Let's start. 00:01:40.56\00:01:42.70 Father in heaven, we are so thankful 00:01:42.73\00:01:44.75 for this opportunity to come together 00:01:44.78\00:01:46.48 and to study your Word and we pray 00:01:46.51\00:01:48.20 that you would send your spirit to guide 00:01:48.23\00:01:50.32 and direct our thoughts, our hearts, 00:01:50.35\00:01:53.09 be with those who are listening and viewing this program 00:01:53.12\00:01:55.66 and that you would touch their lives as well. 00:01:55.69\00:01:58.15 And we ask most of all 00:01:58.18\00:01:59.21 that You'd just take possession of this program 00:01:59.24\00:02:01.29 and send it in a direction that you see fit 00:02:01.32\00:02:03.81 and you know as best in Jesus name Amen. 00:02:03.84\00:02:06.67 Amen. Thank you John. 00:02:06.70\00:02:08.38 Well, friends you all know that we have questions 00:02:08.41\00:02:10.57 that are included in our program. 00:02:10.60\00:02:12.36 We like to break it in half and half 00:02:12.39\00:02:14.08 and sometimes we go little shorter, 00:02:14.11\00:02:16.06 sometimes longer on the questions 00:02:16.09\00:02:17.33 depending on how intense they are. 00:02:17.36\00:02:19.57 So if you don't have email 00:02:19.60\00:02:21.24 and there's some people amazingly that don't. 00:02:21.27\00:02:23.30 Well, some people prefer to send hardcopies, 00:02:23.33\00:02:25.06 you can still do that. 00:02:25.09\00:02:26.51 Send those to P.O. Box 220, West Frankfort Illinois, 62896. 00:02:26.54\00:02:31.98 Obviously, 3ABN 00:02:32.01\00:02:33.83 and sub send that to House Calls. 00:02:33.86\00:02:36.16 And John or John will get that. 00:02:36.19\00:02:38.06 It's one of the other 00:02:38.09\00:02:39.22 or you can send those questions to housecalls@3abn.org 00:02:39.25\00:02:44.63 that's housecalls@3abn.org 00:02:44.66\00:02:48.23 that's were we download them. 00:02:48.26\00:02:49.92 John, begin with our first question 00:02:49.95\00:02:51.47 this morning, what do we have today. 00:02:51.50\00:02:52.78 John, we have a few questions on the same topic. 00:02:52.81\00:02:54.37 All right. 00:02:54.40\00:02:55.43 So I am going to a kind of mix and match 00:02:55.46\00:02:56.79 a few questions from that 00:02:56.82\00:02:58.57 or few comments from each of those. 00:02:58.60\00:03:00.08 Okay. 00:03:00.11\00:03:01.14 This first one after reading a book 00:03:01.17\00:03:04.96 they said that it appears that 00:03:04.99\00:03:08.37 this author was portraying the destruction of the wicked 00:03:08.40\00:03:12.20 where some were destroyed in a moment 00:03:12.23\00:03:14.88 while others suffered for many days. 00:03:14.91\00:03:19.02 And in another email coming from another individual 00:03:19.05\00:03:22.68 they said it appears on one hand 00:03:22.71\00:03:25.38 that like from the book of James it says 00:03:25.41\00:03:29.58 if you break one commandment you are guilty of all. 00:03:29.61\00:03:32.02 Okay. 00:03:32.05\00:03:33.08 Which seems to be well it's kind of like 00:03:33.11\00:03:34.90 one punishment for everything. 00:03:34.93\00:03:37.21 Or then it says in the book of Revelation 22:12 00:03:37.24\00:03:41.58 that everyone is judged according his work. 00:03:41.61\00:03:44.27 Right. 00:03:44.30\00:03:45.33 And or rewarded in that specific verse. 00:03:45.36\00:03:48.39 So what is it? 00:03:48.42\00:03:49.45 You know, is the Bible contradicting itself 00:03:49.48\00:03:51.12 or can we really know. 00:03:51.15\00:03:53.41 Well, I think there're some principles in the Word of God 00:03:53.44\00:03:55.55 that we need to address here first. 00:03:55.58\00:03:57.36 And you'll find in the Old Testament 00:03:57.39\00:03:59.41 on several occasions when addressing sin 00:03:59.44\00:04:03.88 God speaks very specifically 00:04:03.91\00:04:06.03 about handling certain sins differently from others. 00:04:06.06\00:04:09.40 Right. 00:04:09.43\00:04:10.46 There is clearly a degree of sin 00:04:10.49\00:04:13.53 and in the system of justice there with Israelites 00:04:13.56\00:04:16.95 that God put in place from the very beginning. 00:04:16.98\00:04:19.44 And we have carried over a lot of that system 00:04:19.47\00:04:21.29 even into our own justice system 00:04:21.32\00:04:23.06 within the United States here today. 00:04:23.09\00:04:25.03 Where you would have not the same punishment 00:04:25.06\00:04:27.56 for somebody that was shoplifting in a store, 00:04:27.59\00:04:32.34 to someone who'd murder somebody else. 00:04:32.37\00:04:34.39 There was definitely a different-- 00:04:34.42\00:04:35.68 There is a different sentence for those kinds of things. 00:04:35.71\00:04:39.12 In fact we call that the punishment fits the crime. 00:04:39.15\00:04:42.65 Crime, right. 00:04:42.68\00:04:43.71 And so you wouldn't have the same punishment 00:04:43.74\00:04:46.99 for both of those two crimes clearly 00:04:47.02\00:04:50.37 and that comes from the principles of God's Word. 00:04:50.40\00:04:52.88 So in principle we find 00:04:52.91\00:04:54.70 that judgment meets out different sentences. 00:04:54.73\00:04:56.82 True. 00:04:56.85\00:04:57.97 But when we get to the New Testament 00:04:58.00\00:05:01.24 and specifically we're going to go to Revelation 20. 00:05:01.27\00:05:04.53 All right Revelation 20. 00:05:04.56\00:05:06.39 And so let's go to Revelation 20, 00:05:06.42\00:05:09.56 you will find starting around verse 11, 00:05:09.59\00:05:14.77 you will find this great white throne judgment, 00:05:14.80\00:05:17.74 John and this is the throne of judgment 00:05:17.77\00:05:19.59 that the wicked appeared before. 00:05:19.62\00:05:21.06 This isn't the throne judgment that God's people, 00:05:21.09\00:05:23.90 his followers are part of. 00:05:23.93\00:05:26.56 And so it says here in verse 11 00:05:26.59\00:05:28.70 "And I saw a great white throne, 00:05:28.73\00:05:30.42 and one sitting upon it, 00:05:30.45\00:05:31.61 from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away 00:05:31.64\00:05:36.25 and there was no place found for them. 00:05:36.28\00:05:38.23 And I saw the dead, great and small, 00:05:38.26\00:05:40.65 standing in the presence of the throne 00:05:40.68\00:05:42.52 and the books were opened." 00:05:42.55\00:05:45.02 Books singular or plural there John. 00:05:45.05\00:05:47.92 Plural. More books than one. 00:05:47.95\00:05:50.69 "And another book was opened." 00:05:50.72\00:05:52.40 Is that singular or plural. Singular. 00:05:52.43\00:05:54.61 Singular that's one book was opened 00:05:54.64\00:05:56.80 and it says "Which is the book of life 00:05:56.83\00:05:58.96 and the dead were judged according to those things 00:05:58.99\00:06:01.49 which were written in the books." 00:06:01.52\00:06:03.15 Plural "according to" what? "Their works." 00:06:03.18\00:06:06.22 "According to their works." 00:06:06.25\00:06:07.48 So here we find a scene 00:06:07.51\00:06:08.80 in front of the great white throne of judgment 00:06:08.83\00:06:11.17 where the book of Life is opened 00:06:11.20\00:06:12.49 and then the reason that book is opened 00:06:12.52\00:06:13.91 is because the names of the wicked 00:06:13.94\00:06:15.94 are not in that book. 00:06:15.97\00:06:17.06 That's right. 00:06:17.09\00:06:18.12 So then Jesus moves 00:06:18.15\00:06:20.03 on His great white throne of judgment 00:06:20.06\00:06:21.61 from looking at that book to the books plural 00:06:21.64\00:06:25.56 and those were the books 00:06:25.59\00:06:26.86 that are the books of the Life's 00:06:26.89\00:06:28.39 recorded in the lives of those who are the wicked, 00:06:28.42\00:06:31.44 standing before His throne to be sentenced. 00:06:31.47\00:06:35.55 And it says you know I like one phrase John it says 00:06:35.58\00:06:38.70 and we this goes ways back it says 00:06:38.73\00:06:40.74 "I can read you like a book." 00:06:40.77\00:06:42.68 Book. 00:06:42.71\00:06:43.91 Well, in this respect God literally does open their book 00:06:43.94\00:06:47.41 the book recording their life and their life events 00:06:47.44\00:06:50.23 and their life activities and decisions 00:06:50.26\00:06:53.07 and he makes the judgment. 00:06:53.10\00:06:54.92 He sentences them 00:06:54.95\00:06:55.98 according to what is written in those books 00:06:56.01\00:06:58.11 which is why it says according to their works. 00:06:58.14\00:07:01.13 Right. 00:07:01.16\00:07:02.19 Now the reason why they're judged 00:07:02.22\00:07:04.83 according to their works 00:07:04.86\00:07:07.05 and not the works of Christ 00:07:07.08\00:07:08.68 is because they did not believe in Him. 00:07:08.71\00:07:11.76 So Christ's righteousness was not substituted 00:07:11.79\00:07:15.72 for their works as is with the righteous. 00:07:15.75\00:07:19.19 So they are left to stand in judgment 00:07:19.22\00:07:21.05 with their own deeds. 00:07:21.08\00:07:22.28 Right. 00:07:22.31\00:07:23.34 And this is where God meets out 00:07:23.37\00:07:25.56 or he issues a sentence 00:07:25.59\00:07:27.77 that allows them to experience 00:07:27.80\00:07:29.99 and will cause them to experience 00:07:30.02\00:07:31.77 judgments to different degrees. 00:07:31.80\00:07:33.96 And that judgment occurs within the lake of fire. 00:07:33.99\00:07:36.87 And it goes on a little bit it says the sea in verse 13 00:07:36.90\00:07:41.50 "And the sea gave up the dead that were in it and death 00:07:41.53\00:07:44.88 and hell gave up their dead that were in them 00:07:44.91\00:07:47.94 and they were judged everyone according to their works. 00:07:47.97\00:07:50.92 And hell and death were cast into." 00:07:50.95\00:07:53.41 Where? Lake of fire. 00:07:53.44\00:07:55.41 "The lake of fire." "This is the second death. 00:07:55.44\00:07:57.99 And whoever was not found written in the book of life 00:07:58.02\00:08:01.07 was cast into the lake of fire." 00:08:01.10\00:08:04.11 So we read this and we see that yes 00:08:04.14\00:08:07.19 everybody goes into the same lake of fire 00:08:07.22\00:08:11.16 but the experience in that lake of fire 00:08:11.19\00:08:14.74 the result that happens to them is different 00:08:14.77\00:08:17.45 or has differing degrees according to their works. 