Hello, friends, grab your bible and a friend, 00:00:01.36\00:00:03.06 and sit back as we explore God's word together 00:00:03.10\00:00:05.70 on this edition of House Calls. 00:00:05.73\00:00:08.04 Welcome to the place that 00:00:25.25\00:00:26.89 the Lord knew you would be today, 00:00:26.92\00:00:28.46 and that's right here with us on House Calls. 00:00:28.49\00:00:31.03 Thank you for tuning in. 00:00:31.06\00:00:32.73 I have to my right, my prodigy, my carbon copy, 00:00:32.76\00:00:37.63 he just looks a little different, 00:00:37.67\00:00:39.00 but we share something in common, 00:00:39.03\00:00:40.37 that's a passion for God's word, 00:00:40.40\00:00:41.87 we even have the same name. Good to have you here, John. 00:00:41.90\00:00:44.14 It's good to be here, John. 00:00:44.17\00:00:45.51 You know, today is a good day 00:00:45.54\00:00:46.88 that we are going to get into a topic that is exciting. 00:00:46.91\00:00:48.48 Yeah. 00:00:48.51\00:00:49.84 We're going to cover it on a couple of programs, 00:00:49.88\00:00:51.88 Dispensationalism. 00:00:51.91\00:00:54.28 And now sationalism is a part of it, dispense, 00:00:54.32\00:00:58.22 when you put them two together it simply means 00:00:58.25\00:01:00.76 a theory that has advanced many teachings 00:01:00.79\00:01:05.29 that are not scripturally supported. 00:01:05.33\00:01:07.83 And you'll discover also in this program 00:01:07.86\00:01:10.67 where the foundation of Dispensationalism came from. 00:01:10.70\00:01:15.00 While it has 400-year-old history behind it, 00:01:15.04\00:01:20.64 it's very, very modern... 00:01:20.68\00:01:23.01 And some of the translations of the Bibles, 00:01:23.04\00:01:25.78 not so much translations 00:01:25.81\00:01:27.15 but many of the Bibles that have study notes, 00:01:27.18\00:01:29.65 for example, you have Scofield Study Notes. 00:01:29.68\00:01:32.92 Well, Cyrus I. Scofield was a dispensationalist. 00:01:32.95\00:01:37.63 Some of the modern "prophets" or people 00:01:37.66\00:01:42.70 that have thought themselves to be 00:01:42.73\00:01:45.77 having a great angle on prophecy like Hal Lindsey, 00:01:45.80\00:01:49.80 going a littler further back, Mary Baker Eddy, 00:01:49.84\00:01:53.71 and then you have John N. Darby. 00:01:53.74\00:01:57.68 So it's really, it's quite a trek 00:01:57.71\00:01:59.81 for Dispensationalism, 00:01:59.85\00:02:01.32 but suffice to say we are going to, 00:02:01.35\00:02:04.42 what's the word I can use, we are going to unmask... 00:02:04.45\00:02:06.82 Dispel the myth. 00:02:06.86\00:02:08.19 Dispel the myths behind Dispensationalism. 00:02:08.22\00:02:11.96 We're gonna desensationalize it and then lead you right back 00:02:11.99\00:02:16.50 to what the word of God says, to what the word of God says. 00:02:16.53\00:02:21.67 Sound like you know, get that out of there. 00:02:21.70\00:02:23.07 Yeah, exactly. 00:02:23.10\00:02:24.51 And so stay tune for a program 00:02:24.54\00:02:26.41 that really is going to peak your interest 00:02:26.44\00:02:29.58 and may be hopefully share something with you 00:02:29.61\00:02:32.08 that can strengthen your dedication to God's word 00:02:32.11\00:02:35.58 because this is not a normal topic. 00:02:35.62\00:02:37.69 We're not just talking about the Sabbath 00:02:37.72\00:02:39.05 and the state of the dead, and you know, the 2,300 days, 00:02:39.09\00:02:41.82 we're talking about something that has really gripped 00:02:41.86\00:02:44.19 and led much of Christendom 00:02:44.23\00:02:46.16 into a very dark place with no scriptural support. 00:02:46.19\00:02:49.40 But before we do any of that we always have prayer, 00:02:49.43\00:02:52.43 then we're going to go to Bible questions, 00:02:52.47\00:02:54.20 and all those things that we enjoy to do. 00:02:54.24\00:02:55.80 But, John, before we go any further, 00:02:55.84\00:02:57.44 let's have our prayer. 00:02:57.47\00:02:58.81 Let's do that. 00:02:58.84\00:03:00.18 Father in heaven, we just depend upon you 00:03:00.21\00:03:02.48 so much for any program like this, 00:03:02.51\00:03:04.35 for everyday of our life, but when we open your word 00:03:04.38\00:03:07.28 unless you lead us through your spirit 00:03:07.32\00:03:09.15 we cannot find your truth. 00:03:09.18\00:03:11.42 And so we pray that your presence would be with us, 00:03:11.45\00:03:14.42 that the Spirit would lead and guide our thoughts, 00:03:14.46\00:03:16.26 and bless each heart and each mind 00:03:16.29\00:03:17.86 that is with us today on the program. 00:03:17.89\00:03:19.96 In Jesus' name, Amen. 00:03:20.00\00:03:21.56 Amen. 00:03:21.60\00:03:23.30 And as many of you know, we enjoy Bible questions. 00:03:23.33\00:03:27.54 Sometimes we get them in envelopes. 00:03:27.57\00:03:30.51 But most of the time 00:03:30.54\00:03:31.87 we get them on the internet, and today, 00:03:31.91\00:03:33.27 we're going to have a little bit of both 00:03:33.31\00:03:35.54 of the Bible questions you have. 00:03:35.58\00:03:37.35 And if you're sitting down right now and you think, "man, 00:03:37.38\00:03:40.42 a thought just came to my mind or a question," 00:03:40.45\00:03:42.52 and you have access to the internet, 00:03:42.55\00:03:44.22 you may want to send that question 00:03:44.25\00:03:45.59 to this following email address: 00:03:45.62\00:03:47.62 housecalls@3abn.org. 00:03:47.66\00:03:50.39 That's housecalls@3abn.org. 00:03:50.43\00:03:53.50 And we would enjoy downloading those. 00:03:53.53\00:03:56.97 So keep them coming 00:03:57.00\00:03:58.33 because it's very much a part of our program. 00:03:58.37\00:04:00.54 What you want to know is what we want to answer, 00:04:00.57\00:04:03.20 and if we don't answer to your liking, 00:04:03.24\00:04:05.37 send us another question so we can clarify it. 00:04:05.41\00:04:08.18 But John, we're going to give you 00:04:08.21\00:04:09.71 the first swing of the bat 00:04:09.74\00:04:11.08 or may be I should say 00:04:11.11\00:04:13.01 the first swing of the golf club 00:04:13.05\00:04:15.25 or the scriptures. 00:04:15.28\00:04:16.62 Let me put them in the proper context. 00:04:16.65\00:04:17.99 There you go. 00:04:18.02\00:04:19.35 I have a question here from Haines, 00:04:19.39\00:04:21.66 and he's writing from South Africa. 00:04:21.69\00:04:23.69 Oh, wow. 00:04:23.73\00:04:25.06 He says, "Can you please help me 00:04:25.09\00:04:26.43 with a time prophecy misunderstanding?" 00:04:26.46\00:04:29.60 He says "Nebuchadnezzar became king in 605 BC. 00:04:29.63\00:04:34.64 In the second year of his reign he had the Daniel 2 dream. 00:04:34.67\00:04:38.77 The first year are never counted, 00:04:38.81\00:04:41.98 and that's true. 00:04:42.01\00:04:43.35 He is a centenarian, isn't? 00:04:43.38\00:04:44.88 Meaning, that happened in the third year of his reign, 00:04:44.91\00:04:47.52 he only captured Daniel and his friends in 597-598 BC 00:04:47.55\00:04:52.65 when he invaded Jerusalem." 00:04:52.69\00:04:54.32 My problem is this gap between Daniel's time and 602, 00:04:54.36\00:04:59.09 when he had the dream." 00:04:59.13\00:05:00.46 In other words, Daniel wasn't there 00:05:00.50\00:05:02.03 when he had the dream in 602. 00:05:02.06\00:05:05.90 The question is a great question 00:05:05.93\00:05:07.64 and we should I think know 00:05:07.67\00:05:09.00 little bit about our history, especially this history. 00:05:09.04\00:05:11.47 The part of the question that is not accurate 00:05:11.51\00:05:13.74 is the time Daniel was taken captive. 00:05:13.78\00:05:17.55 There are three deportations 00:05:17.58\00:05:19.21 that happened from Jerusalem to Babylon. 00:05:19.25\00:05:22.22 The first one came on the heels of 00:05:22.25\00:05:24.09 the Egyptian defeat at Carchemish, 00:05:24.12\00:05:26.79 and this is when Pharaoh Necho 00:05:26.82\00:05:29.72 lost to Babylon and really never recovered. 00:05:29.76\00:05:32.53 And really, so then Egypt 00:05:32.56\00:05:34.93 which Israel often depended upon 00:05:34.96\00:05:36.77 as their ally to help them 00:05:36.80\00:05:38.23 with these other northern countries 00:05:38.27\00:05:39.93 was no longer there. 00:05:39.97\00:05:41.30 So King Josiah became the vassal king 00:05:41.34\00:05:44.04 basically of Babylon from that point on, 00:05:44.07\00:05:46.14 and that was the first deportation. 00:05:46.17\00:05:47.64 So Babylon came in to Jerusalem 00:05:47.68\00:05:50.71 and then the first deportation occurred, 00:05:50.75\00:05:53.01 which included Daniel and his three friends. 00:05:53.05\00:05:55.98 So that happened in 605 BC. 00:05:56.02\00:06:01.59 So instead of, the question says 00:06:01.62\00:06:03.59 that he was deported in 597-598, 00:06:03.63\00:06:06.66 that's actually not true. 00:06:06.70\00:06:08.30 Daniel and his three friends actually were deported 00:06:08.33\00:06:11.43 from Jerusalem to Babylon in 605, 00:06:11.47\00:06:14.34 the same year that Nebuchadnezzar 00:06:14.37\00:06:16.24 took over as king. 00:06:16.27\00:06:17.77 Now, the other reason that date is 00:06:17.81\00:06:19.27 an important date for us, 00:06:19.31\00:06:21.44 as we look at prophecies 00:06:21.48\00:06:22.81 because 605 represents 00:06:22.84\00:06:25.78 the first year of the 70 years of captivity. 00:06:25.81\00:06:29.05 So, 605 is the beginning count, 00:06:29.08\00:06:32.32 the marker there for 00:06:32.35\00:06:33.86 70 years of captivity in Babylon, 00:06:33.89\00:06:36.93 marking the first year and the first deportation 00:06:36.96\00:06:40.00 of that time period. 00:06:40.03\00:06:41.36 The second deportation occurred in 597-598 00:06:41.40\00:06:44.30 which he mentions here, 00:06:44.33\00:06:48.40 but that is another group of Israelites from Jerusalem 00:06:48.44\00:06:53.04 or Jews from Jerusalem coming at that point 00:06:53.07\00:06:55.18 and then the third deportation is 586. 00:06:55.21\00:06:58.31 And that is when the whole city was just destroyed, 00:06:58.35\00:07:03.15 because even as a vassal, 00:07:03.18\00:07:04.55 the king would rebel constantly against 00:07:04.59\00:07:07.42 the kings of Babylon and Nebuchadnezzar, 00:07:07.46\00:07:11.06 who was ruling still then, destroyed it. 00:07:11.09\00:07:13.09 Okay. 00:07:13.13\00:07:14.80 You know, sometimes those viewers 00:07:14.83\00:07:17.37 that are listening to the program are not sometimes, 00:07:17.40\00:07:19.40 but sometimes the persons listening to the answers 00:07:19.43\00:07:21.40 and they will say, 00:07:21.44\00:07:23.67 "Dates, numbers, what does it really matter?" 00:07:23.71\00:07:26.98 And you know, the reason why the Lord 00:07:27.01\00:07:28.81 has given us these prophecies 00:07:28.84\00:07:31.11 is one of the reasons, John, and I have spoken to, 00:07:31.15\00:07:34.72 I remember speaking to a couple 00:07:34.75\00:07:37.45 that were, as they were scientists 00:07:37.49\00:07:41.12 when I was in the city of St. Louis. 00:07:41.16\00:07:44.39 And we went to visit them, they were avout atheist, 00:07:44.43\00:07:48.10 they declared they have no belief in the Bible. 