language is very biblical,

explain some of the terms

we're talking about

start with Hebrews 9.

had ordinances of divine service

and the earthly sanctuary."

Okay, so this is a
brief explanation here,

relation to the covenants.

We heard old
covenant and new covenant.

There are two
aspects of these covenants,

two pictures.

In other words when you hear,
when you're reading the Bible

and the author is describing
the old and new covenant.
00:04:34.04\00:04:37.31
Here, he can be coming
from two, one of two angles.
00:04:37.34\00:04:41.24
Number one, there is
a historical perspective
00:04:41.28\00:04:43.18
of old and new
covenants which is a history.
00:04:43.21\00:04:46.58
Many of us understand that
00:04:46.61\00:04:48.18
as Old Testament kind of stories
00:04:48.22\00:04:51.25
and things
related to old covenant,
00:04:51.29\00:04:53.09
and new covenant
being New Testament stuff.
00:04:53.12\00:04:55.56
And often what we find
is that's not the common,
00:04:55.59\00:05:01.06
most common use of old
and new covenant terms.
00:05:01.10\00:05:04.17
Although, within
the evangelical world,
00:05:04.20\00:05:07.10
often this is the primary way
00:05:07.14\00:05:09.37
that they viewed
old and new covenant.
00:05:09.40\00:05:11.24
Old covenant
being Old Testament,
00:05:11.27\00:05:12.64
new covenant
being New Testament,
00:05:12.67\00:05:14.01
but actually Paul the apostle,
00:05:14.04\00:05:15.88
especially
doesn't write in that way.
00:05:15.91\00:05:17.65
In most every
case, Paul is speaking
00:05:17.68\00:05:20.05
of the experiential
covenant of old and new.
00:05:20.08\00:05:23.99
In other words, the old covenant
00:05:24.02\00:05:25.49
was this covenant of the people
00:05:25.52\00:05:27.79
where they said,
we will follow God
00:05:27.82\00:05:29.52
and they tried
with their own power,
00:05:29.56\00:05:30.93
with their own strength
00:05:30.96\00:05:32.29
to do what they
could do to please God,
00:05:32.33\00:05:33.66
to appease God even,
and it just didn't work.
00:05:33.70\00:05:37.43
And then the new
covenant experience
00:05:37.47\00:05:39.33
is the one that
we have with Christ
00:05:39.37\00:05:41.37
through His
spirit indwelling in us,
00:05:41.40\00:05:42.90
His law written in us the
way that we naturally respond
00:05:42.94\00:05:47.18
as we walk in the spirit
day to day experiencing Christ
00:05:47.21\00:05:49.78
and the benefits of
His sacrificial death
00:05:49.81\00:05:51.88
and His resurrection power.
00:05:51.91\00:05:53.92
That's the way that Paul often
00:05:53.95\00:05:56.05
and the other apostles
right in the New Testament.
00:05:56.08\00:05:59.92
But there is a context here
00:05:59.95\00:06:01.59
and in this
situation, Hebrews 9,
00:06:01.62\00:06:03.86
there is an
historical old covenant context.
00:06:03.89\00:06:07.33
And so it says in verse 2
00:06:07.36\00:06:09.30
that "The tabernacle
was prepared the first part
00:06:09.33\00:06:12.20
in which was the lamb stand,
the table and the showbread,
00:06:12.23\00:06:14.44
which is called the sanctuary
and behind the second veil
00:06:14.47\00:06:17.31
the part of the tabernacle
00:06:17.34\00:06:18.67
which is called
the holiest of all
00:06:18.71\00:06:20.04
or the most holy."
00:06:20.08\00:06:21.54
So what you have here is
this picture of the covenant
00:06:21.58\00:06:25.41
and it's a tabernacle that
most of us are used to reading
00:06:25.45\00:06:27.68
about back in the Old Testament
where, you know the Israelites
00:06:27.72\00:06:30.89
carried around
this big tabernacle
00:06:30.92\00:06:33.32
and it had an outer
courtyard with a tent around it
00:06:33.36\00:06:35.56
that was basically a fence
00:06:35.59\00:06:37.26
with a gate coming through that.
00:06:37.29\00:06:38.63
You have the bronze
altar burn offering,
00:06:38.66\00:06:41.80
you have the
laver in the courtyard,
00:06:41.83\00:06:43.16
then you move into the
actual tabernacle piece
00:06:43.20\00:06:46.20
which involved the holy
00:06:46.23\00:06:47.57
and the most holy
separated by this veil.
00:06:47.60\00:06:50.24
And so that's
what's been described here.
00:06:50.27\00:06:51.84
Now what most
people don't realize
00:06:51.87\00:06:53.81
is that this tabernacle
carried around with Israelites
00:06:53.84\00:06:57.18
was not the original, okay.
00:06:57.21\00:06:59.68
The original
tabernacle is in heaven.
00:06:59.71\00:07:03.52
Right. Now how do we know that?
00:07:03.55\00:07:06.29
Well, two reasons.
00:07:06.32\00:07:07.66
Number one, when Moses
met with God on the mountain,
00:07:07.69\00:07:11.03
God said, I want you to make
me a place to dwell with you
00:07:11.06\00:07:14.50
according to the pattern.
00:07:14.53\00:07:16.90
So in other words,
what Moses was making
00:07:16.93\00:07:19.63
with the children
of Israel put together
00:07:19.67\00:07:21.00
was a copy of
the true tabernacle
00:07:21.04\00:07:23.91
which is in heaven.
00:07:23.94\00:07:25.84
And so the writer of Hebrews
also brings this point out
00:07:25.87\00:07:30.85
and it says there in--
00:07:30.88\00:07:34.72
Let's see Chapter
9:11 where it says,
00:07:34.75\00:07:39.15
"Christ came as high priest
of the good things to come
00:07:39.19\00:07:42.62
with a greater and
more perfect tabernacle,
00:07:42.66\00:07:45.89
and then does it
say, not made with hands,
00:07:45.93\00:07:47.90
that is not of this creation."
00:07:47.93\00:07:50.77
So there is a tabernacle
that Christ is a high priest of
00:07:50.80\00:07:54.67
that is not the tabernacle
00:07:54.70\00:07:57.87
that was first in the wilderness
00:07:57.91\00:07:59.24
and then of course build
into a temple in Jerusalem.
00:07:59.27\00:08:02.38
This is a perfect tabernacle
not made of earthly resources.
00:08:02.41\00:08:06.72
And then of
course, it talks about,
00:08:06.75\00:08:08.12
it goes on to speak of Christ
ministering with His own blood,
00:08:08.15\00:08:10.95
not the blood
of bulls and goats,
00:08:10.99\00:08:12.32
but with His own blood He
came into the heavenly sanctuary
00:08:12.35\00:08:14.96
upon His ascension
after His resurrection,
00:08:14.99\00:08:17.29
and He's been
ministering there in our behalf.
00:08:17.33\00:08:19.73
Okay, so that's
the background context
00:08:19.76\00:08:22.40
to the heavenly sanctuary.