00:08:17.48\00:08:21.54 So you would not say that somebody 00:08:21.57\00:08:24.35 such as a Hitler or Idi Amin, 00:08:24.38\00:08:27.28 would burn the same amount as somebody 00:08:27.31\00:08:30.19 who was generally a kind person in this earth 00:08:30.22\00:08:33.00 but just did not believe in Christ 00:08:33.03\00:08:35.09 believe that was all of ours. 00:08:35.12\00:08:36.83 And in fact really lived themselves at a selfish means. 00:08:36.86\00:08:41.20 But they weren't murderers. Right. 00:08:41.23\00:08:42.72 And so there are different degrees of judgments here, 00:08:42.75\00:08:45.43 this is why the statement is used 00:08:45.46\00:08:47.00 they were judged according to their works. 00:08:47.03\00:08:50.19 That's right. Very clear. 00:08:50.22\00:08:51.52 You know, God is a just God 00:08:51.56\00:08:52.97 and we would never say that 00:08:53.00\00:08:55.62 the judge was just if he threw the book at a-- 00:08:55.65\00:08:59.55 If he threw the book at a kid who is a first time offender 00:08:59.58\00:09:03.61 and the person who is a repeated offender 00:09:03.64\00:09:05.98 got the same judgment. 00:09:06.01\00:09:08.37 Right. 00:09:08.40\00:09:09.43 Somebody would say that was just not just. 00:09:09.46\00:09:12.81 And if that could be declared about a human 00:09:12.84\00:09:15.41 what must be declared about God. 00:09:15.44\00:09:17.83 All of his judgments are just. 00:09:17.86\00:09:20.47 Right. He is not the unjust judge. 00:09:20.50\00:09:23.26 And in reality it only make sense, 00:09:23.29\00:09:25.90 matter of fact Ecclesiastes 12 let me go there. 00:09:25.93\00:09:30.62 Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 emphasizes the standard 00:09:30.65\00:09:35.90 by which each of us is to be judged 00:09:35.93\00:09:39.61 and this makes it sense because if we were just based. 00:09:39.64\00:09:43.15 If our lives were judged 00:09:43.18\00:09:45.98 based on the life of someone else, 00:09:46.01\00:09:49.37 then it stands to reason that person's life 00:09:49.40\00:09:51.97 will be judged based on the life of another person. 00:09:52.00\00:09:54.53 And so what happens is we become persons 00:09:54.56\00:09:57.02 whose deeds are measured 00:09:57.05\00:09:58.21 by the severity of somebody else's deeds. 00:09:58.24\00:10:02.33 So we'll say as sometimes we say in our own lives, 00:10:02.36\00:10:05.74 I was bad but not that bad. 00:10:05.77\00:10:07.88 You know, we say that 00:10:07.91\00:10:09.12 I use to party but not like that. 00:10:09.15\00:10:11.36 Well, I use to drink but not like that. 00:10:11.39\00:10:14.30 We measure our works against somebody else's works 00:10:14.33\00:10:16.94 and we feel somehow exonerated 00:10:16.97\00:10:18.86 that we we're not that bad. 00:10:18.89\00:10:21.12 But the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 00:10:21.15\00:10:25.77 the Bible says "Let us hear 00:10:25.80\00:10:27.70 the conclusion of the whole matter. 00:10:27.73\00:10:31.22 Fear God, and keep his commandments 00:10:31.25\00:10:33.13 for this is the whole duty of man. 00:10:33.16\00:10:36.57 For God will bring every work into judgment, 00:10:36.60\00:10:40.11 including every secret thing, 00:10:40.14\00:10:42.78 whether it is good, or whether it is evil." 00:10:42.81\00:10:46.00 So the standard by which judgment will be made 00:10:46.03\00:10:48.58 is the commandments of God. 00:10:48.61\00:10:50.86 Now that's why James says, "So speak and so do as those 00:10:50.89\00:10:53.84 that shall be judged by the law of liberty." 00:10:53.87\00:10:56.95 This law of liberty is the commandments of God. 00:10:56.98\00:10:59.46 The commandments of God shows us 00:10:59.49\00:11:01.28 the parameters of our freedom 00:11:01.31\00:11:02.98 while Jesus is the one that sets us free. 00:11:03.01\00:11:05.69 We're going to talk about that today 00:11:05.72\00:11:06.91 in our particular in our topic content. 00:11:06.94\00:11:10.32 So yes, God is a just God 00:11:10.35\00:11:12.72 and no the Bible doesn't misinterpret itself 00:11:12.75\00:11:16.30 all of our works will be measured 00:11:16.33\00:11:18.12 by one single standard. 00:11:18.15\00:11:20.01 And each person based on what their works had been. 00:11:20.04\00:11:22.51 And I like the fact that you brought this out, John, 00:11:22.54\00:11:24.25 because Revelation 20 00:11:24.28\00:11:26.21 when it talks about the great white throne judgment 00:11:26.24\00:11:28.11 it's not talking about well 00:11:28.14\00:11:29.28 let's see who is going to be saved 00:11:29.31\00:11:30.61 that is already been decided. 00:11:30.64\00:11:31.98 Done. It's already been done. 00:11:32.01\00:11:33.48 That's those whose names are not written 00:11:33.51\00:11:36.53 in the book of Life in Revelation 20 says 00:11:36.56\00:11:39.24 those whose names are not written in the book of Life 00:11:39.27\00:11:41.25 will be cast into the lake of fire 00:11:41.28\00:11:42.89 this is the second death. 00:11:42.92\00:11:44.05 Yeah, in that respect it's the same fire. 00:11:44.08\00:11:46.16 Right. 00:11:46.19\00:11:47.22 But there is different 00:11:47.25\00:11:48.28 and a different experience within that fire. 00:11:48.31\00:11:50.16 Right. 00:11:50.19\00:11:51.22 And that depends upon their works. 00:11:51.25\00:11:53.35 That's probably the easiest and quickest way to say it. 00:11:53.38\00:11:55.55 That's true. 00:11:55.58\00:11:56.61 And when you think about it though, 00:11:56.64\00:11:59.44 I thought about that sometimes and I thought, 00:11:59.47\00:12:01.28 well, if I am going to be destroyed 00:12:01.31\00:12:05.09 somebody wants to say well, what difference does he make 00:12:05.12\00:12:06.69 he burns for five years, he burns for three minutes, 00:12:06.72\00:12:08.79 he burns for two hours 00:12:08.82\00:12:10.26 I don't want to burn for any of that time particular 00:12:10.29\00:12:12.43 because we don't know 00:12:12.46\00:12:13.49 we don't have any kind of reference point 00:12:13.52\00:12:17.02 as to what that's going to be. 00:12:17.05\00:12:19.10 But if a person is going to be judged 00:12:19.13\00:12:20.57 and then sentenced according to his deeds, 00:12:20.60\00:12:24.05 I can imagine there are going to be severe 00:12:24.08\00:12:27.30 differing degrees but the end result 00:12:27.33\00:12:29.61 is going to be eternally being blotted out. 00:12:29.64\00:12:32.55 Wow, well, thank you anything more in that on that, John. 00:12:32.58\00:12:35.92 No, no. 00:12:35.95\00:12:36.98 Okay, here is another question from a person named Annie. 00:12:37.01\00:12:39.18 My question is didn't the vision 00:12:39.21\00:12:42.30 that Peter had indicate two concerns 00:12:42.33\00:12:45.23 not one about the Jews. 00:12:45.26\00:12:49.44 We're not concerned about the Gentiles. 00:12:49.47\00:12:53.14 And also unclean and also that the Lord 00:12:53.17\00:12:55.57 declares all food clean that's what, 00:12:55.60\00:12:58.22 that's what they're saying that this vision talks about. 00:12:58.25\00:13:02.62 And she goes on to say, Jesus even ate fish and meats 00:13:02.65\00:13:08.06 but now all foods are considered clean to eat. 00:13:08.09\00:13:10.75 Of course, if one is allergic 00:13:10.78\00:13:13.04 to a certain food they shouldn't eat it. 00:13:13.07\00:13:15.45 Please comment on this. 00:13:15.48\00:13:17.38 Thank you, Annie for that question 00:13:17.41\00:13:19.21 and we will definitely comment on it. 00:13:19.24\00:13:21.61 Well, let's go to a book of Acts. 00:13:21.64\00:13:24.13 Acts 10 lets look at the vision. 00:13:24.16\00:13:27.00 Let's look at the vision. 00:13:27.03\00:13:28.06 You know we could find 00:13:28.09\00:13:29.48 many applications to a particular story 00:13:29.51\00:13:32.12 but when you look at the story in its totality 00:13:32.15\00:13:35.86 you have to understand the message 00:13:35.89\00:13:38.02 that Jesus is trying to teach Peter. 00:13:38.05\00:13:41.03 And you pointed out that this brings out 00:13:41.06\00:13:44.63 not only the unjust judgment of the Jews upon the Gentiles, 00:13:44.66\00:13:49.47 but you also point out that isn't this the vision 00:13:49.50\00:13:52.08 of consideration that everything 00:13:52.11\00:13:53.37 is now able to be eaten. 00:13:53.40\00:13:56.27 Well, I would love to agree with you 00:13:56.30\00:13:58.10 but that's not the story 00:13:58.13\00:13:59.68 if you look at in its context and its fullness. 00:13:59.71\00:14:02.43 So we're going where, John. 00:14:02.46\00:14:03.56 We're going to Acts 10. Okay. 00:14:03.59\00:14:05.78 Acts 10, all right. 00:14:05.81\00:14:09.01 Not going to go through the whole things 00:14:09.04\00:14:10.27 just kind of verses that are very significant. 00:14:10.30\00:14:13.17 It says Acts 10:9. 00:14:13.20\00:14:17.05 "The next day, as they went on their journey 00:14:17.08\00:14:19.82 and drew near the city, 00:14:19.85\00:14:21.27 Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour." 00:14:21.30\00:14:26.24 That's about noon. 00:14:26.27\00:14:28.28 "And he became very hungry and wanted to eat 00:14:28.31\00:14:30.94 but while they made ready, he fell into a trance 00:14:30.97\00:14:35.25 and saw Heaven open 00:14:35.28\00:14:37.12 and an object like a great sheet 00:14:37.15\00:14:39.42 bound at the four corners, 00:14:39.45\00:14:41.21 descending to him and let down to the earth. 00:14:41.24\00:14:46.02 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals 00:14:46.05\00:14:48.94 of the earth, wild beasts, 00:14:48.97\00:14:51.51 creeping things and birds of the air. 00:14:51.54\00:14:54.37 And a voice came to him, "Rise, Peter, kill and eat." 00:14:54.40\00:14:59.52 But Peter said, "Not so, Lord, 00:14:59.55\00:15:01.56 for I have never eaten anything common or unclean." 00:15:01.59\00:15:05.95 And a voice said-- 00:15:05.98\00:15:08.69 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, 00:15:08.72\00:15:11.49 "What God has cleansed you must not call common." 00:15:11.52\00:15:15.82 And the object was taken up into heaven again. 