00:07:48.13\00:07:50.67 But when I got to prophecy and I began to walk through 00:07:50.70\00:07:53.40 the time tables of prophecy as it was foretold 00:07:53.44\00:07:57.11 and as it was fulfilled, 00:07:57.14\00:07:58.87 they said... 00:07:58.91\00:08:01.24 "We never heard that." 00:08:01.28\00:08:03.35 And that, they said, 00:08:03.38\00:08:04.71 "That's kind of like science to us 00:08:04.75\00:08:06.61 because it's verifying something that 00:08:06.65\00:08:08.88 to many people, it's just a theory." 00:08:08.92\00:08:11.22 So, when you hear dates talked about 00:08:11.25\00:08:13.86 and when we talk about time prophecies... 00:08:13.89\00:08:17.99 you'll see that the verification of that 00:08:18.03\00:08:19.56 or the validity of those time prophecies 00:08:19.59\00:08:21.60 is to simply say, as Isaiah 46:9-10 says, 00:08:21.63\00:08:26.74 "Remember the former things of old, 00:08:26.77\00:08:28.10 for I am God, and there is no other, 00:08:28.14\00:08:29.97 declaring the end from the beginning, 00:08:30.01\00:08:32.57 and from ancient times things that are not yet done." 00:08:32.61\00:08:36.24 So now, if an atheist listens to a time prophecy 00:08:36.28\00:08:41.08 and the things that were foretold 00:08:41.12\00:08:42.45 are happening exactly as they were foretold, 00:08:42.48\00:08:45.02 they got to say, "Wait a minute, 00:08:45.05\00:08:46.39 who could have done that? 00:08:46.42\00:08:47.76 But... 00:08:47.79\00:08:49.19 So is there really a God?" 00:08:49.22\00:08:51.69 And that is so beautiful 00:08:51.73\00:08:53.09 when it comes to time prophecies. 00:08:53.13\00:08:54.63 So it may just sound like 00:08:54.66\00:08:56.00 dates, and numbers, and kingdoms, and kings, 00:08:56.03\00:08:58.53 but in fact, the whole purpose of it 00:08:58.57\00:09:00.87 is as Jesus said to his disciples, 00:09:00.90\00:09:03.24 "I tell you these things beforehand 00:09:03.27\00:09:06.14 that one day do come to pass you will believe." 00:09:06.17\00:09:09.04 And it affirms, it confirms our faith. 00:09:09.08\00:09:10.85 Right. 00:09:10.88\00:09:12.21 If the word becomes living and powerful 00:09:12.25\00:09:15.42 because no man can predict the future. 00:09:15.45\00:09:18.05 No man. 00:09:18.09\00:09:19.42 And as peter says, 00:09:19.45\00:09:21.09 "Prophecy never came by the will of man, 00:09:21.12\00:09:23.99 but holy men of god spake as they were moved 00:09:24.03\00:09:26.70 by the Holy Spirit." 00:09:26.73\00:09:28.06 So you have God inspiring the prophets, 00:09:28.10\00:09:30.67 Holy Spirit becoming the active penman through them 00:09:30.70\00:09:35.44 and so you say, 00:09:35.47\00:09:36.81 "Okay, well, God, the Holy Spirit, 00:09:36.84\00:09:38.67 well, can I really be an atheist. 00:09:38.71\00:09:40.28 When I'm looking at something 00:09:40.31\00:09:41.64 that in some sense is like science, 00:09:41.68\00:09:44.35 it verifies that there has to be someone outside of us 00:09:44.38\00:09:47.98 that could project something 00:09:48.02\00:09:49.58 from 1,600 years ago, 3,000 years ago 00:09:49.62\00:09:52.72 and it happens in our modern day? 00:09:52.75\00:09:54.32 Is it possible?" 00:09:54.36\00:09:55.92 Yes, it is possible. 00:09:55.96\00:09:57.29 That is why prophecy 00:09:57.33\00:09:58.66 that John just talked about has such validity 00:09:58.69\00:10:00.63 and such necessity behind it in God's words. 00:10:00.66\00:10:03.57 And the other thing 00:10:03.60\00:10:04.93 I'll just mention really quick here in too is that, 00:10:04.97\00:10:06.53 you know, for the atheist, 00:10:06.57\00:10:07.90 for those that are really looking 00:10:07.94\00:10:09.27 at the word of God critically, you know, 00:10:09.30\00:10:12.81 you can be convicted that there is truth here. 00:10:12.84\00:10:15.01 We see these dates and these prophecies 00:10:15.04\00:10:16.75 and they're amazing, 00:10:16.78\00:10:18.21 but then what the devil has done is 00:10:18.25\00:10:19.78 he has brought higher criticism into the forefront today. 00:10:19.81\00:10:24.15 And so many people who look at scripture 00:10:24.19\00:10:26.65 take what's called a higher critical approach. 00:10:26.69\00:10:28.49 They look at it critically to break down, 00:10:28.52\00:10:30.49 it's supernatural... 00:10:30.53\00:10:34.20 ability 00:10:34.23\00:10:35.56 or it's supernatural infusion of God 00:10:35.60\00:10:37.67 through prophecy and through other things 00:10:37.70\00:10:39.33 through testimonies and things. 00:10:39.37\00:10:40.70 So what you will have here, 00:10:40.74\00:10:42.50 your common response would be to the atheist 00:10:42.54\00:10:44.34 to that meets with you and says, 00:10:44.37\00:10:45.71 "Wow, I've never heard that before." 00:10:45.74\00:10:47.41 The higher critical thinking person 00:10:47.44\00:10:48.84 would come along and say, "Well, you know what, 00:10:48.88\00:10:50.41 actually those prophecies were written afterwards, 00:10:50.45\00:10:52.01 after the event happened." 00:10:52.05\00:10:53.38 It couldn't happen. 00:10:53.42\00:10:54.75 And it's absolutely a ridiculous thought 00:10:54.78\00:10:56.38 because most evidence points very clearly to the fact 00:10:56.42\00:10:59.12 that Daniel wrote this book, not anyone else. 00:10:59.15\00:11:02.99 Daniel wrote it. 00:11:03.02\00:11:04.36 If he wrote it, 00:11:04.39\00:11:05.73 it preceded very clearly the events 00:11:05.76\00:11:07.10 that are actually occurring. 00:11:07.13\00:11:08.46 You know, I am glad you brought that up 00:11:08.50\00:11:09.83 because some theologians argue that 00:11:09.86\00:11:11.20 Daniel wrote this after it happened. 00:11:11.23\00:11:12.73 But the time frames would have almost made it appears, though, 00:11:12.77\00:11:15.40 Daniel had to live for hundreds of years. 00:11:15.44\00:11:18.34 Or in some case almost a 1000 years 00:11:18.37\00:11:21.38 in order for these things that were foretold by Daniel 00:11:21.41\00:11:23.81 to be written after they occurred 00:11:23.85\00:11:25.48 because Daniel projected things 00:11:25.51\00:11:27.35 that happened before him and long after him. 00:11:27.38\00:11:30.99 That's why we honestly say the partner of higher criticism 00:11:31.02\00:11:35.32 is Dispensationalism. 00:11:35.36\00:11:37.86 It's this shifting to the future, 00:11:37.89\00:11:40.40 those events that are foretold in Daniels. 00:11:40.43\00:11:42.60 So what can't be covered by Daniels existence, 00:11:42.63\00:11:45.77 what he wrote about is moved to the future 00:11:45.80\00:11:48.60 because one thing the devil does, 00:11:48.64\00:11:50.54 he wants to happen, 00:11:50.57\00:11:51.91 he does not want us to focus and say, 00:11:51.94\00:11:53.27 God's word is absolutely sure and trustworthy. 00:11:53.31\00:11:56.44 He wants to take our eyes off of that. 00:11:56.48\00:11:57.91 And anyway, you can just see it how he's working very clearly. 00:11:57.95\00:12:02.15 I can see that just very, very clear. 00:12:02.18\00:12:04.75 We have a question from, 00:12:04.79\00:12:07.69 well, does not give a first name. 00:12:07.72\00:12:10.03 Sharon, okay, Sharon, and does not say from where 00:12:10.06\00:12:14.33 but says, Sent from my iPad. 00:12:14.36\00:12:17.47 "Matthew 5:20 states that, 'Except your righteousness 00:12:17.50\00:12:23.14 exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, 00:12:23.17\00:12:27.14 you shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.' " 00:12:27.18\00:12:31.38 She said, "This is really confusing to me 00:12:31.41\00:12:32.91 because the scribes and Pharisees 00:12:32.95\00:12:34.48 were the people who weren't the most loving and kind. 00:12:34.52\00:12:38.72 What does this mean in practical terms?" 00:12:38.75\00:12:41.32 Well, you kind of answer the question with a question, 00:12:41.36\00:12:44.79 and one of the things that Jesus is pointing out is truly, 00:12:44.83\00:12:47.63 they were not loving and they were not kind, 00:12:47.66\00:12:50.63 they were just law people. 00:12:50.67\00:12:53.84 The law, let me broaden the phrase here 00:12:53.87\00:12:57.87 not just the commandments, 00:12:57.91\00:12:59.54 but the ceremonial laws, 00:12:59.57\00:13:01.74 the laws that were contained in ordinances, 00:13:01.78\00:13:05.21 the Pharisees were sticklers. 00:13:05.25\00:13:07.48 You know, sometimes you can call them 00:13:07.52\00:13:08.95 the doctors of their day, of the theological world then, 00:13:08.98\00:13:14.82 the lawyers of the theological world then. 00:13:14.86\00:13:17.49 And they were very exacting in the way they kept the law, 00:13:17.53\00:13:21.43 which made them so rigid. 00:13:21.46\00:13:24.23 So one of the reasons why the women caught on adultery, 00:13:24.27\00:13:28.47 where you cannot commit adultery by yourself, 00:13:28.50\00:13:31.24 but one of the reasons why she was brought to Jesus 00:13:31.27\00:13:33.84 and Pharisees wanted him to make a decision about 00:13:33.88\00:13:36.14 whether or not she should be stoned 00:13:36.18\00:13:39.01 is they didn't think that adultery was adultery 00:13:39.05\00:13:41.38 until the very act was carried out. 00:13:41.42\00:13:44.25 They didn't think of the way that Jesus expanded that 00:13:44.29\00:13:47.26 to say, well, if you look at a woman to lust after her, 00:13:47.29\00:13:49.96 you have committed adultery already. 00:13:49.99\00:13:52.83 They thought that murder was only murder 00:13:52.86\00:13:54.46 when the actual act took place, when somebody's life was taken. 00:13:54.50\00:13:59.63 But Jesus said, if you hate your brother, 00:13:59.67\00:14:02.00 you've already killed him. 00:14:02.04\00:14:03.51 And so what Jesus was saying 00:14:03.54\00:14:05.31 about the Pharisees and scribes, he says, 00:14:05.34\00:14:08.11 "If we're just law keepers 00:14:08.14\00:14:10.08 based on the literal application 00:14:10.11\00:14:12.58 and fulfilment in carrying out of that law 00:14:12.61\00:14:15.42 then we are no different than they are." 00:14:15.45\00:14:17.45 And so I'm going to read that text 00:14:17.49\00:14:19.35 and I'll share how Paul the Apostle 00:14:19.39\00:14:21.16 also had to deal with this in his day. 00:14:21.19\00:14:24.13 So again, Matthew 5:17 to give you the context. 00:14:24.16\00:14:27.90 Jesus says, "Do not think that 00:14:27.93\00:14:29.26 I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. 00:14:29.30\00:14:32.00 I did not come to destroy but to fulfil. 00:14:32.03\00:14:35.07 For assuredly, I say to you, 00:14:35.10\00:14:37.81 till heaven and earth pass away, 00:14:37.84\00:14:40.34 one jot or one title will by no means pass 00:14:40.38\00:14:43.98 from the law till all is fulfilled." 00:14:44.01\00:14:46.78 And by the way, 00:14:46.82\00:14:48.15 he is saying this to the Pharisees. 