:57.50
would either
come about naturally
00:08:57.51\00:08:59.73
or never even happen at all.

And he said
that, like for instance

if someone pray for snow,
and there is snow week later,
00:09:04.07\00:09:07.67
he would praise
God that you know,

his prayer was answered.

But the snow would've come

whether or not
he had pray for it.

And you know, I was
kind of confused about this.

Well, I really
didn't know what to say,

because I'd
wondered about it too.

And it wasn't till week later

that I found this quote
in Help in Daily Living.

And it says, "In the
future life the mysteries

annoyed and disappointed us

will be made plain.

We shall see that our
seemingly unanswered prayers

and disappointed
hopes have been among

And then it was then that
I realized how close minded
00:09:43.47\00:09:45.54
we were being, because
we didn't have the faith
00:09:45.55\00:09:48.41
to grasp something
that didn't have immediate
00:09:48.42\00:09:50.84
or obvious result, you
know, I can't see the future.

But I know that one day
I'll be able to see how God

used my seemingly
unanswered prayers

to bring about
His role in my life.

immediate answers to prayers

were not exactly the
way you expected to be.

I have, when I was going to
ninth grade, my family started

looking around for a
place for me to, go to academy
00:10:16.68\00:10:20.01
because I've been
home school all my life.
00:10:20.02\00:10:21.28
And so we were looking
around and we finally found
00:10:21.29\00:10:24.28
one on the East
Coast that look like
00:10:24.29\00:10:25.65
it was going to be a good fit.

And me and my older brother
were applied and were excepted

and so we were
planning to go there.

The only problem was, my
family was a living in Montana

and this is in East Coast
and they didn't want to send us
00:10:34.91\00:10:37.57
all the way across the
country to go to school.

And so we prayed and asked
God, we put house in the market
00:10:40.07\00:10:43.89
and we said, it
sells by a certain date,
00:10:43.90\00:10:45.76
then we know that
were suppose to go.
00:10:45.77\00:10:47.73
And I was so excited
because I want to go to school
00:10:47.74\00:10:49.83
and make friends and
I always just show sure
00:10:49.84\00:10:51.99
that it was God's plan.

And so when I prayed and
asking for the house to sell,

it wasn't I didn't have--there
was no question in my mind

that I would, but the date
came and went and our house

didn't sell and
I was devastating

because I just
had expected that,

this was God's will for me.

And I didn't figure
out the answer right away

and that year I
ended up staying home and--

home schooling, so I'm going
to another school a little bit.

But it just wasn't really
I--it just wasn't what I had

wanted for myself
and what I thought
00:11:21.09\00:11:22.63
that God had wanted for me.
00:11:22.64\00:11:24.14
And then it end up
that my tenth grade year,

I was able to come
to Fountainview Academy.

And looking back of
all the things I've been

able to learn here
and all the experiences

that I had and how God
00:11:32.60\00:11:33.66
was really able to
reach me when I was here.

I just know that I had
been praying for something

that wasn't God's will
for me even know I thought

it was and God was able
to use those circumstances

and turn them
into something better

that I didn't even know existed

and it remind me of
the quote that says,

"Our plan often fail, that
God's plans for us may succeed."

remind me of an experience

that happened to
me a few years ago.

I was surrounded by paramedics

and was slowly
lifted into a helicopter.

I've taken a
nasty crash on my bike

and now I would
spend the consequences.

Suffering from a concussion
and a slight brain hemorrhage,

I was in a lot of
pain. It was only a miracle
00:12:19.20\00:12:22.59
that I did not break any
bones, let alone survive.

I've made the mistake of
jumping my bike unprepared.

And God still pulled
through and saved my life

despite my mistake.

It is at the cross
we experience healing,

protection and
rescuing from all our falls.

We have made a lot of
mistakes, yet on the cross

God pulled through and saved us.

Yeah, well, when I was at
home this past summer for break.

I started thinking about what
I wanted to do after graduation

the rest of my life.

And I was thinking about
it and talking with my parents

and my best friend about it.

And my best friend and I
came up with this whole plan

of we're gonna live in town
together in rented apartment

and we go to
community college together.

And then I can
go home on weekends

and spend time with my folks,

because I live
little ways out of town.

And talk to my parents
about it and they were cool

with it and everything
seem to be falling in its place.