00:15:15.85\00:15:19.48 Now while Peter wondered, verse 17 within himself 00:15:19.52\00:15:22.69 what this vision which he had seen meant, 00:15:22.72\00:15:25.47 behold, the men. 00:15:25.50\00:15:27.32 And here is the key 00:15:27.35\00:15:28.40 that's the transitional verse what does it mean. 00:15:28.43\00:15:31.46 Does this mean God is saying eat anything now. 00:15:31.49\00:15:34.69 The key verse is 17. 00:15:34.72\00:15:36.31 He is trying-- What does this mean. 00:15:36.34\00:15:38.24 And I will suggest he knows it doesn't mean 00:15:38.27\00:15:40.88 what people think is obvious here. 00:15:40.91\00:15:43.21 Right. It's not. 00:15:43.24\00:15:44.27 It's just not what it means because 00:15:44.30\00:15:46.02 and that's what he is struggling. 00:15:46.05\00:15:47.20 Here what does this mean? What does this mean? 00:15:47.23\00:15:49.35 Is God trying to say I could eat anything now, 00:15:49.38\00:15:52.87 the Bible interprets what it's going to say. 00:15:52.90\00:15:56.63 "Now Peter while wondering verse 17 00:15:56.66\00:15:59.32 within himself what this vision 00:15:59.35\00:16:01.27 which he had seen meant, behold, 00:16:01.30\00:16:03.47 the men who had been sent from Cornelius 00:16:03.50\00:16:06.46 had made inquiry for Simon's house 00:16:06.49\00:16:08.95 and stood before the gate. 00:16:08.98\00:16:10.37 And they called and asked whether Simon, 00:16:10.40\00:16:12.74 whose surname was Peter, was lodging there. 00:16:12.77\00:16:15.68 While Peter thought about the vision, 00:16:15.71\00:16:18.01 the Spirit said to him, 00:16:18.04\00:16:19.16 "Behold, three men are seeking you. 00:16:19.19\00:16:22.49 Arise therefore, go down and go with them, 00:16:22.52\00:16:26.11 doubting nothing for I have sent them." 00:16:26.14\00:16:29.30 Now let me just pause for a brief moment here 00:16:29.33\00:16:31.23 and make it really clear what's happening. 00:16:31.26\00:16:34.64 The reason why-- The reason why 00:16:34.67\00:16:36.38 the Holy Spirit says don't doubt I sent them 00:16:36.41\00:16:38.92 is because the Jews had no dealings with the Gentiles. 00:16:38.95\00:16:43.29 That's right. 00:16:43.32\00:16:44.35 Matter of fact, 00:16:44.38\00:16:45.41 if the Jewish man went to a Gentiles house 00:16:45.44\00:16:47.25 he went with the contingency of other Jews 00:16:47.28\00:16:49.66 to see whatever reason he had 00:16:49.69\00:16:51.56 whether his reason was legitimate. 00:16:51.59\00:16:53.86 They'll say what you're going to a Gentile's house for. 00:16:53.89\00:16:55.95 Well, I am going to give them Bible studies. 00:16:55.98\00:16:57.26 Well, I am going with you because I don't believe that. 00:16:57.29\00:17:00.19 And they went to legitimize whether or not the reason 00:17:00.22\00:17:02.80 he used to go to a Gentile's house was so. 00:17:02.83\00:17:05.34 And so the Holy Spirit is saying to Peter 00:17:05.37\00:17:08.23 "Don't worry about it. 00:17:08.26\00:17:10.43 I sent them. It's okay. 00:17:10.46\00:17:13.41 This is not something that you need to worry 00:17:13.44\00:17:17.25 whether or not there is any good in it. 00:17:17.28\00:17:18.65 I have sent them." And then verse 21. 00:17:18.68\00:17:22.97 "Then Peter went down, who had been sent-- 00:17:23.00\00:17:25.78 Then Peter went down to the men 00:17:25.81\00:17:27.12 who had been sent to him from Cornelius, 00:17:27.15\00:17:29.41 and said, "Yes, I am he whom you seek. 00:17:29.44\00:17:32.51 For what reason have you come?" 00:17:32.54\00:17:34.52 And they said, "Cornelius the centurion, a just man, 00:17:34.55\00:17:37.27 one who fears God and has a good reputation 00:17:37.30\00:17:39.98 among all the nations of the Jews." 00:17:40.01\00:17:42.80 He said that because it was not good 00:17:42.83\00:17:44.95 for Jews and Gentiles to mix. 00:17:44.98\00:17:47.06 He's got a good reputation don't worry about it. 00:17:47.09\00:17:50.06 "Was divinely instructed by the Holy Angel-- 00:17:50.09\00:17:53.30 By a Holy Angel to summon you to his house, 00:17:53.33\00:17:56.40 and to hear words from you. 00:17:56.43\00:17:59.86 Then he invited them in and lodged them. 00:17:59.89\00:18:03.97 On the next day Peter went away with them, and some." 00:18:04.00\00:18:07.57 This is the key. 00:18:07.60\00:18:08.63 "And some brethren from Joppa accompanied him." 00:18:08.66\00:18:12.31 We got go see and make sure this is right. 00:18:12.34\00:18:14.27 Because we don't know what's going on with Peter here. 00:18:14.30\00:18:16.12 I mean he's going to a Gentile's house. 00:18:16.15\00:18:17.54 He's on his way to Cornelius's house 00:18:17.57\00:18:19.76 and he is surely not an acceptable person. 00:18:19.79\00:18:22.36 Even though he has a good reputation, 00:18:22.39\00:18:23.64 we still have to go and see what's going on. 00:18:23.67\00:18:25.80 Now here is verse 24 00:18:25.83\00:18:28.08 "And the following day they entered Caesarea. 00:18:28.11\00:18:30.76 Now Cornelius was waiting for them, 00:18:30.79\00:18:32.63 and had called together 00:18:32.66\00:18:33.99 his relatives and close friends. 00:18:34.02\00:18:36.12 As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him 00:18:36.15\00:18:38.33 and fell down at his feet and worshiped him." 00:18:38.36\00:18:41.62 And this is important 00:18:41.65\00:18:42.69 because if Peter was the first Pope 00:18:42.72\00:18:44.25 that will be acceptable just the thought. 00:18:44.28\00:18:48.23 "But Peter lifted him up, saying, 00:18:48.26\00:18:50.47 "Stand up I myself am also a man." 00:18:50.50\00:18:56.47 And as he talked with him, verse 27 00:18:56.50\00:18:58.61 he went in and found many who had come together. 00:18:58.64\00:19:02.70 Then he said to them, 00:19:02.73\00:19:04.39 "You know, you know, it is unlawful. 00:19:04.42\00:19:08.49 You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man 00:19:08.52\00:19:11.98 to keep company with or go to one of another nation" 00:19:12.01\00:19:17.15 Ah, the reason for the vision. 00:19:17.18\00:19:19.96 "But God has shown me 00:19:19.99\00:19:22.64 that I should not call any man common or unclean." 00:19:22.67\00:19:28.19 So was it food that was common or unclean 00:19:31.37\00:19:36.17 in Peter's experience or men 00:19:36.20\00:19:39.04 that were considered common or unclean. 00:19:39.07\00:19:41.92 Which one was it? Men. 00:19:41.95\00:19:43.66 Ah, see now I am going to go further and say it was both. 00:19:43.69\00:19:48.68 Because Peter knew that there were things 00:19:48.71\00:19:50.67 he was not supposed to eat 00:19:50.70\00:19:52.66 but God used Peter's understanding 00:19:52.69\00:19:55.03 of unclean things to let them-- 00:19:55.06\00:19:58.00 To let him know, wait a minute, 00:19:58.03\00:19:59.65 you've got the same attitude Peter about men. 00:19:59.68\00:20:02.09 And I want you to know I have cleansed them. 00:20:02.12\00:20:04.78 You see the blood of Jesus Christ, 00:20:04.81\00:20:06.73 his Son, cleanses us all from sin. 00:20:06.76\00:20:10.00 So the Lord was saying, 00:20:10.03\00:20:11.06 "I am sending you to be an apostle to the Gentile. 00:20:11.09\00:20:13.73 You have got to know that the same way 00:20:13.76\00:20:16.15 you are cleansed they could be cleansed." 00:20:16.18\00:20:18.99 Don't call them common don't call them unclean 00:20:19.02\00:20:22.23 and that was the vision that was the purpose of it. 00:20:22.26\00:20:24.61 And so it was not to change their diet, 00:20:24.64\00:20:28.05 it was to give them a different attitude 00:20:28.08\00:20:29.85 about those who were not of the same persuasion 00:20:29.88\00:20:32.58 or of the same nation. 00:20:32.61\00:20:34.60 And one of the challenge, 00:20:34.63\00:20:35.84 I think one of the biggest struggles 00:20:35.87\00:20:37.97 that Christians have over this topic 00:20:38.00\00:20:39.77 is the use of the Word 00:20:39.80\00:20:42.88 or the term unclean and clean foods. 00:20:42.91\00:20:48.50 Because if you look in the Bible 00:20:48.53\00:20:49.62 there something very interesting 00:20:49.65\00:20:50.68 that some of you may not have thought about 00:20:50.71\00:20:52.49 but in the Bible you will find 00:20:52.52\00:20:54.89 no phrase unclean foods. 00:20:54.92\00:20:59.02 It's not there. Okay. 00:20:59.05\00:21:01.50 It is the animals that are either clean or unclean 00:21:01.53\00:21:06.41 and the line of food that is acceptable 00:21:06.44\00:21:08.86 that God has ordained only comes from the clean line. 00:21:08.89\00:21:13.11 Okay, so here you have clean and unclean animals. 00:21:13.14\00:21:17.29 Right. Food is acceptable. 00:21:17.32\00:21:20.51 The animal is acceptable to kill for food 00:21:20.54\00:21:22.96 from the line of clean. 00:21:22.99\00:21:25.62 Never was food considered from this line of unclean. 00:21:25.65\00:21:29.97 Right. 00:21:30.00\00:21:31.03 So to use the term unclean food is a misnomer. 00:21:31.06\00:21:37.59 It's very-- 00:21:37.62\00:21:38.65 There is no unclean food or even clean food 00:21:38.68\00:21:42.71 that becomes unclean food 00:21:42.74\00:21:44.26 because there is no unclean food. 00:21:44.29\00:21:46.64 There is unclean animals. Right. 00:21:46.67\00:21:48.51 And God said the unclean line is not for food 00:21:48.54\00:21:51.61 the clean line of animals 00:21:51.64\00:21:52.71 where you can eat that for food. 00:21:52.74\00:21:54.21 Very good a very good analogy. 00:21:54.24\00:21:55.58 And this is very important because, I hear this often 00:21:55.61\00:21:58.81 well, God has made unclean foods now clean. 00:21:58.85\00:22:02.84 But the problem is there is never 00:22:02.87\00:22:04.06 such thing as unclean food. 00:22:04.09\00:22:05.63 Right. 00:22:05.66\00:22:07.10 And if you say well he's made all animals 00:22:07.13\00:22:09.28 that are unclean for food, 00:22:09.31\00:22:10.93 now food that's going so much further 00:22:10.96\00:22:13.52 than any scripture even remotely alludes to. 00:22:13.55\00:22:15.90 Right. 00:22:15.93\00:22:16.96 Which is when you're reading this 00:22:16.99\00:22:18.07 and when Peter saw this vision, 00:22:18.10\00:22:20.73 he knew God cannot be telling him eat this for food 00:22:20.76\00:22:24.24 because he knew very well 00:22:24.27\00:22:26.06 that this line of unclean animals 00:22:26.09\00:22:27.59 that's never food. 00:22:27.62\00:22:28.75 Right. 