00:14:48.18\00:14:50.72 They're kind of thinking "Okay, we know that." 00:14:50.75\00:14:53.89 And he says in verse 19, "Whoever therefore breaks 00:14:53.92\00:14:57.06 one of the least of these commandments 00:14:57.09\00:14:59.13 and teaches men so 00:14:59.16\00:15:00.66 shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven, 00:15:00.70\00:15:03.26 but whoever does and teaches them, 00:15:03.30\00:15:05.27 he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." 00:15:05.30\00:15:07.77 And they're thinking, 00:15:07.80\00:15:09.14 "Okay, well, hey, we have, up to this point, 00:15:09.17\00:15:13.17 we are fully in alignment with what you just said." 00:15:13.21\00:15:16.44 But then he goes on in verse 20 to say this, 00:15:16.48\00:15:19.38 "For I say to you, that unless your righteousness 00:15:19.41\00:15:23.72 exceeds the righteousness of the Pharisees 00:15:23.75\00:15:26.52 or scribes and Pharisees, 00:15:26.55\00:15:28.69 you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." 00:15:28.72\00:15:31.13 Then he goes to break it down 00:15:31.16\00:15:32.66 what he meant by the 'their righteousness.' 00:15:32.69\00:15:35.16 Look at very 21, 00:15:35.20\00:15:37.27 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 00:15:37.30\00:15:40.27 you shall not murder, 00:15:40.30\00:15:41.64 and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment, 00:15:41.67\00:15:43.54 but I say to you that 00:15:43.57\00:15:44.91 whoever is angry with his brother 00:15:44.94\00:15:46.34 without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. 00:15:46.37\00:15:49.04 And whoever says to his brother, Raca, 00:15:49.08\00:15:50.75 shall be in danger of the council." 00:15:50.78\00:15:52.61 And he goes on. 00:15:52.65\00:15:54.12 And what he's doing is comparing 00:15:54.15\00:15:57.19 not just the actual law itself but the spirit of it. 00:15:57.22\00:16:01.19 And let me make application before I go to 2 Corinthians 3. 00:16:01.22\00:16:05.63 Today, in Christianity, the danger that, 00:16:05.66\00:16:09.56 let me just use this phrase, 00:16:09.60\00:16:10.93 the danger that can be a stumbling block 00:16:10.97\00:16:13.03 to those who honour the commandments of God. 00:16:13.07\00:16:15.27 Because you have these, 00:16:15.30\00:16:16.64 once again, I'll go back to Dispensationalism. 00:16:16.67\00:16:19.14 You have this period in Christian history 00:16:19.17\00:16:21.01 where many evangelicals today say, 00:16:21.04\00:16:23.51 "Well, in the Old Testament, 00:16:23.55\00:16:25.31 they will say, by keeping the law, 00:16:25.35\00:16:27.22 now we will say, by grace through faith." 00:16:27.25\00:16:30.29 And so they say, the dispensation of law, 00:16:30.32\00:16:32.65 the dispensation of grace. 00:16:32.69\00:16:34.92 And so now when you mention the Sabbath today, they say, 00:16:34.96\00:16:38.16 that was under the old dispensation. 00:16:38.19\00:16:40.93 That's how they try to sweep it under the rug. 00:16:40.96\00:16:42.96 But today, we just honour the Lord 00:16:43.00\00:16:45.03 and it really does not matter, 00:16:45.07\00:16:46.40 we just, this whole Spirit is more important 00:16:46.43\00:16:49.57 than the actual letter. 00:16:49.60\00:16:51.31 So what they have done is they said 00:16:51.34\00:16:52.84 the Spirit is more important than the letter 00:16:52.87\00:16:55.28 and the Pharisees says, 00:16:55.31\00:16:56.64 the letter is more important than the Spirit. 00:16:56.68\00:16:58.51 But John 4:23, Jesus says, 00:16:58.55\00:17:01.18 "The hour has come 00:17:01.22\00:17:03.15 that the true worshiper must worship the Father 00:17:03.18\00:17:06.25 in Spirit and in truth, 00:17:06.29\00:17:08.92 for the Father seeking such to worship," 00:17:08.96\00:17:10.93 John 4:23-24. 00:17:10.96\00:17:13.56 And so you have Jesus saying, 00:17:13.60\00:17:15.16 "You think that the letter does not matter? 00:17:15.20\00:17:16.70 Wrong. 00:17:16.73\00:17:18.07 You think only the Spirit matters? 00:17:18.10\00:17:19.43 Wrong." 00:17:19.47\00:17:20.80 The letter and the Spirit 00:17:20.84\00:17:22.17 together is where Jesus is talking about we must be, 00:17:22.20\00:17:25.44 and that's balance. 00:17:25.47\00:17:27.08 So today, Paul the Apostle, 00:17:27.11\00:17:28.98 when he ran into this very same fraction 00:17:29.01\00:17:31.11 among the Christians at Corinth, 00:17:31.15\00:17:33.48 he said in 2 Corinthians 3:6, 00:17:33.52\00:17:36.89 let me go ahead 00:17:36.92\00:17:38.25 and bring up the context of that 00:17:38.29\00:17:39.62 because it's very important. 00:17:39.65\00:17:41.92 By the way, do you have that? I don't know if you have that. 00:17:41.96\00:17:43.43 2 Corinthians, what? 00:17:43.46\00:17:44.79 Chapter 3 and verse 6. Let's look at that. 00:17:44.83\00:17:48.10 I could even start with verse 4. 00:17:48.13\00:17:51.43 2 Corinthians 3: 4. 00:17:51.47\00:17:53.90 Go ahead and read that for us. 00:17:53.94\00:17:55.27 "And we have such trust through Christ toward God. 00:17:55.30\00:17:58.47 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves 00:17:58.51\00:18:00.14 to think of anything as being from ourselves, 00:18:00.18\00:18:03.04 but our sufficiency is from God, 00:18:03.08\00:18:05.35 who also made us sufficient 00:18:05.38\00:18:06.72 as ministers of the new covenant, 00:18:06.75\00:18:08.78 not of the letter but of the Spirit, 00:18:08.82\00:18:11.15 for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." 00:18:11.19\00:18:13.72 Okay, so he is saying 00:18:13.76\00:18:16.06 "Where were those who focus so much on the letter?" 00:18:16.09\00:18:19.13 I think they had no Spirit. 00:18:19.16\00:18:20.83 I like the way one preacher says, 00:18:20.86\00:18:22.76 "Too much law you..." 00:18:22.80\00:18:25.03 What's the phrase? 00:18:28.14\00:18:29.57 "Too much law, you dry up, too much Spirit, you blow up, 00:18:29.60\00:18:33.78 but when you combine law and spirit together 00:18:33.81\00:18:35.38 you grow up." 00:18:35.41\00:18:36.75 See? 00:18:36.78\00:18:38.11 There are those who "Law, law, law, law." 00:18:38.15\00:18:39.48 There are those 00:18:39.51\00:18:40.85 "Grace, grace, grace, grace, grace." 00:18:40.88\00:18:42.22 Then, they throw the whole baby and the bath water out. 00:18:42.25\00:18:44.39 We don't needs God's commandments, 00:18:44.42\00:18:45.75 we don't need God's law, we are under grace, 00:18:45.79\00:18:47.62 we're saved by grace through faith. 00:18:47.66\00:18:49.62 And you have this wishy-washy 00:18:49.66\00:18:51.13 pabulum of religion with no solidity to it, 00:18:51.16\00:18:53.93 and you could do anything as long as you love the Lord, 00:18:53.96\00:18:55.96 pick a day as long as you have a day, 00:18:56.00\00:18:58.57 as long as you just do good things. 00:18:58.60\00:19:00.64 The Lord condemn that and that's why he says, 00:19:00.67\00:19:03.71 "The letter killeth, if that's all you focus on, 00:19:03.74\00:19:06.21 but the Spirit makes a life," 00:19:06.24\00:19:07.71 and then he combines it to Spirit and in truth. 00:19:07.74\00:19:10.75 So in a nutshell, as an Adventist 00:19:10.78\00:19:14.12 we cannot focus just on, 00:19:14.15\00:19:15.88 well, if you don't keep the Sabbath, 00:19:15.92\00:19:17.25 you'll be lost, if you don't... 00:19:17.29\00:19:19.05 You know, we have to make sure that 00:19:19.09\00:19:21.32 the purpose of it is John 14:15, 00:19:21.36\00:19:24.13 which we know, "If you love Me, keep My commandments." 00:19:24.16\00:19:27.60 The Spirit of love must be encompassed 00:19:27.63\00:19:30.53 and accompanied but anything 00:19:30.57\00:19:32.80 because that's what the Pharisees didn't have. 00:19:32.83\00:19:35.30 They did not have that. 00:19:35.34\00:19:36.84 They were sticklers of the law 00:19:36.87\00:19:39.01 and they did not have any grace connected to it. 00:19:39.04\00:19:42.11 I am resisting going into our topic. 00:19:42.14\00:19:43.88 I know. 00:19:43.91\00:19:45.25 Because this is a good launch, 00:19:45.28\00:19:46.61 but I think we have time for one more question, you think? 00:19:46.65\00:19:47.98 Okay, you want to do it? Yeah. 00:19:48.02\00:19:49.82 This one is from Darrel, 00:19:49.85\00:19:53.69 and it says, "My question is this, 00:19:53.72\00:19:55.82 'Will God answer the prayer of a person 00:19:55.86\00:19:57.53 who was not keeping the Ten Commandments?' 00:19:57.56\00:20:01.06 " All right, good question. 00:20:01.10\00:20:03.90 Let's go to a couple of passages here, 00:20:03.93\00:20:06.30 number one, Jeremiah 11. 00:20:06.33\00:20:09.70 Let's go to Jeremiah 11:10-11. 00:20:09.74\00:20:15.44 And I am going to read here, this is in regard to Israel, 00:20:20.52\00:20:23.79 there have been a rebellion for some time, 00:20:23.82\00:20:25.62 it's one of their cycles of rebellion. 00:20:25.65\00:20:28.19 And so the Lord is speaking and he says here, 00:20:28.22\00:20:32.59 "They have turned back 00:20:32.63\00:20:35.13 to the iniquities of their forefathers 00:20:35.16\00:20:36.97 who refused to hear My words, 00:20:37.00\00:20:39.00 they have gone after other Gods to serve them, 00:20:39.03\00:20:41.47 the house of Israel and the house of Judah 00:20:41.50\00:20:43.20 have broken My covenant 00:20:43.24\00:20:44.57 which I made with their fathers. 00:20:44.61\00:20:46.27 Therefore, thus says the Lord: 00:20:46.31\00:20:48.31 Behold, I will surely bring calamity on them 00:20:48.34\00:20:52.21 which they will not be able to escape, 00:20:52.25\00:20:53.92 and though they cry out to Me, I will not..." 00:20:53.95\00:20:56.45 What? "Listen to them." 00:20:56.48\00:20:59.05 So clearly, you can get to a point. 00:20:59.09\00:21:00.92 The Bible is pretty definitive on this. 00:21:00.96\00:21:05.46 You can reach a point where God will hear 00:21:05.49\00:21:08.96 and it's a result of rebellion, 00:21:09.00\00:21:11.10 but as the kind of rebellion is the kind of action 00:21:11.13\00:21:15.27 in the practice in life 00:21:15.30\00:21:17.17 where you have turned from the Lord 00:21:17.21\00:21:19.24 and you do not want to do the Lord's will. 00:21:19.27\00:21:22.38 There is no desire for repentance, 00:21:22.41\00:21:24.05 there is no sorrow for sin, 00:21:24.08\00:21:26.01 it's a clear path of rebellion, and you know the commandments. 00:21:26.05\00:21:30.12 The Israelites knew very well what The Ten Commandments were, 00:21:30.15\00:21:32.59 they were carrying with them everywhere. 00:21:32.62\00:21:35.12 And they were an integral part of their life, 00:21:35.16\00:21:37.89 but they refusing to hear. 00:21:37.93\00:21:39.73 And in this case, they were making other Gods 00:21:39.76\00:21:41.66 and putting other Gods before their God, 00:21:41.70\00:21:44.57 the God of Heaven. 00:21:44.60\00:21:46.30 And so God says, I will not hear you. 00:21:46.33\00:21:49.40 Now, so back to the question, 00:21:49.44\00:21:53.21 "The prayer of a person 00:21:53.24\00:21:54.58 who's not keeping the Commandment, 00:21:54.61\00:21:55.94 is that prayer heard?" 00:21:55.98\00:21:57.31 It depends. 00:21:57.35\00:21:59.01 Because there are many who break the Ten Commandments, 00:21:59.05\00:22:01.42 who'll break one of the Commandments 00:22:01.45\00:22:02.85 but don't know they are doing that. 00:22:02.88\00:22:04.32 They don't know they are living. 