And this is where,
if you want to know

where Jesus is now,
read the Book of Hebrews,

that's a best

What is Jesus doing
now? Where is He now?

that He's our high priest

in the heavenly sanctuary

administering His
blood in our behalf

and preparing to come
back and take His people home.

Matter of fact, could I--

Go ahead and interject, yes.

Matter of fact in Hebrews
8, if you look at verse 5

speaking about the
sanctuary and its services.

It says in verse
5, "Who serve the copy

and shadow of
the heavenly things,

as Moses was divinely instructed

when he was about
to make the tabernacle,

for he said see
that you make all things

according to the
pattern shown you on mountain."

So, but now, he obtained
a more excellent ministry in

as much as he is also
mediator of a better covenant

which is
established on better promises.

So you find this pattern

that Moses made the
earthly tabernacle of,

after it was the pattern
shown him in the mountain

and the Lord gave him a glimpse
of these services where he is.

And when you read the
Bible, you begin to see

that as David the
psalmist points out,

and let me give
you example Psalm 47:8,
00:09:41.84\00:09:44.75
he says "God
reigns over the nations,
00:09:44.78\00:09:48.12
God sits on his holy throne."
00:09:48.15\00:09:52.35
And so when the
Bible speaks about,

you have the tabernacle
where the pattern was shown
00:09:54.59\00:09:58.33
representing
the ministry of God,
00:09:58.36\00:10:00.73
but then I don't know if
the question had the throne?