00:22:28.78\00:22:29.88 Not under any circumstances. 00:22:29.91\00:22:31.42 Well, that's a very good point. 00:22:31.45\00:22:32.78 So I think it's important to get out of this 00:22:32.81\00:22:35.75 mindset of clean and unclean foods. 00:22:35.78\00:22:37.99 You have clean and unclean animals 00:22:38.02\00:22:39.68 food comes only from the clean line. 00:22:39.71\00:22:41.50 You know, John I appreciate 00:22:41.53\00:22:43.16 that analogy because in my mind 00:22:43.19\00:22:44.56 I just-- I've got this very imaginary mind. 00:22:44.59\00:22:47.51 I know sometimes it makes me laugh and I am thinking about 00:22:47.54\00:22:49.38 what the picture are going on my head. 00:22:49.41\00:22:51.53 It's like saying I am going to-- 00:22:51.56\00:22:54.10 I am going to the city dump. 00:22:54.13\00:22:56.18 You want to go there with me and you'll say what for. 00:22:56.21\00:22:58.28 I am going for dinner. 00:22:58.31\00:22:59.90 But why are you going to the city dump, 00:22:59.93\00:23:02.12 well, it's a new restaurant. 00:23:02.15\00:23:04.14 The city dump has never been a restaurant really honestly. 00:23:04.17\00:23:07.75 Exactly. 00:23:07.78\00:23:08.81 So it's like saying but no God has now 00:23:08.84\00:23:11.04 made the city dump a new restaurant. 00:23:11.07\00:23:13.92 The city dump has never been a restaurant. 00:23:13.95\00:23:15.61 Exactly, right. 00:23:15.64\00:23:16.67 Its never, it's never 00:23:16.70\00:23:17.76 so it cannot become a restaurant now. 00:23:17.79\00:23:19.66 You don't go to the city dump to eat. 00:23:19.69\00:23:21.48 You don't run behind a garbage truck with a knife and a fork. 00:23:21.51\00:23:23.90 Right. 00:23:23.93\00:23:25.14 That's a good, very-- That's a very good analogy. 00:23:25.17\00:23:27.17 So because it's original designation 00:23:27.20\00:23:29.53 a garbage truck has never been designated as a restaurant. 00:23:29.56\00:23:32.98 I cannot make a garbage truck a restaurant. 00:23:33.01\00:23:37.17 Garbage truck like catering replaced now, 00:23:37.20\00:23:39.70 the little I can see while it's going 00:23:39.73\00:23:41.46 through towns, come in come and eat. 00:23:41.49\00:23:43.50 Yeah, isn't it terrible? You know, isn't it terrible? 00:23:43.53\00:23:44.86 And what in fact, God-- 00:23:44.89\00:23:46.16 And reason I use garbage truck 00:23:46.19\00:23:47.75 as a particular point of description 00:23:47.78\00:23:50.41 is because God created certain animals 00:23:50.44\00:23:53.28 to keep the earth clean that's what their job was. 00:23:53.31\00:23:56.17 Right. 00:23:56.20\00:23:57.23 That-- Sorry, that's what their job is. 00:23:57.26\00:24:00.31 You can put a bow on a pig's neck 00:24:00.34\00:24:02.91 you could give them make them 00:24:02.94\00:24:04.59 nice pig jacket with a button under it. 00:24:04.62\00:24:07.38 You could do-- You can spray him with cologne 00:24:07.41\00:24:11.10 but the moment that they get up the chain 00:24:11.13\00:24:13.27 they're going to the nearest slop, mud, filth 00:24:13.30\00:24:17.83 and they're going to eat it. 00:24:17.86\00:24:18.89 Because that's how they-- That's were they created for. 00:24:18.92\00:24:22.57 Walking process and plan. 00:24:22.60\00:24:23.85 You know, cat fish, mud fish 00:24:23.88\00:24:27.08 you find them in the dirtiest places 00:24:27.11\00:24:29.25 because that's what they're created for. 00:24:29.28\00:24:31.59 You know why because it's not possible for man 00:24:31.62\00:24:34.27 to be in all these places that are out of human reach 00:24:34.30\00:24:37.98 to keep the oceans clean. 00:24:38.01\00:24:39.83 That's why clams and lobsters and all this shellfish 00:24:39.86\00:24:43.09 are caught at the bottom of the ocean. 00:24:43.12\00:24:45.17 They put those nets. 00:24:45.20\00:24:46.27 My uncle-- My uncles were fishermen 00:24:46.30\00:24:49.05 professional fishermen. 00:24:49.08\00:24:51.16 And when a hurricane came 00:24:51.19\00:24:52.22 through the Virgin Islands years ago. 00:24:52.25\00:24:53.81 He lost 600 of his traps 00:24:53.84\00:24:56.55 because he provided the shellfish 00:24:56.58\00:24:58.12 and the lobsters and crabs 00:24:58.15\00:24:59.79 and the oysters for the local fishery 00:24:59.82\00:25:01.74 for the local restaurants. 00:25:01.77\00:25:03.43 Well, he lost all of those and he declared bankruptcy. 00:25:03.46\00:25:06.75 So to speak and not clear bankruptcy 00:25:06.78\00:25:09.02 but he went out of his business. 00:25:09.05\00:25:10.41 Because he lost all of his-- 00:25:10.44\00:25:12.07 But I said where were they? 00:25:12.10\00:25:13.54 They were on the floor of the ocean. 00:25:13.57\00:25:16.26 Not 8,000 feet down but you know, 00:25:16.29\00:25:19.23 obviously the good reasonable depth reachable. 00:25:19.26\00:25:22.60 But that's why they're down there 00:25:22.63\00:25:24.17 because if you go and you're scuba gear 00:25:24.20\00:25:26.49 and some people like that. 00:25:26.52\00:25:27.73 Doug Batchelor loves to do that. 00:25:27.76\00:25:28.84 I want to do that one day. 00:25:28.87\00:25:30.20 You can see these animals faithfully going along 00:25:30.23\00:25:32.86 they're just cleaning up the ground 00:25:32.89\00:25:34.36 they're cleaning up the earth. 00:25:34.39\00:25:35.93 They're cleaning up the waters. 00:25:35.96\00:25:37.17 They're cleaning up the side road. 00:25:37.20\00:25:38.51 There's a raccoon that got hit 00:25:38.54\00:25:39.93 unfortunately on our side-- on our road 00:25:39.96\00:25:42.48 he's not going to be there for long. 00:25:42.51\00:25:44.78 And you could always tell birds are circling 00:25:44.81\00:25:47.87 and those birds that are circling 00:25:47.90\00:25:49.86 should never be on your table to eat. 00:25:49.89\00:25:52.29 Right. That's just the way it is. 00:25:52.32\00:25:54.17 Thank you for that question John. 00:25:54.20\00:25:56.21 I think do we have 00:25:56.24\00:25:58.06 and we have time for probably one. 00:25:58.09\00:25:59.34 Lets do one I think it's fairly short. 00:25:59.37\00:26:00.77 Okay, go ahead. 00:26:00.80\00:26:01.83 Now this comes from Carolyn 00:26:01.86\00:26:04.33 and she says "Dear John and John please tell me 00:26:04.36\00:26:06.61 what is the Bible stand on cosmetic surgery." 00:26:06.64\00:26:09.80 Okay. That's a good question. 00:26:09.83\00:26:12.16 Be it to fix a problem 00:26:12.19\00:26:14.16 which is a source of great embarrassment 00:26:14.19\00:26:15.65 or simply to enhance ones physical appearance. 00:26:15.68\00:26:17.82 Good question, very good question. 00:26:17.85\00:26:20.36 The simple answer is that the Bible 00:26:20.39\00:26:22.29 doesn't specifically talk about cosmetic surgery. 00:26:22.32\00:26:24.97 All right. 00:26:25.00\00:26:26.03 We know that because it was written long ago 00:26:26.06\00:26:27.95 before cosmetic surgery was taking place 00:26:27.98\00:26:30.16 and was on a regular thing. 00:26:30.19\00:26:33.90 But there are principles in the word of God 00:26:33.93\00:26:35.81 I think that we can kind of stand behind. 00:26:35.84\00:26:39.97 And we are not, we cannot judge someone's motive 00:26:40.00\00:26:44.70 to be able to match those principles 00:26:44.73\00:26:46.68 up with the motive of the individual. 00:26:46.71\00:26:48.79 Right. Does that make sense? 00:26:48.82\00:26:50.53 In other words I can't look at somebody 00:26:50.56\00:26:52.34 who has had cosmetic surgery and judge their motive. 00:26:52.37\00:26:57.31 The reasoning for doing this, 00:26:57.34\00:26:59.58 but here is what I mean on a principles way 00:26:59.61\00:27:03.49 the Bible doesn't seem to advocate 00:27:03.52\00:27:06.24 anywhere that I can find adornment. 00:27:06.27\00:27:09.44 Right. 00:27:09.47\00:27:10.50 Something to make us 00:27:10.53\00:27:11.99 just simply for the pure fact of looking better, adornment. 00:27:12.02\00:27:15.62 There are there is functional things 00:27:15.65\00:27:18.61 that people will wear. 00:27:18.64\00:27:20.41 Just like the priest wore 00:27:20.44\00:27:21.69 very beautiful jewels and vestiture 00:27:21.72\00:27:24.69 and all the other things that he wore. 00:27:24.72\00:27:26.14 They served a purpose. Right. 00:27:26.17\00:27:27.83 They had a meaning behind them. 00:27:27.86\00:27:29.78 But just purity adornment 00:27:29.81\00:27:31.97 even the New Testament ways on this 00:27:32.00\00:27:35.00 not our outward adornment 00:27:35.03\00:27:36.22 but the Lord looks on our heart. 00:27:36.25\00:27:37.59 Right. 00:27:37.62\00:27:38.65 And the principle here caring over 00:27:38.68\00:27:40.14 and to cosmetic surgery would be 00:27:40.17\00:27:42.99 well, what is the purpose of this person doing it. 00:27:43.02\00:27:45.04 Are they doing it for the purpose 00:27:45.07\00:27:47.90 of looking hot for the man. 00:27:47.93\00:27:51.59 Or they're doing for the purpose of benefit to self 00:27:51.62\00:27:55.26 or improvement of self in such a way 00:27:55.29\00:27:57.43 that maybe isn't so selfish or focused on attraction. 00:27:57.46\00:28:01.15 Right. But just a better ones life. 00:28:01.18\00:28:04.16 There are things beyond just repairing of a facial thing. 00:28:04.19\00:28:09.71 Like you know jar that was broken 00:28:09.74\00:28:11.84 and you have to go and then you have to do cosmetic surgery 00:28:11.87\00:28:14.03 to look better or scar something. 00:28:14.06\00:28:15.77 I think there are things beyond that are still acceptable. 00:28:15.80\00:28:17.71 Right. 00:28:17.74\00:28:18.77 This is between them and the Lord. 00:28:18.80\00:28:21.08 This is what I want to emphasize, 00:28:21.11\00:28:22.37 we should not be judging. 00:28:22.40\00:28:24.42 Even the question itself bothers me a little bit. 00:28:24.45\00:28:27.23 You understand what I am saying, John. 00:28:27.26\00:28:28.38 I am looking for the another brief-- 00:28:28.41\00:28:29.44 Even the question bothers me a little bit because it means 00:28:29.47\00:28:33.11 that behind the question there is somebody 00:28:33.14\00:28:35.10 that maybe wanting to assign or stereotype 00:28:35.13\00:28:38.51 or judge somebody for the reason 00:28:38.54\00:28:40.76 that they got cosmetic surgery. 