00:22:04.35\00:22:05.69 Sin of ignorance. 00:22:05.72\00:22:07.06 Yeah, and you could also say 00:22:07.09\00:22:09.86 that most of us have sins of ignorance. 00:22:09.89\00:22:14.50 I mean, we all have things we need to work on. 00:22:14.53\00:22:16.43 In fact, the closer we get to Christ, 00:22:16.46\00:22:18.07 the more sinful we see ourselves to be 00:22:18.10\00:22:20.30 because we compare with the One that is perfect. 00:22:20.34\00:22:23.94 So you cannot say just 00:22:23.97\00:22:25.64 because someone has committed a sin or has a sin 00:22:25.67\00:22:29.34 that they're probably not aware of that 00:22:29.38\00:22:31.51 they are not heard by God. 00:22:31.55\00:22:34.22 God reads the heart. 00:22:34.25\00:22:36.05 What's that, "Man's looks upon the outward appearance 00:22:36.08\00:22:38.35 but the Lord looks upon the heart." 00:22:38.39\00:22:40.32 He sees our desire, he sees our motive. 00:22:40.36\00:22:42.96 And there are many in this world, 00:22:42.99\00:22:45.33 I believe, good meaning, well meaning 00:22:45.36\00:22:47.13 Christians who are following the Lord 00:22:47.16\00:22:48.50 with all their heart 00:22:48.53\00:22:49.86 and living up to every bit of light 00:22:49.90\00:22:51.83 that they have been given 00:22:51.87\00:22:53.20 and they study to know 00:22:53.23\00:22:54.57 and come to know through His word, 00:22:54.60\00:22:56.34 and they may be breaking a commandment. 00:22:56.37\00:22:58.07 But God still hears them 00:22:58.11\00:23:00.24 because they are doing it in ignorance, 00:23:00.28\00:23:01.78 they're not doing it with willing, disobedience, 00:23:01.81\00:23:04.48 as was happening back then. 00:23:04.51\00:23:07.62 I'll also mentioned John 14:13-15, 00:23:07.65\00:23:10.89 you have a promise there where Jesus says, 00:23:10.92\00:23:14.86 "Ask anything in My name and I will do it", 00:23:14.89\00:23:17.66 and then verse 15, He says 00:23:17.69\00:23:19.03 "If you love Me, keep My commandments." 00:23:19.06\00:23:20.60 So there's a clear connection 00:23:20.63\00:23:21.96 between obedience and the freedom to ask 00:23:22.00\00:23:25.77 God for anything. 00:23:25.80\00:23:27.44 So the best situation any of us can be in this to know 00:23:27.47\00:23:30.74 that we're living up to the light that we received, 00:23:30.77\00:23:32.87 we're not rejecting his commandments, 00:23:32.91\00:23:34.58 we're not rejecting any of the words 00:23:34.61\00:23:38.01 that He says in His word. 00:23:38.05\00:23:40.48 And we know without a doubt that He hears us 00:23:40.52\00:23:43.49 because He loves us 00:23:43.52\00:23:44.92 and He knows our heart is for Him. 00:23:44.95\00:23:46.96 You know, building on that, 00:23:46.99\00:23:50.16 I mean, you made a very good point, 00:23:50.19\00:23:51.53 just to further emphasize the question. 00:23:51.56\00:23:54.40 There is a condition to prayers being answered and lot of times 00:23:54.43\00:23:58.30 we don't think of God's promises his conditions, 00:23:58.33\00:24:01.14 but God's promises are conditional. 00:24:01.17\00:24:03.07 Couple of things I want to point out and you said, 00:24:03.10\00:24:05.24 but I want to reiterate, you know, 00:24:05.27\00:24:06.84 sometimes repetition is the best teacher. 00:24:06.88\00:24:10.68 If a person does not know, Acts 17, 30, 00:24:10.71\00:24:14.72 "Times of ignorance God overlooked" 00:24:14.75\00:24:16.95 or God winked at as the King James Version says, 00:24:16.99\00:24:19.15 "But now commands all men everywhere to repent." 00:24:19.19\00:24:21.86 When a person is unaware of something, 00:24:21.89\00:24:24.76 the sincerity precedes that individual. 00:24:24.79\00:24:28.06 Now, let me just be candid about what I mean. 00:24:28.10\00:24:31.10 You can't say, well, I never read the commandments 00:24:31.13\00:24:32.80 so I didn't know it was a sin to kill. 00:24:32.83\00:24:35.24 There are certain things that we know are wrong. 00:24:35.27\00:24:38.44 You know, because the Lord has placed His law 00:24:38.47\00:24:40.84 in our minds and our hearts. 00:24:40.88\00:24:43.11 So this Spirit that speaks to a person 00:24:43.14\00:24:45.21 just before they are about to commit a heinous crime 00:24:45.25\00:24:48.58 only when they pass the boundaries of God's grace 00:24:48.62\00:24:52.25 they have turned off the voice of the Spirit of God, 00:24:52.29\00:24:56.06 they can commit such heinous crimes 00:24:56.09\00:24:58.43 because they're no longer tuned into the spirit of God. 00:24:58.46\00:25:01.10 They don't want to hear it and the Lord has, 00:25:01.13\00:25:02.96 in the case of Psalm, has departed from them. 00:25:03.00\00:25:05.90 So people are able to carry these things, 00:25:05.93\00:25:07.64 but we are not talking about that extremist of a situation. 00:25:07.67\00:25:10.51 They are those who and honestly, 00:25:10.54\00:25:12.27 let's just say they are many people 00:25:12.31\00:25:13.88 that honour the first day of the week. 00:25:13.91\00:25:15.61 They have no clue. 00:25:15.64\00:25:16.98 There are many people 00:25:17.01\00:25:18.35 that embrace the teachings of the rapture, 00:25:18.38\00:25:20.72 the secret rapture, 00:25:20.75\00:25:22.15 they have not heard anything else and as the Lord, 00:25:22.18\00:25:25.29 as they pray for the Spirit of God 00:25:25.32\00:25:26.86 to continue to lead them, John 16:13, 00:25:26.89\00:25:29.36 "He will lead them and guide them into all truth." 00:25:29.39\00:25:32.23 But once you become aware, 00:25:32.26\00:25:34.23 there is a different standard applied altogether. 00:25:34.26\00:25:36.70 Once you are aware, the Lord makes you 00:25:36.73\00:25:41.10 in a different category altogether. 00:25:41.14\00:25:42.77 So when you get to that point that you know better now... 00:25:42.80\00:25:46.17 let me use the Sabbath as an example 00:25:46.21\00:25:48.21 that you know that the Sabbath is God's holy day. 00:25:48.24\00:25:50.68 You know that He did not sanctify Sunday, 00:25:50.71\00:25:53.42 but now Proverbs 28:9 comes into play, 00:25:53.45\00:25:57.65 "One who turns his ear from hearing the law, 00:25:57.69\00:26:02.59 even his prayer is an abomination." 00:26:02.62\00:26:06.46 That's huge. 00:26:06.49\00:26:07.83 So now "I don't want to hear, I don't to hear." 00:26:07.86\00:26:09.66 I met a guy I once studying with. 00:26:09.70\00:26:11.27 "I don't want to hear, I don't want to hear," 00:26:11.30\00:26:12.63 and I said what is that all about? 00:26:12.67\00:26:14.04 He said "If I hear it, I'm responsible." 00:26:14.07\00:26:17.51 If you hear that railroad crossing bells and whistles, 00:26:17.54\00:26:22.04 if you hear the ding, ding, ding, ding, 00:26:22.08\00:26:24.61 you could plug your ear, but you're gonna get killed. 00:26:24.65\00:26:26.92 Yeah, whether acknowledge it's coming or not. 00:26:26.95\00:26:29.28 I didn't hear it. I'm in the emergency room. 00:26:29.32\00:26:31.25 I didn't hear it. But what you had? 00:26:31.29\00:26:33.02 I had my headsets in. 00:26:33.05\00:26:34.46 It was ringing, it was glanging, 00:26:34.49\00:26:36.79 it was gonging, and you just chose not to hear. 00:26:36.83\00:26:39.66 In the very same way, ignorance is not protection 00:26:39.69\00:26:44.00 when you know better. 00:26:44.03\00:26:45.37 Another text in Isaiah 59:2, 00:26:45.40\00:26:48.67 "But your iniquities have separated you from your God, 00:26:48.70\00:26:52.34 and your sins have hidden His face from you, 00:26:52.37\00:26:56.34 so that He will not hear." 00:26:56.38\00:26:58.41 So we have these cherished sins that we continue to participate 00:26:58.45\00:27:01.78 and the Lord says you know what? 00:27:01.82\00:27:04.12 You keeping going asking Me for things, 00:27:04.15\00:27:06.29 I'm not going to listen to you and here is the reason why. 00:27:06.32\00:27:09.82 1 John 3:22. 00:27:09.86\00:27:12.69 Go there John and read that for us. 00:27:12.73\00:27:14.06 Here is the reason 00:27:14.10\00:27:15.43 why Lord will not listen to some individuals 00:27:15.46\00:27:17.00 because when you know God's requirements 00:27:17.03\00:27:19.17 and you choose to ignore them 00:27:19.20\00:27:20.77 and you think that God is kind a like Walmart or Macy's, 00:27:20.80\00:27:24.37 that just is going to swipe your card 00:27:24.41\00:27:25.91 and give you whatever you ask for. 00:27:25.94\00:27:27.41 No, there are conditions to what God responds to. 00:27:27.44\00:27:30.98 1 John 3, verse 22. 00:27:31.01\00:27:32.71 "And whatever we ask we receive from Him, 00:27:32.75\00:27:35.02 because we keep His commandments 00:27:35.05\00:27:36.42 and do those things 00:27:36.45\00:27:37.79 that are pleasing in His sight." 00:27:37.82\00:27:39.22 Okay, there you go. 00:27:39.25\00:27:40.59 So you just can't keep the commandments 00:27:40.62\00:27:41.99 and say, hey, all these things I have done 00:27:42.02\00:27:43.53 since I was a youth, the rich young ruler. 00:27:43.56\00:27:46.16 But you do what is pleasing in His sight 00:27:46.19\00:27:49.00 and that's why when the Bible says 00:27:49.03\00:27:52.37 when the Lord says to Job, there is none like him, 00:27:52.40\00:27:55.40 he resists evil 00:27:55.44\00:27:58.01 and when the Lord calls the person righteous 00:27:58.04\00:28:00.34 is because that person lives that way in His sight. 00:28:00.38\00:28:02.74 You know, this is another reason 00:28:02.78\00:28:04.11 why we should never reach the point of saying 00:28:04.15\00:28:05.98 I've learned it all. 00:28:06.01\00:28:07.98 This is the most dangerous position 00:28:08.02\00:28:09.58 I think we can become or we can get in to is that, 00:28:09.62\00:28:12.49 you know, I know the truth, I've got all the truth 00:28:12.52\00:28:16.69 and then, somehow, we become closed to any new revelation 00:28:16.73\00:28:21.86 or new understanding of something. 00:28:21.90\00:28:23.60 And I know that, you know, 00:28:23.63\00:28:25.23 our evangelical brothers and friends out there are just, 00:28:25.27\00:28:31.67 they have a different, it's a different gospel 00:28:31.71\00:28:33.84 and we're going to be talking about that. 00:28:33.88\00:28:35.21 This is dispensational kind of view of the gospel 00:28:35.24\00:28:37.75 and a prophecy and of many things. 00:28:37.78\00:28:39.21 We'll talk about that, 00:28:39.25\00:28:40.58 but they're just not open to hearing the other side 00:28:40.62\00:28:46.32 and I think that that is one of the things 00:28:46.35\00:28:48.12 that really brings about a downfall to a church 00:28:48.16\00:28:53.36 because they willingly disregard 00:28:53.40\00:28:55.43 what God is trying to teach them. 00:28:55.46\00:28:56.80 And He can do no more with them, 00:28:56.83\00:28:58.43 as if, they've gone as far as they can go. 00:28:58.47\00:29:00.77 That's why in the Bible in, I believe, 00:29:00.80\00:29:03.14 it's in the Book of Acts where Paul says, 00:29:03.17\00:29:06.01 these were more noble than those in Thessalonica. 