We're gonna go to Daniel 7 now.

So it's gonna talk
about the throne room

and associate that
with the sanctuary.

But I did want to establish this

because some people
when they hear these terms

and understand it.

And one of the
words you brought up here

from verse 5 there in
Hebrews 8 is the shadow.

And I know we've
had questions before

on Colossians 2
00:10:19.58\00:10:21.25
which has the
Sabbath is which is a shadow
00:10:21.28\00:10:23.79
and is talking about the
shadow of things to come.

That's all in relation
to Old Testament language

and the old tabernacle
that was in the wilderness
00:10:29.12\00:10:32.13
And the services, the
services surrounding that.

And the services
were the shadows.
00:10:34.53\00:10:36.36
These ceremonial Sabbaths
00:10:36.40\00:10:37.83
that happened
like on the first day,

the 8th day, the
11th day, the 10th day,
00:10:39.87\00:10:41.50
the 7th month, 5th
day or the 5th month,
00:10:41.54\00:10:44.27
these were shadow Sabbaths
but they had no association

with the Sabbath
established in Genesis.

That was not a
shadow, that was a memorial.

There's a difference
between a memorial and a shadow.

The memorial of creation,

the memorial of
God's creative ability,

that's what the
original Sabbath is.

And then secondly, the
Sabbath is a sanctifying sign

between those who honored
and the one who it honors.

See, like an anniversary
or birthday, you say,

well, come, my
birthday July 30th.
00:11:11.63\00:11:13.54
When all these
people show up on July 30th,

these people have come
to acknowledge my birthday
00:11:16.34\00:11:18.97
to celebrate it with me.
00:11:19.01\00:11:20.38
So when we
celebrate the Sabbath,
00:11:20.41\00:11:22.44
we're acknowledging
to whom it belongs,
00:11:22.48\00:11:24.61
it's the Sabbath of the Lord.

But it's not a shadow.
00:11:26.21\00:11:27.55
These ceremonial
services as you point out,

they were all the shadows,
00:11:29.98\00:11:31.59
because they were all
part of the tabernacle

that was a shadow and a copy.

And I think the point being them

is if you don't understand
this old covenant kind of

in a historical sense
and the tabernacle there

and what was represented,

and then what Jesus is
doing under this new covenant
00:11:45.50\00:11:48.60
experience
heavenly sanctuary language.

If you don't understand that,

you're gonna miss
words like shadow, like copy,

and you're gonna start
relating the word Sabbath

to every Sabbath

when it's specifically
talking about one thing.

So anyway, let's

this history of the world

And it takes you down,

prophetically it takes
you down to the very end

which was referred
to the time of the end.

So first beast comes up,
second beast then comes up,

third beast then comes up,
fourth beast then comes up,

so you have this
rise and fall of kingdoms,

and we know those of
course to be Babylonian,

Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome.

And then in the middle
of, after the fourth kingdom

is dreadful
terrible beast comes up,

you have this picture,

and this pattern is
repeated over and over again.

It's repeated in Daniel 2.

It's repeated
again in Daniel 7-9.

It's repeated again
even to degree in Daniel 11,

so you have this
repeated of, you know,

kingdoms rising and
falling, and all of a sudden

this picture of an
event taking place in heaven.

And that's what we're gonna
read about starting in verse,

Chapter 7 verse 9.

So after verses 1-8 of
the rise and fall of kingdoms,

these beast powers
you have these words,

thrones were put in place

of days was seated.

His garment was as white as snow

and the hair of his
head was like pure wool.

His throne,

it was a fiery flame
its wheels are burning fire

a fiery stream issued
him and came forth from him

a thousand
thousands ministered to Him,

ten thousand times ten
thousand stood before Him.

and the books were opened."

before the throne of God

this judgment scene.

we need to be thinking
in terms of throne room

and judgment according to here,

and the fact that God
is doing something there,

that's why His throne
is in one of these places.

We haven't answered
that yet holy or most holy.

But then he says, I
watched in verse 11,

because of the
sound of the pompous words

which the horn was speaking."

This is the horn that comes
up out of the fourth beast,

and it says verse 12,
"And the rest of the beasts,