00:28:40.79\00:28:41.95 Right. That is not for us to do. 00:28:41.98\00:28:44.59 That is between them and the Lord 00:28:44.62\00:28:46.27 and let them work that out. 00:28:46.30\00:28:47.82 That's right. 00:28:47.85\00:28:49.23 Yeah, let every man be a liar and let God be true. 00:28:49.26\00:28:51.66 I think it's a principle that maybe. 00:28:51.69\00:28:53.17 Yeah. Applied here. 00:28:53.20\00:28:54.39 And truly I liked the way you said, 00:28:54.42\00:28:56.58 things that are not clearly revealed in God's Word 00:28:56.61\00:29:00.82 we should not try incessantly 00:29:00.85\00:29:04.06 to make it a standard of salvation 00:29:04.09\00:29:06.14 and I think that one of the things, 00:29:06.17\00:29:07.99 I mean, I have heard 00:29:08.02\00:29:09.29 and let me just not open the can right now 00:29:09.32\00:29:11.22 because there's a lot of worms in it. 00:29:11.25\00:29:13.60 But and I speak of other areas 00:29:13.63\00:29:16.19 where sometimes Christians burdens 00:29:16.22\00:29:18.40 have increased to the point 00:29:18.43\00:29:19.79 where people feel as though 00:29:19.82\00:29:21.97 they are under this microscope of someone else's 00:29:22.00\00:29:25.69 when in fact what the Bible 00:29:25.72\00:29:26.78 encourages us to do is to examine ourselves 00:29:26.81\00:29:29.81 to see whether they are-- to see whether or not 00:29:29.84\00:29:32.03 we're in the faith to judge ourselves. 00:29:32.06\00:29:35.83 And so let's not make everything a doctrine. 00:29:35.86\00:29:38.61 And I like what you're saying about that, John, 00:29:38.64\00:29:40.82 sometimes people will frame these passages to almost say, 00:29:40.85\00:29:43.95 well, I haven't been able to find anything 00:29:43.98\00:29:46.90 maybe John and John could find something. 00:29:46.93\00:29:48.46 Maybe they can give me some scriptural references 00:29:48.49\00:29:50.84 so that I could say see there now, 00:29:50.87\00:29:52.71 you shouldn't have done that. 00:29:52.74\00:29:53.88 Right. 00:29:53.91\00:29:55.47 There's a problem with that approach. 00:29:55.50\00:29:56.90 If there is a verse in the Bible 00:29:56.93\00:29:58.18 you can find, well, let us know about 00:29:58.21\00:29:59.42 but we haven't found any verses that say 00:29:59.45\00:30:02.65 that it is sin that you have plastic surgery. 00:30:02.68\00:30:05.34 On the other hand we've seen some 00:30:05.37\00:30:06.61 serious disasters in plastic surgery. 00:30:06.64\00:30:08.85 And some people that have stopped 00:30:08.88\00:30:10.47 they wouldn't stop doing plastic surgeries 00:30:10.50\00:30:12.99 at a point where there is a one called cat lady 00:30:13.02\00:30:15.51 and remember that there is a lady 00:30:15.54\00:30:17.01 who had so many plastic surgeries 00:30:17.04\00:30:18.76 that they can't even fix or face any longer. 00:30:18.79\00:30:21.32 Because there is everything that could be stretched 00:30:21.35\00:30:22.95 has been stretched and all the collegians lips 00:30:22.98\00:30:26.55 and the alternations of the eyes 00:30:26.58\00:30:28.19 and let me just kind of stop there 00:30:28.22\00:30:30.11 but some people get disfigured 00:30:30.14\00:30:31.80 because they just get this addiction to it. 00:30:31.83\00:30:34.62 But and other people say, well, you know 00:30:34.65\00:30:36.58 I want to fix something that I am not happy with. 00:30:36.61\00:30:38.30 And it only hurts ourselves. Yeah. 00:30:38.33\00:30:40.40 If you go too far with that. Right. 00:30:40.43\00:30:42.65 The Bible clearly doesn't talk about this, 00:30:42.68\00:30:44.84 we shouldn't be judging whether someone else 00:30:44.87\00:30:46.78 is doing it right or wrong or doing it at all. 00:30:46.81\00:30:49.87 This is between them and the Lord. 00:30:49.90\00:30:51.96 And I think I'm in a category that kind of say that 00:30:51.99\00:30:53.84 if we look clearly I have got big ears 00:30:53.87\00:30:56.10 and somebody once said you should get plastic surgery 00:30:56.13\00:30:58.10 it kind of bring in some. 00:30:58.13\00:30:59.64 Well, this is my signature. 00:30:59.67\00:31:03.04 There's one, you haven't take that. 00:31:03.07\00:31:06.28 This is my signature. 00:31:06.31\00:31:07.92 I'm known, 00:31:07.95\00:31:09.09 if they even have a doubt that's John Lomacang, 00:31:09.12\00:31:10.77 just look for the ears. 00:31:10.80\00:31:12.85 It's a family trait we have a lot of us 00:31:12.88\00:31:14.71 in the family have big ears. 00:31:14.74\00:31:15.78 And I know somebody wants to draw the line 00:31:15.81\00:31:17.78 where what about it's just about cosmetic improvement 00:31:17.81\00:31:19.81 and improvement of your looks. 00:31:19.84\00:31:21.55 Bible doesn't speak about that. It doesn't speak against it. 00:31:21.58\00:31:23.51 I mean this is not an issue 00:31:23.54\00:31:25.28 that we should be even having to discuss or address. 00:31:25.31\00:31:28.03 Right. 00:31:28.06\00:31:29.09 It is between them and the Lord. 00:31:29.12\00:31:30.85 The Lord may look on it completely favorably, 00:31:30.88\00:31:32.99 praise God. 00:31:33.02\00:31:34.42 Let them work that out 00:31:34.45\00:31:35.74 but it is not up to us to talk about or to judge. 00:31:35.77\00:31:38.25 And always keep in mind 00:31:38.28\00:31:39.31 your body is the temple of the Lords. 00:31:39.34\00:31:41.78 Pray for God to give you guidance 00:31:41.81\00:31:43.79 if you ever enter that arena. 00:31:43.82\00:31:46.18 Well, that I think that takes-- 00:31:46.21\00:31:47.52 We're going to transition our topic today. 00:31:47.55\00:31:49.40 We're talking about salvation 00:31:49.43\00:31:50.50 but if you have any questions you like to sent to us 00:31:50.53\00:31:52.35 and that was completely in opinion response in our part 00:31:52.38\00:31:55.81 because there are no scriptures about that. 00:31:55.84\00:31:57.72 But if you do have any questions 00:31:57.75\00:31:58.78 you can send those questions to housecalls@3abn.org, 00:31:58.81\00:32:02.50 that's housecalls@3abn.org 00:32:02.53\00:32:05.23 and we promise to spend our time wisely 00:32:05.26\00:32:08.53 to respond to those questions 00:32:08.56\00:32:09.86 and most of our answers do come from God's Word. 00:32:09.89\00:32:12.81 We thank you for your participation. 00:32:12.84\00:32:16.68 Now John, what I'd like us to do 00:32:16.71\00:32:18.34 is just kind of dive into this topic salvation, 00:32:18.37\00:32:21.83 salvation what an amazing topic to talk about. 00:32:21.86\00:32:25.52 Without salvation we are all are lost. 00:32:25.55\00:32:28.14 And should I pitch it to you to go ahead and dive 00:32:28.17\00:32:30.56 into this topic together because we-- 00:32:30.59\00:32:31.79 Right, and we can start I mean we can do this together. 00:32:31.82\00:32:34.52 I'll make a couple of comments. Okay. 00:32:34.55\00:32:36.56 When we hear, we hear this phrase 00:32:36.59\00:32:38.76 over and over and over again. 00:32:38.79\00:32:39.82 You've heard it. 00:32:39.85\00:32:40.88 I've heard it everyone probably listening to this program 00:32:40.91\00:32:42.76 watching this program has heard it. 00:32:42.79\00:32:44.77 I got saved. 00:32:44.80\00:32:46.14 Yeah, people will give a dates ad places and-- 00:32:46.17\00:32:48.52 I got to say on such and such day 00:32:48.55\00:32:50.29 or I got to say back in such and such year 00:32:50.32\00:32:53.59 what does that mean when it comes to Jesus. 00:32:53.62\00:32:57.85 And what Jesus has done to save us. 00:32:57.88\00:33:01.15 And I am not trying to trivialize this, 00:33:01.18\00:33:03.07 I mean, we do guess saved by Jesus. 00:33:03.10\00:33:05.38 Right. 00:33:05.41\00:33:06.46 But we can say it sometimes 00:33:06.49\00:33:07.92 so the point where it's almost like a billboard 00:33:07.95\00:33:10.51 I got milk. 00:33:10.54\00:33:11.57 Yeah, I got a car. I bought a house. 00:33:11.60\00:33:13.33 Yeah, and so we don't want to trivialize 00:33:13.36\00:33:17.83 that which is one reason 00:33:17.86\00:33:18.96 why we decided to cover this topic. 00:33:18.99\00:33:21.96 To show the expense that God went through, that God-- 00:33:21.99\00:33:28.33 Invested. 00:33:28.36\00:33:29.39 Invested, yeah, that's a good point. 00:33:29.42\00:33:31.86 Invested to save mankind. 00:33:31.89\00:33:34.49 And how-- What that means to us. 00:33:34.52\00:33:37.08 But also would it meant to him. 00:33:37.11\00:33:39.50 And some of the things in regard to who Jesus was, 00:33:39.53\00:33:43.71 his nature, the Son of God, 00:33:43.74\00:33:46.50 son of man question what does that mean? 00:33:46.53\00:33:49.33 All these things sometimes are misunderstood. 00:33:49.36\00:33:53.97 That's right. Or not even defined at all. 00:33:54.00\00:33:57.08 Because I think there is also a tendency to just say, 00:33:57.11\00:34:01.22 well, I have been saved by grace 00:34:01.25\00:34:02.45 and grace kind of almost like no further explanations needed. 00:34:02.48\00:34:07.48 God's grace he did everything. 00:34:07.51\00:34:10.00 But what did he do. Right. 00:34:10.03\00:34:11.88 And how does that change, 00:34:11.91\00:34:13.91 how we might respond to what he did. 00:34:13.94\00:34:17.25 According to you know, 00:34:17.28\00:34:18.31 what it meant for him to do those things. 00:34:18.34\00:34:20.12 So it's hard to explain but well, 00:34:20.15\00:34:22.54 as we get into it, I know the Lord is going to lead 00:34:22.57\00:34:24.35 and we'll see some thing's 00:34:24.38\00:34:26.32 that maybe we haven't seen before. 00:34:26.35\00:34:28.18 And God's Word when it comes to Jesus 00:34:28.21\00:34:30.43 and what he did to accomplish our salvation. 00:34:30.46\00:34:33.54 I think a good passage to begin with is in Ephesians. 00:34:33.57\00:34:37.09 Ephesians it is the-- it is the signature passage 00:34:37.12\00:34:43.38 when we talk about salvation. 00:34:43.41\00:34:45.82 Ephesians 2:8-9, 00:34:45.85\00:34:50.16 Ephesians 2:8-9 we will definitely include 10, 00:34:50.19\00:34:55.17 but Ephesians verse 8 and 9 00:34:55.20\00:34:59.42 "For by grace you have been saved." 