00:29:06.04\00:29:10.21 And he's speaking about the Bereans. 00:29:10.25\00:29:11.58 Yeah. 00:29:11.61\00:29:12.95 And that they received 00:29:12.98\00:29:14.32 the word of God with all readiness 00:29:14.35\00:29:15.68 and they searched the scriptures daily 00:29:15.72\00:29:17.39 to see whether these things were so, 00:29:17.42\00:29:19.39 I looked into that and I discovered that 00:29:19.42\00:29:21.72 the Jews in Thessalonica were field by prejedous, 00:29:21.76\00:29:26.13 that is not so much a racial prejedous 00:29:26.16\00:29:28.60 but they had already come to the conclusion 00:29:28.63\00:29:31.10 that they rejected the Messiah. 00:29:31.13\00:29:32.47 So any preaching about the Messiah 00:29:32.50\00:29:34.07 was already suspect. 00:29:34.10\00:29:35.67 It was like, "I don't want to hear it, 00:29:35.70\00:29:37.04 I don't want to hear it, I don't want to hear it. 00:29:37.07\00:29:38.97 I know exactly what you're going to preach about." 00:29:39.01\00:29:40.41 And today, the same thing has happened. 00:29:40.44\00:29:42.18 I knew you going to be talking about the Sabbath, 00:29:42.21\00:29:44.15 I knew you're gonna talk about the state of the dead, 00:29:44.18\00:29:45.78 the 2,300 days, eternal burning. 00:29:45.81\00:29:48.72 I don't want to hear it, I don't want to hear it. 00:29:48.75\00:29:50.09 And that's what's happening 00:29:50.12\00:29:51.45 in many of the evangelical communities, 00:29:51.49\00:29:52.82 I don't want to hear it. 00:29:52.85\00:29:54.19 I was talking to somebody on this Facebook page 00:29:54.22\00:29:57.86 that was set up, you know, 00:29:57.89\00:29:59.46 Truth Seekers or whatever the title was, 00:29:59.49\00:30:01.53 and I was going back and forth in dialoguing 00:30:01.56\00:30:04.07 with someone in regard to the Ten Commandments, 00:30:04.10\00:30:05.63 because they had raised the question 00:30:05.67\00:30:07.00 and I chimed in on it 00:30:07.04\00:30:08.37 and they came back really hard, really strong against that. 00:30:08.40\00:30:10.71 You know, "We're in a Gospel of Grace, 00:30:10.74\00:30:12.67 we're not in the law anymore. 00:30:12.71\00:30:14.04 All you law keepers," you know, about the Sabbath and, 00:30:14.08\00:30:17.18 "You're under a burden" 00:30:17.21\00:30:18.55 and just the typical stuff you get. 00:30:18.58\00:30:20.55 And, I said, well, how about all these times 00:30:20.58\00:30:25.15 where Jesus says very clearly 00:30:25.19\00:30:26.76 and asks through the epistles of the apostles, those letters, 00:30:26.79\00:30:30.93 how come they say "keep the commandments of God?" 00:30:30.96\00:30:32.66 He says, "Oh, those aren't the Ten Commandments." 00:30:32.69\00:30:35.56 And they even cite them... 00:30:35.60\00:30:36.93 And, I said, wait a minute, 00:30:36.97\00:30:38.30 those aren't the Ten Commandments? 00:30:38.33\00:30:39.67 He said, "No, those are Jesus Commandments, 00:30:39.70\00:30:41.04 he gave new Commandments." 00:30:41.07\00:30:43.04 I said, wait a minute, "The Jesus, the 'I am,' 00:30:43.07\00:30:46.71 that also was the one that met Moses on the burning bush 00:30:46.74\00:30:49.81 and the one that gave the Commandments 00:30:49.84\00:30:51.41 to Moses way back when, 00:30:51.45\00:30:52.78 the same one Jesus appeared in the New Testament, 00:30:52.81\00:30:54.72 he has other Commandments, new ones?" 00:30:54.75\00:30:57.55 He discarded the old ones and... 00:30:57.59\00:30:59.65 "Yes." And they have no proof of that. 00:30:59.69\00:31:02.82 They have no proof. It's unbiblical. 00:31:02.86\00:31:06.19 It comes from a higher critical way of approaching the Bible. 00:31:06.23\00:31:08.90 They don't use any kind of proof-texting. 00:31:08.93\00:31:10.77 You know, we talk about proof-texting 00:31:10.80\00:31:12.13 sometimes in a bad light. 00:31:12.17\00:31:13.50 No. 00:31:13.54\00:31:14.87 But, there is a time for proof-texting. 00:31:14.90\00:31:16.24 When you're looking at subject matters, 00:31:16.27\00:31:17.61 you need to compare scripture with scripture 00:31:17.64\00:31:18.97 and they prove each other out. 00:31:19.01\00:31:21.44 Right. And they're important. 00:31:21.48\00:31:23.68 And so, but this willing ignorance 00:31:23.71\00:31:26.31 and just rejection of any kind of that study, 00:31:26.35\00:31:30.05 you know, I... There is something in, um, 00:31:30.09\00:31:33.09 our court of law today called 00:31:33.12\00:31:34.69 "the preponderance of the evidence." 00:31:34.72\00:31:36.96 Right. 00:31:36.99\00:31:38.33 And we're not talking about circumstantial evidence. 00:31:38.36\00:31:39.73 No. 00:31:39.76\00:31:41.10 You know, we can't convict under circumstantial evidence. 00:31:41.13\00:31:42.46 But we can convict 00:31:42.50\00:31:43.83 under the preponderance of good evidence. 00:31:43.87\00:31:46.43 And when you put all the scriptures 00:31:46.47\00:31:47.80 on a specific topic, 00:31:47.84\00:31:49.17 that something you're trying to study out together, 00:31:49.20\00:31:51.57 you're gonna have some text 00:31:51.61\00:31:52.94 that might appear to say something else, 00:31:52.97\00:31:55.54 but when you line everything up in your columns 00:31:55.58\00:31:57.58 is to what they appear to be saying, 00:31:57.61\00:31:59.21 you're gonna find it where preponderance of the evidence 00:31:59.25\00:32:01.62 leaning in one direction over the others. 00:32:01.65\00:32:03.28 That's right. 00:32:03.32\00:32:04.65 And that is something that they refuse to do 00:32:04.69\00:32:06.79 when they search the scriptures. 00:32:06.82\00:32:08.16 They take one or two texts 00:32:08.19\00:32:09.52 that appear to say something else 00:32:09.56\00:32:10.89 and they go with that 00:32:10.93\00:32:12.26 because it fits into their model 00:32:12.29\00:32:13.63 which is a dispensational model. 00:32:13.66\00:32:16.30 All the other texts that don't appear to say that 00:32:16.33\00:32:18.03 which are the evidence of truth, 00:32:18.07\00:32:20.34 they reject. 00:32:20.37\00:32:21.97 And so there is a time to refer to the scriptures. 00:32:22.00\00:32:27.28 When it comes to your future, your destiny, your salvation, 00:32:27.31\00:32:30.75 don't put that based on a theory, 00:32:30.78\00:32:32.85 it has to be supported by God's word. 00:32:32.88\00:32:34.22 I'm gonna kinda leave it there, 00:32:34.25\00:32:35.58 'cause, you know, we wanna transition into our topic 00:32:35.62\00:32:38.45 which is gonna be a display 00:32:38.49\00:32:41.09 of what we just talked about here. 00:32:41.12\00:32:43.19 So if you have any questions you wanna send to us, 00:32:43.22\00:32:45.46 you can send those to housecalls@3abn.org, 00:32:45.49\00:32:49.20 that's housecalls@3abn.org, 00:32:49.23\00:32:51.90 and we will gladly by God's leading, 00:32:51.93\00:32:53.80 answer those questions, according to God's word. 00:32:53.84\00:32:57.44 That is the foundation here at this network. 00:32:57.47\00:33:01.74 The word of God is the foundation upon 00:33:01.78\00:33:04.78 which we are established. 00:33:04.81\00:33:07.05 Now, John, lead into a little bit, 00:33:07.08\00:33:08.62 because a lot of the research 00:33:08.65\00:33:10.62 that we're gonna be talking about here today 00:33:10.65\00:33:12.49 are putting together the comparative analysis. 00:33:12.52\00:33:15.86 Now we used the big word "comparative analysis." 00:33:15.89\00:33:20.00 We laid some foundation in the beginning of the program, 00:33:20.03\00:33:23.26 at the top of the hour, 00:33:23.30\00:33:24.87 talking about dispensationalism. 00:33:24.90\00:33:29.87 Really, dispensationalism is responsible for so much 00:33:29.90\00:33:34.88 that exists in Christianity today 00:33:34.91\00:33:37.38 and I'll talk about some of the translations 00:33:37.41\00:33:39.25 and how you can tell whether your Bible is affected by it 00:33:39.28\00:33:41.45 or your study notes are affected by it. 00:33:41.48\00:33:44.25 But, um, the categories that Dispensationalism 00:33:44.29\00:33:47.66 often effects is like law, grace, covenants, 00:33:47.69\00:33:51.99 and what are some of the other ones? 00:33:52.03\00:33:53.53 The Rapture, Second Coming, 00:33:53.56\00:33:55.70 the Resurrection, ah, Tribulation, 00:33:55.73\00:33:58.63 you know, the end time, great Tribulation period, 00:33:58.67\00:34:02.30 among other things, Prophecy, 00:34:02.34\00:34:04.54 time prophecy is much more literal 00:34:04.57\00:34:08.24 than understating a day for a year. 00:34:08.28\00:34:10.55 So, everything, it really runs the gamut. 00:34:10.58\00:34:12.58 Yeah. The millennium. 00:34:12.61\00:34:13.95 You know, we heard the phrase, 00:34:13.98\00:34:15.32 The Earthly Reign, The Millennia Reign 00:34:15.35\00:34:17.29 and people waiting for, wanting to go to Jerusalem, 00:34:17.32\00:34:22.16 where the sacrificial system is gonna be set up again. 00:34:22.19\00:34:24.73 That's all... 00:34:24.76\00:34:26.09 Christ will return to rule there and... 00:34:26.13\00:34:27.53 Yeah. 00:34:27.56\00:34:28.90 So, we're gonna cover a lot of these things, 00:34:28.93\00:34:30.87 each of these topics and just show 00:34:30.90\00:34:32.23 what God's word actually says about that. 00:34:32.27\00:34:34.97 But, I'm wondering, may be, I'll give you way back history 00:34:35.00\00:34:37.54 and then you jump in, 00:34:37.57\00:34:38.91 'cause I know, you preached recently, 00:34:38.94\00:34:40.61 not too long ago on some of the detail of this, 00:34:40.64\00:34:43.24 so you are more fresh up on it than I am. 00:34:43.28\00:34:45.25 Matter of fact, I've done, I did a whole series called, 00:34:45.28\00:34:47.08 "Final Events," which is available through 3ABN, 00:34:47.12\00:34:49.62 it's "Final Events," a five hour series, 00:34:49.65\00:34:52.75 specifically focusing on the theory of the Rapture. 00:34:52.79\00:34:55.89 Yeah. 00:34:55.92\00:34:57.26 Where it came from, 00:34:57.29\00:34:58.63 bringing it all the way to today. 00:34:58.66\00:35:00.00 Yeah. Yeah. 00:35:00.03\00:35:01.36 See, that's a lot more level of detail 00:35:01.40\00:35:02.73 than I've brushed up on here lately. 00:35:02.76\00:35:04.17 But, one thing we do know, is that, after Christ Ascension 00:35:04.20\00:35:10.41 and the Gospel went like wild fire, 00:35:10.44\00:35:13.14 you had the devil kind of shift years a bit 00:35:13.17\00:35:15.58 and instead of saying, I can't beat him, 00:35:15.61\00:35:17.71 I'm gonna join him and you have pagans shifting 00:35:17.75\00:35:20.22 and coming into the church. 00:35:20.25\00:35:22.22 And so, Rome which before had been more pagan 00:35:22.25\00:35:25.42 had become people. 