And so I've thought
great and then I came back

my senior year, thinking

I had basically
everything all figured it out.

I did, all except I
hadn't take a major yet,

and I didn't really know where,

like what I want
to take in college.

So I started praying about that.

So like God, help me
figure that out before grad.

And within time it
took to be praying for that,

God started
hinting out me through

just different
circumstances and things

that maybe He had
little bit of a different plan

than what I had
made with my friend.

And so I started praying okay,

then what do you want me to do,

if you don't want me to go home.

And little by little
just door started opening up

and things were lining up and
God showed me a different way

He wanted me to
go, that was an option

that I didn't even consider
before like where I'd go,

where I should go for college.

And it was kind of
exciting on one hand

because I was seeing all
these awesome, straight forward

answer to prayers and
things just falling in place.

But I was also really kind
of confused and just annoyed

with it sort of
because I had made so many
00:18:09.18\00:18:11.72
awesome plans with
my friends and family.

And I've been in
Fountainview for four years

and so I don't see
my family very often.

And I was really looking forward
to spending time with them.

And so I was kind of mad
at God for taking that way

because I'd be
going away to college now

and so I was
frustrated with that.

And anyways one night,
when I was thinking about it,

one of the other girls
gave worship in the dorm

and she was reading

and something here she
read caught my attention.

And so is that, "Our plans
are not always God's plans.

He may see that
it is best for us

and for His cause to
refuse our very best intentions.

But if He sees it best
not to grant their desires

He will counterbalance the
refusal by giving them tokens

of His love and entrusting
to them another service."

And that really caught my
attention 'cause I was thinking

God, you know, you've
definitely denied some plans

and taking some
things away from me

that I really care about,
but I don't see anything better

like I don't see
any tokens of love

that are counterbalancing
when He is taking away for me.

I'm just kind of
thinking you know,

God what's up with that? Yeah.

And, anyways later on
evening I forgot about it,

until during study hall, I
mean, I was--out in the lobby

doing my homework and one
of the deans came up to me

staring and she asked me,

"Rachel, do you
have any use for a doll."

And I thought that was
really random, I'm like doll,

what are you taking about?

You're teenager,
would you like a doll.

Well, when I was very
little, I always wanted

to have a personal doll.

And I'd never really
told anybody about it.

I mean, just I
just always wanted one,

I never asked for one yes,

I was too
embarrassed or something.

But anyway so when she told
about it I was really excited

and I guess one of the staff
ladies were getting rid of it.

And so she asked me if
I wanted it, I said yeah,

I want it and I was so excited.

I took it out of this
box and took it downstairs

to my room and just put
it up on the window cell.

And I was just so
excited and I just sat down

on the bed looking at it
and then my mind went back

to what I was
thinking during worship.

And I don't know, I realize
like getting a doll for me

was kind of like
getting a promise from God

sort of that it is
shown me that God knows

myself better than I do.

And like I'd never told
anybody that I wanted the doll.

But if He can see
like something that small

that would make me happy

and go out of his
way to make it happen.

Like, he cares about
such little things like

how much more is He gonna
have like fill a bigger things

That's really a cool
story how God really cares

details in our lives.

Well, that actually
happened to me when I was 12.

I had a really bad
pain in my right leg

and we went into the
doctor to find out what it was.

And if the pain was so
bad, that I couldn't even walk,

so he knew it
had to be something

different than growing pain.

And the doctor did
several x-rays and he said well,

there is a large blacked
hole in the middle of your bone.

And we don't know what
it is, but we're going to do

an MRI next week
and well, do some test

and figure out what it is.

And so we decided to
leave it in God's hands

and see if
maybe He would heal me

from this and the doctors would

see that its God's
hand that healed me.

And we had an anointing
service with the elders

pain was completely gone,

had the MRI we found

that the spot

I didn't understand

here I had faith in
God that He would heal me

and I didn't understand
why, He wouldn't do that,

and yet it was still there.

And after that I was
sent to a cancer ward,

because the doctors
thought that I must have cancer,

send to a large hospital
with all cancer patients.

And they did surgery on
me and took out the spot

coral to strengthen the bone,

so it wouldn't break.

And the doctor said

there is no
cancer and it's benign

and you can go home and
you will be fine after this,

checking to make sure

that there is no more
cancer that comes back.