00:34:59.45\00:35:03.62 If you're reading the King James, 00:35:03.65\00:35:04.89 "For by grace are you saved through faith. 00:35:04.92\00:35:09.20 And that not of yourselves, 00:35:09.23\00:35:11.76 it is the gift of God, not of works, 00:35:11.79\00:35:16.22 lest anyone should boast." 00:35:16.25\00:35:18.83 So if we begin with the most 00:35:18.86\00:35:20.33 elementary definition of salvation, 00:35:20.36\00:35:23.51 it is by grace through faith. 00:35:23.54\00:35:26.97 In other words we haven't done anything, 00:35:27.00\00:35:28.92 but what I want to pause here and spend 00:35:28.95\00:35:30.60 a little time on this particular passage, 00:35:30.63\00:35:33.38 oh, we know number by the scriptures 00:35:33.41\00:35:35.06 we going to use in just a moment here. 00:35:35.09\00:35:37.59 Is this is often the passage that sighted 00:35:37.62\00:35:40.87 when people say they're saved. 00:35:40.90\00:35:42.77 And this is the best one 00:35:42.80\00:35:44.49 and this is the most traditional one in reality. 00:35:44.52\00:35:46.85 Not so much the best one 00:35:46.88\00:35:47.95 but the one that is commonly instead 00:35:47.98\00:35:49.66 just like the John 3:16, 00:35:49.69\00:35:51.43 of Revelation you know all these particular passages. 00:35:51.46\00:35:54.39 This is the one so people will say 00:35:54.42\00:35:55.45 I have been saved somebody said, 00:35:55.48\00:35:56.99 I was saved when I was five, I was saved when I was three, 00:35:57.02\00:35:58.92 I saved on the March 5, 1975 00:35:58.95\00:36:01.86 thinking about this particular dates. 00:36:01.89\00:36:03.56 And I often follow that with the question 00:36:03.59\00:36:05.95 save from what? 00:36:05.98\00:36:09.06 Okay, you want to chime in before we go any further. 00:36:09.09\00:36:10.91 No, no that's a good question 00:36:10.94\00:36:12.12 I am waiting to hear how you've respond to it. 00:36:12.15\00:36:13.69 I will say, saved from what? 00:36:13.72\00:36:16.44 And I was saved and some people say 00:36:16.47\00:36:18.90 I was saved different and I am going to use cliches 00:36:18.93\00:36:21.96 that exist in the larger Christendom. 00:36:21.99\00:36:24.12 I was saved sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. 00:36:24.15\00:36:27.86 Beautiful, praise God for that. 00:36:27.89\00:36:29.44 Saved, you know, 00:36:29.47\00:36:30.76 one thing I want to bring out sanctification 00:36:30.79\00:36:32.71 is not just something that happens 00:36:32.74\00:36:34.61 throughout our walk with Christ, 00:36:34.64\00:36:35.89 but sanctification also is an instant act. 00:36:35.92\00:36:38.34 Let me just make the difference here. 00:36:38.37\00:36:39.78 You know, when the Sabbath was sanctified 00:36:39.81\00:36:41.29 when the last day of week was sanctified 00:36:41.32\00:36:42.94 it was sanctified instantly. 00:36:42.97\00:36:45.45 There was no necessary-- there was no necessity 00:36:45.48\00:36:48.38 for to continually be to be sanctified. 00:36:48.41\00:36:50.73 God blessed it, sanctified it. 00:36:50.76\00:36:52.16 That means so in this context 00:36:52.19\00:36:53.62 the word sanctified means set apart. 00:36:53.65\00:36:56.54 See, so when you're saved the question 00:36:56.57\00:36:58.89 is what are you saved from? 00:36:58.92\00:37:00.35 Well, let me just go ahead to the second part. 00:37:00.38\00:37:02.01 We are set apart from what we used to be 00:37:02.04\00:37:05.65 we're now set apart for a Holy purpose 00:37:05.68\00:37:09.45 to the soberly, godly and righteously 00:37:09.48\00:37:12.39 but we have what have been saved from 00:37:12.42\00:37:15.21 and here is the answer to that. 00:37:15.24\00:37:16.56 And we'll point out something I have-- 00:37:16.59\00:37:18.82 God gave me years ago, I call that the three Ps, 00:37:18.85\00:37:23.25 the letter P. 00:37:23.28\00:37:24.31 The three Ps remember this. 00:37:24.34\00:37:25.86 So when we're instantly saved 00:37:25.89\00:37:27.51 when we are accept Jesus in our lives, 00:37:27.54\00:37:29.49 we are saved from penalty of sin. 00:37:29.52\00:37:34.51 So therefore, what that means 00:37:34.54\00:37:35.87 is up until that point you're on death row, 00:37:35.90\00:37:38.09 that means you're destined to die. 00:37:38.12\00:37:40.35 As an Adam 1 Corinthians 15:22 00:37:40.38\00:37:42.91 "As an Adam all die" we were on that death row, 00:37:42.94\00:37:46.74 we were going to die without Christ. 00:37:46.77\00:37:48.55 But we got-- we, we were saved, 00:37:48.58\00:37:50.31 we accepted Jesus Christ. 00:37:50.34\00:37:51.85 He delivered us from death. 00:37:51.88\00:37:55.07 So if you ask somebody says what are you saved from. 00:37:55.10\00:37:57.84 Say I am saved from the penalty of sin. 00:37:57.87\00:38:02.09 I'll go to the next in a just moment, 00:38:02.12\00:38:03.95 give you a chance to add to that. 00:38:03.98\00:38:05.04 You know, because-- and I like your point here. 00:38:05.07\00:38:06.18 We were born on death row 00:38:06.21\00:38:08.56 and for someone that's sees sin as just an act. 00:38:08.59\00:38:12.31 Right. 00:38:12.34\00:38:13.52 Isn't understanding the full impact of sin. 00:38:13.55\00:38:16.71 Sin is an infection, it is passed on to us at birth. 00:38:16.74\00:38:22.37 We are inclined our propensity our tendency is to sin. 00:38:22.40\00:38:26.38 Right. 00:38:26.41\00:38:27.52 And so we were born with it. 00:38:27.55\00:38:29.13 It doesn't take you long John to see a young baby 00:38:29.16\00:38:32.42 as it begins to get around and crawl 00:38:32.45\00:38:35.06 and be able to speak and talk to see 00:38:35.09\00:38:37.40 that sin resides in him and her. 00:38:37.43\00:38:40.40 Right? That's right. 00:38:40.43\00:38:41.57 Because sin is part of what we are born with. 00:38:41.60\00:38:44.24 Its' not necessarily just something that we do. 00:38:44.27\00:38:47.05 Now it is something that we do. 00:38:47.08\00:38:48.79 But the big picture of sin is that 00:38:48.82\00:38:52.26 we have a condition we are on death row. 00:38:52.29\00:38:54.83 We cannot save ourselves from death 00:38:54.86\00:38:57.20 which is where all of us end up. 00:38:57.23\00:38:58.89 We all end up dying of this we're along-- last long enough. 00:38:58.92\00:39:02.96 And so that's an important thing to distinguish 00:39:02.99\00:39:05.29 because there are sin and there are the sins 00:39:05.32\00:39:08.11 that we commit because of the fact 00:39:08.14\00:39:10.18 that we're infected with sin. 00:39:10.21\00:39:11.52 Right. Very important point. 00:39:11.55\00:39:13.77 I'm glad you pointed that because a lot of times 00:39:13.80\00:39:15.82 people say the Lord saved me from, 00:39:15.85\00:39:19.38 saved me from, saved me from 00:39:19.41\00:39:21.21 and they got on these itemized cigarettes, 00:39:21.24\00:39:23.33 alcohol, pornography, thievery, lying, stealing, killing 00:39:23.36\00:39:28.02 we go down this itemized list of things 00:39:28.05\00:39:29.82 that God saved us from. 00:39:29.85\00:39:31.57 Well, in essence saying is we no longer do those things 00:39:31.60\00:39:34.13 so salvation is not even what you no longer do. 00:39:34.16\00:39:37.35 But salvation is what Jesus has done. 00:39:37.38\00:39:40.15 But the saving process is deliverance 00:39:40.18\00:39:42.52 and if deliverance from the former life 00:39:42.55\00:39:44.30 is not something that you experience, 00:39:44.33\00:39:46.71 then you're really not delivered. 00:39:46.74\00:39:49.10 If you're continuing in the old ways, 00:39:49.13\00:39:51.79 then you cannot be in the new way. 00:39:51.82\00:39:54.54 I side 2 Corinthians 5:17 00:39:54.57\00:39:57.40 a passage another one of those wonderful passages. 00:39:57.43\00:40:00.78 In reference to the battle between the flesh the spirit. 00:40:00.81\00:40:06.07 2 Corinthians 5:17 00:40:06.10\00:40:08.54 the Bible reads "Therefore if any one be in Christ, 00:40:08.57\00:40:12.07 he is a new creature old things have passed away 00:40:12.10\00:40:18.06 behold, all things are become new." 00:40:18.09\00:40:21.75 Now John I want to give you a chance 00:40:21.78\00:40:22.97 to we've talked about this preprogram. 00:40:23.00\00:40:26.79 Whenever you've a chance to talk about this okay, 00:40:26.82\00:40:28.38 but if all things have passed 00:40:28.41\00:40:29.69 when all things are new well what about the fact that-- 00:40:29.72\00:40:34.39 Doesn't Jesus accept us as we are. 00:40:34.42\00:40:38.44 I mean do I need to be different after I am saved. 00:40:38.47\00:40:42.13 Yeah. 00:40:42.16\00:40:43.57 According to Bible all things have passed away, 00:40:43.60\00:40:45.85 all things all, all things have become new 00:40:45.88\00:40:48.90 so the old is gone the new is in. 00:40:48.93\00:40:52.25 But do I have to be different now that I am saved. 00:40:52.28\00:40:55.58 Doesn't Jesus accept me as I am? 00:40:55.61\00:40:57.72 Well, you brought up one big word 00:40:57.75\00:41:00.74 that we need to identify or explain what it is. 00:41:00.77\00:41:03.12 Okay. Sanctification. 00:41:03.15\00:41:05.79 One word we haven't identified here is justification. 00:41:05.82\00:41:08.70 Okay. 00:41:08.73\00:41:09.76 So these are two aspects to salvation, 00:41:09.79\00:41:12.76 but quite different in their meaning. 00:41:12.79\00:41:16.02 Justification is-- 00:41:16.05\00:41:18.50 It occurs the moment we believe in Jesus. 00:41:18.53\00:41:21.91 He has saved us as you said from the penalty of sin. 00:41:21.94\00:41:24.72 Right. 00:41:24.75\00:41:25.78 Sanctification begins at that same time, 00:41:25.81\00:41:29.54 because we are set apart for a holy purpose 00:41:29.57\00:41:32.63 but it also continues on. 00:41:32.66\00:41:34.32 So we began to be justified and we were sanctified, 00:41:34.35\00:41:37.67 sanctification then continues 00:41:37.70\00:41:39.71 its part of what we experience throughout life. 00:41:39.74\00:41:42.13 That's right. 