00:35:25.45\00:35:27.32 The Church of Rome. 00:35:27.36\00:35:28.79 And, it wasn't that the church was pure 00:35:28.82\00:35:33.09 and pagans as they came into the church converted, 00:35:33.13\00:35:36.16 it was more of pagans bringing in their rites, 00:35:36.20\00:35:38.63 their ceremonies, their beliefs 00:35:38.67\00:35:40.27 and mingle them with Christianity 00:35:40.30\00:35:42.07 that developed that church 00:35:42.10\00:35:44.21 and for, for many hundreds and hundreds of years 00:35:44.24\00:35:47.58 and the God to appoint where the Lord intervened 00:35:47.61\00:35:49.94 and he rose up, he brought forward to the forefront, 00:35:49.98\00:35:53.85 a reformation, known as the Protestant Reformation. 00:35:53.88\00:35:57.59 That's right. 00:35:57.62\00:35:58.95 So, we have a period of reformers, 00:35:58.99\00:36:00.32 different reformers starting with Martin Luther, 00:36:00.36\00:36:02.32 coming through and getting back to the Bible. 00:36:02.36\00:36:04.73 Their montreal was sola scriptura, 00:36:04.76\00:36:07.00 which was the Bible and Bible alone 00:36:07.03\00:36:09.10 for all rule of faith and practice. 00:36:09.13\00:36:11.53 And, the light was shed back on the word rather than tradition 00:36:11.57\00:36:17.21 and rather than what had been going on 00:36:17.24\00:36:19.44 for hundreds and hundreds of years. 00:36:19.47\00:36:21.81 Not only did it bring out the word of God again, 00:36:21.84\00:36:25.81 which was hidden for many of those years, 00:36:25.85\00:36:27.72 and only defined and explained by the church, 00:36:27.75\00:36:32.05 which had a grip on it. 00:36:32.09\00:36:33.66 But, when that came to light, 00:36:33.69\00:36:35.76 the other thing that was pointed out 00:36:35.79\00:36:38.49 through that protestant reformation period 00:36:38.53\00:36:41.36 was eyes were on Rome as the Antichrist power. 00:36:41.40\00:36:45.80 Right. 00:36:45.83\00:36:47.20 So, they really felt the heat so to speak 00:36:47.24\00:36:50.74 and did everything they could through the inquisitions 00:36:50.77\00:36:53.11 and other things to try and put that down. 00:36:53.14\00:36:56.04 But again, the devil shifted his years 00:36:56.08\00:36:58.71 from force to joining. 00:36:58.75\00:37:00.78 Mm-hm. 00:37:00.82\00:37:02.15 He did the same thing he did early on, he does again. 00:37:02.18\00:37:04.19 And what he did was, 00:37:04.22\00:37:05.55 he launched a counter-reformation 00:37:05.59\00:37:08.72 and the counter-reformation was started first, 00:37:08.76\00:37:12.06 was initiated by the Church of Rome, 00:37:12.09\00:37:14.33 but it wasn't by force, 00:37:14.36\00:37:16.16 in other words by burning people at the stake 00:37:16.20\00:37:17.63 and other things anymore, 00:37:17.67\00:37:19.00 which did destroy and kill millions of people. 00:37:19.03\00:37:21.44 Yeah. More like 50 million. 00:37:21.47\00:37:22.80 But, it only grew, 00:37:22.84\00:37:24.17 this reformation only grew in that, 00:37:24.21\00:37:26.31 but this time they were going to sow seeds of false doctrine 00:37:26.34\00:37:30.55 and that's what it started to do for the counter-reformation. 00:37:30.58\00:37:34.02 Now, can you take us from there, 00:37:34.05\00:37:35.38 because there are two key figures 00:37:35.42\00:37:36.75 that came out that counter-reformation 00:37:36.79\00:37:38.12 and one of them won out, 00:37:38.15\00:37:39.89 which is where Dispensationalism came from. 00:37:39.92\00:37:42.49 You know, there were, there were two Jesuits 00:37:42.52\00:37:44.59 that were commissioned to work on 00:37:44.63\00:37:47.53 a theory that would take 00:37:47.56\00:37:50.93 the eyes of the reformers 00:37:50.97\00:37:52.43 Like Huss, and Jerome, and Wycliffe and Peter Waldo 00:37:52.47\00:37:56.27 and so many of the reformers of that era 00:37:56.30\00:38:00.61 would take their eyes off of the power of the dark ages, 00:38:00.64\00:38:04.08 the Church of the Dark Ages, which is the Roman church. 00:38:04.11\00:38:07.42 And, there were two things that were brought to the table. 00:38:07.45\00:38:12.42 Preterism, which was Luis de Alcazar 00:38:12.45\00:38:16.49 and futurism, which was Francisco Ribera. 00:38:16.52\00:38:21.13 Got to have that roll on there. 00:38:21.16\00:38:22.90 One proposed, Alcazar proposed that 00:38:22.93\00:38:26.07 all of prophecy had already been fulfilled. 00:38:26.10\00:38:29.30 Well, that was weak. Rome did not accept that. 00:38:29.34\00:38:32.27 But, when Francisco Ribera said, 00:38:32.31\00:38:34.74 certain prophecies had been fulfilled 00:38:34.78\00:38:36.91 but other are only going to be fulfilled in the future. 00:38:36.95\00:38:41.28 They established one called the "Gap Theory," 00:38:41.32\00:38:44.55 which was the 70-week prophecy of Daniel 9. 00:38:44.59\00:38:48.09 This was really developed by Darby, right, the Gap Theory, 00:38:48.12\00:38:50.29 he began to... 00:38:50.33\00:38:51.66 Yeah, and Darby gave it the term "The Gap Theory." 00:38:51.69\00:38:54.40 But, um, the Roman Church gave it 00:38:54.43\00:38:59.03 the theory called, um, "Futurism," 00:38:59.07\00:39:03.24 was the term that they used, because they said, well, 00:39:03.27\00:39:06.78 out of the 70-weeks of Daniel 9, 00:39:06.81\00:39:09.18 only 69 were fulfilled. 00:39:09.21\00:39:11.58 That was their proposition. 00:39:11.61\00:39:13.92 And they said, that the last one 00:39:13.95\00:39:15.78 is gonna come way in the future when "The Antichrist" shows up. 00:39:15.82\00:39:20.79 So, now if that one hasn't yet been fulfilled, 00:39:20.82\00:39:24.03 it's saying to the people of that day, 00:39:24.06\00:39:25.76 that had no Bibles, we can't be the Antichrist 00:39:25.79\00:39:28.60 because he's gonna come way in the future. 00:39:28.63\00:39:30.70 That's that dispensation. 00:39:30.73\00:39:32.53 The tribulation when that happens, 00:39:32.57\00:39:34.17 the Antichrist is the one responsible for that. 00:39:34.20\00:39:36.57 But, based on the nine descriptions in Daniel 7, 00:39:36.60\00:39:41.78 the Antichrist clearly was articulated 00:39:41.81\00:39:44.81 by the reformers of their day and they said, 00:39:44.85\00:39:47.35 Rome fits all of the identifying 00:39:47.38\00:39:49.95 qualifiers to be the... 00:39:49.98\00:39:52.35 And, almost to the very last one, 00:39:52.39\00:39:53.72 the reformers knew, their, they, 00:39:53.76\00:39:56.42 it was clear to them that Rome, 00:39:56.46\00:39:58.46 the Church of Rome was the Antichrist power. 00:39:58.49\00:40:00.80 There were only four beasts describes in Daniel 7 00:40:00.83\00:40:04.10 and Rome was the fourth one, 00:40:04.13\00:40:05.77 great, judgeful, terrible, iron teeth, 00:40:05.80\00:40:07.90 that stamps the residue 00:40:07.94\00:40:10.31 and anything that was under the power of Rome. 00:40:10.34\00:40:12.67 The iron kingdom of Rome was completely obliterated 00:40:12.71\00:40:17.18 and the reformers said, this is it, 00:40:17.21\00:40:19.28 This-is-it, everything matches. This is the power. 00:40:19.31\00:40:22.48 And that little horn comes up out of Rome. 00:40:22.52\00:40:24.72 That's right. 00:40:24.75\00:40:26.09 The seven heads and ten horns, 00:40:26.12\00:40:27.46 you had the 10 horns of Western Europe 00:40:27.49\00:40:30.23 and out of that, 3 nations, the Vandals, the Heruli, 00:40:30.26\00:40:32.66 and the Ostrogoths were uprooted 00:40:32.69\00:40:34.86 because they Arian nations, they resisted the rise of Rome. 00:40:34.90\00:40:38.23 When they were finally, 00:40:38.27\00:40:39.60 the last was removed in the year 538, 00:40:39.63\00:40:42.00 then Rome began that reign from 538 to 1798. 00:40:42.04\00:40:45.81 As the Bible says "time, times, and half a time," 00:40:45.84\00:40:48.04 so keeping this foundation helps us to see prophetically 00:40:48.08\00:40:51.68 that the Bible was clear about the position of Rome 00:40:51.71\00:40:54.55 but Rome said we don't want people to understand this. 00:40:54.58\00:40:57.32 So they began to advance and you know, John, 00:40:57.35\00:41:01.12 the apostles knew that this was going to happen. 00:41:01.16\00:41:04.33 In Acts 20:29, 00:41:04.36\00:41:07.80 listen to the words of the apostle, 00:41:07.83\00:41:10.63 he said "For I know this, that after my departing, 00:41:10.67\00:41:16.57 shall grievous wolves come in among you, 00:41:16.60\00:41:19.94 not sparing the flock. 00:41:19.97\00:41:22.31 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, 00:41:22.34\00:41:25.91 speaking perverse things, 00:41:25.95\00:41:28.55 to draw away the disciples after themselves. 00:41:28.58\00:41:31.75 Therefore watch and remember 00:41:31.79\00:41:33.62 that for three years I did not cease 00:41:33.66\00:41:35.36 to warn everyone night and day with tears." 00:41:35.39\00:41:38.49 So that's exactly what happened. 00:41:38.53\00:41:40.40 They brought in heresies that drew away disciples 00:41:40.43\00:41:43.77 and as John said a moment ago, paganism came in 00:41:43.80\00:41:46.80 and assumed the role of Christianity. 00:41:46.84\00:41:49.30 And in fact, I think even in 2 Thessalonians too, 00:41:49.34\00:41:51.91 Paul referred to this power was "already at work." 00:41:51.94\00:41:54.81 Already at work. 00:41:54.84\00:41:56.41 So he saw this power growing through Rome... 00:41:56.44\00:41:59.78 The mystery of iniquity. 00:41:59.81\00:42:01.15 ..where the little horn would rise from, was already at work. 00:42:01.18\00:42:04.22 That's right. Growing and coming to power. 00:42:04.25\00:42:06.02 Mm-hm. 00:42:06.05\00:42:07.42 So the Bible is very clear, 00:42:07.46\00:42:09.82 the protestant reformers understood this, John, 00:42:09.86\00:42:12.49 and so you'd think that we would know 00:42:12.53\00:42:15.13 but this counter-reformation did have an affect, it worked. 00:42:15.16\00:42:19.47 And to a great extent we have now Christendom 00:42:19.50\00:42:23.37 which has adopted at large this theory, 00:42:23.41\00:42:27.91 we are calling dispensationalism, 00:42:27.94\00:42:30.25 that was not only advocated by Francisco Ribera 00:42:30.28\00:42:33.62 but after that by Darby and by others. 00:42:33.65\00:42:38.35 When you read the Left Behind series, 00:42:38.39\00:42:40.09 when you read The Late, Great Planet Earth, 00:42:40.12\00:42:42.39 when you read all these books 00:42:42.42\00:42:43.99 you are reading material that comes from, 00:42:44.03\00:42:47.06 originates with Darby and then Scofeild and others. 00:42:47.10\00:42:51.47 And we don't realize, I think most don't realize 00:42:51.50\00:42:53.67 this is a theory that came out of the counter-reformation 00:42:53.70\00:42:57.37 to undo what the reformers did. 00:42:57.41\00:42:59.67 So here's my point and, then you jump in here, 00:42:59.71\00:43:05.01 God comes along and initiates 00:43:05.05\00:43:07.45 through Luther the protestant reformation 00:43:07.48\00:43:10.02 and does a wonderful thing, 00:43:10.05\00:43:11.39 bringing people back to the truth of God's word. 00:43:11.42\00:43:13.62 The devil counteracts that by bringing through his church, 00:43:13.66\00:43:17.03 through his system, a counter-reformation, 00:43:17.06\00:43:20.93 a false system of truth to overcome and to battle 00:43:20.96\00:43:26.74 against that system of truth that God set up. 00:43:26.77\00:43:29.70 So the question I have is, 00:43:29.74\00:43:33.31 when people say I am a protestant, 00:43:33.34\00:43:38.41 can you really be a protestant 00:43:38.45\00:43:40.58 and accept the counter-reformation, 00:43:40.62\00:43:43.55 doctrines and theories and teachings. 00:43:43.59\00:43:45.29 Wow. 00:43:45.32\00:43:46.65 That's a very, very good question. 00:43:46.69\00:43:48.02 Because you can't really say I'm a protestant 00:43:48.06\00:43:50.96 after, my church and I believe 00:43:50.99\00:43:53.33 after the spirit of the reformers 00:43:53.36\00:43:54.86 which God rose up to power, 00:43:54.90\00:43:56.97 I believe in what they stand for 00:43:57.00\00:43:59.53 and yet live and agree and breathe and teach 00:43:59.57\00:44:03.34 and share those doctrines 00:44:03.37\00:44:05.34 that come out of the counter-reformation 00:44:05.37\00:44:06.71 known today as dispensationalism. 00:44:06.74\00:44:08.54 Right. It's really an either or. 00:44:08.58\00:44:10.61 We've got two presentations, two lines of thought 00:44:10.65\00:44:14.18 and you have to pick one or the other. 00:44:14.22\00:44:16.18 Because, John, both sides can't talk to each other 00:44:16.22\00:44:19.15 in regard to explaining 00:44:19.19\00:44:20.79 and working on doctrines and scripture. 00:44:20.82\00:44:23.46 When this side talks to this side 00:44:23.49\00:44:24.96 and tries to share truth 00:44:24.99\00:44:26.33 and this side shares it with this side, 00:44:26.36\00:44:27.70 they can't hear each other 00:44:27.73\00:44:29.06 because it's two different systems. 00:44:29.10\00:44:30.43 They don't fit. 00:44:30.47\00:44:31.80 They can't incorporate. They can't merge. 00:44:31.83\00:44:33.90 And so I know that, you know, many times our pastors 00:44:33.94\00:44:37.17 in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church 00:44:37.21\00:44:38.54 they get discouraged, you know, 00:44:38.57\00:44:39.91 they're talking to those out there 00:44:39.94\00:44:41.28 that have these firm beliefs that their church teaches 00:44:41.31\00:44:43.85 and they're trying to share their own truth 00:44:43.88\00:44:45.31 but they can't hear them. 00:44:45.35\00:44:46.68 They can't see them. 00:44:46.72\00:44:48.15 And it's just so foreign to them. 00:44:48.18\00:44:52.35 This topic friends you might conclude 00:44:52.39\00:44:54.96 that if the amount of time that we've already passed, 00:44:54.99\00:44:57.63 we're not going to cover it in one program. 00:44:57.66\00:44:59.59 We're gonna do it in a practical way. 00:44:59.63\00:45:00.96 We can't cover every detail either so... 00:45:01.00\00:45:02.83 We're gonna try to do justice to this program 00:45:02.86\00:45:04.50 but one other things 00:45:04.53\00:45:05.87 that we wanna really point out is that, 00:45:05.90\00:45:09.30 the enemy is patient. 00:45:09.34\00:45:12.07 What is existing today under the cloak of Christianity 00:45:12.11\00:45:15.18 and the beautiful buildings and the cathedrals 00:45:15.21\00:45:16.78 and the large worship centres, um, is a well crafted, 00:45:16.81\00:45:21.58 well thought out plan of deception. 00:45:21.62\00:45:24.75 That was crafted in the minds 00:45:24.79\00:45:27.79 of the archenemy himself, Satan, 00:45:27.82\00:45:30.53 who always resisted the advance of the truth. 00:45:30.56\00:45:33.26 He chose the fourth beast of Daniel, the Church of Rome, 00:45:33.29\00:45:38.43 first of all, pagan Rome, then papal Rome, 00:45:38.47\00:45:41.20 then Roman Catholicism today. 00:45:41.24\00:45:43.61 He, through that power, the Bible made it clear, 00:45:43.64\00:45:46.88 they will think to change times and laws. 00:45:46.91\00:45:50.25 We're the saints of the most high, 00:45:50.28\00:45:51.81 persecute the saints of the most high. 00:45:51.85\00:45:54.08 So all the descriptions 00:45:54.12\00:45:55.45 in the Bible and Daniel, they fulfill. 00:45:55.48\00:45:58.09 And it was out of that power 00:45:58.12\00:45:59.45 that these seeds began to be planted 00:45:59.49\00:46:01.32 and then other people came on 00:46:01.36\00:46:03.29 and took the torch and carried it. 00:46:03.32\00:46:05.49 And what we have today now, 00:46:05.53\00:46:06.86 in the categorization of law, grace, the covenants, 00:46:06.90\00:46:09.16 the rapture, the Second Coming, 00:46:09.20\00:46:10.63 all these which we've covered in greater detail, 00:46:10.67\00:46:13.10 what we wanna do in this particular program 00:46:13.13\00:46:15.80 is point out that, we wanna point out, 00:46:15.84\00:46:19.11 how it is in contrast to what the Bible teaches. 00:46:19.14\00:46:23.31 And the contrasting part is so significant. 00:46:23.35\00:46:25.48 I mean, I have in front of me 00:46:25.51\00:46:27.98 how, Francisco Ribeiro past off the scene 00:46:28.02\00:46:33.82 another Jesuit by the name of Saint Robert Bellarmine, 00:46:33.86\00:46:38.66 he was in an Italian Jesuit. 00:46:38.69\00:46:41.06 He was one of the most important 00:46:41.10\00:46:42.53 counter reformation contributors. 00:46:42.56\00:46:44.20 But when he past off the scene, a doctor, S. R. Matlin, 00:46:44.23\00:46:47.40 the archbishop of Canterbury in 1593, 00:46:47.44\00:46:51.34 he was the one that kept these all ancient manuscripts 00:46:51.37\00:46:54.91 which that's how it got access to, 00:46:54.94\00:46:58.05 a man by the name of Manuel Lacunza. 00:46:58.08\00:47:00.75 He was the other Jesuit from Chile. 00:47:00.78\00:47:02.62 And this continued, witting his way 00:47:02.65\00:47:04.39 all the way through Christendom 00:47:04.42\00:47:06.09 until, we heard of Reverent Edward Irwing. 00:47:06.12\00:47:11.83 He was another reformer 00:47:11.86\00:47:13.43 that founded the Catholic apostolic church. 00:47:13.46\00:47:16.06 But, and then Margaret McDonald in 1815, she was one that, 00:47:16.10\00:47:21.20 she was known as the visionary. 00:47:21.24\00:47:22.60 She brought at the table. So we continue this as a track. 00:47:22.64\00:47:25.21 And we'll talk about how it got from her till to today 00:47:25.24\00:47:29.14 where one of the, one of the weakest positions 00:47:29.18\00:47:32.15 of dispensationalism was this. 00:47:32.18\00:47:37.02 Many of the proponents of dispensationalism 00:47:37.05\00:47:41.19 sought support of the Judaism, 00:47:41.22\00:47:45.16 they saw Judaist support. 00:47:45.19\00:47:48.33 And when day didn't have it, they felt that their theory 00:47:48.36\00:47:52.53 could not have gained as much ground as it did. 00:47:52.57\00:47:55.90 And so what they did was 00:47:55.94\00:47:57.27 they advance their teachings under names 00:47:57.31\00:47:59.87 that was associated with Jewish writers 00:47:59.91\00:48:03.71 but Jewish writers had nothing to do with it. 00:48:03.75\00:48:05.68 It's like me saying, my name is John Lomacang 00:48:05.71\00:48:09.45 but I'll just say 00:48:09.48\00:48:10.82 for the purpose of advancing a theory 00:48:10.85\00:48:12.45 that is not support by scripture, 00:48:12.49\00:48:13.99 I'll call myself a Reverent Ben Ezra. 00:48:14.02\00:48:18.23 Ben Ezra? 00:48:18.26\00:48:19.59 And then you read it and you'll say, 00:48:19.63\00:48:20.96 hey, we've got Jewish support 00:48:21.00\00:48:22.96 because we're reading Rabbi Ben Ezra's writings. 00:48:23.00\00:48:26.70 When in fact all of this was John Lomacang 00:48:26.74\00:48:28.77 that took Reverent Ben Ezra's name, 00:48:28.80\00:48:31.64 or Rabbi Ben Ezra's name and added to that document. 00:48:31.67\00:48:34.34 And that's what they classically did 00:48:34.38\00:48:35.74 for the advancement of this dispensational view 00:48:35.78\00:48:37.81 that we have today. 00:48:37.85\00:48:39.25 So this dive into it, John, 00:48:39.28\00:48:40.62 because we've laid some foundation 00:48:40.65\00:48:42.05 that to those who may be watching, 00:48:42.08\00:48:44.95 they maybe doing right now the dog whistle. 00:48:44.99\00:48:47.26 You know the dog whistle is? Yeah. 00:48:47.29\00:48:48.66 We don't hear but the dog go, 'huh.' 00:48:48.69\00:48:50.89 You know and I think as we launch into it, 00:48:50.93\00:48:53.09 what we saw here as the Lord do is the final push 00:48:53.13\00:48:56.87 of the protestant reformation 00:48:56.90\00:48:58.33 is when that 1800 period came around, 00:48:58.37\00:49:00.97 specifically the latter part of the 1830s, 00:49:01.00\00:49:03.24 in about 1840 you had this dispensational, 00:49:03.27\00:49:07.38 this growing dispensationalism kind of run into face-to-face, 00:49:07.41\00:49:11.81 almost fist-to-fist 00:49:11.85\00:49:13.62 with the reformers views once again 00:49:13.65\00:49:16.38 that were rising the power, that came, 00:49:16.42\00:49:17.89 and were proclaimed 00:49:17.92\00:49:19.25 by William Miller and the Millerites. 00:49:19.29\00:49:21.19 And then of course became Sabbatarian Adventist, 00:49:21.22\00:49:24.13 and then the Seventh-day Adventist church 00:49:24.16\00:49:25.49 grew out of that. 00:49:25.53\00:49:26.86 So you see the Seventh-day Adventist church 00:49:26.90\00:49:29.06 in a clear line that is in opposition 00:49:29.10\00:49:31.53 to the dispensational view 00:49:31.57\00:49:33.50 because, and here's why I say that 00:49:33.54\00:49:35.00 because when William Millar began to preach 00:49:35.04\00:49:37.64 that the Jesus was about to come and end all things. 00:49:37.67\00:49:40.78 Remember, the cleansing of the sanctuary 00:49:40.81\00:49:42.48 was the cleansing of the earth by fire. 00:49:42.51\00:49:44.38 That was so for into the ears 00:49:44.41\00:49:46.38 and to those within the church is a bad day, 00:49:46.41\00:49:48.82 because what they believe 00:49:48.85\00:49:50.19 was a thousand years of millennial peace. 00:49:50.22\00:49:53.56 That's right. 00:49:53.59\00:49:54.92 They had come to believe that when Jesus came, 00:49:54.96\00:49:57.79 he was coming up to setup his kingdom on earth 00:49:57.83\00:49:59.69 and to rule from Jerusalem. 00:49:59.73\00:50:02.73 And so you have these two views 00:50:02.76\00:50:06.80 that were running into each other 00:50:06.84\00:50:08.64 and they're still the same today. 00:50:08.67\00:50:10.87 Right. 00:50:10.91\00:50:12.24 The views of dispensationalism, 00:50:12.27\00:50:13.68 this growing dispensational movement 00:50:13.71\00:50:15.24 have continued to advance and then you have 00:50:15.28\00:50:17.05 the Seventh-day Adventist church, 00:50:17.08\00:50:18.41 which continues to hold the mantra of protestants, 00:50:18.45\00:50:20.85 and the Reformers continue to advance and grow as well. 00:50:20.88\00:50:24.32 And this two systems are clashing once again. 00:50:24.35\00:50:26.69 So as we go for these things, when we talk about the two, 00:50:26.72\00:50:30.06 the biblical view and the dispensational view, 00:50:30.09\00:50:32.59 you'll understand where they're coming from 00:50:32.63\00:50:34.13 and their aligns throughout history. 00:50:34.16\00:50:36.53 And the reason why one is more valid 00:50:36.56\00:50:38.83 than the other is not just 00:50:38.87\00:50:40.20 because they compare theory with theory. 