00:41:42.16\00:41:43.25 Now sanctification-- do your second P, 00:41:43.28\00:41:45.56 because you haven't done that. 00:41:45.59\00:41:46.63 Yeah, sanctification the first in justification 00:41:46.66\00:41:50.47 is just as if I had never sinned. 00:41:50.50\00:41:54.23 That's a good way to think of it. 00:41:54.26\00:41:55.43 Just as if I had never sinned. 00:41:55.46\00:41:57.54 Justified, just is if I had never sinned. 00:41:57.57\00:42:00.70 The Lord expunges our record. 00:42:00.73\00:42:03.08 He takes from us 00:42:03.11\00:42:05.03 and I want to add to this component 00:42:05.06\00:42:06.36 because you mentioned sin and sins. 00:42:06.39\00:42:08.40 The sin nature which is what we have from Adam 00:42:08.43\00:42:13.41 no longer determines our destiny. 00:42:13.44\00:42:17.41 The sins we have committed 00:42:17.44\00:42:19.60 because all of the sin nature are expunged. 00:42:19.63\00:42:23.09 Whatever you were before, you've been forgiven 00:42:23.12\00:42:25.55 your sins have been forgiven 00:42:25.58\00:42:28.53 your record has been cleansed and the Bible says 00:42:28.56\00:42:31.53 if we confessed he is faithful and just to forgive us 00:42:31.56\00:42:33.71 cleanses from all unrighteousness. 00:42:33.74\00:42:35.09 That's justification all the way no longer 00:42:35.12\00:42:37.61 against you it's all been taking care 00:42:37.64\00:42:39.99 by the blood of Christ. 00:42:40.02\00:42:41.16 But now the second P is sanctification, 00:42:41.19\00:42:45.56 sanctification is the salvation from the power of sin. 00:42:45.59\00:42:51.46 The power of sin, so let's go and apply that. 00:42:51.49\00:42:56.01 A person says, I am saved 00:42:56.04\00:43:00.34 but I am still doing what I did before 00:43:00.37\00:43:03.11 and I am thinking wait a minute doesn't the passage say 00:43:03.14\00:43:06.20 old things have passed away behold all things are new. 00:43:06.23\00:43:09.62 Isaiah 1 "Seize to do evil learn to good." 00:43:09.65\00:43:13.77 Now do we instantly forget what we did in the past? 00:43:13.80\00:43:17.00 No, but now do we-- 00:43:17.03\00:43:19.79 And something that I think also needs to be mentioned here 00:43:19.82\00:43:22.30 justification is a revival that happens, 00:43:22.33\00:43:26.24 we change direction. 00:43:26.27\00:43:27.87 Now we begin to move in a different direction. 00:43:27.90\00:43:30.16 We unlearn the evil we begin to learn the good. 00:43:30.19\00:43:32.99 So and I must say this, John 00:43:33.02\00:43:35.31 we don't immediately become completely 00:43:35.34\00:43:41.04 disconnected from the way we thought 00:43:41.07\00:43:44.13 because no we're learning a whole new process 00:43:44.16\00:43:46.41 that's where the installation of pure purity comes in. 00:43:46.44\00:43:49.84 Our mind begins to take on be transformed 00:43:49.87\00:43:52.73 by the renewing of your mind that you may prove 00:43:52.76\00:43:56.61 what is the good acceptable perfect people of God. 00:43:56.64\00:43:58.65 That's where the transformation begins. 00:43:58.68\00:44:00.82 The transformation is not complete 00:44:00.85\00:44:03.39 until the last process of salvation. 00:44:03.42\00:44:06.28 We'll get to that in just a moment. 00:44:06.31\00:44:07.34 Let me go ahead and let you add something 00:44:07.37\00:44:08.72 to this before I, go on. 00:44:08.75\00:44:10.59 There is a term that is used to describe this change, 00:44:10.62\00:44:15.75 this transformation that occurs in the sanctification process. 00:44:15.78\00:44:18.93 Right. 00:44:18.96\00:44:20.43 Because it is also a process as well as a single event. 00:44:20.46\00:44:24.97 Paul speaks of it as two laws. 00:44:25.00\00:44:28.54 One is the law of sin in death. That's right. 00:44:28.57\00:44:30.85 The other is the law 00:44:30.88\00:44:31.91 of the spirit and righteousness. 00:44:31.94\00:44:35.04 Right. 00:44:35.07\00:44:36.10 And when we are sanctified we are sitting on a course 00:44:36.13\00:44:40.31 that moves us away from the law of sin in death 00:44:40.34\00:44:42.65 to the law of the spirit. 00:44:42.68\00:44:46.22 Right. Which brings life. 00:44:46.25\00:44:48.50 And so Paul speaks of this in Romans. 00:44:48.53\00:44:51.64 Very good. 00:44:51.67\00:44:52.70 Chapter 8:1 and, well, lets read a few verses here. 00:44:52.73\00:44:57.93 Starting with the verse 1 00:44:57.96\00:44:58.99 "There is therefore now no condemnation 00:44:59.02\00:45:00.83 to those who are in Christ Jesus." 00:45:00.86\00:45:02.56 When He uses the term in Christ Jesus 00:45:02.59\00:45:04.79 he is saying justified in Christ. 00:45:04.82\00:45:07.19 That's justification. 00:45:07.22\00:45:09.25 "Who do not walk according to the flesh, 00:45:09.28\00:45:12.20 but according to the Spirit?" 00:45:12.23\00:45:13.41 And now he talks about the walk 00:45:13.44\00:45:14.64 the walk is the walk of sanctification. 00:45:14.67\00:45:18.74 The process we talk about day by day being justified 00:45:18.77\00:45:21.76 but walking in Christ is how we are being 00:45:21.79\00:45:26.07 transformed into his image. 00:45:26.10\00:45:27.62 And it's also the evidence of our-- 00:45:27.65\00:45:29.32 It's also the evidence of our conversion 00:45:29.35\00:45:32.08 or of the trans-- our life being transformed. 00:45:32.11\00:45:34.74 You know somebody may say did you get married lately. 00:45:34.77\00:45:39.45 Yeah, that explains it. 00:45:39.48\00:45:42.12 That's what we don't we see you at the bar 00:45:42.15\00:45:43.32 anymore on Tuesday night. 00:45:43.35\00:45:44.38 There you go. That explains it. 00:45:44.41\00:45:46.02 Yeah, my wife cut that out right away. 00:45:46.05\00:45:48.13 You know, there are certain activities 00:45:48.16\00:45:49.26 that change instantly in our lives 00:45:49.29\00:45:51.13 when we become married. 00:45:51.16\00:45:52.96 In the very same way there are certain activities 00:45:52.99\00:45:54.97 in our lives that change and cut off 00:45:55.00\00:45:56.66 when we become Christians. 00:45:56.69\00:45:58.13 So we don't walk that way 00:45:58.16\00:45:59.56 do not walk according to the flesh. 00:45:59.59\00:46:01.60 Keep going. "But according to the spirit." 00:46:01.63\00:46:03.99 Verse 2 "For the law." Notice the law is here. 00:46:04.02\00:46:07.25 "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus 00:46:07.28\00:46:10.13 has made me free from the law of sin and death." 00:46:10.16\00:46:14.23 This is where sanctification is deliverance 00:46:14.26\00:46:17.94 from the power of sin. 00:46:17.97\00:46:20.14 We have moved from one law 00:46:20.17\00:46:22.12 which is sin and death to the other law 00:46:22.15\00:46:24.26 which is the spirit of the life in Christ Jesus. 00:46:24.29\00:46:26.80 Right. 00:46:26.83\00:46:27.89 Very important to remember this. 00:46:27.92\00:46:29.94 Verse 3 "For what the law could not do, 00:46:29.97\00:46:32.40 and that it was weak through the flesh, 00:46:32.43\00:46:34.43 God did by sending his own Son 00:46:34.46\00:46:35.87 in the likeness of sinful flesh, 00:46:35.90\00:46:37.38 on account of sin he condemn sin in the flesh. 00:46:37.41\00:46:39.96 The righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, 00:46:39.99\00:46:42.87 who do not walk according to the flesh, 00:46:42.90\00:46:44.64 but according to the Spirit." 00:46:44.67\00:46:45.93 Now here is what I want to say something 00:46:45.96\00:46:47.87 that it's probably misunderstood. 00:46:47.90\00:46:50.80 One of those areas it's misunderstood. 00:46:50.83\00:46:53.87 That as we begin to walk in the spirit of life 00:46:53.90\00:46:58.33 in Christ Jesus He gives us the power and strength 00:46:58.36\00:47:03.35 to live in harmony with his law. 00:47:03.38\00:47:06.58 That's right. 00:47:06.61\00:47:07.64 The Ten Commandments, where before we had the power 00:47:07.67\00:47:11.53 from on high to partake off to live according to that law. 00:47:11.56\00:47:17.32 We were ruled by the law of sin and death. 00:47:17.35\00:47:19.51 That's right. 00:47:19.54\00:47:20.57 We had no power in fact Paul goes on to say 00:47:20.60\00:47:22.98 that a carnal man cannot do the things of God. 00:47:23.01\00:47:26.82 He cannot keep the law, 00:47:26.85\00:47:28.94 but once you're given the life of Christ 00:47:28.97\00:47:31.10 and you're walking in the spirit in his power 00:47:31.13\00:47:33.97 you're living in a harmony with that law 00:47:34.00\00:47:35.94 because he gives you the strength to do it. 00:47:35.97\00:47:38.72 So this thought that when you're saved 00:47:38.75\00:47:41.53 you no longer then keep the law 00:47:41.56\00:47:43.40 is missing the entire reason that God saves you. 00:47:43.43\00:47:46.88 Wow. Very good point. 00:47:46.91\00:47:49.12 He is saving you to save you from eternal death, yes. 00:47:49.15\00:47:52.34 And to give you eternal life, yes. 00:47:52.37\00:47:54.77 But he is also saving you to make you new in Christ 00:47:54.80\00:47:57.80 which is an individual, 00:47:57.83\00:47:59.12 who walks in a spirit living in harmony 00:47:59.15\00:48:01.13 with the Ten Commandments. 00:48:01.16\00:48:02.29 Right. 00:48:02.32\00:48:03.36 I don't lie, steal, murder, I don't commit adultery. 00:48:03.39\00:48:08.44 I don't covet. Exactly. 00:48:08.47\00:48:10.23 I don't bow down to images, I know God is my God. 00:48:10.26\00:48:14.26 Right. 00:48:14.29\00:48:15.32 I don't take his name in vain 00:48:15.35\00:48:17.31 and I obey my parents and respect them. 00:48:17.34\00:48:20.69 Oh, wait... 00:48:20.72\00:48:21.79 I keep the Fourth Commandment as well. 00:48:21.82\00:48:24.22 Right, right the law of God. 00:48:24.25\00:48:25.74 The Seventh-day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God. 00:48:25.77\00:48:29.90 All these things God gives me power to now do 00:48:29.93\00:48:32.66 because I have been saved 00:48:32.69\00:48:34.49 which is why those things are the evidence 00:48:34.52\00:48:36.21 that our transformation is taking place. 00:48:36.24\00:48:37.84 I have been saved. Right. 