00:50:40.24\00:50:41.90 That somebody say, "Well, how do I believe you? 00:50:41.94\00:50:44.71 How do I believe you?" 00:50:44.74\00:50:47.18 The Adventist church, Seventh-day Adventist church 00:50:47.21\00:50:48.88 has gone back to the original, 00:50:48.91\00:50:51.55 the original claims of the early reformers, 00:50:51.58\00:50:54.05 Sola scriptura, which is? 00:50:54.08\00:50:55.92 The bible and the Bible alone. 00:50:55.95\00:50:57.32 If the bible doesn't support it, don't accept it. 00:50:57.35\00:51:00.66 That's the clearest indication that it's just a theory. 00:51:00.69\00:51:04.73 Theories without the support of scripture 00:51:04.76\00:51:06.16 is that's all there. 00:51:06.19\00:51:07.53 And don't believe just because someone says, 00:51:07.56\00:51:08.90 "Well, I go to a Bible believing church." 00:51:08.93\00:51:10.77 You know, my non denominal church, 00:51:10.80\00:51:12.43 we believe in the Bible. 00:51:12.47\00:51:14.57 Make sure it's practiced, it's not just they say they do, 00:51:14.60\00:51:18.71 make sure it's practiced. 00:51:18.74\00:51:20.08 And sometimes, you know, on House Calls 00:51:20.11\00:51:21.44 we hear some people write in and say, 00:51:21.48\00:51:22.88 "You know, you focus so much on these specific teachings." 00:51:22.91\00:51:26.55 Well, these are the ones that are being attacked 00:51:26.58\00:51:28.18 by the dispensational view. 00:51:28.22\00:51:29.55 Right. 00:51:29.58\00:51:30.92 So we're defending the word of God. 00:51:30.95\00:51:33.42 And that is the working out, 00:51:33.46\00:51:34.86 the practice of us standing 00:51:34.89\00:51:36.93 in the bible and the bible alone. 00:51:36.96\00:51:38.29 Right. 00:51:38.33\00:51:39.66 So let's go through, start with some other things here, 00:51:39.69\00:51:41.13 and let's start with law and grace. 00:51:41.16\00:51:42.50 Okay. 00:51:42.53\00:51:43.87 Well, lets say, you know, what I like us to do 00:51:43.90\00:51:45.77 because we have it in front of us, 00:51:45.80\00:51:47.14 so it be nice for us to read the dispensational summary 00:51:47.17\00:51:51.11 and then share the Biblical summary. 00:51:51.14\00:51:53.01 Okay. 00:51:53.04\00:51:54.38 So why don't you do the dispensational summary 00:51:54.41\00:51:56.71 then read the biblical summary then we give this... 00:51:56.75\00:51:59.11 Oh, you get the biblical one, I get the this... 00:51:59.15\00:52:01.48 Well, the way that, the kind of you... 00:52:01.52\00:52:05.39 Okay. 00:52:05.42\00:52:06.76 Here we go, dispensational view of law, 00:52:06.79\00:52:08.26 we're gonna start with law. 00:52:08.29\00:52:10.09 There are two dispensations in the Bible, 00:52:10.13\00:52:12.33 the Old Testament period is an the era of law. 00:52:12.36\00:52:15.90 Israel was required to keep the law to be saved. 00:52:15.93\00:52:18.70 Right. 00:52:18.73\00:52:20.07 So in other words what they are saying 00:52:20.10\00:52:21.44 is in the Old Testament, there was no grace 00:52:21.47\00:52:23.41 it was all law, law, law, law, law. 00:52:23.44\00:52:25.31 And that was the, the condition for salvation. 00:52:25.34\00:52:29.38 Right. 00:52:29.41\00:52:30.75 For the Jews and for Israel way back 00:52:30.78\00:52:33.11 was law keeping. 00:52:33.15\00:52:34.48 But here is a scriptural view. 00:52:34.52\00:52:36.12 A God's law is still authoritative and binding, 00:52:36.15\00:52:39.22 Christians do not keep them to be safe 00:52:39.25\00:52:42.19 but because they are saved. 00:52:42.22\00:52:44.23 Obedience is an expression of love for God. 00:52:44.26\00:52:49.40 And so I almost wanna use, 00:52:49.43\00:52:52.13 well, John 14:15, clearly is the text 00:52:52.17\00:52:54.57 that has so much power behind it. 00:52:54.60\00:52:57.91 "If you love me keep my commandments." 00:52:57.94\00:53:00.58 You know, John, when we go 00:53:00.61\00:53:01.94 to this first dispensational view about Law, 00:53:01.98\00:53:05.51 this idea that in the Old Testament 00:53:05.55\00:53:08.12 the law was the most important focal point 00:53:08.15\00:53:10.42 and now we don't have to focus on that anymore. 00:53:10.45\00:53:13.25 Many of the dispensational theologians today 00:53:13.29\00:53:16.73 have done all hey could discredit the apostle Paul. 00:53:16.76\00:53:20.50 But James the apostle, creates a quandary 00:53:20.53\00:53:24.17 because James chimes in a minimal way 00:53:24.20\00:53:29.40 but it's like he, 00:53:29.44\00:53:31.04 his small book of Book of James 00:53:31.07\00:53:34.44 has buttressed all that Paul has written 00:53:34.48\00:53:37.28 in the many books that he has authored. 00:53:37.31\00:53:39.65 Because if you can get rid of Paul, and say, 00:53:39.68\00:53:42.28 well, Paul had issues, Paul had problems, 00:53:42.32\00:53:44.32 and this is sad that I've heard theologians say, 00:53:44.35\00:53:46.55 well, Paul didn't like women that's why he said 00:53:46.59\00:53:50.43 what he did about women in 1 Corinthians 11. 00:53:50.46\00:53:55.10 Paul had problem with this. 00:53:55.13\00:53:56.87 But when James chimes in, all the sudden, 00:53:56.90\00:53:59.90 and then John the apostle chimes 00:53:59.93\00:54:01.50 in again in the last book, the last chapter of the Bible, 00:54:01.54\00:54:05.67 they don't have any leg to stand on. 00:54:05.71\00:54:07.34 So now go to Revelation 22, 00:54:07.38\00:54:10.78 and matter of fact, Revelation a few places. 00:54:10.81\00:54:13.95 Revelation 22, you begin there 00:54:13.98\00:54:16.45 then Revelation 14:12, that's another one. 00:54:16.48\00:54:19.29 But I am gonna go to the Book of James, 00:54:19.32\00:54:22.12 because James is the one 00:54:22.16\00:54:23.76 that throws this wrench or the shavings 00:54:23.79\00:54:28.30 in the engine of the idea 00:54:28.33\00:54:29.66 that the law doesn't have to be kept. 00:54:29.70\00:54:31.77 All right. 00:54:31.80\00:54:33.13 Revelation 22:14, you know that one. 00:54:33.17\00:54:36.30 And this is by the way, 00:54:36.34\00:54:37.81 this is the last book of the Bible, 00:54:37.84\00:54:39.64 this is the book of prophecy, 00:54:39.67\00:54:41.01 revelation that's never been sealed. 00:54:41.04\00:54:42.38 Yeah. 00:54:42.41\00:54:43.75 So listen to what it says in reference to the idea 00:54:43.78\00:54:46.31 that the law doesn't have to be kept any longer. 00:54:46.35\00:54:48.65 " Blessed are those who do His commandments, 00:54:48.68\00:54:50.39 that they may have the right to the tree of life, 00:54:50.42\00:54:52.92 and may enter through the gates into the city." 00:54:52.95\00:54:54.89 Okay. 00:54:54.92\00:54:56.26 So the last book of the Bible, 00:54:56.29\00:54:57.63 the last chapter in the last book of the Bible, 00:54:57.66\00:55:01.46 verse 14. 00:55:01.50\00:55:02.83 So its says clearly, blessed are those 00:55:02.86\00:55:04.90 that keep his commandments. 00:55:04.93\00:55:06.84 Now what does that do with the idea 00:55:06.87\00:55:08.77 that command keeping was only for the Israelites 00:55:08.80\00:55:10.97 in the Old Testament. 00:55:11.01\00:55:12.34 That blows out of the water. 00:55:12.37\00:55:13.98 And the keeping of the commandments, 00:55:14.01\00:55:15.88 blessed are those who keep them, 00:55:15.91\00:55:17.51 I think hinges on this word too, 00:55:17.55\00:55:19.45 this verse, blessed. 00:55:19.48\00:55:20.85 Right. 00:55:20.88\00:55:22.22 The commandments were not given 00:55:22.25\00:55:24.55 to those who were not God's people. 00:55:24.59\00:55:27.36 Right. 00:55:27.39\00:55:28.72 The commandments were given to people 00:55:28.76\00:55:30.19 who already belong to God. 00:55:30.23\00:55:32.03 Right. 00:55:32.06\00:55:33.40 They weren't trying to be saved, 00:55:33.43\00:55:36.33 it's because they were saved 00:55:36.36\00:55:37.83 that God gave them his commandments. 00:55:37.87\00:55:40.57 I love Ellen White says, 00:55:40.60\00:55:42.77 she says, God has given his laws, 00:55:42.80\00:55:45.57 ten commandments as a hedge of protect, 00:55:45.61\00:55:48.01 a wall of protection around his people. 00:55:48.04\00:55:51.45 And I, if we think of that in those terms, 00:55:51.48\00:55:55.58 we abide in the safety of the commandments 00:55:55.62\00:55:58.19 because we are saved, 00:55:58.22\00:56:00.26 not because we're trying to be saved. 00:56:00.29\00:56:02.02 And this is the misnomer, 00:56:02.06\00:56:03.39 these are the threats, these are the allegations 00:56:03.43\00:56:05.23 thrown at commandment keepers that I think are so, 00:56:05.26\00:56:10.07 they are readily accepted today but just not true. 00:56:10.10\00:56:12.57 Yeah, they are not true at all. 00:56:12.60\00:56:13.94 James, this is the text that throws the wrench, 00:56:13.97\00:56:17.21 theologians don't know what to do with this, 00:56:17.24\00:56:18.71 they can't get rid of it. 00:56:18.74\00:56:20.08 James 2:10-12, 00:56:20.11\00:56:21.58 "For whoever shall keep the whole law, 00:56:21.61\00:56:24.58 and yet shall stumble in one point 00:56:24.61\00:56:26.01 he is guilty of all." 00:56:26.05\00:56:27.62 And look at the law he refers to, 00:56:27.65\00:56:29.05 "For he who said do not commit adultery, 00:56:29.08\00:56:30.92 the ten commandments, 00:56:30.95\00:56:32.29 also says do not murder, the ten commandments, 00:56:32.32\00:56:34.42 but if you do commit adultery but do not murder 00:56:34.46\00:56:36.83 you have become a transgressor of the Law." 00:56:36.86\00:56:39.16 And verse 12, "So speak and so do as those 00:56:39.19\00:56:43.20 who be judged by the law of liberty 00:56:43.23\00:56:45.57 not a law of bondage." 00:56:45.60\00:56:48.37 See? 00:56:48.40\00:56:49.74 Yeah, all of the writers in the New Testament 00:56:49.77\00:56:52.31 keep referring to the commandments 00:56:52.34\00:56:53.91 as the original said. 00:56:53.94\00:56:55.28 Right. 00:56:55.31\00:56:56.64 There is no Jesus' commandments separate 00:56:56.68\00:56:58.91 from the ten commandments on Mount Sinai. 00:56:58.95\00:57:01.02 These are the commandments, 00:57:01.05\00:57:02.38 they are consistent commandments 00:57:02.42\00:57:03.75 throughout the bible. 00:57:03.79\00:57:05.12 And it's just an amazing thought. 00:57:05.15\00:57:06.49 I wish we had time to go into depth in these things. 00:57:06.52\00:57:09.16 But I think just on a surface 00:57:09.19\00:57:10.83 that would answer in regard to the law. 00:57:10.86\00:57:13.60 And so we're saying here 00:57:13.63\00:57:15.20 that the commandments of the God, 00:57:15.23\00:57:16.67 as John made so clear, 00:57:16.70\00:57:18.03 are given to those who love the Lord. 00:57:18.07\00:57:19.43 "If you love me, keep my commandments." 00:57:19.47\00:57:21.74 Those who honour that by love for God will be in the kingdom. 00:57:21.77\00:57:25.51 There'll be no law break because in God's kingdom. 00:57:25.54\00:57:27.48 So today, give your heart to Christ 00:57:27.51\00:57:29.91 and you'll be ready 00:57:29.94\00:57:31.28 for that great and glorious day. 00:57:31.31\00:57:33.01 God Bless you. 00:57:33.05\00:57:34.38