00:48:37.87\00:48:39.70 To say I am saved and then I don't have to-- 00:48:39.73\00:48:43.90 I don't need the power, I don't want the power, 00:48:43.93\00:48:45.98 I don't accept the power to live in harmony 00:48:46.01\00:48:47.72 with God's law its only accepting 00:48:47.75\00:48:48.99 one part of the equation justification 00:48:49.02\00:48:51.29 and I would say 00:48:51.32\00:48:53.04 you're missing on the entire salvation experience. 00:48:53.07\00:48:55.62 You know what's so beautiful about salvation, 00:48:55.65\00:48:57.21 John, you know, very well put. 00:48:57.24\00:48:59.36 Wonderfully put because salvation 00:48:59.39\00:49:01.29 just to build on what you said salvation is an evidence. 00:49:01.32\00:49:05.18 It's an evidence of not just your life being changed 00:49:05.21\00:49:09.05 but the power of Christ. 00:49:09.08\00:49:11.67 The power of Christ, matter of fact Romans 1, 00:49:11.70\00:49:14.43 I want to just go ahead and look at Romans 1. 00:49:14.46\00:49:17.06 Paul begins the book of Romans 00:49:17.09\00:49:19.32 with this beautiful, beautiful analogy. 00:49:19.35\00:49:23.41 This beautiful definition 00:49:23.44\00:49:24.85 of how wonderful the grace of God is. 00:49:24.88\00:49:28.78 Here it is. Page verse 16. 00:49:28.81\00:49:31.23 Yeah, you have to highlight it. 00:49:31.26\00:49:33.53 Notice what it says. 00:49:33.56\00:49:36.28 Romans 1:16 00:49:36.31\00:49:38.26 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, 00:49:38.29\00:49:43.08 for it is the power of God to salvation." 00:49:43.11\00:49:47.99 Yes, salvation includes power not just deliverance but power. 00:49:48.02\00:49:53.05 We don't often include the power. 00:49:53.08\00:49:54.58 So people today they say they're saved 00:49:54.61\00:49:56.52 but there is no-- they live the same way, 00:49:56.55\00:50:01.14 There are pastors that still drink and smoke. 00:50:01.17\00:50:03.50 there are churches that advocate 00:50:03.53\00:50:04.90 doesn't matter what you do. 00:50:04.93\00:50:06.52 Now I am not talking about the advocating killing 00:50:06.55\00:50:08.67 and lying and stealing and cheating 00:50:08.70\00:50:10.02 but there's no change. 00:50:10.05\00:50:11.85 I know 00:50:11.88\00:50:12.91 I am not gonna talk about the particular denomination. 00:50:12.94\00:50:15.75 Let me just go ahead and focus on the text here. 00:50:15.78\00:50:17.92 The power of God is what is often 00:50:17.95\00:50:20.24 missing in the Christian walk. 00:50:20.27\00:50:22.99 And so you have people that don't get deliverance 00:50:23.02\00:50:25.52 and let me just narrow it down. 00:50:25.55\00:50:27.00 Some people said well, God does not know power. 00:50:27.03\00:50:30.03 And some people well, excuse the way they speak 00:50:30.06\00:50:32.33 with the way they treat others. 00:50:32.36\00:50:34.54 And the power of God doesn't show up there. 00:50:34.57\00:50:36.52 But here's what it goes on to say 00:50:36.55\00:50:38.30 "It is the power of God to salvation for every one 00:50:38.33\00:50:42.03 who believes for the Jew first, and also for the Greeks. 00:50:42.06\00:50:46.61 For in it" in what in the power. 00:50:46.64\00:50:49.89 "The righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith." 00:50:49.92\00:50:55.08 What are we saved by grace through faith? 00:50:55.11\00:50:58.33 There is some power revealed there. 00:50:58.36\00:51:01.57 How did you ever overcome that? 00:51:01.60\00:51:04.11 That's the power of the gospel. 00:51:04.14\00:51:05.95 So when people say that the gospel is just 00:51:05.98\00:51:08.12 you know, a measure by which we become members. 00:51:08.15\00:51:11.07 No, the gospel is the measure 00:51:11.10\00:51:13.84 by which we become sons and daughters of God. 00:51:13.87\00:51:17.27 There's a power there that must be exemplified, 00:51:17.30\00:51:19.98 that must be emphasized, 00:51:20.01\00:51:21.51 matter of fact let me go ahead and show you 00:51:21.54\00:51:23.48 there's a particular passage here in 1 John 3:14 00:51:23.51\00:51:28.56 I want to just throw this one into the mix here 00:51:28.59\00:51:30.33 because we have to think of the power. 00:51:30.36\00:51:33.54 What does the power of the gospel show us. 00:51:33.57\00:51:35.57 You know if we didn't love somebody 00:51:35.60\00:51:36.88 before you became Christian, 00:51:36.91\00:51:39.12 you must love them after you become Christian 00:51:39.15\00:51:43.27 just you show you this 1 John 3:14 "We know." 00:51:43.30\00:51:46.87 Remember we talked about death row. 00:51:46.90\00:51:48.52 Well, how does somebody 00:51:48.55\00:51:49.58 or how does someone know I am no longer on death row. 00:51:49.61\00:51:52.20 It says in the Bible 1 John 3:14 00:51:52.23\00:51:54.36 "We know that we have passed from death to life, 00:51:54.39\00:52:00.64 because we love the brethren." 00:52:00.67\00:52:03.03 That's right. 00:52:03.06\00:52:04.09 He who does not love his brother abides in death." 00:52:04.12\00:52:07.61 So here I am, I am a Christian that hates 00:52:07.64\00:52:10.53 is this such an oxymoron. 00:52:10.56\00:52:12.18 I don't like this person, 00:52:12.21\00:52:13.24 I don't like that person or I hate this person, 00:52:13.27\00:52:14.81 I can't stand that person, 00:52:14.84\00:52:16.09 I cut this person down don't like the pastor 00:52:16.12\00:52:18.57 I can't stand to head elder 00:52:18.60\00:52:19.94 I don't like the teachers I the Sabbath school. 00:52:19.97\00:52:22.14 We go all this hate speech and we say to I am Christian. 00:52:22.17\00:52:26.31 Well, you know why it's because we've boiled down salvation 00:52:26.34\00:52:28.94 to just simply eternal life. 00:52:28.97\00:52:31.42 And I am on the eternal life track. 00:52:31.45\00:52:33.55 Right. 00:52:33.58\00:52:34.61 And that's not what salvation is entirely about. 00:52:34.64\00:52:38.29 It's the beginning of salvation. 00:52:38.32\00:52:41.21 But it's not the salvation experience 00:52:41.24\00:52:42.96 and I use the word experience over and over 00:52:42.99\00:52:44.67 Because it says they just shall live by faith. 00:52:44.70\00:52:48.09 I mean it's the life that I have today 00:52:48.12\00:52:50.49 I am saved everyday throughout the day all day long. 00:52:50.52\00:52:54.37 Right. 00:52:54.40\00:52:55.62 In other words I am experiencing deliverance 00:52:55.65\00:52:58.47 and salvation in Christ from all the things 00:52:58.50\00:53:00.76 that Satan tempts me with. 00:53:00.79\00:53:02.86 And if I am doing every-- 00:53:02.89\00:53:04.09 If I'm succumbing to every temptation 00:53:04.12\00:53:06.45 and doing what he wants me to do 00:53:06.48\00:53:08.10 I can honestly say, I am not saved. 00:53:08.13\00:53:10.16 I am not living that salvation experience. 00:53:10.19\00:53:12.93 Which is where this once saved always saved 00:53:12.96\00:53:15.04 it's so deadly and we won't talk 00:53:15.07\00:53:16.28 if we won't get there right now. 00:53:16.31\00:53:18.10 Yeah, we'll get there at some point. 00:53:18.13\00:53:20.24 But I just-- it's so important 00:53:20.27\00:53:21.92 to remember salvation is more than just the instant. 00:53:21.95\00:53:25.00 It's the experience that we have that last a life time. 00:53:25.03\00:53:29.61 And if we see it if we don't see it that way 00:53:29.64\00:53:32.64 and we're just boiling it down to one time event, 00:53:32.67\00:53:34.99 then the God saved takes on a totally different meaning. 00:53:35.02\00:53:38.72 Oh, I tell you, I tell you, I tell you. 00:53:38.75\00:53:41.52 A God saved that means I am on my way to heaven, 00:53:41.55\00:53:43.52 you can't turn away from me 00:53:43.55\00:53:44.58 because they said once I am saved, 00:53:44.61\00:53:45.83 I am always saved so I am good. 00:53:45.86\00:53:47.63 Right. 00:53:47.66\00:53:48.70 And so it takes away all accountability as a Christian. 00:53:48.73\00:53:53.15 If we didn't really need to be changed 00:53:53.18\00:53:55.12 then the work of Christ is of not. 00:53:55.15\00:53:57.92 If there was no power to change the way 00:53:57.95\00:53:59.80 we were prior to the cross 2 Corinthians 5:17 00:53:59.83\00:54:04.18 kind of an ethereal text. 00:54:04.21\00:54:06.49 If anyone is in Christ he is in new creation 00:54:06.52\00:54:08.49 all things have passed away 00:54:08.52\00:54:09.64 behold all things have become new. 00:54:09.67\00:54:11.26 Let me just I want to give you 00:54:11.29\00:54:12.36 two very very quick passages here. 00:54:12.39\00:54:14.28 2 Corinthians 2:15 00:54:14.31\00:54:18.23 actually 1 Corinthians 1:18, 00:54:18.26\00:54:20.78 1 Corinthians 1:18 the Bible says 00:54:20.81\00:54:23.19 "For the message of the cross 00:54:23.22\00:54:25.60 is foolishness to those who are perishing 00:54:25.63\00:54:29.29 but who us who are being the process being saved 00:54:29.32\00:54:35.76 it is the power of God." 00:54:35.79\00:54:37.83 You see the power-- What does it mean by power? 00:54:37.86\00:54:40.05 The power to change who you are you see 00:54:40.08\00:54:42.03 that this thing that we're Christians 00:54:42.06\00:54:43.38 but we could live the way we did before. 00:54:43.41\00:54:45.18 Our music our, entertainment, 00:54:45.21\00:54:46.29 our attitudes, our habits, our practices, 00:54:46.32\00:54:48.35 our-- the things we watch, the places we go, 00:54:48.38\00:54:50.41 the music we listen to, the habits we were bound by, 00:54:50.44\00:54:53.96 to say that we can keep that kind of thing up and say 00:54:53.99\00:54:56.54 I am a Christian, is a lie to the Gospel 00:54:56.57\00:54:59.78 because the power is like getting a brand new television 00:54:59.81\00:55:03.56 and keeping it unplugged 00:55:03.59\00:55:04.83 and you sit in the living the room 00:55:04.86\00:55:05.89 and people would say, what are you doing? 00:55:05.92\00:55:06.99 I am watching TV. 00:55:07.02\00:55:08.05 But there's nothing on the screen. 00:55:08.08\00:55:09.68 Well, I am still watching TV. 00:55:09.71\00:55:11.23 But there's nothing on the screen 00:55:11.26\00:55:12.34 what are you watching? 00:55:12.37\00:55:13.40 Plug it in. 00:55:13.43\00:55:14.46 If we plug into the power we'll see the transformation 00:55:14.49\00:55:18.10 that's happening in our lives. 00:55:18.13\00:55:19.16 One more text. 00:55:19.19\00:55:20.47 Hebrews 7:25 look at the work of
